The Stag on the River is a charming country-style pub situated near Godalming, boasting scenic river views and complimentary Wi-Fi. With its historical background and picturesque location overlooking the River Way, this pub is an excellent choice for families seeking a delightful summer outing. It offers a remarkable kids menu that not only supports the Rainbow Trust charity but also caters to children with allergies.
Had a lovely evening last night dining at the covered outside area for my nephews fare well meal before he goes to work in Japan. The food was excellent, weather 22 degrees, the manager and staff were 1st class and even found time to fuss the dog. Wish more parking could be found! Highly recommended.

Really good location, service was great, food was tasty I had fish and chips the fish was big size but chip portion wasn't very big. Waiting time for to meal 30 minutes. The only thing was the siting area out on the table with parasols. The sits are NOT very good your to far away from the table. I saw so many people having to lean forward to try and eat.

Myself and 3 friends popped into the stag on the river for a pint! We ended up staying for a roast and dessert. The staff go above and beyond and they were busy. The roast lamb was spot on and the Eaton mess was one of the best I've ever had. Would highly recommend to all, we will be back!

We had a wonderful long weekend stay and the staff were so friendly and so attentive. The food was first class and fresh and we couldn't fault anything. The room was clean and well maintained and we had everything we needed. So thank you to everyone at The Stag On The River.

Went there for dinner with family. I'm very celiac, had the most amazing gluten free battered fish and chips. Had a lovely waiter serve us his name was Jack. This is the first time been back in some years. Just amazing. Excellent service.

Lovely pub in a nice location serving great roast dinners. We had the pork and the beef sirloin which were both served with a big Yorkshire pudding and proper cooked vegetables (no microwaves!). It’s dog friendly and nicely done out inside while all the staff working when we visited were really friendly and accommodating - despite it being so busy! Thanks guys 👍🏼

Great helpful staff, took good care of us and really felt welcomed. Good food at decent prices. Had a few dishes off the menu and they tasted great. The pork sausages had a bit to much pepper but the pressed pheasant was wonderful. Fast service when needed and they kept a close eye on us.

Excellent food with really good service. Each course was really good. The Bloody Mary Prawn Cocktail was the best prawn cocktail I have ever had. The Sunday roasts (lamb and beef) were great and the desserts were to die for. Would highly recommend this place for food.

Food only. Really nice location with plenty inside and outside seating. It appears that booking is highly recommended. Food however as well as the service were disappointing at best. 60 minutes wait between starter and the main with waiters passing you by clearly immersed in thinking about being somewhere else. The lack of attention to the client directly impacts the food which in my case most likely spent the best part of the aforementioned 60 minutes under the heating lamp. The seasoning of meat is also very conservative. Lack of salt throughout made me feel more like visiting my cardiologist rather than treating myself to some good food. With sadness, as the location is really stunning, not a place to visit again.
Daniel Dzikowski — Google review
I would say that for the price of the dishes the value for money wasn't very good at all. Had the half chicken and there was absolutely nothing special about it at all. The accompaniments were pretty basic too with nothing to justify the price of the dish. Pork belly was nicely presented but small portion. Flavour combination wasn't to taste and again pretty steeply priced for what it was.

Friendly and accommodating staff and lovely dishes. It gets busy and we only just got a table by the skin of our teeth so will book in advance next time as it's worth going back again.

Great location and beautiful setting, I’ve always loved coming here and have done for years! However the Sunday lunch was a bit disappointing 😬 For the guys, it was too small, some extra sides included for the price would of been nice. Also the service was sooooooo slow! We must of asked for water 5 times and in the end the food server had to get it, the drinks were just forgotten about. Shame, won’t come here for a Sunday lunch again now. With 2 guys over 6foot they need bigger portions and faster service.

