The Classroom Bistro, located on Cawdor Street, offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere where you can enjoy freshly prepared food and a variety of drinks including an extensive cocktail list and local beers. The bistro is known for serving some of the best Highland beef steaks in town. While the service may not be super fast, the staff are kind and accommodating, making it a great spot for those with allergies.
Don't really understand the negative reviews about this bistro. The meals we had were excellent - there was a wee bit of a wait, but everything was cooked fresh which was obvious from the quality of the food. We would certainly recommend it based on our experience.
Moira Baird — Google review
The bistro is a nice restaurant and I would certainly come back again. The food was great - I had the herring to start (a special) and the salmon as a main). Nice selection of drinks too. Service was good - not super fast and we were left waiting to order for quite a while, and left waiting for our dirty plates to be collected for quite a while, but the wait staff were kind throughout! Not cheap but worth it

Delicious food. The mocktails are amazing. We were in Scotland for a few days and found this place in Nairn. Surprisingly they are doing the eat out to help out scheme and we ate so so well and had 50% off our bill. Amazing.
Marina D — Google review
On a visit to Nairn, we decided to escape a brief rain shower and decided to have an early lunch. The Classroom was nearby and had many good reviews. I can only confirm that. The jerk chicken sandwich was very good and quite large. I did not need dessert. The staff was very nice and the restaurant was comfortable.
Urs Grob (Woerf) — Google review
Had a super nice dinner at the Classroom Bistro and would totally return when the opportunity occurs. The people there were extremely helpful and friendly. Food was delicious and local beer incredible. Great spot! Dog friendly 🐕
Cristian Popescu — Google review
Great spot for dinner. We had a roast beef and steak and ale pie, both were delicious. Service was good. Let down by the chili mango Margherita cocktail, however as it wasn’t up to scratch with the rest of the meal.
Hattie Palmer Noon — Google review
Nice atmosphere and couldn't fault the food when it came. They were accommodating when it came to allergies. Took 50 minutes for mains to arrive but hopefully that shows it was cooked fresh. Probably wouldn't have noticed the long wait if we'd had starters. This place had been recommended to us and give lack of local choice for similar places I might go again if I was back in the area.
David Gibson — Google review
Very nice food. Although there is a very limited mene, so be sure to research what's on offer before arriving to ensure you are catered for. The small menu is a clear indication of quality, however, seeing as everything our party ordered was very fresh and pleasant. I had the battered fish bites to start and the (prawn linguine?), which were both lovely.
Harry Wright — Google review
Amazing food, beautiful presentation and absolutely delicious. Service was great and atmosphere was perfect. Highly recommend!
Julia Sabory — Google review
Rolled into Nairn Sunday afternoon, not many places serving food. I ended up here & had the Sunday roast, fantastic!!! Absolutely delish! Highly recommend the food here. Service was excellent also! Gave 3 stars for the atmosphere as it was a very rainy Sunday, probably more happening on a Friday or Saturday night. They also serve my fav cider ;)
Lisa Parker — Google review
We were staying in Nairn for a few days and found The Classroom on Google. Can't praise this place enough. The food was delicious. We had the Steak and ale pie and Chilli Chicken. Both very very good. Service was very good. The place was immaculate. Lovely atmosphere. The staff were so friendly and attentive. Absolutely worth a visit.
Caroline Bolitho — Google review
Staff were pleasant. Nice setting and clean. Food however was average, and in my limited opinion, overpriced. £17 is a fair price for a fair size serving, especially if mouth watering. But £17 for what is essentially a bland child’s portion of fish and chips, in a coastal area, is over priced.
GS GS — Google review
Really tasty food (we had loaded potato skins, prawn cocktail, sweet chilli chicken, goat's cheese toastie). Good value for money. Very good service. It was surprisingly quiet for a Bank Holiday Weekend, although that may have been because we had a late lunch. Second time of visiting and we wouldn't hesitate to return.
Colin McIntosh — Google review
Came here because the reviews were great and it was the only eatery open at around 1.30pm on a Tuesday. The staff was very very friendly and it was a pleasant experience with them. However, the kitchen needs some improvement. Food took way too long, we were only served our starters after 45min. At the 1hr mark our mains were not out too. We ordered the seafood chowder, which probably was microwaved. Fish wasn't fresh + chewy and soup too salty. Due to the long wait my partner and I had to call for our mains to be taken away. Both the pad Thai and vegetarian rigatoni were too salty and honestly dreadful. We just threw them away. Pad Thai wasn't even actually pad Thai. Overall very disappointing especially with the great reviews. Maybe just avoid the foods that we ordered and hopefully the management work on kitchen timings and quality.

