Gardens
Belper River Gardens is a picturesque park that boasts of stunning gardens and the soothing sound of horse shoe falls. Visitors can explore the Mill Museum, which unfortunately will be shutting down in the summer due to lack of funds. Despite bad weather, visitors find the area intriguing, with its charming café serving hot coffee and cake. The park offers something for everyone, including boat and pedalo hire for aquatic adventures and a delightful tearoom to unwind in after an exciting day out.
Beautiful gardens and gentle sou d of horse shoe falls. Visit the Mill museum whilst it is still open and unfortunately will close in the summer due to funding being withdrawn.

Pleasantly laid out linear gardens on edge of town with a riverside promenade, traditional bandstand, café (nice but slightly pricey), and rowing boats or pedalos to hire in summer. The row upstream is peaceful - no powered craft, woodland and meadow banks, and very little current as this section of the river Derwent was effectively a huge millpond for the former cotton mills complex downstream by the big weir.
Nicholas Barfield — Google review
The Belper River Gardens is lovely, free parking as you go past the river gardens and you can park right next to the gardens where you can pay for parking. There is a band stand there and in the summer months various bands play on a Sunday afternoon. There are plenty of benches. In the summer they hire out boats on the river. I took my granddaughter there, who is 5, after playing on the playground. We went to the cafe. She chose a hot chocolate (they do not do a children's one .. only an infant one babychino). My granddaughter tasted it and said it was too sweet. The system is you order and pay, and then they give you a little device that flashes when your drink(s) are ready for you to collect. If you order any food, they deliver to the table. When I went to collect the drinks, the couple on the next table had a large dog, which was stood up. I was sat near the window, near entrance to the toilets, which was fine. As I walked back towards my table with a tray with 2 large glass cups on it, the guy with the dog wasn't about to rein it in, so I had to manoeuvre round the dog and there is not a lot of room!! I'm not against dogs but maybe the owners sometimes need the training 🤔 😬., we should all respect each other. When my food was delivered. I asked the young waiter for a knife, and he said you can get one from behind him, as the dog was in the way, I asked the waiter to pass me one.. he did begrudgingly. Service is not that good... I know it's not a restaurant, but a little bit of helpful service wouldn't go amiss. A little bit pricey for me, (1 latte, 1 hot chocolate, 1 tea cake and toast with jam £12) especially when the hot chocolate wasn't drank as it was so sweet (it tasted like one of those drinks you make with hot water) and although I said it was for a child but they served it in a large glass cup. (I think the reason being all staff are quite young.) I didn't see anyone from the kitchen). But the place was quite busy and seems to be popular. From looking at my photos the name of the cafe is The Swift Tea rooms. But the setting is good, and there is some outdoor seating overlooking the river. The river is very high at the moment but makes for good photos.

Great Location for a Picnic. Take a folding Chair as the Geese make a mess of the grass. Lovely view of the river. well worth parking in Field Lane car park as well and taking a walk up King street. Parking is reasonably priced and on the flat. A tree lined path at the side of Poundland takes you out into the Pedestranized King street. Great varaiety of cafes and shops. Turn left up the hill and on the right you will find the Memorial Gardens. Filled with a great flower display . See Photos

Absolutely beautiful place and also very historic due to East mill that one time was powered by the river Derwent and is a fantastic piece of architecture.

Lovely space to walk around, makes a handy break from driving if you don't fancy the bustling town centre of Belper. It is as the name suggests, next to the river so a tight rein / close eye should be keep on small children at all times.

Love spending time at the beautiful River Gardens! The historic mills create a stunning backdrop, and the river Derwent flows through. You can have so much fun feeding the geese, ducks, gulls and pigeons. The pigeons will land on you if you stay still, so if you would rather not entertain them at such close quarters, keep walking as you feed. There's a somewhat famous limping goose - she's a Greylag X Canada goose that the locals have christened Camilla. She hisses at you loudly for food and pokes her tongue out, and she loves to peck all the other birds away too. So don't be fooled by her limp - she's a feisty bird! There's a very nice cafe in the gardens and it's a fabulous spot to sit and while the time away. The River Gardens are not really a tourist attraction as such - they're more for locals to enjoy I'd say. They're just a thoroughly nice place to relax and enjoy the water, the history, the wildlife, and a cuppa and cob 🙂👍🏼

Beautiful calm space with a lovely circular walk along the water with ample place to picnic and a beautiful bandstand. There is also a playground for younger ones. Be sure to visit the lovely little cafe with a selection of hot and cold drinks and sandwiches. Very friendly staff. Parking is reasonable. Beware when feeding the ducks. They are quite fiesty and aggressive. Beautiful all year round. Limited free parking to the front near the abandoned building.

