Fine dining restaurant
British restaurant
L'Enclume is a small, fine dining restaurant situated in the countryside of the Lake District. The menu features locally sourced and seasonally inspired dishes, many of which are created individually to fit each diner's taste. The wine list is carefully curated to complement the flavors on offer.
Absolutely wonderful! The hype is real. We had the 8 course lunch taster with the wine flight. The Berkswell (?) Pudding was a firm favourite, and the staff were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. Obviously it isn't the cheapest place, but you get what you pay for (and more!)

With three Michelin stars you would expect the food to be sensational and it certainly did not disappoint. Every course was an adventure, making the most of fresh, local, seasonal ingredients to produce flavours and textures that were inventive but never 'weird'. Similarly the presentation was stylish and creative without being pretentious. We had the signature wine pairing and it was sensational, the wines not only complementing the food but contributing to the taste as if part of it. The building, the decor, furniture, crockery and cutlery are, like the food, elegant in a simple and understated way - smart and comfortable with lots of personality. The service was exemplary and the young staff are exceptional - friendly, professional, highly knowledgeable and clearly passionate about what they do. An unforgettable experience.

Stunning food. New levels of flavour I didn't even know were possible. Perfect service, both from the serving team and the somellier, who delivered a succession of perfect wine pairings (signature wine flight) and gave real insight into the wine itself and how it complimented the food. Faultless, from start to finish and a memorable and worthy celebration of my son's 21st birthday. 3 hours of gastronomic indulgence with such minute attention to detail. Thanks to the L'Enclume team for the perfect lunch.

We tried the lunch menu as a treat for my wife’s birthday. Wow is all I can say, everything is thought about and delivered in meticulous detail. We will definitely going back for the full evening dinner experience. By far the best restaurant we’ve been too.

Even among its peers, this is outstanding. We have been twice and are already planning to return. It’s a 14 course tasting menu. Every dish is expertly crafted. The joy of food like this is huge array of tastes. Nothing bland. To get the most my advice is… do not list things you don’t like. Open your heart to all the possibilities. I’m not a big fan of cucumber, but I’d eat it all day if I could work their magic on it. We had the middle wine pairing. It’s very good and I liked the variety. A bit too much white for me but very interesting. The service is very attentive. The staff are clearly very well trained but not aloof or snobby. This really is an 11 out of 10 experience.

Absolutely brilliant food, in a bustling, efficient and comfortable setting. Staff showed us the kitchen, explained it's mechanics and professionally and capably delivered us wonderfully tasty and visual courses, with a delightful wine pairing. Pricey, but you get what you pay for.

I don’t know how anyone could give L’Enclume less than 5 stars. I had high expectations of course however, every single part of this experience was above and beyond. The food is outstanding, but the staff were even better. The service is the best I’ve ever experienced. Every single staff member I interacted with was exceptional. Most of all we had fun! Congratulations! L’Enclume deserve their number one spot amongst UK restaurants.

Simply amazing !!! The place is on another level, the attention to detail is perfect. I highly recommend going, and we stayed in one of the rooms which was beautiful. Words simply can't describe how good it is. The staff make you feel welcomed and at home, with amazing service

"L'Enclume" is a fantastic restaurant located in the Lake District, England. Its name, derived from "anvil," reflects its commitment to craftsmanship. The food here is not only delicious but also presented beautifully. The chefs employ a unique fusion approach, blending local ingredients with international flavors. Each dish is a masterpiece, and the service is exceptional. If you're looking for a culinary adventure, L'Enclume is a must-visit destination.

Unbelievable experience! Far exceeded our already high expectations. Best food and dining experience by a country mile. We had the 14-course tasting menu for lunch with a cheese course thrown in for good measure and the wine tasting flight. They‘ve clearly put an incredible amount of thought into the menu, provenance/sustainability of ingredients, and blend of flavours. Every single thing we ate was absolutely delicious. Whilst I wouldn’t ordinarily choose a number of the wines to drink by themselves, the pairings were intelligent and complementary. The team of service staff are young, friendly, enthusiastic and knowledgeable. They were professional and showed wonderful attention to detail, yet approachable and chatty. They brought together the whole afternoon. 4.5 hours after arriving, the 4 of us walked out grinning cheek-to-cheek. Thank you so much.

