The Giant Plane Tree in Telavi is a beloved local landmark and a must-see for visitors. Estimated to be over 900 years old, this Orientalis tree stands at an impressive 40 meters in height and 12 meters in diameter. It has witnessed numerous historical events and is a source of pride for the locals. Visitors can enjoy the picturesque view of the Alazani valley from this iconic spot.
A tree of life... thus tree is about 900 years old. It witness a decades of Georgian history.
Barry Mamarasid — Google review
This giant tree stands in my home town Telavi. How to reach it? 😍 It is easy, it stands in the central part if the town. If you see the historical fortifucation stone wall it means you are at a right place, near the King Erekle II palace, out of the wall you should see the King's statue sitting on the horse - equestrian statue and when you wake up from the beauty of Alazani valley and Great Caucasus mountains you follow the steps down, cross the street and you are there at Giant Plane Tree more than nine hundred years old, about fifty metre height, 3.6 metre diametre, 12 metre width, M.S.L. 750 m. Guess how many people you need to make the chain around it 🤔
My Wine Trail MWT Maka Tarashvili — Google review
The tree is over 900 years old and stands proudly in place. It's worth the little stroll to see it. Just below are some interesting "steam punk" style snail figures.

The Plane tree in Telavi is a 900 year old Orientalis tree that is 40 m in height and 12 m in diameter. Part of the center half has been eroded over times. Witness to many historical events in the world, this tree stands strong in the center of Telavi overlooking the Alazani valley.
Chan Komagan — Google review
The tree is huge. Situated next to the road. Nothing much to do there. You need to spend only some time taking a few pictures.
Mou Raj — Google review
A true Methuselah! In more than 900 years, this platanus orientalis has grown to Biblical sizes: 46 meters high and a trunk with a diameter of 3.6 meters and a circumference of 12 meters!

very nice and amazing views, also food is so delicious and a very friendly staff ^_^ you wont lose if u visit there <3
Sergi Khatelishvili — Google review
As we know, this legendary tree is about 900 years old. In principle, methods and technologies are judged to approximately date the age of even an uncut tree. It saddens me that this huge tree has lost almost the entire inside of the trunk and it can barely hold its huge forks. It is also sad that the video footage taken in the second half of the 70s of the twentieth century clearly shows that the tree did not have the horrific problems described above. The thought creeps into my mind that we ourselves are vynovaty in this. We obviously couldn't save this tree from slaughter.
Kakha Khmelidze — Google review
Bar was closed but the tree was there to enjoy. Also, great view from the balcony.

Very very nice place right behind the platan tree with nice terrace and sitting hall. The meenu is giving nice opportunity of eating Georgian as well as well known international cuisine. Beef stroganoff and mexican potato along with Georgian traditional dishes is good option for lunch and dinner. Local bier choice stands together with rich wine assortment. Not the least is the service which is provided very fast and staff members speaking Russian and English are smiling and very very welcoming. It is worth of visiting though prices are a bit higher than ordinar but it is worth of it. And try local bier Alkhanaidze it is really very good.

Giant tree for you shade on a hot summer day 900+years old. There's some stats on the side. Came as part of a larger visit to kakheti from tbilisi, otherwise probably not worth coming for this sole purpose unless you really want to see it. Statue of king erekle nearby too

Probably one of the best restaurans in Telavi, providing local and European dishes. Has great views on Telavi, Alazani valley and Caucasus Mountains. Prices are medium, service is excellent ! Staff is friendly and polite !

