Superb museum if you are interested in WW2 history. Not very crowded and very exciting.

Wery interesting WW2 history, and so many original pieces from the war on display.

Historcal place worth visiting, only 3 Eur admission (2023). Small uphill walk from the center of Platanias, that keep you warm :) But only 400 meters, so no worries, it is worth both the stable temperatures inside the cave and the view from the church above.
Ronni Søby — Google review
Brilliant !!! A must see for war enthusiasts. Underground tunnels dug by the locals during WW2 . Steeped in history . Genuine war rifles and guns on display . Enjoyed it .

A lot of interesting items and photos to see, wonderful museum for any WWII/history lover! Very affordable price and friendly staff. Inside the museum there is also a TV showing English documentary and the sound is played on speakers around the museum.

Very nice little museum hidden away in upper Platanias. Only small entrance fee. Definitely worth a visit

Great value place to visit. Really enjoyed looking at the artefacts and photographs, as well as the footage and narration. Fantastic little place to visit. Staff very helpful also. No need to book in advance.

We visited twice whilst staying in Agia Marina, firstly on an evening trip on the little fun train which was €12 each. If we had known this place was so close to us we wouldn't have bothered with the train. The trip only allowed 20 mins to look around which was not enough time. Hence the second visit, where we walked up the hill. You can get a taxi which I think will cost €8 from Agia Marina side, Atlas Supermarket if your not used to hills and of course the temperature is a factor in August. It opens 10am-12 and 5pm-7pm, closed Sundays and run by volunteers. It cost us €3 each entry charge. It's really interesting, with lots of photos and memorabilia from the time and an absolutely stunning view from the church above. I would definitely recommend a visit.

Some interesting history about the German occupation of Crete in WW2. It’s small and doesn’t take a long time to walk through but worth a visit if you‘re in the area.
Christian R. — Google review
A historic place from WWII. The guy working was really eager to share so much knowledge - such a great guy. My son is very much into history about WWII, but was amazed about the knowledge the guy had. It is not very big and it is free. It is possible to donate to the volunteer workers and please do, they are doing a great job in keeping history. A steep walk up the hill but the view is worth it.

Former shelter built by the Germans during WWI now serves as a small museum to remind the events of the Battle of Crete. About 200 m of underground corridors now run by local volunteers