I am a local photographer and this is one of my most favourite haunts. Its somewhere I always suggest to my clients as a location for family, pet or even wedding preshoots. I have even done a wedding shoot here. Stunning grounds, very well kept!

I have visited this place on one occasion, with 5 others . When ordering 3 of us wanted the 3 course meals , which was completed, only to be told that this was not possible unless all 6 of us ordered the same ,which 3 of them didn't want to do , so we ordered a one course meal . This was around £23 and would have a better value at the 3 course for £25 . It was noticed later on that it said on the menu that only 2 people needed to order the 3 course meal to be available, but when we pointed this out to another member of staff , he was confused and we couldn't understand why we were refused the 3 course meal, by this time the meal came to us with Duck that was not ordered on the one course meal , that went back , and I had a drink of port , which had ice in it !!!!!!!!!! Please make sure you try and order correctly between one course and the 3 course option , as for us they made it very confusing, why we couldn't have had the 3 course option with no real explanation. Disappointed and will not be going back . Pity really as the food was good .

Cotton mill
The Strutt's North Mill Museum is a small, but fascinating, tourist attraction which is based in a former cotton mill and features interactive exhibits about the industrial revolution. It is currently threatened with closure due to funding shortages, but supporters hope that private sponsorship can be found to keep it open.
Enjoyed a guided tour of the world's first fire proof building. Unfortunately this piece of history will be closing down thanks to the council. I would recommend a visit asap it really is interesting and made informative by the guides. Hopefully all the movable artifacts and machinery will find a new home and carry on being displayed elsewhere. The walks and tours include inside and outside the mills, the river gardens, long row, nail shop and Joseph street. We spent an hour on the mill tour and a further hour browsing the artifacts and information. Drinks are available in the foyer along with souvenirs, books, information leaflets. Free car park. Admission is £5 which gives a year pass, and Derbyshire day out discounts.

A truly excellent museum. Very interesting, if you want to see it within its original location then see it before they close on that site in September 2022. If anyone can give them about £60k for the rent each year then please do so.

Absolutely fabulous, history in one building a must for people to see. Unfortunately unless they can find a company willing to help keep our heritage alive it will close in September. Our past soon to be forgotten. Please anyone out there that could help keep our textile history alive please contact the wonderful staff.

100% would recommend a visit. Shame its closing down as a museum i really hope the building and the machinery are saved and looked after. Closes end of sept 2022 so if you can id go visit before it does so. Brilliant guided tour by a volunteer with machines I've not seen before then joined a walking tour outside of the mill which was also brilliant £8 each for both tours. Even got to have a go at some machines ! Free parking in carpark outside entrance

A fascinating tour by David in a museum that lets you see how cotton was spun and learn the history of the factory and surrounding area. Visiting the basement floor and looking at where the workings were was really interesting. Apparently this museum is under threat of closure which is a great pity though not a huge surprise really because it wasn't very visible around Belper aaaaaand the parking seemed a bit of an afterthought. Still, it was wonderful wandering in the sunshine around the lanes nearby where workers lived.

We had a wonderful guided tour of this small museum which is based in a couple of rooms in the original mill plus the basement and water wheel pit. Really interesting but its in danger of closing as the local council have withdrawn funding and the buildings owners want to turn it all into offices. They need your support.

Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site An informative and educational visit to the above proved to be a great day out learning about local history and the Strutts family. Great to visit as a kind of family tour of local mills, the history all ties in together nicely to form the bigger picture of the mills.

We were not able to go in the mill due to flooding but that didn't matter at all. The two guides were knowledgeable and happy to answer all our questions. They brought the mills and their long history to life. I'd now like to know even more so will be back again for sure.