Very lucky to have been able to dine here for a 2nd time, now after their 3rd star awarded. It still impressed! The food is exceptional - genuinely every bite something to experience and savour. The wine flights seemed a little less generous than our previous visit but still a great pairing for the food. The service - for us - was good, professional yet relaxed. We booked a stay and dine package and while annoying they didn’t honour the originally booked price, hopefully this translates to the staff being paid a decent wage. They work some serious hours!
John Kapantais — Google review
Without doubt one of the best experiences of my life. I have never had and will never have so many beautifully crafted dishes, paired perfectly with the wine flight. The highs just kept coming. I've never had food like it, provoking both thought and emotion, unforgettable.
Bradley Higginson — Google review
We had lunch on a weekday and arrived early as we weren't too sure we could rely on the local taxis (as it turned out, nothing to worry about!) - we were greeted by Graham, who couldn't have been warmer and more charming. It was great watching such a professional service team work in such harmony - absolutely everything was taken care of, so smoothly and we really felt at home. Some of the other reviews seem to criticize the price. Yes, it's incredibly expensive and there's no way around that... but I think it's important to remember that you're not simply paying for a meal - you are paying for decades of passion, failure, creativity and learning. This is the best restaurant in England for a reason, and you have to accept that a 3rd Michelin Star is a licence for a restaurant to name their price. It's often the reward for a lifetime of sacrifice. Yes it stung, but my lord what an experience. Favourite part? A tiny baked loaf that came with a beef dish - glazed with beef fat, it transported me to a childhood moment sharing Bread & Dripping with my grandmother and genuinely moved me to tears. Money can't buy that... It's art. When we've sold a couple of kidneys we'll be back! <3

My husband and I spent the night in one of the rooms offered by L’Enclume and had dinner at the restaurant. The entire experience was outstanding. The room was comfortable and well appointed. The meal was out of this world and the staff at both the lodgings and the restaurant were amazing. A very special experience in a beautiful setting.

An amazing experience ,15 course tasting menu is phenomenal....words can't describe how exquisite! The Berkswell pudding is out of this world and the frozen Tunworth cheese/malt crumb dessert is se sensational. A super special evening with the highest recommendation

Incredible experience going for the 15 course tasting menu and fortunate enough to be able to experience the Chefs table. Really special, packed full of flavour and some outstanding dishes with really relaxed, enjoyable atmosphere for a fine dining experience led by Head Chef Joris. Really memorable experience to celebrate special occasion, would recommend!
Andrew — Google review
Amazing food of course but what makes L'Enclume so special is all the staff every one of them. The ambience is relaxed inviting and not what you would expect. It is the opposite of 'stuffy'. Special praise tonight goes to Dora the new sommelier. Three weeks into her new job and she knew every dish and wine pairing. Amazing. Well done.
adrian denham — Google review
A milestone birthday treat and the whole experience was very special. The service was faultless and friendly from checking in to our room at L'Enclume House to leaving after breakfast at Rogan & Co. Very relaxed atmosphere added to our enjoyment . Not at all stuffy. As for the food - two words - epic and sublime. Each course a work of art, immaculately presented with such an array of textures and tastes. And as one would hope... memorable. We also loved the way breakfast was served the following morning. No menu but an array of tasty things delivered to our table - best described as a breakfast picnic with hit and cold dishes. The final touch was freshly made cranberry cookies in a bag to take away with us.