Me, my wife and 2 children went for Saturday brunch, this pub was a recommendation but we were so disappointed. Table water had to be asked for 3 times, 2 eggs Benedict turned up hard boiled, curdled greek yogurt on pancakes and a completely missed full English breakfast. The eggs Benedict were replaced, which is great, I would say replaced by underdone eggs but didn't feel like we could complain again. Pancakes had the smallest amount of maple syrup, so had to ask for more, but the Greek yogurt was split and curdled, perhaps under the hot plate too long. I explained this to the waiter and I was brought out the yogurt to show me how it's 'fine' although this obviously wasn't under the hot plate and was not how it was on the plate. They asked if I wanted it replaced but most of the pancakes were eaten (with the yogurt removed) and a child can't eat 2 meals. My meal, full English breakfast was completely forgotten about and was very average when it did arrive, for the price it was awful. But none of this, which was all highlighted to staff resulted in anything, we removed the £12 service charge and when they asked why we explained again, and they just said ok, we just wanted to know. Sometimes things go wrong and sometimes pubs/restaurants might be having an off day, but I would expect management to try and help, make a gesture of good will when clearly they have made mistakes. But unfortunately nothing at all was offered. This experience would definitely put me off coming again or recommending to anyone.

Visited today for the Festive Lunch menu with 6 in our party.3 had the turkey roast which came to table missing Roast pots, pigs in blankets and veg.had to ask for it all .Even though staff very helpful and accommodating the food itself was below par this year.We went last Christmas and it was lovely which made us return today, 1 had slow cooked Beef but meat was tough and chewy. Vegetarian options were very tasty. Can recommended the cheese souflee starter. Bill came and our deposit hadn't been taken off so had to get amended. Will we visit again?? Sadly with the below par food standards today I think not.

We came back after a good year or so as we love the location of this place but had bad memories of poor service from the last visit… Somehow it was even worse this time! Ordered from the set menu (which they were very reluctant to offer us when we asked, this isn’t a secret menu as it’s on their website) and also ordered a side of bread for the table and was advised we can’t order from the main menu as well as the set menu… it was bread which we had full intention of paying for? Waited an hour for our bread and starters to come out then waited almost another hour for our main courses. The place was quiet being a Wednesday afternoon and staff not rushed off their feet. We were prompted to ask how long the mains would be as had been waiting for so long and they hadn’t even been ordered, if we hadn’t have asked would never have got them. Drinks also very slow to come out, ordered a beer 20+ mins prior to the main coming out anticipating it being slow and despite having to ask 3 times for it the beer still hadn’t arrived by the time the main came. When we politely asked for the OPTIONAL service charge be removed the waitress proceeded to argue with us for a solid 5 minutes as if we were being unreasonable. The steak was the worst cut of meat we have had in years (90% of it was given to our dog) so we had every right to refuse paying for this however only asked for the OPTIONAL service charge to be removed which we think is perfectly fair.

Very disappointing - visited for lunch, plenty of room in car park and were shown to a nice table. Order taken promptly and food arrived soon after. However we were then left - we had to ask for desert menus and then no one came to take our order despite the fact that we caught the eye of the waiter twice. Eventually paid the bill and left. Please spend a little time on staff training!

Excellent value room. Tastefully decorated to a high standard with multiple facilities available within the room - has everything you need and nothing you don't, lovely hot shower too. Initially on arriving in the evening, thought you might be able to hear noise from the pub downstairs, but no noise, really well sound-proofed or maybe room is further away from the pub area, then at night when it is very quiet, you can hear the wonderful gentle rushing of the running River Wey! Lovely breakfast too! Highly recommend staying here!

Wonderful (and great value) one-night stay here just after Christmas. The room was nicely decorated with a cosy feel, and thoughtful facilities (tea/coffee, milk per room in a fridge). And you're in the middle of the countryside with great walks all around. Breakfast was really generous, a great buffet and a choice of hot plate too. Would recommend again!

Came here for Sunday lunch and so pleased we did. The food was excellent and quick service too. Great choice of wines and champagnes by the glass. Really friendly service and very dog friendly. Dessert menu was amazing, I wanted to try all but we settled on the choux - yum! Partner had the lamb, it was a small portion but perfectly cooked and I had the chicken pie which was amazing. Thanks team, we will be back!

This pub and B& B is wonderful. Rooms amazing, food utterly delicious, and staff that bank over backwards to do anything for you. We had our elderly, disabled mum with us, and they were so amazing with her. Thoroughly enjoyed our couple of days there and would highly recommend it to all. Rooms were amazingly well equipped, with treats and other bits you may need.

