Restaurant
The Finnygook Inn, a traditional establishment with panoramic views of the valley, offers locally sourced food and a variety of beers. They also provide bed and breakfast accommodations. Recently, I had the pleasure of booking a birthday dinner at their restaurant. The inn is efficiently managed by an attentive and amiable staff. Upon arrival, we found the restaurant bustling with activity but were graciously directed to the bar while waiting for our table.
Food and service were amazing. Best cod fish I have had, and really knowledgeable and helpful about my allergy. Also great kids food. Loved the wood fire, fairy lights and old books too. Thoroughly recommend!

Really good Sunday roast. The vegetarian option was amongst the best I've had. If I'm being picky, the roast potatoes were a little hard rather than fluffy inside. Didn't detract too much, still mostly excellent.

The best Sunday lunch we've had in a long time! Absolutely faultless. Perfect portion size, everything cooked to near perfect. We had beef and pork both were fabulous we will definitely be back!

Beautiful place, really friendly staff and excellent food. Huge portions and great value for money. Only complaint, car park is a bit small and tight, but a small price to pay for the excellent food!! Will definitely be back.

We had a one night stay walking the coast path. As there was firing on the range this was just right. Lovely hosts and our rooms view was brilliant. The food was amazing what more can you ask for. Thank you

Booked in at the restaurant for a birthday dinner. What a great place run by helpful and friendly staff. We arrived to find the restaurant busy and decided to wait at the bar for our table. The staff were extremely helpful and apologetic for the delay caused by a party that had arrived late and we're still enjoying their evening. As we were quite happy to wait the staff relaxed and made our short wait very pleasant. The food was freshly cooked and very tasty. The menu has a good selection of dishes to cater for all preferences. In all a fabulous evening and definitely a place we will be coming back to.

Great food, very friendly and attentive staff. We had fish and chips and the steak. Cooked to perfection and very tasty. Generous portions too! Best to book if possible, we managed to squeeze in outside at short notice :)

Went for a roast here with my family. Ordered a gluten free roast as I'm gluten intolerant. Food came out, ate half of my meal only to have the waitress snatch my food away. She had given a meal that wasn't gluten free! Very apologetic, but I spent the rest of the day and all through the night with stomach pains and bloating. Not fun.

The staff here are so polite and so helpful. The food is to die for it is all fresh and the flavours are amazing I would recommend the fish pie it was so fresh and so flavoursome. The restaurant is very clean and tidy. The atmosphere is brilliant. You need to eat here when in finnygook you will not regret it. Its cosy and stunning views aswell.

We had a lovely evening meal at Finnygook. Our table wasn't ready on time, due to a previous group running late, but the staff were all very polite & apologetic. When a table became free, we were offered to go & sit at our convenience, and had a table next to the picture window, with a panoramic view out onto the estuary. The food & drink were delicious, and service friendly & not rushed at any time. We've booked a return visit already, and are looking forward to it!

Wow how can I describe this establishment, friendly personal service, good range of drinks and the food.... wow the food every meal we saw made my mouth salivate! The fish pie had so much fish!! For desert I had pavlova with almond ice cream and berrys. 6 adults mains and desserts for under £145! I'd rate higher if possible

Love this place and can't stay away whenever I am in the area. Homely vibes with lovely open fire to welcome you and then your hit by the gorgeous smells from the kitchen. Real ale is great with plenty to choose from and the food is perfect. Never had a bad meal and don't expect to in the future. These guys have it sorted. Loved it, all of it lol oh and it's dog friendly too if you have one. Ps portion size is perfect. So don't expect to have a 3 course meal as your run out of room.

I went to The Carew Arms and had a delightful experience. I tried their steak and ale pie as well as their steak and kidney pie, both of which were the most delicious pies I've ever tasted. These homemade delights are served at this dog-friendly pub with friendly and helpful staff. If I find myself in the area again, I will definitely make a return visit to this hidden gem. On another occasion, I visited for lunch and enjoyed a bright atmosphere.
Great food ! Lovely friendly lady behind the bar, good quality pub food. You can sit outside in the beer garden and eat too. This place saved our skin when the pub up the road had stopped serving food at 2pm

We went with friends had 3 course lunch, it was absolutely fabulous! Had the tomato & basil soup starter, pork and stuffing pie w/ chips which were some of the best I've had. My partner had pork belly bites as starter and chili w/ rice main...perfect portions and finished with a delicious dessert of sticky toffee pudding with a sauce that was decadent and a chocolate mousse w/ cherries perfect ending to a delicious meal! Definitely would go back Seating was extremely comfortable and we sat by log burner, as it was cold. If you haven't been I highly recommend. Service was great and staff very kind! : )

Popped in and the Carew Arms for lunch. It was lovely and bright. We ordered off the specials board and had the 'Piggy Platter'. The service was great and the food was delicious, the pork was gorgeous and the vegetables tasted amazing and fresh.

