Always an enjoyable experience.
Great atmosphere and staff are helpful and welcoming.
When we have had pizza, it's fantastic.
My favorite beers are the left of field brews; Kristall Weissen and Point Annilation which is aptly named.
The reason for 4 stars? Their other IPA's leave me cold.

Busy brewery with constant flow of patrons, great selection of craft beer though the pizzas were average

Where do I start! Everyone I’ve encountered that worked here was delightful, and of course the pizza and beer was incredibly delicious. But, I’ve just been down in Gizzy for my grandmothers funeral and have been there every night (I even wrote her Eulogy here over a pizza and beer), and felt truly looked after. And man, I already miss those pizzas.

Exceeded expections in every way. A variety of great beers on tap and truly excellent pizza. A little pricey, but well worth a visit.

Tried 6 beers, all were great 👍. Especially the red hazy and the ipa. Driving so settled on the light pilsner which was awesome. Pizzas tasty as.
Cheers

Choice line up of brews and a great pizza/snacks menu. Take a stop if you’re in town, just be sure to have a ride home!

Stopped off after a walk along the beach for a sneaky beer ( or two ). Great beer selection and amazing pizzas

Good Pizza and many beers to taste. Friendly staff that helps with the choice.

This place should have way more reviews and all of them must be 5 stars!
The beer is excellent and the pizza and beer nuts are outstanding too!
The prices are very reasonable as well,
great place!

Busy brewery - with some nice brews available. Pizza was a bit questionable and took 50 mins to come out when not that busy. They were also out of all ciders which was a shame as two ppl from our group didn’t drink beer. Nice atmosphere though and good beer selection.

Pizza is absolutely delicious here, the patio is nice and has a great atmosphere. The staff are friendly and helpful and the drinks are delicious with something for everyone.

Enjoyed a delightful lunch at Bushmere Estate during a rainy day despite being short-staffed and busy due to a large group reservation. Received good service and had the opportunity to indulge in their flight style wine tasting for an affordable price of $12 per person. Highly recommend visiting this establishment for a fantastic lunch, which would likely be even better on a sunny day. The option of dining amidst the vineyard adds to its appeal.
Didn’t wine taste, we only sat down for lunch after a rail bike tour. Service was excellent, location - stunning and crucially, the food was delicious. The manager was apologetic that there was a bit of a wait but the wait times were pretty reasonable & the food came out relatively quick. We had the hummus dip with fresh crunchy bread, a cannelloni with creamy ricotta spinach filling and sticky lamb ribs which was finger licking good. Highly recommend.

We were a group of 10 for a wine tasting. Shona was so great - answered all our questions, didn't rush us at all, and was super engaging. We could see how passionate she was about what she does. We thought the tasting for $7.50 was a steal and the cheese and bread platters were amazing! Totally recommend.

We had wine tasting with cheese and bisquit platter during a bicycle ride around Gisborne. The wines were great and the hosts provided excellent and educational facts and background about the wines. A couple bottles were bought as takeaway. It was a warm and welcoming encounter, highly recommended.

Very impressed from start to finish. Warmly greeted, taken to a lovely outdoor setting for two (have been before with work, which bought me back). It was clear that everything was cooked with love and it was beautifully presented. The staff were attentive and friendly, and the wait times between dishes was spot on. Thank you for providing a lovely dining experience. We will be back.

We had an absolutely delicious lunch here on a rainy day when they were understaffed and busy with a large group booking. Despite this, we still received good service and their flight style wine tasting was still available (for a very reasonable $12 pp). I would highly recommend coming for a great lunch - and I’m sure it would be twice as good on a nice day.

We have just been treated to a very special wine tasting hosted by the owner, David. Fabulous presentation by a passionate owner, to compliment the fabulous array of quality wines.
Mark Long — Google review
We did several wine tastings around NZ, and Bushmere was our favorite. It was fun and approachable with delicious wines. We purchased a few bottles to take home.

Excellent option. Having lunch by the vineyard is pretty special. We were a group of 10 celebrating the end of the year. They had several groups in different areas, a very busy day. However, the crew managed very well to serve us. We all enjoyed food, beers, wine, an awesome selection of ciders and the atmosphere. Definitely worth it.
Nadia Martins — Google review
Had the most amazing lunch today. The Charcuterie platter with a side of Snapper Ceviche was to die for. With a nice bottle of their Bushmere Estate Sauvignon Blanc. Beautiful peaceful setting amongst the vines.Staff were very friendly and happy. If in Gisborne highly recommend going. We will be back.

I can't speak highly enough of this place. We did the wine tasting, and had a meal. The Vinyard owner was just so passionate about presenting his wines to us - he had us captivated. We tasted six wines for $7.50 nz per person, which we thought was very reasonable and the food was exceptional.

Absolutely amazing. A fabulous boutique winery. $5 for 5 wines and great hosting with them. Also dined and the food was superb. Desserts devine. A must if in Gisborne.

Very interesting wine tasting with background info. The time and effort David took to explain to us the specifics of each of the wines he makes was really special. Will enjoy his sparkling Pinot Gris for New Year. Cheers!

Another wine region to consider exploring is the area around Matawhero, which includes Matawhero Wines and Bridge Estate Vineyard. Matawhero Wines offers a charming outdoor dining setting where visitors can sample their wines and enjoy platters. Similarly, Bridge Estate Vineyard, open from Wednesday to Sunday, provides another opportunity to experience the local wines. Additionally, Bushmere Estate in Makaraka offers a more upscale wining and dining experience at their Vines restaurant.
Wrights has a special connection to me as they're Chardonnay was the tipple of choice for our engagement lunch. It's delicious. Love the values and journey of the family and can't wait to go visit the Winery one day!

Fantastic experience. Family friendly. The kids were able to easily play. Gourmet picnics available to build your own. Excellent explanations of wine.

Lovely place where we stoped for a wine testing moment after work, 12$ the 4 wines, that you can choose. We really liked it, meet a nice French lady who explained us everything. The outside is cute, and just next to the vineyard.
Léa Brach — Google review
Beautiful outdoor eating area, although it is right beside the noisy highway. Decent white wines, and great food here, especially the pizzas. Service was friendly and informative regarding the wines.

We had an amazing experience when visiting Wrights Vineyards and winery. We spent a nice time and had the chance to taste several wines, the Chardonnay Reserve is outstanding.
jean-pierre Poncet — Google review
Wine was good. New staff who did not know the wine, which was odd. Good bread with the wine. Live music was a bonus. The children of the family who owned the winery were ok for me but others were not happy about how boisterous bordering on feral they were.

We've been getting Wrights' wines for a number of years now and we have always been very pleased with them. The quality is excellent.

Pizza was lovely. Service was friendly, and attentive. Pleasant environment with sunny, shady, and even bean bag seating options... We got a discount from grabone.

Loved this place once we figured how the "picnic" menu worked.
1. There's a big self-service fridge where you grab Ciabatta, crackers, cheeses, olives, pesto etc. yourself.
2. Prices for the different items are on a black-board by the cabinet (sorry I should have included a photo).
3. Cutlery is also by the cabinet, grab what you want and take it to the cash register.
4. Order a glass of wine, or a taster ($12 - cheap!!) of 4. There was only one red available for tasting when we were there.
5, Take your wine and "picnic" outside to one of the tables, or eat inside, and enjoy!
Food was great, wine was yummy, price was good, atmosphere was great. The French staff member was friendly and helpful. The only downside was the noise from the road, and the building and grounds could do with a cobweb/leaf cleanup.
The 135-hectare arboretum offers many exotic & native trees/shrubs, a visitor center & guided tours.
We did a jeep tour with Martin which was amazing. It was really informative - we thoroughly enjoyed learning the history and understanding the value of this incredible resource. We were served a delicious lunch at the beautiful Tasty Leaf cafe which completed this experience. We highly recommend a trip to this beautiful place which surprised and delighted us. Many thanks to the wonderful team who went out of their way to ensure we enjoyed our time. Angele, Wendy and Gail

Stunning!!!!
Lots of parking, including areas for bikes and accomodation users.
Beautiful incline entry to the main reception building, which also includes cafeteria, discovery room, giftshop, accomodation rooms and toilets. Gorgeous outside eating area.
Map from reception is a great guide to help navigate but here are so many paths which make for lovely exploratory walks.
Many different styles of planting that make fantastic use of external views and vista's while creating gorgeous showpieces within.
Can't wait to go back!!!

This is not a hotel, whatever Google thinks...
Unfortunately closed without any further information on the website or at the entrance, just an orange barrier to say that it is dangerous for health to enter. We tried calling but nobody answered too... check ahead. Maybe at the visitor centre.
We drove all the way from Gisborne on a rainy day and couldn't visit, we found Rere waterfall and a rock slide nearby but otherwise the entire trip would be a huge waste of time.