Porto Platanias Beach Resort & Spa

Mentioned on
Hotel
The Porto Platanias Beach Resort & Spa is an elegant property that provides luxurious accommodations, a spa, and six pools for its guests. Complimentary Wi-Fi access and breakfast are also available. The hotel boasts beautiful swimming pools and a stunning beach. However, the food selection lacks flavor despite offering various options. One guest complained about being charged the same rate for three rooms, yet one room did not include a kitchenette or an extra bathroom as advertised.
We had the best week last week at Porto Platanias Beach Resort. Our two girls, 4 and 7 had such a great time at the mini club, it was a sanctuary for our red haired girl who often needed a break from the sun. The animation team were so trustworthy and provided so much fun for the girls all week! Top marks to them! The location of the hotel couldn’t be better and the food was great and varied. Great service, the rooms were cleaned every day and we were always met with a smile by all members of the staff. We will come again! We have been home for two days and our girls are already asking when we’re going back 👌😊😍!
Janni Nielsen — Google review
Very nice hotel, it is clean and the rooms are big and well maintained. The staff is very nice and friendly. Many beautiful swimming pools and gorgeous beach. The disadvantages are that the food is mild. There are many kinds, yet they are mostly tastes dull and not spicy. Another dissatisfaction is due to the fact that we've ordered 3 rooms for 3 families and paid the same, yet 1 of the family's got a no kitchenette 1 bathroom instead two. we've reasonably asked them to change it and move the friends nearer they wouldn't done it saying they were fully booked.
Boaz Katoa — Google review
Surely you can't have high standards if you are staying here. The food far from tasteful, the service was mediocre. When I would aske them for certain information wouldn't be given with friendliness rather with a angry attitude. I highly recommend not checking in this hotel and look for other options
????????? ??????? — Google review
Great rooms. Well working ac. Lots of effort in the cleaning of the rooms each day. Breakfast is great but a bit crowded. They've a good process though so we enjoy the meal. All the staff are serviceminded, from the receptionist to the cleaner and lifeguards at the pool. I wish they would be tougher on guest who claims beds at the pool with a towel and then disapears for hours, but that is a thin line to balance on. They are doing their very best I guess.
Andreas Skoglund — Google review
poor cleanliness, dirty toilets and bathtubs, the stuff did not change our bedsheets for 5 days. The food at the buffet was mediocre, and we had to pay for a bottle of water.
eleftheria — Google review
Really nice hotel with nice people who work there. But my experience was not so nice. I got the worst "view" ever in my life. There are 5 or 6 rooms with this view. My room number was 1320 and recomend to anyone to avoid it. Close to this side of the hotel is a building where are staying some teenagers (internationals, some were danish and finish) who probably live there for longer time. They like to scream and party on the night. You will not get the relaxation and sleep you wanted. In one night the police was called to take action.
Gabriel Calbau — Google review
Very clean, ood beds, very friendly staff, at last the majority of them, and all working in restaurants, cleaning and so on very friendly. The fact that many rooms are under ground level is not mentioned any where, we først received one of those rooms, and request a better room. Next day we were givende the oppertunity to chose between two rooms. Do they did in deed try to satisfy us.
Toril Madsen — Google review
Very bad hotel. They charge you for everything even when you booked an all inclusive stay in a suite. It's not all inclusive at all!! Service is very bad only when you pay you get good service. The food is very bad and cold. They serve the leftovers at lunch and dinner. It's a 3 *** hotel. I'm very happy to leave and stay in another hotel. I can't wait...
Dalia Dawwi — Google review
Nice hotel by the sea and the main road with many pools. Own pool area for adults. Very friendly staff. Big buffet breakfast. We liked. 👍🏻😊
Paula Heinonen — Google review
Unfortunately, the hotel left us alone, there is no contact with the hotel, I just wanted a baby to sleep with us in our apartment, my small child was supposed to come to the room, they didn't want to do it, my family of 7 people was left without accommodation. I do not recommend it, it is definitely not a hotel for families, I wanted help, The hotel has families with children somewhere. If you're looking for help, you won't find it

We stayed a week at Porto Platanias Beach Resort & Spa. We loved the hotel, very clean rooms, great selection of food. The location is ideal especially for families with kids. The beach is good with shallow water for smaller kids. We were very pleased with everything and would return again.

Honestly such a good hotel, I was so surprised to enter and see the view from the balcony. The rooms are so welcoming here and I would recommend this hotel to literally anyone and everyone. Your room is cleaned in the morning and excellently so. The location is so perfect, just by walking out of the main entrance you gain access to various different shops and by exiting through the back you have the beach literally steps away.
magigorl — Google review
I wouldn't say 5 stars, but 4,5. Very nice hotel. There are 5 swimming pools, so finding a sun bed is not a big issue. Fabulous food choice, every day something different. Couple of bars, but for all inclusive options, just one. Nice beach just beside the hotel. Sun beds there are 10eur per day, which is a lot I think. In check out day, we received all-inclusive coupon valid until 19.00, which was very nice. All in all, it was a fantastic experience which I would like to repaet in future.
A P — Google review
Really nice hotel with lovely rooms and good restaurants all central in the town. The staff was always very helpful only one big downside…... The sunbeds or should I say the lack of them. Even though the hotel has a rule of no reservation with towels is allowed EVERY bed is "booked" at 0630. When you are a family of 3 that comes to Crete to enjoy the pool/sun it is a big drawback that they're aren't enough beds for everyone and many of the beds are reserved but not used until later on the day. (Even the beds by the ocean was all taken) If you, as a hotel, have the rule you should enforce it by having hotel staff clear “empty”beds every hour or use another way of cleaning the wasted booked sunbeds. Alternatively just remove all the signs saying the it is not allowed to pre-book with your towel.
Christian Meyer — Google review
Beautiful hotel. Right on the beach. Nice clean rooms, good pools (there are several) and the view out towards the sea is amazing. Breakfast is very good with well cooked bacon and eggs etc and plenty of fresh fruit. Dinner is a whole other story - we had booked half board but had to cancel it as it wasn’t edible. There are lots of little restaurants in the local area which offer way better quality food at the same cost as the hotel buffet dinner. We will come back to this place - something we don’t normally do - it’s that nice. But we won’t book the dinner next time!
Linnea Masson — Google review
We stayed for 1 week at Porto platanias luxury selection! Very nice, modern rooms! Nice pool, very good breakfast! The beach is not my favourite but its ok! Crete has much better beaches!
ΙΩΑΝΝΑ ΤΣΑΧΟΥΡΙΔΟΥ — Google review
It was supposed to be a five-star hotel ... but it's probably only on paper, because reality is far from this standard. A room so simple that it couldn't be more. The walls are empty, with only one picture hidden in a gap. Cleanliness below criticism, at least 2 weeks of dust lying on every surface. The staff used the same water for several apartments to wash the floor. The sheets were changed once for the whole week, the beds made so sloppy that we had to redo it every night as the sheets were quite loose. However, a big plus for cleanliness and nice appearance on the outside, well-kept plants and often cleaned pavements. Food ok, especially a big plus for the confectioner, delicious products. Nice and helpful staff in the restaurant. Easy access parking available in front of the hotel. However, all this is not enough to make me return there again.

