Yarmouth

Yarmouth is a town, port and civil parish in the west of the Isle of Wight, off the south coast of England. The town is named for its location at the mouth of the small Western Yar river. The town grew near the river crossing, originally a ferry, which was replaced with a road bridge in 1863. Wikipedia.

Italian restaurant
Salty's Bar & Restaurant is an unconventional establishment that offers freshly caught fish in a relaxed atmosphere, situated above a vibrant bar. For a more diverse culinary experience, one can venture to the renowned New Inn in Shalfleet, which specializes in seafood delicacies like crab and lobster. Alternatively, The Red Lion in Freshwater provides traditional pub fare with a pleasant outdoor space and an assortment of beers.
Great restaurant. Food is delicious and the waitress are really lovely. Highly recommended! Also, the decoration is stunning. A plus: They also have live music

This was our first visit to Salty's in it's new incarnation as pizzeria, pasta and bar. It was excllent and a welcome addition to Yarmouth. It has been taken over by the team from The Hut at Colwell Bay. Completely different from The Hut but the same level of quality and professionalism. We had the calamari, a Diavola pizza and the Arrabiata pasta. Coincidentally we were just back from 10 days in Naples/Ischia/Amalfi. The calamari was better than anything we had there. Proper squid pieces na incredibly light tempura style batter. Outstanding. The pizza could have held it's head high anywhere in Naples and the Arrabiata was delightful with a perfectly restrained amount of sauce. Oh and an excellent green salad. Great work.

Destination food & drink, lovely, friendly & welcoming...Tonight we visited the downstairs bar and enjoyed a selection of small plates. Special mention to squid ink crackers with taramasalata, anchovy fritters, lomo pork and haddock carpaccio...oh, and the seasoned fries! Also visited upstairs in the past few months, lovely dinners and fun in the Live Music Lounge
Anne Paterson — Google review
the food is delicious, although we waited for our starter for over 20 minutes but it was deducted from the bill, that's what I call professionalism. I recommend this place

The restaurant has been redecorated with new owners which looks lovely. The service from the staff was excellent. However the food and cocktails were not 5 star and could do with some improvement. Food was overall was too salty and quite expensive, charging similar to other restaurants in the area that produce better dishes. Cocktails were mediocre. I probably wouldn't revisit in all honesty as it's not as expected. I think for us the food and cocktails let us down. The dishes in its previous life were much better and had the wow factor. I felt 3 star was too low and 4 to high. Hopefully you take the feedback inboard and make some changes. The staff however were excellent and a nice touch with the live music upstairs.

We spent the evening here on Saturday 22/7/23 whilst on our honeymoon 💕. Amazing seafood restaurant the ambience in the restaurant is lovely. The food was outstanding and service was very friendly, we then went down and burnt off our meal singing and dancing to the live music in the bar, amazing atmosphere! The taxi service is absolutely fantastic! If you book a table for food Brad will collect you and drop you back afterwards! Overall outstanding and we will definitely be back when we are next over. Thank you all for making our evening exceptional xx

We visited for a lunch in the beautiful upstairs dining room. The staff were very friendly and polite and their attention to detail was fantastic. We had the fish of the day which was monkfish, a very generous portion cooked on the bone. It was a beautiful piece of fish cooked to perfection and served with broccoli and buttered potatoes. Our starters were superb and the whitebait was crispy and delicious as was a beautifully crafted crab salad with charred grapefruit. The crowning glory was the dessert of jelly with cucumber sorbet, just the most perfect dessert which felt like eating a Pimms. One of the cleverest desserts I’ve seen in a long time. My dessert was the chocolate and banana dessert, it was rich and indulgent and sates that sweet hit at the end of a meal. If visiting Yarmouth do not pass up a chance to eat here. Incredible food and amazing hospitality from the staff!

Stopped in with my wife and little girl. We all had haddock and chips, which we really enjoyed. Lightly batted and very tasty. The service was friendly and the atmosphere was lovely.