Most beautiful place for plant and tree lovers. Gem of a place, nature at its best. Well marked walks, scenery, bird life spectacular. Hosts are amazing . Coffee shop excellent. Baked goodies are brilliant freshly baked daily. Facilities are well maintained clean, definitely a day outing for all , nice playground for kids. This beautiful place has alot of history behind it and over all 10/10. This place is awesome.

Lovely place. Interesting range of species and history. Would improve if some of the specimens were labelled. Outstanding species should be identified on a map for a true arboretum experience. But still a lovely morning out and a great asset for Gisborne.

Eastwood hill is stunning. If you’re looking for a place to slow down and connect with nature this is it. You could visit a number of times and still discover something new on their many tracks. You make it a day trip or stay overnight. We stayed for 2 nights and enjoyed the cosy fireplace, comfy bunk rooms, and learning the history of the arboretum from the friendly staff. Highly recommend visiting in Autumn as the trees were all changing colour.
Emma Mudgway — Google review
I had a fabulous walk through this beautiful space. I liked the trails and way that this was very natural. It was peaceful and quiet with lots of bird noises. It is about 20 minutes drive from the roundabout. Keep up the great work.

What an awesome experience. Stopped in here for a cycle on the Motu trails to Rere Falls and decided to investigate it and do a short walk. What an impressive history and NZ treasure. Did a short walk (yellow) but will be back to do longer walks on next visit to Gisborne. Such a variety of trees that you cannot even imagine. If you have the time visit it!

Must visit! Super underrated spot. 25kms worth of walking tracks, various levels and accessibility options. Cosy cafe with lovely baked treats. Great park area for the kids, and a wonderful discovery centre / library. Great history, very affordable and lovely staff. Cute shop too.
Rebecca Muser — Google review
Came here to walk around the arboretum and explore the nature. I really wanted to like this place; it had a lot of things I would enjoy. Plenty of trees, beautiful walking paths... But the routes and maps were utterly incomprehensible. Paths were not clearly marked and the map was no help. It looked like an artist's impression of what a map should be - no scale, no orientation points and no distinction between main or side paths. We got lost several times following the green route before giving up and just wandering around, but I feel like we missed out on a lot of stuff because we kept going in circles. Again, a shame because all the potential was there, but in the end we left only feeling frustrated.

Beautiful place to visit! Unfortunately someone decided that the tables there would look better at their house. Apart from that, this place is truly beautiful.

Beautiful waterfalls, very busy, not so deep which is good for kids and kids at heart.
However, sign mention: waters not safe.
Nice shaded area for parking.

Reached there around 8am on a bright sunny day of a weekend and nobody else was there. A glamorous waterfall, specially with the complete blue sky 😍

Great scenery, secluded and quiet when we went. The road (about 30km towards Rere Falls) from Gisborne after the highway was a little challenging due to road construction and potholes, gotta drive with care.
Henri Ong — Google review
It was closed due to the bank side being damaged, so I parked at the entrance on the side of the road. Has a very big car park, toilets, rubbish bin, and table and seating.
Waterfall is right at car park, so very little effort to see this spectacular waterfall

The day we went was after a long dry spell but still a amazing water Fall would be much better after some rain
Russell Paget — Google review
As it has been raining a lot lately, the falls were spectacular and we got some great photos. The water was warm, though you need to watch for submerged tree branches when walking out in the water and swimming. At lot of tree debris have been washed down stream during the recent storm's and could do with clearing.
There's park benches by the waterfall so a nice place to relax, have a picnic and watch the waterfall.
Chris Barrow — Google review
Definitely the best stop when in Gisbourne! So much fun to be had. Make sure to bring a body board to slide down the natural slip n slide. Then spend some time at the waterfall, can even walk behind & slide or jump off. Amazing fun for all ages
Great fun! Take a hard body board or a lilo. It’s also a great spot for a picnic lunch.

Soooo beautiful and healing!!!
Tips: might not be friendly drive / trip if you have motion / car sickness 🚙 but if you can hang in there it's really worth it 😉
Another tip: pick warm and sunny day ☀

The rock slide is a lovely natural wonder which looks like it would be fun on the right day.
The reason for the low rating is re all the untidy Kiwis, there was rubbish all over the place, even in the water, blow up mattresses, tyres, bottles etc. The rubbish bins were overflowing with rubbish on the ground. If you have driven all this way with the food, drink, body boards, mattresses etc, take it all home with you. This was the worst I have ever come across in NZ. Not a good picture.
Darryl Scowen — Google review
It's okay, not great, but ok.
There aren't enough trees to sit underneath, there are only two pinic tables down there, but they're so close together. You might as well take both.
The water isn't clean, quite grotty, my daughter found a used sanitary pad in there.
And the rubbish up top is quite off putting.
Shekinah Hakaraia — Google review
You HAVE to do this. BYO boogie board. saw people doing this on inflatable mattresses, but boogie boards work best. A reasonable drive there from Gisborne but well worth it. The rocks were smooth and it looked a bit freaky, but it was pretty safe, only drama was when some kids went down with people still exiting the water and nearly got taken out. Adults at the top soon sorted it out, but probably best to call people out doing that to keep it safe. Awesome fun though. Toilets you can get changed in are near the car park.
mrshinnz — Google review
that's amazing nature you could have fun along
Beau 707 — Google review
A lot of fun if you are adventurous - imagine it would be even better if there had been a good rainfall before. A boogie board with handles would be better and safer than the assortment of yoga mats, etc that we saw
Alison Toia — Google review
There are two car parks, one at top and one at the bottom where the toilet is. There are tables and seating next to the rock slide. It's such an awesome way to cool off on a hot day. I highly recommend doing.
Leon Khan — Google review
A great place for families, no shops so a good idea to take your own food and drinks, also boogie boards, blow up air mattress and blow plastic rings to slide down on, had an awesome time.
RJBS — Google review
It looks like it could be fun, however, this would be after some rain. When we visited it was low flow and even with a boogey board etc, I wouldn’t have gone for a slide. The nearby waterfall is a better picnic spot!
Also, be careful, there is a a top carpark where camper vans should park because the bottom area does not have much space to park or turn.
Shaun Davidge — Google review
Looks like a great place to have fun sliding down the rock slides. There are warning signs up giving advice and injury is a possibility. We were on our own, so decided it wasn't safe to try, also no mobile phone connection available for emergency.
I would definitely recommend a body board or mattress for sliding down. There's a fairly deep pool at the bottom, worth checking out for obstructions hidden under water before sliding (submerged free branches etc).
Chris Barrow — Google review
Absolutely awesome natural place. Bring your own boogie board, tire or a floating device have hours of fun. Even if you don't this is a natural formation unlike any other that is just worth coming and looking at for hours. Mind that the toilet is not serviced very often, maybe contact local authorities if that's the deal breaker.
Here you can also find bunch of table for the picnic and couple of other cool places around to visit and walk around like rere falls
Edgar Kidulis — Google review
Such a great day out for everyone. For the adventurous the rockslide is terrific endless fun. You can go again and again. Make sure you bring a body board but if you forget there are some broken ones in the skips. You can also bring smaller children as there is an area suitable for them to play.
Morere Hot Springs is a 363-hectare reserve located in a natural bush setting, offering hot and cold pools hidden within native rainforest. Visitors can enjoy a large hot indoor swimming pool, cold outdoor pool, and two hot pools with a cold plunge pool accessible via a 10-minute walk through the bush. The area features stunning Nikau forest and picturesque river crossings, although some paths may be challenging for certain individuals.
The most amazing Nikau forest I have seen anywhere in New Zealand. The moss on all the rocks in the river crossings were also absolutely idyllic more so that I have seen elsewhere. The river crossings were an absolute highlight however these were a bit tricky with paths across high cliffs with big drop offs to walk, so certainly not for everyone. As an experienced tramper I had not expected much out of this reserve, but don't let the concrete path for the first five minutes fool you, a very worthwhile experience with a hot dip at the end.
Carla McDougall — Google review
Beautiful hot springs in the natural bush setting! $14 pp. Large hot indoor swimming pool and cold outdoor pool. A 10 min walk through the bush goes to the Nikau pools where there is 2 hot pools and a cold plunge pool. Changing facilities basic but hot showers available in main area near kiosk. Friendly staff. It was quiet and we had the pools all to ourselves. Worth going if passing!
Wild Lovely World (Travel Blog) — Google review
This is based on the entry to the bottom pools only and not the private pools. The heated pool is nice but would be too small on a busy day. The changing rooms seem decades old. The toddlers pool is flaking paint which isn’t ideal. Overall it was an average experience. (If people rate this 5 star they clearly haven’t visited Hanmer Springs). The walks are really good though and recommend the Nikau track.
Shane Lynam — Google review
Went for a soak during the week in the private pools, was lovely and peaceful! Well needed place to relax and wind down after a full on weekend. Beautiful scenery and was able to stay in the private pools longer due to no one booked after us. Definately need to make this a monthly thing.