Sunday lunch , pre-booked via web. Parking was easy , on street right outside the door, Maybe not so easy on a weekday. 3 Courses were had , i`ll list my own choice - Crab to start , was lacking in ANY flavour - disappointing, Sunday Roast Beef for my main, was nice - not the fullest of plates but certainly enough and was tasty , Sticky toffee pud to round of the lunch - cant go wrong with that choice. We had 1 vegertarian , who was disappointed - flavourless food ! This was our first visit to the classroom , since the change of owner - and i`m not sure if we'll be returning. All in - Adequate and looked nice but ultimately ,nothing special.

Lovely place to catch a coffee or a bite to eat. The revolving front door is a novelty. The staff were very friendly and attentive. Food was served in good time and well presented

Sun Dancer, Bar and Restaurant is a popular spot among locals and tourists alike. The first-floor restaurant offers stunning views of the town and beach, making it an ideal choice for a sunset dinner. The menu features a variety of options including seafood and generous portions. Guests have praised the friendly and professional service as well as the extensive drink selection, which includes non-alcoholic beverages. The staff is attentive, ensuring a pleasant dining experience with fantastic food in a brilliant setting.
This is a great place for an evening meal, especially if there is a sunset as the first floor restaurant gives a great view over the town and beach. The menu is varied and there are lots of local options including seafood. We had three courses and were not disappointed. The portions are generous and the quality excellent. The scallops were tasty and properly cooked, the steak tender and ox cheek a delight. The service was attentive when required. It was Wednesday evening but it was still busy.

Brilliant restaurant with brilliant views. Staff were friendly and attentive from the moment we walked in the door. Food was fantastic and couldn't of picked a better place to spend the evening.
John Peebles — Google review
Delicious food and impeccable service. Highly recommend the mussels! They were perfectly cooked to the right texture accompanied by a sauce that was well-balanced - just the right creaminess and seasoning. Will be back to try the cocktails next time!
Val Tan — Google review
First time here in over a year. Mussells in white wine were perfect, the Arancini was light and delicious. We both had the seafood Gnocchi which was actually outstanding. Chocolate orange brownie and brioche bread and butter pudding which were both nice. Got a table right at the window which watching the sun setting is amazing. Will be back

Absolutely fabulous food in a beautiful setting and excellent service. We will be making the 12 hour journey to visit again!

Had an unplanned lunch here on a very warm February Saturday. Sat outside, service was prompt and polite, dog friendly and the fish and chips was as delicious as you would expect by the sea. Will definitely visit again.
Lorraine Watson — Google review
Fab friendly fast efficient service. Tasty well presented meal in relaxing atmosphere. Seafood always a treat and scallops were fantastic tonight.
Ann Grant — Google review
Let me start off by saying wow, what a view of the bay. The greeting we got was friendly and professional and the service was second to none. The drinks were amazing and the choice was phenomenal. They even have a selection of non alcoholic beers and mocktails for those who're driving. The food was exceptional and so fresh and boasted some of the best portion sizes for your money. I am going to be back and suggest anyone within a hundred miles of staying near Nairn should go for dinner here. Will definitely be back. 10/10.
Will Waring — Google review
If you are visiting Nairn, then visit Sun Dancer for breakfast. You will get a warm welcome from the friendly helpful staff. The food is freshly cooked to order, generous portions. I have yet to try the restaurant upstairs. The downstairs eating area is spotlessly clean, you can eat outside or inside, it is dog friendly, has views over looking the beach & water. Well worth a visit you won't be disappointed. Wheelchair friendly. Serves Breakfast, Lunch & Snacks at reasonable prices. Well worth a visit.
Kate Kilpatrick — Google review
Wonderful atmosphere - calming wide vistas over the Moray Firth. The food was up with the atmosphere and the service was cracking. The night we were there they were very busy and a side dish was forgotten - hence the 4 rather than 5 stars.
Magnus C — Google review
We spent our first anniversary here on a very snowy night. It was so quiet, only a few other tables ordering food, and the weather definitely had something to do with that! Delightful staff and an enjoyable evening was had by both of us. Will definitely be back.
Lauren Hughes — Google review
A lovely location with views out to Moray Firth made the most of by this spacious modern building. The menu was good and food well executed. The service was friendly. A good option for people with mobility issues as there's access via a lift and the dining room is spacious.

