Restaurant
Chez Hortense is a long-standing seafood restaurant located in Lege-Cap-Ferret, offering a charming outdoor terrace adorned with lush greenery and boasting stunning views of the bay. This fine dining spot specializes in French cuisine with an emphasis on delectable seafood dishes. The restaurant is known for its upscale ambiance, making it a popular destination for those seeking an unforgettable dining experience.
Excellent food and a gorgeous view! Fishes and seafood are so good they don't need complex preparation to be delicious. Portions are big so it's a good place for sharing both entries and main courses. The place is very popular so the staff can be a little pushy with the bill. Make a reservation ahead!

Super busy so BOOK IN ADVANCE by calling. Great atmosphere and amazing food. Everything very fresh as well. The salmon was exquisite and the oysters as well. Mussels were also well done and seasoned. Small tip: Make sure to order some fries. They are also very good. Also, make sure your french is polished as well.
Tomas Crespo — Google review
A very cozy and comfortable place, perfect for family and friends to get together. Although in the same sea area, I compared the other two and I found that the quality of the oysters here is particularly good. In the choice of white wine, the store may add some moderately priced Bordeaux dry white, such as Entre-deux-Mers.

Wow ! What a gem. Lovely beach setting, super kind staff and the most AMAZING sea food we've had in ages. Best moules ever !

Chez Hortense is a real Cap Ferret tradition. We'd never been before yesterday, but the restaurant felt familiar from Rick Stein's visits on TV, as many reviews on Trip Advisor attest. Summertime presents difficulties getting to the venue with the single road from Bordeaux and endless queues of traffic, meaning that our roughly 50 km / 30-mile journey took nearly two hours, upping hunger pangs and anticipation. Thankfully, we had made our reservation for much later than the usual French "midi pile", and we were led to our table in among the throng of a restaurant packed by beautiful summery families with children, couples, and mostly French tourists, all noisily chatting away cheerfully while cracking open crustaceans, filleting fish, or sipping wine. The service when we were seated was impeccable. A series of waiters bustled about our table taking orders, bringing food and drinks, but we were never rushed as tables turned around us. Our three-course meal took more than two hours to consume, especially with a starter order of langoustine requiring forensic attention to pry the meat from every bit of carapace. My main course was the mussels that Chez Hortense is rightly famed for. Every time I have mussels, I lean toward the classic way of serving them - moules marinière - because every other way I've ordered in other restaurants leaves me regretting I hadn't ordered marinière again. Chez Hortense mussels are a different story. The flavour of this dish, made richer by Bayonne ham, was truly splendid. The mussels I had seemed never-ending, but it was no hardship to slowly work my way through them, with cracking chips to intersperse mouthfuls of mollusc. We went as a family group of four - mum, dad (me), son, and grandma. All of us chose different starters and main courses (except for my mother and I choosing the langoustine), and everyone was delighted by the choice they made. It was only my mum and I drinking alcohol, and the occasion and the meal demanded a bottle of Sancerre, the king of wines with fish, so that's what we had. For dessert, again, there was a doubling up as both my son and I went for the tiramisu, which was good but not world-topping like our main courses had been. My mum had no dessert; my wife had raspberries and cream. My son and I both had espressos to finish up - then we got the bill. It didn't really come as a shock because the prices were on display, but Chez Hortense isn't inexpensive. If you were to visit and just have a main of the house mussels, drink water, and have no dessert, you could come away with a bill for less than €20, but we didn't do that. Our meal came to roughly €75 per person for the meal I've partially described. Nobody had the lobster at €50 per person or the turbot at €40 per person, so this is an expensive restaurant. Even so, as the special treat this was, it was unforgettable. A couple of other points. The terrace of the restaurant is technically outdoors, even though it's covered and walled, so smokers will be delighted that you can smoke at the table. The second point is perhaps only pertinent for this Covid time we find ourselves in. There was no separation between tables for social distancing, so we were all packed in pretty tightly. I didn't hear anyone coughing or complaining about a lack of flavour, so perhaps we got away with our meal.

This is probably the best sea food restaurant I have ever been to. It is set in a wonderful location, walk along the beach before your meal and eat while enjoying the sea view. The fish is incredibly fresh. We had a wonderful meal: sea bass for 4 (whole fish presented and then excellently served) mussels and oysters. The atmosphere is relaxed and unpretentious. If you're in Bordeaux this is well worth the drive for the walk along the beach and fabulous food.

