The Regional Museum of Beja, also known as the Queen Leonor Museum, is a former Franciscan convent dating back to the 15th century. This Portuguese Baroque building now houses a museum with an impressive collection of historic and artistic works. The interior boasts ornate Gothic and Manueline architecture, including a rococo chapel with golden woodwork from the 17th and 18th centuries, as well as a marble-inlaid chapel.

Beautiful snack-size museum. Sadly partially under construction (so soon to be even better 😉) but despite that worth stepping in.

Very well kept building with much art and sculpture inside. Entry is very cheap.

Very well situated and has food places near it.
Meghna Mukherjee — Google review
The old church here has an impressive interior, but the rest of the exhibits in the museum tend to be dark and gloomy. None of the information boards have English translations, so much of the explanatory information is lost to non-Portuguese speakers. That said, the entrance fee is very cheap and includes the entrance to another museum.

A beautiful and interesting place to visit - the sad but romantic story of Sister Mariana whose love letters to a French young man named Noel Barton, Chamilly's Marquis were discovered after her death. These letters were world renowned. The church is very intricately carved with much gold leaf used. I enjoyed an excellent salad to finish off the day .

A small regional museum housed in an old convent of Our Lady of the Conception. It is worth a visit, especially if you like late Gotic and Baroque architecture as well as tiles - there are beautiful azulejos everywhere, both blue and white (sometimes also yellow) in the Baroque style and also some late Gothic Moorish looking azulejos. Housing a beautiful marble head of Julius Caesar as well, one of the few made when he was still alive. Friendly staff and hopefully they'll be able to make renovations of the building soon enough, the place deserves some decent care and restoration.

Convent is actually a Pousada Hotel. But you can explore the convent's massive rooms by just walking in. Lovely calm impressive building. Good as a hotel too with good swimming pool.

Beautiful castle. You can visit the tower. It cost 2€. Students pay 1,50 and a family ticket is 4 € for 4 persons. A great view from the top of the tower. There is a garden around the castle. Inside, there is also a museum.

We visited this castle and were able to park almost next to the city walls. The castle entrance was a few minutes walk away, following the line of the walls through parkland. Entry to the castle is free and you can walk part of the castle walls. It is a small castle and there are no buildings inside but the tower is both visible for miles and allows you to see for miles! It is well restored and you can climbed the 180 odd steps to the roof, passing through three rooms with vaulted ceilings to get there.
Marcus Hurley — Google review
Well preserved, beautiful medieval castle. One has to pay to visit and climb the castle keep but the surrounding walls are totally free to explore which is a plus! Major Lord of the rings vibe if I will be honest. Small con is that imo, the Beja castle is the only interesting point of interest to visit in the city.

Impressive high tower. You can climb all the way to top for great views. Well worth the small entrance fee. Easy to get to. There are a lot of great restaurants nearby.

Beja Castle Time spent: 40 min Price: 2 EUR - Tower Car Parking: behind the Castle/Se Bike parking: not available Castelo de Beja is a medieval castle in Beja. The first types of walls were built [4th century] on the Beja's hill during the Roman Empire [Pax Julia]. Part of the Roman arch ("Évora Gate") dated from this general construction in the Roman provinces. The city was very important and a lot of things inside the castle were changed or improved by Visigoths, Moors, and Portuguese rulers. The region was reconquered in 1159 by the forces of King Afonso Henriques. In 1253, King D. Afonso III began work on reconstructing the fortress. King D. Dinis ordered the construction of the keep tower in 1310. At the beginning of the 16th century, King D. Manuel I began a project to improve the fortification, that possibly included the construction of the vaulted ceiling in the keep tower. In 1790, part of the fortifications were demolished to construct the new church. The castle was secondly [after the period of Reconquista] used during the 19 century. against the army of Napoleon. You can enter the castle for free (and the local museum also), but the price to visit the tower is 2 EUR [or 1 EUR for students]. [!]Take into consideration that the schedules of the castle and the tower are different. The castle: 9:30-12:30/14-18. The tower: 9:30-12:00/14:00-18:00. The last entrance into the tower is 30 min before it is closed.

I stayed here for 3 nights 28th to 30th March 2024, The Room was clean and comfortable, the Barman was great and the bar price was very reasonable. The Breakfast was fantastic with something for everyone and the staff were kind and friendly. This was fantastic value for money and if I go to Beja again I will be staying here again.

Nice hotel, quite simple but it’s ok to soend few days. On the first night I stayed on a single room and on the second night I have moved to a double room. The double room was on the 3rd floor and you can see that is more modern and new and even the bathroom was more spacious and bright. You had breakfast included with a good variety of food: toast, different types of ham, cheese, bread, fruits, milk. Not sure of they have a vegan option for the breakfast but the only thing i saw there suitable for vegans was the bread, fruits and almond/soy milk. The hotel has 2 parkings, the one in front and another one on the side that is located in front of the swimming pool. They also have 2 swimming pools, one smaller for children and a big one.