This is one of the most memorable experiences I have had this xmas....48km from gisborne into some of New Zealand most glorious bush and mountains.
More hot springs offer peace, tranquility, rejuvenation, and relaxation...along with a wonderful Greenstone and Paua shop.
There are trekking hikes from 20minutes to 2.5 hours through some outstanding bush bringing you down and around to some of the most beautiful rivers and waterfalls I have ever seen...
After a trek Morere offers a swim and rejuvenating soak in the natural mineral pools...either private or public...these pools bring your body and soul back into alignment leaving you feeling like a new person with no cares in the world....then on the way out the greenstone and paua shop is a must to visit with some very beautiful pieces made by the lovely gentleman running the store ...all pieces blessed as they are made....and not to mention the lovely ladies at reception...friendly and full of information with a smile all the way. .thankyou so much....I highly recommend

Morere Hot Spring is a great place to relax for a couple of hours, when you’re driving from Napier to Gisborne.
It’s well located and inviting everyone for a driving break.
Nikau Pools are reachable after a short walk through the forest, besides the river, beautiful view.
There’re 3 pools with different temperatures.
Changing room, shower and toilet.
22.03.21 at the moment the showers for men and women are out of order, you can just use the ones at the main pool.
Highly recommended place!!!

What a fab spot. We loved our walk up through the nikau grove and the top pools were lovely and warm on a cloudy day, and soo relaxing. We then ambled the short route back to the large pool, practicing native tree and shrub names on the way. The set up is simple, but clean. Super friendly staff at the entrance, too. Highly recommended.
We did it with our 1 and 2 year old. It was steep to begin with, but the 2 year old managed to walk the whole way with just his hand held and tips on where to place his feet.
The caves were very muddy once the steps ended.
Emily Lloyd — Google review
Wonderful walk in, across farmland, first bit is steep, but the remainder of the walk in is easy. The bottom of the main cave can have patches of mud after rain, but I would recommend climbing the ladders and venturing further into the caves (note they stop 100M or so in) Bring a TORCH, and enjoy the caves! The family loved it!

It's great that the farmer allows us access through his property too experience these caves. They are not huge by any means and saw 3 glow worms. Still I would say it's worth it. Good foot wear and a torch a must

Great starter track with a nice cave at the middle. Well worth the trip and my 6 and 7 year old had no trouble. If anything they still had heaps of energy when the walk was done. Remember to take a torch, your phone light will not be enough.

Hidden in middle of the farm. quiet steep climb in the beginning, then about 15 mins walk across the field then you can see the cave entrance. bring your torch and gumboot, you will need them

Access is over a private farm, so close gates behind you. The caves are a 20 min walk, one way, with steep stair cases. Stalactites, stalagmites, Calcium wall build up.

Me and my husband have always loved going to the movies. After we had a baby going out seemed just that little bit harder. New years eve we finally built up the courage to go see a film with our 8 month old. Very child friendly. There was an area behind the seating where I could settle my baby to sleep (my daughter is not one to fuss much in public and is rather easy to put to sleep)and continue watching the film. Would definitely go again

Well placed for a beach front holiday with popular walkway nearby, which was nice. We had a comfortable two roomed unit which allowed family to visit us. Would stay there again.
Information that was given to us was, get a pie and sit by the river. We queried the waterfalls and the person we spoke to had no knowledge of whether the waterfalls around the areas were swimmable and which were the best spots.

We had decided to stop in Wairoa at the last minute and jumped off the bus. This place was very welcoming, helped us get transportation to our motel. Then when we had a 4 hour wait for our bus after checking out, stored our bags and suggested places to go in town. Very friendly and helpful.
Lake Waikaremoana, located in the remote wilderness of New Zealand's North Island, offers a backcountry experience amidst lush forests, waterfalls, and stunning lake views. This area is rich in Maori history and is home to a variety of walking tracks, including the Lake Waikaremoana Great Walk. The trek features some uphill sections but is generally manageable for most hikers. It's recommended to visit during summer when there are more people around and the weather is milder.
Beautiful, Spiritual , absolutely stunning place .

I'd recommend going during the summer because there will be more people around and because it gets quite cold up there on the winter. The trek is not that hard, it does have some uphill parts that will make you a little tired depending on how heavy your stuff is. Don't forget to bring enough food if you're doing the whole walk, make sure you bring fire sources and a good camping knife. Water and wood are provided at the huts.
You'll have beautifull views of the lake, it is worth a visit.

Beautiful Lake and heaps to do in the region. If coming from north the gravel road is intense and takes a good car and experienced driver. Definatley worth it when you get there it is beautiful and serene, the forest and surrounding lakes are also mind blowing. Ultimate place to relaxation and exploring nature at its finest and untouched. The photos form the lake high up are from Loos lookout its a 30 min walk up, and 15 mins down

A favourite location, beautiful ancient forests, love the several hours worth of gravel roads to this remote haven.
We've seen kiwi, and weka roadside, and wild pig, deer from the road whilst in transit.
Crystal clear streams, and best during and after rain, with everything fresh and misty. The waterfalls are also beautiful to search out.
Take care on the roads, look out for rockfalls, wild stock roaming, including cattle and horses.
Always remember to take out what you take in, especially your rubbish.

First thing to know is you can complete the walk either way which means starting the walk from Onepoto Carl park or take the taxi to Whanganui hut and walk back to Onepoto car park.
We started our walk from Onepoto car park. Stay led first night at Panekiri hut, beautiful place to stay first night it being the highest point of the whole tramp. Surrounded with beautiful views of the lake as the pictures might explain. We ended up booking a little late therefore had to camp out in Maranui hut which was not a bad place to be except for the sand flies that sting you places you never knew you could be bitten. We underestimated our walk for the third day as we left Korokoro waterfall and walk to Marauiti Hut not knowing it would take us 6-7hours to reach there. So if you are staying at the campsite on second night better complete waterfall same day.
Last day walk was awesome mostly flat, few hill climbs here and there but nothing major.
All in all I would recommend this walk to everyone. Such an amazing job done by Department of Conservation. Not to forget the boat ride back to the car park is the cherry on top of the great walk, pick pointing all the places you would have walked in those four days.
Can't wait to come back

Shine Falls is a stunning waterfall that stands tall at 58m and can be found within a native forest. The area boasts an abundance of birdlife and various looped trails for visitors to explore. Located about 20km inland off SH2, it offers a remote and back-country type environment that is perfect for holiday makers seeking adventure. The car park is spacious enough to accommodate at least 20 cars, making it easy for visitors to access the falls.
Wonderful walk in the countryside where you can see limestone and Sandstone cliffs, grazing sheep, bush and waterfalls. While you travel over unsealed road for about 6kms to get there, it is totally worth it. Be wary there may be prickles on the path in places and if its a hot day, take a sunhat and your water bottle

Beautiful waterfall , unfortunately due to cyclone Gabrielle you can’t access it fully . We reached far enough to see it but it’s too dangerous to go close enough to swim . The trek is a bit trickier now with all the damage but not too bad. 2 hours there and back

A beautiful majestic & tall waterfall at least 20km inland off SH2. Its remote & back-country type environment that’s holiday makers paradise. The car park is big enough to park at least 20 cars. It’s a quite easy & enjoyable walk from the car park to the waterfall, via open land, then gentle uphill, then bush walk & finally reaching the Falls. It’s only 20-30 mins one way depends on physical status. The water is clear & cool. It’s great to have a great soak & dip after the walk
Ernest Wong — Google review
Spectacular waterfall that flows over towering sandstone cliffs into a small pool. The track to Shine Falls starts in open grassy farmland that meanders under towering sandstone and limestone cliffs then passes through a patch of native bush in the Boundary Stream Scenic Reserve before arriving at the falls where there is a swimming hole and picnic tables. Stunning spot to go for a walk or even a swim if you are brave.
Anthony Cross — Google review
Breathtaking. Done the walk in bare feet with a friend and it was a bit hard on the feet so we used the natural resources (leaves on the terrain) to improvise and make something to cover them.
Would highly reccomend this 40 minute walk that takes you to a beautiful waterfall with ice cold water and spectacular views.
Vincent — Google review
Stunning waterfall, well worth the 45 minute walk each way. The track starts across farmland with huge rock formations - and lots of cowpats. The track is narrow and slippery in places - a hiking stick would be useful. Pretty bush, lots of bird song and crystal clear water.
Donaleen Shiell — Google review
An amazing magical place, a relatively easy walk in, allow 30-45 minutes. A little steep in places, so ensure you have good walking footwear. The waterfall is impressive at 58 metres high, the pool is refreshing and safe, however deep around the edges and near and behind the fall. There's sheltered picnic tables at the car park and a long drop toilet (bring toilet paper and hand sanitizer). Also recommend you take your own drinking water and food/snacks and take all your rubbish out with you.
The road there once off the highway is mostly gravel and narrow in places. Drive safely and enjoy. No overnight camping allowed.

One of the highlights for my trip to New Zealand. Very large waterfall. Pretty much had the fall to ourselves. We even saw a giant eel! I would but this on your list if you're doing a road trip.

