Quite concrete fake, maybe in the past was nice, now its not renovation, but building of completely new castle like Disneyland. Such a shame…

Beautiful castle with an incredible feel. What made this worth the visit was the professional tour guide who played the part in traditional Knight costume. He delivered a knowledgeable brief passionately and answered questions thoroughly. Great day out! Looking forward to visiting when the jousting and other entertainment is on in the future!

This is one of the best historical place especially in Miskolc. The facilities are really great even for people having disabilities can enter to the castle. At some times, there are theatrical and historical attraction. The information of castle history given in touch screen in various languages. Tourists from all over the world are really recommended to visit this place.

Very nice castle. There are lot of different chambers to visit, especially I recommend this one with spices in which you can feel the smell of different herbs and etc. Staff is very friendly. In chambers you can find descriptions, some simple puzzle games and lot of different interesting things. Definitely you must visit if you're nearby Miskolc.

The catle with its expositions are in very good conditions offering a lot of facts and subjects well organized in rooms which are every of them focusing on some specific part of activity. Nice peace of history. Very professional staff. Highly recommend.

The castle looks splendid and nice, and is kept in a very good way. We got a discount on the tickets and the kids were free. There were not much to see inside the castle but it was still good to kill some time with the kids and take photos. It is still worthy to visit.

If you're in the Miskolc area this is definitely worth a visit. It's one of the nicest castles I've seen in Hungary; this medieval castle was a favourite holiday residence of Hungarian kings and queens. The castle was renovated between April 2012 and 2014 and instead of a historic castle ruin, visitors can now visit an old, remodeled castle. The castle features a special feature of informal cognition; the visitors can experience the atmosphere of the medieval castle freely, trying all of the things. In addition to the interactive content, reenactors dressed in timeless outfits, as well as spaces on the ground floor that showcase everyday life, contribute to the atmosphere. As a quick reference for the origin of the name: Dió means walnut, referring to the abundant walnut trees in the area. Győr is an archaic version of the word gyűrű, meaning "ring". It probably refers to the rounded shape of the first castle erected on the hill. The first castle was probably built in the 12th century, but destroyed during the Mongol invasion. The castle that stands today was most likely erected in the times of King Béla IV, in the 13th century. The castle had its prime during the reign of Louis I (Louis the Great). In 1364 the nearby town Miskolc was annexed to the Diósgyőr estate. Diósgyőr lost some of its importance when the political union between Hungary and Poland ended. In 1596, the Ottomans occupied the area; Diósgyőr remained under Turkish occupation, ruled by the Pasha of Eger until 1687, when this part of the country was freed from Turkish rule. By this time the castle lost all of its military importance.

We visited during a reenactment, and it was a blast. The schedule we found of events was not followed that I could tell, and with the children under four, that can be a challenge. The food was terrific and the events were fun. The area where the held most events were too crowded. Nevertheless we had fun, as we said saw knights and the various displays in the castle. The stairs up to the towers were treacherous...haha, but the view was worth it (carrying kids up the tower was not).

Nice clean place enjoyable environment. Easy guide through the map. Wide range of animals kept clean and looked healthy I was happy to see that. There is some new additions since my last visit I will always return. Staff polite and friendly. You can buy animal food at the entrance in the gift shop. 😊

Absolutely amazing place to visit! Miskolc Zoo is a zoological garden located in Miskolc, Hungary. It is home to over 500 animals representing more than 100 species, including big cats, primates, birds, reptiles, and various other animals from around the world. The zoo is involved in various conservation and educational activities and has been a member of several international breeding programs for endangered species. visitors can enjoy guided tours, animal feeding, and other interactive experiences.

The worst ZOO I have ever seen. Very little animals, lots of them are in bad condition. No paths - just mud. Just one small shop near entrance. Very little of benches, they are all old. But for me the worst thing was lack of good animals healthcare!!! This ZOO doesn't reach heels the Nyriegyhaza ZOO which is one of the best in Europe.

The place was very good for family and kids. Good range of animals and very different from Budapest or Debrecen Zoo as it's more a feel to walk inside forest and animals and seen more near. People at entrance are very kind, specially those at souvenir shop they gave free lockers to keep our luggage it's important as in zoo there is no trolley for rent. Use miskolc 24 hour or 72 hour pass which is always cheap and best

Great little Zoo. We have yearly tickets and we visit at least every week. The animals have a lot of space and they are well taken care of. It's never crowded. Very peaceful.

