This place is something very special! You can also make a reservation to stay at the Abbey where the nuns slept and the rooms are absolutely breathtaking, beautiful, have excellent views and is a uniquely French experience. The moment you step on the grounds here, you feel as if you are entering a space that has a long rich history. There is always something going on here year round. Probably the best time to visit the Abbaye to the Ladies of Saintes would be in the summer when the Saintes Music Festival is happening. I went there during summer and had the time of my life there and also in the spring. Even during the summer season I did not feel this place was crowded or distracting the serenity of the town. There is also a lot of great restaurants nearby and if you are lucky to stay long enough, there's an amazing farmers market outside withing a 5-10 minute walk where you'll find out sorts of hidden gems.

Yesterday, 14/07/2019 a lot of people were dancing near Abbey. It was amazing, fantastic! 'Cause the dances were folk, old like 500 years ago.

Make sure if you get an audio it is clearly explained. My audio battery ran out shortly after starting the tour. Being on a tight timeframe, I couldn't catch my wife and returned the audio and waited for my wife to finish the tour. Disappointingly, they were unwilling to provide a refund.

The Basilica of Saint Eutrope in Saintes, a historic church dating back to 1096, is dedicated to the first martyr of Saintes, Saint Eutropius. It is also home to an adjoining Benedictine abbey and served as a significant stop along the pilgrimage route of Saint James of Compostella. The church boasts a fascinating crypt located beneath it, known as the lower church, where pilgrims would visit the tomb of Saint Eutrope.
A beautiful basilica for the first saint in Saintes, Eutrope! I liked visiting this place because it gave me a deeper appreciation for the history that has made Saintes the town it is today. It’s amazing that this structure has lasted for so long! It is a little muggy feeling but it is not unbearable. I definitely hope that this structure will continue to last forever!

Beautiful old historic church. Under restauration in the day of visiting, so no services. Don't cheat yourself of visiting the crypt underneath the church. It is literally a church beneath the church. The lower church for the Pilgrims who wanted to visit the tomb of Saint Eutrope. It's an eerie and somewhat surreal experience to walk around in there. A bonus on top is that it's nicely cool on hot days.

The Gallo-Roman amphitheatre of Saintes is an amazing remnant of our long ago past. We rented the audio guides (available in English and French) and spent a fascinating 45 minutes immersing ourselves in history and architecture. Don't miss the photo exhibition on the outer wall; just follow the green line around to the back of the Accueil building. It shows photos of all the phases of the amphitheatre for the last 200 or 300 years. There is an ingenious picnic table to enable someone in a wheelchair to pull up under the top and enjoy a meal at a table. Brilliant idea.

A small Amphitheater with printed information in English. Very friendly staff and definitely worth a visit.
Chia-chen Lehahn — Google review
If you have watched the popular series of “Spartacus” or have read the Roman Empire’s history, this arena makes a perfect sense of how the Romans used to entertain themselves and enjoy the show while punishing the culprits. A must-visit monument in Saintes. The entry costs around €2 per visitor.
Assad Sharifi — Google review
The interior was under construction and submerged in water, so I saw it from the outside. Of all the Roman amphitheaters I've seen, it was the place that felt the passage of time the most.
김TH — Google review
Cool place, only 4e to get in, cash or card. Friendly staff. Very historic place.

Interesting ruins of the oldest amphitheatre in Gallo-Romain France. Very cheap to visit, so absolutely worth it to get a sense of history. It is a quick visit on the trail through Saintes.
Pia Klit — Google review
The construction limited what we could do to some degree, but overall the site was amazing. I can't wait to come back and see when it is all repaired!!!
Richard Von Stetten — Google review
Scam, just as many other reviews say. You pay for entry, but can't visit anything at all due to construction works. Views are even better from outside. This should be closed or at least free entry as long as the works are going on. Don't waste your time on this one! Honestly, renovated parts look worse than the original parts.
Mark Vanhalle — Google review
The construction is significant and it feels as though they're making it a bit too much like an amusement park, but hopefully when they're done there will be more education. We declined to pay and simply enjoyed from outside.
Cary Mcwhorter — Google review
So gorgeous! The fares to get in are so cheap I couldn’t believe it and although the monument is currently undergoing reconstruction, this doesn’t take away from its impressive features and intriguing history. If you haven’t been before I would definitely recommend for all ages- definitely better on a sunny day though as a party from the cafe and gift shop all is outdoors!
Poppy Mills — Google review
Brill a couple of hrs spent looking around this romain amphitheatre. And it's renovation .eell worth the visit as there's other sites around sainte to see .

