Located in the town of Capaccio Vecchia, also known as Capaccio, the Castello di Capaccio Vecchia has a rich history dating back to the Middle Ages. Originally established to protect against Saracen attacks, it was destroyed by Frederick II and later rebuilt under the Kingdom of Naples. Despite its ruined state, the castle offers a beautiful view and is considered a place of historical and naturalistic interest.

Museums
The Archaeological Park of Paestum is a complex of ancient temples dedicated to Hera, Athena, and Neptune, alongside an amphitheater and a museum. Located in the Cilento region of Italy, this park showcases well-preserved Greek ruins dating back to the sixth century BC. It offers visitors a glimpse into the rich history and cultural legacy of Magna Grecia, the Greek Empire that once thrived in southern Italy before Roman conquest.
Amazing!! Definitely worth the drive down to see some of the most well preserved ancient greek ruins. The highlight is the three temples but there are also other ruins and a small museum. Tickets were €12 per person which we bought there. There is also parking nearby which is convenient and a fair few restaurants to stop at before or after. Overall a great place to visit!

Love this place lot's of ancient things to see went today on a guided tour with group and we all enjoyed it. They got lots of Greek ancient artifacts which I think is well preserved . Just make sure you put some sunscreen before going as it's an open area. Take your cap and sunglasses as well. We also visited the museum nearby and overall it was an amazing travel. It's one of the most amazing sites for me for my trip. Try visiting them and hope you'll like it as well.

Breath taking views on temples of Neptune Hera and Athena . Ticket is for temple area and also fo museum on opposite side. No chance to buy any water on site so remember to bring one in hot days. You will need few hours to see everything.

Paestum is one of the best places in Italy to see Greek ruins and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It has three spectacular Greek temples, two Hera Temples close to each other, one has massive colonnades, quite astounding. The third Athena Temple is further away. The original sea wall and guard towers from the Greek colony are pre-Roman and still standing. The extensive area which is open to the public includes civic buildings, the Roman forum and amphitheatre, paved roadways and ruins of residential buildings. Pathways are kept clear, but tall grass and flowers drown many of the low walls and tumbled masonry. Well worth the visit if in the area. Toilets on site. It's a short walk from the train station.
Paul B — Google review
A trio of some of best preserved Greek temples (pre-Roman) in the world. Is it worth visiting? A resounding yes. Best way to get there is by train from Naples (fastest train is about 1h each way). Train station is an easy walk from the ruins. The museum is also interesting , a magnificent collection of funerary frescoes that are worth seeing.
Chris C — Google review
Worth visiting, the site is beautiful. We went mid June around lunch time, it was hot but luckily not that busy, there is no shade so plenty sunscreen and a hat will help. We got tickets at the door, seems like on their website there are discounted tickets, but they said it must be wrong, the cost is more. Maybe there is a different price for tourists, who knows. Although the architecture was humbling, the grass could have been kept neater. Overall definitely worth the visiting together with the museum at the end.

Been wanting to visit here for years. So worth the wait. No crowds, cheap admission and jaw dropping temples!! Must see despite it being 2 hours from the Amalfi coast!

The Archaeological Park of Paestum, also known as Poseidonia, is an unbelievably well-preserved historical landmark. Including 3 of the most well-known Doric temples in the world and several archaeological sites of great interest, the park is an open-air museum. Visiting is a must, especially if you're under 25: the entry will only set you back of 3 euros!
Matteo Gambino — Google review
It was a very rainy day, so we didn't have quite the experience we were looking for as we rushed through the park because it was so wet. That being said, we had the park to ourselves, and it is a magnificent experience. The ruins are amazing, and I would highly recommend seeing this. Also, the museum is wonderful and very informative.
Cheri Southwick — Google review
Very well kept and interesting archeological site with ancient Greek temples and "newer" Roman republican ruins. There are 3 well preserved Doric temples and the less ancient Roman city ruins. The park is very large and there is a Museum worth seeing for artifacts, frescoes and the famous "diver" fresco. It is only a 10 minutes walk from the Paestum railroad station. The Regional train departs from Napoli almost every hour and it takes about 75 minutes from Salerno just 35 minutes.

This is one of the wonders of Italy! Three magnificent temples still standing and the outlines of the city. The original sea wall and guard towers from the Greek colony are pre-Roman and still standing. A must visit place.