Really enjoyed our stay here. Friendly staff, clean and big rooms. Food was so good and colourfully presented. Location was convenient with a local bus right outside going to chania in 15mins. Close to lovely coasts so you can take trips on boats there.

Fine dining restaurant
After a five-year absence, a family recently revisited Symposium Restaurant Platanias. They found that the service, food, and ambiance were just as enjoyable and memorable as they had remembered. The waitress named Angelina made their son's 18th birthday special by ensuring a wonderful time and treating him to a birthday dessert while singing to him. The manager and staff provided fantastic customer service, making the family feel welcomed, valued, and appreciated. The restaurant's divine food is worth every penny spent.
With seemingly so many good restaurants in Platanias we found it hard to choose one, but weren't disappointed with Symposium! Quality food, certainly a grade above normal tourist fare. Nice setting too.

Perfect atmosphere, service and food! We orerded the Rigatoni with shrimps and it was really delicious! The service was outstanding, friendly and professional! Last but not least, I loved the background music as it was super romantic 80ies soft rock ;)

Symposium delivers on every aspect off a dining experience you would expect when on a vacation, the food is delightful and the portions are sensible sized. The service is very awake and aware, they are different than a lot of other restaurants in the way that they actually seem intrigued by you as a guest and not only a customer. A Special thanks to Angelina who I must say was a treat talking to. The whole table agreed that she really made the evening just that little extra special. We will be back! 😊

My family and I returned to dine at this restaurant after 5 years. I can honestly say, that the service, food and atmosphere are exactly what we thoroughly enjoyed and remembered experiencing from the past. It was my sons 18th birthday and Angelina, the waitress helped incredibly to ensure that we had a wonderful time and she was a delightful young lady. My son was sung to and treated to a birthday dessert. What a memorable and heart warming way to end our evening. Thank you so much to the manager and other staff for giving us such fantastic customer service and making us feel welcomed, valued and appreciated. We, of course, will recommend you to our friends, family and loved ones, and look forward to dining again at the restaurant, as the food was divine and most definitely worth the money.

We ate here on the first night of our two week holiday. We were really impressed with the food and the service, probably started at the more ‘fine dining’ end of the food available in Platanias, but it’s certainly with a visit! Traditional food served in a modern and contemporary way, whilst keeping traditional flavours alive.
Rob D — Google review
Even though there was a power outage in Platanias when we were there, the chefs still managed to cook our food to perfection somehow! Staff were very attentive during our meal and the decor and atmosphere was also very nice.

Kind of "upper class" feel to it. Fantastic food. My stuffed chicken and mash was really, really impressive. The taste and portions were just... right. It was so good. Loved it, will be back.

Beautiful setting and well decorated all around, the food was presented nicely but was pretty under seasoned I know theres salt and pepper on the table but I think this should be handled in the kitchen, it got a little bit busy and then we found difficult to get anyones attention to pay the bill.

