Restaurant
Mirador de La Peña, an architectural masterpiece by Manrique in El Hierro, offers breathtaking views and a stylish atmosphere. The drinks are reportedly overpriced and not the best, but enjoying a drink here is still a nice experience. The restaurant serves decent food for lunch; however, it could benefit from better menu options and a proper chef. Despite this, the space's design and view make for a unique visit that should not be missed.
We took a coffee break there while we were hiking. The service was attentive and good, the prices were okay for a tourist place. The toilet facility was very clean. The view from the terrace is wonderful - it's worth it!

Beautiful place definitely worth a visit. Views are amazing and the food was really tasty. We had a local fish, chicken and traditional goat stew, all decent. Cheesecake and a coffee was a nice addition. The only thing we didn’t like was a house wine. We didn’t want to order a whole bottle so decided to try glass of white and red and it was horrible.

Breathtaking views from this point of the island. Coffee was good and together with the view its a great experience. We just took coffee here, so I can't say anything about the food, although staff didn't felt so welcoming. There is space to park your car, but it gets full on peak hours. Keep in mind that you can enjoy the views from outside of the restaurant, so no need to spend any money to enjoy the views.

The Mirador is amazing, of course...Cesar Manrique designed it, the views are gorgeous, really stunning. After trying to have lunch in several suggested places by local people which were closed during Xmas holidays, we were hungry after the hikes so we decided to give a try to this tourist place, hoping that Km0 policy would allow us to have a taste of El Hierro. We knew it would have been overpriced, didn't expect so much overpriced for the quality of the food and service (slow and not willing to give you any explanation about the ingredients, only if asked they would tell you something, the minimum). Temperature of the white wine not ok, after the right time in the glaciette it became ok, but it was much after the selection of cheese was brought and finished. The soup "huevo a la herreña" not ok the presentation, not ok the seasoning, not ok the potatoes, we tried to gently give our feedback, but the answer was that taste is personal, it may be true, but the quality of the ingredients it's not personal neather the seasoning. The lamb was average and the fried goat was very dry and difficult to find meat only fat, the potatoes also very dry and not seasoned. We diligently compiled the feedback sheet they gave us, hoping it will help to improve the standard of a place that deserves better, until this switch doesn't happen, my humble suggestion is to enjoy this place for the main reason it exists: the view, have a coffee in the terrace to enjoy more the stunning view, but don't pay so much for such a low way to respect the products.

You will find La Peña viewpoint in Guarazoca in the north of the island of El Hierro. From the viewpoint, you can also see the Salmor Rocks. The viewpoint was designed by the Canary Islands architect - César Manrique. There is a restaurant there, but I just stop by for coffee and really great views. The island is small, so make sure this point is on your list.

Great location. A Friday evening all tables had reserved signs. They gave us a table. Waited about 10 minutes for a drink order after being given the menu's. 2 waiting staff on duty. 4 tables having coffee. Ordered our meal croquet and Lapis to start . lapis over cooked. Friend had the baby goat so over cooked, had to pick it up to eat it. I had ordered the chicken breast and mushroom sauce. Was coated in some form of flavoured crumb. Looked like it was bought in. Very dry and chewy. Hard to cut even though the knives were sharp. Fries look warm and the veg was cold. Cost nearly 80e for 2 people. With 2 beers. When I paid and said the meal was bad. Waitress gave a surprised look. No apology gave me my change and a service card which I scored accordingly. Amazing space and views. No customers in the premises when we left at around 8.30pm Friday evening. Avoid at all costs I have over 20 years experience in catering. I live in the canaries andh have had better meals in cafes at a fraction of the cost If back in El Hierro would not visit this place ever again.

View is indeed amazing. Don’t eat there. The food… made us laugh so hard when it arrived… I don’t recall eating anything as awful in a very long time. All in all it was funny but that fish was simply threatening. The croquettes tasted sort of rancid. 58€ for one starter and two mains with sparkling water. Do yourself a favour and get a drink (maybe a pastry - this can’t be dangerous) and enjoy the view, especially the sunset.

The right weather at the right time of day would offer you wonderful views. Even on a bad day, it's worth it just to admire yet another of César Manrique's magnificent earthy architecture. We didn't get a chance to try the restaurant so I can't say anything about it.

Designed by Manrique, this one the not so many, beautiful pieces of architecture of El Hierro. Breathtaking views and enjoying here a drink is just heaven on earth. Even if the drinks are slightly over-priced and not the best. Still having a drink was a very nice experience. The place is stylish and clean, we worked from here one afternoon and had some food for lunch, which was good, decent, not bad, not good. This place would deserve a better menu and a proper chef considering all the space, view and design that it offers - it's a pity they didn't invest more in their drinks and gastronomic experience and capitalize only on the building and view. So, not necessarily recommend for dining, but definitely visit it and enjoy the view.

