Landshut

Landshut is a city straddling the River Isar in Bavaria, southern Germany. It’s known for the medieval Trausnitz Castle, with its views across the old town. Within the castle is the Chamber of Art and Curiosities, displaying artifacts collected by the Wittelsbach dukes. In the old town, Gothic St. Martin’s Church has a tall brick tower. Close to the Isar is the Ländtor, a gate from the town’s medieval fortifications.

Trausnitz Castle, built in the 13th century, is located on a hill overlooking Landshut. It features a vaulted hall and chapel, as well as a museum showcasing unusual artworks and curiosities. The castle was constructed for the Wittelsbach dukes, with building work commencing in 1204. Visitors can reach the castle via a steep path from Altstadt. Inside, guests can admire the stunning architecture and interiors while enjoying views of the surrounding area.
Not easy to find with the car when you would try to find signs but Google maps can guide you :-) They have a nice restaurant in the castle (build in 1204) where you also can sit outside and have a great view over the city Landshut. It’s a beautiful city with a historical center and many different beautiful shops.
Royal Mangalitsa — Google review
Castle that has been the families' seat of the Wittelsbacher for centuries. Unfortunately the majority of historic building substance has been lost due to the fire in 1961. So you can visit the rebuild castle with some saved originals and lots of blank walls. Overall rather good and a nice place to see. Some beautiful views over the surrounding area are also possible. Pricing is fair (5,50 € / adult).
David S. K. Muessle — Google review
Originally built in 1205, the original seat of Bavaria. The grounds alone are worth the stroll

Nice short hike from the bottom of the city Center. A nice museum shop, I didn’t go inside the museum. I enjoyed the view a lot. The weather was clear. There wasn’t much going on at the hour I went. Maybe there is in other seasons. Recommended trip. To park the car is tricky in the Center.

Beautiful and well-kept castle on a hill above the city. For free you can visit the courtyard or you can walk around in the park and enjoy an amazing views of the historic center of Landshut. The tour of the interior is only in German, but there are texts in other languages. When you go by car, follow the signs in the city !!! Address of the castle in navigation led to the tunnel under the castle.

A vast and well taken cared Castle on a hill over looking Landshut. We visited during Christmas and had a private tour of the castle. The gentleman tour guide was well informed about the castle. The tour was in German only and I got a lamented sheet with English information to each room which was a nice gesture. Gorgeous architecture, rooms, interiors and view. The ticket office / shop was great. Bought a few books. There is also a restaurant on the property. Highly recommend.

A beautiful old castle on the hill above Landshut with a great history and views. Worth the visit of only just for the outside. There's a big park too

Walking up the path to the castle from town in about 10-15 minutes. It’s steep but has a paved path. Very nice views from on top, with a restaurant. If you drive up there’s a parking lot. There’s also a WC in the courtyard. Didn’t do a tour, but they have one. The castle was founded in 1204 by Duke Ludwig l. The castle and its views are a highlight while visiting Landshut.

The tallest brick building in the world…This brick building height is 130 metres. It is one of the medieval church in Bavaria. It is built in Gothic style. If you suddenly come across this beauty in the middle of the night, you may feel like a character of an extraordinary story. ✨💫🌙🧚🏻‍♀️💒
Gulnur Gursan — Google review
It is the church with the tallest brick tower in the entire world, it looks quite spectacular, especially in contrast to the rest of the surrounding buildings which are pretty low. On the inside there are currently some renovations done (2019.04.06), so one can’t really enjoy the inside as much.

Really nice and special compared to other churches I visited in Bavaria
SHAHRYAR hoseinbeygi — Google review
This is the landmark of Landshut, and there are less chances of anyone missing it from any part of town centre. The church is made of bricks, and 2nd tallest brick structure in the world. As with most churches in Bavaria and to most of Germany, the architecture style is Gothic. It has got a huge crucifix hanging from the roof directly above the altar. For me it was the biggest indoor cross I had seen. It's a good time to see all through year around, and gives Landshut Town Centre a definitive face. It does go without saying that visiting the church during mass is not allowed. A must see place in Landshut.

A must-see attraction in Lower Bavaria, particularly Landshut, Germany, is the Ländtor Landshut. This prominent historical landmark dates back to the 14th century and is the only surviving gate from the city's former fortifications. Situated near a shopping mall today, it once defended access to Landshut from the Isar River crossing. As an iconic symbol of medieval architecture, this massive fortress within the city offers easy visibility and accessibility for tourists visiting the area.

Very nice area to see while visiting the city. The gate is located next to the river promenade and through the gate you are into the altstadt area with food and shopping. There are WC’s next to the river here. The medieval Ländtor and the Burghauser Tor on the Alte Bergstraße, are the only gate buildings that have survived from once 8 city gates.

Bavarian restaurant
Augustiner an der St. Martinskirche is a laid-back tavern that offers classic Bavarian dishes such as schnitzel and pork knuckle, along with tap beer. Located next to the St. Martinkirche, this traditional restaurant provides a fitting atmosphere and great quality food. The staff deserves special recognition for their hard work during the LAHO event, ensuring everyone's needs are met.
As a half German whole English speaker this place did a great job of helping me and my broken German get by! Proper local Bavarian pub vibes, great atmosphere, great food and the most delicious beer you come to expect here ! Great place for rubbish German speakers in town! I’ll be back!

