European restaurant
Tradewinds is a locally owned and operated eatery that offers an extensive menu featuring well-prepared traditional cuisine from both English and Greek cultures. Conveniently situated at the foot of a hill, patrons can easily burn off the generous portions by taking a leisurely stroll home. This vibrant Greek restaurant is known for its sizable servings, particularly Nick's huge portions, making it an excellent choice for those with a hearty appetite.
The best Greek food in the county! Amazing service, welcoming team, great portions and great prices. We always go to trade winds when we want Greek food. Big tastes and beautiful food. 😍 The take away is almost as good as eating in, except you miss out on the Fantastic atmosphere that the owner and staff make in this wonderful gem of a restaurant 😀 you can't miss Trade Winds, it's just too good to miss!

Delicious authentic greek food! The beef stifado was excellent. I haven’t had better even when in Cyprus. Friendly, helpful staff too.

The best Sunday roast I’ve had out bar none. Quality meat and perfectly cooked piping hot roast potatoes and vegetables. The garlic spinach was delicious. Nick was so friendly and welcoming as it was our first visit and the service was 5 stars! Don’t miss this place it’s a gem. Simon & Laura

Very friendly restaurant, friendly staff and the owner Nick is also very friendly. It was our first time eating here and the food was very good 👍 The food portions are enormous so we could not eat it all, but were able to take the rest home. Recommend.

Oh my goodness what a fantastic restaurant, Nik (can you guess who he is from my photos) is a brilliant front of house host, his wife is one of the chefs in the kitchen where they cook the most delicious home cooked food with really big portions especially the spag bol and chicken curry. The service and atmosphere is brilliant we felt like we had been out to a restaurant with entertainment on. Would be ideal to celebrate a birthday here but you must book in advance.
Anna Carroll — Google review
I came here with a group of friend's in December and unfortunately my garlic prawn pasta was extremely disappointing that I stopped eating after a couple of mouthfuls. This was not the first time I had a disappointing experience in this establishment. I'm just giving an honest opinion. However, on a more positive note, my friend's enjoyed their meals and the waiting staff employed there do work hard.

The most amazing food and friendly fun staff.

Went for a family evening meal here for my Mums 60th birthday. We had 3 children with us between 1-5 years old. A wheelchair user as well. Staff were incredibly helpful making enough space for us to enjoy our experience. The food was absolutely terrific, thoroughly enjoyed by all, portion sizes are MASSIVE!. Will definitely be going here again.

We met some friends for lunch today and had a really great meal. Nik was his usual happy self, and the food and atmosphere were great. We will definitely be visiting again when we come back, hopefully for next years holidays.

Absolutely delicious Sunday roast. Very tender meat, crispy roast potatoes and fresh vegetables. A good selection of meats to choose from too. Yummy puddings....if you have room....the portions are generous. Friendly, helpful staff.

Had a work do here. 18 people some pre ordered some not. It should have been complicated, but it was all dealt with smoothly and professionally. It's a really great atmosphere . The owner delivered a birthday cake in greek style with a dance. I had the sirloin steak and recommended it heartily.
Sons of Turin — Google review
Brilliant experience eating at Trade Winds, professional service by people who care. Nick the owner is a character and takes time to talk to his customers. Great food and value for money.

Such an amazing evening. We had a birthday party... this restaurant is so authentic and u feel so welcome. The owner is kind and polite and very entertaining and friendly. Staff is efficient and friendly, service is great . I ve had lamb shank and Greek salad. Wau!!! The portion was huge and the lamb so tender , full of flavours, just enjoyable. Nice selection of wines and desert sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream. The owner put on Greek music with a bit of Greek dance .... I would definitely recommend if u are looking for place which makes u feel special and like at home.

First time at Trade Winds. What a fabulous meal we had for our Sons 25th. Front of house was excellent, well cooked food and great ingredients. Would recommend a visit. We will definitely be returning.

There's a competition going on at the moment for the best roasties in South Devon. I've been doing my own part in helping to judge this, and - so far - Trade Winds' roasties are the winners. Service was excellent, getting 5 stars because the owner gave us a Greek dance to celebrate a fellow diner's birthday. Atmosphere has dropped a point, only because the large groups of diners sitting on long tables were chatting loudly, making it difficult for my deaf mother to hear.