Cosmos is a family-run restaurant in Chania/Platanias with exceptional service and an outstanding view, making it the perfect spot to watch the sunset. The menu offers creative and gourmet dishes crafted in a colorful and imaginative way. Guests can enjoy authentic Greek dishes like fish balls, tzatziki, octopus, chicken souvlaki, and gnocchi. The stuffed grapevines are particularly delicious. The portions are generous, and the cacao mousse is a delightful dessert option.
10/10 You must visit here! The best meal we had whilst staying in Platanias. That good we went back a second time for our last meal. It’s well worth the hike up the hill. The food, service & views are fantastic. We had squid & mushroom starters that were yummy, followed by steaks…..perfection!! I’d eat here every night : )

A perfect panorama view out over Platanias. Staff was friendly and almost everything we ordered came very fast. There was a small hiccup in the order process and they missed an order for one us, so that came a little later (but we didn't have to pay for that portion). Everything was nice and tasteful. But in the end of our meal they emptied our table so fast that it felt like we were being "thrown out" which kinda ruined the mood 😑

We visited this restaurant three times in one week. Chicken souvlaki so good we had to go back and get the exact same dish a couple of days later. While there, I saw some other guest having the salmon pasta so I obviously had to go back to get that on a third night. My fiance had the chicken gorgonzola gnocchi, also delicious. Couldn't get enough of the view either. Lovely staff.

Restaurant with amazing views to sea and mountain. Fine dining place with great service and amazing food. We couldn't get taxi back from hills where restaurant is located to hotel, so the owner of the restaurant drove us back to hotel free of charge. Amazing service 5/5

Excellent restaurant. Best views over Platanias with amazing food. Food is a bit more expensive than in some restaurants down in the village but still very reasonable prices. Watching the sun set while eating delicious dishes is worth experiencing. Customer service is also brilliant. Everyone are super friendly.

Good food and good service. The go-to place for your sunset dinner with the incredible view. All in all nice, fancy and neat, but apart from the view we didn't experience that something extra, that would've elevated the experience from good to awesome.

This amazing panoramic view resturent was our last stop in Crete before we left. It is a family run business. The owner greeted us himself and seated us in a table to watch the sunset behind the mountains. The food menu is very creative and considered Gourmet with a sophisticated crafting of the dishes in a colorful and imaginative way. The dishes taste as good as the looks. The stuffed grapevines are a favorite of mine and comparing to others I have tasted across the island this was the tastiest. The duck meat dish is also very tasty. The Slovakia and the octopus out of this world. Highly recommended place that you must go to if you are ever in Rethimno.

We were looking for a good view and I think we found it. When we came, it was almost full, but we got a table upstairs, but not close to the edge. The waiter said we would be moved to the edge as soon as possible, and we only needed to wait for 10min. We ordered a starter and mojitos to begin and it came really quick. We had the recommended lamb shank for main as it was straight from the oven. The food tasted really good, great portions and excellent service with a good view!

Cosmos restaurant is stunning in every way. The view is the best on the hill you can see the sun setting on the left. The food menu is modern and delicious. Beautiful wine and cocktails. The owner is also super friendly, we stayed next door and he helped us access the property. This restaurant is a must visit but make sure you reserve as it gets super busy.

After arrival, we were brought to the roof terrace with a beautiful view over Platanias and were offered some drinks. Sadly, we waited over 45 minutes until someone asked us if everything is okay and that our dinner table inside is ready, which we were not aware that this is a thing there. We were a bit confused to be honest that no one gave us a dinner menu or something like that. This process of informing the guests when the table is ready could really be optimized. Besides that, after we got to the table, the service was really fast, caring and kind. We got our dishes quickly and it was very tasty.

We had the fish balls, tzatziki and octopus to start, they were all very authentic Greek dishes and did not disappoint on taste. For main we had chicken and gnocchi as well as the chicken souvlaki, tasted really good (big portions!!) to finish we had the cacao mousse which came with complimentary glasses of Moët. Up until now, I have only visited Palio Arhontiko's beachfront area and had drinks exclusively. However, the cocktails were delightful, particularly when sipped by the beach while the children played in the water. The Cafe Freddo and Frappe were exceptional. Today's Aperol Spritz was one of the most well-balanced Aperols I've tasted in Kolymvari. It is highly recommended to come and dine here as their service is consistently friendly and impeccable.
This is still on of our favourite places in Crete, the staff is lovely and the food is absolutely fantastic. Yes, the price can be a bit high for Greek standards, but that is logical for the quality of food you get!