Visited for lunch - all the food was fab. My favourite dish was crab with pickled fennel and grapefruit. Wine was nicely paired too! Very clean and the service was ace
Grace Oleson — Google review
Salty's is an absolute gem of a seafood focussed restaurant. Both the exterior and interior were high end, with an excellent menu and wine options. The food was extremely well cooked and presented, and tasted so fresh it could have jumped straight out of the nearby Solent onto the plate. So why not a full 5 stars....the only alcohol free beer option was San Miguel, now for those who've tried it I know you won't be drinking it again! The bread sharing starter oddly, didn't turn up with any side plates and really needed oil and balsamic to dip into, especially if focaccia is in the mix! Would I visit again, absolutely! Would like to see a few more options on the alcohol free side and maybe some more chilled music as it was erm rather eclectic given the quality of the food on the plate. Great job guys, can't wait to return!
David Vicary — Google review
Outstanding. Service lovely. Surroundings really tip top. And such a fresh colour scheme and vibe. Much larger than you first imagine when you realise they have upstairs too. But what really makes this place 100% FIVE STARS is the quality of cooking. Aged beef Carpaccio to start. A hint of truffle, but not too strong. I don't really care for truffle, but this was so subtle it was lovely. A hefty portion of 'catch of the day' skate wing pan fried and roasted to perfection, delicious. Bakewell tart, with cherries and kirsch sorbet. Well I elected to change the sorbet for ice cream, not a hint of an issue for them by the way, and this dessert, with its cherries soaked in kirsch sprinkled and drizzled around the soft almost gungy cake, was one of the best desserts I have had the pleasure to consume this past decade. Outstanding. The same word with which I began!

Had dinner here on 21/05/2024. Food was lovely and the service just as good. Excellent food and drink options. Would highly recommend.

Great atmosphere, and superb seafood. What more could you want. I had octopus which was on the specials board and it was up there with one of the best seafood dishes iv ever had. My only slight gripe is that the tables are quite close together, not leaving much space to move around.
Aaron Peterson — Google review
Great food and a friendly team with live music makes a winning combination. The restaurant upstairs is lovely, well decorated, comfortable and relaxed. The bar downstairs is fun and booming at the weekends with a real party atmosphere, and even dancing on tables! It’s quite ‘wild’ for Yarmouth and is highly recommended for a good night out.

Restaurant
Off The Rails is a unique restaurant located in Yarmouth's former train station along the old railway line, offering stunning views of the Yarmouth Marshes and Mill Copse. It's conveniently situated just a short walk from the Yarmouth Wightlink Ferry terminal, making it an ideal stop for walkers, cyclists, and visitors to the Isle of Wight. The restaurant welcomes dogs and even has a special menu for them, including dry meals, treats, and dog-friendly ice cream.
After looking up places we could go for food on the Island, that were dog friendly, I was keen to try this place for breakfast. I love anything quirky and having waffles on the menu is always a way to my heart. We were met by kind, friendly staff when we arrived and the dogs were in their element. We even ordered some treats for them off the menu. The decor is just lovely and quaint, I just loved the feel of the place. I can imagine it being so lovely but packed In the summer. The food portions were perfect and the food itself was so delicious! My partner made me try his toast, knowing that I hate butter. I've honestly never had anything like it! It was insanely good. My only regret is that we didn't get a chance on this trip to try out the lunch menu. It's perfectly placed for a long walk on the no longer used tracks and into the woods.

Such a great and friendly place to visit that casts you back to old days. Old station revamped into awesome dining experience. We came for breakfast then a long family walk along the old Yarmouth line track bed which goes for mile and miles.. Great experience for all ages groups and families and couples. Highly highly recommended

Wonderful, quirky place. Great food imaginatively presented. I had the crab dish - great flavour mixes. Lovely staff, will recommend to my customers and be back. Thanks xx

One of my new favorites. Absolutely love this place. Staff are all very lovely. Sunday roast was the best I've had since I can remember! and it really does feel like you are sitting amongst history. Such a great vibe. Highly recommended 👌

We had the Luggage Burger, OMG...super tasty! Could not manage a starter or dessert!! Staff extremely helpful & friendly. Period decor really quaint, prices affordable. Will definitely visit again.
Natalie Adcock — Google review
Fantastic food, extremely tasty and interestingly presented! Well worth a visit if you're in Yarmouth and fancy a bite to eat. Very busy, expect people may need to book in advance, rather than guaranteed table if dropping in. There's more seating outdoors, which if weather is dry, may facilitate more of a table guarantee for walk ins! Great place!

a converted railway station in yarmouth is home to 'off the track's' with its railway themed interior & inspired menu (in the form of a newspaper). my wife had booked 3 months ago to ensure I had a birthday meal in this restaurant (it's very popular here). we were a party of 6 & all had different meals & drinks. the staff were busy (a good sign) and the food was fresh & well prepared & cooked using locally sourced produce where possible. verdict: we loved it & will certainly return (if we can get a table!).

We have been a handful of times now, following a recommendation. Each time we visit the Isle of Wight, it is now our go-to place to eat on the whole island. The food has always been exceptional, along with friendly, attentive staff. I look forward to coming back again soon.