The Ritz Cinema in Belper is a stylishly decorated cinema that offers both comfortable sofa seating and a variety of blockbuster films. With its Art Deco hall, originally built in 1882, the cinema has a rich history, having served as a meeting hall, library, and even a court before becoming a cinema in 1919.
A small independent cinema which is much more welcoming and cosy. They have a bar for alcoholic drinks and even hot beverages such as tea and coffer if driving. The snack choices are great and even have selections of cakes. I am now a member as I prefer this kind of cinema as opposed to a big corporate chain/company.

What an experience!!! What a cinema!!! 💯% definitely worth a visit!!! We came here 6 years ago for our first date, and last night we returned ↩️. An amazing quaint little cinema in the heart of Belper. Completely under estimated, under rated and under sold. It’s great going to the ‘normal’ showcase or IMAX etc, but nothing beats the experience of a 1935 cinema, with a sofa and hot chocolate in mugs! (The Hot Chocolate is Beautiful) ☕️. If you’d like a sofa they are limited, so booking in advance is definitely necessary. 🛋️ It’s £22 for a sofa which a bargain! Yes, I know you can get recliners elsewhere, 🙄, but a super soft comfortable sofa is just perfection! The Ritz Cinema is easy to find with parking less than 50metres away. 🅿️ 🚘 With reasonable parking charges too. The cinema has been very well maintained, the staff are super friendly and take pride in the ‘Gem’💎 they have, looking after it to a very high standard. (You could eat your dinner off the Toilet Floor 🚽 🚻 ) … and when was the last time you used a flannel to dry your hands in a public toilet? (I Loved this idea ❤️🫶🏽) The whole experience is just superb! As a top tip, be sure to watch a longer film 🎥 🎞️ so you get to stay longer 😉 Ritz Cinema also only have a selection of films. One movie at a time, 1 room and one screen 📺! Try to watch a film that has that old fashioned set, like Titanic or La La land for example, it makes the visit much more interesting. Enjoy 😉 💫
Trehan — Google review
Just to highlight how good this experience was I will start by telling you that based on other cinema experiences, I hate cinemas. I have sensory issues and struggle to concentrate on a film, just waiting for it to be over. But no more! The cinema is so cute with one screen and the ticket office is also the bar and snack counter. Amazingly clean, well decorated, and with super attentive and friendly staff, we collected our tickets and refreshments and were directed upstairs to the screen. My partner and I had chosen a sofa between us, which was very well priced, and we couldn't see a single other person in the screen even though they were definitely there. We shared a bottle of wine and felt like we were at home the entire time. Part way through the film I needed the bathroom and was amazed by the free sanitary products on the back of the toilet, individual fabric hand towels for customers to dry hands on, and even a body spray to use!! I usually try to avoid the cinema but after this experience I'm waiting for the next film to come out that I'd like to see, just for an excuse to return. Thank you so much for showing me what cinemas are all about, I'll never step foot in a multiplex again.
Meg Young — Google review
Always an absolute pleasure to see films here. Small, personal and friendly. It's a proper treat unlike the big cinemas. Staff are lovely, coffee and cake are lovely 😁 I love the seats and for an extra special treat it's nice to share a sofa. I honestly can't fault this cinema ❤️
Tracy Clarke — Google review
I would always give this venue a 5 star rating simply because as a smaller independent cinema, it is so much better than the big commercial cinema chains. We often have a sofa, which needs to be booked well in advance, because the experience is similar to viewing a film at home with a giant screen to view. The snacks and drinks are always reasonably good value and being able to have a cup of tea or a glass of wine or both while watching the film is a great option. Advice is always to book so that you can get the seating you want, especially true for the sofas.
John White — Google review
First time going today with the kids. We got a sofa and the 3 of us fit comfortably. We took a big blanket to get snuggly. The screen is big and the entire cinema is clean and welcoming. The staff were lovely and the prices for food and drink were really reasonable! A sofa is £24 We saw 'Wish' today. 5 stars all round!