I've never had a 3* dining experience before and this completely blew me away. Everything was beyond my expectations; depth of flavours, variety of dishes, presentation, service, welcome, knowledge of the food, surroundings, wines and the understated dining environment. The visit to the kitchen was a particular treat which I wasn't expecting. My partner and I spent 4 and a half hours here and every moment was a sensory treat.
Carole Kendall — Google review
I don’t usually leave reviews, but I had the unparalleled joy of a table last Friday. From the moment our party of four entered we were greeted by a series of welcoming and exceptionally attentive staff. We were seated by the assistant manager, awaiting the theatre- like production that is their dinner service. Everything from the synchronicity of serving the plate to each waiter’s individual knowledge of the 15 course menu was nothing short of exceptional. We went for my daughter’s 18th, and the incredible Tom N helped to assemble the whole kitchen so she could have a photo with them. I don’t think it is fair that L’Enclume is restrained to the confines of a 5* Google review, as they are sublime in every sense of the word.
Matilda Young — Google review
Eighth wonder of the world in terms of experience, the history of each plate, its provenance from it's creation, the delivery of its service, was far beyond what I'd expected. Even at the £250 per person its one of those experiences that you are happy to pay for, if like me andyou like your food. The creativity of each dish with the backstory and effort gone into it should be put in little booklets so I can take that history home with me, I want to say I can remember each and every story but I can't I was that overawed with the whole experience. What a fantastic team , fantastic cooks and a big thank you for letting us watch your art as you painted it on the plate. True masters of your profession and the craft you displayed. The servers deliver that passion with the food repeatedly.

Didn’t stay at L’enclume but should imagine it’s great if the restaurant is anything to go by. Was a few years back now but I remember it well because it was so special. This place is somewhat of a pilgrimage for UK foodies, and if you haven’t been yet, you must! Incredible taster menu lost count of the courses… maybe like 16 or something? Every single one was a delight! The service was unrivalled, organised with military precision, superb professionalism. Scottish guy who dished out the caviar was particularly brilliant! The sommelier was about 12 lol! (Okay maybe 20?) and was incredibly knowledgeable, recommended some nice Bourbons for me. Vibes in there, such a quiet, peaceful dining room, smallish and full but somehow remained intimate. I loved every minute of it. The wine was amazing, they even had cigars, which I was tempted by but smoking a whopping robusto can take more time than we had. Also… I mean, I could go on about the various clever dishes, the rhubarb and beetroot dessert the meaty chicken of the woods course, the seafood macroon… etc… etc… but one of the most memorable was a bread & butter in-between course. Well actually bread and dripping, freshly made that day. Stunning. What a place!

Excellent tasting menu, flawless service. Whether you’re new to tasting menus, or working your way through the many Michelin started ones, L’enclume will blow you away. They consider it 17 courses, though do note 3 are snacks, and 1 is a side. Parking at the race course is easy, and a very short and pleasant walk through the village (even in December!) Particular highlights included a seaweed custard, and a frozen cheese. The food was novel and thought was always given to where they were sourcing their ingredients from. We even got a recommendation for a local butcher, which was very welcome! The staff were knowledgeable and happy to answer any and every question we had. The restaurant itself is beautiful, and the place setting was fantastic. The hand forged cutlery was both fitting and sensitive to the history of the building. The only flaw was that the lamb was a bit disappointing. It’s presented to guests as the star of the show, so we were expecting something incredible. In reality, it was actually slightly lacking in flavour and the cuts both me and my husband received were mostly fat. Unfortunately, this is where L’enclume become a victim of their own success. Expectations were high (as is the price tag) so you do expect every dish to be perfect. For us, this didn’t quite hit the mark. Overall though, a brilliant restaurant that I would highly recommend to anyone. The staff take perfect care of you, and nothing is too much trouble.

I first remember hearing about L'enclume and Simon Rogan about a decade ago. At the time I remember him being one of the early English adopters of the then new Scandi style. Noma type locality and seasonality. Lots of pickles, tiny courses, foraging etc. There are still hints of that but eating the 15 courses feels like something much more British and original. A style of its own. A style much imitated itself. In fact, having now eaten there, I've realised many of the courses I've had at much worse restaurants have been pale imitations of some of the courses here. My wife and I had the 15 courses that everyone gets. There are seasonal changes, and most of the ingredients are picked daily from their own farm so repeat visits are recommended. My wife had the matching wines and I had a gewurtztraminer that I asked to pour myself. I won't go into detail, but if this sounds like something you'd like then it was as close to perfect as something in hospitality could possibly be. At one point I was eating a food of a very delicious and British style, looking out at a sunny English garden with a view of a priory church behind and I felt quite proud to be English. Especially with a very impressed French man at the next table. He even seemed impressed by the cheese course that my wife also had. The service is incredible. Friendly, efficient and not at all formal or intimidating. We paid £760 Theoretically, if you went as a couple, had a £60 bottle of wine between you and a couple of £5 coffees with the petit fours you could do it for about £630. Extremely expensive but by the end of a luxurious experience, felt strangely cheap.