Cafe
Breakfast restaurant
The Cliff Top Café is a charming and tranquil establishment, boasting breathtaking panoramic views. Customers rave about the freshly made baguettes that are generously filled and reasonably priced. The assortment of salads is also highly recommended. This cafe has quickly become a favorite among visitors. Its peaceful atmosphere adds to the overall enjoyment of dining there. The cafe staff is friendly and accommodating, making it an ideal place for families with young children.
A lovely café with delicious food and in an amazing spot. We visited the cliff top café on what happened to be the first sunny morning in some time. The views were lovely and it was very cosy inside. I had been before but not for some time and it wasn't some where I necessarily think of but someone else recommended it and we were very glad they did. I remember I had been a few times the other year to grab a takeaway breakfast baguette, as I was working along the cliffs, and that was lovely. The baguettes were full of tasty breakfast fillings and in delicious soft buttery baguettes. So I was looking forward to visiting again. When we arrived and saw the menu we were very excited. We ordered the breakfast stack pancakes that came with three pancakes, maple syrup, bacon, eggs and a hashbrown. We also had a milkshake each. It was all really delicious. The pancakes were light and fluffy, the bacon and hashbrown done perfectly crispy. The eggs were lovely and runny and it was all brought together by the maple syrup. I would definitely recommend a visit here anytime and I suspect it may become a favourite spot. Followed by a walk along the beach of course or perhaps after being on the beach and working up an appetite walking back up the cliff.

My recent visit to this café was an absolute delight from start to finish. As a hot chocolate aficionado, I'm always on the lookout for exceptional brews, and I must say, the hot chocolate here surpassed all my expectations. It was creamy, rich, and undoubtedly one of the best I've ever tasted. What truly sets this café apart is its commitment to catering to diverse dietary preferences. Being a vegetarian myself, I was thrilled to find a range of options available to suit my needs. And for my vegan friends, there were plenty of choices too, ensuring that everyone could indulge in their favorite treats. But what truly stole my heart was the welcoming atmosphere and the kindness of the staff and members of the café. From the moment I stepped in, I was greeted with warm smiles and genuine hospitality. It felt like visiting old friends rather than just another café. The surroundings added to the charm of the experience. With picturesque nature all around, it felt like a serene retreat away from the hustle and bustle of the city. And to top it all off, the café is pet-friendly! Being able to enjoy my hot chocolate while watching furry friend made the experience even more special. In conclusion, my visit to this café was nothing short of magical. Delicious hot chocolate, welcoming staff, and a pet-friendly environment - what more could one ask for? I wholeheartedly recommend this café to anyone looking for a cozy haven to unwind and indulge in their favorite treats.

We just enjoyed a fabulous meal (before the power cut!) here! I had the mushroom and apple stroganoff and it tasted amazing! We make sure we go for lunch at the Wilcove Inn at least a couple times a year and the food is always good and much needed after walking here from Plymouth, a well deserved treat! The staff are lovely too, so friendly and welcoming 😊

We had Sunday lunch here and it was delicious, I had the apricot and goats cheese nut roast which was amazing, someone else had the lamb, mint, pea and asparagus pie and the others had the brisket roast. None of us regretted getting what we ordered, the portions were very generous and they cater well to gf and veggie/vegan. Lovely atmosphere and very kind staff. Dogs allowed too which was great. Pleasantly surprised. Had a drink outside and enjoyed looking across the river. Went for Sunday lunch and it was well cooked and tasty. I wish I'd had the children's portion of chicken dinner as my sister did. I had the pork and it was big. Pork, apple sauce, cauliflower cheese, roast potatoes, broccoli, red cabbage. My husband had the veg curry and was impressed. The raspberry chocolate cheesecake went down well too, as did apple crumble and custard. Good staff, nice atmosphere, and our favourite Picpoul wine.

We stayed at the Wilcove Inn for our sons passing out parade from HMS Raleigh (5 mins away). The stay was excellent the room was cosy, the staff couldn't do enough for us, including putting an extra bed in our room at very little extra cost. We eat at the Inn both nights of our stay as the food was excellent both price and quality and breakfast was lovely. I'd like to say a massive thank you to Gemma and the team can't wait to return in July. Thank you.

