The Lier Beguinage, also known as the Beguinage of Lier, is a historic site founded in 1258 and recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It consists of 11 streets, 162 houses, a convent, and an infirmary. The centerpiece is St. Margaret's Church, built in the 17th-18th centuries with a sober baroque style and rococo bell tower.
Snuif geschiedenis op. Spijtig genoeg veel huizen in verval. (Translated by Google) Soak up history. Unfortunately, many houses are in disrepair. The side against the city park is inhabited and beautifully restored. Nice to stroll through. The advantage here is that you are not bothered by the wind as you are along the Nete. Some city walks also continue here.

There are more than a dozen unesco world heritage sites in Belgium, many in Flanders including the begijnhof in Lier. It took locals to explain the history of the begijnhofs, of which there are several spattered around the region. The area itself in Lier is peaceful and well-maintained, very pleasant place to walk around. Upon learning the history, it shed a new light on what we were seeing there and in other Flemish towns / cities. Tip: read up on the history before you go.

Quiet and nice. A bit different with the Beguinages in Amsterdam and Brugge that both have large green open area as central courtyards, the Lier Beguinage is more like a tiny village with a few small alleys, interesting to visit

The Zimmer tower is a renowned landmark that features a 13-sided clock and an astronomical studio, designed by Louis Zimmer. The tower has a medieval appearance and is surrounded by several bars and restaurants, making it an ideal destination for those interested in astrology or horoscopes. Although parking can be difficult to find, visitors are sure to enjoy the beautiful building and streets that evoke the feeling of traveling back in time.
Absolutely mind blown 😱 Masterpiece. We are not people who visits museums often but this one was really good with a lot of history. Nice lady explained us and showed a bit of history. Even was after 5pm (closed at 5) she was very friendly and said: no rush. Even we came 16:15 - I think you need at least hour if you would like to explore more. This museum it’s not only history also you have access to tower and actually you can see all mechanism and process with details. Nice area around tower - park, nice cafes, toilet, car park literally 3 minutes away - you can pay by card/phone - 1h - 1.20€. Tickets to Tower: €5 Adults and 12 year old child - €2. Hope you enjoy visit as we did. No video recording. Only photo.

This impressive structure has multiple clocks that tell time, the seasons, the tides and even the zodiac amongst others. The tower itself dates back from the 1400’s while the clocks were installed in early 1930’s. Wear comfortable shoes, bring some binoculars and admire the spectacle of the 13 clock dials. Note: this tower is close to the entrance of town, and is open to the public. As other reviewers indicate there is a small museum next door. Worth reading up on the history of Louis Zimmer, the watchmaker that designed the clock and especially of the unique clock dials.

Zimmer tower is one of the most attractive towers in Europe. It has multiple devices that tell the current time on all continents, the phases of the moon, the time of tides and other periodic phenomena. It is surrounded by an area that has many restaurants and cafes. The setting is extremely picturesque and adds enormous interest to a visit to Lier.

What a masterpiece by genius clockmaker Louis Zimmer! This place just has so much details, starting from the 13 different clocks on the frontside of the Zimmer tower and on the side the carousel of the famous Belgian people who are sometimes actually moving. The Stadsmuseum Lier, established in 1892, boasts a notable collection of artworks from the local area spanning several centuries. The museum was founded through a significant financial donation and received further support in the 1930s. Housed within an 18th-century townhouse that underwent a neo-Gothic transformation in the late-19th century, it offers visitors a glimpse into Lier's history.
I highly recommend the city museum of Lier! IT is not very big, but it is very interactive. The museum is modern and interesting, detailing the history of the city, but also highlighting those living there now. It was fun to partake in medieval darts and other traditional games, to learn about old handicrafts and to understand more about the industrial history in the area. Highly recommend!

Een aantal mooie schilderijen, o.a. (Translated by Google) Renovated and very versatile museum about Lierse history, art, customs, parties, people, ... Entrance is very cheap at 4 euros for non-residents. A cloakroom with lockers is available at the reception. There is no audio guide or brochure, but signs with explanations are placed next to the works of art. Sometimes it is not clear which sign belongs to which work of art, because it is grouped together. A number of beautiful paintings, including Raymond de la Haye, are quite a discovery. Attention to folklore with running horses, giants and the opportunity to play ostrich game. In the last room, a salon has been staged where a work by Rubens and his son Bruegel hangs. At the back you can also admire a 3D print of a mammoth. There is such a variety of themes that it becomes a bit of a joke and the great Lierse artists do not get their full potential. A separate museum dedicated to Timmermans, Opsomer, etc. Would not be an unnecessary luxury. After 2.5 hours you have seen most of it.

I was there with school this year. We got a guide and visited the tower. A unique trip that made us realize how hard people worked to create beautiful churches, cathedrals and buildings that we now call monuments. The guide gave us a lot of knowledge, and the view from the tower made a great impression on us!

This very old church in Lier was closed for renovation when I visited. The renovation will take a few years. The construction of this gothic church started in the late 14th century and was only finished in the 16th. It is built with what the locals define as white stone and has an imposing tower that houses 45 bells.

