At the fair you will find handicrafts, fabrics and carpets. It's a shame that despite being so famous, it's still covered with plastics that in the rain it's uncomfortable to be outside

Nice local market with good handcrafted things. I like most of the quality, but there are a few shops with fake brands like Nike, adidas, etc. Don’t but that, only the handmade clothes etc.

On Saturdays it's a crowded place with many market stands. As the name says you can buy ponchos and other handmade textiles there for a good price if you are into trading with the locals. Only very few beggars on the main square.

Great place for artesian goods

This place was a riot of colors, vendors and just lovely stuff all around! We went to the Saturday market and there were dozens of vendors selling all sorts of interesting things. The prices are pretty steep but it's a great experience to be amidst the lovely Chaos! I highly recommend this place if you want to get a flavor of the local culture.

More variety in La Mariscal market in Quito, so not worth making the two hour journey from the city. Plus the vendors are very aggressive in trying to sell (unlike in Quito).

Beautiful local crafts.

Great place, full of beautiful handcrafted gifts. You can find ornaments, clothing, jewelry, musical instruments, anything. The best time to visit the Plaza is early in the morning around 8am. Prices sometimes can be little high but they accept fair offers. This is is must visit when you visit Ecuador.

Open market in the center of Otavalo. One of the first of yhe year and it was packed full of everything you could think of. From textiles to fruits and veggies to hand crafted leather work. It was awesome!

The best poncho market that I have ever been too. Got to love ecuador, it's beautiful clothing craftsmanship is outstanding.

As a tourist it was amazing to see these beautiful ponchos designed the way they are. I definitely had to buy me some. Loved the patterns. But you can buy ponchos anywhere in Ecuador.

The best shower we’ve had in Ecuador, hot with amazing pressure. The price for a Thursday was $18.00 and for that we were very happy with the room. The beds were comfortable and it was very quiet at night. The wifi was also great

Great location close to everything including bus station. Clean room with plenty of hot water. But best part is the owners attention and helpfulness. They not only can provide transportation for you but will help with information regarding trips and areas of interest.

A good value hostel/hotel in Otavalo. We had a spacious room, nice breakfast and a hot shower. If you want to visit the Otavalo marker this place is great because its 200m away from the market. Also great information about the nearby touristic attractions.

Best shower of Ecuador, heat and pressure! Diego the owner is an amazing guide! He made me practice Spanish for 2 hours during transport . Very safe with 24 hours front desk. Close to the market. They were not cheap on the toilet paper , changed towels . Sheets were nicer quality than many other budget hostal or small hotels.

Tranquil place above Otavalo with fantastic view on Imbabura volcano and San Pablo lake.

This was a great viewpoint for looking around the surrounding area. Unfortunately the larger tree has now parished and only some small pieces remain. As a viewpoint and peaceful space, it is nice. But the info plaque is broken and there isn't much else to do after looking at the views. It's also a rather rugged drive to this spot with a stretch of dirt road and very little too tell you where to go. Google Maps tried to send us down every horse path and impassible road on the way up. It probably took us a half hour more than it should have to find the place. A local taxi would probably know the best way... Just don't necessarily trust Maps at the moment.

Respectfully, a sacred place for natives, but overhype for tourists. The tree itself is old and has a uniqueness. It's fascinating.. the area around the tree is penned off to keep people from damaging the tree or the grounds around it. Pretty view of the area.

It's not really a mirador, you don't see much honestly but the way to go up there is worth it, especially with a bike. If you bike down to the cascade (direction Peguche), it's a marvellous downhill!

Incredible trip, a really amazing and interesting place, the energy is very special and the location and the view are breathtaking, one more place to go if you really want to get to know Otavalo and its landscapes.

Variety of traditional and modern Ecuadorian dishes. The portions are huge. Tasty food and attentive service. Would go back. I had llapingacho and partner had parrida de carnes and empanadas.

While on a day trip to Otavalo I had lunch at Resturante Mi Otavalito. I ordered the Llapingachos which are Ecuadorian fried potato pancakes and are similar to Colombian arepas. The potato patties or thick pancakes are stuffed with cheese and cooked on a hot griddle until crispy brown. Mine came with sliced avocado, hominy, plantain, and was topped with two fried eggs. I also enjoyed fresh watermelon juice. This is an affordable restaurant with delicious food and excellent service.

We came in 10 mins before closing and the server was not super happy. He asked that we choose something simple, which we readily agreed. We explained that we won't sit but take the food out. It is a nice place. Food was ok but I can't really rate it out of a plastic box because it doesn't have the same vibe. It wasn't extraordinary. Chicken. We would give it another try if we find ourselves in Otavalo again.

I was really amazed with pretty much everything in this place. We were looking for a vegetarian option and we came across this place, my colleague is the one that got the vegetarian dish, he said it was delicious. The menus are in English and Spanish, the food was really good, the service was fast and if you like plates that don't just taste great but they look great, this is your place to go. It was cheap as well, lunch for 2 was around $35 with drinks and starter dishes.

My family enjoyed many meals at Cafe Pachamama while staying in Otavalo for over a week. The food was delicious, and there were plenty of vegan and vegetarian options. Service was exceptional - hotel and restaurant are a worker-run co-op, incredible!

Really nice atmosphere Call ahead for hours. I arrived half an hour before closing and the staff patiently served me an appetizer, entree and dessert with no sign of being rushed at all. I had the tuna-stuffed avocado (my favorite), the curry chicken pot pie (good, could've used a pinch of salt) and the cookie with ice cream. Also had an excellent pisco sour. They also waited for my taxi to come back which took longer than expected. Such sweet people. Definitely recommended and glad I came here.