Well, it was the first time going to the zoo (I know 😔). I was there for about an hour and some minutes. The walk up? Beautiful and took about 15 minutes from the trolley stop. I don't know how much you guys pay cause I had bought the Miskolc tourist pass/card thingie. I don't know how to compare this zoo as it was my first ever visit. It was okay. I was heart broken by the tigers (honestly, I was an emotional wreak), the bears were cute (of course) but the staff was not really smiley smiley (does it make sense?) but I sort of enjoyed it

Even in the winter season, a lot of animals could be seen. The zoo doesn't seem large but you can easily walk around for at least two hours. Feeding time is around 1pm, and I recommend following the path of the small truck to get a close look of the feeding animals by the fences. The tickets are pretty cheap too.

Beautiful animals just a step away. The place is not overburdened. You can sit down nearly every corner either to rest or to eat. There are houses to take cover in case of rain. All in all it is cool!

This train ride is must! We enjoyed it very much and highly recommend it. Especially if you have kids.

Half of the railway is temporary closed but you must pay the same fee for it. There was no information in town about it even in the information office. The view is really nothing special especially for its price. Mostly covered by trees and garbage.

If you or your kids like trains (mine are obsessed), than you cannot go wrong. The longer the better! The trip to Garadna is rather uneventful with only a small snack area and a couple of trail heads, but a fun overall experience.

Fully renovated and - as others already shared - only going until Garadna. There is a pretty nice playground. For families with kids a nice round trip.

THIS IS NOT DEPARTURE STATION!!! Unfortunately, we have been deceived by the number of reviews this place had. This is only train's depo. Tram personel sent us all the way to Dorottya utca where the train starts the journey, despite the fact that it also stops on the other side of the road, some 200m away. That has costed us 45mins. Now to the actual service. In my perspective it looks like they don't really want tourists to use the train. Departure station is virtually unfindable on the map. Lady selling tickets only speaks Hungarian. All signs are in Hungarian only. There is no map of the railway, no map of stops. Price is high. I am not surprised that the train was only half-full in high-season. Back to positives. Departure station has toilets. The ride was great. It is impressive how steep of an angle this train can climb. Open wagons really improve the experience. Kids were in full attention. To help you navigate, departure station is named "Láev Dorottya utca Végállomás" in Google Maps. The stop next to this place is called "LÁEV Majláth úti megálló".

the actors and actresses are great, the shows are very good, never saw bad acting or anything negative in this place. the big theatre is beautiful, the little one is cosy. :)

Nice theater. Went there to see Turandot (I liked the performance a lot) which was 7€ for the best seats. Hard to beat that!

I was there this year and for 13 years. The theater is soo beautiful like for 13 years ago, the performers are gorgeous, but the plays were letdown for me.

The restaurant itself is nicely decorated. Waitresses are kind, but we had to wait a bit long to someone take our order even though it was only a few guests in the restaurant. We had to use the little button placed on each table to call the waitress for taking our order. These little buttons however are a great idea! The food was delicious with big portions! The coffee on the other hand could be better. In the toilet the soap dispenser was empty. Overall it was a nice experience and we will be back when we visit Hungary again.

The meals are big, delicious and you can't stop eating. But if you stop, they will offer you to take the remaining food with you! I really would recommend to visit this place! Prices are really fair!

I knew I will find something of a kind in Miskolc: a hidden nice place with pretty complicated dishes even if we mean the crepes. It is in center, but outside of the usual touristic routes. Any way, it is worth visiting! My compliments to the work the guys do. We easily overate, because everything was too delicious

The place has a big advantage, it has parking and terrace, on top of crepe based foods. Parking in Miskolc was a pain, we had no coins, the mobile app did not work to take the card, sms only valid for national numbers. The menu has lots of crepes options, savory and sweet. We took a soup, a beef pancake and a pulled pork one. The good was tasty and big big portions, too much to eat for us to be honest. The service was friendly, good English, polite, good times. The prices are high, especially for meat pancakes (4300-5000 huf per such dish). Terrace has no plants, just concrete, gets hot even with umbrellas.