We had a meal at Het Moment, a restaurant located near the main square in Lier. Despite its busy atmosphere, we were able to find a table and quickly placed our orders. The spare ribs and "Vlaamse stoverij" were both flavorsome and reasonably priced. The fries, although not perfectly crispy, were satisfactory. Overall, the location was excellent with fast service and tasty food.
So delicious food and great service.

Het Moment has it pros and cons. It is a nice place to come in the evening for a small drink in a nice atmosphere. The place is large, so it doesn’t look crowded, and location and view are great. And the best part that it is always open. On the other hand food is quite mediocre for its price. In a way you pay for being always open and ready to serve. The food is not bad, but it feels like cooking at home out of good quality frozen food :)

The food is nice, it's not super special and doesn't excell but it tastes good and the service is much better than most restaurants. If you're looking for a place where there is something for everyone this is the place to be.

Stopped by for lunch near the main square in Lier. It was quite busy on the day, and we were told to look for a table in case one is free. After finding a table and them cleaning it, we quickly ordered (though the waiter did not look like he was paying attention) and received our food swiftly. The spare ribs and "Vlaamse stoverij" were delicious, for a decent price as well. The fries were broad ones, but not quite crispy enough for my taste. But that's personal preference. In general, great location, fast service, good food. Unfortunately the service felt lackluster, perhaps due to the amount of people present.

Was positief. (Translated by Google) Came here for breakfast on a Sunday morning 2 years ago. Was positive. So I want to treat my children and grandchildren to breakfast. Reserve a table at the children's corner a year in advance. Called regularly to confirm. When we arrived, it turned out that another family had occupied 'our table' and we were placed 'upstairs'. You must reserve by name. Then put names on the tables and no discussion. Sitting upstairs....Awkward to walk down the stairs every time to get food, get coffee, or go to the buffet with toddlers. The breakfast buffet....very poorly replenished. Those who came a little later could shake it. Unappetizing 'egg mush' was supposed to represent scrambled eggs. I didn't have any fruit salad, the French cheeses...only the rinds were still there... Butter...finished, coffee...finished...... Mozzarella...finished It was taking what was still there... No chance to get a clean plate. So you had to eat the cake in the tomato sauce... Either you take fewer 'guests', or you provide sufficient staff. I really have a very bad experience here. If you come here for breakfast ... 1 tip .... Come at 9 o'clock and stock up on everything in one go. Otherwise you will only have 'surplus' and 'leftovers'. Breakfast is provided until 11 am, but it was already 'cleaned up' at 10.15 am.

Hier kom ik nooit meer, zoveel is duidelijk :) (Translated by Google) Called to reserve a table for 2, it was confirmed on the phone that that was no problem. Most food is great, nice ambiance, two spaces are in use as a terrace and also plenty of room inside, servants are very friendly

Surprisingly excellent food! And portions are huge. The rare case when I got super full while enjoying it throughout the whole eating. The atmosphere is cozy and service is good as well. Highly recommend!

Great food in an amazing setting, be sure to get a spot on the patio because it is gorgeous! Service was friendly but not perfect, it happens but it does cost you a star: expensive optional meat sauces, forgot to bring some drinks, and the specials apparently aren't itemised on the bill (annoying when you have to split it between diners).

Overpriced for the quality of the food. Prepare to pay extra for a salad and sauce wich should be included in a 40€ piece of meat.

We had 6 tapas, a bottle of house wine, two cavas and two coffees and we paid 150 euros. The food is of good quality but value for money is not okay. The croquettes were simply cold (frozen?) Also service is not what you can expect. They forgot to bring wine glasses, they don’t give attention. Other big problem is that the website uses different prices with the card in the restaurant. It’s a rather lame way to trick people. For me it’s a one time experience. Won’t go back there. There are better places to eat tapas.

Great food and well presented. Very courteous staff, also at busy times. They serve a wide variety of well chosen foods, you can easily visit with people that have very different likings. The setting is also very authentic.

nice setting in the center of Lier. close to parking. varied menu including veggie, fish and great meat options. Season based suggestions. Friendly service. They may run out of fresh mint as a minor remark.

Kind of a mixed experience. Beautiful venue and outdoor area, with a huge tent cover to dine under, loved the atmosphere. And great cocktails. The food is where it gets tricky so I'll give individual scores. Starter 5/5 We chose the variety of cold tapas for two as a starter and got a great selection of cold meats, cheese, hummus and sides, really nice and worth every €. For our main courses: 3/5 I got the Rib-eye chianina tagliata, a €38 Italian slice of beef, grilled and cut, served with some rucola and parmigiana cheese. Honestly for me it wasn't worth it, for the price you pay it was underwhelming. I expected something better, it wasn't bad but just not great either. It lacked depth and flavor. The whole dish revolves around the meat and it just didn't stand out. Also the few sprinkles of cheese on top where kind of sad, a bit too few too small. My girl had the smokey burger: 3,5/5 I gotta say it looked amazing from my side of the table. But she told me it was too salty, and we both like salty so that's gotta mean something. Also the two slices of cheese ment this overpowered the flavor of the meat. We will definitely give it a second chance, the staff was super friendly and a great atmosphere/location. I'll definitely update this after our next visit.

Highly recommended in the centre of Lier! The interior, although very charming, doesn't compare to the patio outside. Very romantic and cozy on a Summer's night. The food is delicious and varied. Service is fast and very friendly. Will definitely come back!
