Mediterranean restaurant
The Mad Turk restaurant offers a delightful dining experience with its grilled kebabs, authentic mezze dishes, and Turkish Cypriot wines. Located in a former bell foundry, the rustic ambiance is enhanced by gnarled wooden beams, open fires, and ancient flagstones. This pub stands out as one of the most charming establishments in the UK and is known for serving exceptional real ale, wine, and food.
Friendly and welcoming staff, good looking place, great service and really nice and tasty food, all in all an excellent taste of Turkish cuisine. Prices are fine.

Booked a table for 8 people at 8pm on a Saturday. Great atmosphere. Fabulous service, wonderful and delicious food. Can't wait to go back. Restaurant was very busy but the staff took it all in their stride with no delays or issues.
Graeme Miller — Google review
Gorgeous food in a great atmosphere. There was 5 of us, and we ordered big Ottoman Feast sharing platters which included starters, mains, and dessert for £38 per person. 2 of us had fish allergies and it was no trouble to replace the calamari with chicken wings. We also ordered a good few beers. Service was fast, but mostly very young college age people who, although polite, perhaps lacked a few life skills to interact. But that's no real criticism as otherwise they were very good. I would highly recommend the Mad Turk.
Steve Webb — Google review
Hideously expensive and certainly NOT worth the £7 hummus. We also shared a platter and it was not that good - one chicken wing, one small salad potato, one gnarly lamb chop. £3 for a flatbread.
Mel Davison — Google review
Fantastic meal at The Mad Turk again and the place is even better with the lovely garden room that has recently been installed, I love the retractable roof. The food was delicious and so flavoursome. I would definitely recommend this to anybody visiting Stamford.

Great food just a little expensive but still loved it like a Turkish Mad man 👞♂️

The food was very tasty and worth the drive from Peterborough. The customer service was also good, with polite staff members. It has a nice ambience with warm outside seating. One thing that we found peculiar, though, was that they put pomegranate in everything, even the tea! We ordered: Harissa Chicken wings (£7.50) The Ottoman Feast Platter for 2 (£38pp)

I was amazed with how beautiful the settings where as we walked into the restaurant at the rear. The food was really nice and I can’t explain how friendly and helpful the staff where. Really made my wife’s birthday a great experience tonight. Absolutely fantastic.
Sanj Rana — Google review
Due to the nature of my job I eat out most weeks and have done for many years. My family tell me that due to this I set the bar way too high when it comes to the restaurants we go to and the food and service they offer. Therefore I'm confident in saying The Mad Turk is the best restaurant I've been to in a long time. If you'll permit me I'll explain: Our children are away on a Scout camp so we were looking for a good restaurant in Stamford. Everyone we asked recommend this restaurant. Therefore I emailed them to request a table for two. They replied that they were fully booked. However we stayed in contact and fortuitously a table became available. From the moment you walk through the door the atmosphere is spot on. We had the pleasure in eating in the conservatory with a retractable roof. The roof was closed last night and they had the patio heaters on. It was a fantastic setting, truly set the mood. Before anything else let's be clear the staff are professional, friendly and knowledgeable and happy to have a chat and a laugh. The place was busy and yet each member of staff made us feel like we were the only people in there. There was no rushing around, we didn't wait long for our food or drinks. This place is exceptional. Truly a step above the rest. Oh the food I haven't mentioned the food. Go and try it yourselves because it will be a life regret if you don't. We had the Ottoman Feast and it was worth every penny. Absolutely awesome place this. Book your table, book it now.

Zada Restaurant is a Turkish eatery that offers a diverse selection of small plates and a comprehensive menu. The restaurant boasts an atmospheric setting with rustic-exotic decor and even features monthly belly dancing performances. Numerous people from both Stamford and Peterborough have spoken highly of Zada, praising its delightful ambiance, attentive service, and most importantly, the delectable cuisine it serves. One standout dish is the lamb, which has received rave reviews even from those who are usually put off by its aroma.
I have heard great things about this restaurant from various people from both Stamford and Peterborough and I have to say they all have been absolutely correct. The lovely atmosphere and service is just a topping for the great food Zada serves - simply my go to place for lamb from today - in fact my wife who normally is put off by the aroma lamb said it was absolutely delicious. Thank you Zada

We went as a group of 30 after an event and there were 3 vegans, including myself. We had a set menu for £29.95 each plus drinks. The three of us were given a shared starter and main course. The food and service were outstanding, and really, there was too much to eat in 1 sitting. The servers were attentive, refilling drinks and making sure everyone was happy. A great place to visit, if you're looking for a great meal out.