Paestum is beautiful, our first time there. Difficult to get to if you don’t have a car. The Greek ruins are 600BC and a must see if you go there.
Paul Austin — Google review
Much better and bigger than I expected. Definitely not to miss when you’re in the area. Need at least 1 hour but 2-3 hour’s minimum is best. Really interesting not just for the massive main structures but also the history of the totally ruined areas like arenas and amphitheatre. Also the museum is very good. I recommend buying the small guide book. in Nov 2023 it was only 6 Euro.

Where Greece ends the Roman empire begins. - Paestum is the ancient city where it happens. It takes your breath away when you first set your eyes on it - it gets better from there. No need to book in advance. Train from Central station in Napoli takes just over an hour. Great walk among ancient ruins. Good local restaurants around. Toilet facilities are in order and available. App guide is available and it works great taking you around the perimeter. Just go. Don't think. Just go.
Blaž Alič — Google review
A grand archeological swath of history to saunter and roam about. Visually stunning Greek temples with remnants of a thriving community dating back to the 500s BC. The museum across the street (which is included in your ticket price) is also a necessary component to see the historic evolution of the Greco Roman site. On a good day, give it a good three hours between the two. If you can make it back at night, the lit structures will excite your senses.
Jim Migliorini — Google review
We drove all the way from Bari just to visit this amazing archaeological site ! For the price of just 16€ you get access on the enormous site of poseidonia and the museum witch is located nearby . Truly a once in a lifetime experience .

An amazing site. Entry was expensive at 16 euros but we were able to see all we needed to walking along the road next to the site without going in. I was here 40 years ago when there was one little kiosk at it was all just in a field. Now very busy even in October. There was easy parking right at the site for 3 euro.

The Temple of Athena is an ancient archaeological site dating back to 500 BCE that still stands today, offering visitors a glimpse into Italy's rich history. Located in Paestum, the area is popular for walks and natural scenery, with beaches and other temples also nearby. Good to visit if you are in the neighborhood, takes about an hour and a half including the museum if you pass all the sites. Don’t go in midday as there is almost no to none shade around the walking paths. The temples are nice to see, however the rest of the ruins not very special. 1 or 2 mozaïks that you can see and the rest just stones

The temples and compound here are as impressive as the Acropolis and Parthenon in Athens. Huge grounds and amazing ruins. Would take 3-4 hours to see all the ruins and that's not including the museum next door. Well preserved and accessible, you can actually walk through the houses, shops, temples, etc. Great experience.
Justin Rakes — Google review
Among the three temples in Paestum, the temple of Athena stands out as the only one whose attribution to the goddess is confirmed. This site preserves the remnants of ancient metopes and triglyphs, which unfortunately no longer exist. Notably, an intriguing sacrificial altar can also be found here. I wholeheartedly recommend visiting this captivating location.

To the east of the Italic Temple is a small Anfiteatro or Roman Amphiteater. Central element of Roman Paestum, the amphitheater was built around 50 BC to towards the end of the 1st century AD. An external ring has been added to increase its capacity. Only the southern half of theater is still visible. In 1930, Highway 18 was built across the site, burying the northern half. The road was designed to pass by the ruins in order to provide the experience of seeing the ruins up close, but without thinking about what was still hidden. It is said by local inhabitants that the civil engineer responsible was tried, convicted and received a prison sentence for what was described as wanton destruction of a historic site.

🏛In my opinion a little bit too expensive. The price is the same as the one in Pompei with the difference that Pomepi is 4 times bigger and it takes more to visit and much more details to look at. However the site is of an inestimable importance and its absolultly worth it to visit. 📍The valley of Paestum is special to me for a mix of reasons ( the morphology- food - weather - history- traditions) The If you like sunsets and history you can here combine that if you visit it on a sunny and clear day. 🌅

The receptionist is rude and impertinent. He told me if I lived on earth or on the moon just because I asked the rates for one night to sleep at the Sanctuary with my family. It is very surprising the reaction of a Sanctuary that supposedly welcomes in a hospitable and non-profit way. The prices they charge are by the way normal hotel prices.
Monica Moreno Botero — Google review
Contrary to what you say, the receptionist who spoke badly was not a lady but a gentleman who spoke good Spanish, and he's still there as I had him on the phone this afternoon. His tone was humiliating, contemptuous and impertinent, and far from the hospitality you preach, testimony to much greed. Your justification is not only misleading, but also hypocritical and therefore unacceptable. I wanted to point this out to you in order to set the record straight. It's a pity that such a supposedly religious and spiritual institution should take the liberty of mistreating people.

