I recently received a delivery from the India Pavilion, and I must say it was an amazing meal. Despite it being a Friday night, the delivery was prompt and there was not a single thing to complain about. The food hit the brief perfectly and exceeded my expectations. Although I couldn't comment on the atmosphere since it was takeaway, I enjoyed their special chicken tikka biryani and original chicken korma, both of which were delicious and prepared on time.
OMG! We've just received our delivery from the India Pavillion...It has been a long time since we have had such an awesome meal! Delivered promptly, despite being a Friday night. Not a single thing to complain about our meal. Hit the brief...and how!

Great food but watch out for early closing. Two of us walked in at 2215 for a main course only sit down meal (having literally just passed the previous customers as they walked away after their meal) to be told it was takeaway only - the hours on Google are advertised as a 2300 finish. We were looking forward to a curry so decided to go ahead & order with the intention of finding a dry spot in town to eat the meal. We ordered the chicken tikka chamakchola which came with pilau rice & to be fair, it was very good - just a shame we couldn't dine in especially seeing as we'd eaten our food & got back to our hotel by 2300.

Should change the chef.. no salt no spice. When we have informed the same to the waiter, the chef stormed on us yelling at how can we complain about his food, a chef of 21 years. Worst dining experience ever and I’d not recommend this behaviour at anyone

Having had a nice meal before I was disappointed in our food tonight. The onion bhaji didn’t taste cooked. The rest of the food was lukewarm. We will go back to three in one as our takeaway of choice.

Charged £7 for the smallest portion of pakora ive ever received. DO NOT BUY FROM HERE - DAYLIGHT ROBBERY!!

Decent food. Decent prices. Slow inattentive yet friendly service. No alcohol license, but BYOB with corkage allowed. Starters of mince samosas and a prawn poori were average. mince lacked flavour and could have been warmer, but it was edible. Bread for poori was light, sweet sauce on the poori was the same sweet sauce on the chick peas that accompanied the samosas. Nice enough. Mains were much better and would entice us back. Lamb in my lamb achari was tender and tasty. The sauce had the perfect amount of lime pickle and garlic. The chicken chasni had heaps of tasty tender chicken in a sweet red sauce. Rice and naan were perfect. Server and cook/owner were very friendly, but not what I'm looking for in a restaurant. I want good speedy service. Took 20 minutes to get the bill then another 15 to take the money to pay it. I've learned that's life on Bute. Other restaurants are similar!

Fantastic food. The flavours were amazing. Large onion bhajis. Poppadum and dips were lovely with lime pickle, spiced onions and mango chutney. 4 curries, 3 rice 1 chips 2 naan breads altogether came to £98. I'm on crutches so it was perfect on the flat, no stairs. Very friendly helpful staff bagged up what we couldn't eat to take away. Owner came over to have a chat which was really nice. Would definitely go again.

Pub
Restaurant
The Black Bull Inn is a charming family-friendly bar and restaurant located in the picturesque Victorian seaside town of Rothesay on the Isle of Bute. Managed by Angie and Scott, this cozy pub offers an extensive selection of real ales and delicious homemade meals. Situated across from Rothesay Marina, it's an essential part of the local culture and comes highly recommended for its warm atmosphere and friendly staff.
I went in last week and had an excellent meal and evening. The staff were really friendly, welcoming and happy to talk and share suggestions about places to visit on the island. We felt very welcome and the pub has a great atmosphere. I would definitely come back if on Bute again.

McQueen burger - seriously, one of the best burgers I've had in my lifetime. Had the extra burger with cheese and mushroom. Steaky awesomeness in a bun. We were there Friday night in April just off the ferry - worth phoning to book a table, just in case.

Probably one of the better spots for dinner in Bute. No dogs for some reason which is really sad. Tough to get a reservation even though it's not very full at all? As other reviews state it seems like the servers would just rather not have many guests for some reason. Unfortunately as 3 vegetarians we ordered a Caesar salad and the waitress heard us as "Chicken salad" when we tried to rectify this by asking if it came that way as we didn't see it on the menu, we were assured it did, but after looking at the menu again it was an add on. We asked it to be taken off the bill but the waitress said we ordered it that way, kind of sad we have to pay for their mistake and not a big deal but at least take it off the bill? Sort of unfortunate everything else was fine.

Big party of 18. Ordered in advance. Some orders missing. Staff rather disinterested. As long as food went out. Did apologise for missing dishes. Food itself was average. Bit greasy. Won’t rush back.