So far, we have only been to their beach front and consumed exclusively drinks. But those were nice! Cocktails are very nice here - perfect to slurp them right on the beach while the kids are playing in the water. Café Freddo and Frappé are exquisite. Today's Aperol Spritz was one of the best balanced Aperols of Kolymvari. We should come and eat here.... Service is always perfect and friendly. Spot on! By the way: their sunbeds are the best and most comfy in town! Free of charge, if you get a drink. Or two... ;)

This was the fifth restaurant I visited during this trip and the first place that did every course with a twist - in a good way. Great meal. Fantastic service. We were welcomed with a glass of fizz each on arrival and given personal recommendations from the menu. Food was incredible and very well presented. Lots of meat, fish and veg options so something to suit everyone. Very attentive staff who put the heaters on for us and checked in to make sure everything was ok for us without being intrusive. Complementary dessert after our main was really nice and a shot of local Raki to finish off the night was an experience! Highly recommend

Wonderful service at the Old Mansion. Having eaten here on numerous times during our recent visit to Crete, we could not recommend this place more. The menu is varied and all is delicious. Kyano is a fantastic seaside spot for relaxation and dining. I highly recommend trying the intriguing Orange wine from Anatolikos Vineyards, which is fermented and aged unfiltered with native yeasts. This unique wine showcases its authenticity by displaying visible residues inside the bottle. It offers a nostalgic taste of ancient winemaking traditions. On the palate, one can detect hints of apricot, honey, pineapple, and orange peel. While the food may not be extraordinary, the service is exceptional.
The best place! We found it in our first evening, and where we had returned back again few days after. The atmosphere is amazing, with nice music appropriate to the place, the food is delicious and fresh, extremely friendly and careful service. Definitely recommended!

Went here because of the nice reviews. The location is great, right by the sea. The drinks were also good. However, the mushroom pasta (which was recommended to me as a vegetarian dish) was so-so. It wasn’t bad, but it felt like something you’d order from a fast food place. My boyfriend ordered a traditional meat pie which was a bit more pricy, and he wasn’t too pleased with that either.
Kimberly — Google review
Great place to relax and have something to eat by the sea. Highly recommend a very interesting bottle of wine from Anatolikos Vineyards: fermented and aged unfiltered with indigenous yeasts, not the normal commercial stuff you usually get. You can see the residues inside the bottle. It’s called Orange because of the colour. Drink it like what wine was like thousand of years ago. Apricot on the nose, honey, apricot, pineapple and orange peel on the palate. Food is ok, to get honest nothing really stands out, but service is excellent. Great value for money too! It really is a hidden gem! Food 7/10, service 9/10, ambience 8/10, value for money 9/10.

Very kind staff and very good food; If you like your beef raw, they know how to serve it! If you prefer it cooked they can probably do that too, but I won’t have a good beef destroyed to test that :) Overall a good experience, not a restaurant for when you’re in a hurry, but one for enjoying the sea breeze wether at night or by midday. I promise the staff did by no means coerce me into writing this

We went here our first day on our one-week vacation and probably had the majority of all our breakfasts, lunches, and dinners here after that. We fell in love with the place immediately! The service is fantastic, the food amazing and the view so beautiful. Everything to good prices. They also have sunbeds so you could stay here for the whole day and both enjoy the food and the sun & sea. We will definitely come back to Crete and of course to Kyano. //Sofia & Ida

Definitely read my review before coming here The food arrived very late. Only a few French fries were served, was there a need to be so stingy? The chicken was not cooked sufficiently, very dry, with insufficient seasoning, tasteless and unsalted. I'm still hungry, I feel like I haven't eaten. If I was starving, I wouldn't eat here again.Even the bill came so so late oh my god..

One of the best restaurants in the area! During our stay in Crete, we went here twice and both times we had a great experience! The service is great and friendly, always trying to help you to make a good choice in food and drinks. I would advise to check their wine card because they have a wide range of different wines.

Very nice, spacious and relaxing place, with a beautiful view over the sea. Guys are very kind and friendly. About food, you can have a good choice between meat and fish, and you can discover some traditional Greek dishes. For that I have eaten (in particular, traditional food), I can say that all the flavors and ingredients are prepared with care and attention. I recommend the place.

We came here for a quick dinner. We got the calamari and garlic bread with oregano and olive oil. Both were amazing and portions were great. For the main we got the greek pizza which was okay, nothing special and lacked some flavour. We also got the Kleftiko lamb again lacked flavour and it was not good to eat. It is essentially lamb in stew with cheese on top. Service was good and was reasonably priced. Just did not like the mains.

