Lussmanns Sustainable kitchen & garden in Berkhamsted is a delightful eatery, offering delectable cuisine and a warm atmosphere. The menu includes two-course or three-course meals that provide great value for money. The staff are friendly and the service is excellent. The restaurant also boasts a charming garden at the back, creating a welcoming ambiance. Reservations in advance are recommended due to its popularity among diners.
Beautiful restaurant with Delicious food and very friendly service! A personal feedback on the main dish cod lion I had. the cod itself absolutely fresh tender and delicious but the sauce underneath feels a bit heavy to match with the cod as well summer weather.

A gem in the heart of Berkhamsted 😍 the food is excellent, friendly staff, and their lovely garden at the back is warmly welcoming you! Either two courses or three courses meals, it is value for money. Reservations in advance are always good because this place is quickly booked 👍🏼 This evening we had our meals again at the Five Bells and I had a vegetarian meals, ‘mince lamb’ with pita bread. It was delicious..!!

Fantastic restaurant which will not disappoint. The decor is beautiful - tasteful and spacious. The quality of the furnishings and lighting is really superb …very apparent they have invested well! The menu was varied but not vast, which is always a very good sign. We tried starters and mains and couldn’t fault a single thing. The house wine (red & white) was excellent quality and value. We will be returning for sure, thank you all at Lussmanns!
Bertie — Google review
We had a nice mother's day late lunch early dinner here. The vegan option (King scallop oyster mushrooms) was delicious and my daughter enjoyed the lamb bombas. I tried the smoked trout which nice and my son had the potted crab. Mains were a bit more hit and miss with my smoked haddock being spoiled because it was very salty and overwhelmed with a cream sauce. He poached egg on top however ever was perfect! Again the vegan flatbread option with fake lamb was nice and the cod cheeks and whole sole were delicious. We nearly passed on dessert but pleased we didn't because the lemon posset, sticky toffee pud, apple crumble and chocolate mousse were delicious too. The waiting staff were attentive. Book in advance at a weekend.

We had a lovely lunch at Lussmanns Berkhampsted yesterday. I'm gluten intolerant and although there was little available on the menu, our waiter Daniel was amazing. He went out of his way to ensure with the chef that I had a fantastic 3 course meal. The decor was gorgeous, the food beautifully prepared, but above all the wonderful service, from start to finish from Daniel made it a pleasure to dine there. We will be back.

We had our wedding meal here and booked the conservatory area. Blown away with the great, attentive and friendly service, excellent food and smooth operation from the staff. I'd 100% recommend Lussmanns! Thank you.
Will Hicks — Google review
We had a delectable meal. Three of us opted for the two-course set, which comprised of a main and dessert. My sole was delicate and very enjoyable. My husband liked his steak, although his main criticism was that it was a bit small for him. The chocolate mousse was not overly sweet and the nut brittle added a nice crunch, but it did stick to your teeth a bit. MIL seemed to like her sticky date and ginger pudding, which had a strong ginger note to it. Service was friendly. We had a good experience.
Nicole Chu — Google review
We came for lunch and a cheeky cocktail each. Service was very welcoming, cocktails delicious and the food well prepared. My steak melted in the mouth and Ingrids linguine was very tasty. Well done Lussmanns!

Had a lovely time at the 5 bells today. Amazing food! The fish pie was brilliant and Josh our server was great too! Highly recommend this for a good pint and even better food!
Jack Rayment — Google review
I had high expectations from the previous reviews, but I’m not very happy with my own experience. The food itself is truly nice, with an imaginative menu and pleasant flavours. However, not even five minutes after we were seated at table, our server brought our starters. It was so very fast that the server did not even have the opportunity to bring us olives and bread. Our server was himself surprised by the speed at which our starters were prepared. Needless to say, I was more surprised when our mains arrived within minutes of our starter plates being cleared. So much so that I couldn’t resist commenting to the server that this is truly a fast food place. In total, our starter and mains were eaten and done by 40 minutes from being seated at table. The food service is so fast that one can only conclude that food is pre-cooked and quickly microwaved. Not the sort of food place I wanted to book.
Mark Bamber — Google review
I have been here a few times recently and every single dish ordered has been delicious. The service is always fantastic and the decor and atmosphere is lovely. They have been so accommodating when we have dined with our newborn and buggy. I would recommend the cod cheeks, chicken schnitzel and lemon posset!
Emma Hannan — Google review
A wonderful evening dining here. The restaurant is inviting and cosy. The food was amazing, myself having steak, partner having the chicken dish and two having the veggie options. We really enjoyed all three courses. The service was great, definitely my favourite restaurant in Berkhamsted by far which I’ll visit again and again.
Gerard Cherif — Google review
excellent meal. Cod Cheek Burger was scrumptious and the desserts were to die for. Super service and although not cheap was well worth the money. Ingredients were spot on .. excellent venue.