Very cozy small typical restaurant next to the Castelo de Beja. Extremely welcoming service, we arrived earlier than our booked slot and there was no problem with that. The guy who served us was very nice and gentle to us and our child too. Our menu was: bife de novilho ( that comes with migas de esparragos/ migas de alho/ batatas fritas/ arros e picanha fina. It seems to be the best place in town for the amount of reserved tables. The plate with ham and cheese starts to show the high quality of the restaurant. My wife ordered the lamb, which she loved. We were here twice in a row because it was that good. Also, well-priced! First time we got the alheira and lagartos which were dishes of the day. Second time, we got lulinhas algarvia and arroz de pato, also dishes of the day. The lulinhas were also grilled to perfection, a pleasant texture and well seasoned with cilantro, garlic and olive oil. The arroz de pato was also a pleasant surprise. I was expecting rice with bits of duck and sausage cooked in the rice, but it was more like pato com arroz - a duck leg with rice and side salad. Very delicious. Everything tastes good, well-balanced flavours and nothing is over salted. Compliments to the chef!! Being an adega, the house red was also very good. Great accompaniment to our delicious food. We were very well fed. Will definitely return when next in Beja. (Idk why this was flagged as offensive and not posted!)

Visited for lunch and sat up between the earthenware old wine making items on a great table that was semi private but part of the atmosphere. Fabulous service with a bit of a language lesson with difficult to say words spelt out on the table cloth. Our food was excellent and we had a great red wine. Desert was a freshly cooked sort of plum tart. Super sweet so great advice from the waiter to scale back to just one between two. Not that expensive but exceedingly good value. A must to visit. As I told my Spanish friends, they serve American-sized portions with the quality and taste of Spanish food. I foolishly decided to order two appetizers. First came the Navy bean soup which was hot, thick, creamy, and oh so tasty. Next came the calamari which was lightly breaded in what I can only describe as the tastiest batter I've ever had the pleasure of eating. It was light and crispy with profound garlic and onion flavor, complimented with hints of parsley and a touch of salt, which greatly accentuated the fresh innate seafood taste of the calamari. Next came the main course: a heaping portion of steak and tiger prawns (aka the jumboist of jumbo shrimp 🍤). The meat was tender and flavorful while the prawns were cooked to perfection. I was served by the owner and she was polite and very warm, answering every question I had while providing her recommendations. I left the restaurant full, sleepy, and very happy.

This is now our favourite restaurant. The food was incredible and our plates were full. We had to take a big box of food home with us, we were so full!!

It was back to October last year. I stayed in Beja for 3 days with my colleagues. Before I went to Beja, I called to Intimo for some catering enquiry and the boss Jose answered all my questions patiently. After arrival, we went there for dinner. It was just amazing, we had a wonderful night. Moreover, I needed to get some catering for my boss to eat on the private jet flight back to London. Jose was so professional. He had given a lot of suggestions on catering selection with wonderful packing. He is such a gorgeous gourmet chef. He made my Beja trip more memorable. Hope I can back to visit in one day! Miss Beja and Intimo loads :)

One of our best meals in Portugal. It seemed a bit pricier for Portugal at first but the portions were very generous and food of top quality. My boyfriend and I were both very full and satisfied. The food was exquisite and the service very friendly and helpful. Our waiter translated the entire menu for us as we didn’t understand Portuguese and the chef was very generous upon special requests. They don’t list it on the menu but the chef is very willing to make a vegan risotto. We both ordered from the special menu and could really recommend!

Four stars only because the table service was a bit slow, it is the Alentejo after all! The first time I ate here, I ate the Terra e Mar (surf and turf) and had the mushroom risotto. We were three and couldn't finish the plate that was for 2! Two weeks later I came back, wondering was it worth the 2hr drive for a risotto, and the answer was a resounding yes! The migas de espargos are amazing and filling too. Would totally eat here again!

MUST TRY THIS RESTAURANT-FOOD MADE WITH LOVE So I tried to eat Bacalhau and other plates in different restaurants. We didn’t know if we were going to be there because had other ones and tried to figure out where. Starting with a waiter getting us to feel well on the table then came the owner/Chef helping explain all the plates that we would like. So when come the food we were overwhelmed for the look And Took pics before we all ate. When we start to eat the presentation, taste, were amazing and we were delighted. This restaurant was one of the best restaurants in the region we stay. All the plates was made with care and we taste all. Usually when your travel is very hard to do review but this one I felt I couldn’t pass since people look for the real and honest review that all counts. The chef really made our day. We leave in Miami Beach, FL U.S.A. but the bacalhau don’t compare with the ones in Portugal. Thanks to all. Vera

The meal here was amazing. I had the tomahawk with a friend and the prawns and steak was cooked exquisitely. The portions were beyond generous and the service was terrific. Highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Beja, Mercello gave terrific recommendations.

Amazing location we found by chance! Service was super helpful and read us the menu in English. Great local beers and large portions, would fully recommend checking out if you're in the area!
