Pub
Restaurant
The Poplars is an 18th-century country inn that offers a charming ambiance, complete with gardens and a cricket field. They serve authentic ale and homemade dishes. Recent visitors were pleasantly surprised by the exceptional service they received when booking the pub for a BBQ event. The staff displayed utmost professionalism and provided amazing catering services tailored to everyone's needs. The menu was highly praised by all guests, with the chef taking credit for his outstanding food choices, including the delectable Eton Mess dessert.
Lovely country pub vibe on the outskirts of Trowbridge. Places to park, wheelchair accessible. Small menu but perfectly balanced, something there for everyone. Gluten free options available too 🙂 Beautifully presented dishes, insta friendly 😉🍽️🤤 Its not the cheapest place but you get what you pay for. Was a really nice treat and I'd definitely go again. Clean and intimate. Friendly staff.

Poplar by name and nature. Last visited on the first night, the new owners took over, which was chaotic for the staff. But glad to see it's all settled down and the staggered seating times worked really well. The food was great. I'm glad to see fagotts back on the menu, though I went for juicy rump steak, which was perfectly cooked. One of our diners had the shoulder of lamb, which looked great and tasted delicious. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals and were very pleased to to this pub fully booked and serving great food again.

I was more than pleasently surprised at the service I received . I booked the Poplars for a BBQ event. They were extremely professional. The catering was amazing. They were so helpful and catered for all my needs, everyone loved the menu they specifically provided us. The food was perfectly cooked . The chef was responsible for most of the choices of food including dessert everyone loved his choices. The Eton Mess was the best I have ever had. I will recommend them to all. I will definitely book with them again. They would be my first choice for any future event . They even arranged a marquee for the event. Everything was five star and more.

Five of us popped in for Sunday lunch. We had the pork and the duck, which were both excellent. There were five empty plates! Atmosphere was good, staff friendly and service promot. Highly recommended.

We went for lunch, no table booked but were early enough to choose where we wanted to go. We were told what the soup of the day was and the pie. We made our choices and not long before it arrived. The chips were one of the very best we've had and all meals consumed with eagerness. Would definitely recommend this place.

I went here for dinner and was rather impressed. I ordered the steak with rosemary chips and salad. To drink, I had Pepsi. I was asked if I wanted ice or not, and I answered no, but to my disappointment, I was given some ice. I had also asked for no dressing on my salad, but I had been given dressing overall. I found the food quality was exceptional and had a lovely lively atmosphere to the place. 4 Stars.

We went here with some in trepidation as we knew the owners had recently changed over. However were delighted the standard and quality of food has actually improved from What was already a good standard. Nice people, great food and a lovely little pub in the village. We waited to our second visit to make sure it wasn’t a one off and we are pleased to say the second visit was even better again. We have tried steaks, ham egg and chips, pork Holstein and ginger marinated chicken fillets and recommend them all!

It's a really nice pub. The staff were friendly, the food was excellent. We had a roast dinner. I had duck, and it was perfect. They have high chairs for children and also did my 19month old son his own Yorkshire pudding. I think it was good value for money and I would like to go again. The beer was also good. They serve 6x, which you don't tend to see so often these days.

Had never tried The Poplars before and was not dissapointed. Service was friendly and attentive. The young waiter was definitely keen to check up on us and our food regularly. Food was brilliant, clearly lovingly hand-made by the chef really tasty and well thought-out. The menu was just the right size with the kind of options you want from a country pub. I had the steak and ale pie it was wonderful Thanks guys for your hospitality, will be back!

Frankie & Benny's is a chain of Italian restaurants with a family-friendly atmosphere. The food is usually really tasty, and the service is friendly and quick. There are a lot of great choices on the menu, and the portions are more than enough. You can pay online at the table, and there's free WiFi.
Birthday meal with daughter. Excellent food. Great service. Used the current Cinema ticket offer and got 30% off our mains. Did their birthday song and cake.