Fortress
Museums
Batonis Tsikhe, also known as the Master Fortress or Princes Fortress, is a historic site located in Telavi, Georgia. It was reconstructed in the 17th century and features ramparts, towers, a royal palace, and bathhouses within its compound. The fortress has witnessed power struggles and political turmoil throughout history. The complex is situated within old fortification walls made of uncut stones due to the city's history of being besieged numerous times.
This is a large complex placed inside the old fortification wall. The area is quite big. The walls are built of uncut stones. Probably this is because this city has been besieged many times by hordes of disgusting numerous enemies who have destroyed it many times. And as I guess, there was no point in building high-quality and elegant walls. There are many historical and important things remained inside this fortress. There is King Erekle II Palace, new Telavi Historical Museum and a couple of preserved old churches. One of them, which is smaller, as we know, was built in the 17th century by the son of St. Ketevan, King Teimuraz I of Kakheti. And the second, comparatively large church was built under the reign of King Erekle II himself. This is an important spiritual place for Georgians.
Kakha Khmelidze — Google review
Nestled in the heart of Telavi is the Batonitsikhe Fortress, where the Kakhetian kings lived centuries ago. This fortress, built with strong stone walls, tells stories of the past. Inside, you can explore the Telavi Historical Museum, where you can learn about the history of the area. You can also visit the palace of King Erekle II, designed like those you might find in Persia, with its grand and majestic style. There are many dogs there that can follow you along and be aware as well. Several days later I heard some tourist was even bitten.
Ekaterine (Catherine) — Google review
Small parking at the top and nothing inside the walls. No real reason to drive or walk to the top. Looks best from the main road.
Johan Lambrechts — Google review
Inside the museum was very interesting with local history in the permanent show and then the other half of the museum was of Georgian historical art which was amazing but this was a temporary display. We paid 5 gel and it was definitely worth having a look around but it isn’t really suit for young children. Overall worth a visit if you in the small city.
Harvey Selwood — Google review
In the heart of Telavi you will find the Batonitsikhe Fortress, the residence of the Kakhetian kings in the 17th and 18th centuries with its impressive natural stone walls. Within its walls are the Telavi Historical Museum and the Persian-style palace of King Erekle II.
Koen — Google review
Although it is placed in the center of the city, being on the fortress's walls makes you think you are at the edge of it. It would be nice if there were any trees placed in the inner space of the fortress, what will give you a shadow in a hot sunny day. There is a museum right in the center of the fortress, don't forget to visit it!

Telavi Bazaar is a vibrant and colorful market in Georgia, offering a wide variety of fresh produce, including fruits, vegetables, spices, and preserves. It is the perfect place for leisurely walks and small-scale shopping. The market boasts local and organic products such as tomatoes that are incredibly delicious throughout Georgia. Visitors can also indulge in Georgian delicacies like churchkhela (fruit leather) and explore the selection of cheese.

We love Telavi very much. It's a great place, a great small town with a medieval touch. This city is located quite high, its center is located at an altitude of about 720 meters from sea level. About 11-12 years ago, the center, the historical part of the city, was beautifully and qualitatively restored. This is a fairly large area. But this particular place around today's bazaar (a retail market for food and other goods) is simply extremely unpleasant, unsettled and out of date. Yes, you can buy a lot of things there, delicious food and other things, but still this place is bad. It needs a major update. Private cars depart from the adjacent place to the capital, to Tbilisi. They seat four passengers in the car. Each seat now to Tbilisi costs 10 GEL. It must be said here that their passenger cars that were parked there are all designed for a maximum of two passengers in the back. And these drivers put three people in there. This is unacceptable and bad. Although it is clear that this is done because of the economically poor state of the country, the drivers and passengers.

Telavi is a sweet little city. This is a former royal city, a historical, glorious city. I love it so much. This restaurant is in a great location. They have a nice courtyard. There are two floors there. Sometimes there are a lot of people there and sometimes it is very uncrowded and quiet. They cook well there. We liked all the dishes. The service staff is good. The last time we were there, there were a lot of visitors, but our order was brought pretty quickly. The prices there are not very high, quite reasonable.

The only thing that was good day was hachapuri: The rest was horrible: 1) they cooked in the wrong way 2 meals: the only that was in the pot was cold even though you have to cook it in the pot. So they pre-cooked it instead of cooking in the pot and it was still frozen when it was served. 2) in another mean they have used the wrong cheese, it was too salty, very salty, it was almost impossible to eat 3) we have asked for the homemade lemonade - and I have asked if it was sweet or not(I do not drink sweet drinks), the waiter said that it is not sweet but it is sweet. 4) the wine was impossible to drink, because it was the cheapest wine they could bring And !!!!!!!!! 5) they brought a bill with a 5% (yes, just 5%) discount Their excuse was that it was too busy and they brought extra chefs. And that’s it. 6) And the waiter has charged us the full price!!!!!! When I came to talk to the manager - the owner rejected to talk to us and service manager has not apologized. The worst experience ever. Don’t come! There are so many other places with amazing food in Georgia. Just not this one.

