The Blue Lobster Cafe in Stornaway is an excellent coffee and cake shop, with friendly staff. It has a great location overlooking the harbour and Castle Grounds, and also sells souvenirs and other items.
Lovely coffee and really nice bunch of staff, very smiley and attentive. The coffee shop is well located in the centre and there’s parking just outside.
Kirsty Fiona Boag — Google review
Lovely small café and shop by the harbour, they only sold drinks and cake when we visited in November, hot chocolate and carrot cake tasted great.
Leni B — Google review
Very quick and friendly coffee shop. Cakes, sit-in or takeaway and vegan options available.
Ruairidh — Google review
LOVE The Blue Lobster. Great coffee and a really good selection of cakes. I sit outside with my black Lab, Jenny, who enjoys watching the world go by and hopes for some cake crumbs! Lovely owner and staff too!
Steph Forrest — Google review
What a lovely place, really was. Really well decorated inside, looks brilliant but, today, it's all about the weather and outside. Man, it was hot but the Blue Lodster has a great sitting area outside. Lovely, friendly staff served us, coffee and cake, all round and some treats for our dog 🐕 Lovely 👌

Absolutely fantastic coffee shop in Stornaway - amazing coffee and cakes in a great setting, exactly what we were hoping to find on the Isle of Lewis. Staff super friendly - recognised us from the day before and happy to help. Also has a selection of things to buy from mugs to art to greetings cards.
Alex Etheridge — Google review
I visited here 2 years ago when visiting the Isle of Lewis for the first time and I remembered their oat chai latte was the best I'd ever had. Popped back again yesterday and sure enough the chai latte was as amazing as I remembered. I even made my boyfriend try one and he was blown away too 😂 The staff here are absolutely lovely and I love the little cafe shop and the atmosphere here!

Lovely coffee + best baking in town! Lifestyle shop packed full of amazing stuff! Situated on the harbour with stunning views looking onto the marina and over to the Lews Castle Grounds. Polite friendly staff, would highly recommend.

Pleasant surroundings & ambiance with a view out over harbour. Great coffee ☕ nice selection of cakes/scones, indoor & outdoor seating. Takeaway also available.
Simon Hawkes — Google review
The cakes were great and the cappucino delicious! Almost marshmallowy froth on the cappucino, mmm 😋 the staff were friendly and patient when we popped in and out trying to decide on a place for coffee! Glad we chose here 😀
Laura F — Google review
Lovely place. Oat milk cappuccino and pistachio cake were delicious. Will definitely be back.

Well after reading all these fantastic reviews we were looking forward to experiencing all the cafe had to offer. When we turned up they were busy which is always a good sign. I asked if they would keep us a table. Yes for 2pm? Is it the round table for 4 people you want? Well there are five of us? We left to wait outside in the rain to decide what we would do for next 25mins and the assistant came out and said we can't serve 5 sorry. Bye. Unbelievable!! Oh and one of us was on crutches... not impressed!!!
Nonnajules — Google review
A charming little coffee shop with some indoor and outdoor seats and a small shop. We only stopped in for a little while but the staff were lovely and the tea and coffee were really nice. They had a great selection of cakes and milkshakes too but sadly we didn't have time to try any of those - next time!
Ben Cook — Google review
Great Coffee! Basic coffee shop, with cakes but limited food offering. No customer toilets. Very nice outdoor seating area overlooking harbour. Nice inside space too.
Glen Graydon — Google review
My new go to place for coffee! I love the different seating options if you need to work, or relax in a comfortable chair. There is also an outside seating area by the harbour which is rare in Stornoway. There are a variety of cakes on sale, and also gift items for sale. The shop offers a range of other drinks including milkshakes, iced drinks etc The staff are friendly and cheerful. I highly recommend a visit!

Cafe
Artizan is a popular coffee house on Church Street in Stornaway, known for its lighter meals and the sale of artwork and gifts. It is a favored location among both locals and tourists, often bustling with activity. The cafe offers a delicious menu for lunch, including fresh bread and even gluten-free options. In addition to the tasty food, Artizan has a lovely gift shop upstairs.
Vegan options to eat here or to go: Toasted veggies and hummus sandwich + vegan carrot cake Nice place!