Sandra Smith — Google review
Lovely fresh food, though the sizzler was the only dish that I would describe as hot. In the basement it seemed like it was a little stale - not much fresh air and a lot of incense. Despite these minor points, it was a lovely meal and we had a great time.

Awesome place to visit! Food was beyond amazing and the choices were brilliant especially as I'm vegetarian. My other diners selected meat dishes, which were equally amazing. Highly recommended!!!!

The starters and mains recommend by the staff that we had was excellent! Full body of flavour and well balanced! Meats were charred beautifully and not over cooked. It's worth the money and we will certainly be back. Caution, the portions are quite big... So make sure you have the space!

Positive: from the outside the restaurant had a nice atmosphere and looked nice with the decorations. Negatives: I do not normally give awful ratings but honestly we had a very bad experience. We were recommended by friends but I would not come here again or recommend to others. Overall the food was bland, burnt and overpriced. 1. Atmosphere: where we were sat it was very dark to the point we had to use our phone torch to look at the menu. There were a few tables that did this. I asked for some additional lamps/lights but was ignored by the staff. We could not see what we were eating which is never a good sign. The ambience just wasn’t there due to the beaming blue neon light from the bar. You can see how dark it was as I had to use flash to take a picture of the food. 2. Food: we had the Zara Special Menu Feast. Which involved mixed starters and had the mix meat (chicken and lamb). The starter was mediocre which was dips with pitta but the pitta was very thick. The meat was dry and very burnt. The chips were soggy and there was not a lot of flavour. There was a lot of food left on all of our plates. 3. Service: Our drinks were slow and came after our starter. The staff weren’t attentive and ignored our issues. I was originally going to order the bigger platter for two but the waiter said to order separately therefore playing more per person ( we were a table of 3).

Incredible Saturday Night Out at Zada Last night, we decided to check out Zada, and honestly, it was incredible. We were seated in the basement, its been transformed it into this unreal cave setting, complete with some really cool lighting that just creates this amazing atmosphere. The food was genuinely impressive - authentic Turkish dishes that were absolutely delicious. The service was spot on as well; the staff were really friendly and made sure we had a great experience. Definitely an evening I won't be forgetting in a hurry. If you're looking for somewhere with a great vibe and even better food, Zada's the place to go. Highly recommend it!

Amazing meal, had the chicken shish and chips with feta was delicious.. Glad I didn't have a starter as the portion size was large. Had a Turkish coffee that came with a bowl of Turkish delight. Reasonably priced. Very good quick service, lovely polite staff, will deffo go again and recommend to my friends and family....went a few weeks ago,was actually really disappointed, not the same service or meal as previously....was a work meal with a pre booked starter, wasn't informed this was fish and I'm allergic..... evening didnt end well !!!!!!

The Cosy Club is a light and airy British restaurant with quirky bar serving tapas, burgers and gastro dining. The vegan menu is exclusive to the Argo Lounge previously mentioned. The service was great and the food exceeded expectations.
We just popped in on the off chance and SO glad we did. What an amazing quirky place! Food and drinks were fantastic and we ended up visiting twice! PLEASE just pop your head in and have a drink. You wont be disappointed.

Very pretty and spacious. The service was great. I could have done with another slice of toast for my brunch. One small toast, avocado and poached eggs was more like a snack rather than a meal.

I’ve waited a while to post this review as I feel I’m being a bit harsh on some of the food. Overall the experience was really good, the staff were great and everything went smoothly. Buttermilk chicken was more of a breaded chicken escalope. It was perfectly nice, but not really what was expected. The rest of the meals were all nice - overall we were happy.

Disappointing. Chipped teapot, dirty cups, and cutlery (dishwasher probably needs attention), very slow service. Tea came as just hot water! Food was good but under seasoned and very overpriced! Server who took our order was lovely though.

A discovery. A huge space off the main street, hidden in plain sight as they say. Had a wait a few minutes to get a table at lunchtime on a week day, not because of availability of tables, but to offer space to the kitchen to keep up with orders! It's that busy and popular it seems. Service was friendly and the food super tasty. Great decor and light in the space too. Definitely recommended!

Went here for Mother's day with my wife's parents. We arrived first and were shown to the table. Because the in-laws were running late, they looked at the online menu and ordered what they wanted. When the food arrived, the mother's in-laws salad had cheese on it, which she can't eat. The meal was swapped out with the same thing minus the cheese at no extra cost even after we said it was our fault, they even gave us a free refill of drinks. Customer service was one of the best experiences

Noisy cavernous crèche, couldn’t hear myself think with the sound of screaming small children. Service was extremely slow, expect to be repeatedly ignored whilst standing at the bar, clearly not enough staff assigned to serving. The only saving grace is that they serve Hofmeister on draft.