DOC has 2 hour return but for us was 1 hour return. We went during winter and I believe it was the best time to go because of the volume of rain that makes this waterfall awesome. I really enjoyed the tranquility and beauty of this Fall. One of my top 5 waterfalls I have visited in New Zealand.
Ravi Lal — Google review
Fantastic place, easy enough walk for a toddler (3yo) took 1:15 with toddler walking themselves most of the way. Pond at the bottom of the waterfall has a nice sandy bottom and is refreshing to wade/swim in. Walk has minimal dangers. Highly recommended.
Waipatiki Beach Holiday Park, situated 30 minutes north of Napier in Hawkes Bay, offers a tranquil environment that sets it apart from other family-oriented holiday parks in the region. The campsites and cabins are well-spaced out, and there's a noise curfew enforced by staff after 10 pm. The beach can be rough at times but is patrolled by lifeguards during peak hours, while young children can play safely in the shallow stream nearby.
Fantastic stay here for Christmas. Thank you so much! Shane and Fay are lovely hosts and so hard working, even on Christmas Day! One of the fridges packed up an was replaced within an hour or so on Christmas Day - a testament to how attentive and hardworking they are. We will definitely be back in a hurry. The beach was beautiful and the facilities were awesome and cleaned every day, there was even a bait freezer available for use! Showers were great, $1 for hot as clearly advertised on booking, but we mainly had cold which was good for us in the heat. Thanks again, what a gem of a spot!!
Rachel Hooks — Google review
Really nice campground, we stayed for 4 nights and loved the holiday vibe (it was between Christmas and New Year). Great campsite for kids and not too big. There's probably not enough showers and toilets at peak times, but we managed fine. You have to wade through a river to get to the beach, but it's only knee/thigh high. The river was great for our SUP and the beach was also great.

Definitely worth a stop. Owners are responsive and flexible. Sites are clean and well maintained. Beach is a little walk but it is worth it for sandy beach tucked between two towering cliffs. A great getaway if you are passing through or looking for a long holiday.

Lovely spot in a beautiful part of NZ. The beach is great and the bush walks nearby are awesome. We had two self contained cabins, one that had been renovated and one that hadn't. Both were very basic, but had most things that you would need. Both had cockroaches. Renovated one was much warmer and had working shower and clean toilet. The shower in the other one was unusable (just a dribble when turned to hot), the toilet was disgusting and didn't flush properly. There were mice running around the room at night keeping us awake. There were mouse droppings around the kitchen and bed. A mouse nibbled the corner of our chiller bag. Bunks were very squeaky and unstable with broken bars. There were only 4 chairs in a cabin for 6 people.

Great location.
Owners are really friendly, even during the very busy times. Facilities are good and clean.
Pitches are various sizes, so if you have a big tent or van, check ahead.
Christmas and New Year are very popular with regulars, so I suggest you book early and aim for mid Jan.
There are some nice short (3-4km) walks with great views close by.
The beach is great, but you need to use your brain and stay between the flags so the surf life savers can keep an eye on you.
Neil Beckett — Google review
There is a shower & toilet located near the entrance of the camp ground, however this is not available for use most of the time. This is a shame as it would be more convenient if you are based in that area. The main facilities could be cleaned a little more thoroughly, there are cobwebs present & the level of cleaning isnt always up to standard. In saying that, it is a beautiful spot & a great place to stay, & the hosts are really friendly. Just a couple of improvements would make it perfect

First time staying here and the owners made us feel very welcome. Facilities were cleaned daily and the owners were very onto fixing issues - broken fridge was replaced within an hour, and on Xmas day! Camp store had some good essential items plus the usual treats. Thanks again team, we had an awesome Christmas stay!

Classic kiwi camping ground. Not oversized or overstated. Loads of extra parking as we had 2 vehicals and could use the free space on site to park instead of cramming vehicals onto our tent site. Priced very fair we thought. Good amenities. Great hosts. Kids could simply roam the camp and play without concern which is great for parents. Short 300-400m walk to a great beach and lagoon(lagoon is excellent for smaller children or simply as change from the ocean). Hope to go back next year.

Had a really disappointing stay. Facilities were filthy. Cabin we hired didn’t look like it had a clean in yonks. Smelt really bad by the recycling bay. Far walk to the beach. No umbrellas up on the outdoor tables so very hard to find shade and no tree coverage. Low maintenance for what we paid. Cobwebs in the kitchen. No cutlery at all so provide your own full kitchen utensils. Fridge was leaking water dripping onto the food in the fridge? Bathrooms ran out of loo paper. Not sure if everybody was aware you needing to have coins for showers so felt for the foreigners confused as to why they couldn’t have a hot shower? Very disappointed stay.
Do not recommend.

Bluff Hill Lookout is an iconic tourist attraction in Napier, offering stunning views of the city, ocean, and harbour. Situated on top of Mount Maunganui, the lookout point was built to give people a better understanding of Napier's changing landscape and to help define specific areas around town. Offering stunning perspectives of the port below and Hawkes Bay's coastline, Bluff Hill Lookout is definitely one sight not to be missed when visiting Napier.
An excellent view at the lookout with toilets and drinking water nearby. Be careful on the drive up as roads are really narrow!

Good view over the northern part of the bay and the ports. Nice drive / walk up through nice neighbourhood. Some more interpretive / informative signage would have been great and you can’t actually see to the south over Napier town which I thought you could

The fun starts on the drive up to the lookout. Cool route up to the lookout with lots of signage directing drivers. The lookout has really amazing views over a large portion of Napier and Hawkes bay. There was a fair amount of parking up at the lookout point and a toilet was also available. Great spots to take photos when up in Napier.

Not a great drive up, very steep and had my partner very stressed and telling me to find another way down cause he wasn't doing that again. BUT... the view was beautiful and much worth the stressful drive up (much easier coming down). You've got to go on a sunny day to get the best results. You can see the coast line and the port and ships out at sea. Great place to take photos

Waipunga Falls is a stunning 40-meter waterfall located in the midst of a verdant rainforest. Surprisingly, it's easily accessible by car, making it a convenient pit stop for travelers driving from Napier to Taupo. The falls offer a picturesque view from a distance, although there's no option to get closer. Despite this limitation, the falls are particularly impressive after periods of heavy rainfall.
We were driving from Napier to Taupō and planned this pit stop to break up the drive. This stop was perfect, has a dedicated car park and the view of the waterfall from a distance was perfect for us. It would have been good to have had the chance to walk down to see it closer but not available for this beauty. If you want a quick stop and snap; this is perfect!

Spectacular falls in an amazing lush forest park.
Blink and you'll miss it though.
Add it to your Google directions and make sure you at least stop at the capital for a look.
Good on a wet day as well as a fine one. Take a long lens: it's quite a way from the car park!
I'd give it a better rating but I was unable to get closer the day I visited.

This is a scenic stopover on the Napier to Taupo SH5 highway.
It's just 2 or 3 hundred meters off the main road and has a sizable carpark at the falls viewing point.
We've seen these falls during times of low rainfall and they were barely a trickle. With all the rain we've had this year, they are quite impressive.

Great view of this waterfall across the valley from the carpark. Good halfway point between Taupo & Napier for a break. Shame about the amount of rubbish people leave around - always happens when no rubbish bins are provided. The "take your rubbish with you" thing never happens.

The Napier -SITE Visitor Information Centre is a great place to start your exploration of Napier. Located in the heart of the city, it has everything you need to know about the area before you visit. The center is divided into two sections, one for information and the other for souvenirs. There are plenty of pamphlets and books available to help you plan your trip, and staff are always happy to help out if you need it.

One side of the center is for information while the other side has souvenirs. 100 Marine Parade, Napier South, Napier 4110, New Zealand
The Sunken Gardens, located just below street level in Marine Parade, are a beautiful and serene spot to enjoy a picnic or immerse yourself in nature. The garden is open to the public and has been caringly tended to ever since it opened in 1969. It is a perfect location for wedding photos or as an idyllic spot for relaxation.
Beautiful place to come and relax. Quiet and peaceful

Lovely garden even late spring
Mary Sue Hopper — Google review
It was a bit different having the garden below street level. I came by through the beach walkway through the Reef Gardens. The area is actually quite tranquil and very peaceful. There were quite a few flowers and plants even though it was winter. I quite liked the waterwheel and the water feature which passes through the garden. The sculpture in the middle was very different. There were a few benches but otherwise it didn't look like it was a good idea to sit on the grass. It is quite close to the information center so probably a good place to visit especially if you are roaming the beach area.

Immaculate gardens. We come here with a blanket and pillows to relax and eat takeaways on Sundays.

The gardens used to be beautiful i it's losing it's attraction remember the water wheel when I visit the gardens the first time
it wasn't tuning it doesn't look like it's been maintained

Nice garden area to relax and or read a book. You'll find it along the art deco walkway.