Had a wonderful breakfast here, food is fresh and beautifully cooked, more of a gastronomic treat than at most other cafés. People were very friendly and helpful too and our dogs were made as welcome as we were! Fabulous - a must for dogs and their people!

What a brilliant place to have breakfast 👍. Anyone looking for a good breakfast on the isle of wight I would recommend this place. Lovely freshly cook breakfast here within a old style train station. The surrounding view is lovely to look on to whiles having a good morning breakky 🥓 (coalmans breakfast is the one ❤️) They had plenty of choice of breakfast with vegan or vegetarian choices available. The only to small cons are lack of parking and I was not keen on the coffee ☕
Troy Woods — Google review
Amazing food - restaurant quality, good coffee and fantastic selection of cakes - loads of gluten free options available. Staff very welcoming and friendly. Dogs welcome inside and out, they even have a doggy food menu/snacks. Loved it so much we are going back tomorrow.

Great little stopping point when on a walk or 5 mins up from the centre. Overlooking the floodplain and river. Huge variety of drinks and food looked good (although we didn't get any). Worth a visit. A doggy haven!

Utterly delightful. Lovely staff. Great food. Imaginative menu. Beautiful concept with such attention to detail. An absolute gem of which the proprietors' should be duly proud.
Simon Wheeler (Boché) — Google review
Such a cool, quirky place. It’s a converted railway station on the cycle track and all themed e.g. the menus are a newspaper. Food looks delicious but I just had a frappuccino. Needed more / stronger coffee but would definitely revisit for food
Jamie Regan — Google review
A perfect stop for breakfast! During our recent visit to the isle we stopped here twice for breakfast / brunch. Both times I had to have “The Steam Train” - meatloaf on toast topped with eggs and a masala hollandaise sauce. Perfection on a plate. They of course offer your more traditional full cooked breakfast, pancakes, and pastries too. Whilst we didn’t attend for their main menu, there was a lot to tempt us back in our next visit. I love their take on catering for children - rather than providing a deep fried / unhealthy kids menu, they provide children’s portions of the standard menu encouraging children to try new things. Fully dog friendly inside and out. Booking in advance is a must to avoid disappointment at this busy stop, but you will need to use a card and may be charged if you don’t then use your booking - something understandable for a small business. Parking can be tricky outside, but is only 5 minutes walk from the Yarmouth main P&D via a very pleasant path.

Restaurant
On The Rocks is a highly regarded establishment known for its delectable cuisine and exceptional service. Diners are particularly impressed with the generous portion sizes, making it great value for money. The staff members are friendly and helpful, ensuring a positive dining experience. One of the main highlights is the unique concept of cooking food on hot rocks, which adds an element of excitement to the meal.
I was a little put out when they said that I had to cook my own food .... but this turned out to be a fabulous lunch! A great concept in a super location, well worth trying and dogs allowed over a lunch time. If you've not done this before I'll give a brief description. You basically order he meat,.fish or cheese that you want and it comes.tp.you.wothna.got lava stone and to cook it as you go! Served with bottom less fries and a salad it's a really good way to turn eating into an experience and all the better.if you like your steak done a certain way! It may seem a little pricey, at £25 for a sirloin, but our total bill for 6 was no much more than a good pub lunch. So go for the experience and the great good! It is very honest, as you get to see the quality before you eat! Super friendly staff and a lovely town to visit!

One in a lifetime experience YOU MUST HAVE and we absolutely loved it! All the staff were fantastic and I'd go bk there every weekend if I lived locally... the menu was spot on... dessert & wine choices were amazing they even let us stay indoors awhile waiting for the cab awhile they were tiding up... thank u for making our anniversary extra special 💓 💗 💖

We went to On The Rocks last night. It was great atmosphere and the staff were absolutely fantastic. They made us feel so welcomed. They looked after is really well. Ok now the food: the steak was fabulous. The quality of the meat and fish and prawns was top notch. The salad was really good and the fries seemed to be were of unlimited supply. Which made us all very happy. I really enjoy cooking my own steak on the rock. The manager explained everything to us clearly and gave us free shots after the meal. It was going down as one of the best nights in Yarmouth.❤️

Awesome experience cooking on a hot rock! The staff were very helpful with top tips on how to get it done. Great and friendly service. Quality was all-round great.
Anna Afiontzi — Google review
A small but we'll formed menu of food to cook on lava rocks on your table. Possibly most noticed for its steak selection, all of which are top quality. I particularly enjoyed the rack of lamb, while my wife enjoyed a massive tuna steak. There is street parking that is free after 18.00. The restaurant is fully wheelchair accessible. I would not recommend this place for children, not least because of the hot rocks on the tables. I recommend booking during the summer months as the restaurant is very popular, not least with those using the marina.
Paul Henshaw — Google review
Words fail me at how utterly AMAZING this restaurant is! The service is out of this world, restaurant spotlessly clean, food exceptionally fresh and tasty. Pudding OMG!! Lovely touch of apple sour shots and sweets with the bill. Honestly can not fault this restaurant. Went twice during our week long stay. Highly recommend.