We had part of my daughter’s hen party here, the after event brunch. We had the private room and the venue couldn’t have been nicer about it, especially as we had to make some last minute unavoidable changes to our arrangements. The lady who served us was just lovely (I’m so sorry I can’t remember your name!) and really helped make the whole thing a fabulous experience. They let us decorate the room, the food was great, service brilliant and it really rounded off our weekend nicely. Thank you!!

Came with a group of 9 or so who come fairly regularly on Saturday 9th @ 10:30am. Sat bar side as we had dogs with us and went to order food and drinks. Told no food bar side, only in restaurant as restaurant too “busy” and chef said no. House rules mean dogs need to stay bar side which ordinarily is no issue, the whole place is very pleasant when you’re allowed to order food. Please see attached photo of “busy” restaurant. Member of staff serving behind bar didn’t even apologise. This isn’t the friendly service I expect from Cosy Club & associated businesses like the Lounge brands visited in Corby, Retford & Grantham. We went elsewhere to an independent business and had excellent food with great service. Not going back to any Lounge/Cosy Club brand again if this is what’s now to be expected despite being a frequent customer :(

We were greeted on entry and offered a table straight away. Nice young man with dark hair gave us Amy as our waitress. She promptly arrived full of smiles. She is definitely an asset to the business. Everything you could want in a staff member. Your food and cocktails are outstanding. We will definitely be back again. If I could offer 1 slight negative it would be more lighting in the toilet area. Just keep doing what you are doing, you are all amazing !

The George Hotel of Stamford is an historic coaching inn in the heart of Stamford, England. The hotel features two fantastic restaurants - The Oak Panelled Restaurant and the Garden Room. Free WiFi is available throughout the hotel.
The lovely lady who greeted us today at this establishment was absolutely top class, cheerful, professional and friendly. We arrived early for our afternoon tea and were so well looked after. Nothing is too much trouble here. The food and drink here is quality. I can't wait to visit again soon!! Definitely reccomend.

Had a lovely afternoon tea for 2. Nice selection of sandwiches, cakes and delicious scones. Service was good and they were happy to bring us more jam and cream when asked. It felt it was a little pricey at £32/person but it was a good experience overall

Lovely quirky hotel with loads of character. Deceptively spacious. Well kept and peaceful garden. Large car park. Easy stroll across the park to the town centre. Garden Restaurant food was very good but pricey. Oak Dining Room was very formal. Room comfortable - no lift and no tea making facilities ! Would definitely revisit to explore Stamford and surrounding area. Lots to see and do.

Another excellent 3 night stay at my favourite hotel in the UK!!)) Received an upgrade which was an expected bonus and the breakfasts and dinners in the Garden Room were up at the usual high standard if quality, speed of service and attentive friendly staff. Attentive friendly staff us the key USP of the George from the welcoming doorman, reception staff, bar and restaurant staff and not forgetting the housekeeping staff!!)) I will be back soon ))

We knew we were going to have an amazing experience here as soon as we walked through the door. The staff greeted us with a big smile and immediately asked if we needed any help and made us feel very welcome. We had booked a room for our Nans 90th birthday meal. And the incredible experience continued. Our server was kind attentive and always eager to please. The food was incredible which was a set menu. And having a look around the venue it looked amazing. I would happily come here again and recommend anyone to come here as we all had an incredible experience.

Absolutely stunning rooms, good service and lovely location. I don't know if it's cost worthy though as I was lucky enough to not pay the bill! But our was just incredible really, great bed, big bathroom with a stunning bath. Lovely outside area, very nice!

I had been to The George for lunch in the summer and was very impressed with the quality, presentation and taste of the meal. Pete and I decided to treat his mum and dad to lunch on Christmas Eve. Our table for four was beautiful in The Oak Room and we were served by superb staff who took care that we had everything we needed. The starters and amuse-bouche were delicious and perfect in size, the main courses were perfectly cooked and presented (my lattice salmon with caviar was heaven) and the desserts finished the meal perfectly. I am not keen on ice-cream and requested clotted cream…. It came with a smile, nothing was too much trouble. My in-laws really enjoyed the meal and was a perfect present for their Christmas 2022. Thank you to the staff who made our lunch so memorable.