Indian restaurant
Verandah is an Indian restaurant that has a welcoming and attentive staff. Despite the current situation, they made sure to maintain a safe distance and create a comfortable atmosphere for their customers. The food at Verandah is delicious, and it provides a great opportunity to dine out after weeks of stress. It is highly recommended for anyone who wants to enjoy high-quality Indian cuisine at reasonable prices.
Very nice food and excellent service

Nothing massively wrong with this place but wouldn't recommend it... Food wasn't really anything to write home about and others in the party said their meals were pretty bland. Poppadoms definitely weren't fresh either. Given the choice of restaurants in Berkhamstead I'd choose somewhere else.
Jonathan Nelson — Google review
Great food and ambience, take away food excellent too. Really friendly and competent staff that make you feel welcome.
Patricia Walker — Google review
What a fabulous evening we had in the Verandah. We had two tables 25 of us in total, the food and service was spot on, I would certainly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a lovely evening out!
WeightMatters With Jenny — Google review
We have been going here for years and not only is it the best curry in berkhamsted but also the most friendly restaurant in town. The team are brilliant with kids and families too. Try the house specialty dishes for something different but brilliant
Elsa Scott — Google review
Great meal, staff always polite and friendly this is a regular restaurant for us and always will be, thanks again for an excellent meal.
Keith Gibson — Google review
A group of us ladies dined at Verandah on a Tuesday night and took advantage of the banquet night which was incredible value! The food was superb, the service was impeccable and the restaurant is very comfortable. I can 100% recommend Verandah to anyone looking for high quality Indian cuisine at very reasonable prices.

Original 1 star review - “Don’t trust delivery our coke (£3.5) was already opened with a broken seal…. Not sure what else they did with food” Edit - Thank you for being helpful and correcting an error with the drinks. I am editing this review to reflect how the food actually tasted as I just needed to get the point across that drinks for customers shouldn’t mingle with drinks for restaurant! The food wasn’t half bad and we got a lot for the price but it lacked a lot of the flavor I have with similar Indian dishes. I know because I am boring and always order the same thing whenever I go to an Indian restaurant. Pros: Fast/good delivery service and Portion size. Neutrals: Food wasn’t particularly special. Cons: Just a little bit more care with what is being sent to customers. For that reason I think it’s fair to give 3/5.
Oliver W — Google review
Very friendly staff. We normally order a takeaway but thought with the current situation, it would be nice to get out of the house. We ventured out with the family. All the staff were very attentive, safe distance, made us feel so welcome from the moment we entered. The food was lovely and it certainly was so lovely too enjoy it after a stressful of weeks. Would highly recommend.

Just finished eating and coming back home from varandah. Fine dine kind of experience with table cloth & cutlery. ✅ Prompt service and well organised staff✅ Ambiance was decent with warm inviting lighting ✅ Food was good too ✅ specially pappadums with chutneys. Garlic mushroom was tasty but too salty! 🙄 In mains tarka daal was delicious but could have been better with more of a tarka. (was kind of blend) and we tried vegetable tikka morrisa which was more of a onion tikka*****literally one full sliced white onion in tikka spicy gravy. Flop 👎 Highlight was GARLIC NAAN. 👌 ✅ Fluffy and full of flavour. Pure delish. Can have it on its own. Overall it was a decent experience at Varandah. We are from London city so don't know about when we'll go back. Anyway. Try it. Review it. Thank you.