If you sit at the outside table without entering the inner space, then this place will seem to you just a modern casual café. Sweets and hot drinks are usually ordered there. These drinks are not high-end. Sweets too. The service staff are quite young people. In general, nothing outstanding. The atmosphere seems to be not bad there. They have a bar inside, but we haven't tried it in business. So, I don't want to judge that. I think the prices are high.

Do not go to this place. The pictures on the menu do not correspond to the reality. I ordered meal with mushrooms that came only with little slices of fat and nerves swinging on a disgusting creamy sauce. Probably trying to hide the poor quality of the meat. My brother ordered smoked pork that was boiled...no comment. To be avoided.

Quite a nice place with a lot of options. I really enjoyed my lunch there. Travellers can charge their devices from the electric plugs under the tables. Employees are kind and professional. Food is tasty, but it comes in a small portion as other people commented here. But worse than that, they charge around 18% of service fee. I’ve never seen this in any other restaurant in Georgia. It looks like a tourist trap.

Super experience in this restaurant. Before entering, the distinguished style of the building caught my attention. Once inside I was welcomed by a motivated staff who gave me their undivided attention and made themselves available to show me around both the hotel and the restaurant. After sitting down at the table I was surprised by the menu, all local food (kaheti) with local products (as I was later informed by the staff). I had "Chikhirtma" and "doli bread" (home made), and for dessert "Sweet Plov". My opinion: everything was perfect. They made my lunch a very good experience that I will surely remember. Thank you!!

Very cosy and nice place. Exceptionally good service. There are not many places in Georgia where you will have such delicious traditional tomato salad with sunflower oil with “Guda” cheese. As a main dish, I tried delicious pork Mtsvadi. As for dessert, waitress recommended “khalva ice-cream” and I am happy that I took her recommendation into account- it was super tasty! Wine: Goderdzishvili Cellar, Rkatsiteli, amber dry!

Food was served stylish and rustic, and the atmosphere in the small restaurant was great. Service was very friendly and knowledgeable when it came to the wine list. If you are planning on going to Telavi this should be on your list of things to experience.

Restaurant Batontan offers a mix of experiences according to recent visitors. The service can be slow, especially if you don't speak Georgian, but the food is worth the wait. The interior is clean and impressive, but some find the traditional Georgian dishes underwhelming. On the other hand, others rave about the delicious kebabs and pizza, as well as the wide selection of Georgian wines.
Common problem what I noticed in Telavi restaurants is no normal exhaust system provided and after having food, you clothes smell the same

Super disappointed in service and quality of food here.. we were two, instead of placing us on table for 4 (there was many free tables), they placed us in lounge area of hotel with tiny unstable sofa table. We ordered grilled vegetables, grilled pork with sacebeli sauce and wine. Vegetables were good even considering that some pieces of pepper were burned at all. We got pork, the waiter was gonna bring sacebeli for pork and disappeared. In 5 minutes we went to them and asked for sauce and only after we got it, when pork was already getting cool. About pork: out of 10 pieces about 3 pieces were meat, others - bones and fat, impossible to cut, impossible to chew. Also impossible to call for any waiter - they just don't notice guests asking for them. Hungry. We won't come back

The worst experience I’ve had recently. Bread (Shoti) - It was very dry and hard, almost impossible to chew. Salad - cucumbers were bitter, very small portion Ojakhuri - Just frees mixed with some onion, not a real Ojakhuri at all! Tomato sauce - what a shame Pork Mtsvadi - small portion, half of it hard to chew or bone. Kababi - small portion, not worth it but still better than the others. At least wine was okay. All in all, not recommended.

Great place. We tried their kababi and pizza. Both were great. We tried their cheese cake, which was delicious. They also have a great wine selection. Overall, 9/10

The Restaurant in one sight appears a highest class, because of cleanness and perfect interior. and four stars I mark only because of this. But in reality Georgian meals are not so good, especially khinkali has a very strange unpleasant taste

If you have patience then go here, if you speak Georgean language - you will be pretty satisfied with the service. Tonight I came here for dinner with my mom and my husband and we had none of above. After about 40 minutes and only two tables including ours occupied we were able to place our order. Food was great! Tomato salad, kebabs and khinkali we were pleasantly surprised how tasty the food was. However communication with the wait staff was especially difficult. I wish I spoke Georgian language.
