Indian restaurant
Looking for Asian cuisine in Chippy? Spice Of India offers two options: Thai and Indian. Specifically, the latter choice is recommended. Even on a busy Friday night, it's possible to secure a table without prior reservation. The food is generally good, except for the lamb curry which tends to be quite tough. For appetizers, the selection of Indian snacks and tandoori chicken are highly recommended and delicious.
Great family run restaurant. Very busy, we were lucky to get a table. Flavours were lovely, and the manager gave very accurate descriptions of the various dishes. Good value for money, would come back again.

Friendly service and some of the food was tasty but we all agreed that a few of the dishes were way too salty, as to make them difficult to eat. The staff were apologetic and took our comments seriously which was good. 24 hours after two of our group had food poisoning, can't say for sure if it was from their food.
Russ Bal Lewky — Google review
Food was as nice as ever. Very tasty and reasonably priced. Waiter was lovely but didn't seem to have a clue. He was the only one serving however whilst others were just sitting around. I would recommend just think service needs to be a little sharper

Can’t recommend these guys enough! I’m vegan and my husband loves seafood. Between us we are always so impressed by the food (my husband highly rates the King Prawn Masala) and I like to explore all the different vegetable dishes. Occasionally we test out having an Indian from elsewhere but it never matches the quality and taste of Spice of India.

Fantastic food, very tasty and great service. My wife and i (with our daughter) decided to take a short break for afew days as it was our 11th wedding Anniversary. We love Indian food and we're lucky to find this golden nugget. Highly recommended, next stop Diddly Squat farm 👍

Stunning curry. I had the King Naga chicken curry; wife had the butter chicken; the naan was, according to my wife, the best, freshest she's ever had. I agree with this; also the pilau rice was outstanding. The owner and staff were lovely too. Highly highly recommend, even without the Bailey's to finish!!
Ashley — Google review
I love my Indian food and have tried many places this ranks the bottom of the list for me food doesn't taste correct the recipes are way off small portion size and do not buy the onion bargy flat and dry bin worthy. The nan was plain ordered garlic nan. This place needs a new chef ASAP that knows his recipes and can make decent Indian food that taste like what you ordered not some random sauce.
Michael Sampson — Google review
Avoid this place unless you are happy with poor quality food. Not worth it! All the 5 stars are a lie or are fake. We had a group of 6 of us on a monday evening to get the £13.50 deal. We ordered our food only to wait nearly an hour for our food! To be more confusing we were the only people in the restaurant... Then when we did get our food, which I ordered the butter chicken, it was so sweet! Like they added sugar to the dish. It was not good! It feels like a Indian place where it is far past its prime. Avoid this place unless you are happy with poor quality food.

Want to find some Asian food in Chippy. There are two choices: one is Thai and the other is Indian. I want the latter one this time. This is Friday night. The restaurant is almost full. We are lucky to have a table without any prior reservation. Food is good besides the lamb curry. Too chewy. My recommendation will be the starter, a selection of Indian snacks, and also the tandoori chicken. Both yummy!

Looks can be deceiving, it doesn't look like much from the outside but the staff are lovely although, sometimes you struggle to spot them. Great atmosphere though and enjoyable food!

Amazing people, delicious food and lovely atmosphere. All of us enjoyed our curries and rice, especially I liked my mushroom rice very much. I will definitely come here again. Recommended 👌

Ordered takeaway lamb masala. Got a very sickly sweet masala even though I was informed that masala was supposed to be sour and sweet (maybe a bit spicy), this was just unbelievably sweet. They were kind for accommodating my takeaway order at 10:30 though but it still doesn't excuse the wrong taste of the dish + dry meat even though it was slathered w sauce. Also somehow the masala is incredibly vibrant fake red? Just feels like coloring since I'm not tasting a lot of the spices that should be there. Rice was ok atleast. Dinner was spoiled to say the least and I could not eat beyond a few bites.
Danielle — Google review
Just ordered take a ways from this place. Worst Indian meal we have ever had. Something has changed as we had a lovely meal from this place about 2 years ago. All the food was sickly sweet and consistency was the same. The Korma and Butter Chicken tasted the identical and the Chicken Masala was a bright ‘fake’ red colour. Very disappointing. Update: Spoke with the owner who was apologetic and offered us some money back. Apparently it wasn’t the regular chef working that night. Moved them up to a 2 star for the professional way they handled the situation.