The restaurant is little bit expensive side including paying service charge. Although food was quite tasty 😋

Good service, balti a little dry and too many onions in the vegetable curry, could have done with some potato and more sauce in it

Indian restaurant
The Fat Buddha, a local Indian Restaurant situated in the heart of Berkhamsted town center, is renowned for its relaxed ambiance and has become the preferred destination for many individuals looking to enjoy an exceptional dining experience. This establishment stands out as one of the finest Indian restaurants I have ever encountered. The service provided by the waitstaff is outstanding, with a waiter who possesses extensive knowledge and a playful demeanor that enhances the overall experience.
Firstly, all parking is on street, there are a few bays across the road from the restaurant if you're lucky, but if not give yourself time to find a spot around the streets; you may also need a 5-10 min walk. We had a reservation so we were shown to our table immediately. The menu is varied and has some old favourites but also some more modern and varied dishes. Took us a while to choose as there is so much choice, and all sounds good. So pick 'n' mix across the four of us, was the best option. Service was attentive, and the food came up in good time. The food was tasty. It was the first time there and would return, but where we live has IMO, a number of Indian restaurants of equal quality, albeit not some of the more modern and varied dishes.
Robin Parker — Google review
Have to say this must be one of the best indian resturants I have ever eaten in. Simply superb. Great waiter, very knowledgeable and very cheeky which added to the experience. The food is mouthwatering good. The onion bhajis are the size of a cricket ball.
Nicola Baker — Google review
Pricier than most Indians but the Lamb Chennai was amazing and full of meat had no complaints at all with any of the food. Wasn’t particularly busy so disappointment was being left without drinks on two occasions. Only negative. Will definitely be back
K P — Google review
Attractive interior with suitable service. The place was about 60% full on a Friday night. We were taken to our table and quickly given menus. It didn't take long for drinks and poppadoms to arrive. However, I did have to prompt for our food order to be taken after some time. The food was well presented and well portioned. Unfortunately, the seasoning of the curries did not match the seasoning of the sides and breads, which meant the tastes of the curries were not fully realised. That said, even with appropriate seasoning I don't think the curries would have lived up to my expectation - the price of the food is at the higher end for Indian restaurants in the area, though I have had better for cheaper. The food wasn't terrible by any means, but it was disappointing.

Our first visit and will definitely not be our last!! Staff were amazing, food was absolutely delicious, super clean restaurant. The waiter surprised us with each course and did not disappoint. FABULOUS!!!

Had the most delicious, freshly prepared meal tonight. I have some food allergies, and I was helped to choose some safe options which didn’t disappoint . Tender, tasty chicken and amazingly succulent butterfly prawns. Fabulous food - thank you.

Just dined here. Arrived at 7.30pm and didn’t get our starters delivered until 9.20pm. Shocking service, incredibly slow. Food adequate. And very pricey

Nice staff after warming to us great service. Great food if a little on the expensive side. Some good selections of gin. Seating tight but not too bad nice mood lighting, was a little hot but after the AC was sorted out was ok.

Awesome food and even more Fantastic service from Mebs & the team at Fat Buddha! Enjoyed an impromptu Friday night out and the staff team were excellent, attentive and super friendly despite the restaurant being close to capacity. We never felt rushed, nice ambience & food made for a great evening.

Absolutely amazing restaurant. Best Indian food I've ever had! The menu is great so couldn't pick one thing! The service was outstanding especially by Mebs such a friendly and helpful man. He recommended the broccoli which sounds a bit odd to recommend but now I know why it's amazing!!

The food was possibly the most delicious Indian food I’ve tasted. Served beautifully. Gorgeous flavours.

Fabulous food and service, even with a large party such as ours. The waiter gave us helpful suggestions with our food choices and the staff were attentive and friendly. We will be back!
Helen Say — Google review
Inviting exterior and the interior is well decorated. Very chic and dimly lit. Menu appeared punjabi style so had high expectations. Mixed starters were nice. Not too sure about the pakora which tasted pretty bland and dry. It was oddly shaped like a fat cigar. Chicken tikka was nice. Mains ordered were a selection of curries from lamb chef special, chicken tikka masala and chicken bhuna. All were nice with thick sauces. However the tikka masala was a little too sweet for my liking. Naan and rice was good. All in all, nice for a curry house and would happily visit again. So much more of the menu i would love to try.

Had a lovely meal here with good friends. Really surprised by the layout of the restaurant, as it’s deceptively large and well laid out. Enjoyed a beautiful pork belly with potatoes & cabbage, washed down with a refreshing beer. Will definitely come back again.

