Seaside church in caves dug by 19th- & 20th-century sculptors, with elaborately carved figures.
Mystical place worth to visit. Don't park in the upward square because the previous owner of the cave will ask you a 5 EUR black money to scam you also for even 1 minute of parking. Instead find the white or blue stripes very common in Pizzo. The townhall dedicated guardian was amaizng also to give us a tour of the cave for free.

My grand grand father was a sailor and has sailed over the Cap Horn. That's why I has a closer relation to those sailors reached this point after their ship crashed. You can here and feel the see while standing inside the church.

Be prepared for a good walk from the centre of Pizzo to the Grotto but it is well worth the effort. Entry costs about €3.

Unusual and very unique - a lovely story of a local man who took responsibility for the cave and did so many carvings. Don’t think many people know the story! Before visiting look it up! One tip, don’t pay for parking at the top, drive down the side where you can find a car park which is free.

Great job. Try not to miss it

Amazing place that worths a visit, the entrance is 3 euro. The history behind is interesting and the beach on front is quiet.
Carlos Mendoza — Google review
Beautiful & very interesting place to visit. Parking at the top for €5 & a stunning view on the way down (lots of steps). I think the entrance fee of €5 per adult (€3 per child) is too much. Don't forget to take your swimming things & picnic with as there is a beautiful bay at the bottom to enjoy!
KC SQEN — Google review
This place is stunning i absolutely loved my visit here. The little church on the beach is well worth a visit and also the real history into this church is worth looking up. It is only €3.00 entry charge for as long as you want. It is interesting too see all the hand made stone statues. The Beach is absolutely stunning and clean. It's not usually to busy, but a lot of tourist buses stop to visit here. There are little bars/cafe's here too so it's the perfect place to pull over. Just 10 minutes drive along the road from here there is Pizzo another place worth a visit.
M Dick — Google review
This place, the photos look good, but when you arrive at the place, there is no great impression. It's not worth going to it. There is a beautiful beach nearby, so it gave us more impressions. (don't be too lazy to walk over the rocks to the coves and a completely private view. a few tips for those who don't like to overpay: * upon arrival, there is a parking lot - paid (5eur. hour, 10eur day). You can drive by and park your car nearby, on the side of the road for free. * sculptures. Paid, 5 euros per person. However, you can enter, look around and decide if you really want to enter. Because we went in, but we recommend that you come to look around, get an impression and not go, don't pay. * after visiting this place, you will see nearby directions to try the famous tartufo ice cream in the area. Keep in mind that this is not a cafe, this is a workshop. After following the directions, you will see the ice cream machines and the door of the workshop, you have to call them. (price of ice cream, we took 2 portions for 5 euros).

Good and historical church..old type and near to the sea..ryou have to pay parking upstair and then climb down 100s stairs ..you can also enjoy beach later on..te some bar near to the street to have a refreshing coffee after the visit.

I'm sorry because I don't have six stars. The place is more than incredible. It's on the beach, wonderful sea and it has been carved by a single fisherman and his son after his death. So beautiful. There are sun light effects and springs

Great cool place. Need more preservation. It's a bit touristy but worth a visit, especially for the low cost. Beautiful location.

Interesting place and.church. unfortunately it is not very well preserved and there doesn't seem to be any effort for preservation. Upper paintings are almost gone and the statues show hard signs of decay. Still this is an interesting place.

Pizzo Beach, also known as Pizzo Calabro, is a charming small beach located near the historic center of Pizzo, a seaside town in Calabria, southern Italy. The beach is sheltered by the pier and offers a perfect spot for soaking up the sunshine. While it's small and doesn't have lido facilities, visitors can easily find a spot on the sand even during peak summer months.

This preserved military fortress & prison offers historical exhibits, panoramic views & a book shop.
Nice castle in the center of Pizzo... It's famous because brother in law of Napoleon Bonaparte was imprisoned there... Now inside you can see reproduction of that... The ticket is cheap about 3e...there is not so much people there and you not wait for long for entrance... The castle is in historic central part of this little city... From there you have so nice view... All recommendations for visit and take some nice pictures and videos if you are in Pizzo and that part of Calabria...