Returning with high hopes and expectations perhaps meant that the shortcoming might have felt exaggerated The food was at best ordinary, looking and tasting as if the menu had been trimmed by an accountant. We started with Bang Bang Cauliflower, nothing to complain about but nothing special either, just a pottery bowl with four small heads of cauliflower in a nice coating. The aged burger was more burnt than aged, looking rather lonely on the plate with a basket of fries and not much in the bun either. The Brick Lane roasted aubergine and vegetable curry was much tastier and filled the bowl, but was not much more than a few potatoes and aubergine pieces with a small grilled half aubergine on top. An error or misunderstanding on our part and a very ordinary glass of wine at £11.50 and beer that seemed not to be in great condition capped off a disappointing meal. Probably better to come back on a sunny lunchtime, sit outside and enjoy the location and hope that the menus have been updated but it will be sometime before we return.
Andrew Glasspool — Google review
We treated friends to dinner at the weekend. My friend’s starter (bang bang cauliflower) was inedible as it was hard. Next the aubergine curry, again too difficult to cut into. The fish main course at nearly £30 was average at best. Sticky toffee pudding was one of the worst we have had. All ice cream was off as freezer was broken. Very sad as used to be our go to local. Won’t be going back.

Went for an evening meal, car parking good, although can fill up quick. Restaurant well presented and staff excellent. Food was good, but portion size on the small side. No soup starter when I visited. Sold out. Service charge added.

The Inn on the Lake in Godalming is a relaxed establishment with stylish rooms and a charming dining area. It provides complimentary breakfast and Wi-Fi for its guests. Unlike a typical pub, this Mitchells & Butlers venue is part of their collection of 2,000 pubs, hotels, and restaurants under various brands. Located on the outskirts of Godalming, it boasts spacious interiors, an inviting courtyard, and beautiful garden areas.
Driven past loads of times but never been in before. Pleasantly surprised. It is deceiving big inside with a separate restaurant and bar area. A beautiful garden with pod like structures which must be lovely to use in the summer. It a cold February day so we cozy up in the bar area. Lots of little areas with comfy chairs for just drinks or tables and chairs carefully placed in windows and not too close to other tables. We chose to eat in the bar, the only downside was you had to order yourself at the bar. The bar area was lovely and quiet with a fire roaring in the hearth. A lovely bubbly older lady saw to us and settled us at a window table. She really did add to the ambiance of the place. The service, price and food was really good. We opted for the two course lunch menu and it was really tasty, hot and well presented. In hindsight we chose the bar area to dine and we were pleased with our choice. When we left the restaurant was incredibly busy and the noise levels were certainly higher than the tranquility of our table in the bar. Would we come again? Most definitely.

Had reservations for Boxing Day lunch , service was attentive and friendly . Food was well presented and tasty. Only negative was our table was in the middle of the floor and our chairs were bumped a few times by people passing by. Did request to be moved but were politely told it wasn’t possible . Otherwise a good choice for lunch .

average visit, my husband's belly of pork was quite dry and the price for the whole meal seemed excessive, albeit on boxing day. Service not that good, maybe due to staff levels. All staff very friendly and polite though! Probably wouldn't visit again only due to us not being local. The room was very nice, bed comfy!

A lovely evening and excellent value for money from this pub for their valentines day menu. Food and service was great. We would happily return. Thank you to staff and chef.

Really nice restaurant. The atmosphere is good and there are a few different seating options, including outside dining, casual sofas and armchairs and more formal dining area, I've been here several times in the past as the options make it suitable for a range of purposes. The food here is great, if a little pricey so I only eat here on special occasions, the rotisserie chicken is particularly good as are their desserts. Staff are friendly.