Really glad we made it- definitely enjoyable evening. We didn’t book the table- just walked in (Thursday night), but it was busy. The bar area is so cosy and lovely. We were hosted by Sam ( hope I remember it correctly) - really friendly and welcoming girl. Other guys were really friendly and helpful. Service is good and we got enough attention. Food was delicious: really recommend cheese soufflé and beef. Duck confit was also nice. Saw other dishes and they looked delicious on the plates.

This stunning venue was Rosie and Josh's wedding reception in October. Filled with beautiful autumnal colours it didn't disappoint. The staff were amazing and very accommodating. The food was insane !!! The chef created a wonderful vegan meal for me. I would definitely go back with hubby in tow. In the meantime I look forward to any future couples marrying at this lovely venue.

I had a great cheese souffle with a wonderful cheesy white sauce. Unfortunately the sticky beef was not very good. The beef was tender but the sauce was not sticky at all. It was very liquid and quite bland. It needed a lot more flavour and a lot more time reducing to make it sticky.
Nikko — Google review
We are regulars at the pub, and it’s always 5⭐️ every visit 🥰 We also held our wedding reception here in September and I cannot fault one single thing. The entire team were amazing from start to finish and made our entire day seemless, beautiful all while serving 80+ guests with big smiles and love! Every single guest was blown away by the food & service. Can’t recommend this place enough. It will now always have a special place in our hearts 🥹🫶🏻

Superb pub food, great setting and cool decor. Well worth going...
Mike Lavery — Google review
Great unassuming high street pub that is deceptively large and opens into a lovely restaurant. Have casual drinks upstairs or wander down for dinner. It’s a standard Marco Pierre White chain menu offering but the food is always really well cooked, the service is good and the atmosphere is also really comfortable and welcoming. Nice setting, good drinks and always a good time spent here.

A stunning restaurant situated in the heart of the town. The decor is absolutely stunning. Our waiter was a beautifully charming man who made our lunch really enjoyable. The food was delicious & overall a really nice place.

Really lovely pub, staff very friendly. Nice, relaxed atmosphere. Dog friendly in the bar area. I had a bar snack which was yummy and the food menu looked incredible.

Dropped in Sunday after a decent fog walk with a group of friends. For a big place gives off a very warm and cosy vibe. A lot of people agree, very busy, if going for food absolutely must book. Good beer and wine selection, didn't have food but looks good. See photo.
David — Google review
I could wax lyrical about this place, or simply say -- you've got to try the food and enjoy the service. Simply stunning Chateaubriand, perfectly cooked, and sublime gorgeous flavour. This place was busy, two days until Christmas, yet the staff were calm, efficient, and phenomenal. Restaurant food, cooked well, served with a smile, in a friendly atmosphere.
Rav V — Google review
Today we just didn’t fancy cooking, so as we were driving through Berkhamsted we just parked up and picked the first pub we passed. OMG what a gem!!! The staff are amazing and helpful the food is to die for. And I am speechless with the desserts. We were so impressed we booked there and then to come back!!!

Delicious and well presented food combined with friendly service and nice atmosphere. We stopped here based on past reviews whilst headed back to the train from a day out walk and were rewarded. All of us enjoyed our meals and left smiling and sated. I would certainly return when in the area.

Visited last night with my husband for dinner. We sat in the bar area for a cocktail first, which had a lovely atmosphere, buzzy and friendly. Service was swift behind the bar which lots of staff. Then headed downstairs for dinner when our table was ready. Highly recommend booking in advance as it was a full house. Really nice setting for dinner, service was great and food delicious. Everything came out in a timely manner despite it being so busy. See pictures attached. We had a lovely bottle of wine, 3 courses and a cheese board. My only gripe was that was portions are on the small side and my husband wasn't full. Starters were exceptionally small for the price. Highly recommend for dinner and or drinks.

We visited on Valentines evening when it was really busy. However every aspect of our dinner was amazing. We really couldn't fault anything! Front of house greeted us and we were quickly seated. Our waitress was brilliant - every attentive. The food was of really top rank London restuarant quality. Drinks great too. Love the decor and atmosphere. Not bad value either - you'd pay twice as much in London.