Located in the picturesque Lake District National Park, The Pheasant Inn is a charming 17th-century inn run by a local couple. It offers a warm and unpretentious atmosphere, serving classic comfort food and local guest beers. Visitors have praised the friendly staff who provide excellent service and explain the specials on offer. The food, including dishes like lamb shoulder and fillet steak, is perfectly cooked and enjoyable. Guests also recommend trying the delicious fruit crumble with custard for dessert.
Clearly a popular venue, we received a warm welcome at the Pheasant, where we had reserved a table for Sunday lunch. Service was provided by friendly staff, who explained the Specials on offer. I ordered the lamb shoulder which had been recommended, and my wife ordered the 'small portion' fillet steak. Our food was perfectly cooked and very enjoyable. We decided to have dessert and ordered the fruit crumble and custard, which was excellent. We would certainly recommend the Pheasant for a great 'pub food' experience.

Fabulous pub. Fabulous food. Amazing service. Would definitely recommend this place 👌 Dog friendly tables for eating near the bar area and also a restaurant at the side for people without dogs. Lots of specials available on the board. Can stay here too. Can't wait to go back for another meal 👍

Really nice, dog-friendly pub. Staff friendly and service good. The super-food salad was so, so nice. I struggled to find pubs in the lakes that offered anything other than puddings and pies 😅 and I do love a salad especially in summer. It would be nice if there were more vegan options for dessert.

5* service and food couldn't fault it. My dad said the ale was brilliant. Garlic prawn starters was amazing. Best fish and chips ive ever had gourmet. Views of the sea and mountains. Spacious parking. Easy access for people with limited mobility.

Called in as it was the first pub that looked welcoming, after coming from Chester, visiting a nearby garage to test drive a car. Was really glad to have found it. Melissa Jo was kind enough to find me a table to dine alone where I wouldn’t feel too uncomfortable; something most restaurants overlook but it was really appreciated. The food was great and Melissa Jo ensured I had what I needed and was able to settle up quickly before being on my way. A great experience, I’ve already recommended the place to colleagues who live nearby. Hospitality is still suffering the after effects of covid, with many places unable to recruit good people. I’ve experienced this in too many eateries of late. However, Melissa Jo was a fantastic asset to The Pheasant and seemed to enjoy her work which was a joy to see in the current climate. Thanks for a great meal and outstanding service!

My husband and I enjoyed a birthday meal here last night after a few excellent recommendations. We chose to sit in the conservatory and it was decorated so beautifully. The staff were so welcoming, friendly and attentive from the start and extremely helpful throughout which really made our evening. The food was delicious and extremely good quality home cooked food. We both had three courses and found the bill extremely reasonable for exceptional food. We will definitely return if we are in the area. Thanks to the staff for making our evening so enjoyable.

Great atmosphere, good qualiry food and real ales. Very friendly staff, best to book, though they might be able to find room in the bar area. Dog friendly but restricted to bar area. Plenty of out side seating and the front extension is nearly completed. Recommend the pie, burger and curry. Always food specials, if you want a change.

Found completely by accident during a recent family holiday, but we were so impressed we booked another table for our last night while we were there. Food was delicious, a really good choice of dishes although not much of a selection for my daughter, who is vegan. Very good service too, by everybody. I only ordered the fish and chips, but it was absolutely delicious, cooked to perfection, white flakes of meat with a superb crispy batter that stayed crisp. The onion rings were sublime also All of our group enjoyed our meals and visit, hence the return. Highly recommended. Yum yum.

My husband and I (plus the pooch) had a lovely stay. We booked a double dog friendly room which was very newly decorated, had all the modern features you could want, plus an excellent hot shower. Having frequented this pub over the past 20 years it is fantastic to see it thriving and the introduction of stays. Our evening meal was delicious and the service from Scott was excellent our glasses were never empty. The breakfast was superb and again staff were friendly and polite. We can't wait for our next visit, we might even take the children this time 😀

Always amazing food and great atmosphere. You can come to this pub if you just want a quick drink or you want a full slap up meal to celebrate a special occasion. The family who run the pub are lovely and always looking to better their service, product and help the local community. They also do a great pub quiz!!