Al Gelso D'Oro da Nonna Sceppa is a retro restaurant with a porch and garden that serves Mediterranean cuisine and seafood. It has gained a reputation for its superbly prepared and robust dishes, which are firmly seasonal. Located in Campania, this family-friendly restaurant offers an amazing dining experience. The lobster linguine and semifreddo Niccola are highly recommended dishes.
The place is very big but the atmosphere is so familar. It’s really like you’re enjoying the food at home. The staff is great and very helpful. The food is honest and genuine!

It's a good restaurant, but better suite for large groups or parties than for a romantic couple evening. Food was good but not excellent. Startes were great, but pasta was uncooked (far beyond "al dente", which I usually enjoy) and fish was less tasty than expected. Unlike other places close by waiters were a bit cold with outsiders and the overall experience, while still enjoyable, didn't live up to our expectations.
Roberto Chiaveri — Google review
My wife and I found this place on our way back from a fantastic visit to Paestum. From the road it looks like a house but don't let that fool you cause the food here is amazing. We had the lobster linguine and the semifreddo Niccola. One of the best meals I have had in Campania. The waiter also understood my poor attempt at speaking Italian. Don't waste your money on touristy spots near the Paestum ruins drive 6 minutes away to a better meal.

Seems to be popular with locals, we arrived just after opening at 7:30pm and were asked if we had reservation, we were seated with some hesitation given the huge outdoor area was pretty empty. The food was very good & waiters friendly. Price reasonable.

This is one of the best places in Paestum. We tried different restaurants, but we're coming back to this one. The food is perfectly tasty and fresh. The service is also on a high level. Mainly, local people are going there with pre-booking. The restaurant is full at working day at the end of the season.

It is a traditional Italian restaurant with a rich variety of dishes. I went there for lunch two days in a row. POSiTIVES: The restaurant has an open-air terrace. I was lucky as the weather was great to have lunch outside. To my observation, the restaurant is highly popular by locals. So far, I had a lovely soup with beans, mushroom and chesnuts; linguini with lobster; and shrimps with cabbage. I loved the soup. It was creamy, well cooked and unique. The lobster linguini was fresh. NEGATIVES: However the linguini didn't seem to me that it was made by the cooks. The English menu is different than the Italian one and certain dishes are missing and certain ones are slightly more expensive. The translation of certain dishes lack of the real description of the dish. The fried chicken leg was overly salted.

La Bottega del Gusto is a great restaurant in Paestum with delicious local produce. It can be a little expensive for some items on the menu, but the food generally is good quality. The platter was especially delicious with smoked mozzarella and Parma ham slices. Perfect place for lunch after walking around Paestum.
We enjoyed a very tasty lunch here right outside the temple complex for reasonable prices. I’d recommend the platter of buffalo cheeses and the ravioli. The cheeses were an amazing tasting variety with probably 8 different kinds of local buffalo cheeses. The buffalo ricotta was one of the best cheeses I’ve ever had and I’ll certainly miss it. The ravioli were also delicious. Fresh, simple, and comforting. Don’t be discouraged by the proximity to the temples; the food here is very fresh and delicious.

Amazing experience! Their homemade mozzarella bufala was THE BEST mozzarella we have ever tasted, together with the yogurt ice cream from buffala it was the ultimate traditional south Italian lunch. Where to start… the service was rude, and when asking for tap water, she acted like she had no idea what we were talking about yet every other local received tap water without question. The food was bland, with no seasoning and the bread served in the bag had MOLD on every piece. When telling the waitress, she acted like it was nothing and just took it away. She was rude the whole time and gave little to no service. This place is overpriced for subpar food. Go elsewhere and save your money.