Breakfast restaurant
Bitter & Twisted is a laid-back restaurant and bar located in the center of town, offering a diverse menu that caters to both vegans and meat/fish eaters. The establishment serves classic pub fare such as burgers and sandwiches, along with a good selection of local beers, gins, cocktails, and other favorites. Dogs are welcome in the bar area.
Very good smoked haddock linguine. The steak was also good, but just comes with (generous amount of) chips - some mushrooms and grilled tomato would be nice for the price - menu option of rocket salad was declined (does anyone really like rocket??) The daily cocktail offer for £5 is great value.

Friendly staff and good quality food. Would give 6 stars if I could!
Hannah Watson — Google review
I was greeted pleasantly and showed to the terrace outside overlooking the market and we planned to have lunch. Looked at the menu and for a burger alone £20-25. And it did not feel like a high end restaurant (where you might expect these high prices) more like standard pub grub. After we ordered drinks, I just got the vibe that it wasn’t going to be a great meal - so we decided to just have drinks and find somewhere else nearby for food. Our drinks were flat, but we weren’t really too bothered until we saw the bill. £10 for 2 soft drinks. I still cannot believe that it can cost £5 for a coke!
Rachel Moore — Google review
Good place for a family brunch, it's a bit expensive than usual however the service was fantastic and they also had a good selection of beer on tap. The staff managed to sort out a table for 11 literally within 20mins and the food came out very quickly, but from the looks of it they seemed to have limited seating so best to call and book in advance. They have parking availability nearby that has a two hour limit but it was quite small. There are other parking spots available nearby too. This restaurant is dog friendly. I found the Sunday roast (turkey) was mediocre, it was probably down to my own expectations as it's the first time I've ate a roast but other people in my group gave good feedback. The sausage and mash was good, the steak also looked really good and their burgers are also quite chunky and flavourful. I would come back here to try out different burger options.

Stopped here for a drink on the way to the cinema. The manager don’t know his name tall blonde guy was so accommodating very friendly and remarkable service after the cinema we wanted a kebab :-) and I asked him if he could give me £20 cash on my card and he did this guy is a star totally with it. Good luck to him go here for a drink or food it’s brilliant

Stayed in Cotswold over NYE. Struggled to find somewhere to have dinner, luckily I was able to book in at Bitter & Twisted. The food menu prices are very high… however, the meal was really tasty. I had the salmon and my partner had the Lamb Souvlaki. We both really enjoyed the meals. It was NYE so we stayed a while, the staff was welcoming and attentive - table service was ideal, as I’m pregnant so it would have been too crowded to constantly order at the bar. The music was good, and the atmosphere was lively! It was a lovely place to spend our NYE. I’ll definitely visit again when I am able to indulge in some cocktails. ☺️

Unexpected, and life saver dinner! We were part of an Audax, one of those British cycling challenges across the country, and after 200kms under the rain and cold, we ended up in Chipping Norton, when the night caught us. Looking for somewhere warm and where we could find some hot food, we knock at the door of Bitter & Twisted. Despite our appearance and our 4 bikes, the manager was amazingly welcoming and pleased us to enter and park our bikes on the terrace. They were already full with a lot of reservations, but we started to order few drinks and could stay in the corridor by the terrace. But then, the lovely staff came to us and said that a table could be available. We got the table, and 4 different but delicious burgers, and I loved that they had Beavertown beer on tap. We had a great break, good laughs, and thanks to this wonderful place we could cycle back to Oxford. We will remain thankful to this young manager and his team. This is what I call Hospitality.