The staff are really friendly and the atmosphere is great - sometimes the music can be a bit too loud - the food was good - no complaints perfect price point - the only set back was a slight mix up with the desert order and having to get them to adjust the final bill.
Wayne Evans — Google review
Hideously short staffed, the manager was sat there doing work on the laptop, but probably not best to sit front of house whilst you only have two members of staff working out the front for both bar & service. The serving staff were pleasant and doing their best, but food took a while and when it hit the pass, the server spotted it but then stopped to take a new tables order .. so it sat there. When it did arrive the 'sticky wings' looks like they had been forgotten about in the fryer. The burger was well done. The buns on the two burgers were dry-yyyy. But the chicken burger was fine. Not sure if it was a one off Sunday experience, but it makes it hard to keep it as an option when in the area for the cinema & shopping.

I had my family come around last night so I thought it would be nice to get some food in, as you can see from the pictures below (the one on the right is what I got)i was not impressed with what they deliver to me. It was nothing like the picture and it turned up cold. It was missing bacon onion rings and other stuff inside. All I had was a bit of salad which was gone off, two burgers and the buns.
chris Hodges — Google review
Booked a table for 18.00 for my daughters birthday, it took over an hour for the food to come out, the food was average at best. So short staffed they could not sing the birthday song. They were more interested in delivery then people in the restaurant. Overall, we were there 2 1/2 hours for and average burger and chips. We will not be returning Avoid!!

I've eaten at a few Frankie & Benny's and always have an enjoyable meal. Service was friendly and quick and food was really tasty. Went with my Mum for a birthday lunch and they didn't hesitate to bring out a complimentary birthday cupcake for me. Recently visited again last week and food and service was still great. I think the menu has shrunk a little since covid but there's still loads of great choice and the portions were more than enough. Can pay online at the table and free WiFi (although you have to sign up).

The staff are super friendly! They have a gluten-free menu. The one thing I would definitely recommend is getting the loaded fries with brisket. I have been to Frankie & Benny’s a couple of times with friends. And there’s always something on the menu for whatever you’re in the mood for. The cocktails are lovely! It’s always a good atmosphere in there. It’s a lovely place to go to if you’re just looking to have lunch or dinner catching up with friends or if you’re looking to get a bite to eat before going to the cinema.

Absolutely loved it, couldn't recommend it enough, food was great service was excellent very welcoming, looking forward to going back again.

What I will say, very friendly staff and a clean restaurant. The burger wasn't "hot", felt like it had been cooked and left for 10 minutes before serving. It tasted greasy as if it had been deep fried. We ordered the garlic bread starter and after finishing the plate was covered in oil; it was as if Jamie Oliver was in the kitchen! I shall not be going back, I'd even rate Wetherspoons over Frankie & Benny's.
Graham McCubbin — Google review
I was so shocked at how great the food and service was. My mum went for the first few times and said how great it was and today she treated me because she wanted me to try it. Even the chips were delicious! It’s all Made fresh and the burgers are like a Burger King but ten times better. The best part was our server, we went at lunch 13.03.2024 she was so lovely and kind with a big smile! Nothing was too much trouble , please give her some extra tips tonight!!can’t believe they weren’t busy, it’s like a secret gem!

First impressions last longest... So pleased to have visited! First time and didn't disappoint. Service with a smile, food was amazing, lovely atmosphere - and great value. I look forward to returning! 5/5 🤩
Carole Moore — Google review
Service was incredibly poor. Food took over an hour, and when we asked was told ‘couple minutes’ and took an extra ten- people served before us who came in afterwards. I ordered an arrabiata, which was nice, but no offer of parmesan, and we had no check in whilst we had our food- tried to grab attention of waiter but was ignored. Would have been nice to have been offered a way of making it up to us. Takeaway food was also definitely prioritised over dine in as well. Lack of vegetarian options also.
Dione Mitchell — Google review
I’ve come here a few times but every time I come it gets worse. This time we came for dinner and the place was as busy as I’ve seen however there were still many tables available. First off it took about 10 minutes just to be seated. I could only see 2 waitresses and they were busy so I didn’t mind at first but then to took at least 15 minutes just to order drinks, and then when they finally arrived the coke was “out” (they had to change the syrup) we did eventually get our drinks changed. Now comes the food, or lack of it! At least 30 minutes for a starter of garlic bread (still only 2 waitresses and what I believe to be the manager was doing the take out orders) then we noticed over tables that had came after us be served food before us, so I asked and they said it’ll be coming “soon” at this point I was ready to leave. We seen the manager ask the kitchen where our food is and they didn’t even know! I could tell he was very disappointed and the lady that seems to be in charge of the kitchen really has an attitude problem, I won’t go into detail of what I could hear her saying to the manager but it was extremely unacceptable and rude. After 1 hour and 30 minutes our food finally arrived, unfortunately it wasn’t anything special. It completely ruined our evening out and we shall not be returning.
Jimmy — Google review
Food was ok but service was incredibly slow! We arrived at around 4pm so not a busy period but they only had one waiter serving everyone at that time until a few more arrived later. We were there for over an hour and a half and we only managed to eat a main course in that time. We got sick of waiting for a waiter to take our pudding order we gave up and paid the bill instead (eventually!) They have also changed the menu, there is a lot less options available. I used to struggle deciding what to eat as there was so much choice but now it's a struggle to find something I like. Won't be going back again anytime soon!

