La Paloma

La Paloma is a seaside town on Uruguay’s southeast coast, east of Montevideo. Its slim, white Lighthouse of Cabo Santa Maria overlooks the Atlantic, near traditional fishermen’s cottages. Nearby, Bahía Chica and Bahía Grande are sandy bays with calm waters. The Centro Cultural La Paloma hosts cultural events. West are Los Botes beach, with strong surf, and Laguna de Rocha, a wetland reserve with migratory birds.

Lighthouses
I have been visiting El Faro del Cabo Santa Maria since I was young. Only children aged 8 and above are allowed to enter. The ascent to the lighthouse is relatively easy compared to other lighthouses, though those with claustrophobia may find the initial steps uncomfortable. However, the stairs become more spacious afterwards. From the balcony at the top, visitors can enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of La Paloma in all directions, accompanied by strong gusts of wind.
If you are in the area, visiting and climbing the lighthouse is well worth it on a nice day. The views are amazing. Around sunset if it is open, would be the best.
Packtraverller — Google review
Beautiful view of La Paloma. Picture and information on the ground floor is interesting as well. If you have the ability wait for a day when the wind isn't that strong.
Paul Stephens — Google review
I've been visiting this place since i was a kid. Only 8yo+ allowed. The way up is as easy as it gets for a lighthouse. If you're claustrophobic the initial steps may bother you, but after those, the stairs are very spacious. Up there in the balcony there's a great 360 view, and super windy.

Opened till sunset, "puesta del sol" which is interpreted by the 'boss' there as "kick out all tourists 20 minutes before sunset, i want to go home".. The younger employee wanted to let us up but was not allowed to. Other tourists that were already upstairs were called down 15 min before sunset. All were mad about this bulls*it... Lighthouse is nice from outside.

Beautiful view of the whole surrounding for less then 1$ a person, 30.pesos. climbing is a bit exhausting if someone not in shape. Another thing need to mention is the the distance between the rail shelves is too wide, and my slim daughter could easy slip between. Other then that, its a great experience.

Lo de Edinson is a restaurant in La Paloma that serves a delicious paella with an abundance of fish. The portions are generous, reminiscent of the large servings typically found in American restaurants. The service is friendly and efficient, which is not always the case in this area. It has received high praise from locals and even taxi drivers who have recommended it to others. The prices are reasonable, and the food is of great quality. Diners particularly enjoyed the milanesa and vegetable salad options.
I had the paella which had lots of fish. It was a huge serving- reminding me of the large portions of restaurants in USA. The service was friendly and fast. And unlike many restaurants here in La Paloma, it was open when Google Maps said it would be open. You should eat here!!

Upon arrival at La Folie, patrons may find themselves waiting in a queue. Engaging conversations with the owner and fellow guests enhance this initial encounter. To alleviate any prolonged waiting time, the considerate owner improvises a table arrangement using an unassigned side table. This thoughtful gesture reflects the kind-hearted nature of the establishment's personnel.
Very cool place in La Paloma. The food is amazing and the staff is super warm. They have indoor seating and a quite a bit of space outside too. The ambience is also great, so make sure to give it a go.

Arrecife, a highly recommended restaurant in Uruguay, is known for its generous portions and excellent grill. It is a haven for meat lovers who can indulge in their top recommendation, the "Bife Ancho," cooked to medium perfection ("al punto"). Pairing it with a glass of Tanat is an ideal choice. However, the menu offers much more than just steak, ensuring there's something for everyone. The restaurant also provides fast delivery and a welcoming atmosphere.
Great portions, good service and prices.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Uruguay, good portions and great grill! For all those meat lovers, like myself, I highly recommend the "Bife Ancho" and order the doneness "al punto" which means something similar to medium. A glass of Tanat is the perfect pairing. The rest of the menu is also very good so you can't go wrong if you visit this place.

I enjoyed my lunch outdoors. I had a chivito- my first ever! It was delicious and the service was fast - just 3 or 4 minutes from my order to the table! You should try this place. But it is on the expensive side… and don’t forget about the 22% tax.

Very good place, fast delivered and welcoming surrounding. We asked for lenguado and smashed potatoes, with rabas as appetizer. The lenguado and rabas were great. The smashed potatoes was dry and without butter and milk, I would like to have more love in that part of my plate. 8/10

The people that work there are wonderful so is the atmosphere, but the food was not good. We ordered an Asado, the meat consistency was like hard rubber and also a vegetarian/ vegan dish that had no taste and the tomato sauce appeared to be out of a can.