Great place for panoramic and portrait photos! Perfectly preserved this fortress. The Aragonese castle (Murat Fortress) was built on the coastal cliff in the 15th century, but gained fame three centuries later thanks to Joachim Murat. Murat was Napoleon’s marshal and married to his sister Caroline. Disillusioned with the success of the military company, Murat fled from the unwashed imperial Russia from her masters and slaves to the side of the enemy. In October 1815, he was arrested, imprisoned in a fortress in Pizzo and after the trial was shot. Now in the fortress-museum you can see the camera of Murat, the scene of the court, the prisoners and their guards, all the figures are made of wax. From the balcony of the fortress offers a beautiful view of the sea, we were there at sunset.

Nicely preserved castle with a small museum inside. Definitely worth the entrance fee of 2.50 EUR. Great view over the harbour.
Harry's Wanderlust — Google review
The castle is quite well preserved and there is an exhibition there of puppets arranged to represent inmates from the time when Murat was imprisoned at the castle. I found it a little bit disappointing that the castle focused on Murat so much, I think the castle has so much more history to it and all of it shouldn't just be pushed aside to accommodate this Murat guy.

Pepe Nero is a small restaurant located in the charming town of Pizzo, Calabria, Italy. It offers the freshest and finest seafood at affordable prices. Visitors have praised the friendly service and exceptional food, particularly highlighting the delicious roasted swordfish and frittura of shrimp and squid. The owner is known for offering high-quality fish and providing top-notch service in both Italian and English.
Absolutely fantastic night here, Celebrating a wedding anniversary and birthday whilst on holiday in Pizzo. We were welcomed with friendly faces and the service was exceptional. Food was delicious, chose our own fish to be cooked how we liked. All of us were really happy with what we received and how it was cooked. Cannot fault this place at all. Great hosts, great food and great atmosphere. It is definately worth a visit whilst in Pizzo.

Best restaurant in town! Super nice owner (Giovanna) and her son! Totally worth it. The waiters are also all super friendly. The fileja tomato ricotta Nduja is a beautiful simple and fresh pasta dish to try. Don’t forget to try the Pizzo truffle ice cream. It’s fantastic!! (It’s not made of truffle but just had the shape of it). We love Pepe Nero!

The roasted swordfish and the "frittura" of shrimp and squid were both delicious! The swordfish was thick and not at all dry and the squid were soft and not rubbery... everything was cooked absolutely spot on! We also took an "insalata di mare" as starter, which tasted OK. The side fried potatoes (with and without onions) were fine too. Considering the quality of the food, the cost per person of ca. 30€ was fair. The service was a bit slow (hence not 5 stars) but the owner and the staff were very friendly. We would recommend this place for a delicious fish-based meal and would go there again on our next trip to Pizzo.

Great and smiling staff, best lunch in Pizzo. You wouldn’t think so, being in a beachy, touristy area, but it’s so so good. Great outdoor seating. Get the Fileja - it’s the best (perfect spiciness) but don’t forget the tartufo for dessert - made in house! Yum yum yum! Tell Giovanna we said hi! She’ll give you tips for eating around this area and she’s so wonderful, as is her staff. Finish with limoncello!

I liked the dishes with the exception of the “Tagliata” which was very poorly made! The prices of the dishes were reasonable for the place but charging €10 per person without offering a piece of bread or salt and olive oil I thought it was a steal. If that's how they want customers, they're found wrong. I would go back for the dishes, and the location but not for the price per person. Be aware!

Il Cappero Rosso, a highly recommended restaurant in Pizzo, stands out for its delightful culinary offerings. It distinguishes itself from the square and touristy establishments found along the seafront. With an impressive Calabrian Appetizer plate at a reasonable price of around 8 euros, this eatery never fails to impress. The Linguine Pistacchio e Vongole is particularly noteworthy for its exquisite taste and generous portions.
Brilliant service and the food is amazing, the bolognese is one of the best I’ve ever had - felja n’duja is also amazing!!
Graeme Boag — Google review
We had originally planned to have our first dinner in Pizzo at Petit Jardin but they had an emergency that evening leaving the place closed and us without a supper pick. But every cloud has a silver lining we chose Il Cappero Rosso and we were not disappointed. Excellent pizza, excellent prices and great people to spend our evening with we couldn't ask for a better start to our vacation even if we were half asleep from traveling to get here.

Our favorite restaurant in Pizzo. Avoid all of the square and touristy places (overlooking the sea) and seek out recommendations in other areas. Terrific meal, but the highlight was this Calabrian Appetizer plate for IIRC 8 euros. We split it!