We have booked to eat at the Pheasant for the 3rd time in a week! We've had different things on the menu and the food is beautifully presented and tastes wonderful. The staff are very attentive and the food arrives quickly. A really nice menu, something for everyone. The lemon & lime cheesecake on the specials board was absolute perfection in my opinion! The decor is modern and the ambience is great. Would definitely recommend this lovely place.

After wandering around a very cold Grange over sands, we decided to find a cosy pub to rest and warm up. Had a look on Google Maps and this pub had excellent reviews 👌 so we parked up in their car park and hurried inside. We we're greeted by cheery staff who sat us down in the bar area, as we brought our dog with us. Our dog happily sat beside their fake wood burner, thinking it was real! The service was friendly and quick. Fantastic food, drink and atmosphere. A very enjoyable way to spend a cold 🥶 afternoon 😀 highly recommended

Occasionally, you walk into a pub or pub/restaurant that you don't know and like it straight away. The Pheasant Inn was one of those, for me, as we arrived for our first meal here in the restaurant. The welcome was good, the staff were straightforwardly trying to do a good job for us, to make our meal a pleasant one that we could relax and enjoy! We had a great time and the food, was indeed nice. Sufficiently so that we popped back later the other afternoon and had another simpler meal when the place was quiet. We enjoyed that too! So, pretty full marks, from us, up to yet. We've booked again for another evening meal, so must be pretty happy!!

We had a lovely meal there on Sunday evening - the staff were so hopeful and friendly to our whole group, including the kids and we've never had a better experience in terms of being catered for with outer multiple severe allergies - made us feel really safe and like it wasn't any problem but we really appreciate the effort! Will definitely return any time we're in the area. Thank you so much.

A very warm welcome from the staff, food was lovely. I personally found the menu although expansive lacked variety with to much familiarity with the spices and curries, not a criticism just an observation. Personally I would like to see a proper steak option espically with the lovely meat around, something like a 10oz ribeye with some great marbling would be fantastic. We will return with this venue and we will no doubt be welcomed In the same way. Staff are such a value to a business and they have it in spades congrats and well done

OK so I'm not gonna lie I was warned the portions were tiny..... what on earth... no they are not... the food is amazing and so much variety. Gluten free options available which is rare to see so many options. Pre booked a table as advised on website. Lovely spacious room, I wasn't keen on the table space they were going to seat us in but when I asked for more room they more than happily helped out. The staff are amazing and so funny. We really enjoyed both times we jave been. Plenty of parking in their private car park. Easily accessible. Wheelchair access (notify when booking). Some outside seating with a view. Large window across dining area with same view. Prices are good ranging from lunch times course £11-17 and normal menu meals from £11-20. For two of us and 2 couses and a soft drink it was £45. Again price varies on if you do lunch or evening meal and specials. Specials board if full of options of which you may have fun trying to pronounce some of them ha.

The restaurant provides a relaxed atmosphere with its character-filled interior adorned with dark wood beams, open fires, and Lakeland photography. The menu showcases Rogan's innovative touch, offering constantly changing dishes that are rich in flavor.
Wonderful casual dining experience. We visited in autumn 2021 and 2022 as it was so nice. The menu is so varied and the food and drink selection is sublime. We even got a little treat because we mentioned it was my boyfriends birthday. The sticky toffee madeleines were so so yummy. It is expensive, but not ridiculously so. Definitely worth the price.

Had a delicious meal here, food was superb. The ice-cream Sunday do it yourself was amazing, especially the salty crumb. Best dish was the onion soup with dumplings, absolutely unforgettable and so so good. Pure finesse! Service was good, just a lack of wine knowledge that resulted in 3 glasses of extremely cloudy wine being poured and they didn't really know what to do. They should have replaced the glasses, instead we were offered to have each glass filtered! Hmmm ... Photo shows the scum this left on the glass and the 1cm of greyish deposit at the bottom of my opaque wine. First half of bottle was not like this.