Thank you & thank you.... This is not only the find of the trip, but the best find of the last 5 years of travelling. First, after 5 nights in 2 other 'luxury' 'exclusive' & 'smart' hotels, we thought this would be a disappointment, or at least be a little old and shabby ... How completely wrong we were. We were welcomed by Nicky, (more later) 2 hours before check-in, and while the room wasn't quite ready, we were offered somewhere to store the bags, a huge sofa to relax on, and truly outstanding food. After a week of meetings, slight disaster at one location, and then a non-stop 16 hour day in London, this was a super suprise. Nicky manages the whole hotel and restaurant with the pure class, cool and confidence that only comes from many years dealing with passengers on 'The World's Favourite Airline', and I haven't met a better manager in the last 20 trips. And that right across the board, from Gastro pub to Country club to 5 Star London landmark. She makes everything seem like it isn't the slightest of bother, delivers exactly what is offered or promised, and from our 48 hours with her, truly cares about her team, the hotel and of course the guests. When we were given our room, the suprise continued, not only freshly refurbished, but not a single item that didn't work, the latest Samsung Smart Hotel Tvs, and decorated in a fun and modern way. And then the bed. ... the bed was larger, better dressed and presented, and more comfortable than any other in my last 5 trips to the UK. And while there are no baths in the hotel, the shower was super modern, wet-room style, with separate rain shower head and hand shower. And to top it off....immaculately, almost compulsively clean. With no corners cut. So, as far as the hotel, the welcome, the room, the food and the service..... truly 5* quality, with countryside pub charm, for distinctly 1-2 star pricing. And then the above and beyond..... unfortunately we experienced a medical issue on day 2, which meant plans were changed and help was needed. Again, no question, just hugely knowledgeable assistance, wonderful British humour, and nothing but offers to help. After 7 hours at a local, hospital, during which it was confirmed it was a false alarm, we returned for a final supper, to find the restaurant overbooked and completely full, and yet they squeezed us in, the food was exceptional, and we were hosted by a recent 23 year old University Ecomonics graduate, Mathilda (perhaps without the h), who was just spectacular as a host, but again, someone who truly cared about the service and the guests, even though I guess she will be at a very well known bank or consultancy firm very soon. My point being she had no reason to be brilliant, as so many waitresses just do the job, but she was outstanding, articulate and nothing was too much trouble. Thank you.... I normally write 3 lines, but Nicky, her whole team, and the gentleman who's name escapes me who gave us a run through of the room, deserve better. Recognition at being truly world class, caring, and at the same time, making sure the business runs smoothly and efficiently. Early check out, with a superb breakfast, and we were gone... but I will now use this as my GU7 base..... Many people over complicate a review. But this will end with the same words it began with. Thank you.

Food was fantastic, it appears a bit on the pricey side but the quality was excellent and worth the cost. Lovely relaxed atmosphere, spacious interior, with friendly and attentive staff. Toilets were spotless. Large gardens with outdoor dining. It's a shame smoking is permitted as with increased ventilation and open doors the smoke could be smelled whilst eating indoors. Separate vegan menu with several options for all courses. It would be great if there were more vegan sides available, especially chips - there's a definite lack of vegan chips in godalming. A total surprise to see the wines marked as vegetarian and vegan on the drinks menu - I will definitely try your wines on my next visit. There is a good amount of parking at the front and following the track round to the rear there is more parking and an electric car charging point.

It was the interesting taste combinations on the menu that attracted me to this restaurant. Sea-bass with chorizo, pork belly with scallops; challenge accepted. We weren't disappointed with our menu choices and the pork belly with scallops was very tasty. Service was sketchy but when it came the staff were very efficient and polite. Next time I'm in the area I'll try the sea-bass and chorizo; everything tastes better with chorizo.

Such a disappointment! Having previously dined at the Inn on The Lake, we decided to have our family Christmas lunch here. We booked the restaurant area for 2.30pm. On arrival we were taken to a tucked away table in the Bar area. Our table was occupied by people ‘just popping in for a drink’. The table was a mess, chairs were missing, crackers half opened and empty glasses littered the table; Dog barking. While we stood there awkwardly waiting for the group to move and our tabled to be cleared. Once seated, drinks arrived quickly. The waitress spilled the latte and dumped our drinks on the table. We couldn’t quite believe it! Food arrived promptly. The children’s meals were fine. Unfortunately our adult mains (one vegetarian) were inadequate. Vegetarian meal (Celeriac Steak) was undercooked, lamb dish, lukewarm; desert, Poached pair, undercooked. As a family with young children, we were really looking forward to having a special Christmas Lunch out. We came away feeling very, very let down and out of pocket!