I took my granddaughter to see Robin hood the Panto... she loved it. The ritz cinema is children friendly. It is a lovely small cinema and has 4 settees, several luxury seats at the back of the cinema. And all the seats are purple. The staff are lovely. It is at the top of King Street in Belper. I have been several times.

We moved to Belper last November and tonight's showing of "Anatomy of a Fall" at The Ritz was my first time in the theater. The film was exceptionally good, intriguing as expected, but I also loved the theater itself and the fact that there were people rather than robot kiosks doing the everyday operations, including ushering the members of the audience to their seats. It is a characterful place and being there brought back memories of similar quality, characterful experiences, for example at the incomparable Fox Theater in Detroit, Michigan, when I was 16. The Ritz is truly a gem in Belper!

Been once and loved it. Friendly and personal service that is much better than what you get from large chains. The Derwent Valley Mills are a UNESCO-listed World Heritage Site and home to several museums. The cotton mills offer glimpses into life during the Industrial Revolution, and include Cromford Mill, one of the first purpose-built housing in the world, as well as Belper Mill, once described as the best in England.
Despite the closure of the museum there are lots of interpretation signs across the whole site to explain the Mill, weir, gardens and houses. Plus lovely garden with a well maintained children's playground with a story of its own

I love this building and have had the pleasure of doing some cleaning on ground level. This building intrigues me , I love old buildings and would love to explore the rest of it. It has a beautiful walk just around the other side. It has parking and there is a really nice little food hut in the carpark. (The food is great and lovely too) there is an ice cream van just near the water too . Great history to this building

The Derwent Valley in central England contains a series of 18th- and 19th- century cotton mills and an industrial landscape of high historical and technological interest. The modern factory owes its origins to the mills at Cromford, where Richard Arkwright's inventions were first put into industrial-scale production. The workers' housing associated with this and the other mills remains intact and illustrate the socio-economic development of the area. The gardens are worth a visit as well.

Restaurant
The River Garden Cantonese Restaurant is a well-established and family-operated Chinese eatery on Bridge Street in Belper. It offers an upscale dining experience with a focus on Cantonese-style cuisine. The restaurant also provides take-away services, including delivery. Recently visited by a group of nine people, the restaurant made a great impression with its delicious all-you-can-eat buffet featuring freshly prepared dishes, setting it apart from other places that often serve pre-made food that lacks flavor.
Been today for the first time as a group of 9. Was really impressed, fantastic all you can eat food freshly prepared for you rather than having prepared stuff like most places that never really taste that great. The only downside I could think is that if there was only a couple of you, you would probably not be able to try so many things (unless the portions are smaller for smaller bookings). It was empty when we went in and it deserves to be fully booked, so support it and keep it going. Fantastic and will be back
Anthony Smith — Google review
We’ve not long moved to Belper, and with a Chinese takeaway meal being a regular choice for us, we were keen to find somewhere good. This more than delivered. All of the dishes were fresh hot, and perfectly seasoned. We ordered the soft noodles (plain chow mein), chicken chow mein, shredded chicken in garlic and chilli, and banana fritters. All exceptional, incredibly fresh and delicious. We ordered on a Friday night - online form said 45 minutes. It arrived a little later than predicted, but I called the restaurant and the person who answered the phone was lovely and kept me updated. She also called me back when the food left for delivery, which was a really nice touch and much appreciated. Overall a fantastic meal, amazing service and two very happy and full bellies. Thanks so much. We’ll definitely be back soon :)