Visited Rogan & Co this week as part of Birthday celebrations for my partner, The food was beautifully presented with incredible flavours, which both myself and my partner thoroughly enjoyed, we also opted for the wine pairing, and this did not disappoint either, with some very well picked wines! Service was absolutely spot on, all the staff give you plenty of info around the food and the wines, and all done in a way, where you feel you are being given just the right amount of attention, whilst being able to enjoy your visit to the full, A great team all round. Well recommended to dine here if you are planning on a visit to the area.

We had a great time here. The menu is a la carte, which is unusual for a Michelin starred place. They gave us snacks while we were looking at the menu, which I thoroughly approved of. The truffle dumpling was to die for! I opted for the short rib while my wife had the duck. The short rib was amazing, with a real beefy flavour. We'll definitely go back

This was a Christmas present treat of a meal and it was a much appreciated gift. This is more than just eating, it is a foodie experience! We were warmly greeted and invited to a simple, table in a well decorated room. The staff were professional and courteous throughout. We had 4 courses and although each was small we felt deliciously full at the end. The manager chatted to us fir a while and recommended a WONDERFUL Italian red wine to go with our meal. Very impressed with the sustainability perspective of the restaurant which has home grown herbs, local cheese suppliers and sustainable wine producers, to name some of the points. A wonderful time, a magnificent meal and a find memory. Go!

We met up with friends in Cartmel and they had booked a meal here. It's not what we would normally choose as it's not dog friendly. The food was amazing, really tasty and fresh with extra in between courses that had unexpected ingredients, all beautifully presented. I found the service a bit over the top, rushed and a little claustrophobic at times. All in all a memorable experience, but one which won't be repeated too often. Thanks.

What a fantastic dining experience we had! Each course is beautifully presented - I hardly wanted to mess it up with a bite but of course that’s impossible because the aromas and colors. The addition of flowers as not just garnish but as an edible part of the dish was so fun - never eaten a chrysanthemum before. Highly recommend the wine pairing. The service was just as great and not overly fussy which I liked. It’s the little touches that make this place different and it didn’t disappoint.

I was really looking forward to eating here, we had the wine pairing which was lovely. It was amazing, the little snacks were popping with flavour , food beautifully presented and top notch service. My only criticism was my hogget was over salty, other than that highly recommended. Lovely atmosphere and ambience

Delicious food and wonderful attentive staff. It was my birthday treat and I felt very spoilt coming here. Very filling for smaller portion sizes. Wonderful experience.

To be honest, I'm amazed by this place! It has a top-notch menu for a very reasonable price. I've never seen anything like it before. The food was fantastic and very well balanced, the service was great and the atmosphere really friendly and not snobbish at all. I especially appreciated that they were aware of my food intolerance and changed the dishes accordingly.

A great experience. Food was excellent with a special mention for the skate main course. The outstanding thing for me was the service. All the staff were young people who were polite, friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Highly recommended if you get the chance.

The Cavendish Arms in Cartmel is a charming hotel housed in a 16th-century coaching inn. The rooms are understated and the restaurant exudes a warm and inviting atmosphere. For an extraordinary dining experience, guests can visit Simon Rogan's L'Enclume, known for its exceptional cuisine and two Michelin stars. Another great option is Rogan and Co, located in a picturesque stone cottage by the river.
Fantastic food with a lovely, welcoming atmosphere. All of the staff are always so friendly and attentive. The menu is always varied and they have a great selection of specials on. The food is beautifully prepared, using local produce and it is always exceptional. We frequently return as the food is so good! Really lovely pub, highly recommend for a wonderful meal and good selection of gins & ales, with a warm & friendly atmosphere.

We visited the Cavendish Arms on 30th Dec, as a group of 6 adults and one toddler, for a meal in the restaurant. The service was fantastic - friendly, quick and nothing too much trouble despite being at the end of a busy festive period with a full bar and restaurant still to deal with. We booked ahead and would recommend as we saw a couple of groups walk-in and be turned away due to them being fully-booked; this place is popular! The food was delicious and the whole group enjoyed what we had with no complaints at all. Will definitely return.