Enjoyed the atmosphere here. Dog friendly which is a bonus. Food was good too, a classic cafe selection and quick service. The servers were lovely too. Would come back.

Where better to have lunch on a sunny day than at Nairn Harbour upstairs in the Sun Dancer restaurant. Good food and relaxed ambiance along with attentive staff.
I G Cameron — Google review
We stopped in for a bite to eat after a lovely walk along the beach with the dog. I had the bacon roll and cappuccino and my partner had the 'Pig' 2 slices of lorne sausage and blackpudding in a roll with a soft drink. Food was absolutely delicious 😋 cooked to perfection. We didn't wait very long for our order. The staff were totally fantastic too, they couldn't do enough to help. Definitely worth a visit. Will definitely be recommending to friends and family and will most certainly be back again and again in future.
Kathleen Mackintosh — Google review
Excellent food, service and overall experience. Tables by the window are first come first served (it is made clear even when you book online like I did that you can't request specific tables). You don't need to sit directly at the window to enjoy the view as the windows are huge anyway! A definite visit if you like fish/seafood although there were a couple meat & veggie options to keep everyone happy. Be aware there are only a couple disabled spaces directly outside the restaurant, so you will have to park down on the front by the harbour.

DrWife got carry out burger and fries for me from the bar and that was a really good burger. We had tried to dine in a few nights but we aren't fans of live music.... anyway, I liked that burger so much I'm taking the time to post this.

Absolutely loved this pub! We were staying in the area and didn't know where to go for food and randomly decided to go here. It was open mic night which we didn't plan for but made the whole evening so much better. Such a mix of musicians and then the staff then becoming the singing acts later into the evening when their shift ended, it was great. We had a such a nice evening - great food, service and unexpected entertainment. Would 100% recommend.

We had our wedding dinner there with family and friends and Anne couldn’t have been more helpful, her and the staff went over and beyond to make sure our evening went perfectly, food was absolutely delicious, we had a great time! Would highly recommend, thanks for everything!

Visited for lunch only so can't comment on the hotel, however the bar/restaurant area were lovely, has a great outlook across the beach but does smell when you initially walk in and needs a little renovation but fine otherwise. The staff were great and the food was nice.

Great place to stay if you're ever in Nairn, I stayed for two nights. Staff are friendly, Paul the owner is always there to welcome you and the food is amazing and big portions, breakfast is served with a sea view and there is plenty on the breakfast menu to get you started for the day. The room was clean and comfortable, with tea, coffee, milk and a wee biscuit. The hotel is less than 5 mins walk to the beach and the same to the town centre. I had a brilliant 2 nights at the bandstand, and when I have the pennies ill be back. Thank you Paul and staff.

What can I say, a wonderful place in a great location. Stayed here for new years eve and was not disappointed at all. Staff were brilliant and friendly, the room was ace and they are doing something special here with the local music and the vibe of the place is top notch. Will be back later on in the year. Oh and the food wasn't half bad either!!! Great job all around.

Wonderful vegan choices on the menu, very friendly and helpful staff, lovely atmosphere, booked again for next week, my new favourite place to eat out.
Irene Mackay — Google review
Spotted The Bandstand from the beach and wandered in for a drink. Well stocked bar, friendly staff, and good atmosphere. We enjoyed sitting out in the sun at the colourful painted picnic tables, and went into the traditionally-styled pub itself when a rain shower passed over. We actually ended up returning later on in the day for a meal, which was excellent. I had the mussels with sourdough bread, and have never had such a big portion of mussels! Really well cooked and tasted delicious. Highly recommend.