It just reopened as a co-op between the American owner and the local employees, and we were their first customers. The ladies were so sweet, and so proud and excited to be serving us as part owners. We loved it so much we came back three times, once for dinner and twice for breakfast. We had the pizza for dinner which was stellar, and their "Pachamama breakfast" (full breakfast with organic coffee, fresh juice, excellent fruit salad, really nice fresh bread and jam, and your choice of eggs, yogurt and granola or oatmeal) both days because it was just so darn good. The ambience and service was great, the crackling fire, fresh flowers on the tables, every detail was done beautifully. We didn't get to hang around at night but they have a nice little bar and cozy sofas by the fire, plus tons of puzzles and games ( Cards Against Humanity, Bananagrams. Etc) that would make for some excellent evening entertainment after a long day exploring the market or the surrounding natural wonders. Highly highly recommend!

This was my second time here. Prices are cheap, and it's got a nice view over the Artisanal Market. Portions are very decent, and both times I ate here I was satisfied with what I got for the price. Both times the place had music blasting, so that can be disturbing if you're there for a chat or meeting. It's a nice place for a couple of beers in the evening. Can't say anything negative about this place (yet).

It is hard to find a quiet place with good athmospere near the Plaza de Los Ponchos a Saturday afternoon, but this gem is worth visiting. Very cordial staff and excellent location.

I had the asparagus soup with lovely fresh bread. It was a very decent size serving and delicious. So nice to find something not deep fried.

The glasses, plates nad cutlery were dirty. My steak was average, chewy but edible, fries were nice and crunchy. The vegetarian dish had nice fried mushrooms but the other vegetables were most likely refrigerated and microwaved, one piece was stone cold.

Overrated, it took 50 min to have two dishes ready. They were out of several menu items. Horrible customer service. There are so many nice restaurants within steps. Don’t waste your tome. Unacceptable!

Ordered the plato typical because I wanted to try local food. The pork was quite tough and dry - I ended up eating only about 1/3. The other items on the plate were fine... nothing special. We were there with a local Ecuadorian who ordered the same thing so I asked him what he thought. He said it was just okay.

We are a late lunch here with our guide. Although were the first to arrive and get seated, 3 other local parties came in and were all waited on first. After patiently waiting over 30 minutes for our order to be taken, it took equally long to have the food arrive. I had a vegetarian entree and my husband had chicken and the guide had a pork dish. Nothing special. Worse part is we all got FOOD POISONING and were very sick for 48 hrs! Never go here to eat.

We had a delicious dinner and then comfortable stay and wonderful- -included --breakfast the next morning. Love the atmosphere and people at this place. Wish we could've stayed longer!

This is, honestly, the best food I've had in all my visits to Otavalo. I can't speak for staying at the hotel, but the restaurant is a real delight. I recommend the bacon wrapped sausages, the camarones anaranjados, and any fresh fruit juice.

A small, traditional hotel in the centre of Otavalo. The rooms are dated and not a 4 star quality. It is also extremely cold in them, as no heating available (we had the rooftop small appartement which comes with a fireplace luckily). But it is a tradional atmosphere, the rooftop terrace is very nice and good quality towels and bedding. The restaurant is very good and the service very friendly. It is a nice base for a few days in Otavalo if one doesn't mind cold rooms and a bit dated.

We stayed 4 nights at Hotel Dona Esther. A thoughtfully and beautifully put together hotel with restaurant. Conveniently situated in the heart of the town. The food in the restaurant was divine. A wonderful menu to choose from and very generous portions. Breakfast was included and again, a pleasure. Beds comfortable and nice hot showers with good pressure. I would highly recommend this unique hotel to anyone staying in Otavalo.

I’ve stayed at this hotel four times over three years. It’s a charming place to stay with an attentive staff, clean rooms, comfy beds, and an excellent restaurant. Breakfast is excellent and includes good coffee. It’s slightly more expensive than other options in Otavalo, however, I keep coming back for the reliable consistency of a good experience. Prior to my fourth stay I booked a room at another hotel because Doña Esther was booked up, but when I found out a room was available I moved here. Excellent location too. I wonder about the negative reviews here without explanation, they appear dubious to me. Google should not allow reviews without narratives, but that’s another story.

Doña Esther is a charming hotel centrally located in Otavalo. The rooftop terrace is a great place for views of the surrounding mountains. While it is not the cheapest option in Otavalo, the prices are fair. The clean, comfortable rooms, incredibly friendly and helpful staff and delicious included breakfast were certainly worth the few extra dollars that you may pay compared to some of the other hotels in the area. If you are staying there, don't miss out on the restaurant for lunch or dinner. The pizzas, as well as chicken and fish dishes that we tried were absolutely delicious! As my husband is Ecuadorian, we travel to Ecuador a lot and the next time we are in Otavalo, we will be staying at Doña Esther!

This quaint hotel has exactly what you'll need for a stay in Otavalo. The location can't be beat, if you're coming to town for the market. The rooms are decorated "on-theme" for the Andes with a small touch of dutch-style (from the owners). I loved the teal blue accents on the interior and the decorative blanket-like wall hangings, plus the many functional and soft blankets on the bed. Our room faced the street so it was a bit noisy on market day (Saturday) but otherwise didn't bother me at all. The rooftop terrace was a great spot to get above all the noise and relax. The breakfasts, included with the room, were filling and healthy. I also recommend having dinner in the hotel restaurant: the pizzas are genuinely very good!