Creppes heaven. Find it on the map, take a walk and try. Wide variety of sweat or sour creppes in deacent size and satisfactory tasts. Highly recommended to visit when you are done with goulash or other hungarian food;)

This place was amazing! 😀 We ordered a big Gru lemonade and 2 pancakes both of them was very delicious. The crew was very kind and fast. I recommend itt 100% after a long walk cause the portion is big that's why itt worth every penny 😃

We tried the savory pancakes and they were very lovely. In the picture is the Alfredo and the pancake of the month (beef and carrot). The pancake was soft, the stuffing was well-seasoned and the portion was large. The restaurant has a very chill view. We did not wait too much time for the food and the tea was nice too. Exceptional! Not surprising it is Michelin recommended! We really enjoyed our meal here. Can be reached easily from the walking street in the centre of Miskolc by taking the tram. The inside of the restaurant has a great atmosphere but, we chose to eat out on the terrace as it was lovely weather that evening. We both had starters - kohlrabi soup & melon salad. For mains, I ordered the pumpkin filled beetroot ravioli w/ blood orange sauce & it was gorgeous. My daughter opted for their vegan special & that evening it was a delicious & fragrant coconut curry with seasonal vegetables of cauliflower & summer squash. We couldn't pass up pudding either on this occasion & both were divine! We had several beers & cocktails as well & along with 3 course each, it was difficult to believe all told the bill was under £70. Excellent value for such a fabulously presented & exceptional dining experience. Service was also very friendly & efficient. There is an English menu if your Hungarian is rusty. 😉 If you plan to visit Lillafüred via the wonderful Forest Railway, the station is next door & a visit here for dinner would be a lovely way to end your day out there.

We went here for a dinner couple of days ago. It was our first time visiting, but definitely not the last one! The whole experience was 10/10! The waiter was super friendly and spoke perfect english. The food was 10/10. Im following the plantbased diet so first I wasnt sure if theres gonna be something for me, but dont worry, vegan friends, theyve got you covered :) they offer some vegan meals and even super yummy dessert. Definitely coming back again, highly recommend.

I had an absolutely delightful experience here. My in-laws are local and this is their favorite restaurant, so they took us for dinner during our visit from the US. I can ser why - the atmosphere was beautiful, warm and inviting, the food was presented and cooked to perfection and the service we received was the best I have had in Hungary. It is most certainly deserving of its Michelin rating. I am already counting down to our next visit so we can come back for round 2!

A Michelin nominated restaurant in such an industrial part of Hungary. Really high quality food, loved everything we ordered, we particularly enjoyed the seasonal vegetarian dish, fresh ingredients with great depth of flavours.

What can I say, a restaurant that overall deserves a Michelin star! Stunning décor, a combination of colours and materials designed ad hoc... But the kitchen with a coterie of young guys (the oldest is 25 years old) ... and the service: Szabi served us, took good care of us, chatted with us, showed us around the restaurant and explained colours and materials (see photos). We started with a house entrée, and then a mixed starter of local cured meats and cheeses, with trout pâté and duck liver pâté. If you come here, you must try the 'kebab sandwich' with wine venison, tejfol, smoked onions, rocket and marinated cabbage. It opened my mind and of course my heart ❤️ And for dessert: a kind of mellow mash, made with the white of the softest egg, drowned in an egg custard flavoured with Madagascar vanilla. Superlative dinner! All drowned by two bottles of Sauska Pinot Noir 2018, and gin and tonic to follow ...

The service is fantastic, speaks fluently in English, knows the menu in every detail and can propose dishes you may like or look for. Food is served in beautiful and aesthetic way, delicious and worth it's cost. Prices are not the lowest but for sure you won't regret paying a bit more for the taste. If I were you I would sit inside because interior is elegant and cool, outside it's not so nice and rather hot, although it's near the main street and tramstop so it's loud.

Very nice place and excellent food. Highly recommended for the area of Miskolc. Situated near Diosgyor, right at the train station to Lillafured. Try the pork with bacon and the chicken breast. Nice deserts, too.

Too good the steak, the beer and the service. We love the experience there and the beers are very good. Each table has a tap with 5 types of beers and it's a perfect way to taste all of them. The steak was nicely cooked and delicious. Would go back to Miskolc just for this

The real deal here is that there are taps at the side of each table, so you can draft the locally made beer yourself. The beers are fine, too, and the food has traditionally been fairly tasty. If you stay around Miskolc, and have a free evening, it is definitely worth a try. Prices are slightly higher than what is usual in Miskolc.