My boyfriend and I ate here whilst staying up the road in Upper Crumble Cottages. The food was amazing. Honestly, hands down, the BEST pie I’ve ever had. Steak and ale, shortcrust of course. Wow. Service impeccable. Ambience lovely. Friendly locals. Fire. Dogs. What’s more to ask for? We have booked to go back for Sunday roast ☺️

Fantastic pub. Delicious food, friendly and energetic and professional staff. He guided the meal with great recommendations. "I could live here" the quote from the table. The Cartmel Thoroughbred was a very nice pint, and the homemade STP a perfect, if decadent end for the meal. Will happily return.

We visited the Cavendish Arms the evening before our wedding, we had 28 guests in total across various tables in the restaurant. Richard was extremely helpful with getting this booked in and accommodating our party. The service on the evening was wonderful, everything went smoothly, the food was delicious and we really had a great evening thanks to the staff here. We had visited before just the two of us and had been impressed then, but the Cavendish arms was just a wonderful location for our wedding eve and all the team that served us were warm and helpful. Thank you Cavendish Arms!

Excellent food and service, seen the Google 2 star google rating and was a bit concerned however this place had by far the best food I have had from a restaurant and I work away every week so this is brilliant.honestly the food is unbelievable. If you are local to this pub or just passing by please do try it as we were very impressed by the service and the quality of the food. We would definitely recommend a visit here it's a lovely homely place!!

We had a meal here for Mother's Day having been for Sunday lunch a few times now. We were disappointed to see that the price of the roast had risen considerably (£23 per person, one course) - quite shocking when the Kings Arms around the corner was running a promotion of 2 for £25. We all ordered the beef (no chicken option available, again disappointing on a roast) and these arrived pink - one was returned as a result to be cooked 'well done'. We were simply told 'we serve it pink' - this was not mentioned on the menu or preferences for cooking asked when the order was taken.

Another delicious meal at The Cavendish. I took friends that were visiting. They were so impressed. Very lucky to have a reliably good atmospheric pub about 4 miles away. Very buzzy even on a Monday evening in June.

Really lovely pub in the square with relaxing music and great decor. Quite pricey but seems worth it! Vegan sticky toffee pudding was amazing and service was spot on. More vegan / veggie options would be appreciated.

Too good to take photos. One of the best pub meals I've ever had. Arguably the best ever gnocchi and sticky toffee pudding (not together). We're only in the area for a few nights... might be back tomorrow!

Beautiful old pub in the heart of the village. Food is excellent and reasonably priced, while the service is highly competent and friendly. Love it.

Wonderful Sunday roast. Great service - friendly, helpful and genuine. We booked in advance and loved our lunch - the portions were proper! ‘Kids’ roast was huge, and great value, and all of the food was spot on, cooked perfectly with lovely gravy and trimmings. A must: their own Sticky Toffee Pudding… we ordered one to share between our family of 4, but had to order another because it was just too good! We will visit again for sure next time we’re in the area visiting. We’ll come again for the food, service, ambience and good pub vibes. And the Sticky Toffee Pudding!

Great place to stop for lunch in Cartmel. The food was really good. We had the olives (really nice olives), squid which was super tasty and then shared the ale pie which was really good. The food was really good but what stood out to us was the staff. Every person we encountered was so nice - exceptionally nice. We sat outside because it was such a nice day and it’s almost idillic. Highly recommend a visit.

Popped in for a meal, we hadn't booked but were seated which was very nice of them! The food is decent, very quick and efficient service, and the bavette steak was cooked to perfection. A few vegan options on the menu, too. The pub itself is a beautiful building and has a very relaxed atmosphere inside. Well recommended for anyone staying in Cartmel, or just passing through!

