1500 Year Old Olive Tree

Mentioned on
Historical landmark
Nature & Parks
The 1500 Year Old Olive Tree is a renowned historical landmark that has been featured on a national stamp. It is located in an unassuming place and receives little recognition despite its remarkable age and ability to still produce fruit. Visitors can appreciate the tree's significant history for free with ample space for picnics.
Amazing just to be near something that has lived for over 1500 years. Some road construction work right next to it now (as of August 3. 2023).

I was expecting a small, hard-to-find tree, but it turned out to be a massive tree with its own designated area. I highly recommend checking it out, as it has stood the test of time through many empires. :)

It's a 1500 year old olive tree, that has featured on a national stamp, and is in a random location with little fanfare celebrating it! As you can see in the pictures it is huge, and still producing fruit. Well worth a visit for a FREE piece of genuine history if you happen to be in the area. You'll probably be the only ones there and it is open, with space for a picnic if you really want to admire it for a while. Highly recommended, though obviously don't expect much more than a beautiful old tree. 🌲

This magnificent olive tree is a must see object. 1500y.o. Still producing olives. Imagine if olive tree could speak...
Maksims Svežencevs — Google review
If you are holidaying in kastel Croitia this worth while a visit. Parking easy on street. Free admission, history is shown in English along side local language. I tried purchasing the olive oil with its iconic bottle of 1500 year tree label on it but I could not establish where it was sold, made a few inquiries but was unsuccessful. So if anyone can help with this, it would be much appreciated. The tree itself was stunning & for it to be still bearing fruit is astounding...there is also a little shrine to Our Lady at the entrance to the tree...not sure of the relevance but I suspect its something to do with the unusual fact of it is still producing and has probably been in this spot long before local Croitian inhabitants.. I left hoping and praying that it stands living & providing joy & sustenance to everyone it meets..🙏🙏💕💕🌻🌲

Beautiful veteran tree. Set in a nice grassy area. Unfortunately there were roadworks in the adjacent street that meant you could only access the tree by jumping over a ditch and ducking under barriers. No access left for visitors. However, I did access the tree and it was amazing.

1500 years olive tree!!! Just awesome! And they are making olive oil out of it!

We had a fabulous time at Winery Bedalov - great atmosphere, really cool setting with barrel shaped chairs and lovely authentic tablewear. Accommodated our family very well - had my 2 children (3 year old and 3 month old) and they enjoyed it too! Wines were perfect and we were able to mix and match the options within our group. The food which we opted for vegetarian was really delicious too and we can’t wait to make the wine cocktail they served us! A great afternoon overall!

We had the most wonderful afternoon here. It was my Hen and there were 12 of us. The girls where lovely and incredibly knowledgeable. This is a 4th generation family business and all of the family are involved. We tried 3 wines all with gorgeous paired food. The wines were explained, where they are from, the taste etc. . I wish we had gone for the 6 wines. We stayed a while and had some more of the beautiful wines. Please go and visit this wonderful place. 🫶🏼

Great experience of tasting the wines of the local Bedalov family. Staff was very nice and explaining the wines with lots of enthousiasm. Fingerfood was excellent in combination with the wines. View over the sea is amazing. Definately recommended when you're in the area of Kastela.

We are really happy that we went to visit Winery Bedalov. Good and unique local wine paired perfectly with delicious local food. Perfect happening for our vacation, and exactly what we were looking for. We tried six wines ("All in Bedalov") and wish we had more time to try even more of their wines. Great and knowledgeable hosts. We had a great time - highly recommended.

My husband and I had a fantastic afternoon trying three delicious wines with the lovely and knowledgeable Antea. We were made to feel very welcome and had a beautiful view looking out across the sea. We had little tapas-style food to accompany the wines which were all very good and catered for dietary requirements. Thoroughly recommend.

What an amazing experience ! Wonderful place in front of the sea, perfect to taste wine and enjoy some finger foods. The staff is really kind and they love what they propose you. If your are in Split and you want to taste some local wine, Bedalov is for sure the best place to go !

Had a wonderful visit at Winery Bedalov. Antea was a very welcoming & knowledgeable host. She was extremely helpful before my visit, responding to my email inquiries, and during my visit, in talking about the wines I might enjoy based on my preferences. The winery is located in a very nice neighborhood on the sea, where you can enjoy the wines with beautiful views, and later walk around the neighborhood, or even take a swim in the sea at the beach very close by. I highly recommend a visit.