Unfortunately the soup was awful. Other dishes and all of the choice my husband ordered were great. Only the chicken soup... So bad. After one spoon I just stopped. It was on the same level of a school canteen chicken soup. The liquid itself tasteless, the vegetables overcooked. Disgusting I gave 3 stars because other dishes from the menu were nice. Not outstanding but nice. We have been here before. Based on my memories I have had higher expectations. Sorry guys

One of the best restaurants in Miskolc if not the best. The food was excellent and pleasing to the eyes too. Warm service and nice atmosphere. Reasonable prices for a fine dining experience.✨

While slightly off the beaten track, have no worries since Miskolc is a small town so it takes only 10 minutes from the city centre in order to reach this restaurant. And boy, was the walk worth it! The tartar was heavenly, perfectly seasoned and flavourful. The fish was also lovely, fresh and cooked impeccably. The waiting lady was super nice, and recommended to us the best palinka we've ever had (make sure to go with the quince). Atmosphere was super chill, with tables spaciously distributed so that each guest could have privacy, and discreet music in the background. All in all, a fancy experience with none of the pretenciousness :)

After a long drive from the other side of the country, we happened upon this place in Miskolc. Upon entering, we were kindly greeted by the host who also seemed to be manning the bar and assisted in serving us. The staff was friendly and helpful. They could tell right away that my wife doesn't speak Hungarian, so they spoke to us in Hunglish (Hungarian-English hybrid). The food was great--especially the grilled chicken. Bread was served before the main course arrived and it came with a beet salad. Normally, I would be displeased with beet salad. Who am I, Dwight Schrute? But this beet salad was excellent! I was pleasantly surprised. My roast beef came with what seems like some small fried mashed potato cakes. They were also delicious. Also worth mentioning: the plates themselves were quite nice. Their design was unique and they felt pretty substantial and sturdy. Öt csillag!

Half way through the meal I discovered a huge caterpillar in the salad. Very unprofessional for a place aiming for high end dining. Although the waiter apologised and they didn’t charge for that dish, his response was that it’s not possible to see the bugs hiding in the salad leaves and such things already happened from time to time. Disappointing to see such low standards. Will not be returning for sure

The food was yummy ...even though they have mostly quite heavy and a lot of fried meals you can find also sth a bit lighter..service was hospitable. Only - is the ambience...it feels a bit seedy and dirty and its not well climatised so our clothes smelled badly afterwards...I would come back but only in the summer time when the outside terasse is opened

Real, amazing Hungarian cuisine. Warm environment. Only bad part was, we did not feel really comfortable by being foreigner, waiter was not open to speak English. However they have menu in German, Slovak, Romanian etc. which is nice If you speak any of them

After an exhausting day in the cave bath we were really hungry. Luckily we found this restaurant close to our apartment. The food is really delicious here and the prices are really fair. We chose hungarian special dishes like gulash soup served in a pot or lecso, and they were super tasty. We recommed to visit this place in summer as they have a really nice and shadowy garden.

First time I tried the real taste of Hungarian food here, in Tapolca. In Budapest I didn't try even something similar. And didn't get the same nice service

Cozy place to eat a very delicious goulash soup. The second dishes were also savory. There are menus in seven languages: hungarian, english, german, polish, slovak, romanian and ukrainean, easy to find something on your taste. Refreshing draft beer.

The food is flawless, the portions, even the ones made for light eaters are really big. The service is really modern, you are given a digital device to call the waiter, and they are comparatively fast. The place has a cozy atmosphere and its name evokes the Roman republic and the orator Cicero.

It’s a clean, cozy, friendly environment; however I was disappointed by the spicy fish soup. I’m Hungarian and it was neither spicy nor much fish: I counted 8 little pieces of fish in half a liter watery soup. No veggies or anything; I had to add paprika and salt to it; I had to ask for bread extra, and when it arrived, it was dry. Obviously that’s my experience but sorry it’s 2’990Ft and it’s a bit sad. The service fee of 10.35% was automatically added to the bill.

Veeeeryyy tasty food! We ordered a chicken soup for a child, for husband a Brooklyn burger and for me turkey breast fillet with olive-Camembert sauce. For the desert it was a Somloi galuska. Everything was perfect!