Visited before, so thought we would have a nice family Easter lunch. Food was nice, staff were also nice. I do prefer staff that have name badges, so that I can compliment a staff member who should have a mention in my reviews. We did request a table near the entrance due to my elderly mother in law, however they put us at a table at the far end of the restaurant, they could see how old she was with a walking stick and someone on her other arm !!. We also were standing waiting to be seated (not very busy), we were spotted by a few members of staff, but no one made a real effort to attend to us immediately. We could not believe that we could not have chicken Sunday roast OFF the bone, surely the Chef is capable !!. My mother in law no longer has a large appetite, so requested a child's size portion of the chicken Sunday roast which was on the bone !! What restaurant serves chicken on the bone in a child's meal !!! After we received our food, no one made an effort to ask how our food was. With the prices that are charged, especially my Fillet Steak, you'd think it's the least they could do. Everyone enjoyed their food, but I will not be rushing back, as there are other places to try nearby.

We always have a great experience whenever we come to Inn on the Lake, whether it's for a drink and some nibbles or for a full meal. Staff are always super friendly and Dominic and Phil always make us feel very welcome. Food is very good and kids portions are generous and tasty. Garden out back is also a great space, especially if the kids want to run around.

Very nice high(ish) end dining experience. Staff were excellent and food well executed. The beer was well kept and there was a very wide variety of drinks to choose from. The waiting staff were exceptional, very English traditional turns of phrase like "What would you like, darling" and very familiar tone which put as at ease but might be a shock for foreign visitors!

We recently held a reception here following my fathers cremation. The venue was comfortable and aesthetically pleasing inside. The food was fresh and delicious and the staff were very helpful. If I had one criticism, it would have been nice to have had a member of staff being on hand specifically for the event, there were one or two occassions where our service was delayed due to other patrons being served, which was understandable and no fault of the staff at all. Overall they made every effort to make a very difficult day easier with consideration and care. Thank you.

The pub is lovely, the grounds are a bit shabby now.... the staff were attentive, but did not really listen to a lot of what was requested. The pub was empty, only 4 tables in the whole 2 hours we were there.. we were all placed together so it was incredibly noisy in a small section of a massive pub

I brought my family today - wife and 3 children (5,3 and 6 months). The above average prices set expectations quite high - but delighted to say these were both met and exceeded in both the quality of the food and the service. A beautiful setting, delicious food and friendly service - couldn’t have asked for more!

The White Hart is a historic establishment that originated in the 16th century and combines the ambiance of leather armchairs, wood-panelling, and grilled cuisine. It comes highly recommended for its exceptional dining experience, with delectable offerings such as the burger of the month on Burger Tuesday. The beer selection is also outstanding. This pub/restaurant features a delightful variety of sides, including must-try Korean wings. The venue boasts great music, an inviting atmosphere, and impeccable service.
Easily one of the best places I have had the pleasure of dining at. The food was amazing (I had the burger of the month on Burger Tuesday no less) and the beer was fantastic. They have a great range of sides (get the Korean wings, they wont disappoint 😎) I honestly can't recommend this place enough. Great music, atmosphere and service. If you find yourself in the Witley area and want to wow your friends and family with a great place to eat then The White Hart is the place to go! Book in advance to avoid disappointment.

A lovely place with a great variety of dishes, including delicious starters, ribs, steaks and lots of other food (veggie and vegan options too). The staff always smile and make sure you are having a good time. I highly recommend not just visiting but also following this pub on social media for some mouth-watering goodness. 😉 Photo: The 'Pig Out Monday' deal - baby back pork ribs and chips for a very reasonable price. 😋🐷 Looking forward to many more visits (already been 10+ times).

Wow. I can’t fault the staff, the food or the setup. We were very pleased with the recommendation we received and pub didn’t disappoint. A great choice of smoked foods, large range of beers and ALOT whiskey. We were so full, we couldn’t handle a pudding but they looked amazing. TOP TIP: the 1lb of meat is HUGE. I recommend trying lots of options and to stomach it all, go for half a lb. The short rib can’t be done as half a lb. Great experience

Had a wicked takeaway from here at lunch time, really enjoyed the food which was still hot when I'd got back to the office despite a 10 min journey, the food was ready on time and the staff were super friendly, the milkshakes were amazing and I'd highly recommend you popping in to try the food! Great parking and good location

Was recommended to go here by a friend and I'm very glad that they did because we had a fantastic barbecue meal! The pub itself has low ceilings and exposed beams and makes for a really interesting place for a nice meal. It has been decorated slightly left field with interesting posters and artwork and sheep wool and rugs on the chairs. It's a space you can comfortably spend a lot of time in. We found even when it was busy it was not loud. The pub is sprawling and has several separate areas, including a covered exterior, so you're never surrounded by too many people but there's a lovely atmosphere either way. There's a good selection of wines and beers available on tap including, at the time, Neck Oil which is one of my favorites. Cannot recommend this place enough. All of the staff we interacted with were the kindest and most pleasant that I have ever dealt with in a restaurant. The menu is kept short and very high quality.