Great pub very friendly and welcoming. Great pub grub too but check and book as not serving food every day and night and it’s in demand so it’s best to book.

Great place for an evening meal. I recommend you book in advance. It also has a good menu.
Allister Cameron — Google review
Pre-booked a table for 7pm..one of our party arrived 6.55 and was told if we didn't order by 7pm they wouldn't take our order. Very early to stop serving especially when we had prebooked. Was told the only vegan option was "the chicken salad without the chicken". We left with out eating. Is a shame as it is a cosy wee pub with good prospects.

A good pub meal. Staff were lovely, food was decent enough, and there was beer !
Abigail Gray — Google review
Couldnt find anything attractive about this place at all. It has been a miserable, real old school, drinking mans howff for the 50 years, I've been going to Rothesay. Its not alone. The town has several such like establishments the island is famous for its scenic beauty but when it comes to hospitality and entertainment there is everything to be desired. The " Doon the Water" heydays are long gone. There is little in the way of good evening entertainment to attract the holidaymaker.😱🙄

Country food restaurant
Brechin's, a charming country food eatery located on Bridgend Street in Bute, offers an authentic dining experience for visitors to the island. The establishment is well-known for its freshly made soup and home baked bread rolls, providing a delightful taste of local cuisine. Patrons can also enjoy proper espresso-based beverages such as americano and lattes, distinguishing Brechin's from other establishments that rely on generic instant coffee brands.

I saw that another person gave this awesome place 2 stars for not being open, and I just had to write my own review. Me and my wife visited Bute in the middle of 2015 and during our 5 day stay on Bute we visited Brechin's no less than 5 times. It was our office, our coffee shop, lunch spot and the owners treated us like family. It was a great place with freshly made soup and home baked bread rolls. The coffee was proper espresso made americano and lattes which we enjoyed very much (I think the only place on the island that didn't use nescafe). The place have great wifi and cool atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit when on Bute!

Delicious food, reasonable prices and relaxed atmosphere. A particular delight were the 'fries', which were actually small chunks of potato which had been cooked in olive oil. Very tasty.

We were in Bute for a day trip. Wandering on the streets we came across this cute Brasserie. What caught our eye was the decoration related to music. In the shop window they were selling a brilliant set of Shopping List sheets called: "Chopin Lizt". I got them. Once inside the waiter couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. Nice conversation, stories and environtment. In the menu, the only chicken burger was spicy. I asked him if they had a non-spicy chicken burger. He apologized for not having it. I order the spicy one. One minute later he came back with the news that somebody was going to the local butcher ( who provides daily the burgers and other stuff) to ask for a non-spicy chicken burguer. The burger was delicious. Fresh and tasty with homemade chips and nice salad. Hughly recommended. Well done Tim and Ann. You made our trip even more enjoyable.

Tim Saul and his wife run this fantastic little restaurant/music shop/bar in Rothesay. The food is good and unpretentious and the all day breakfast is unbeatable. The ambience is very relaxed with visitors and locals alike engaging in lively banter whilst aspiring and established musicians can sample the musical instruments available for purchase. In the short period we were there for lunch Tim sold 2 mandolins and a bodhran while serving meals and drinks and chatting with all and sundry. We could have stayed all day drinking coffee and just hanging out but we had a ferry to catch.

Best pub in Rothesay!! So many good memories there of my year and al half living in Bute. I always come back! Best beer in the isle too and the owners are amazing. Dog friendly ❤️
Ana Barrera — Google review
Small old fashioned hostelry (which I like) but with more space inside than you'd expect judging by the entrance. And there is a pleasant beer garden upstairs on a sunny terrace with trestle tables and umbrellas to shade customers from the sun.... or let's face it, maybe the Rothesay rain! It's more or less just off the street High street at the corner of the wee square beside the castle. Behind Guildford square (pic 1) that's opposite the ferry terminal. Excellent value for drinks - I paid £3.90 for a pint of cider. Much needed after I'd climbed Barone hill behind Rothesay and come back past Loch Fad (around a mile away, see second pic) watching the pair of ospreys! A pint of cider in Edinburgh cost me £5.50 so there is a moral to this tale. OK, food isn't served and the beer garden isn't the nicest one I've seen, and that requires climbing a flight of stairs, but the vibe in the Galatea was quiet and old-fashioned in a good way. I reckon I'll be back next time. Good value for money.
