Makarska

Makarska is a port town on Croatia’s Dalmatian coast, known for its Makarska Riviera beaches, seafront promenade and nightlife. On a small bay between wooded headlands, the old town centers on Kačić Square. Ferries connect the port to nearby Brač island. To the east towers the rugged Mt. Biokovo, a nature reserve home to golden eagles and Balkan chamois, with hairpin roads up to Sveti Jure’s summit.

Very nice beach, you can find lockers, water sports possibility, many restaurants. There are some hidden area where you can chill by yourself or with your loved one. Must to see in Makarska.

Nice and clean pebble beach. If you want a spot in the shade, I would recommend coming early before 10 am to pick your spot. Recommend to bring swimming shoes.
Jenna Ta — Google review
Loved every minute I've spent here. It's free (obviously), there are many bars, restaurants nearby with acceptable prices.
Gergely Pállay — Google review
We stopped in front of the beach in the st. Peter peninsula but it is considered part of the beach as well. The view is astonishing and the water is crystal clear.
Ricardo Davila — Google review
There are better beaches than this one if you are willing to take a 20-30 minutes walk or hop on a train. This public beach is nice of you are with the family and having children so that they can have activities and the other thing is that you have a lot of restaurants and shops nearby. However for me personally the best beaches are Nugal or the one next to dog beach. Anyway you'll love it here.
vondysha — Google review
The great clean water regardless of the number of people on the beach. Be ready that in August there is a lot of people as you see on the pictures. But still all is clean. There are a lot of restaurants and food points with pretty adequate prices. You also can find a shadow under the pine trees. The price for a beach chair per day is 60 Croatioan kuna. Also there is a lot of entertainment for children like aquaparks, play grounds e c. The food at those restaurants are delicious and fresh.

Secluded pebbly seaside beach & naturist site surrounded by cliffs & forests.
The beach is not accessible by car You have to park in kaufland Parking and then take rocky forest walk for half an hour at a comfortable pace. Be advised that part of the beach is nudist. There is a few picnic tables shady place
Nouha ouerheni — Google review
the road is a challenge, you need special shoes for it, but the view is worth it👌
Alina Iftodi — Google review
A wonderful beach to visit if you are willing to take a little hike. It is about 15-30 minutes and leads through a short forrest section and leads into a cliff section with a beautiful view. The beach itself is separated into two parts, a nudist part and a non nudist part. There is plenty of shade under trees. The water is very clear and easy to swim in.
Melik Can Karabacak — Google review
Amazing beach. Worth to be visited. Bring water and food with you! The best way is to park near Kaufland Makarska and go by foot. Take the path to the sea and than follow the path by the sea and you will reach beach in approx. 30 min. There are trees at beach that provide some shadow, but no bars.
?an Koren — Google review
Don’t park your car on the road - we did as everyone else and got a ticket €30 🥲 The road is beautiful, but not the easiest, and slippery. I saw 2 two squirrels in the forest 🐿️ The beach is 1/2 for naturalists & other for 👙
Katrin — Google review
Great secluded beach with picnic area.
M B — Google review
The beach is not nudist FKK anymore. We were disapointed about. There were 2 people naked. The place was crowded. We dont like it there. We came there and immediately left the place. The rock next to beach was beuatiful. The way to the beach was nice.
Ivica Pavlovi? — Google review
The beach used to be a nudist’s, but now it is occupied mostly by regular non-nudist-tourists:) I cannot say it is so good as a must have place to visit, but you 100% need to walk through the path in the forest which goes near the beach in the Makarska direction. Here you’ll see a breathtaking views and breath the smell of pines forests. It is mainly in the shadows, so it won’t be a torture to walk around even in the midday. It was very crowded on 15th of August 2023. We came approximately at 8 am, there were already a couple of families. We left the car on Kaufland parking, it is free.
Sergey Subotovskyi — Google review
I recommend wearing shoes when going there, because you have to hike a bit (easiest way to get there is going by car to Kaufland, and walk around 30 minutes from there). The beach itself is rather small with lots of shades.
Gergely Pállay — Google review
Park at the grocery store and hike about 30 mins to the beach. A moderate hike with some incline but beautiful views along the way. Pack your own food and water. It was really crowded on a weekday - the first part of the beach is clothing and families and the far end is nude. Some shade and picnic areas too. It was too busy for me so we left and went to a less crowded beach but if you like lots ofpeople around to socialize then you’ll enjoy it.
Sasha Kauffman — Google review
Use a map take water and something to sit on, sun screen and snacks. This place is amazing. Stay on the track of the map I used Google maps. It is hilly but it's worth it. Sensible shoes is a must. The scenery is simply breath taking. There is no amenities on this beach however there are tables and benches and shade. It's also a nudist beach or half of it the other half is family friendly. Got a little lost on the way back but again as soon as I referred to the maps I was ok. There isn't a specific path for some of it but trust Google maps. I did and it was a beautiful find and a fun adventure.
Alice Bentley — Google review
Came here by walk from Makarska center. You need to go behind Kaufland supermarket and follow the path through the forest. The way is beautiful. I went after 5pm and it was not crowded, the water was clear and still warm. I read that it was a nudist beach, but it seems it is only a part of the beach. I would come back here again, it is much better than the crowded beaches in Makarska.
Nuria — Google review
This is a nice wild beach with gorgeous views. The way from Makarska is quite easy, with marvellous views and takes only 20-30 minutes. This beach is nudist, but the majority are tourists and they wear swimsuits. Also, there are some trees, so you can hide in shadows from the hot sun. However, there is pebbles and the water isn't very clear.