I visited this place back in March 2019 and had a really good time. It’s fun to see the unique history that Saintes has, or of any town for that matter. While visiting, it’s fun to imagine what it might have been like to be in Saintes when the Romans first got there. Definitely walk the grounds! It’s like you are being a part of Greek Theatre!

La Terrasse, a restaurant in Saintes, France, welcomed a group of Americans late at night with exceptional patience and kindness. With its breathtaking view and delicious cuisine, it became their favorite meal of the entire 10-day trip. This town restaurant embodied everything one would expect in winter - cozy ambiance, friendly staff, and a warm welcome until late hours. This place stood out among the best restaurants they visited within the last four days around Bordeaux with its superb quality food and reasonable prices.
My wife, and 2 other Americans got into Saintes very late. This was one of the options still open. The staff was exceptionally patient and kind with us as we tried our French out. The view is stunning and the food great. My favorite meal of the entire 10 day trip!!!!

Possibly one of the best dining experiences in Saintes . Everything a town restaurant should be in winter...cozy, friendly and somewhere you are welcome until late. In summer, the restaurant is buzzing and a seat on the upper outside terrace allows you to watch the river and its traffic flow past the 2000 year old Arc de Germanicus.

We didn't had a reservation and asked if we can sit on the terrace upstairs as it had a nice view. Said we can from the the sever downstairs but the one upstairs was reluctant. Gave us a table but we only wanted a drink. We took an entree as well. He seemed a bit upset about it. The whole atmosphere seemed tense. A server girl walking around seemed quite rude. Been more stressed than relaxed. Too bad as the view is nice. However, my compliments to the chef. The entree was great!

Le Relais Du Bois Saint-Georges, a luxury hotel located in the heart of France's beautiful Saint-Georges Park, offers guests an elegant and relaxing escape. The property boasts an indoor pool, a stylish restaurant and landscaped gardens, making it the perfect destination for a weekend getaway or an indulgent long stay. The hotel is conveniently located just off the motorway and is alsoclose to several attractions including the Palace of Versailles and Disneyland Paris.
Highly recommended. A perfect stop-off close to the motorway. Our room was very comfortable with a lovely terrace, where we enjoyed breakfast. The restaurant is INCREDIBLE - the quality of the food, stylish and original presentation and friendly service deserve a Michelin star in our view. We will be back! Mark & Maxi
Mark Threipland — Google review
The hotel has no lift. The rooms are small and very tired with bizarre decor. The chef seems to be obsessed by the look of the food and is utterly unable to provide any flavour. A tasteless dish of scallops was ruined further by the addition of citronella gel that tastes like insect repellent. Breakfast served in a basket is just ok but very limited in choices. I would never return. The indoor pool is freezing cold. I don’t have a Tesla so no reason to visit this place again. However, the staff are very friendly and helpful.

If you can, stay here. We booked last minute, on our return to UK. Everything was so relaxing and easy. We had tea (you won't believe the selection!) on the terrace overlooking the duck pond when we first arrived. Despite being close to our main route, the silence was perfect. The restaurant overlooks the garden, too, with all the walls on that side of the hotel being immense picture windows. Dinner was impeccable, beginning with a seasonal cocktail and the most delicious selection of amuse bouche, so thoughtfully and artistically presented. I cannot recommend the food highly enough, made all the more wonderful with the friendly, smiling service. The bed was really comfy, great shower and a perfectly private balcony again overlooking the delightful garden. Our pre-ordered breakfast choices were presented in a basket with lovely, local touches and an enormous, delicious pain au chocolate. We sat by the window and were treated to the antics of a red squirrel, a heron, ducks and a mischief of magpies. Honestly. Just stay here. Thank you to the lovely staff for making us welcome on our long journey. Allison.

Ideal for a stop over en route the Channel ports. Very close to motorway. We finished our holiday with a meal in the hotel which was very good. Swimming pool (indoor) was very inviting & grounds to stretch legs. Some quirky design features.