The food was delicious, we ordered the French fries and grilled veggies with a tuna steak and linguini al pistacchio e vongole. The service was excellent due to rocco being their to serve honestly great man deserves a raise ! 👍👍 The at.osphere was excellent the plaza of pizzo and where it was situated all in all perfect And compliments to Rocco

The food and the service is pretty good. The price is ok, but caution because whatever you order you will have to pay for the cutlery that is not cheap.

The standout at this restaurant is the white pizzas, they are so amazing. I’d like to give this restaurant a higher rating but the pizzas with tomato base and the wine wasn’t as good as some other restaurants in the area.
Simon Dudaric — Google review
Recommended to us by a friend living in Pizzo. Staff were attentive, even bringing out the fresh fish available to choose. We shared the crab legs to start, which were absolutely delicious. My partner had the catch of the day and swordfish made to order, our friend had prawn linguine and I had lasagne, everything was perfectly cooked and no extra seasoning required. We shared a carafe of house white which again was delicious and refreshing. We had limited time as heading to the airport after eating and the staff accommodated with fast and efficient service.

Hotel Marinella is a straightforward establishment in the town, boasting a comfortable restaurant and an outdoor swimming pool. Guests can enjoy a complimentary breakfast during their stay. Among the well-known hotels in the area are Hotel Grillo, Hotel Murat, and Hotel Garden Club Calabria, to name a few. The services offered by Hotel Marinella are highly regarded in terms of quality versus pricing. Its convenient location allows easy access to Pizzo, and even offers transportation for guests when needed.
We enjoyed this hotel in every way. Very clean, large rooms, a personable & helpful proprietor, and a FABULOUS restaurant with great wait staff. Their food was the best of the best: homemade pesto & gnocchi, homemade linguine with picante sauce, grilled steak & swordfish was all SO delicious. Was by far the best food we had in our 2 weeks in Italy (& we had a lot of great food) but their chef was phenomenal. And superb wine,. And not expensive. The breakfast was a nicely laid out buffet with a coffee machine. Minutes to walk to the sea & beach area. The hotel also has a large solar heated pool which was comfortable to hang out by & relax.

(Translated by Google) A bar to avoid!! a capari soda with very little gin, served in paper cups, without chips, nothing, just ice, 7 euros!!! For an improvised bar (and it's obvious that this is the case) on a beach it's really exaggerated! A robbery!! That's why no one was there!!! These places only give bad publicity to our Calabria, they wait for the unfortunate person in question to fleece him!! It should be noted that on the same day in Scilla, always capari with gin served in a glass in a bar in the main square full of people and complete with a panoramic view, paid €3. I hope that this review of mine is useful to tourists who are in those parts...avoid!!!!!

A typical family run Italian run pizzeria. However its decor is what sets it apart from other restaurants. It is very modern inside which is great to see. The food is good (we had had better meat elsewhere but the pizza was good) and the service very good - little tiny things they did went above and beyond service in other restaurants. They also say they are pizza all hours which we didn't test but in the off season getting pizza at lunch is rare so would be interested to see if that is indeed true

(Translated by Google) Negative experience, I absolutely do not recommend. Once we got to the cashier and after having received the detailed bill, we realized that we had paid for an extra pizza that had not been eliminated. I politely pointed out the error. The result? The owner, after having responded rudely, took the liberty of going into the kitchen to get the pizza peel and then approached me and my friends in a threatening manner. Non-existent education, terrible person both as a man and, above all, as a restaurant owner! (Original) Esperienza negativa, sconsiglio assolutamente. Una volta giunti in cassa e dopo aver avuto il conto dettagliato,ci siamo resi conto di aver pagato una pizza in più che non era stata eliminata. In modo garbato,ho fatto presente l'errore.

When you've navigated all the icream places, this is mainly the only one actually serving food. Service was as expected, and food was generally good.

Great food and good service. The Linguine Pistacchio e Vongole were amazing, tasty and generous. The service was a bit firm but the food definitely made up for it.

Our favorite restaurant in Pizzo. Avoid all of the square and touristy places (overlooking the sea) and seek out recommendations in other areas. Terrific meal, but the highlight was this Calabrian Appetizer plate for IIRC 8 euros. We split it!