My wife and I went for a tasting and had the most amazing experience. First the wine was delicious (we went home with two bottles) and the food paired perfectly with each glass. The view of the ocean made it that much better. Antea guided us through each glass and was so knowledgeable. She answered our questions and gave us interesting stories about her family’s winery and Croatian wines. We absolutely recommend taking a little drive out to enjoy some great wine and a fantastic experience!

Absolutely fabulous, the view was amazing and so was the wine. Learnt a lot about the different wines in the region and the history behind it. Would highly recommend!
Jacinta Cable — Google review
Could not have asked for a better experience. We were given thorough explanations of the history and fermentation process of each wine, as well as recommendations of what to do during our stay in Split. The location is beautiful, right on the Adriatic with a covered porch that provides an amazing view.

Kaštilac

Historical landmark
Sights & Landmarks
Kaštilac is an often overlooked attraction with a medieval atmosphere and modern touches, offering a cozy atmosphere without the crowds of larger tourist cities. Some notable features include the VP winery for wine enthusiasts and a resemblance to the port of Braavos from Game of Thrones. Though visitors should note that all buildings are privately owned, it still offers an inspiring experience for those who want to take photos and appreciate its historical significance.
There's a beach next to it, nice to swim, clean and with showers. Didn't go inside the kaštel.

Beautiful place. I came to visit because of the Game of Thrones Braavos scene, but it's worth the visit even for non GoT fans. The place can be seen in 20 minutes. We visited on a summer day at 3 PM and the place was almost completely deserted. It had a nice strange atmosphere.
Alfonso Palacios — Google review
Not that big or special but pretty nice and a bit interesting. Recommend Game of Thrones fans going here. If going here I would recommend bringing swimwear since the beach was pretty close. It was very close to the bus stop so it was easy to get here from Split.

Very nice old castle city, but... it needs restoration on all parts.
Marcel Harlaar — Google review
The port of Braavos in G.O.T. ! Just park at the port and walk through the beach to arrive here, it's free and inspiring.
Alex — Google review
The castle has an interesting history but is relatively small and the buildings are all private. We only spent about 10 minutes there in total. Worth taking a peak if you're already in the area.
Travel Sketch — Google review
Seems old and no Maintenance and not for tourist, no ticket needed as well.
Bjorn J — Google review
We enjoyed all of the Kastela Coast. Very interesting historical harbours, castels and villages. Many have been retained as historic monuments.
Zeglar “Zeg” Fergus — Google review
Stumbled upon it by chance. A very nice surprise, it seems that people are living there, so be respectful.
Valts Čibals — Google review
A must see for a GoT fan since it was used to represent Braavos. Well preserved, little, charming castle with a homely atmosphere. You can also rent aparatments there.
Marcin Ociepa — Google review
Nice little island castle. Can be seen in around 10-20 minutes. Lot's of people will recognize this as the place where alot of Braavos was shot but it also has it's own interesting history.
Noud Frenken — Google review
Neat little area that isn't mentioned in a lot of tour information but it's got a bit of that medieval feel while being a bit more modern. Not crowded like Split or Dubrovnik. If you like wine, find the VP winery and get a couple bottles, you won't regret it.
Bernard Dy — Google review
Very cosy place. But there is no place to chill or smth. All buildings are private. So here you can only look and take some photos on place of Arya's)

Small open-air botanical garden. Admission is free, there are practically no visitors even in August. You can look at several installations on biblical themes, tall cypresses, different types of grapes with descriptions. Parking is free as well

Quiet, nice place, ideal to go with kids in nature, a picnic or just a walk!. Park with a variety of plants and a source of drinking water. Just to relax after a long week of 😇
Andrija Livajić — Google review
Hard to reach, but a lovely green paradise if you go a little further away from the coast. It has all the plants mentioned in the Bible, it's exciting to see them all in one place, it's an intimate place.
Dr. Balázs Hohmann — Google review
Nice place for a picnic, marvelous view of Split and Kaštela. It's on the hiking trail to Prevoj Malačka, therefore good resting stop. Park has a drinking water which you can pump through water pump. There's a replica, in very small size, of Noah's ark which is fun for kids, gigantic apple, a wooden cross, and olive tree blessed by Pope. One thing that is terribly missing is a public washroom.