Great spot for an afternoon glass or bottle of wine. Outdoor seating with a playground nearby—pretty perfect spot for families with kids! We first had san Salvatore wine at the Oleandri resort in Paestum—a little pricey but worth it. Inside there’s also a little store with all their wines, oils, jams, dolce etc. I deducted one start because they don’t do wine flights. To try their wines you need to buy a whole glass. It seems like it could be just as money efficient for them to offer flights/samplers.

We came in the evening to enjoy the desserts. At first, there was some confusion about payment for the desserts in advance, but while we were waiting in the queue for payment, our waiter approached us and advised he would sort everything out, we appreciated his help! We have ordered 6 desserts for 6 people, everyone liked his/ her choice. The staff was very attentive, they approached us asking if everything is ok etc. The place is huge and very attractive, not only you may enjoy a tasty dessert here, but also make a couple of lovely pictures :)

Okay so the scenery here is beautiful, looks like a really nice big garden where you can taste very tasty mozzarella. However...the service was hard to find. There was plenty of staff on the floor and only a few tables occupied....yet the staff preferred to have there own chats than to actually take care of their guests. Our food came way before our drinks. We had to ask again for water because we were really parched and when we were halfway through our first meal the wine finally arrived. It took another 15 minutes for them to take away the empty plates and when they didnt come to us to take our order for our maincourse in another 15 minutes we decided to leave. Would be a great place if they step up their service game.

The Caseificio Barlotti is a wonderful place to visit if you're interested in dairy products. You'll be able to see the buffalos at the dairy farm, and you can also purchase and sample their products. The ice cream here is especially delicious, and I highly recommend it!
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and lunch. The restaurant is very attractive and modern, with many local people as well as tourists. Of course the buffalo mozzarella and grilled veggies were delicious, but the big draw here are the water buffalo steaks and burgers. That’s what all the locals eat. My husband loved his. We also enjoyed seeing all the water buffalos on what is, obviously, a working farm. Great place to stop after a morning visit to Paestrum.

It was such a good choice to come here. If you are thinking about it, don't hesitate. Some say the prices are high. The best mozarella di bufala! It's so fresh and you can see the buffalo in their farm too. We tried different dishes and also took home some of their products and loved everything (buffalo butter is so milky), we forgot to ask if they also sell milk because the cappuccino with buffalo milk is really good. Pretty garden setting. It's a convenient lunch place after visiting Paestum archeological park.

OMG! This was our best experience in southern Italy so far. The food is amazing. Buffalo mozzarella was literally melting in my mouth 🤤 definitely will come back! The staff was very friendly and super helpful with any little question.

Restaurant
Oasi Ristorante is an elegant Italian dining spot with a charming and romantic atmosphere, offering garden seating with stunning views of the Paestum temples. The staff is attentive and accommodating, catering to both English and German-speaking guests. The menu features delectable dishes such as pizza, spaghetti vongole, fillet of beef, seafood risotto, gnocchi, homemade ravioli, and Caprese salad. Guests praise the restaurant for its gluten-free options and high-quality ingredients.
Staff was very friendly and some also spoke German. The food was so good for its price that we decided to go again the day after. On Saturdays the guests wear a bit more noble things,so be aware of that of you don't want to stick out. The prices are cheap for a German. All in all I loved the experience and I do recommend going here.

This restaurant is gorgeous, feels like you’re eating in a fairytale. The staff were so lovely and attentive. The pizza was the best I’ve had in Italy, and they had the best gluten free pizza my boyfriend has had in Italy. They are well aware of gluten free restrictions and they also spoke English if you can’t speak much Italian. Definitely one of the best places to eat in Paestum. It’s a must visit.

Nice stop for lunch. Delicious Caprese salad was enough to share, as was the gnocchi and homemade ravioli.

Food is nice. Half of the items on the menu seemed to be unavailable. Prices were OK.

Excellent spaghetti vongole, very tasty fillet of beef, exceptional seafood risotto, very good ingredients topped up w a finely balanced fiano white wine glass, very attentive waiters, food is worth every penny! No fuss, straight quality from Cilento. We will be back.

Ambience is nice, food is good but service is appalling... I had to ask for the menu twice, they made a mistake when delivering the beverages and the bill took ages to be delivered...

Given they are basically in the temples area, I expected the worst. It was instead a nice surprise. More than decent pizza, good wine and very helpful and friendly service. Go there if you visit the park.