I had evening menu, not the main menu. 3 course for under £20 Full of flavors, definitely recommend Like my son said, staff treat you like family.

Have been to the Trowbridge F&B several times at different times of day/evening, including on a busy Saturday night in a group of seven for a birthday, and service has always been really good at all times. Three of us went yesterday early lunchtime. We knew we had over 90 minutes before needing to get to an appointment, and especially because there were only three tables in there and two waitresses, we were confident that, as usual, we’d have plenty of time. How wrong we were! Started off normally, ordered our lunchtime menus and the starters came quite quickly. Naturally, they didn’t take long to eat, and we stacked the plates on the end of the table. Still only 3 tables of 2 or 4 people each were in the place(including us). Nobody came to clear the plates, and we waited patiently, but after about 15 minutes, still nobody came to clear them. Eventually, when I saw one of the waitresses standing chatting to a delivery guy (Uber eats or similar), directly opposite our table but with her back to us, I stood up and politely got her attention – she instantly said ‘You want to pay”? Obviously, she still hadn’t bothered to check or keep track of her tables. When I said no, we want to eat, she cleared our stater plates and left. Another 20 minutes later, after seeing several ‘Uber’ orders be despatched and another table receiving their order, and still no food for us, I politely stopped one of the waitresses and asked where our meals were, as we were now coming under time pressure, and still mains and dessert to eat. She said that we should have told her if we were in a hurry. I replied that we weren’t in hurry when we ordered, but we had been in there almost an hour and had only had our starters. No apology in any form, or promise to check with the kitchen, she just went back there and started chatting to another (or the same) delivery driver! Looking at the cook’s reaction, it seemed like they’d forgotten our order. When the food finally came (still no apology for the delay), the two pasta dishes my family had ordered were fine, but my chicken burger and chips were way overcooked. The chicken was dry and almost inedible, and the chips were almost burnt to a crisp. I would have raised this at the time, but we were now under so much time pressure that the last thing I wanted to do was be late for our appointment. We just had time to eat our meals as quickly as possible and leave. We didn’t even have time to eat the two desserts we’d pre-ordered, so we took one away and cancelled the other one (lost sales as well as an unhappy customer). It was only when we paid, that the waitress mumbled an apology a couple of times, but still didn’t mention the delay . just a “sorry about that” with zero sincerity. To be fair, it’s the only time to date that we’ve had any issue at F&B’s, even when visiting at the busiest times, and I know any place can have a blip every now and then. However, given that the place was almost empty, there’s no excuse for waiting staff not to pay attention to the customers. Even worse, trying to shift the blame to your customers when it’s clearly the staff who have dropped the ball, is just downright disrespectful, especially to me, who had remained calm and polite throughout (many wouldn’t). In the past, we’ve extolled how well-trained the staff in F&B are, but yesterday, they seemed more interested in chatting with the delivery guys. It seemed like they just couldn’t wait for their shift to be over and for customers to go. We will go again sometime, and hopefully yesterday was just a blip. Nevertheless, there’s no excuse for the customer-blaming. If we hadn’t been before and had such good service, we wouldn’t be considering returning. In context of similar standard/price places in Trowbridge, F&B’s service quality is normally what differentiates them from their competitors, so let’s hope this isn’t the new norm for F&B’s service.