Oysters so fresh they sing - amazing fish - flawless service - sublime view. Perfection.

Don’t believe some of the negative reviews. We were a party of 8, a little late for our reservation and yet the staff was very nice and didn’t rush us. We had some oysters and sole from the bay that was excellent. Service was swift and efficient , and very friendly. Definitely worth the long commute from Arcachon. We hope to be back again very soon.

Absolutely amazing restaurant! Me who doesn’t like seafood that much loved the oysters and mussels (these were coated in a delicious tasty sauce and were giant). The homemade fries were perfectly cooked, warm and crispy. I would 100% recommend this place. Definitely worth it!
Gabrielle Tjong — Google review
Very disappointed. Considering the prices and beautiful location we thought we were in for a wonderful evening. The staff rushed us as soon as we got there to order. The moules were good but the other plates were at 44 euros. The views at the point was amazing, you pay for the views and the local traditions.

Le Sail Fish is a seafood and grilled meat restaurant with after-dinner DJs and dancing. It is the perfect place for any generation, as there are concerts, shows, and one man show events to enjoy. The food is grilled meats and seafood dishes with a globally inspired flavour. You can order fresh plates of seafood to take home.
Loved loved loved this place. The food was great and priced well for the quantity and quality. The atmosphere was immaculate! Great energy for a night out with friends. The wine selection was great and this place turned into a party after dinner. People were dancing on tables and seats, a girl came out lifted on a surfboard covered in lights when people ordered bottle service, and they did huge celebrations for peoples birthdays. I heavily enjoyed this restaurant and would highly recommend this to anyone! (Also great pescatarian options)

A real institution of Cap-Ferret, this place is amazing! The menu is simple, offering a selection of entrées including a number of different varieties of sea bream carpaccio. The popular mains are the steak sharers (côte du boeuf, fillet, sirloin) that are all cooked on an open fire grill and come with a huge side of fries and green salad. The desserts are all presented on an open trolly that is wheeled to your table, the lemon meringue and strawberry cake are delicious! The cocktail selection is varied and there is a large choice of wine as well. Reservations are quite hard to make so I’d recommend being persistent in calling and make sure you try to book well in advance. We definitely noticed it tends to be more of a group spot than just for couples, and we were the only couple in the restaurant, but it made for some great people watching. The waiting staff were incredibly helpful answering any questions about the menu. As dinner went on, the restaurant began letting more people in to the bar area, and around 11pm the lights went dim, the music went up a notch, and people started dancing on and around their tables. Music tends to be classics, 80’s tunes and anything easy to sing along to. It’s not cheap but we’ll worth it for the food and the experience! Highly recommend!

Terrible service if your looking to go in without speaking French don’t bother because they discriminate against English speakers. We got rejected by the bouncer without a reason whilst many others were let in behind us. Even when google translate was used they still refused to give us a reason not to let us in.
Casper Heuff — Google review
It is highly overpriced restaurant with a fleur of glamour and big luck of attention to details. For example, 26 euros for 5 tuna rolls is really unfair price. The food is ok and well presented, but prices are like in Michelin star restaurant (from which this place is very far). During all evening nobody lightened up the candle on the table and even a boitille of water was not offered. The waiters and all other people looked nice but the luck of attention to details is visible. For example, during Covid épidémie there were no soap and no paper towels. I checked even the cabin for handicapped visitors - no 🧼 So, even if guests would like to respect sanitary measures they can not:( I felt like foolish tourist with this choice of place, unfortunately. Which is happened first time in Cap-Ferret, generally speaking the restaurants and bars are good here.

No star possible I’m afraid. Definitely the worst dining experience. Our food was confused with two other tables and sadly when being served, an hour and a half later, there was little satisfaction found in a dry Osso-Bucco. Diplomacy was attempted on our part however the manager and varying staff members were clearly not willing to be professional or polite. We ended leaving after the main meal with an extremely small birthday tart for 10 (6 portions) on a plate wrapped in cling film, to celebrate at home. We were told to take the tart and leave!

Very Good food, but no place to party well. They try hard to generate a party atmosphere, but with a texting and smoking DJ this is very hard. Very much outdated in my opinion!