EXCELLENT 😉 Delicious food, wonderful view, it is located on the beach. The services were excellent. Staff is super professional and very fast. The prices are good and the quality of food and services excellent. We were eating 2 times at the restaurant and they made us feel special. One of the best place in Platanias and maybe Crete!

A beautiful place with delicious food and attentive staff. This was the absolute best dinner so far. Our daughter had the steamed mussels and they were perfect in a very tasty broth. My husband had the avocado and prawns for starters, myself had the sea bass ceviche. And then, we had the seafood pasta and tuna. Absolutely delicious! And the wine recommendation, finally we got the opportunity to taste a really good Cretan wine. This is something else. We’ll be back!

what to say.....top...TOP👍🏻 This place is just fantastic, the CREW here is so nice, they work so good together, the 2 head waiters LUAN and GIORGOS are so good , they see it all, and get the Restaurent running in a nice way. If they was working for me, i would pay them a very good salery, because they are good for business.👍🏻 A very BIG kiss and thanks to the super staff..waiters/helpers PAUOS- MARIOS-EFFIE-AGGELOS-Eleftheria Prices at ok, because the amount of food, and the quality is very much in top, so a good cook. The place of the restaurant..top top too... just next to the sea so in the evening you eat in sun down. This place i sure recommend to dine. HELLO FROM THE DANISH FAMILY from VIGEN METTE - KIM

We stayed at the Marika hotel and went to waves for our first night in Platanias as it was located in the hotel. The view and scenery of the restaurant are gorgeous! When we arrived we ordered a bread basket, and for starter we ordered a mushroom tart. It took about 25-30 minutes until the bread basket arrived with the mushroom tart. We would expect the basket to arrive pretty soon after ordering it. The bread also seemed like something you could get frozen from a grocery store and the presentation was not that appealing. The tart seemed to be straight from the oven as it was pretty hot, but it was way too much crust compared to filling. However the taste of the filling was good. We were still chewing the last bit of our starter/bread when they came with our main course and asked if we were done. We expected to get some time in between to let the food settle. For the main course we ordered a Greek salad and moussakas. The portions were big and the vegetables seemed fresh. The moussaka tasted good, but it was very greasy and the potato/other filling ratio was leaning towards more potatoes. It is a beautiful restaurant, but don’t know if we would go there if it wasn’t for us staying at the hotel. The pricing is also fair, but some starters were a bit expensive. We also wish there were more Cretan/Greek items for starters on the menu.

Great food, excellent service. Right next to the beach and adequately priced for the quality of food you receive. Definitely a great location!

Really amazing food, and a lot of it too for quite a reasonable and kind price! Staff were very polite and ensured the wine glass was never empty! Very cozy place, and looking at the quality of food, the price is quite low! Very satisfied. Also beautiful view of the ocean and the cave across from the beach. Pictured is the Jack Daniel's Burger, really juicy and tasteful. Couldn't finish as it was so much! My mother tried one of the Greek traditional dishes and was very pleased!

Unbelievable... From the friendly staff and breathtaking views to the fabulous food and incredible desserts, everything here is fantastic! We've been in Crete for 2 weeks, and our kids demanded we come back here for our last night on the island... Of course we were NOT going to say no to that! Also, I highly recommend the chocolate/salted caramel dessert... Seriously, I'd come back to Crete just for that!

Just by the beach, nice and comfortable with big fans to cool you off. We were perfectly satisfied with the lamb chops and briam. Prepared with care and skill, lots of flavour and perfectly sized for a main course.

Very nice restaurant by the sea. Friendly staff and good food. Prices are reasonable, not cheapest but not the most overnexpensive either.

Pretty accomodating food was good price moderate due to it being by the beach and is part of the hotels. Garlic Bread was delicious, wasn't too fond of the sauages a bit overpowering, Chicken on a stick one was a little undercooked, Lamb was good altough small. At the end Raki and a basket of fruit is on the house. All in all good just wish they had desserts. Recommend the American Burger if you have the stomach for its really big. Next time ill get that.

Our favourite lunch spot in platanias with the best ocean view and friendly staff. Have tried the sandwiches, pizzas, salads and pasta here and they were all very tasty. The feta cheese on the club sandwich instead of regular cheese is a nice touch.