Seafood restaurant
If you're in the Teignmouth area and want to enjoy some fresh seafood, head over to The Crab Shack on the Beach. This small, low-ceilinged restaurant specialises in sustainable seafood - meaning that all of their crab and lobster is caught by boat. The French fries here are especially delicious, and the food overall is really good. The service could be friendlier though, and I didn't feel like it lived up to its quality when I visited.
First time we've been to The Crab Shack, it was a treat for our wedding anniversary. perfect weather, beautiful views friendly staff and most importantly delicous food and wine! Thank you so much x
Alison Saunders — Google review
We ate at The Crab Shack on the Beach on 29Sep22 for my husband's birthday, and it was great. We had a lovely table by the window looking out down the estuary and across to Shaldon. We ate mussels to start, and dressed crab for main, both of which were delicious, and the service was fab, really friendly and welcoming. Thank you so much.
Annette Booysen — Google review
We ordered the hot and cold platters and shared them between two. It was the perfect amount of food! Each part was beautifully prepared and presented. I would strongly recommend a visit!
Nicola Middleton — Google review
I came to Crab Shack on the beach with 15 Dawlish members. Ellie worked hard serving food and drinks. Excellent service. Alex organised the meal so well by giving us each our order card. We took our order card and paid individually. The chefs cooked Singapore Chilli Crab, Teign Mussels, Charred Monkfish, Sour Dough Battered Fish, Confit Duck Leg, Excellent food choices. Nice atmosphere and good food. Thank you Alex, Ellie and chefs. I will definitely return again.

A lovely fish menu , fresh from the water right next door. I had the Linguine (with Chorizo in the sauce which was delicious) and my wife had a crab sandwich, which was much better than it sounds. The service was good and I would thoroughly recommend dining here, lunch or dinner. Good range of beers as well as wines.

A hidden gem of a place tucked away overlooking the River Teign. Staff were very friendly and efficient and the crab salad is just simply beautiful! Highly recommended!
Ben Purnell — Google review
Went for my husband birthday meal, both food and service were excellent. These guys really know how to treat gorgeous seafood produce! We ate late so the restaurant was quieter which is the only reason for rating atmosphere 4 as it's beautifully done inside, really modern Mediterranean feel which compliments the menu and wine perfectly. Highly recommend.
Lauren Benham — Google review
An interesting menu and delicious food. The French fries were the best we’ve ever had! The service was competent but could have been more friendly and welcoming: the experience did not live up to the quality of the food.
Gwenllian Riall — Google review
We ordered the La Royale Platter for 4 and we were amazed by the quality. It's fresh, presented in a 2 tier stand, and accompanied by 6 different dipping sauces. Best one I would recommend is the grilled scallops, grilled lobster, and the little springwater prawns.
Matthew Tong — Google review
On our holiday to Teignmouth, we had a few hours off when the grandparents took the kids to see a castle. Having the rare luxury of selecting a restaurant not based on whether or not it served chicken nuggets and chips, we decided to go to for lunch, but the restaurant he chose wasn’t serving hot food that day, so we went into Crab Shack instead. All I can say is everything happens for a reason. The food was amazing. The view was picturesque. The service was faultless. We shared the crab sandwich, muscles and Samphire fritti (the fritti were amazing). I would definitely return if I find myself in Teignmouth again 😊
Samantha Jewkes — Google review
A gem of a find, tucked away on the side of the quay. Charming staff and delicious freshly cooked food. The fish and chips were excellent and my partner had the fish special which was a kind of stew. Both dishes were a cut above the norm. The small number of tables, made it feel very special and intimate.
Amanda Robinson — Google review
Great food, the muscles were amazing, skate was really excellent as the fish of the day The best place for fish in the Torbay South Devon area I have found so far The location was really pleasant by the estuary Would recommend making a detour to eat here
Alex — Google review
Delicious food and very attentive service. We stayed in the flat above a few years ago but just visited the restaurant this time. We had The Hake and mussels for main and faultless, great portion size. We booked ahead to secure a table a lovely intimate atmosphere with friendly staff.

A great lunch to celebrate our anniversary. We booked ahead (£20 holding charge) to secure a lovely table on the front porch of the restaurant so that our dog could join us. We arrived slightly late for our reservation and called ahead to let them know we were running a bit late. We ordered one hot seafood platter for one person, and one Le Fruits de Mer (cold seafood on ice) for one person. We weren't disappointed! We had a nice selection of fresh seafood and accompanying sauces for both platters. The staff were kind, friendly and attentive making sure we had an extra side table for additional space and clearing up shell buckets and replacing them with clean ones. They also kindly gave us two complimentary glasses of prosecco to celebrate the occasion. We thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere, the music and chilled seaside vibes were just what we wanted to enjoy our lunch and they didn't rush us out even though we stayed past our allocated seating time. Highly recommended if you're looking for the option for both cold and hot seafood platters and well worth the trip for us from Plymouth where we were staying.