Called in for a quick pint whilst waiting to visit diddly squat farm. Prices were more expensive than we are use to but given where it's located I guess that's expected. Great staff and very welcoming we would definitely call here again.

Had a late breakfast in Bitter & Twisted this morning. Full English - fried eggs, toast, beans, hash browns, cherry tomatoes (lovely touch), mushrooms (beautifully cooked), sausage, bacon, black pudding - and the whole plate was superb. Particularly noteworthy were the sausages, bacon and especially the black pudding, all of which, in some places, can be a bit variable when you go out for breakfast. But not here. Exceptional, all of them. Chef obviously cares to source good ingredients, and it shows. Am now stuffed. Will be returning. Thank you, Chef.

Pre booked online for a table in the bar as went went in with our dog Service was great by all, everyone was friendly Food was fanatic We ordered the garlic bread, one half with cheese, the cheese burger with bacon and also the Boss burger which had pulled pork, bacon and cheese Burgers are cooked medium unless you request anything else The boss burger is easily in the top 3 burgers I've ever had Plenty of chips with the order to Auto service charge added to the bill of 10% Overall we were very happy with the service and food and would return again for sure

By far the best food I've had in a very long while! Well done to the chef! We booked for 7pm on Saturday and I'm glad we did as many were turned away. We were shown to our table and given the cocktail and food menu. Staff were all polite and attentive. We had 4 cocktails in total and all were fabulous. The starter was, in my opinion, one of the tastiest I've ever had. I chose smoked cheddar mac and cheese bites with a barbecue dip and they were delicious! My daughter had doughballs which were equally tasty. I then had the smoked salmon, lemon and spinach risotto and my daughter had the salmon and chorizo with mashed potato and peas. Both were extremely good. Finally my daughter had the sticky toffee pudding which she said was one of the best and was eaten all too quickly and we forgot to take the photo! Our bill was a little high but not unexpected. I wouldn't be eating out and spending this much on a regular basis but we were having a mother and daughter weekend away and it was well worth it. I cannot fault the service or the food and would certainly eat here again. I thoroughly recommend Bitter & Twisted! Well done to you all.

We had the Christmas menu, just the mains. It was quite expensive and, honestly, the food was disappointing. The waitress admitted the potatoes were cooked in the morning and reheated so were tough, dry and horrible! The meat was overcooked and very dry and tasteless. The service was lovely and top rate and the atmosphere was good so go for a drink and a chat but not sure about the food!
Mayla Rob — Google review
Service a bit slow to very slow in a none busy time of day. Food, expensive tasteless small portions, don’t bother eat elsewhere. Sat eating listening to Essex guys at the bar bragging about their time in different prisons was the highlight of this place.

Nice central location, outside seating available with view of the town square. Lots of choice on the menu with a lot of attention for vegan and vegetarian options. Servings are large and food taste and quality is good. Prices at the usual Cotswolds levels. Staff is friendly and service on a busy Saturday afternoon was a bit slow.

The food here is consistently amazing. Beautifully cooked with the real skill of balancing flavours perfectly. Great wine list. Service is flawless. Relaxed but attentive without going too far in either direction. In all, a wonderful place that may well be the best place to eat for miles around and that's with a lot of good places in the area.

My husband enjoyed dinner here. We had a great time in the cozy, warm restaurant. The food was incredible. Some of the best we enjoyed in the Cotswolds. We enjoyed the pork dish, the lamb, strawberry sundae dessert, and gooseberry dessert. Such a great find! So glad we opted to go here rather than the more “famous” fine dining restaurant a few miles away.

The Chequers in Cotswolds is a charming gastropub that offers a rustic yet chic ambiance with scrubbed-wood tables and vintage memorabilia. It is known for its selection of craft beers and delicious gastro-fare. The menu boasts mouthwatering dishes such as cheddar souffle, pea risotto, fish & chips, and sticky toffee pudding. Patrons rave about the exceptional quality of the food, considering it some of the best they've had during their trip.
This has been one of my favourite locals for a few years now, especially after a muddy dog walk. Great staff, food and drinks. I can’t recommend enough.