Very interesting place to visit and specially with kids. Would highly recommend it. There is a great variety of shells from around the world, impressive exhibit of corals, and some big turtle shells. We enjoyed touching a giant clam. It vas refreshing, felt like a marble. Glad we visited. I would say it's informative just about enough to digest when visiting.

Amazing collection gathered over the years by the monastery. Not too big but definitely worth visiting. We were looking at the pieces from Hawaii and it turns out that someone who was actually from Hawaii was standing next to us. Long story short, the Hawaiian word for "turtle" is "honu" :-)
Cosmin Cimpoi — Google review
Only on the site we realised that the museum is closed. When contacting them by phone I received the information that due to covid-19 and less tourists they remain closed throughout the season. The information should have been useful in advance, before our 3 Km walk. On the internet this information should be available.

An impressive collection of shells from around the world, with information on the collection and how it was amassed. Also contains small displays about local paleontological fossil finds, as well as flora and fauna of the local area. The displays would benefit greatly from some images of the wildlife that create them, and the inclusion of some basic information on the biological processes that lead to their formation would be really informative and interesting, too. Wonderful work on the collection so far, keep it up!

Makarska is a prominent regional tourist center, located on a horseshoe shaped bay between the Biokovo mountains and the Adriatic Sea. Is a perfect blend of mountains & sea. The town is touristic, it can be crowded at tines & also in the summer it can get very hot. Great beaches, great harbor from where you can get different boats & tours. Also if you have accommodation up the hill prepare for some workout :)

New and large private beach in Makarska. Really beautiful and clean sea. On the beach you can find lots of activities, stalls, bars and restaurants. The only disadvantage of this beach is a lot of people. The view from the sea to the rocks is unforgettable!

such a pretty beach :) there are cool little fishes in the sea

Great beach. You can actually walk from this one to the other one and it takes you 10mins. Side note, it's not a sandy beach. You have to pay 10€ for parking ticket which is valid for the whole day. The sunbeds cost 10€ and they give you a receipt after payment. If someone wants to charge you for using the sunbeds and gives you no receipt, that's a scammer. So be careful. There are some around to scam people!

Restaurant
Tempera Streetfood & Bar, located in Makarska, Croatia, boasts a fantastic setting and ambiance. Although the menu lacks vegan options, the attentive waiter quickly understood our needs and provided helpful suggestions. We tried the tacos which were decently sized but ordinary in taste. The sauce had a sugary undertone reminiscent of generic supermarket products. Unfortunately, they only removed the meat without substituting it with anything else while maintaining the same high price.
You definitely should visit this restaurant if you are in Makarska but don't forget to make a reservation as restaurant is full of guests on the evenings. Food is veeeryy delicious and a little bit different (special) than in other places. The Staff is very friendly and professional. Just visit this place to get what I mean;)

I really appreciate it and recommend this place for everyone visiting Makarska 😅😎 i was here with my friends and everyone was shocked about quality of this place. We recommend Hillbilly Steak it's amazing. Potatoes there are Poetry for the mouth. Salad is also very good. Best place to eat in Makarska

Awesome food! They also have veggie dishes and vegan. The Chef's burgher veggie was awesome. If you're in for some spice in your life you should definitely ask for the hot sauce, watch out for the Scorpion one, one drop makes you hiccup! Prices are fair according to the serving and food!