Ordered a take away on the website, said 45 mins. Left it for 1hour 10 mins and rang and asked where it was. They said they had inidcated 75 mins, then told me it was next to be cooked!!!!! How could it be cooked and delivered on time? When I said that I was not impresed they immediately cancelled the order, thus showing that no way would it be even on time from their story. Money taken immediately from me, but said will take 3 to 5 days to return to me. Then they cancelled my account on the web saying I had violated their conditions. I had ordered from them for several years, so if you have no problems they love you!!! But if you complain you "violate their conditions"! DO NOT TRUST THIS LOT, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. Listening to, not abusing your customers is a good way to start. ———- Reply to Rivergardens response Utter lies. I have never complained before in the years that I ordered from you or eaten in the restaurant with friends, on the contrary I have recommended to others! 1. You said next to be cooked, not that it was ready! So how it could have got to me, even in your timeframe is a clear untruth on your behalf! 2. I then said following your response on my call that I would place a negative review and their tone went from bad to worse. Not to intimidate, but to show dissatisfaction! Your reply to this in your diatribe appears to back this up. 3. Libellous comment that I have previously been rude/threatened your staff. A complaint and the tone and clear and precise breakdown of what my complaint was about is not “rude but factual”. 4. Do not deflect and blame the customer!
Mark Wilson — Google review
If I could leave no stars I really would. What a absolute awful experience, First of all, the blonde hair girl in there, couldn’t be any Ruder if she tried, ordered the dumplings and they came out cold in the middle and soggy/ wet on the bottom. Had the vegetarian spring rolls which had nothing inside them at all. Then ordered ribs which were cold and pink in the middle. At this point we said we didn’t want to order any mains as nothing was properly cooked and we were told that the pink / red colour inside the ribs was just fat. So all in all we got charged £25 for 1 coke, some uncooked dumplings, half cooked ribs and 6 chicken wings. Definitely wouldn’t recommend or come back. Editing our review for the response, Judging your customers when they come in is clearly something you do. The squash? I ordered a water and added a drop of squash which the lady who come over was aware of due to me having a problem with my stomach, and having certain allergies, but I made you aware of this since no one asked if we had any allergens. As for the cctv, I wouldn’t want to come back if I’m being watched on cctv constantly. We was very fair and asked to pay half for the starters rather than just walking out because I know businesses do suffer these days with the price rise so we was fair. But from your response to not only mine but other peoples reviews I wouldn’t want to come back to the restaurant,

As always a great meal, good service and good value. We do not recognise these bad reviews, we have friend who regularly comes from Leicester to eat with us there. In 30 years we have 99% great experiences. If we ever have had a problem it has been sorted promptly and pleasantly. We were rather taken back by having to pay upfront, but if you are running a business you have to protect yourself, we don't complain when Sainsbury's tag the coffee jars, and every pub chain charges for food when you order. As always the many pay for the ba behaviour of the few. I can only assume that the people complaining were eating after a pub crawl, or were ignorant like the fool that did not know what a dumpling should be like.

Very friendly and helpful when I came in to ask for some menus and about delivery. We were a party of 23 so the order was pretty large, all the food arrived within an hour, everything was very tasty and nothing was missing or wrong! Impressive for such a large order, lovely jubbly :)

So first of all the food was amazing, one of the best Chinese I have had in a long time. However though, it’s an all you can eat buffet, but the table services was shocking towards the end of my night I was left waiting for quite a while. The staff kept coming to the tables near us but never further down to the last two tables. In the end I had to go up and ask someone to come and take our order.

Small portions, mad pay up front and supplementary charges on the buffet and only menu - doesn't look like the place has Benn decorated or cleaned properly in years. Not what it once was
Chasemaster — Google review
Having a strong recommendation from friends for this restaurant which give us no regrets, although is a bit far from where we live but it's really worth it. They do the all you can eat buffet menu which is a bit different from Wing Wah or Cosmo that you need to go to pick your food from the warmer, foods will get dry for a period of time, but in this restaurant, you pick what you want from the menu then the chef will cook it fresh and the waitress will bring it to your table, that is totally awesome, you pay about the same price per head but getting so much joy while you eat, meats are so tender and tasty, we have enjoyed every bit of it, I like to say thanks to all the staffs from River Garden Restaurant in Belper. We have already booked a table on Father's day, so see you soon.

Been coming here for years but can really tell that this place isnt as popular as it used to be, no atmosphere and dining room empty, and for a friday evening. They had alot of takeaway orders which I think is whats keeping them in business. Cant really fault the food was all hot and edible, we paid upfront which is a new thing but made no odds to us either way. Only charged us for 1 child as we had 2 under 5s so that was good they did that. Im not sure I would come back or not 🤷‍♀️

Fantastic establishment. Attentive and friendly staff. Delicious food and a good beer selection. Dog friendly, being offered bowls of water and biscuits. It gets busy but that's a sign of a popular place. Keep up the good work. Parking can get full quickly but there is a large council car park not far away.