Museums
The Ecomuseum of Guinea is a stunning cultural and natural attraction that showcases the development and lifestyle of the island's inhabitants over time, integrating beautifully with its surroundings. While visitors may appreciate how people rediscovered essential tools for survival, there are concerns about inadequate guidance, particularly in English. Despite this setback, it remains an intriguing site to explore and learn more about if you're curious about history and culture.
Wow! What an amazing museum... in fact 3 museums: Lava tube, El Hierro lizards and the old Bimbanche village. All of them are very interesting, I spent more than 2 hours here. Probably the best museum of El Hierro! You should see it!
Bogdan E. — Google review
Beautiful historical landmark. The houses themselves added to the natural landscape offer a good reason to visit this place. It's interesting to see how this island developed and lived during the period that it has been populated, how people seemed to have rediscovered tools and utilities necessary for living. Only remark would be the guiding. We paid a tourist price and yet there's not guiding in english, not even a slightly attention to trying to make it slower in spanish or at least trying to explain a bit in english, the basics. So, it seemed we could have as easily do the tour on our own with a printed paper in english. We were a group of 5 tourists, there should be some english offer. Otherwise, the place is worth the time if it's something you're curious about.

Nice village with interesting insights. We booked the entrance to the village and a tour through the little cavelike tunnel and to the lizards. Unfortunately the guide of the group only spoke spanish and because of this, 5 of the 9 people of the group (including us) didn't understand anything.

A very stunning museum! We really liked the old village and the lagarto gantes terrarium. Sadly the guided tour was only in spanish and we were not able to understand a single word. But the tour guide was very friendly and came to us a couple of times to explain some facts in English as well.

The Volcanological Interpretation Center is a must-visit for those interested in the volcanic history of the Canary Islands. The museum offers a wealth of information on vulcanology, including details about the last underwater eruption near El Hierro. Visitors can explore interactive displays and watch a film that provides insight into the most recent underwater eruption, making it an educational and engaging experience for all.
In every Interpretation Center here in El Hierro the personnel are so nice, so attentive, so kind, so welcoming, so willing to help you have the best experience on the island! Sergio was so nice and accurate with us!
Martina Arghirò Andriotis — Google review
Very informative museum. I liked the interactive displays and the film about the most recent underwater eruption.
Jackie Sewell — Google review
We visited the Volcanological Interpretation Center today. We loved the exposition and the enlightening explation of the Island's birth and geolocical facets of and faces of the vulcanic activities in the past. Beautifully done, loved the 'lava garden' and the path through it, that was created. Also very fascinating to see the documentation and video show of the birth of the latest volcano off the shore of Restinga (still just below sea level, but who knows how long that will stay like that?!) :-) We had obtained a museum passport for the island, and this was the second highlight of the four we ticked off to date.
Katelijn Eppink — Google review
Very interesting particularly if you take the time to read the panels in the first building (QR translations in English and German). The exterior path could do with a lot more explanations particularly for those of us that are not geologists! Second building deals primarily with eruptions in 2011/12..some interesting videos. Although a shame that the archeological/architectural elements are not better exposed.

Very disappointing visit for such an interesting topic. Many screens didn’t work and the amount of information was appalling. Can’t recommend.

Stan van Laarhoven — Google review
Probably the worst museum I've ever been to. First of all: the topic of El Hierro's vulcanic history and the recent eruptions of canary islands is highly interesting and I was really excited to get some deeper insights when I arrived at the museum. Unfortunately, I left fully disappointed: - There are only two rather small rooms - Many things are broken (e.g. several beamers) - Many objects are completely contextless and uncommented, like pictures of a church (?!) - Translations (German/English) are often incomplete (Spanish sentences) or wrong (sentences do not make sense) - The beamers are gesture-controlled by waving with your hands which is a nice idea to make the experience more interactive but poorly implemented. You have to navigate back and forth a lot and in the end it's just uniteractive text blocks - Interformation often redundant (e.g. the exact same map is exhibited twice) without really explaining the big picture - According to older reviews the museum used to be free but nowerdays they charge you an entry fee of approximately 5€ per adult - Whilst El Hierro pretends to be a highly sustainable island using reneweable energy souces, this museum is wasting a lot of electricity, produced by a stinky diesel engine in the backyard

Restaurante El Refugio is a concealed yet delightful eatery that offers a diverse selection of dishes. They intentionally sought out alternatives to fish and were not disappointed with the menu options. The house salad was exceptional, as well as the creatively seasoned gofio and fried cheese from El Hierro. The staff is friendly and attentive, while the prices are reasonable. This restaurant comes highly recommended, although it should be noted that they close early at 7:15 p.m.
Waited over an hour for a table but it was worth it. The fish platter was amazing! Fresh and tasty. Local wine also really good. Service pleasant

The local shrimps and Red Sea bream were fresh and delicious, although too much garlic was used for the fish. I order a glass of wine and it was barely 100 ml. The dessert was a bit disappointing.
SolorToursBarcelona — Google review
A hidden, but very nice restaurant that has a variety of dishes on the menu. We deliberately looked for alternatives to fish on the day of the visit and were not disappointed. The house salad was terrific, as was the ingeniously spiced gofio and the fried cheese from El Hierro. The staff is kind and attentive, the prices are fair. 100% recommended! Note: closing time at 7.15 p.m., therefore not suitable for a late dinner.