Well this is my new GO-TO … amazing food . We had the different chicken wings totally outstanding. My partner and his son are real sleuths for a tasty wing . They were both amazed at the freshness and flavour. I had the chicken Katsu rice bowl for main and had a lot of variety in that bowl and really great flavours. The other two had the Monday special which was a huge stack of ribs absolutely delicious. I had a large glass of rose , this was very good as well and very reasonably priced , compared to some pubs I have been to. Great service managed by young serious funny professional … really cool guys. Well done and we will be back. The sauces we bought were very tasty. Thank you

My dad died very suddenly so wanted to have wake next to crem in Guildford, we had around 39 guests that came to the wake we paid for buffet platinum for 40 guests ( as often a lot less do attend in my opinion) basically we paid £500 for the platinum buffet including tea / coffee and cakes , the buffet was not enough for 40 guests it ran out very very quickly , for example 3 trays of triangle sandwiches, , 1 small bowl of all sides including sausage rolls chicken wings etc , very disappointing if I had done this buffet at home it would have cost no more than £100. It didn’t ruin our send off for my dad but very disappointing as many guests including myself and my sister went totally without

Something went horribly wrong when we visited... We were seated quickly and drinks orders taken then we waited... And waited... And waited for our food order to be taken... Then we waited and waited and waited for our food - which showed signs of having waited itself for rather too long. Some of the dishes were incomplete. Didn't mention it as we were just glad to eat at last. Didn't order dessert as we didn't want to wait even longer. We were there for 2h30, sitting in cool breeze from the A/C, and understandably disappointed with what is normally a reliable venue.

We went out for a family meal for my sister's birthday and the choice of food for both adults and children was great. We all enjoyed the fired up fries 🍟 mixed meat platter, gammon egg n chips. Will def be coming back

Burger surprisingly good & tasty although wait was a tiny bit too long. if chips were changed for chunky version or sweet potato then the meal would be on another level. No complaints from me well worth a visit.

Horrible staff Rude Used to be dog friendly Walked in with a dog and very rudely was told to get out. I understand changing to being no longer dog friendly and telling us politely would have been fine. But to rudely tell us to get out was unnecessary

Booked for Sunday lunch 7 of us. Pluses the staff were friendly and welcoming the drinks came pretty quickly and my daughter could use her discount card. It wasn't that busy when we arrived but still waited quite some time for the food, mostly good apart from the peas they were not great. In summary not bad but could have been better.

Great service Jason luke and the manager glen looked after me all week as I was staying at the premier inn. Honestly the food and service all week I could eat ask for much more. And the breakfasts in the morning was so nice the beat poached eggs Iv had in a long time. For my money you can’t go wrong

would not recommend anyone to buy the Grilled Prawn burger, not worth the price, stingy ingredients looked more like a knock of sandwich. Service was ok although confusing as to why we was placed in the Bar for seating to start with

Car Meet venue tonight. Ordered the Salmon with a salad and chips . Couldn’t fault it. Chargrilled Salmon was perfectly cooked and delivered hot. Plenty of Salad nicely garnished. Washed down with Blood Orange Cider. To cap it all the Service from all members of staff was 100%. Thank you for an enjoyable evening. Great value for money. I wasn’t expecting a lot but the whole evening exceeded my expectations.

Had a great meal out here. Good size car park, although need to remember to enter number plate in beefeater which gives you 3 hours free parking otherwise you might get a ticket. Booked a table but didn't need to (lunch in week) waiter friendly and helpful, took orders quickly and food came out in good time. All enjoyed the meals, cooked well and tasty. Had a 25% off meals voucher, which the waiter asked if we had any discount, which is refreshing. Good value and good time, can't ask for much better. Would have liked to sit in the garden but it was a wet and miserable July day! Big garden though with tables, kids play area so lovely for warm hot days

Came for food with our kids. Service was really quick and friendly and the food was great. Great to have a veggie burger that isn’t vegan! Kids had a lot of fun and enjoyed the big choice. Thanks

Lovely friendly staff, good breakfast. Only small thing room 11 had a bit of a funny smell, perhaps you need to check it out. Would use the hotel again.