Bar
The Kings Arms is a charming pub and restaurant located in Cartmel village. With its original features like an open log fire, wooden beamed ceilings, and flagstone floors, it exudes a warm and inviting atmosphere. The pub offers a wide selection of cask ales from different breweries, including the local Unsworths Yard micro-brewery. Their menu is homely and seasonal, showcasing classic British dishes with locally sourced ingredients to support the local economy.
Having visited the king's arms I have to say what a wonderful place this is so welcoming and hospitable the owner of the pub welcomes dogs even having dog treats on the bar which is a great plus for the visitors who visit with their canine companions. The food is extremely good excellent chef and the staff go the extra mile to accommodate you Ryan who runs the bar is such a lovely young guy who takes great pride in welcoming everyone a definite must if you are visiting this part of the country I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this for your next visit

26/05/22: visited Cartmel for the first time today, on our way back from Eskdale. Stopped for lunch at The Kings Arms and enjoyed a Wainwright: Golden beer, 4% and a Unsworth's Yard Brewery: Last Wolf, red-brown ale, 4.5%. We also enjoyed a Cheese & Red Onion Marmalade toasted ciabatta, with skin on fries and Braised Pigs Cheek, with pork bon bon & potato gratin. Dog friendly, welcoming staff, good service. Sat overlooking the River Eea

Stayed for a weekend, greeted with a warm welcome showed up to our room to which was stunning with a luxury four poster bed, plus lots of extra little special touches. Great atmosphere in the pub section with great entertainment which gave this quaint country pub lots of character. Very dog friendly with lots of strokes and treats for the pooch. A Great choice of food on the menu which was very tasty, plus the full English breakfast was to die for. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will surely be going back!!! 5*

Had a great meal at The Kings Arms (on the night QEII died as it happened). The mushroom gnocchi was amongst the very best dishes I’ve had. Thanks!

Everything you want… A lovely warm welcome from all the staff. Food was well prepared, delicious and served piping hot. A water bowl for the dog ?….no problem. Highly recommend.

This was perhaps the worst meal I have ever had. Everything swimming in grease. Awful far better eatery’s in Cartmel for a fraction of the price. I am Not one for leaving reviews. But I felt I needed to on this occasion there is a certain member of staff who has an odour stale alcohol and body odour and it was really off putting. We left and went to The Royal Oak and had a fabulous time! The kings arms really needs to do better. Last year when we visited it was amazing but seems staff and management have all left, which is a real sad loss!

We visited on a Friday night, my husband wanted to try the fish Friday but unfortunately that had sold out of fish 🙈. I was a chef for many years and get that some times you run out of things but my husband and brother in law weren’t very impressed. Food did take a while to come but as soon as it did I could tell why, everything was so hot and obviously freshly cooked. I had pie and chips and it was amazing. Overall we would definitely come back if in the area, we enjoyed the singer and it was a cute cozy pub

The food was fantastic even the service was great the only thing that let it down was the lady who I think was some sort of manager. She was swearing about a member of staff when I sat at the table she continued to do nothing but put him down while we where there all I can say is poor Ryan he was great in my eyes very friendly went out of his way for us and the table next to us I think the lady in question needs to look at her management skills

By far our most favourite pub in the Lake District we are never disappointed. We spent the weekend in one of the lovely rooms. The food was excellent with a great choice on the menu. All the staff were attentive and catered for our every need. We would definitely recommend the Kings Arms its well worth a visit

Spent best part of Sunday evening in the King's (April bank hol weekend). They had a singer on who was really good and the atmosphere was superb. All people in the pub were having a great time and it was a shame it had to close due to Sunday Hours. Staff were really good too. Hope the Captain Morgan Spice Rum bottle doesn't fall off the wall again 😂😂

Can’t comment on the food and atmosphere as we didn’t get chance to experience it. I booked a table online and received confirmation of my booking. I then called the pub and spoke to someone on the phone who confirmed our booking was registered on their end. Later when we arrived for our reservation, we were rudely greeted by the staff, who told us unapologetically that there was no trace of the booking on their system. I showed them the email confirmation I had received from the booking and they dismissed it. Also they denied that they had confirmed anything on the phone despite the fact I had talked to them prior. In the end we left without so much as an apology. If you don’t want to take the risk of showing up to your reserved table just to be turned away, I wouldn’t bother with this pub.

Stayed for 2 nights to celebrate my wife's birthday and had a great time. The room was spacious and very comfortable with a four poster bed and roll top bath. Ate in the pub both nights and the food was fantastic. Very dog friendly place and our's enjoyed all of the attention she got. Would definitely recommend. 👍