Restaurant
La Tafena is an eatery in El Hierro's capital, Valverde, offering a diverse menu featuring fresh cuisine and local ingredients. Patrons are left speechless by the delectable milhojas de berenjenas (eggplant pastry), distinctively flavored bacalao (cod), and luscious maracuya pie for dessert. The amiable and hospitable staff greatly contributes to the overall experience.
Possibly the best food I've had in the Canary Islands. Each dish was prepared with attention to detail and incredible sauces. The ingredients were fresh, and the meat was perfectly cooked. The service was also outstanding, both attentive and kind. The only thing I didn't love was that the covid signs and distancing notices were still posted. It's not an issue at all, but the only bad thing I can say. I probably will never visit El Hierro again, but I would recommend anyone going to eat here!

Delicious food! Recommend that you make a reservation ahead of time, as there are not many tables.
Bridget Rennard — Google review
Terrible service. I called them the day before, and noone responded. I went on the day at 15:20, they told me it’s full house. I asked that it’s my last day and i really wanted to try their food; they didn’t accept me to eat at the bar which was empty. There was a table half empty who finished their food, I offered to ask them if I could eat at their table, they said they wouldn’t allow me to ask them. Someone left at that moment, then they said kitchen is closed. It was before 15:30. Too many excuses to not accept someone and being guardians more than anything. If you’re so in spite of customers, why did you open a restaurant?!?

Restaurant
La Mirada Profunda Restaurant, situated in Valverde, boasts a sophisticated decor adorned with violet walls. Instead of a traditional menu, the chef personally presents the offerings in English due to their fluency. Patrons rave about the exquisitely tender octopus that requires little effort to cut. Additionally, the baby squid, roast pork, and stuffed courgette are equally delectable.
Food is absolutely delicious, the Chef is a real artist. He also came out from the kitchen himself to tell us what's available on the menu and advised on wine selection to pair with the food. The only minus? Warm bread come with commercial butter in a little plastic box. It feels cheap and completely out of place, make some homemade butter please.

Small place in the main road of Valverde. Perfect ambient for a quiet dinner, low lights and soft music. Very kind service. Small menu but has a good variety. Our bill was 70€ for two with a bottle of a local white dry wine (Uwe) and a dessert. It lacks of a good view or a terrace. It's a closed place.
Ángel L. García-Galán Sabina — Google review
No menu, but the cook came from his kitchen to relate the menu, in English, as his English is better than our Spanish. The octopus was the most tender we ever had, it hardly needed cutting, just pushing the knife on was enough. Baby squid, roast pork and stuffed courgette were also delicious. Service was friendly and attentive.

Arriving at Casa Goyo on a chilly, damp day, the hope for a comforting bowl of soup was quickly extinguished as they surprisingly didn't offer any soups. This was unexpected considering the area's reputation for its cold and foggy climate. The food at Casa Goyo is satisfactory, although not exceptional. One dish to avoid is their pricey calamares, which only consisted of a few rings accompanied by chips and salad. Limited options prompted the consideration of trying the neighboring restaurant instead.
Very friendly staff! Small but good menu. Prices like everywhere. Good food!
Richard Borgström — Google review
Simple local place with very good food. The menu is not extensive, but offering enough options to choose from. We had the chickpeas, the Casa Goyo salad, the chicken croquetas and the filled chicken which was very similar to a cordon bleu. All was very tasty, but the filled chicken stood out and was so delicious. Delicious enough to order a second plate. The chickpeas seemed a bit undercooked, but the sauce was very flavourful and tasty. The service was disappointing. We were 3 people alone in a room, requested a table that wasn't in the way and further from the wine of the door, but they explained those tables are in case 5pax come and then 2 people came in and they sat them there. Quite a strange situation and not very helpful. But regardless of this, the dinner was simple, but delightful, and the prices are more than affordable. Recommended for a local experience.

We came here cold and wet after a hike, and I was looking forward to a hot bowl of soup or something, but amazingly, they don't do soups at all! Shocking, considering this area is noted for its cold, foggy and damp climate. The food is fine, nothing great but pleasant enough. Don't order the calamares as they are expensive. Just a few rings augmented by chips and salad. We ordered this because there weren't many options for us. There's another restaurant next door - perhaps we ought to have tried that one.