Very nice flat white, and the amount of cream on the hot chocolate makes it look like a cake! 😄

A buzzing coffee shop and cafe boasting the best coffee in town. I had lunch - soup and a wrap. Both were excellent. On a Monday lunchtime the place was rammed. Very popular and it's easy to see why.
Duncan Strathie — Google review
Honestly.. just perfect. You could put this coffer shop in central London and easily I'd still choose it over the competition. Lovely staff, relaxed comfy decor, gorgeous pastries/savouries and a fab coffee. Best coffee I've had this side of Edinburgh!
Richard Atkins — Google review
The best little tea and coffee shop in Stornoway! Excellent fresh baked foods and the friendliest staff! Highly recommended stopping by for a break from the wind or shopping! Can't wait to return!

Lovely sandwiches — all available on gluten-free panini rolls — plus coffees and 2 types of g-f treats!

I booked a table for their evening Halloween Party and ordered cocktails and grazing boards to share with friends. The grazing boards were really delicious and the Halloween-themed cocktails were lovely too. It has a really nice atmosphere in the evening, we really enjoyed it.

Busy little cafe with very nice coffee and cakes, efficient service, all round was a really nice place to sit for ten minutes. Locals and tourists mingle together, nice feel to it.

Stopped in for a quick lunch on whim before taking the ferry and SO GLAD we did! Wonderful coffee and yummy food! Super soft, fluffy scones and great sandwiches. Very friendly staff as well even though the place was packed!
Kelsey Elam-Geuting — Google review
Good selection of delicious fresh baking. Various options on types of milks and syrups for hot drinks . When there was no "plain" enuff sandwich or roll for my young Grandson the assistant was very quick to offer him something that could be made up for him which went down a treat! This makes all the difference to us as customers so we have since returned for more of the same. Thanks. So we visited for the last time today (Saturday 11th). We've been on lewis for a week and have visited this cafe 3 times. Lovely Bacon roll today and Caramel flapjack, all fresh and delicious. However I wanted to say that we as a family of five with drinks and eats our Bill was around £34. Which I think is excellent value. Thanks.

Our first visit to a cafe since lockdown. A lovely quaint caffe with a shop upstairs. They were very busy but maintained the distance rules. Very friendly staff and the cakes were delicious. My husbands chocolate cake was moist and huge! My scone was perfect, a light crunch on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. Highly recommend for a light snack or sweet treat.

Coffee shop
Kopi Java is a great coffee shop with a selection of home baking and sandwiches. The lattes are lovely and the atmosphere is lively and welcoming. It's a place where young people can chat and relax while enjoying curated coffees, cakes and playlists. They even have their own special blend which tastes divine as a coffee addict myself. I highly recommend grabbing some while stocks last!
Nice coffee, lovely fresh food. Very nice staff.
June Baker — Google review
I searched out Kopi Java after stopping here last year. Great coffee drinks, and what a wonderful fruit scone this year. The atmosphere is unhurried, and I was able to sit and enjoy my time there without interruption. Many patrons were parents or grandparents and their children here for a treat, which was so sweet to see.
Colleen McGuigan — Google review
A real heartbeat by the harbour, between where the Royal’s have tea and the Samaritan’s do their best. This a place where young and young of heart chop the banter of days amidst curated coffees, cakes and playlist to list yourself. They even have their own special blend which, as a coffee-holic is simply divine. I’d advise you grab a few while stocks last. I recommend the matcha latte, it seems only place in town that actually knows what it means to house the modern poets and philosophers of our times; and whatever came fresh out the morning oven. X✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨

In Stornoway for work purposes and was recommended to go here by a few people I work with at the hospital. The attitude of the server was appalling after I mentioned that the order they made was incorrect. Instead of just sorting it out he spent the time arguing and claiming I never said ‘ Oat’ 😓 being Lactose intolerant it’s not something I would forget to say. Eventually after alot of back and forth he changed my coffee for me but felt the need to huff and puff about it. Overall a Poor service and average coffee. There are many others in town with a much welcoming environment and good customer service who understand how a good cuppa coffee should be made.
Mavvs — Google review
Nice enough place but it's flippin insanely priced. 2 x cheese toasties + 2 x coffies in excess of £16 😂 Coffies were nice. Nothing else came with the toastie, no salad no crisps. One side toasted one side soggy. I am a supporter of independent local business but if I had £16 to spend on lunch I'd go nextdoor to HS1
Dan The Man — Google review
Pleasant cafe, good coffee ☕ & selection of toasties, cakes etc.