The host made this an excellent stay. Very helpful and friendly and when I left my suit in the wardrobe after a wedding she posted it up to me! The rooms were very clean and tidy. Great shower. Great breakfast in the morning. We visited the area for a wedding ns had an excellent stay

What a wonderful wonderful hotel and a night away! All round a lovely experience and certainly the most warming and welcoming hosts we have ever had the pleasure of staying with. The hotel is a beautiful historic building down a long winding drive in 'the middle of knowwhere' yet very easy to find. We arrived at the hotel in total peace and quiet, only some sheep grazing and beautiful views. The first welcome we had was by the hoteliers son, who was warm and welcoming and showed us to our room. The room was just right, nice comfy bed, beautiful views and all the amenities you need for an overnight stay (tea, coffee, TV, towels etc). We found out we were the only guests staying in the hotel this night and to pop down when we fancied dinner, and they would open up the bar for us. When we went down, we were welcomed by the wonderful Fiona who, even though it was late and the only people there opened the bar and made us some hot stacks (wedges and garlic bread) and we ended up chatting into the middle of the night like we had all known each other for a lifetime! Very reasonably priced food and drink, and I look forward to sampling full meals on our next visit! In the morning, we went down for breakfast to be greeted with a full continental array (again even though we were the only guests) and the same warm smiling welcome we had the night before! The cooked breakfast was perfect, with thick cuts of smoked bacon, fresh sausages, and all the trimmings! An amazing relaxing stay. We thank you all so much and can not wait to return!

More like a b&b . Evening meal menu was akin to a snack bar. Bar didn't open, but you could get a drink with your meal It's too far away to go to a pub for a real meal With the bar not open it was an early night, we took to eating at lunch time and getting a sandwich from Sainsburys. Would not go back

The best hotel stay! Stayed here for work, my room (6) was beautiful, the location was lovely and quiet and staff are amazing! The breakfast we had cooked for us was 10/10 as well. I will definitely be returning! Staff reopened the bar for us after closing and made us feel so welcome and relaxed! :)

Staff are superb, rooms are large and beds are comfy. Beach is within walking distance. I would definitely stay here again and recommend to friends. The service is second to none. Breakfast isn't usually served until 7 and I had to leave at 6. The host went out of her way and ensured my breakfast was ready to take away! 10/10 all around

Stayed for 2 nights as a family of 4. Such a shame I couldn’t honestly give this a 4 star as I did like this establishment so any negative parts of this review was purely based on the room we stayed in. We had the family room with en-suite bath (room 12) which was part of the external barn conversion building. Let’s start with good Lovely looking building full of character and located very conveniently, easy to find with absolutely stunning views. Polite and well mannered staff and for me the highlight was the lady owner who was chirpy with a great sense of humour whom you can talk to all day and seems to be the heart and soul of this family run business who carried it all. Sadly onto the bad… Room 12 looks like it could use a bit of a refurb/update. Single beds on 2nd floor was so creaky/squeaky that the slightest move leads to very loud squeak noise. It’s not as insulated on the 2nd floor so on cold mornings, you do feel that coldness and dampness in the air. Despite there being a bathtub, there was no hot water from the taps and we could only use the shower component which had a hot water on demand system and not thermostat controlled so yes we get slightly above warm water for a shower but definitely can’t have a soak in the bathtub. Wi-Fi was a little hit and miss depending on which part of the building you are in. Overall, I think the 3 stars is fair review, slightly let down by the room we stayed in (can’t speak for the rooms in the main building).

Great breakfast, clean rooms & bedding, lovely friendly host. She opened the bar for us when we arrived at 10pm Friday so we could have a drink & when we had to leave early in the morning so would miss breakfast she made us sandwiches for the car journey. Great service, would recommend.

If you've ever fancied stepping into a scene reminiscent of a macabre mystery novel, then The Lascawn awaits your visit. After a long day's walk and an unremarkable luncheon at a nearby pub, we approached our evening's accommodations with anticipation. However, upon our arrival, the house was bathed in an eerie darkness, appearing as if it might have closed its doors for the season. Our attempt to seek assistance led us around the property to a neighboring house, where the chime of a bell was promptly answered by a young gentleman – polite, albeit slightly unsettling in his demeanor. Leading us back to the inn, we noticed an unnerving hush and darkened rooms, reminiscent of tales where shadows hide secrets. When inquired about the possibility of evening sustenance or perhaps a comforting drink, he seemed uncertain, mentioning they would only serve dinner upon prior reservations. No comfort, no refreshments, a rather odd choice for a B and B. Our room, although neat, was rather cramped, housing a diminutive double bed that seemed unsuited to a restful night. When we proposed an upgrade – even offering to pay a surplus – our request was met with hesitation. The young man mentioned consulting his mother, but it was his brother who appeared to deliver the final verdict. Despite the evident availability of more spacious chambers and us being the sole guests, we were firmly denied a change of rooms. The atmosphere, combined with the peculiarity of the situation – being the only souls in a silent, dark inn at 4 pm – prompted a hasty decision on our part. We summoned a cab and made a swift exit. There was an unshakable, uncanny aura about the place. A word to the wise: Think twice before you decide to book at The Lascawn. It might be a chapter best left unread.

What a lovely stay we have just had, the setting is absolutely beautiful. Rooms clean and an amazing breakfast. Took our baby dog and he even had a sausage cooked for him with treats as soon as we arrived. So often hotels say dog friendly but not aloud he there and anywhere, but o my goodness he was more welcome than us lol. Cannot wait to go back.