My family and I had a lovely meal together in the restaurant. The service was great and the food was delicious. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to my friends and other family. It's great value too and good for families, my son loves going to the Manor. Thank you!

Very welcoming, friendly staff, very clean. My Mum was cold so they turned the air con off. Lovely food, would return and recommend. You do need to register your car if you have driven.

If I could give 0 stars I would! Came Saturday afternoon for my husbands birthday. Food was so poor and 2 prawns for £5! Never mind expensive. Seriously I think our birthday meal ruined the whole day and this is despite the restaurant being completely empty other than our party of 10. Guess that says alot about an establishment. We had issues here before but thought we would give it another go. Maybe they should think about closing down and letting harvester take over here. Will never visit beefeater godalming again. Poor.

Came in last weekend with the kids for a Sunday roast, the food was amazing, hot and on time. Service was great as always, the staff are always polite and attentive. Absolutely love this place and always recommend to family and friends.

I was unfortunate enough to visit this establishment with my family a party of 11 on 27 December. I am only giving 1 star as I am unable to give 0 stars to be able to review. I checked the week before that food would be available, which was confirmed, I also checked dogs were welcome, I was told they were in the bar, so again I checked food would be available in the bar, I was told it would be. I wasn’t told to book ahead or given any indication at all that there would be any possibility that food wouldn’t be available. On arrival your large barman just stared at the 2 dogs in our party and just said, “dogs in the corner, right in the corner, over there”. No warm greeting, not even a hello. Our party ordered drinks and some picked up menus, he then said “no point in looking at those, we’re fully booked, we’re not doing food in the bar”, had we not already got drinks we would have left there and then, I’ve never felt so unwelcome. He questioned if my daughters were alright when they went to the bar numerous times for refills. There were about 10 cars in the car park of which 4 were ours. There were 2 other people in the bar and very few other people in the restaurant in the 2 hours we were there. I’m confused as to where all these people who were supposedly booked in were. I’m more annoyed than anything I had the foresight to check before hand that food would be available and that dogs were welcome to then turn up and find no food was available , and dogs really weren’t that welcome, in fact none of us felt very welcome at all. Your large barman is very rude, he’s not doing you any favours at all. None of our party will be returning and I will be making it very clear to anyone who will listen how awful our experience was. If anyone wants to contact me to discuss this further I am keen to give details.

Situated in the picturesque Surrey countryside, near the West Sussex border, you will find The Swan Inn at Chiddingfold. This charming country inn offers modern guestrooms and a relaxed restaurant with a terrace. The inn has received numerous accolades and boasts two AA rosettes for its exceptional cuisine. With eleven beautifully designed boutique rooms, guests can expect luxurious comfort, including amenities such as air conditioning and Egyptian cotton bed linen.
Lovely pub, really nice decor, good selection of drinks, looking forward to going back and having food as it gets highly rated and looks like a lovely place to eat. The garden is lovely and away from the road so nice and peaceful, ample of parking front and back. It is definitely one of the more expensive pubs in the area, but it looks like the money is spent well into making a lovely looking pub.

I couldn’t recommend this as a hotel enough. The room and bathroom were gorgeous, comfortable, clean and the Nespresso machine in the room really was the cherry on top for me. The design of the whole inn and pub is lovely, classic English but with a sense of luxury. Value for money and breakfast was lovely. There was a shortage of staff so service for breakfast was slow.

Loved visiting the Swan (after a good few years) for a birthday lunch. The decor is gorgeous, staff lovely, menu fab and varied, food delicious. the only TINY thing was my husband could have done with some more scampi, but that's it. Will definitely be back and

We came for Sunday lunch on Mother's Day in the newly relaunched Swan. WOW, what a fantastic meal (both veggie and meat options were delicious) and the desserts amazing! Beautifully refurbished and cosy pub. The staff were brilliant - nothing was too much trouble. Our waiter, Martin, was very friendly and super attentive. Would highly recommend and will definitely be returning. Many thanks!