So good to see Kopi Java still going strong after seven years when we first visited. Amazing #cortado....... had to have 2! and great view of the castle

Absolutely the best coffee we had on our stay on Lewis. If you like a really proper coffee this is the place to go. Friendly staff as well and reasonably priced. Would recommend

Ive been multiple times and it is a very good experience. I always order the Caramel Frappe and might I say it was lovely. There's not much Caramel in the Frappe but hey ho that happens. Overall great place, definitely would recommend.

Nice coffee and cakes in a fab part of town. Visited with friends. Weather was a bit iffy but fine to dodge by visiting coffee houses. The chocolate cake and chic orange brownie were fabulous.

Lovely restaurant in Stornoway. We ordered mussels and seafood tom yum pot, serving portion and taste is good as well as the customer service. Generous dessert portion too, 1 order can definitely be shared by 2 person. Definitely well recommended.

Very nice meal fish & chips well presented & tasty, comfortable contemporary eating area. Lounge seating also available with a focal fire. Pleasant helpful staff & great coffee ☕
Simon Hawkes — Google review
We enjoyed our dinner so much we are heading there again! The team accommodated us early which was lovely as we were quite hungry. Nathan was brilliantly attentive and provided stellar service. The food!!! We had the goat cheese salad, the leek soup, and the salmon roll… all of it delicious. Enjoy!
Vicki Ryan — Google review
Lovely food, great atmosphere, attentive staff. Starter muscles were great- huge mussels, great money for value. Same goes for salmon main. The “tom yum mixed seafood pot” was a bit disappointing, it was tasty enough (very loosely tasted like tom yum soup), seafood was cooked well and nothing was over cooked, however not a lot of seafood for £29 (10-15 medium-sized mussels, 1 scallop, 2 pieces of 2x3 inch monk fish). Would go again, would just avoid ordering the seafood pot.
Ani — Google review
Lovely food (all reasonably priced) and good service. Visited twice during our stay in Lewis. Booking is recommended even in the low season.
Alex — Google review
Had an excellent meal in the Boatshed on a Friday evening. Service was fast and helpful, whilst offering a really good choice right across the menu. The portions were generous and very tasty. It was also sufficiently busy to generate a relaxed atmosphere and on a cold and blustery evening outside, it was also nice and cosy inside. Highly recommended.
Eric Stewart — Google review
Food and service were both excellent! We shared the Tower of Charles Macleod Haggis and Black Pudding appetizer and it was beautifully plated and wonderfully flavorful I had the salmon spiral for my main which was delicious. The raspberry and white chocolate cheesecake with fresh cream was quite the treat as well!
Brittney Bennett — Google review
Had The seafood hot pot type thing. Lovely but have removed some ingredients and the actual food you get is not worth the price tag at all. Less than 100grms of meat/fish/shellfish. Staff didn't seem to bothered when I mentioned just said " dish has been degraded". Better places will open in time.
james Hunt — Google review
Nicely presented good, but the cooking wasn’t up to the looks. My langoustine was watery (boiled too long?) and the salad hasn’t been spun dry and only had a hint of dressing. I asked the waiter for some oil, “olive oil” he asked. But when it came it was plain cooking oil in a fancy tumbler. So presentation top, but taste less than average. The waiters were enjoying themselves so nothing to fault there.
Alan — Google review
Polite and friendly. Good food. Not a cheap meal though but we'll sourced. Loved my Thai seafood bowl with rice. Great chips too.
Ije Wilmshurst — Google review
Highly recommend. We really enjoyed a Friday night dinner. While it was great to see the restaurant was busy the service was quick, friendly and efficient. All of the staff were welcoming and ensured that we had everything that we wanted. Importantly our dinner was piping hot and served on warm crockery and the red wine was at the correct temperature. The venison soup and main were to die for. A must.