The Crab Shack is a small yet gorgeous restaurant overlooking the back beach at Teignmouth. We were not sure what to get after looking at the menu, until the waitress reeled off the catch of the day. Monkfish on Bombay potatoes in a madras sauce. It's one of the best meals I've ever had. The service was attentive, polite and efficient, whilst the food was another level. The ambiance and atmosphere of the restaurant was lovely. Despite being a very small place, you don't feel crammed in or too close to any other customers, which only adds to the experience. A lovely range of wines and Super Bock beer, which is one of my favourites but rarely seen in the UK. A lovely cheeseboard for dessert topped off the night. An absolutely superb evening to celebrate popping the question to my girlfriend hours before on our weekend away in Devon. Can't wait to go back and enjoy their beautiful food once again. Due to the size of the restaurant I would highly recommend booking a table if you are interested in visiting.

This was our 2nd time eating in the crab shack, we booked at the beginning of the week to ensure we got a table and took the kids for an experience and the food, the staff are lovely the food is awesome, lovely place to eat- however this time was a bit disappointing , asked for a beer of the menu, not available, no oysters, no mussels, no clams - completely understand seafood is all-seasonal so no drama, we opted to share a hot platter, (as this came with a whole lobster plus extras for only an extra £10 vs the cost of a lobster) and told they would swap the mussels and clams for extra something else as didn’t have these items. It came out with half a lobster plus the other bits promised we queried this we where told that sometimes the chef will give you a big half by weight rather than whole lobster - I have never heard of this and felt more upset we where then just being lied to - the table opposite also had ordered the lobster and they received whole one - so I guess this must have been a small one!? They also told us we are not really telling people to order the hot platter as we don’t have much of it - to which we replied this would have been nice to know when you took are order, they offered 20% off, which we agreed to even though being sat by a sign that said whole lobster £120 meaning a missing half should £60?! So I wanted to leave 2.5 stars, but don’t worry these are really big starts , like bright and weighty ones it’s basically a 5 star review?! Right?!

Bar
The Ferry Boat Inn, affectionately referred to as the FBI by locals, is a charming and pet-friendly historic tavern nestled next to the scenic beach in the captivating fishing village of Shaldon, Devon. Positioned at the mouth of the River Teign, this establishment is owned and managed by a local couple named Matt and Michelle, who assumed control in November 2018.
Dogs are welcome You can park at Ness car park (2-4 hours £4 something) Food is amazing Great selection of wine and beers
Claire Wills — Google review
A little gloomy towards the back as it goes so deep into the building, but a nice atmosphere. There are three areas - the bar as described, an upstairs seating area with great views of Teignmouth over the estuary, and a covered area on the beach which is right outside the pub just across the road. An outdoors kitchen on the beach part. It was too early in the season (March) for food service when we were there. A pleasant and friendly pub with some local real ales as well as lots of other choice of beverages.
Nick Elks — Google review
Very close to the landing point of the real ferry, and a magnate for tourists. The interior is small a cosy, with a room upstairs that has a great view over the beach. The outside terrace seats opposite the pub are the prized in summer.
Matt Reid — Google review
Good beer garden backing on to shaldon beach. Great views across the estuary to Teignmouth and out to sea. Pefect place to enjoy a good pint of Jail Ale.
Mike Billington — Google review
A lovely traditional village pub by the sea. Great selection of beers and ciders, spirits and snacks. Sit inside in the cosy bar, or outside with views across the River Teign.

Lovely little pub tucked away next to the beach. Little beer garden a few steeps across the road so you can sit right on the edge of the beach with scenic views of the river teign. Friendly staff and a reasonably priced pint.

Naz Indian is a clever and uncomplicated curry establishment that offers a range of traditional dishes and all-you-can-eat buffet nights. For an anniversary celebration, the smart choice would be Naz Indian. The cuisine was flawless, with an array of delectable options. We opted for the new Shimla chicken and mix grill, both of which were exceptional. The service provided was exceptional as well, with attentive staff constantly ensuring that we had everything we needed.
Fabulous food. Their Chicken Bhuna my favourite as it’s made with just chopped tomatoes and not too heavy or rich. Wife loves their chicken Korma. Staff are great too. Highly recommended

We choose naz Indian for our anniversary The food was perfect. So delicious. We went for the new Shimla chicken and mix grill The service was outstanding. Always checking we had everything we needed. The free shots after the meal were a lovely surprise. It was just a shame I was the driver! Look forward to my next curry soon.