Fantastic restaurant with an excellent choice of beers. The staff were friendly and professional making us feel welcome and at home. The food is first class, the duck was truly delicious served along with sensational views. Highly recommend!
Patrick Cannon — Google review
Really enjoyed the bottle of wine, list was short but well selected. Pie was ok, crust good but filling a wee bit dry. Veg really overcooked. My fellas meal was pretty bad though. No courtesy check until we were done eating. He ate his burnt chicken as it'd been a long day and we were really hungry. Told the waitress when she came to clear the table and she just scowled and took the plates. I was trained to make things right if there was a problem with a customers meal... do folk not do that anymore...? We stayed for dessert anyway as wanted to finish our wine with some food. Cheesecake nice enough but no hint of Amaretto as described. Maybe she meant Amaretti, as it had the wee biscuits on top.
Cait Searcaigh — Google review
This review is strictly about the restaurant, as I have never stayed at the hotel. We went here one evening to watch football and have dinner at the same time. The place was very well laid out, and give that it was a full house, the service was extremely quick. Excellent menu and food quality and yet another one of the Nairn places that you will love.
Andrew Machado — Google review
Serve burnt food with no seasoning. I ordered the harrisa chicken burger with aioli it arrived burnt to a crisp without even a hint of harrisa flavour and plane mayo instead of aioli and a soggy roll. Credit to them for the wine selection though. The house made coleslaw was good and the cheesecake was also good.
Jimmy Blacksmith — Google review
Paul and Lyndy are just wonderful proprietors and so hospitable. Couldn't fault anything, food is delicious, rooms so comfy and staff are just brilliant and the beach only a short walk away. What more would anyone want 🤔 nothing... it's just perfect!!!!
Annemarie Lyons — Google review
Didn't stay overnight, but did have several drinks here. Wonderful atmosphere, very welcoming without being overbearing. Very friendly and a great selection of ales, wines, ciders, and spirits. My partner and I returned later on the evening for dinner, which was fantastic. I had the monkfish, and it was cooked beautifully. Returned the next day for yet more drinks! I would highly recommend this place, and I cannot wait to return again!
Jaiforce — Google review
Can't speak for the rooms as I didn't stay here, but the CAMRA website said they do good ales - and they really do. Well kept, clean and relaxed and helpful stuff. A few more taps would be amazing but i think it's a pretty excellent choice for the location.

This review is in reference to the restaurant. Cannot comment regarding the on-site accommodation. This evenings meals were good. Tasty as they were generous. The pulled pork nachos and chicken burger were both great. Service was friendly and the restaurant atmosphere is cozy.

Boath House Restaurant & Rooms is an upscale establishment with stylish accommodations and a charming cottage, surrounded by a vast 22-acre garden. The standout feature of this place is the exceptional staff who are delightful, accommodating, witty, and engaging in conversation. Callum stood out for his superb wine suggestions and providing a comprehensive list of activities. The attention to detail is evident throughout the hotel's tasteful decor; each of its three rooms has been thoughtfully designed in its own unique way.
A really outstanding dinner in the recently opened dining room. Local produce brilliantly and deliciously executed by an extremely talented kitchen. Friendly and professional service, super-stylish, highly highly recommended… go for the Artists Menu!