Nice tranquil garden area secluded below the road and beach walkway. There are plenty of large round garden beds planted in a variety of flowers, succulents and other plants. There is an interesting sculpture in the central pond and a nice little waterwheel off to one corner. A lovely quiet spot to sit and escape the bustle of the city.
Anthony Cross — Google review
The flower beds and gardens are almost always beautifully presented. Nice place to walk to and be calm! The gardens are not actually sunken - they are at the original level it is everything around it that rose during the earthquake !
Adore Collection — Google review
Beautiful gardens, well tended flower beds and pathways. The hydrangeas were splendid, several colors and quite pretty! The water wheel was a pleasant surprise as well!

Marine Parade is home to Six Sister Coffee House, a charming spot just a short walk from Swiss-Belboutique Napier. This eatery offers a delightful menu featuring breakfast, brunch, and lunch options. Whether you're vegetarian, vegan, or gluten-free, there are plenty of choices to satisfy your cravings.
The National Aquarium of New Zealand is a large aquarium located in Napier, New Zealand. The facility has exhibits on marine and land animals as well as an underwater tunnel and shark encounters.
Great experience for the whole family with lots to explore & see. My youngest daughter has been fascinated by the underwater world and so we found ourselves checking out fish, sharks, stingrays, penguins and many other marine creatures in the aquariums. The layout was great, exhibits were all well designed and interactive, and presentation during penguin feeding was educational & fun.
Best to arrive around 1pm in time for the little Penguin feeding at 1:30pm and Oceanarium Diver hand feeding at 2pm. Highly recommend a visit if you're in Napier.
Dan McLaughlin — Google review
Don't be fooled by the outside look. Once you're inside, you'll be surprised how big the aquarium is. It has a lot to offer.
Great place to go for families if you're in town and want to see aquatic life.
Ferdinand Go — Google review
My experience was really amazing! Welcoming staff and a nice variety of marine inhabitants. Try to visit it during feeding times to add more experience. Also don't forget to walk around the building to look at graffiti.
The only thing is that maybe I would like to see a little bit more of the penguins' area and can't wait till they have sea horses back.
But I definitely would like to come back and recommend this place to my friends.

This is such an AMAZING place. The animals were beautiful. I like the way you can go and come back again on the same day with one ticket.

I have been following the adorable penguins at the National Aquarium on social media for years - so I was so excited to finally have a chance to meet them at the aquarium! We did a penguin encounter, Matt was our guide and not only did he show us a great time with the penguins but he took us over to watch the divers feed the fish and was happy to chat with us about them! All of the staff we interacted with were very friendly and seemed to really enjoy what they do. We also got to see the elusive kiwi who was bustling around the enclosure when we came through. There were many interesting creatures and exhibits and it was a fun way to spend the afternoon. And I love the penguins more than ever!!

We found the price reasonable to get in and there was plenty to see. We enjoyed going on the conveyor, under the water the most. There was a fair variety of animals and good information about them all. Great for the kids, worth the stop if you have time.

Always a wonderful place to take my toddler, she never gets sick of it, so I save it for the rainy days. Lovely reception staff. Nice and clean facilities.

This one of the best aquariums ever. There are staffs around who tell you all the amazing facts and stories about the the animals in the place. The place is well sought out in terms of layout and they do give a map upon arrival; so u don't actually miss out on any enclosures.

This place is great to take the family! It has a display of a giant squid and a walk through fish tank where you can see the aquatic life swim all around you. There's also a second level with interactive educational displays for kids as well. I would highly recommend it!
Hebe Ormsby — Google review
Loved seeing all the animals and got to see the penguins at feeding time and they were adorable so definitely try and time your visit with the feeeding times. A couple of the interactive activities weren't working but didn't mind as they were more for the kids anyway. Great for children but anyone can go and enjoy their time here. Visited in November but forgot to review :)

Loved visiting the aquarium we got there early so managed to see the Penguin feeding so cute.. we then went to see the divers in the tank with the fish and the tunnel with the sharks stingrays and large fish was great.
Highly recommended for families or couples
Charmaine Ward — Google review
A great little aquarium. Good displays, and information throughout. Plenty of fish to see as well as penquins. A good sized tunnel going through, with part of the walk way in which moves. Friendly staff. There is a gift shop too with a wide range of things to buy. Worth while experience and great to bring kids along.
Christine Brandt — Google review
It's one of those places where you need to take your time to get your moneys worth. Also ring up to find out when events happen to get more bang for your dollar. Was hoping to see sharks but none were present, despite it being the mascot icon for the business. It's a good place for kids, however they do get inpatient so expect to race through it.
Troy Haronga — Google review
My kids liked it so I give it 5 stars.
Very nice aquarium for such a small town.
Very good day spent with family and a nice different activity to do with your kids.
The only thing that bothered me is how incredibly small the sea turtle aquarium is, it's really sad. I'm no turtle specialist but from what I saw during my visit I think she could do with something bigger even if she's alone in there.
Alex Icrelad — Google review
A wonderful experience at the aquarium.
My partner and I had a great time wandering through the aquarium seeing all the animals and reading their stories.
We finished up with the penguin feeding experience. Our guide was Sam and it was obvious that she really cares for the penguins here. She knew them all by name and we had a great time learning all the penguin personalities while feeding them.
I can't recommend it enough

Great atmosphere & great service! The people are so kind.
Always worth a stop in on your way through.
$26 per adult, but discounted if you’re local!
Great little side cafe & toilets throughout the walk
Tess Hutchings — Google review
Good aquarium. Small but lots to see. Only spent an hr and bit here.
Kiwi exhibition available. Was great to see one nice and close.
Does get busy, and try to avoid the cruising folk.
The price does not equate to the quality and exhibitions available. I believe it should be slightly cheaper.
Desiree — Google review
Amazing place where kids and adults can learn about sea creatures and some land animals and see a kiwi bird. We didn't expect much since this place was not listed among 10 best places to see Kiwi, but we were blown away by Kiwi. The enclosed is quite large for a single bird, and it is almost completely dark since Kiwi is nocturnal. But as your eyes adjust, you start to see objects behind the glass, and if Kiwi is not hiding, you will be able to observe how it finds food in the rotten logs or in the foliage on the ground. Besides Kiwi, you can also observe sting rays and other spies of fish, small penguins, giant sea turtles, iguanas, and other animals. Highly recommend!
Larisa Fay — Google review
Burny the penguin was my top highlight, that little guy is such a character. I enjoyed the fact there were lots of topics and interactive things to do, like the space section. Great way to see these creatures up close and its great to know they are being cared for when they aren't fit for the big wide world.

Nice aquarium. Not huge. Has a nice tunnel full of fish. Was a good way to pass the time. It's an easy walk aling the foreshore from the visitor centre.

A lovely family-friendly venue with a wide variety of aquatic life as well as some iconic NZ fauna (kiwi & tuatara). The little penguins are adorable and the tunnel through the main tank where stingrays fly through the water is amazing. Coupled with a yummy cafe and a good gift shop made a great excursion.

We visited with the kids' cousins, who are locals. The staff were so kind, especially in the gift shop when it took a while for the kids to decide. We enjoyed the scavenger hunt. We arrived in time to see the penguins being fed. Great to have the extra info.
The space rockets was a really fun activity. Dinosaurs and colouring also a hit with my kids. So much to explore!

546 Marine Parade, Napier South, Napier 4110, New Zealand
Cape Kidnappers is a scenic sandstone headland located in Napier, New Zealand. The name of the peninsula originates from a Maori attempt to kidnap one of Captain Cook's crew members. It boasts the largest gannet colony in the world, making it an ideal spot for bird-watching enthusiasts. The 19km stretch of beach leading up to Cape Kidnappers offers beautiful views along with potential hazards such as landslides that visitors should be cautious about.
Worthy to go, but careful about the tide.
Betty Zhao — Google review
A remarkable place to visit around the beach. A number of holiday parks available. Beach is clean for a swim however tides can be heavy.
Hash Khan — Google review
Another beautiful day 13/19/2023 in the Hawks Bay Region. The walk to Cape Kidnappers (Te Kauwae-a-Māui) must be taken during low tide and apparently takes 5 hours or more to walk. We did not partake and just enjoyed the view from this point. The cape also has the world's largest Gannet.
Annie Hackett — Google review
When we went there it was at our own risk and we actually saw a massive land slide
Those 19km along the beach are beautiful and it was really nice to see the Gannet colony!
Julie Alcover-Martinez — Google review
Could only drive to motor camp. There is another 3 hour walk from here at low tide. You can see the cliffs from the motor camp. Better to pay for a tour to see the ganats.
Kennedy — Google review
Even if you don’t go all the way to the bird colony at the end, it’s a stunning walk along the beach. Towering cliffs overhead. Beautiful geography. An easy to navigate beach walk, though pay attention to tides.
There are some inlets to explore that look like they fill with water when it rains. But don’t expect to be able to climb up to the top of the cliff face anywhere easily.
There is parking at the end of the road, then walking through a trailer park at the beginning of the beach.
Great views. Highly recommend this hike.
Kevin McPhillips — Google review
The gannet colony is not accessible by road anymore, because they decided to make the road directly to the colony private and closed.
Now you can either walk a 5h - mostly in direct sun - track (there and back), which you have to sync with the tide or go there by boat.
Of course u have to pay for the boat, how convenient that the road is closed now.
Just skip this region.
Tibor Girschele — Google review
The view is absolutely stunning! Remember to check the tide before you go. You can call to the office and they will tell you the exact time to start / end the walk. Whole walk is about 16km (6hrs - 7hrs).
There is a only toilet before you started to hike up the bluff to the Gannet Colony.
Rui Rui — Google review
Group bike ride out there awsum day but if you are going out there pick the tide time. We had a great time
Paul McBrearty — Google review
Nice scenic area and the Gannett colony you get very close to the birds its a 9 km hike along beach each way or pay 60 to ride on a tractor trailer with seats to get there