Great place to go for a drink or for food, which was excellent. The service was very good and the staff were very helpful and friendly. Plenty of outside seating area and a car park.

Family meal. Table booked for 8pm, was told there was a wait of 45mins for food. Place was packed and noisy due to all the festive gatherings. Food came earlier than expected and delicious. Staff helpful, complementary and working as a team. Best pub meal I’ve had in a long time. Sirloin steak to die for, well done chef.

I would highly recommend ‘The Devonshire’. We were quickly greeted upon entering the pub and shown to our tables. Rusty our dog was given a glass of dog biscuits and water bowl. The food was excellent, very well cooked and full of flavour. I had the Woodsman chicken with smoky sauce, chips and salad. My wife had Korean Bao buns which were equally well cooked. The staff were very friendly throughout and the pub had a nice atmosphere with some of the customers talking to us (mostly because we had a dog!).

Oh wow! I really don't know where to start apart from get yourself booked in for some amazing food! We nipped in on the off chance that they may have a table for Saturday night and they very kindly found a small table for us. We arrived at 6pm and was immediately seated, drinks order was taken straight away and the food order taken soon afterwards. We were advised there would be an hours wait for the food which was fine as we were in no rush. The lovely manager came to see us and said that if anyone didn't show up or cancelled we would be given their table which they did about 10 minutes later. The food came out bang on time and was amazing! I had the fish & chips and my partner had the hanging chicken kebab and both thoroughly enjoyed it. The drinks selection was great and we both managed to try something we'd not tried before. Thank you so much to the team, you were all brilliant and we will be back again soon to try more of your delicious food.

I was with a party of ten. We had pre-booked our order and after we had got our drinks ( Great quality real ales) ,as soon as we were seated our meals arrived. No complaints from anyone. Well done the Devonshire.

While, perhaps, not being a first choice as a drinkers' pub, The Devonshire has a lovely atmosphere and an excellent menu that transcends "pub grub" making it a great destination for lunch or dinner. There are some decent local ales on offer and a reasonably decent wine list. The staff are both friendly and patient.

We had a table pre booked for 5 pm on a Saturday night. Yeah it was busy but took over an hour for our food to come with no warning that there may be a wait on food. On the hottest day of the year couldn't of helped but all they had to do was let us know. we had to ask where I food was for it to suddenly appear. 3 out of 4 really enjoyed the food. Unfortunately the nachos was like deep fried tortilla wraps cut into triangles. Not for me. But we'd definitely return just to try the loaded chips they look amazing!

Had a great meal here, I have an allergy to something that's not in the top 14, I was very well looked after, manager Emma was very understanding and reassuring. Loved the jokes in the toilets - listening to Victoria Wood will definitely visit again. 🥰

We booked a table for 2 on a Saturday night, it was a busy evening in the pub and we waited about 45 minutes for our food. The pub was lively with groups of people on a crawl around town, so was quite loud at times. We both chose fish, one with batter and the other without, the food was hot and plentiful. The service was good and the staff attentive. Definitely a place to return to. Thank you

The food was to a very high standard with excellent choice for every course. We had no complaints and we are already looking forward to another visit.

Called in for some lunch and we had roast beef baguette with roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and gravy. It was excellent value for money at £8.50 was really nice. We sat in the courtyard in the sun which was also nice and relaxing with a beer in the sun. All 3 of the crook's family pub's are really well run and offer good food at really good prices. Would recommend to all.

The food was delicious here. I had the chicken shwarma, which was flavourful and was quite a big portion. The caramel brownie was very decadent and rich. Our waitress was lovely and attentive. It's a well priced pub in a nice setting.

I have been using the Lion for 12 years now. Its just what I want for a business trip. I know some of the staff and I know my way around. It's a friendly homely and still stylish place. Food is always good and the beer is very good. No Bass this time but the Wainwright's and the Pedigree were a good alternative. I would recommend this place.