Highly recommend this Bavarian restaurant tucked in behind the church. We ate downstairs and in spite of not booking, the kind waiter went out of his way to find us a table. The food was plentiful and delicious and the beer excellent.

I was today at this nice spot, that I found on... hell yeah, nowhere else but Google Maps.😁 As it was one of the best evaluated spots in #Landshut, and the one with #Augustiner beer, that I really wanted to try. And that was a perfect shot! I did have a great, tender, crispy and delicious piece of pork, that's been done in a typical Lower Bavarian way. It's called "Niederbayerischer Krustenbraten". IT WAS FANTASTIC. FABULOUS. DELICIOUS. 🥩🍻👍🏻 And of course a very good #Augustiner beer, that made it complete and made me happy!! 🍻😎🇩🇪💪🏻 "Up, I did it again..."!! 🙈🙊😂👍🏻 I was there yet again today once I only arrived to Landshut and yet again I had the best ever Bavarian classic Krustenbraten!! And of course, again it was fabulous and delicious...!!😋🥩🔥👌🏻 Update after another visit in April 2023: This time I got only a small hunger, so decided to give it a try and ordered a local Bavarian style soup called Brezensuppe. And it is a soup with sliced Weißwurst (white pork sausage) and sliced pretzel (in Bavarian dialect it's Breze). The 🍲 is really good 👍🏻 and one gets a really big bowl 🥣 of a "Niederbayerischer Suppe". 🤌🏻🇩🇪💯 And of course HAD TO GET Augustiner. Here it's a MUST! Great beer!! 🍺 ❤️‍🔥🤘🏻

Greek restaurant
I have dined at numerous Greek restaurants in Germany in the past, but Pallas stands out as a remarkable establishment. The ambiance is pleasant, with a friendly and attentive staff. However, what sets this restaurant apart is its exceptional cuisine. I indulged in a mixed platter of delectable meats that exceeded expectations. The garlic bread starter was perfectly balanced, showcasing its freshness and flavorful seasoning.
I have eaten at lots of different Greek restaurants in Germany before, but this one was at a different level for sure. Nice atmosphere, friendly and attentive staff but most importantly extremely good food. I had a mixed plate of some meats which didn't disappoint at all. The starter of garlic bread was just right, very fresh and well seasoned. A chocolate sufflé was one of the best desserts I ever had in my life period, a perfect conclusion to a fantastic dining experience. If I have to say something negative it can only be remarked that the prices are a bit on the high side. Lucky for me I was being invited today! 😀 Very much recommended indeed, will come again when I'm in Landshut next time.

The Wirtshaus zum Hofreiter in Landshut is a traditional Bavarian restaurant offering indoor and outdoor seating. It serves authentic German cuisine, including sausages, soups, roasted pork and schnitzel. The beer selection is impressive and the prices are reasonable. The atmosphere is charmingly old-fashioned with decor that hasn't changed over time. This local eatery comes highly recommended for tourists seeking an authentic Bavarian dining experience.
Really nice local restaurant! Good beer, good food, good price. Don't even think about anything else.

Typical bavarian, rustikal restaurant surrounding the food with a selection choice of local beers. The food served was well cooked and presented. The restaurant itself is well situated in the heart of the downtown of Landshut . Bottomline, clear recommendation!

When you're in Bavaria, eat Bavarian food. In the sea of restaurants in Landshut, we were looking for a traditional one. And we found exactly what we were looking for and expected. We ate various sausages, soups, schwinebraten and wienschnitzel. We drank white beers, the food was great, the beer even better. Middle-aged waitress cold as ice, exactly as we expected. The decoration is traditional, as if time has stood still. As tourists we definitely recommend this place

The Butcher is a steak house that serves high-quality and delicious steaks. It can accommodate wheelchair access and prams with its three levels of dining, although the toilets are only accessible on the lower level. The restaurant is located in a passage between a baby shop and Alexa womenswear. Unfortunately, they no longer open for lunch on weekdays, which could be seen as a loss for diners visiting Landshut.
Excellent service and fantastic food 👌. Staff were great, especially given that we knew very little German. Will go back again soon.
Howard Waldman — Google review
Before the arrival, I had some normal expectations for eating a steak, but again with a dose that it will be something special. However, the meat and groceries are quality but the execution for me was a little below the level that a steakhouse should meet. The ambiance and space look great, the staff is ok.
Blaz Sokic — Google review
Steak is of good quality and very tasty. We were 3 people, 2 ordered steak filet and ribeye and one ordered lamb … excellent! Side orders are separate which makes the whole meal quite expensive. Although one must consider the fact that prices have recently increased everywhere and if you want good beef, you need to pay for it. Service was good, very efficient. Dining is on three levels, so wheelchair access and prams can be accommodated however, the toilets are on the lower level, no lift. The entrance to the restaurant is in the passage between the baby shop and Alexa womenswear. On my recent visit, I noticed that they are no longer open on weekdays for lunch. While I understand the reasons, it’s a serious loss for diners visiting Landshut.