The Mission Estate Winery is a winery in Napier that has been in operation for over 160 years and is known for its quality wine. The winery also has beautiful surroundings and is popular for weddings, receptions, and conferences.
We biked to mission estate and it was glorious! Beautiful trees and surroundings with all the vines and the famous mission estate house! We got the platter and it was delicious! Such a variety of food and so well put together! We then did the $15 wine tasting, which was a great experience the host was lovely. We also got a complimentary cup with the tasting. I have also been to Elton John at the winery which was another great experience. Would highly recommend people check it out!

We enjoyed the beautiful ambiance with a selection of lovely wines and fantastic food from the restaurant. We had been disappointed with the food in New Zealand up until now, and this food excelled. The wines held their own and were very good. Shall be looking for these in the future. Great service and such a nice area.

This was not a great experience. Certainly not a fine dinning experience although the cost was of a fine dinning experience. I have certainly had better at napier. For eg: craggy range or central fire station.
I had the horseradish entree with steak and greens and chips. The chips were useless. Typical PAK’nSAVE chips.
Overall taste and value was 2/5.
The dessert was worth it though 4/5.
Overall bill with 2 drinks was 132$. There are better places to visit.

My partner and I came to Mission Estate Winery for a wine tasting, and had a wine time! It cost $10 per person to try 9 wines: 1 sparkling, 1 rosé, 3 white, 3 red, and 1 dessert. The portions were sizable, and the flavors were distinct from one another. We had our tasting on the porch overlooking the vineyard. The space is beautiful and well landscaped. Our guide was knowledgeable, engaged, and kind. I absolutely recommend coming here for a tasting!

I wanted to take a moment to express my heartfelt appreciation for the exceptional dining experience at Mission Winery Restaurant. From the moment I stepped in, I was captivated by the ambiance and warmth of the place. However, what truly stole the show was the extraordinary culinary journey orchestrated by the talented chef. The steaks, in particular, were a revelation. Cooked to a perfect medium rare, each bite was a symphony of flavors and textures, a testament to the chef's mastery in the kitchen. It's not an exaggeration to say that it was one of the best steak experiences I've ever had.The attention to detail and dedication to quality were evident in every dish served. Beyond the remarkable food, the service was impeccable, adding to the overall charm of the evening.I am genuinely grateful for the memorable dining experience at Mission Winery Restaurant and eagerly look forward to returning to savor more of the culinary delights crafted with such care and passion.

We had an outdoor seat on a very cold winter day - the heaters were on but it was still freezing. In winter there are no beautiful vines like the summer posts suggest! However, still a nice ambience.
Staff are clearly well trained by their mannerisms and attention to detail. However they are a bit stiff and could loosen up a little :)
Food was lovely and the portion sizes were huge (thank god). We walked around the grounds but we didn’t end up doing a tasting session. You can walk around the cellar freely which is nice.

Wow, wow, wow! I had high expectations of our visit to Mission Estate and you definitely did not disappoint! Firstly, the setting is absolutely beautiful, the history is amazing and the building itself is stunning. We arrived to a busy restaurant with function in full swing but the lovely gentleman at the desk seemed to be concerned with greeting us as soon as he could. We enjoyed a drink in the bar and some fabulous wine while we waited to be seated. The staff were very attentive and the meal was the best we experienced during our stay in Napier! The serving sizes were also very generous and I thought were very good value for mone, so for those scared off at "fine dining" be sure to visit as you will not be disappointed!
In summary, amazing staff and amazing food and wine!!!

Mission Estate is a place to go for great wine, good food and attentive service. We dined at the restaurant and had a wonderful evening. Food was well-flavoured, beautifully presented, the Reserve Syrah (which we were told had just the previous day won an award) was a delicious drop. Hubby ordered his venison rare but unfortunately it was a bit overdone and my snapper was the same. Nonetheless both were still tasty. Staff were friendly & chatty and were knowledgeable about their wines. A lovely way to spend a cold & rainy night.

It started raining not long after we arrived so couldn't really walk around their estate much but the bits we saw was beautiful
While they still mostly use egg proteins in their fining process the wine is still really good and I enjoyed working my way though a few if their offerings

The facade of the entrance of Mission Estate Winery has a colonial-style architecture. There’s a fountain right at the porch of the drive way which also acts as a round-about. Visitors can park on the sides as you approach the entrance of Mission Estate Winery.
Once inside, you’ll walk past the wine-tasting area where the wines available would be shown along with standing tables for wine-tasting.

Craggy Range is an iconic vineyard and restaurant located in the heart of New Zealand's Hawke's Bay. The property offers warm cottages and a chic lodge surrounded by lush vineyards, providing visitors with an opportunity to enjoy fine dining, event space, and wine tastings. Upon arrival, guests are greeted with a grand Mediterranean-style palace dedicated to wine-making. Many people visit Craggy Range for its cellar door or experience the two-hatted restaurant.
Visited for the first time to celebrate our wedding anniversary & the experience couldn't have been better. The menu looked fantastic & the sharing menu which we had I highly recommend. We were lucky enough to be able to snag a wine tasting experience without a booking, but book ahead to make sure you don't miss out. The staff were lovely and our wine connoisseur told us about each of the wines we were tasting, the regions and soil profile for each of the wines and how their wines might differ from others from the same region.
The wine tasting came in two different classes, with the base 'family' wines costing $35pp, and the prestige tasting $65pp. The prestige tasting includes more wines and also includes side by side tasting of different wines of the same variety or vintage - a real treat for anyone who enjoys wine. Whilst it was a little steep price wise to what we are used to, the whole tasting experience was unique and ultimately we were very happy to pay what we did.
The wines themselves were delicious and are to be enjoyed for what they are - don't compare them to what you might be used to from Australia/Europe etc. The Chardonnay was a treat and a real eye opener having never had a drinkable, let alone enjoyable, Chardonnay back home. The Sophia blend was also a real stand out.
Food platters were available and ours was delicious, showcasing beautiful local and seasonal produce. The caramelised walnuts were a hit.
The grounds and views from the cellar door were also amazing.
This winery is a must visit if you are in the Napier/Hawkes Bay region of NZ. Book ahead of time, and allow a good 2 hours at least to make the most of the whole experience if going for the premium tastings.

We went to Craggy Range winery, which was another amazing experience. First note: Bookings are Essential! Booking in hand, we arrived at this premier destination in Hawkes Bay. It is a family owned boutique winery with a restaurant, accommodations and well crafted, elegant wines. Based on the reviews, dinner would have been amazing; but, this wine experience was well worth every penny, creating memories that I am packing back to the States.
The hostess, Lauren, was friendly and welcoming. We appreciated her beyond words and felt immediately at home. Once seated at an outdoor table, we basked in the fantastic scenery
that is Te Mata Peak; and then our wine guru and educator, Michael, joined us at the table and the experience of being in the premier wine country of New Zealand came to life. Michael was wonderful. I asked him to speak slower, as I am not Kiwi-lingual; we laughed and he shared his amazing knowledge, from the story of the winery to his love and passion for each of the five wines I enjoyed. He knew his grapes and, as I asked a ton of questions, he jovially explained and shared his passion with me. It was awesome and a highlight of my trip.

Went in for a simple wine-tasting. The host offered us a private booth for the tasting and joined us as he poured each wine to explain in-depth the history, grape and body of each pour. Had his iPad on his hand to show us the sites of the vineyards. We’ve been to many tastings but this was certainly a notch-above our previous experiences.

Their cellar door is in a spectacularly beautiful building with views of Te Mata peak across the street. We also took dinner here and food was excellent, couldnt be better! Must visit!!

Almost a 5 star but dropped the ball at the end of our chefs menu lunch with matched wines. Absolutely stunning property, menu was great and food delicious, however attention to detail got left behind at the last course. While other guests were being offered seats outside to enjoy deserts and drinks, we got asked if we wanted our taxi ordered. When advised no we would like to stay and enjoy a wander around the property we were left waiting almost 20 minutes for our bill. At first we didn't think much of it, then it dragged on and on to the point our waitress had moved on to serving others.
Shame that the experience finished the way it did.