Carvery
The Toby Carvery Trowbridge offers a delightful selection of roast meats, including turkey, lamb, and beef. Patrons can help themselves to as much as they desire, accompanied by a rich and velvety gravy. The satisfying meal fulfills any roasted meat cravings one may have. The restaurant also provides efficient and friendly service from the staff. With a choice of four different meats available - gammon, beef, lamb, and turkey - customers are sure to find something to suit their taste.
We were greeted promptly and shown to our table. The menu was explained and our drinks order taken. It was seemless. The food was hot, plentiful and varied. We were very happy with our meals. We took advantage of a special offer which was brilliant. A great meal at a great price.

Very efficient and friendly staff. The food was very good. Choice of four different meats. Gammon, beef, lamb and turkey. The trays were quickly topped up if they started running low. Will definitely go back. The desserts were big portions so we shared one.
Debora Worrall — Google review
Staff where very pleasant, carvery unfortunately looked like it had been sat for sometime , so veg looked pretty grim, have been many times but usually everything looks fresh today it didn't I only had cauliflower cheese and roast potatoes with the turkey my daughters Yorkshire pudding was solid. I do understand it depends on what time of day you go. But sure the chef can also see how bad the food looks . Yes maybe we should have asked if there was any fresh veg coming out , but we just picked what looked the best.

Went for the Sunday carvery today. Had a little of each meat. All of it was delicious. Great choice of perfectly cooked vegetables. Perfect Sunday dinner when you have fussy children present. Everyone enjoyed. Great value for money. Thoroughly recommend

No complaints. Visited for an early evening roast. Had a fussy baby. Was served almost immediately- saving us from a potential meltdown. Food excellent and loads of it. Refillable drinks such a good idea.
Kevin J King — Google review
It was way too busy with nowhere near enough staff. We waited in the carvery queue for half an hour , which was stretching halfway round the restaurant. It seemed as if the staff were so busy sorting out delivery drivers and takeaways, they had forgotten about the eat in customers. The food was, however delicious, when we finally got some. Not sure I will return again in a hurry though
Alexandra Dickenson — Google review
We were a party of 9 and chose here as its halfway for both parties. First time for all of us and we were all very happy with firstly the great friendly greeting at the door and our waitress was happy, patient and kept us topped up and very well looked after. Bit of a queue for the carvery, took this as a good sign. The meat selection was very good and very good portions dished out. Tip from me, if you're in a big party all queue at the same time. Will be back soon, keep up the good work guys 👌👍

Fabulous help yourself to Carvery Roast of meats available! Which in our case was Turkey Lamb and Beef with absolutely everything help yourself to as much as u can eat. Gravy was lush and thick, how I like it. Definitely fulfilled my Roast craving. Will definitely go back again. I wanted dessert, but didn't have room for it at the time so ordered my dessert to takeaway with us and have at home with cup tea. Yum!!! They obliged so looking forward to eating my billionares slice later.

The lady that looked after us through out are visit was very pleasant, happily talked us through certain aspects of the menu. One of our party is vegetarian, the menu has a large range of V options and the one she picked was very delicious and the portion was very good My wife and I have carved turkey and beef, and it was cooked perfectly, every thing we had with it was also very nice. Puddings were also perfect. Definitely going again.!

We visited for Christmas day dinner. Well thought out. Not too noisy. We asked for quiet spot and we were put in a private corner which was appreciated. It was well thought out, with place cards, Christmas card, sweets, crackers and candle. Service was good until when it obviously got a lot busier for staff. Food was excellent, with no queues

Gastropub
The Longs at Steeple Ashton, a gastropub that recently reopened after refurbishment, has quickly become a favorite among locals. From the diverse menu to the welcoming atmosphere, there's something for everyone to enjoy. The friendly staff and dog-friendly environment add to the overall charm of the place. The food is exceptional and reasonably priced, making it even more appealing. With its revamped decor and improved layout, The Longs provides a pleasant dining experience for all.
Recently reopened (on 9th Feb 2022) after an extensive refurb. Great decor, better layout. Great staff and atmosphere. 6X and Bath Ales Gem on draught. Bar nibbles also sampled and excellent. Posh fries got massive thumbs up from family. Nice to see a great crowd of people in a nice fresh environment. Look forward to a full meal soon.