An absolute must place to visit, experience ht wonderful multitude of ambiances that The George Hotel not only offer, but provide you with the best accommodation in all of Stamford, so you don't have to go home, simple as that. We visited the hotel for a meal myself partner and 6 year old grandson the food was delicious we had a starter and main and wanted 10 minutes before having a dessert so my partner asked would it be ok to go into the garden for a bit of air we would then order a dessert the waiter said yes that’s fine but asked me to leave my handbag just in case we ran off without paying our bill the waiter said I’m sure you won’t but still can you leave your bag my partner gave him is phone which was a 2 grand phone my partner said to the waiter I’ve never been so insulted but he still took the phone we was gone 5 minutes come in and ordered dessert the waiter had left the phone on our table now apart from this I couldn’t fault anything but it did dampen the night I felt very disappointed that they thought we might leave without paying left me wondering what sort of people they have in the George

Oak room lunch Bread was very hard I was told, not enough butter. King prawn Tempura would have been nicer taken out of the shell and head. All mains very good Sherry trifle, not enough cream layer way to much fruit sponge. Excellent service, but it should be on a £500 lunch in a grand old restaurant. Round table moved away from the wall so the staff could reach each customer better" 8/10 enjoyed it thanks

We had our Christmas Dinner in the Garden Room. The service was a bit slow to begin with but was fine once they had taken our order. We had a variety of starters. I had the French soup and was pleased that I did, as some of the other starters were quite large. The soup was flavoursome but not overly spicy or hot. Again we had a good variety of mains. The burgers were truly large but I had the haddock and chips. The fish was well cooked and served with what seems to be a homemade tartar sauce. The chips were the semi chunky type and were lovely.

What a nice way to have breakfast. Having driven through Stamford a number of times, I have always wanted to visit The George Hotel. Beautiful Rutland building on the high street. Arranged to meet a colleague for a meeting and enjoyed their breakfast. £29 each and order what you want, toast, main meal, teas and coffee. Setting both outside and in was beautiful and service impeccable. Not something I can afford to do every day but as a special treat it is highly recommended.

We had a 3 course lunch paid for by our friends. It was really relaxed, comfortable & homely. We chatted & caught up for hours & were never disturbed or pushed on. I Highly recommend it for all sorts of gets together. Staff were very attentive & friendly but not over bearing.

Popped in for a quick pint after taking the dog for a walk. We were welcomed (dog and baby and all) into the gorgeous, period bar at the George and were served by a guy called Luther. Luther really knows his bar, and he really knows his beers. His service was great and he’s a credit to the establishment. Have only been to the bar but the place has been recommended by friends more generally - if the bar is anything to go by the rest of the place is probably great too.

It’s a lovely building, but the service we had a pretty poor really. Only came for drinks, bar staff were pretty rude to be honest. Ordered a Guinness which was pulled straight through, no resting. Surprised Guinness allow them to serve it! Seems unless you act like a pompous snob you are treated like dirt here. Wouldn’t recommend if you want a decent pint without being sneered at.

We lunch in the courtyard to celebrate Mum's birthday. The food was delicious and the setting was perfect but what really made our day was the fantastic service. Everybody we encountered went above and beyond and we felt well and truly looked after. Carlo was especially kind to Mum, thank you!

My wife and I had a special Valentine’s dinner at the George last month. The service was excellent and the ambience of the small dining room was very good. However, the food was very poor. The seasoning and the flavours were very weak, and every course was disappointing. It was extremely expensive, but certainly not worth the money. I had wanted to visit The George for many years, and I was left with a very bad impression. I really can’t understand why it was fully booked(and in fact oversubscribed). Won’t be going again unless there is a new chef.
Michael Lavelle — Google review
Visit to the george garden room with family as we do on a regular occasions only the last 2 visits since last summer were of very poor service standards waiting between courses 30 to 45 minutes staff seem very inexperienced know one asking us how we liked our food finished plates were just left uncollected when coffee was served. again we had to wait 40 minutes for that and it was cold not one member of staff thanked us on leaving the restaurant which I found appalling garden room manager not to our liking didn't really have much idea about customer service. However food very good but very expensive especially starter menu considering the poor service we experienced.

Classic, wonderful hotel in the middle of one of the most beautiful towns in the country. We live just around the corner so we haven't stayed but we so enjoy visiting for breakfast and coffee in the lounge. It's unique and that's part of its charm. 100% different from the modern cookie cutter hotels built these days. Try the breakfast - you won't be disappointed.