Food was excellent and the price for what we got was very much ok 💪

We just love this place! It's very unique and special...Every year we are at least once there when we are in Makarska. Food, location and service are just great. Would definitely recommend this restaurant (on the pictures you can see the foreplay smoked salmon (sooo good) - Kentucky chicken (the chicken could have a bit more flavour, but the waffle was awesome) - tempura shrimp (some more side dishes could make it even better) - brisket (the meat was just hmmmm tasty)

The crispy salmon is maybe nog very crispy but it tastes very very good! If you are super hungry try the burria tacos. And if you jyst want to try something new and exiting take the hula hula with beef. Wow. And maybe a gin-tonic on the side 😀

I ate here with my two teenage children on holiday in Makarska. One of our best and most enjoyable meals thanks to the quality of the food and nice service by waiting staff. We would definitely go back. Small improvements that could be made are the lighting and music. The nice ambient lighting created a lovely atmosphere but was a little dark as we struggled to see our food and read the wine menu. We sat under one of the speakers which played relaxing ambient music that created a nice atmosphere but the volume was just a little too high for easy conversation. Great location next to the harbour and prices were reasonable for the quality of food and service.

Got a table by chance on Saturday evening without a reservation. Got to taste homemade olive oil with bread and after dinner some dessert vine and some kind of herb liqueur for free. Food was really good, the owner himself made sure everything was fine. Would definitely go again and recommend to others 👍🏻

Staff was extremely nice, food was fresh, beautifully served. We ate the mixed sea food platter. Haddock was bomb, as well as the tuna fillet's. I wish those fillets were bigger since they were amazingly done. We didn't enjoy the rest of the seafood that much. Somehow the squids were a bit bland, but overall it was good. The owner gave us some of his homemade olive oil to try with bread as well as some of his homemade wine and two shots. Hospitality was top notch. Overall, the restaurant is worth going to. Make sure to make reservations since they open at 6pm! :)

One of the best restaurants I have ever visited. The food is very fresh and absolutely delicious. Very tasty and well prepared and you can chose among many menu options. I arrived at the restaurant with no place to park.  A gentleman actually moved his wife's car to allow me a place to park. He offered some homemade bread.  I have not been a fan of the bread with olive oil as it seems to dry to me.  I apologized to him for getting some honey I bought on the side of the road. He said the honey was no good but gave me some thick, dark, full flavored honey to try.  He opened a fresh bottle for me! Indeed it was three times better. But the best bread combination by far was eating the grilled cheese with honey over the bread.  I doubt that was how it was intended but it was amazing. It just melted in my mouth and was absolute deliciousness. I ate the seafood risotto  with the house white and it was delicious.  Calamari, mussels and a jumbo shrimp in a red sauce. I ordered the Dalmatian rump steak to end with the house red.  The steak was cooked perfectly, paired well with the house red and the sides were delicious as well.  I wish the steak knife were sharper. The presentation of the food was nice, the staff was attentive quickly replacing silverware and small touches like a napkin wrapped around the container for the wine so it would not drip on the table.  The ambiance was perfect. It was a family friendly environment and it felt rustic. Beautiful patio. The gentleman who helped me seemed to run the place.  He was busy, worried but was making sure customers were happy.  It looks like a family run restaurant. There are certain meals I just get a feeling for, somehow knowing it will not be beaten.  I doubt I will experience a meal as delightful during the rest of my stay in Croatia. To end things, the gentleman insisted I try one of his port wines for dessert. One last thing, although I did not make a reservation, I suggest doing so.

The food and the service was excellent. I put 4 stars instead of 5 because there's no menu. You don't know what is available and as a tourist you don't understand all the ingredients. And you don't know how much you're going to pay until you see the bill. For the big fish for 2 persons, the server didn't ask us to choose and told us about a certain weight (because you pay on weight). After, we found out a different weight. Anyway, the food was delicious

We ended up eating here twice during our 5 night stay in Makarska. Great food and service. The ambience is really nice on a beautiful pedestrian street in town. I definitely recommend picking some fish made to order. You pay by weight of the fish you choose and it comes with vegetables and fried potatoes. Everything was absolutely delicious. Appetizers were great as well - I loved the octopus salad and the rice salad with melon and shrimp. It’s no-fuss, good food. I highly recommend eating here!