We've supercharged at this hotel many times. This afternoon travelling back to our place in the Vendée from Spain, we once again stopped here to charge the Tesla. We went to sit outside to order some drinks. Unfortunately we were totally ignored by the waiting staff. In fact a young man who'd been serving others actuality started cleaning the table next to us! But didn't come to us to take our order. One word really to describe it, and that's just rude! We'll be supercharging at the nearby hypermarket location in the future.

We stayed at Le Relais Du Bois Saint George for only one night. It was a fabulous find. The hotel is full of surprises once you get through the doors. We had a family room with two double beds. The bedroom was designed in two levels. There were hidden stairs to take you to the second level. Downstairs we had a huge St George on a horse on top of our bed, while upstairs there was a dragon coming out from the wall. It was an unexpected designed but beautifully done which kept us looking behind corner trying to find the next surprise for s good hour. I have only given four star for the amazing room only because the shower did not have a curtain or a door. For a family room I would have expected to see a door in the shower. But we managed well and will definitely return to the hotel. The staff were very helpful. We had an incident in the road which delayed our journey for several hours, but they kept the reception open until we arrived. We had a quick walk around through the gardens before we set off. They are beautiful too.
maria gonzalez — Google review
The staff are so helpful our car broke down while charging, we hadn’t booked and they found a lovely room for us at basic price. The a la carte menu was delicious, surprising combinations of flavors and ingredients combined with complex invigorating wines. The grounds are beautiful, well lit too and a stroll after the meal in the warm summer weather helped us forget our car issue.

We are never disappointed at the Clos decours restaurant. Today as always a fine express menu of high quality fresh food. Good atmosphere and as an invalid I feel very well cared for with help whenever I need it. The chef is second to none and in my opinion is the very best fish cook in Saintes. Christmas day lunch here , there should have been 5 of us but one took ill in the morning and could not come . the reaction of the female owner was awful , cold and rude insisting that we paid ....in full for the person who was unable to come. The meal was nice but somewhat tarnished by the total lack of Christmas cheer from the owner . No fuss was made about paying for the empty place although I did ask to take away what should have been eaten at the table which I did think could be re-heated unfortunately this type of food should really be eaten freshly served , the owner would have known this and had no shame charging 46 euros , Dreadful , nice food shame about the owner , never going there again

This restaurant was about 600 meters from our Hotel F1. I got the Double Cheese hamburger which has two slices of meat and is served with a pot of fries and some salad and tomatoes. The Burger was very good and the fries were just right. The salad was fresh and tasty. My friend had enchiladas. Those are served with wraps where you put the meat and vegetables in. It was also very good. As dessert I had a Moeilleux au Chocolate which was fine but I've had better ones of those. They did put it in the oven and not in a microwave. My friend had and Irish coffee which was also fine. The biggest complaint I have and the reason I only gave it 3 stars instead of 4 was that the service was a bit chaotic. We got 2 persons serving our table instead of one (one of the 2 was in training I learned later). After our order was taken it took a while before we got our drinks (a got a bottle of perrier so that shouldn't take too long). After we finished our main meal we were asked 5 times (not joking) if we wanted dessert by the 2 different waiters. So there was no communication between them and they did not seem to understand that we just wanted to let our main course rest a bit before we got to the dessert. Normally I would think the French would get that. But if they fix those issues I would easily give it 4 stars and would certainly recommend it. The restaurant is very stylish and cozy and the staff is friendly though. FYI : If you eat or drink there for more than 20 euros you get a free entrance pass for the dancing next door.

Le Batiâ is an exceptional eatery conveniently located near a historic landmark from the Roman era. The cuisine and wine are excellent, and the personnel are proficient in English for those lacking in French language skills. The river view is splendid. If you desire a typical continental meal, I suggest trying the burger or tuna. Alternatively, if you crave a more diverse dining experience, the beef tartar is absolutely outstanding. I highly recommend this restaurant!

An amazing restaurant situated right next to a historical landmark dating back to the Roman era. The food and wine are great and the staff speak English, if (like me) your French leaves a lot to be desired. The view of the river is great. If you are looking for a typical continental lunch/dinner, I'd recommend the burger or the tuna. Conversely, if you're after a more eclectic meal, the beef tartar is mind-blowing.