As coaching hotels go, you will not find one more true to its' history. The exposed beams, the wooden grand staircase, the reception hall all add to it's immense character. The rooms are equally unique and grand, with sumptuous and luxurious furniture adding to their charm. As for the food, it is exceptional and very flavourable. Whether it's the breakfast, dinner or the high tea; you'll enjoy every morsel

Tobie Norris is a 13th century pub in Stamford, England with a traditional feel and cosy atmosphere. The pub serves local produce and has a copious oak beams and stone walls. The service was okay, with tasty chips as the main attraction.
Had a fab Sunday roast. Our waitress, Penny was amazing and was telling us some stories about the building. It’s so gorgeous inside, like stepping back in time. Would definitely love to return when I’m next in the area.

Table booked for 3 pm on a Saturday afternoon. The service was very slow, with the starter coming out 1 hour after we arrived. The upside is the food is excellent t and well worth waiting for. If the service had been better, it certainly would have been 5 stars.

Building: +5 points. A beautiful building, nicely opened up to be enjoyed by the public, beautifully decorated with lots of portraits, railway signage and other historical memorabilia. Service: +2 points. Pleasant enough, but card only is annoying. Food: -5 points. Overcooked battered fish, a parmigiana that was devoid of chicken, a pizza that was super-salty with a neither here-nor-there base. Booze: -1 point. Strangely modest range of beer and cider, modest range of wines. Dogs: +1 (if you like dogs) - dogs allowed in the building, but are a tripping and spilling hazard when it’s busy, and not great if it’s wet (smell) or you’re allergic (sniff/wheeze).

OMG! If you only go out for Sunday lunch once this year, go here. Absolutely fabulous food, very traditional home cooked. Great choice of meats, some starters you don't see on many menus and desserts to die for. Just be prepared to lose your trousers and sleep all afternoon!! Excellent location, brilliant friendly staff with great choice of real ales, gins and cider. Loved it and will be going back once I can shift the weight! 🤔😁 The shared whole chicken with seasonal veg was particularly gorgeous and the shared dipping chocolate plateau for dessert, Mmm, Mmm, Mmm. Dogs very welcome.

Fabulous historic building close to Stamford Endowed School. Rambling series of rooms with feature beams, rising up two floors. Very popular, good choice of real ales and wines, in line with general Stamford prices. If looking for food (which is very good), booking is advised.

Really nice atmosphere in this pub, that is obviously popular with clientele of all ages. It was a busy Thursday evening when we visited. We recommend booking a table for food, although we were able to be seated without booking. However, the choice of tables was limited. The food was served in about 40 mins, but understandable because it was a very busy evening! Food was delicious, and we all enjoyed our meals.

Wow, what a find! Stumbled across this place & really recommend it. Friendly, helpful staff, food was absolutely amazing - tasted delicious, well presented & generous portions! We had the featherblade beef & game pie - both excellent. The puddings looked delicious too but unfortunately we were too full. We will be back to sample them too. This is our new favourite restaurant in Stamford.

Myself, my husband and our 4 children were staying locally and happened to see this place on google. They were fully booked online bookings but when I contacted them directly they made space for us for a 6pm booking. The staff could not have been more accommodating. The service was incredible and the food just phenomenal!

Amazing place, lovely staff and fantastic food and beer. The children’s portions are as big as most adult meals. A really lovely experience, thank you for squeezing us in on a very busy Wednesday night! It was crazy busy for a week day. Can’t fault this place. Possibly the most atmospheric pub in Stamford and that’s saying something as there are some gems in town. Great beer selection, the service is always friendly and the pizza has been really good when we’ve eaten there. Kids approved of the fish and chips! Highly recommend.

Utterly beautiful pub from 1280 with 3 floors of deliteful architecture. Food was awesome and a great selection of ales. The best part is the staff, extremely friendly and efficient. When we were there my mother in law became poorly and the staff couldn't have been more thoughtful and caring. The pub is child and dog friendly as well. Highly recommended.

A great place for meeting with family and friends. The food is top notch and well presented, you wont be dissapointed. I visited the Tobie Norris for the first time on Monday 29 January 2024. What a stunning, old building it is, beautifully restored with seating on three floors. Mind the steep stairs though! Very friendly service from the young lady behind the bar on the ground floor and from the two waiters, who brought our food to the table on the second floor. Usually they offer table service, where you can order food and drinks at the table but, on the night we visited, they were short-staffed and we had to order our food and drinks at the bar. No problem for us as the place was fairly quiet and the stairs weren't an issue. We had three different pizzas and three different desserts and everything was absolutely delicious. I will definitely go back and I would definitely recommend.

Such an excellent pub. A great atmosphere and is exactly how a pub should be. There's a fantastic selection of drinks and service is swift and everyone was incredibly helpful. We didn't eat, but I did read through the menu and there are a wide variety of delicious sounding things. Dog friendly too, which is brilliant. Very highly recommended.