We have been there twice this week and both of the times were amazing. The food was delicious, they definitely can cook a tasty steak, it was a perfect medium rare. The service was very friendly. The servant explained everything very well and all his suggestions very on point. It’s also important to mention that meat as well as fish are fresh there. The interior at this restaurant is very lovely too (see the pictures). A great place to visit, recommended.

We came here for lunch: house wine was good, and we chose potatoes, dorade and shrimps in a white wine sauce. It was good but a lot of work (do the shrimps, clean the bones) etc. The sauce was good. The best thing was the panacotta fig desert. It was surprisingly delicious!

Restaurant without menu. They have daily catch and will cook it for you. Service is a bit slow, but it is authentic Croatian cuisine, and served in very pretty dishes! Food is nice, chickpea and squid stew was good, shark fillet was excellent. And take your time and ask about prices and preparation time and everything will be well. For 2 people we paid under 35€

Delicious seafood, great and friendly staff. Really special atmosphere. I would recommend making a reservation as the always have customers, especially at dinner. I recommend fresh fish which you can choose by yourself from the special fridge. At the time of our visit, July 2021, I was a bit surprised to find out that the don’t really have any menu, however they have fish from which you can choose and they will cook it for you. Prices are quite reasonable. This is the right place to visit and enjoy nice seafood and some wine

The service was really slow. 25 min to have a small starter. Then 1h20 to have 2 fish. It is quite expensive. 2 small fish, one tartine and one bottle of water. 140 euros and 3h. They also have no menu and sometime sélection is low. 4 options
Business Explorer — Google review
Ok, this restaurant works a little different. There is no menu. There is only a „shopping window“ with the catch of the day. You can go there with the service, and he will tell you what fish is available and costs per kilo. If you ask, the service will take time and explain. Every fish comes with potatoes and vegetables. We were afraid to pay a lot, because of the other reviews. But we had a amazing plate for 2 people for ~50€, incl wine.

Restoran Bounty is an elegant beachfront dining spot in Makarska, offering a terrace with a focus on serving cocktails, wine, and traditional cuisine. While the restaurant doesn't have a dedicated vegan menu, it does offer options like veggie salad and quinoa salad (minus the feta cheese) as well as veggie burgers (though not entirely vegan due to mayonnaise). The burgers come with delicious fries and Guacamole Mayo sauce.
Amazing view on a sunset.. great food (We tried delicious tuna steak and chicken salad but chicken breast was not so perfect..). The only thing is missing- candles on the table and might be a heater for those who enjoyed food outside on the terrace.

Beautiful seafront historic bar & restaurant! We visited in low season (April), so it wasn't very busy. Friendly staff, gorgeous views. The female waiter recomended the Dalmatian local 187ml red wine (so fruity!) and my Fiance enjoyed a local draft 0,5l beer. Red Wine measurements in Croatia - is not like the UK. Croatia prefer 100ml, 187ml (from a small bottle) or a full 750ml. The whites and rosé have a variety of sizes. We think it's because it's a hot climate, so drinking cooler wine is more popular! Lots of seating outdoors on the actual beach stones, lovely balcony literally waves lapping underneath you, and we sat indoors with around 10 tables. I can imagine summer will be packed.

The best steak I've ever eaten. The waiter was amazing, he made recommendations for food, and he was absolutely correct. He took me into the bar to try their own craft beers, and was so nice when I asked to have my steak cooked for a little longer (entirely my own fault for ordering wrong). Will be highly recommending to everyone, unfortunately only have photos of the amazing dessert because our steaks were too good to stop for a photo!

Lovely views and good food. Service was great. I have been told that this place has the best burgers in Croatia and I can back that up after my experience. Definitely recommend the burgers!

We ate lunch there in July. The atmosphere was stunning! We had the water right next to us :) We ate ribs, a chickenburger, a double burger and a sandwich with prosciutto and pesto. All dishes were really good! With drinks we had to pay 68€. They accept card payments. :) The service was good and it didn't take too long. I would recommend this restaurant if you want a good lunch with a gorgeous view!

Everything that we ordered were tasty and good. We tried 2 types of burgers, tagliatelle with shrimps, tuna steak ( was perfect-a little bit raw inside, as I like) and veal sausages-tasted very well. Recommend this restaurant also because of amazing see view and mountains’ panorama 🙂

Took 15 minutes for a waiter to come to the table to welcome us and order drinks, despite going up to the bar and then being told someone will come to us. Drinks were slightly overpriced for what they were (€4 for a bottle of iced tea) but lovely outside area and because the service is so slow it's basically like a free place to sit in the shade in a comfy seat!