Happened to be passing through Steeple Ashton and fancied some lunch - nothing too huge, just something to get me through the day. So glad I came here. Even though they were busy they managed to fit me in. Had a look at the menu and even though there were copious amounts of delight presented, I went for an old favourite "Fish & Chips". Not only is it the only fish I'll usually eat, it's a good way to judge somewhere new. I certainly wasn't disappointed. The chips were fluffy and light, the peas - which can be hit and miss - were delightful. The fish was battered to perfection. It was crispy, flaky and moist beyond compare. I sound like I'm gushing, but I could have eaten that dish all over again it was that good. This place is a bit out of the way, and probably best known to locals, but if you are passing down the A350 and fancy some great food, pop in. Staff are helpful and friendly and not in your face - which I'm sure, dear reader, you know I'm not a fan of!

Loving our local after the reopening. My favourite things are pretty much everything: the food, the atmosphere, the really friendly people that work there and how dog friendly it is (our pup Yogi is a fan). The food is amazing and really well priced for the standard of food too! - could not be more pleased to have a local like this, big thumbs up to the team there 👍

An excellent Sunday lunch for our family. Superb roast beef, perfectly cooked. Beautiful veg and Yorkhire puds. Service friendly and attentive. Will definitely be booking again very soon. Top marks to the Long Arms team.
Richard Hill — Google review
Sadly just ok. The food used to be amazing but not so much now. Used to be regulars 2 years ago but had moved so not used in that time. Garden was lovely. But now seems to be used by those of retirement age and over, no atmosphere. Such a shame as the make over was wonderful but everything else has gone. Bring back the fab food and vibe again. Can't use cash either - prefer to have a choice of method rather than dictated to by places. Also hate it when places add a service charge, I decide if I want to tip or not depending on the service I receive. If you have charge for it, then its not good! At least ask if people would like it added!

I visited Verona restaurant on Tuesday 21 February 2023 in the early evening, a weekday during term time. I was with one other person. This was my first visit. I used Google Maps to find the restaurant, which was easy and led me straight to the right place. I didn't book a table in advance, we just turned up. The restaurant comprises of one medium sized main dining area with a number of tables with full table service. The restaurant was bright and clean. The team were incredibly friendly and welcoming and I had no issues - we got everything we expected in good time and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I enjoyed a Tropicala pizza for my main course and the most delicious Tiramisu for dessert. The pizza arrived hot, was well presented and tasted really good. There was a good selection of food and I found something that appealed to me easily. The food was good value for money, I paid £30 for two courses and two drinks. Overall I really enjoyed my visit and would definitely come and visit again. The only reason I've given three stars for atmosphere was it was a bit chilly in the restaurant but the food and service were excellent.

Lovely independent restaurant. Unfussy inside with friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Went with 5 friends and lovely to have round table. 5 diff meals and all delicious - linguine, 2x risotto, chicken, pork. 4 cheesecakes and 1 tiramisu to follow - all so light and fluffy. Seriously good food with great service. Can’t believe I haven’t been before. We will definitely be back.

Second attempt eating here. It was booked the first night we tried. The server tried to get us in but she checked the time and could not let us. We came back tonight after booking on the phone and she immediately recognized us. The Risotto was perfect and my wife thoroughly enjoyed the lasagna. Highly recommend this restaurant if authentic is what you're after!!

Happy to support local businesses so went here. It’s not a “posh” restaurant, more like a family run place. The food was cheaper than most pub restaurants but I think I made a mistake ordering a steak in an Italian restaurant as it was very thin and gristly, but not bad enough to complain about at the time. Will probably come back but will stick to pasta next time.

If i could give more stars i certainly would. Firstly the hospitality was fantastic, up there with Michelin rated restaurants. Today was our first time here and we will most definitely return. The menu offers very traditional Italian cuisine, cooked in traditional authentic Italian style, not like the chain restaurants who claim to be of Italian origin. The service received was fantastic and very polite, during the process of ordering and delivery. The presentation of the food was superb, portion size was perfect. Everything was cooked to perfection and the taste was out of this world. We accompanied our meal with a bottle of Chardonnay, which was of a great standard. The dessert portions are very generous, again the taste is of a standard that deserves a Michelin star. Thank you for a wonderful afternoon, the fantastic service and above all for a meal that deserves to be up there with some of the greats. You truly deserve a Michelin star.