Had a fantastic tasty meal on S u day lunch time, booked in advance which is always recommended. 4 of us eating and some different options on the menu to your standard pub selection. I had a beautiful plate of pheasant stroganoff, which was not only a large portion served with rice but very, very tasty. Gorgeous pheasant, which if you haven't had it give it a go, lovely. 2 of us had beef steak lasagne, chips and salad which was very nice, thick lumps of tasty beef between lovely soft lasagne sheets, gorgeous and our daughter had gammon and chips. Massive piece of locally produced thick gammon with chunky flavoursome chips, looked and tasted great. Good service from friendly staff, excellent food in a nice setting and dog friendly in the bare. Highly recommend giving it a try.

Great pub, hotel & restaurant. Been coming here for the past year for drinks and food since moving back to the area. Excellent real ale, which I drink and the food we’ve tried is great too. Located in a central position in Belper, with car park, outside area and close to transport links.

My husband and I called in for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. We were seated in the pizza room which was empty, so nice and quiet. From the menu we chose the fish platter to share and had a side of chips. The food was served quickly and was piping hot. The service was very good and the staff were attentive ensuring we were happy with our meal.

Never been before and fancied a pizza. Live no more than 10 miles away so booked. What a treat, my pizza (calzone) was superb, chock full and cooked to perfection. Wife had steak, chips etc, again presented really nicely and cooked perfectly. Staff were attentive but not in your face, pleasant and knew what they were doing. Recommended.

The Elaichi is a stylish establishment that serves Indian and Bangladeshi specialties, such as tikkas and baltis, in a smart dining room. Customers have praised the exceptional service and accommodating staff who are willing to go above and beyond to meet their needs. The food is described as delicious, with flavorful curries and amazing mushroom rice. The waiters even customized a nan bread that wasn't on the menu.
Great service, comfortable and welcoming environment with a great atmosphere. This was my first visit as a birthday treat from my wife, but we enjoyed the food and experience soo much that it definitely won't be the last. A bonus is that children are welcomed and my two girls loved it. All in all this place is great.

My family and I were delighted with the take away meal that we ordered from the Elaichi the Saturday of the Easter weekend. The variety of dishes both vegetable and fish was superb and excellently prepared. The food was delivered at the time requested, hot and well presented. It made our family gathering a great success, with young children asleep upstairs! Well done Elaichi, I would happily recommend this restaurant to both friends and family.

Booed for 4 of us Saturday night as I was looking for somewhere central to chesterfield and Derby so we could meet friends for a catch up. Upon arrival till leaving the service was amazing and nothing was to much trouble, Our food came pretty quick and the presentation and the smell was great. Now for the taste , absolutely delicious, the curry was so tasty and the mushroom rice was amazing, the waiter even made me a nan bread that wasn’t on the menu, he just said tell me what you want in it and I will make it. Will defiantly be back in the future Thank you for a great night James

What a lovely restaurant with friendly attentive staff. The food was delicious and very tasty. I tried one of the Bangladeshi specials which was delightful. We were on holiday in the area and it was an excellent find. If we lived Locally we would eat there regularly. If we're ever in the area again we will definitely be back and highly recommend it.

I would preferred a more strong and definitive flavour to the main dish I ordered as it didn't taste much of anything but just a curry. The starter dish was over cooked .I didn't like the chairs for the customers . They are massive big heavy dark ones and not very well placed at tables in such a setting. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful but slightly pushy. Nonetheless it was a comfortable experience but I'm not sure I have enough confidence to return to commercial taste cuisine . I didn't appreciate the tip for my dish but I accept it but I should have stuck to my instinct .

Absolutely fantastic place to go, all the staff are super friendly, courteous and helpful especially Kam. Unfortunately I am disabled and the restaurant is on the 2nd floor, which I couldn't manage, Kam had no problems arranging for us to eat on the ground floor, organising a table and chairs to be brought down. The array of different dishes is excellent but do state if you don't want something too spicy. They offer vegetarian options too. We went for a special meal and were made to feel very comfortable and happy. Unfortunately I ordered a chicken dupiarza (not sure of spelling) which I love but ended up being a chicken tikka dupiarza which I found a bit too spicy for my taste, along with a peswari naan and pilau rice which were all excellent. My son ordered a lamb shank meal which came with 2, literally falling off the bone, vegetables, pilau rice and a basic naan. When you arrive you are offered drinks and not wanting to ruin our meal didn't want a starter got given poppadoms with various dips, which were very nice. The whole experience was fantastic and we really enjoyed ourselves. They offer top class, heartfelt follow through making sure you are enjoying your time and are happy, they also offer take away but I'm not sure about delivery, it's spotlessly clean, thank you and top marks elaichi