Have eaten here twice. Once on the roof with the family and last night as a couple on the small terrace. Two different experiences. Each time the food and service was amazing. The atmosphere is highly professional but very relaxed Hoping we have time to go again before we leave!

Very very nice rooftop with a great view on the Phare and great sun exposition. The service was amazing and the food was delicious! The pizzas, fish, and sea food were to die for, the only issue was the Milanese veal that was a bit too heavy and hard to finish…

Nice little menu. The "cochon" meat was really nice. The restaurant is clean and neat. We came early and enjoyed a quiet dinner in a well ventilated dining room for a hot summer day. The home-made fries & potatoes served with the main are delicious!

Very nice place. We took a "Daurade grillée". Well cooked, good sauce and lovely light dessert. Good service too. Highly recommended

I enjoyed our dinner at Le Bouchon du Ferret. It's a solid go for the area, great quality products and decent (albeit not abundant...) portions. We got a beer, a drink, 2 starters, 2 fish dishes and a dessert for 140 EUR. While the price is okay for the area, I would have appreciated a slightly bigger portion for that. The starter was trying its best to be "gastronomique": a sea bream ceviche with mango and a coconut mousse. My girlfriend loved it, I found the mousse a bit too acid and overall slightly off-balance. The main (turbot with an artichoke cannellone) was good but not extraordinary (and over 36 EUR). Dessert, though, was a true 5/5! And they all looked amazing Bottom line: very nice staff, good products, okay price for Le Cap Ferret and a tendency to look for a gastronomic experience though I am taking a small star away because I think it's not there yet and portions could be a bit bigger! However, still a solid choice. 4/5

Excellent ! The spot is beautiful by the sea and the oyster huts. The service is friendly and professional. The terrace is modern and timeless, perfect for a lunch in the sun with your partner, family or friends. The cuisine is excellent. It is fine and refined. Sea, sun and oysters ;-) PERFECT !

I appreciate the care with which all the dishes are prepared. There is always something unique for each main fish versus the same sides dishes with each plate. We love to sit outside and people watch while eating our meal. I recommend oysters always to start each meal.

Very friendly group of staff. Fast, effecient and well spoken English. A langoustine we ordered was off and they changed it for us immediately. Sole we ordered was very well executed. And the fish soup was excellent.

Perfect evening in the village des ostriculteurs with tartare du thon (i needed something else than oysters for a change🤪), tartare de boeuf (with a different touch as we‘re typically used too, give it a try). Finally found and tried delicious couteaux as a starter with a surf&turf finish. Very kind and happy service made the dinner complete. A must in cap-ferret!

Great restaurant with great food. After an 4 hour bike ride from Arcachon to Cap Ferret, we decided to have lunch at this place. It was very crowded given COVID, so we know this place was good. Social distancing was still respected to the best extent. The food we ordered came fairly quickly and were delicious. I ordered a fish (Dorra) pasta. To my surprise, it came with a whole grilled fish and pasta on the side. The fish was done perfectly and the pasta was very light (slightly on the light side perhaps I was so hungry from the biking). Overall I think this place was great.

The restaurant's unique decor adds an interesting touch to its overall appeal.
Wonderful evening here with friends. It was a little quiet when we were there, but had a warm welcoming vibe. The food is superb, and you can buy some of it in the little shop at the front of the restaurant. Same with wine. Go for the pizzas. The Cepes pizza being a stand out dish.

Overpriced for what it is in terms of food quality. For that price, there is much better food, staff and ambiance.
John Legend — Google review
Expensive but very nice. The staff were lovely, the food and drink were great, the restaurant itself was interestingly decorated. A lot of emphasis on "artisanal" products, eg no brand name soft drinks. A good selection of wine, and well made, good quality food. Dog are welcome, a reservation is not necessary as long as they aren't full, and the staff speak a fair amount of English if needed.

I live in England and my local pub serves better and more authentic pizzas than this place. And you don't have to wait for 2 hours for it. Avoid this place. Great staff but cant compensate for below average food and complete lack of organisation.

Nice and cosy Italian place. Yes, pizza is small and the mention it when ordering. It’s thin crust and quite good. Other dishes were nice too. Service was a little slow to start but improved quite quickly. Good option if you don’t eat oysters!