We stayed at the Rose cottage over the Easter weekend and had a top notch experience. From checking in on day one to checking out on the last day everything was spot on. The staff were so attentive, responsive, friendly and very professional. Nothing was overlooked. We had slight issue with the toaster in the cottage which was replaced in an instant. The complimentary breakfasts and bottle of wine were a very nice touch. If I was forced too, the only tiny suggestion would be for one/two other spreads to be available.
We also were booked for dinner in the restaurant and theres noit much to say about that as its got to one of the best in the country..... again the staff are well trained, professional and friendly with nothing left to chance. Will be back for sure....

My wife and I visited this place on our 20th anniversary day last month. We chose Craggy range shared menu for lunch and surprised because of the service and quality. When we asked about the single menu to staff, he explained well about it and was very nice. We didn't think we could have this kind of well coordinated course menu. All ingredients of cuisines were very harmonious and very natural. We enjoyed the meal and were very happy all day thanks to satisfaction for the meal. After lunch, we moved to winery to have wine tasting. Frankly, we didn't know much about wine. But staff was very kind and he explained us about wines. It was great time as well. Specially thanks to Jack H at restaurant and Oscar at winery who served us with kind and smile. The staffs and Craggy range gave us unforgettable day.

We had an exceptional dinner at the Craggy Range restaurant last night. My partner and I had the tasting menu and from the moment we walked in we felt very special and looked after. Our glasses never ran out and the food came out frequently. We cannot emphasise enough how good the food is! Interesting and delicious combinations and plenty of it. Sitting at the chefs table, we loved interacting with the kitchen and extra items that weren’t even on the menu came out as a special treat - including one of our favourites the paua, which was a great surprise. We paired with the premium wine tasting and for only an extra $20 would highly recommend. The first was Tattinger which in itself probably paid for the extra price tag. Our waiter looked after us excellently, with great knowledge of the wines that he was serving and a warm and charismatic touch. Nothing was ever too much - eg sensing we were full after the dessert he offered if we would like to share a dessert and they’ll make us some truffles to take away - absolutely just what we felt like. We will definitely be back next time we are in the Hawkes Bay.

We stopped here for lunch during a wine touring event. The wind are (of course) excellent and this rating is for the whole experience, not just the wine.
The food itself was well worth the stop. Five stars for the food quality. It had a dazzling array of flavors, tastes, colors and presentations. Certainly Michelin quality. No complaints about the food. I will say it’s odd (to me) but that they offer a la cart, 3 course, and 5 course meal options—- but the whole table has to pick the same option. For our group of five the only choice we could all agree on was a la cart.
Maybe there was a staffing issue, but the wait times were surprisingly long. This was a Tuesday 1p lunch. There were 4 tables of 4-6 people elsewhere in the restaurant. The kitchen is open viewing and there were 5 chefs working along with a wait staff of 3. No joke, the wait time between courses wa 30-40 min. Our meal took 2h for an entree and a main course. No apps or dessert. I don’t know if that’s what they’re going for, but on a day where we were touring wineries we had to cancel one stop because the f the delay.
Also, again oddly to me, our server disappeared for 20+min and another waiter had to take over our table. Again maybe something was going on… not sure.
I don’t think we’ll be back. Food was good tho.

Cannot fault this place, service was excellent and the food was to die for. We all had something different for lunch, and each dish was divine.
Beautiful setting, and the staff made us welcome and not rushed.
Thanks to the crew at Craggy Range, you made our day one to remember

We enjoyed an awesome afternoon dining in the Resturant a Craggy Range. Service from waiting and front of house staff was 6 star, friendly but not overbearing.
Food was phenomenal, we had eight courses and they were all excellent. We sat at the kitchen window bar to eat and were able to watch the kitchen staff go about their work; a well oiled machine and plenty of respect shown to all by all.
The restrooms were modern and very clean.

Amazing winery! Our server Laura was incredible. She had extensive knowledge about every wine, and paired vintages of the same style in different years so that we could taste the differences. She answered all our questions and taught us so much. Highly recommend the tasting and the cheese board. Thank you so much for the wonderful experience, Laura and Peter!

Exceptional service - very attentive yet with a nice dash of laidback Kiwi casualness. The food was incredible as were the wines. Cannot beat the location! Loved wandering through the vines to see the impressive kitchen garden afterwards.

We specifically booked this experience for the tasting menu. It’s a lovely five course experience. We’d had a tasting menu elsewhere the day before where each item was individually plated, and I think that spoiled us a little. We do like the performance and art of individual plating, but the presentation and food were both still beautiful at Craggy Range (some of the courses are all served on one plate and each person takes their portion). Dietary needs were accommodated and the wine pairings were thoughtfully explained. We had a table by a window and enjoyed the sweeping views. For a splash out of an evening–this is a lovely spot.

Beautiful location, awesome service, amazing food.
We ate at the craggy range restaurant for our 1st wedding anniversary and the staff were incredibly welcoming and attentive. The glass of bubbles before our meal and small gift at the end were a lovely touch to an already 5 star experience.
Thanks team 🩷

We enjoyed a tasting on the patio followed by the eight-course tasting menu dinner seated at the chef's table overlooking the kitchen. Service was excellent, food was delicious, wines were well paired, and watching the intricate dance that is meal-preparation in a fine-dining restaurant is immensely entertaining. One of our favorite courses was the bread served with Camembert butter with honey and salt. By the time the dessert arrived, we thought we would not be able to eat another bite, but we finished the beautiful soft meringue with rhubarb to the very bottom of the dish. A most enjoyable experience of food and wine.

Heard this place was one
Of the best spots in NZ and it truly delivered. We did the set menu, and given I’m dairy free set menus are a pain. Not here, they made each dish as special as the others with a DF twist - service was awesome - I can’t see why many people call this the best restaurant in NZ. Worth every penny.

Te Mata Peak, located 16km south of Havelock North, rises dramatically from the Heretaunga Plains and is part of a 1-sq-km park. The peak features hiking and biking trails, as well as breathtaking views from its summit lookout that stretch to Hawke's Bay, the Mahia Peninsula, and distant Mt Ruapehu on clear days. Visitors can access the peak by either driving or walking up a well-maintained track with clear directional guidance.
great view. this is not only for walking you can drive all the way up, plenty of car park at the top. we enjoy. there’s picnic tables on the way up stunning view as well.

Long 40 kph drive up to top but view was worth it. Public are not allowed up peak because there is a lodge up near peak and you have to get past electric gate. We were lucky as a taxi had to go and pick up a passenger and we were at the front and drove through when gate opened.

Best place to go to view the sunset, so unrealistic the view, the colors, the cloud. The road to drive up is a bit thin but apart from that definitely worth visiting

Always worth a visit to the top of Te Mata Peak. You can drive or long track walk (access closes 10pm every night) and exercise caution if heavy rain or cloud cover. Great views in all directions.

Beautiful prominent escarpment with fantastic views across the Heretaunga plain, TukiTuki valley to the ocean and ranges to the west. Lots of walking and biking trails. Best time to visit is sunrise and sunset. Finish off with a meal at Craggy Range if feeling flush.

Amazing Vistas, great place and must do if you visit Napier.
You can walk, run or drive to the peak.
If you want to drive check the map carefully to ensure you are en route to the top of the mountain car park. Apple Maps took us to Te Mata Park.
If you want to have a bit of a hike, there is a car Park at Te Mata Park, it took us just under 2 hours to walk up, but we were stopping to take photo’s in particular the small Redwood grove that you pass on the way up. It’s a moderate uphill walk most of the way. No real steep sections.
The view from the top, absolutely worth it no matter which way you get there.

Gorgeous view, accessible both by driving and walking. Personally prefer the walking track, the track is well maintained with clear directional guidance, lots of highlights/features along the way too!

If the place is busy is for a reason. Windy, very windy but what a view! Great option for the whole family. You can drive until the very top, but you can accept the challenge and do some of the tracks around and enjoying the sleeping giant.

A beautiful walk sunrise, midday or sunset. Warm oranges to rich green colours. Plenty of forest and bird, and views in all directions. Recommend parking at the end of Tauroa road, and walking the chambers walk and onto blue or red to the top (reasonable fitness required). Visit the giant redwoods on the way. There's toilets at the carpark and a filtered drinking fountain. Expect around 2+ hours return to the carpark if you are sight seeing.

I recently had the chance to visit the one and only Te Mata Peak. Truly one of New Zealand's hidden gems. The views on offer from the top are nothing short of breathtaking - as far as the eye can see, vast expanses of picturesque landscapes enveloped by the pristine sky.
While the roads leading to the top are quite narrow, the drive is worth every bit. Hiking up the peak is equally exhilarating, with well-maintained paths ensuring safety for all ages. Te Mata Park's intrusion into the wilderness feels minimal yet abundantly immersive.
Facilities like clean restrooms, ample parking, and informative signage round off the experience wonderfully. Moreover, the staff is polite, knowledgeable, and quite keen on maintaining the ecological balance of the area.
I highly recommend Te Mata Peak for both locals and tourists looking for an adventure with an unforgettable view. This place truly redefines natural beauty and teaches one to appreciate the artistic finesse of Mother Nature.
Do remember to stick around for the mesmerizing sunsets - they're the cherry on top! My experience at Te Mata Peak was truly remarkable, and it's already calling me back.

