The Arco del Cubo de Zafra, also known as Puerta de Badajoz, is an ancient northern gate of the medieval city. It holds great significance in the old town and represents a remarkable historical landmark. The arch visible today is a 17th-century addition, while the original entrance was likely located within the tower on the left side of the image.

(Translated by Google) This arch is the one that opens in what was the northern gate of the wall, the one that opened onto the road to Badajoz, hence its name. It has an image of Santiago. What really stands out is the tower. Once we have crossed the arch we enter Tetuan Street which takes us to Plaza Grande.

(Translated by Google) The Arco del Cubo de Zafra corresponds to what was the north gate of the town of Zafra, the Puerta de Badajoz, perhaps the most important gate the town had. The arch itself is a late work (17th century) since the old door was in the tower attached to the arch, in which is the equestrian figure of Santiago Matamoros (the Feria were very close to the Order of Santiago) and below the same the arch of what was the real door.

(Translated by Google) This arch is located at the end of Tetuán street, in front of the Church of the Santísimo Cristo del Rosario, being a work from the 17th century, and constituting the Badajoz gate, the most important that the town had, which was originally in the attached tower, which was built between 1426 and 1442. It has been recently restored and currently shows its original appearance. In April 2019, an Interpretation Center was inaugurated inside, which aims to disseminate the history of the city. Next to the arch we find the picturesque La Marquesa restaurant, located in an old mill, a spectacular place and highly recommended if we find ourselves in that area at lunch time.

I couldn't highlight one dish, although I want to make a special mention of the beans with partridge and the roast suckling pig. From the first tapa to the dessert. The chef always worried about whether everything was good, not just good, we didn't know what to decide, so on the second day we decided to put ourselves in his hands and let ourselves go. The best thing we did. I have been in Madrid for 22 now and I have eaten the best Madrid-style tripe in Zafra. The best roast suckling pig and I have been to Segovia. I do not have words to describe it. Of course, since this weekend we are regular customers. I recommend it without a doubt. I absolutely adore this establishment, and the jamon bellota and tuna tartar are exceptional! The staff members are also incredibly pleasant. Love this place, and the jamon bellota and the tuna tartar is a hammer! Personal is also very nice and plaisant. I come often for dinner here and I'm never disappointed. If course depending your taste some dishes are better, some probably not your taste, so yes I also experienced a plate or 2 I didn't like much, but overall it's very good here, and the risotto are great, the fish, and meat too, the tapas like the jamon and tuna tartar are just amazingly delicious. What a find. A bit pricey, but the food we had was fantastic. We had the tostadas, just such high quality. And the best service we’ve had in Spain so far, friendly waiter who happily explained the dishes to us. We had lunch, but the atmosphere inside is the sort of place I’d happily spend an entire evening. Just great.

Great tapas, but a bit pricey. The cost of tapas of same if not better quality were had in Seville or other larger cities in Spain. Very nice to sit on a busy and lively plaza in Zafra.

O melhor lugar! Can’t recommend this enough. It’s located in the most beautiful square. Delicious! And the service was great, especially the camarero who was super kind and friendly, and took time in explaining the dishes and making recommendations. Some of the other staff were too much in a rush and were stressful.

Bar restaurante MERAKI is an excellent establishment with a stylish contemporary interior and ample outdoor seating in the lively square. The staff are exceptionally friendly and efficient, ensuring prompt service. The dishes on offer are delicious and reasonably priced. It is worth noting that English is spoken here, which is quite remarkable for this area. In addition, it provides a wonderful ambiance for enjoying drinks. This bar also offers delectable tapas at affordable prices, making it a perfect spot to relax and unwind.
Great place for lunch, tapas and a beer. Service was fast & good, the vibe is nice. Check it out.

Great place. Nice modern interior, lots of outdoor seating on the square in front. Service is very friendly and swift. Dishes are tasty and not expensive. They speak English here, which is rather exceptional in this region. Also great just to have drinks.

I really wanted to love this place. It looks so nice from the outside, is in a great location in the Plaza and the staff are very smart and really friendly... but I think the rest lets it down. We have a saying in the UK "all fur coat and no knickers" and sadly I think it is rather apt here. They give some quite tasty dips and picos (free) which is a nice touch. Sadly, the tinto de verano wasn't even up to the standard of my mum's small village in Andalucia (or one of the other bars on the Plaza). The presa was a little overcooked and I can't put a finger on what was wrong with the chips (too oily maybe?). The oxtail meatballs really were quite delicious - but only four small ones? Not an issue if the price reflected it...... I am glad that they don't charge for the bread - I think it's the cheap part-baked variety, for which there is no excuse in Spain! It was by no means a horrific experience, but the price/quality ratio was completely off, I'm afraid I've had better tapas during my travels through Spain. The only saving grace was the location and staff. I think perhaps they are making the most out of the tourists by often being the only bar open in the early afternoon.......