Food: Oberall very good food. The BBQ Ribs were great. The Tuna steak was overcooked but the service was excellent and we got a new dish. Service: Very good and friendly service. Very attentive and customer focused (see comment above). Location: amazing location right at tha sea with lots of seating options. We very much enjoyed it. Prices: Prices are ok, certainly considering the location. Verdict: Great Restaurant. I can highly recommend it.

We went here for our first night after seeing all the online reviews. Overall it was good but wasn't anything spectacular. It's also worth mentioning that the restaurant don't have any allergen guides and seemed a little confused when we asked - they did do their best to let us know what food is cooked fresh though. We ended up having the chicken wings and fries which were tasty. They were full of flavour and cooked well. The restuarant does have tables by the sea front which are perfect for taking in the beautiful views while you eat.

Difficult to rate this restaurant 5 stars, as some dishes they do very well, while some they fell to. Overall is a nice culinary experience but it depends to ones taste also. The rib eye was very good, along with the sweet potato purée, on the other hand the t-bone seemed they rushed to get it out to the table, a bit uncooked and quite greasy. The staff is friendly but at times they seem overloaded and I have never liked being told that the tip is not included, showing that they expect tip. Tip is up to the customer consideration and should not be put under pressure to feel the urgency to leave tip. I recommend it, but make sure to book a table next to the sea, this way you will really have a nice view and good food, if chosen carefully

Spacious restaurant located right at the beach with various sitting possibilities ranging from couches, sofas, comfy chairs and dining tables. The dining tables are located right at the sea, giving the impression of floating above the water. The looks and design of this place are 5/5. We only had drinks here, several days. They serve food, open beers, coffee and cocktails. We tried different cocktails every day and they were all well made, tasty and nicely served. A big downside of this restaurant are the waiters. The staff is untrained and seems lost in its job and forgetting orders. Two times on different days we were given the menu and instead of giving us time to choose, the waiters waited impatiently until we chose our drinks (even though the restaurant was almost empty), giving us a bad feeling and need to hurry. In summary, good drinks and ambience but the experience is ruined by the bad service.

As you wander through the cobblestone streets, you may stumble upon this charming tavern adorned in festive Christmas decorations. We came for dinner twice it was so good! Highly recommend the black risotto, Zagreb schnitzel and the pasta (didn’t get a photo sorry)! Staff are polite and helpful. A little more on the expensive side however well worth it!

Nice place with a good location, although it’s not close to the seaside. We couldn’t find a place for dinner, as we didn’t have a reservation, therefore it would be a good idea to make one. However we came in for lunch when it was not busy. We had seabass and seafood pasta, both were really delicious. The staff is nice and ready to help. Definitely worth paying a visit.

Five star service and excellent quality food for regular price. We ordered a few vegetarian starters and dishes, the tuna steak and a chicken dish. Everything was great. The waiter was charmingly warm and very accommodating.

Loved it, don't hesitate and just go. Make sure to make a reservation so you don't miss out. Flavours are great, presentation is outstanding, and staff is really friendly. Always great if you can sense the passion in a place such as this.

Located in a beautiful street, this place doesn’t have a lot of options in the menu. But the ones they have - be sure, these options will be good! The waiter was very quick and nice, the place is full of greens. We took a shrimp salad and a typical grilled burger - both were great and the portions were big. A place not to miss when in Makarska.

Strolling the stone paved streets, came across this fabulous tavern, all ready for Christmas, beautiful decor, friendly staff, such a warm welcome! Food was excellent, classic, yet gourmet burger 🍔, and they accommodated my special request to prepare sweet potato fries in the own! They also offered me tasting of Kombucha as a gift from the house! What a great evening. Highly recommend if in Makarska!

Great place in the old town. Pittoresque street, wonderful food and kind and quick service. We had tunasteak and stuffed chicken. 2 drinks and tiramisu and warm apple crumble cake for around 60 euros. Really nice!

The food was average at best. The atmosphere is fabulous. The server was what tipped the meal to a lower score. He charged us for a bottle of wine vs a glass. We requested no potatoes but that was missed. We asked where the olive oil came from and he sarcastically remarked ‘from the grocery store’. We left unimpressed! If the food was better we could overlook the service but together this ensures we won't return.