I have to rate this place 5 stars, dined here last night, we were welcomed by a friendly front of house staff - Kawsor, he continued to look after us the whole night and had a few laughs. The atmosphere was great. Nice mix of locals and it was quite busy as it was a Friday night. FOOD! This blew us away, the papadums were fresh and crispy, and all the salads were too. I had one too many, on to the starters .. we all opted for the king prawn puri, this was cooked well, chef knew what he was doing, the puri was light and curry was delicious. The main was the stand out dish it was a lamb Achari . This had that authentic taste and took me back to my travels in india, the lamb was tender and cooked well, we all wiped out plates clean and were fully satisfied. We didn’t have space for dessert but they had a good selection of traditional favourites like kulfi etc, maybe next time we’ll order less, Overall, feel like we got value for money, had a good night out with lads, we got looked after by the nice staff, and will be back next time we are in Belper! Thanks Elachi Team - special shout out to Kawsor !

The dining experience at Praan Indian Restaurant in Belper was exceptional. As soon as customers arrived, they were greeted warmly by the attentive staff. The cuisine served was of outstanding quality, with the lamb shank curry being particularly impressive. Unlike many other establishments in the area, there was no sense of rushed service; instead, diners were able to leisurely enjoy their meals in a clean and inviting atmosphere.
This is the best Indian restaurant we have found, it really is worth travelling to. We have been three times so far and it has been consistently good, the main dishes are great then finishing off with amazing desserts and a pot of coffee with a jug of cream after the desserts which is how it should be but so many others aren't. To top it off it is reasonably priced and the setting which is underground really has a wow factor.
Russ “Rusty” — Google review
All the allergens are marked on the menu so it's easy to be confident about gluten free (or dairy free) requirements at Praan. . The food was pretty good and plentiful. I had a veg curry and the vegetables were a bit more varied than your average Indian restaurant, which was really nice to see.

1 star as we ordered a takeaway which was not ready as they had taken on too many orders and then they managed to forget the popadoms probably due to rushing. We called immediately and they said they would refund the money. After a few reminders still no refund!!! So here is the bad review. Shame as we have a takeaway every Saturday night so they loose out and we go elsewhere. This is what could be referred to ax the moment of truth! How a service provider deals with any issue however small can have a big impact.

Couldn’t fault our evening meal tonight at Praan. From the moment we arrived I felt we were well looked after by the staff. The food was excellent quality; my lamb shank curry was amazing. No rushed service either and a clean atmosphere. From our experience it’s pretty rare these days in Belper to feel like you have enough time to feel like you can enjoy a meal without all the courses coming out far too quick and being rushed out the door. It’s nice to see Praan giving customers an experience instead making each bum on a seat feel like they’re just a transaction. Busy restaurant, clearly a hit with others as well. Will be returning for sure.

While visiting the UK and spending time with friends we decided to have a meal here at Praan as my friends live in Belper. Great atmosphere, the waiters that served us were very friendly and the food was extremely tasty. Would recommend and the cost isn't that unreasonable either

Ordered a tandoori mixed grill. was the most tasteless mixed i ever had for £14. The tandoori leg was fresh, chewy so definetly reheated! prawn was undercooked and not edible. Trying to charge me £few quid extra for man to come out side and hand food over, literally few yards, did it last time with no quabbles. now getting funny = double standards. u aint michelin star. wont be ordering again....stick to Elaichi, no issues over there! gura ki gaan chat le

Our favourite Indian by far. The food it really nice and the staff very helpful. It’s underground with the entrance off to the side, being underground means it can be quite dark but the setting and lighting make up for it . We usually eat in but even as a takeaway, it’s very nice. I have the shatkora and my wife has the saag, with the shatkora from here being my favourite curry for anywhere, ever. Can’t recommend it enough.