Really nice Sunday Lunch. Scotch Egg starter highly rated by the youngster who commented positively on the flavourful egg (he said prob organic and free range?!). Massive portion for buttermilk chicken burger, whilst the roasts were good. separate veg trimmings on side. Wife's roast pork melt in mouth. crackling proper hard a bit chewy. could not fit in dessert

Lovely pub a stones throw from Daylesford and Diddly Squat. Vaulted ceiling’s, stone flag floors, medieval fixtures and antiques on the walls make up the stunning dining room. But if you want cosy, the pub section at the front delivers. The food and service were brilliant, couldn’t fault either. Can highly recommend the soufflé which sits a bubble bath of cheese. Really nice drinks as well, especially for non-alcoholic options. I was driving so had the Grenadine Sour which was delicious. Hawkstone on tap too which is awesome.

One I’ve the best restaurants I’ve been too! My boyfriend and I stopped over here for a quick bite to eat. The interior was beautiful, lovely lit candles inside and fantastic staff. We were seated immediately and were served super quickly. I had a cheese soufflé & calamari for a quick snack… the cheese soufflé was the best I’ve ever had! I highly recommend booking this place, it was the perfect place to start off our trip to the Cotswolds. Thank you!

While staying at a local cottage, we popped in with friends on the Saturday, and popped back on the Monday too, it was so nice. The food is beautiful, and the front of house staff are attentive and well informed about the menu, often over looked in the coffee quality which for me, here, was really good and a nice finish to the meal. Totally loved the Padron peppers to.... We will be back!!

Really fantastic meal here. Got the cheddar soufflé, pea risotto, fish & chips, and sticky toffee pudding. Each dish was better than the last, and was some of the best food we had on our trip. Sticky toffee pudding was gone in probably under a minute even though we were stuffed when it came out -it was that good. I will note that the service took a while. We were there for about 2.5-3 hours despite trying to have a speedier meal. Garden was absolutely beautiful just before sunset.
Ben Incera — Google review
Absolute amazing place, the food was out of this world and the staff were just awesome, they knew everything about the restaurant from the history to the food, they were the perfect team. You will certainly enjoy your visit here. It's worth a ten * rating that's for sure.

We have been to The Chequers twice now whilst visiting the Cotswolds. The first time was exceptional and we couldn't wait to go back. Unfortunately, this time we found the service to be very slow even though it wasn't very busy on a Wednesday and the food was okay, but nothing to shout home about. I had the padron peppers as a side and the ricotta gnudi main. The padron peppers were nice, but a little bitter probably from the grill. I think these would be so much better if they came with an aioli sauce or something similar. The gnudi was a pleasant surprise, very light and airy and paired well with the swiss chard and pea puree. As a vegetarian, there was an okay choice of mains with a salad, gnudi and gnocchi, but think it would be great if they offered something a little bit different especially considering how big the menu actually is.

Great food and beer and excellent service. There’s great ambience too. The portion sizes are generous. We loved coming here!
Rachel Barlow — Google review
One of the worst pub meals ever! Serving staff are basically untrained teenagers who have no real interest, the food was slow to come out (more than 1/2 hour for a starter) and the main dish was an inedible tiny portion of reheated ox cheek for £21!! Utterly ridiculous. Not to mention the fact that the bar had very little stock and the menu had all of the popular items out of stock! Genuinely will never return to this beautiful looking pub until the management change. The current licensee’s really don’t seem to care, which is sacrilege.,
Jeff Lewis — Google review
A quaint little no-frills pub. We stopped here for dinner and both had burgers. The chicken burger was fine, but nothing exceptional. The brisket burger was nice, but didn’t come with fries so had to get a side which cost £6, which seems far too much to charge for such a thing. The desserts we had were both nice. Disappointing that they don’t let dogs in the dining room and only in the bar area, so had to sit there with our pooch.
Matt R — Google review
Fitted us in even when they were full. Food was 10/10, Beef Cheeks possibly the best meal I’ve ever had. Utterly delicious

Awesome pub. Glorious staff who are wonderfully welcoming and management are beautifully respectful to their staff too. Everything is perfect. One of my fav places.