Lovely place. Just a short walk of 5 mins from the parking on the road. There is a bit of fall in your walk so please make sure to be careful. Great for swimming.

A beautiful majestic 2-step Falls with volumetric water flow even though in mid summer. The water is clean & clear. Many holiday makers or locals go for a dip & dive. It’s near Te Mata Peak in Hastings & just a short travel on sealed roads. The car parks (there are 2) are small; one on each end of the walkways to the Falls. It’s a popular spot so be aware of the traffic. This is the reason why I rate it a 4-star instead of a 5

Stunning. Great spot for swimming & jumping in. A rope swing there too, if you’re brave enough. Track down to the water requires good balance as one part is along an old concrete water pipe that Is slightly sloped.

There are 2 parking spots, choose the one by the toilet (check there is enough poo tickets before logging out) as it is a more user friendly path to the falls. A short 2 minute walk. Nice place for a swim.

Maraetotara Falls is an incredible natural wonder nestled in the heart of New Zealand's scenic landscapes. The majestic cascade of water offers a mesmerizing sight that is sure to leave visitors in awe.
One of the highlights of Maraetotara Falls is its inviting swimming spots. The crystal-clear pools below the falls provide the perfect setting for a refreshing dip on a hot summer day. The cool, rejuvenating waters offer a welcome respite from the heat, making it an ideal spot for relaxation and fun.
However, it's essential to exercise caution when visiting Maraetotara Falls. The rocks surrounding the pools can be slippery, especially when wet, so wearing proper attire and sturdy footwear is crucial to prevent accidents. Safety should always be a top priority when exploring this natural wonder.
Maraetotara Falls is best suited for adventurous souls seeking an immersive experience in nature. Whether you're hiking along the trail or taking a plunge into the inviting waters, this hidden gem offers a memorable adventure for those willing to explore off the beaten path.

Beautiful waterfall. The entrance shown in Google maps will (only) give you easy access to the top of the waterfall. You can stop at the entrance about 500m before that, to stroll along the stream to the bottom of the waterfall, and have a swim.
Aparna Liyanage — Google review
Beautiful spot on a hot day. People jumping off the cliff and swimming in the pool below. The actual falls are surrounded by bush but access to the area is via an easy 3 minute walk from a small carpark area.
Adore Collection — Google review
Awesome spot with a beautiful semi-manmade waterfall and a nice deep swimming hole below. There are a number of places to jump from rocks into the pool below and there's a rope swing too. The best place to park is at the middle carpark with the toilet and walk the short track to the bottom of the swimming hole. From there you can climb up to the left to get to the rock jumps and rope swing.

Trinity Hill Wines is located in the heart of the Gimblett Gravels wine region and offers a remarkable cellar door experience. The impressive five-meter-high ceilings and expansive lawn create an inviting atmosphere for wine tastings. Guests can enjoy outdoor games, umbrellas, and stunning views while savoring their wines. The winery's staff members are highly praised for providing exceptional service, making every visit special.
I have never had a bad experience here! Consistently friendly and informative staff who are so happy to help with any questions and nothing is too much to ask from them. Great quality wine and delicious food which is really value for money. Great ambiance at their cellar door, they really do put quality wines on show and know what they are talking about, but patient for amateur tasters like myself. Looking forward to visiting again!

If you're in the Hawkes Bay or just travelling through the Trinity Hill winery is a must visit.
We loved the hospitable and informative staff, the superb wine tasting options, delicious platters (we had the Terrine board, perfect for two, be fine for three).
The couches are super lush and comfortable if you're lucky enough to get them!
If you buy a bottle of wine the tasting becomes free - can't get a better deal than this!
Would definitely recommend as a winery worth checking out.

We had the best ever wine tasting experience with Chris Yesterday. His knowledge and passion about wine made the time with him a memorable. We tried many different wines and came away with a Love for Trinity wine It is a must stop when in the Napier Region.

My experience at Trinity Hill was nothing short of amazing!!! My mum and I came for a wine tasting as a joint Mother's Day and Birthday celebration and we were utterly blown away.
Firstly, this winery is bloody gorgeous, amazing music and seating outside & giant jenga to play in the sun! It is also very peaceful and spacious.
Secondly, both the platters and the wine were delicious. All supplied with local ingredients and nibbles and the wines were all lovely (highly recommend a tasting tray).
And finally, the service was INCREDIBLE. We first had a lovely young blonde serve us and take our order - with amazing skills and knowledge about the wine. Then an older woman with dark hair served us and we were blown away. Her kindness, her chat and her all around interest in us was lovely. We had an incredible chat and felt like really valued humans. She also took off a glass of wine as a birthday gift!
An experience i'd do all over again in a heart beat.

De la Terre Winery offers a warm welcome to wine lovers, with an interesting lineup of wines including vintage Methode Traditionnelle blanc de blancs, viognier, chardonnay, syrah, and tannat-based red. Winemaker Tony Pritchard may even show you his old-school method of hand-twisting bottles for less sediment movement. The winery's idyllic setting amidst creative sculptures and structures provides a retreat from urban reality.

We went to the ‘cafe’ yesterday and were weirdly greeted at the door by a young guy who opened it, popped his head out and told us we could not come in as they were busy. This was bang on lunch time… (12:30pm) and we were the only car in the car park? We were only after a coffee and wanted to enjoy it outside…
Even my 4 year old asked why can’t we stay here? I replied… the man told us they are too busy to which he responded ‘but it’s just us?’
Regardless if they had a large booking coming in, we were interested in the ambience of the place and it would have been nice to look around and been given the option of a cup of coffee, at the least- after all they are advertised as a CAFE and not a restaurant?!
Please train your staff on the importance of guest experience and front of house responsibilities.

This is an outstanding winery to visit. We spent a very enjoyable hour or so speaking with the winemaker who very generously and patiently described how he makes some outstanding wine. The passion and knowledge was clear to see and appreciated. The wines were amazing anyway but tasted that bit better with that little bit of knowledge. We didn't try the food but delicious aromas made us regret that as we left. You need to try the reserve Tannat, just one out of several interesting varietals that are sensational.

A beautiful country drive culminating in an idyllic setting with fine wine and food. Looking out over the rural landscape beyond Tony's creative and quirky sculptures and structures seems like a retreat from urban reality. The food menu (pizzas and platters) is smallish, delicious and satisfying. That the pizzas are wood-fired in front of you doesn't even warrant a mention. Of course the oven is made by Tony too. This is a hidden gem in Hawkes Bay.

What a great experience. We stumbled upon this winery and it is totally worth it, better than other wineries we visited in the area for the ambiance alone. Absolutely disgusting service! My family and I thought we would get a nice drink and maybe a pizza. However we were rudely turned away in front of all the other patrons. Basically we were shunned away. Horrible experience. I would not recommend this place to anyone! Local to the area got home and called up and were told we could have a booking in40minutes. Small local businesses should not complain about needing support if they don't want to serve people. The children were so embarrassed that they couldn't even have an apple juice. So we then had to explain to them why.

I was really looking forward to visit this winery but could not help myself to walk away disappointed after experiencing the owner/winemakers attitude. Knows his stuff when it comes to making wine and could not fault the wine but the owner really had a bad attitude when we left. Wine samples are one sip and your done. Not worth it for $15 per tasting. Owner also charged us for an extra tasting and when I pointed it out in a polite way, he had a snotty answer and still charged us extra.

The owners attitude is non welcoming and maners are non existent .Wine tasking cost $15 for extremely small samples and the pizzas were tasty but very small and not worth the money. I will definitely not be coming back. This is my first ever review , but I felt I needed to do so.

GodsOwn Brewery is a picturesque rural destination located just 30 minutes from Napier or 20 minutes from Hastings. It offers superbly crafted beers and congenial surroundings, making it a unique experience in the Hawkes Bay countryside. The brewery also offers a Craft Beer tour over weekends for visitors to enjoy. While the staff are friendly and accommodating, there are limited options for vegans at GodsOwn Brewery, so bringing your own food is recommended if you plan on drinking there.
We have visited a few times over the years and have always had a good time. This weekend we decided to have our 3 year old's birthday party here. Such a great spot with a large play area for kids and adults alike. We ordered one of each pizza on the menu and they were so tasty! What a fantastic little spot - sitting amongst hops, sampling all the beers and trying out a few wood fired pizzas, was a great way to spend a lazy Saturday afternoon. Great brewery! I highly recommend spending an entire afternoon here. The beer was amazing. Good place for kids. A little pricey for food and for tasting tray was kind of average-expensive as well.