I ordered a takeaway for collection and picked it up 20 minutes later. The food was delicious, lovely chicken jalfrezi with mushroom rice. Good size portions and piping hot. Friendly staff.

Another twice yearly visit to Naz as ever excellent food and service - look forward to visiting again in October. The Lamb Madras and vegetables Korma was delicious. Highly recommended if you are in Teignmouth.

We had a takeout from here which was promptly delivered and deliciously hot. Excellent food and really good portions. We will definitly be using them again the next time we come to Teignmouth. Highly recommended.
Martin Hooper — Google review
Worst curry I’ve ever had, curry was watery Didn’t even tasty like a curry looked like a lamb stew with a spicy flavour. Poppadoms were old and stale, delivery was quick but the chef needs to retire. Very disappointed, won’t be returning
Buzz — Google review
Sorry, I wanted to enjoy this experience, but I didn't. Food was over priced and both over cooked and under cooked at the same time. I am not sure the price I was charged at the till actually resembled the prices in the menu. How can 2 Poppadoms and an orange juice out of a carton cost over £7?!? And on top of that I later learn they have a ONE out of five food hygiene rating! I didn't even know that was possible any more! Won't be going back.
Daniel Saint — Google review
Not great. Had better experiences at their other branches. Food was not hot at buffet. When we asked about this the staff were rude. We paid and left. Won't go back unless change of management. Plenty of good rival Indian restaurant in the area.

Good food and service. Quiet as holiday season quieting down and was a Tuesday. But we were well looked after and enjoyed our balti tikka masala and chicken byriani very much several take always went out whilst we ate. Will be back if ever in the area.

Simply fantastic. Portions huge, food was high quality, perfectly spiced..good vegetarian options, lovely vegetable curries and coconut rice. They even gave us generous portions of Bailey's after, for free. A local we met highly recommended it and he was absolutely correct.

Fantastic food; very friendly and hospitable owner and staff with very reasonable prices. Had lamb Bhuna, king prawn madras, aloo Gobi and the amazing Kashmiri rice with pineapple bits (food to die for!) We were also offered complimentary drink on the house (had spiced rum). Would definitely recommend it wholeheartedly.

The Owl and the Pussycat is a small but superb European and British restaurant located in Teignmouth. It offers an elegant and informal fine dining experience, catering for up to 50 guests in the main area. The menu includes dishes like bass, sausage and mash special, and barbecued pulled pork with spring onion rice. With its charming atmosphere, it's considered one of the best restaurants in Shaldon.
Absolutely fantastic meal at a gem of a restaurant. Hidden in the back streets behind the seafront, the service and food was the best I’ve had in ages. Our party of five had nearly every dish on the menu between us and we could not fault a single dish. The menu isn’t massive, but that makes it even more special as what they do serve is superb. Every mouthful was divine; a little party on your tongue! Free parking after 6pm was available within a few yards too. If you happen to be anywhere near Teignmouth, this is a must. Unrushed service, gentle background music and warm welcome await!

We were celebrating a 60th birthday as party of 12. We're all pretty 'foodie' and we weren't disappointed. The menu is wide enough to offer plenty of choice but not crazily lengthy. We had a variety of dishes including steaks, scallops and vegetarian options. All freshly prepared, well presented and delicious. The staff are all efficient, welcoming and find a balance between efficiency and friendliness. Would definitely go back.
Julie Savill — Google review
Very nice food and service and in my opinion good value. Lovely scallops, I was really looki.ng forward to the vanilla puree but there was very little, which was a shame. Lovely and beautifully presented fish main (divine potatoe puree and beaurre blanc sauce). M. ... m.

I would give a zero. We sent 3 emails and left 2 answerphone messages over a period of several weeks, as we wanted to book a table for my birthday. No one bothered to reply, they don't answer the phone, don't reply to emails or answer phone messages. One word. RUDE.
Celia MOORE — Google review
The food was lovely, atmosphere was nice and the staff were wonderful. Family run and the owners son was a brilliant waiter. The owner saw our dog the day before when we booked a table - so saved all the meat scraps for her the night we dined which was very unexpected, but greatly appreciated! Wonderful personal touch - thank you!

Exceptionally good restaurant in Teignmouth. We booked as I liked the look of the place when we passed the previous day. Good choice of food. I had smoked duck breast and walnut salad followed by pork tenderloin with black pudding. Good portion sizes and vegetables were included. Washed it down with a bottle of red. Not the cheapest night (£100 for two) but worth the money. Recommend.