What a fantastic little pub/restaurant. Very friendly staff incredible coffee and probably the best fish and chips I've ever had. Homemade tartare sauce and mushy peas compliment it very well. Crunchy batter, fresh fish and triple cooked chips. The wife had a halloumi burger which she said was delicious. Well done to everyone that works there, you provide a great experience. 10/10.

Whistlers Restaurant is a relaxed and welcoming establishment that offers an inviting bar area and cozy dining space, serving traditional British cuisine. The venue has received positive feedback for its delectable dishes and attentive service. Unfortunately, due to time constraints, the reviewer expresses regret at not being able to enjoy another meal before leaving for Australia. The restaurant also receives praise for its professionalism and warm atmosphere.
What a wonderful find this restaurant was. Fabulous food and wonderful service. My only regret is I won’t have time to return for another dinner before returning to Australia. Well done guys for a truly wonderful experience.👍

I had the best pork belly dish I have EVER had last night, at Whistler’s. And I have had a few! The combination of AMAZING pork belly, amazing potato creations and the purple sprouting broccoli and buttery, sauce and puréed veg, honestly .. out of this world and nothing has topped this 🥰. On top of that , the bread and olives were a stunning surprise, all homemade and warm, a clever brown and white mixed mini loaf, crispy on the crust and light and fluffy inside, paired with balsamic butter.. something I have never had but , trust me, it was an absolute treat! The staff are outstanding too. 10/10 for the best place to eat in Chipping Norton. Thank you, I’m planning my next visit ♥️

Very nice and professional service. Tomato soup home made very tasty, my wife and I ordered a steak and it looked beautiful and tasted delicious. Comfortable and friendly atmosphere. I highly recommend this restaurant.

A fantastic experience. Wonderful food, atmosphere & service. My partner & I had the tasting menu at Whistlers as a treat to celebrate a special occasion and every course was excellent, the range of flavours complementing each other on every dish. Our particular favourites were the monkfish tail with celeriac mash and apple, and the fillet steak. One thing to note is that the tasting menu will change regularly depending on the availability of fresh ingredients - this didn't bother us as we were open to trying new things but if you're keen to confirm what will be on the menu I'd recommend calling on the day. The service was equally great - we were made to feel very welcome and all staff were friendly and talkative. This really is a hidden gem and somewhere we will be sure to return to. If you're staying in Chipping Norton then add this to your list, you won't be disappointed.

My partner and I visited Whistlers over the weekend for dinner – what can we say, simply stunning. The menu is on another level with delicious food, extremely well executed by Nathan. The scallop and fish cake starters were excellent, as was the cod fillet main; it literally just fell apart. The pesto risotto was a lovely addition and really brought out the flavours of the fish. The bread was on another level, warm and soft (pictures below). There is an extensive wine menu, we enjoyed a couple of bottles of New Zealand white - needless to say Kerry was extremely informative (and welcoming), as was Hannah and Jacob (waiting staff) who couldn’t do enough. They are a credit to Whistlers. As the evening progressed we could see it was popular with the vast numbers arriving, which again illustrates the fantastic food and service. We will be back that's for sure, make sure you give it a try if in Chippy or nearby. You won’t be disappointed!

Booked a table for two for Whistlers after walking past when we visited Chipping Norton last week. Went on Saturday night and it was nearly full so a lovely atmosphere. The waitress was lovely, very attentive without being overbearing and the owners brother was visiting from Australia and working that night - he was great ! The menu was fantastic - they do a set menu, a tasting menu or a la carte- which was what we had. A lot of the food was Gluten free which I need so it was perfect ! The food was outstanding - best meal we had in the week we stayed in Oxford. I had the scallop, then the John Dory and then the strawberry and raspberry terrine - divine ! A lovely restaurant with lovely staff and amazing food - highly recommended! No photos of food I’m afraid - it was so good I forgot 🙈