Had a lovely stay here. The pub itself is really tastefully done and mega quirky with it’s copper bar toos and taps and low ceilings. Choice of drinks is good although fairly expensive. Food was ok, improving on this would make it 5 stars although the breakfast was perfect. The rooms are extremely spacious and comfortable, great shower and soft bed. All in all a very good stay and one i would recommend.

Fundamentally a fair stay but some aspects not so good; the carpets around the hotel including the room had not been vacuumed for some time and everywhere the dust crumbs and bits were very off putting; the room cleanliness generally was not great- tops of skirtings had thick dust, the curtains had a hook missing, the pictures hadn’t been dusted and there were smears on the door. Also crumbs and smears on restaurant benches not cleared from the night before. All way too much evidence of previous customers for £177 (inc breakfast) per night for me. Staff were all lovely and helpful and breakfast was great. If the owner can’t get staff to clean they should muck in themselves. These days cleanliness is important. If it was cleaned properly it would just about been value for money for a Saturday night, but I’m afraid as they seemed to be making savings- not such good value. I hope it improves as otherwise a real shame. Owners might reconsider the list of costs to be charged to your credit card if you steal any of the room equipment! And not clamping down the complimentary gels! It felt somewhat accusatory from the outset!!

Our group of six walkers were all impressed by the level of service and the quality of the food. We stayed late in the bar playing cards after dinner and were never made to feel we were outstaying our welcome. Rooms were spacious - very spacious - clean and comfortable and the breakfast - both choice and quality - was superb. Our only regret is that we were only in the area walking for two days - we plan to visit again next year and stay a little longer.

Went for a birthday lunch on a Sunday. Great menu although several options had run out by the time we arrived even though this was only 1300. Warm welcome and great food. Service was not fast but staff were lovely and apologetic when options not available. As we were not rushed it was a pleasant leisurely meal. Go for great food and warm service but be careful if on a deadline.

Spent the night in one of their "comfy" en-suite rooms. Large room (5) with giant bed and huge shower. Large, soft towels, quality toiletries. Excellent water pressure shower. Very well equipped with large TV, Nespresso, loads of instant tea/coffee, kettle, iron & board, hair dryer. Lightweight but adequate duvet and great pillows. Dinner in the bar was good food but a busy evening for friendly staff slowed service a little. Recommended.

Just called to book a table, was told to come through into the pub by the lady I spoke to who worked in the restaurant. As soon as we entered we were told they were waiting on large groups and that there was no room at the inn(!). The young chap behind the bar didn’t even look at the booking nor try and find the person we had spoken to minutes prior.

Visited for Sunday lunch. Chicken roast was lovely and good value for the size. Really nice interior. Very dog friendly which is why we chose to visit. Will definitely return in summer for their beer garden

Went for dinner on 3rd May 24. Had Chicken, bacon and leek pie. By 2.30am I was doubled up with food poisoning. Aside from that, the food was very underwhelming. A great shame as I had been a few years before and the food was much better. Also appeared to be understaffed, although the 2 members we dealt with were very pleasent and appeared to be doing their best.

Went for a bite to eat with my partner the day after Boxing Day and although they had the majority of the pub booked out for an event they still managed to accommodate us. Best fish finger sandwich I’ve ever had in my life and my partner had the beef burger which he said was great too. Service was also lovely, a lady called Layla helped us and she was great!

Really excellent Sunday roast. Portion sizes were generous and the meats were extremely nicely cooked. My guests had some mocktails, which were some of the nicest we've had. We will be back.

Stopped in for chips and cider, service, space, cleanliness to the usual very high stand. Corniche Cider, chunky chips, after a long walk that's all I need and it was beautiful. Little things in life matter, and the staff at the Swan make you feel as if you matter to them.
Vince Harte — Google review
Went for lunch to the Swan where we used to have good food freshly cooked but I fear no longer. Scampi and chips straight out of the freezer nothing freshly cooked. Any pub advertising food all day never has stuff freshly cooked. What a disappointing experience

We were a group of 17 - we were warmly greeted on arrival by the very friendly and helpful staff. Without exception, everyone enjoyed their lunch, all perfectly presented and delicious. The group would definitely love to return on another suitable occasion