First visit under new ownership and likely the last. The Kale Yard was a fantastic destination that we visited numerous times. The food was amongst the finest in the highlands and the ambiance to match. Unfortunately the soul left with the previous owners. I should of taken heed of the bad reviews around town but wanted to make my own mind up. Now? Pretentious, below average food with above average prices. The inexperienced staff were less than efficient and they now add service charge to already expensive bill. The food really missed the mark and I'm unsure how they have managed to get it so wrong. It was very quiet when we visited, no problem getting a table here anymore! A table actually left after reading the menu. Won't be surprised when it's back on the market
Dean Bain — Google review
We have been to Boath House twice before when it had a Michelin Star and loved the whole experience. We were so looking forward to visiting again. The house was just as we remembered and Room 3 was as fantanstic as it was before with the two free standing baths. The views were stunning and the grounds were even better than we remembered. We had a drink in the courtyard where the staff were so friendly and helpful. For some unknown reason they have shut the restaurant in the house for dinner and have built a cafe in the walled garden. The menu was very limited, our choice of mains were pork chop, a cauliflower dish, hake or pizza. I had the hake which was dry and tasteless though to be fair we weren't charged for it. It definately wasn't the fine dining we were expecting which spoilt the whole experience we had enjoyed on the previous two visits. The grandeur of the house and gardens does not compute with dining in a cafe with an extremely limited menu This is not a cheap stay and to have to eat in a cafe with such a poor choice of food was really disappointing.

We stayed here this weekend, and it’s just fantastic. I’ve been to a lot of nice hotels for work and pleasure around the world and the Boath House is my favourite. A lot of that is personal taste of course, but I think it’s fair to say that if the photos appeal, then it’s even better in real life. Callum and the rest of the team made us feel very welcome from the moment we arrived; thank you!

All in all we had a fantastic stay at Boath house and the Lodge was absolutely fabulous and we would return in a heartbeat. The surroundings are lovely and the estate as well and the lodge has a stylish interior which was much to our liking. The staff was very friendly too. I guess the place, like many others has some difficulties finding trained staff. The people in service were very young which was fine but the wine for example should not be stored close to the pizza oven as red and white were very warm. Moreover the menu could be a bit more elaborated. People staying at the Boath house could expect something different when seeing the images. We liked the casual atmosphere but there is some room to improve on the F&B offer. The rump steak was rather tough, Pizza dough was out in the evening as many were used for lunch, which makes up for all the pizza and flatbread option reducing the offer for dinner by 4 positions. The starters are rather basic. On the other hand the fillet of beef and the desserts were really awesome. Bravo. One evening the sauna was not prepared and we found it the way we left it the day before which was a downer and the barrel next to the sauna which acts as a cool down bath is not suitable for this purpose. The water looks filthy and i guess nobody goes down that hole. Otherwise the sauna inside is very nice but we also had to turn on the water outside and clean up the firepit. Some ownership was missing here and also the store and the atelier close to the dinner place felt a bit abandoned. It just needs some look after in certain places. All in all as mentioned we really liked our stay and I would recommend it to friends.

Stayed 2 nights in a lovely room with a conservatory together with access to the garden area. We loved the attention to detail everywhere throughout our stay. Breakfast was excellent as was the dinner experience in the Kale Yard. All the staff were extremely friendly and welcoming and the service was polite and efficient. We really appreciated the "fusion" between old and new on offer making our stay quite unique.

We stayed for a night at the end of a north coast 500 road trip and our only regret is not staying longer. Hope to visit again! The hotel is beautifully curated with incredible attention to detail. We loved our room, and exploring the grounds. The space is even more lovely than it appears online in the photos. The staff were fantastic and very thoughtful (as we were celebrating) throughout our visit.
Jessica Cook — Google review
The staff are the highlight of this place, everyone we encountered was lovely, helpful, funny and great conversationalists. Thank you Callum for your great wine recommendations and giving us a list of activities. Everyone there is very detail oriented, and made sure my family and I had a great time. The hotel itself is impeccably well decorated, we had 3 rooms and all decorated in their own way, clearly a lot of thought went into it. They have excellent background music playing in the fireplace room, the cinema room was a nice surprise! The garden restaurant is fantastic, we had dinner there twice, breakfast is also top notch. Would absolutely visit again. Probably in my top 10 hotels I’ve ever stayed at. Thank you!