Restaurant
Margo's at the Old Mill is a transformed mill alongside the canalside, offering stylish interiors and an environmentally friendly British brasserie menu. Situated at the charming Boxmoor Lodge in Hemel Hempstead, this family-owned establishment provides a welcoming atmosphere and showcases an outstanding contemporary menu that represents the best of British cuisine.
We have visited this lovely place several times and we never got out disappointed. The service is always excellent and the food mouth watering. All made fresh hence why you wait a little longer but we were never disappointed. The chef takes pride with hie cooking and also with presentation. We had few celebrations here the last was my mother’s birthday. The staff helped with decorating the area and the chef personally came out to give his best wishes to my mum. Food was delicious. We were given home made fresh bread with an olive dip to start by the chef himself. We then tried the special menu, the steak and Guinness pie was to die for with some delicious home made pastry and genuinely full of big chunks of meat. Very generous portion that did not go to waste !! The homemade ravioli were absolutely amazing huge and full of ricotta and spinach. We ended our night with the delicious pudding from the specials which was kindly presented with a candle and served well presented to my mum. Thank you to Margo at the Old Mill for their hospitality and their amazing service. Compliments to the chef for his attention to detail and to Yasmin for being such a good host. I look forward for more celebrations at this fantastic place.

We had the most lovely meal here. Food was fab, staff couldn't have been more helpful and we had a really authentic Italian feel, the family behind the restaurant were so welcoming and chef came out for a chat. It's dog friendly (they have their own cat too who's unbelievably cute!) And overall we just thought it was a shame there weren't more customers in this lovely place! Definitely recommend wholeheartedly!!
Jacqui Abraham — Google review
Lovely homemade pizza. Best I have eaten in town. Fresh ingredients. No nasty additives. I can't eat sulphates which is often found in processed foods which chain restaurants use to ensure all the food is exactly the same. Atmosphere I scored lower as all the place needs us more people to enjoy the good food and drink.
Jen Tyler — Google review
I honestly cannot understand the positive reviews! Firstly it’s severely lacking atmosphere - we went on a Saturday night and it was empty bar a couple of tables, toys were strewn about the place from earlier in the day and there was no background music or candle light. As for the food - the menu is longer than an Argos catalogue and that should have been the first warning sign! We ordered the focaccia to share and it was in fact a pita bread with some semi raw onions in the middle of it! We sent it back and were just told ‘okay.’ At this point we really should have just left! We persevered for our mains and honestly they were so disappointing for the price - I ordered the rigatoni (which was £17!) and am convinced it was a jar of sauce with some pasta heated through in the microwave. My friends’ dishes were equally bland. My friend politely fed back to the waitress that the food was disappointing and was simply told “well other people seem to like it.” We were inclined to disagree given its near emptiness on a Saturday night the week before Christmas! In summary - a very poor pub charging high end gastro pub prices and offering none of the charm, service or food quality.
Becca — Google review
Lovely gastro pub with amazing food! We were pleasantly surprised by the variety, the innovative cuisine and quality of fresh ingredients. Friendly and warm welcome by the owner. Wonderful, will come back and strongly recommend
Christopher Stanley — Google review
If you haven't been yet, you need to go! The food was delicious and speaking to the head chef and owner, it is amazing what preparation and fresh ingredients go into the food (fish fresh from London fish market and mozzarella from Naples). There are not many restaurants left like this place. Free samples of homemade lemoncello at the end of the meal. So welcoming and enjoyable.
John Roberts — Google review
Visited for a quiet drink one Friday evening; it was very empty. Possibly timing as after Xmas...? I prefer quieter/less busy places but yeah. Shame as it's a nice pub and location.
Faye Ashton-Wright — Google review
Authentic place, good interior, delicious food👍🏼 A very big minus is staff - we spent about an hour there and they asked at least 3 times if everything okay - it’s a bit annoying. But when we asked for a slice of bread they forgot to bring it, also my pasta was collected before I could finished it without asking🤦🏽‍♀️ Not a place to come over again. Cannot recommend
Julia Liberatska — Google review
Great food, amazing atmosphere. Reasonably priced, especially for the quality and portions. It's a growing pub, naturally some areas are being improved. Nothing detracted from the experience or food. If this is how it is now I'm excited to see its journey!