Love the carvery!! Friendly local staff! I've eaten here on plenty of occasions (work related trips) and the food has always been really good!
Andrew Fennell — Google review
Great food at respectable prices. The carvery had some of the best beef and lamb I've ever had and the staff were all happy and friendly. I'd go back for seconds any time.
Andrew McGrorey — Google review
The food is perfunctory. It serves its purpose, and it is reasonably tasty, but it does not justify the price assigned to it. At these prices, it would be reasonable to expect some elevation, rather than the entirely basic food served. The service is broadly disinterested, but not at all impolite. I wonder if this is simply a matter of understaffing... The space is lovely, but, as with the food, really requires some elevation to avoid looking like a contemporary version of a cafeteria.
Arun Smith — Google review
Great food and atmosphere that never seems to disappoint! We went recently with family and had asked for a Gluten free bread roll and before I could blink it was on a plate! Can’t fault ! The carvery is an all time great. Love it!
Sol — Google review
Had a joint retiral party here. Staff very friendly, helpful and efficient. Decorated the room for us - much appreciated. Meal at the carvery was excellent as well
Karen Hogg — Google review
This was that rare combination of great food, excellent, friendly and efficient service and a lovely atmosphere. The restaurant is spacious and comfortable, the staff were attentive and the food was first class. I will happily return whenever I have the opportunity.
Andrew Lane — Google review
Very disappointed with our meals especially the beef and black pudding stack which was completely drowned in the cheesy gravy and more resembled a bowl of soup. The chips when found were mushy although the overall flavours were nice. Service was very poor, we had to ask twice for the table to be cleared of dishes and the desserts were wrongly labelled with the staff member unable to tell us what was on offer. I could go on.... Would we rush back ? I think Not.
Marion Witts — Google review
Lovely carvery buffet or order à la carte. Good selection and, importantly for us, you're allowed to take your dog with you. To eat you have to stay in the bar area at the door where there are 2 or 3 tables. I personally don't mind where I am, as long as I don't have to leave our dog in the car for longer than necessary when we're on the go.
Johanna Morrison — Google review
3-course carvery on a Sunday evening was excellent! Chicken soup was very tasty, and full of chicken. Both the beef and the gammon were cooked to perfection and the selection of vegetables & sides was outstanding, particularly as it was late February. The burnt honey cheesecake was delicious to finish with.
Daniel Bellis — Google review
Had the A la carte as it offered more value for money. The starter was a taste of everything on offer as I picked my own. The roast beef dinner could have been better as I could not cut through the roast potatoes and the beef was very dry. Overall not really impressed with the meal.
Chris Barker — Google review
Busy , noisy and the chips were obviously over done oven chips. The fish was nice as was the salad but definitely not worth the money!
Jane Nicholson — Google review
HIGHLY recommend the all you can eat buffet... so much choice and every dish as delicious as the next. Reasonable pricing, service is OK, could be a little faster on drink orders but always feel comfortable, even with the noisy kids!
Aimee Kay — Google review
Celebrated here on Christmas Day......WOW...food was amazing, Staff were amazing...2nd year here and will definitely be booking for next year. ❤️

Reasonably priced carvery 🍽 with wide selection of additional dishes. One two or three courses, with full bar facilities. A wide selection of other starters & main courses available from the menu. Can be rather busy in season. Friendly, pleasant staff 👍😁
Simon Hawkes — Google review
It was difficult to find anywhere open and who would take us. My experience of Stornoway and the islands had been overpriced wetherspoons food. The closest I could get to seafood was fish n chips. Nobody that was open sells mussels, scampi, langoustines, prawns or scallops. Such a disappointment. The menu here was wraps and burgers with a few specials. It's a bar menu, I had the burger which was OK, nothing special about it, some salad and Coleslaw. My wife had the Cajun chicken wrap with salad and rice. I have no idea what the sauce was. It tasted like some kind of sweet chilli sauce. Again, it was cooked well, I can't say it was good, just OK. Seems to be catering for the essential workers staying in the hotel and not a nice meal out kind of place. The service was fine, the meal delivered quite quickly. Nobody came back to check whether the meal was OK or not. When I was paying, I mentioned about the chicken not being particularly Cajun. The manager was in earshot and made absolutely no attempt to follow up on my comments. I wasn't surprised at this. They don't seem particularly bothered about taking the feedback or knowing if their food is well received. They absolutely fill a market and honestly, if there was more choice, I wouldn't have chosen here. If you want an OK burger, a wrap or pub grub, it's a fine place to eat. The specials sounded OK but to pay £14 for Swedish meatballs, mash and broccoli seems dear.