My now wife and I were lucky enough to have our winter wedding at Boath House in late December 2022. We had exclusive use of the House and grounds; it was a truly magical day and overnight stay from start to finish. Massimo and his team couldn’t have been more accommodating and helpful but it never felt like they imposed; nothing was too much trouble. The perfect balance of attentive and discreet. The House itself is beautiful; the decor clean and stylish and full of thoughtfully curated, unique contemporary art by the artist-owner himself. Philip and his kitchen team created a bespoke evening meal which ranks among the best we’ve ever had. There’s no shortage of nice luxurious touches, from the massive beds/bedrooms/bathrooms to the TV/listening room in the basement. We couldn’t recommend Boath House highly enough, it was a spectacular and unforgettable experience in the most special of settings with a team to match.

My family and I stayed here for a few nights in May and had a wonderful experience. The new owner has applied an artistic vision throughout the hotel that we found enriching, while some may find a bit pretentious if you are seeking a traditional Scottish experience. I recommend reading the Vogue article and decide for yourself. In any case, there is no doubting the serenity and luxuriousness of this hotel. The garden and surrounding landscape is absolutely stunning. The food is exquisite. Each room is uniquely fashioned with a tasteful and understated blend of vintage and modern decor. 5/5.

We visited the Garden Cafe today for a casual birthday lunch. We used to love coming here when it was the Kale Yard in a previous life and were hoping it would still be as enjoyable now. I think it's safe to say the cafe seems to have settled into a great rythmn and is offering really lovely food again. Recent addition of 2 new, young chefs producing some great meals, is fantastic. I can't wait to visit in the spring and summer when we can sit outside in the beautiful garden.
Jannine Douglas — Google review
What an amazing stay we've had! The main house is truly stunning, the decor is beautiful, keeping true to the character of the building but with modern touches, light and airy. Our cottage was very comfortable and pretty. The outside area was great for the evening to have tea and watch the hens roam around. The food was great, we sat in the garden to enjoy the weather and our off-menu cocktail request was also accommodated, which made it all perfect. The service was spot on. The grounds are magnificent, so well curated and maintained. Our dogs loved exploring all around and we will be back soon.

Have been great fans of Boath House for many years but had seen a number of negative reviews since it was under the new owners. We visited the garden restaurant for Sunday lunch, we were impressed by the menu, quality of food and value for money. We understand there are two new chefs and they really have got the food offering right. Pizzas are back on the menu. We decided to stay for a night at the hotel, the interior of the hotel has a chic modern style which represents a big change but makes for a very comfortable and relaxing stay. The honesty bar was well stocked. The staff were extremely attentive but unobtrusive in their service. We felt like house guests instead of customers. There was carol singing on the Saturday afternoon and it was beautiful. Breakfast in the main dining room could not have been better and was delivered by a genuinely delightful lady. We feel that the new owners have taken on board the negative reviews and revisited some of their original ideas . Our weekend was so relaxing and our big pointer was made to feel so welcome. We would hope that people living locally that supported Boath House will come back and enjoy the different but very enjoyable experience.

Friendly staff, good selection of beer. Corona on tap, only seen that in Mexico... had a nice lunch with a flatbread pepperoni pizza, & the prawn & salmon starter. Both were prepared well, came out quickly. Near the sea, on a good block. Hotel & restaurant too.

Whilst up for a weekend in Nairn we decided to watch the Rugby World Cup in there bar. Drinks were good, and bar snacks were decent. The service was excellent, with nice friendly staff. Well worth stopping in. Also were on the ball about gluten free food, which was brilliant.

Such a beautiful inn, with a short walk to the beach. The service was exceptional by everyone we interacted with. We were lucky enough to stay a few nights and got some inside tips from Murdo who had an awesome sense of humor. Catlin and Rebecca also stood out as incredible at keeping us well fed and watered! I could not be happier with my stay here!

Didn't stay at this location, but my partner and I passed by for a quick drink. Although all the staff were friendly, we felt being shouted at "what do you want, food is drink?" as we were still stood on the threshold a bit full on. I can't leave a bad review, but maybe tone down the welcome a bit. Bar itself was lovely and relaxed, and the car park was huge but yet Porsche drivers still seem to struggle to park in a single bay. And drink driving seems to be ok if you are said Porsche driver.

An excellent small hotel. Pleasant, helpful staff. Clean comfortable rooms. Well cooked and well presented breakfast. I fully intend to revisit this hotel and would happily recommend it to anyone.