They squeezed our family in despite no booking on a busy bank holiday evening. Amazing service, polite knowledgeable staff. Not the cheapest place to eat but what an experience where you cook your own food to your liking on your own personal hot volcanic rock!
Tim Caddick — Google review
Wow..What a very different way of cooking what you ordered. Brilliant. On The Rocks menu is mainly meat/chicken and I think there is something for the vegetarian. I was served by a lovely young waitress, She was so kind..And told me what to expect. I ordered on the Lunchtime menu the 6oz Sirloin of Steak. And after not much time my steak came on top of a volcanic slate on a plate, Sizzling like a good un, See Picture..You cook it as you want it, I got tons of fries and a lovely large salad on the side, They come with the steak. I found if you cut the steak up into small pieces it's easy to cook. After that I ordered a cookie biscuit and on top was a plob of vanilla ice cream, With chocolate sauce drizzled over the ice cream & a slice of strawberry and two raspberries .See Picture .Delicious. A great place to eat and great atmosphere as well..

Beautiful food, simple menu The concept of cooking your own steak is good but would be better to have to cooked for you..... But it was a great experience and the brownie and ice cream at the end topped it off nicely ❤️

When you’re coming to On The Rocks, you’re coming for the experience. If you’ve never cooked your food on the rocks, then you’ll certainly enjoy doing it. The food was pretty good, and the chips are extremely tasty. All the food comes with bottomless chips and salad, which is nice. The meat was the best I’ve ever had, but it was pretty good. It’s kind of on the pricey side though - but that’s to be expected as it’s a restaurant in Yarmouth. Overall, I would recommend.
Khaled Mohamad — Google review
Simple and excellent concept. Large steaks and/or seafood that you cook yourself on a hot rock. Quality and quantity of food is high. We order surf and turf for 2, when it arrived we thought that was a nice amount for us not realising that was just for 1 and another load of meat was coming! Accompaniments are bottomless fries and salad. A few beer and wine options to round it off. Desserts looked good and our pavlova was great. Definitely returning!
Tim Beech — Google review
Went for a late dinner with my partner and we had the restaurant to ourselves which was a little sad as it definitely deserves to be busy. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. We had the surf and turf for 2, and it was fantastic, so much food and bottomless chips and salad - the chips were amazing - and the food was fantastic, the steak was so tender and just melted in the mouth if you cook it right on the stone! We'd absolutely come back the next time we're on the Island.
Wesley Spearman — Google review
Not as good as before. Unfortunately the surf and turf option is no longer available as it's not scallop season and they said these were very expensive to get hold of. The service did feel a bit rushed this time. The salad was a step up from before with more of a Mediterranean feel with Feta, Olives etc. We ordered two steaks and one seafood platter between three. The seafood was excellent as was one steak but the second steak was far too fatty.
James Butler — Google review
What a amazing place, staff were incredible, food was with out doubt the best steak I have had in my life and the fact you mostly cook it yourself on the hot rocks is fantastic
kim jenkins — Google review
Lovely experience. Cook your own selection on a hot rock. Lovely modern decor. Very friendly attentive staff who explained how to cook on the rock. We opted cor surf and turf for two. It was such a tender Chateaubriand with scallops and King prawns. All supplied with bottomless fries and Greek salad. A lovely relaxed evening.

The Terrace is a restaurant situated in Yarmouth, Isle of Wight, overlooking the Wightlink ferry terminal. It boasts two outdoor terraces furnished by Bridgman and enclosed Shelters that offer stunning views of the Harbour, Yarmouth Castle, and the Solent. The dining room features a contemporary design infused with local art. The Isle of Wight plays a crucial role in producing some of Britain's finest food, ranging from fishing to farming.
Restaurant with terrace, as the name suggests, overlooking Yarmouth harbour. The interior is brought and airy. Service was friendly and efficient, and my aged steak was tender and delicious. The croissant bread and butter pudding is to die for. I'm definitely going to try and reproduce that at home!
Rob Wood — Google review
The Terrace is a great place for any occasion. Sit outside in the clear pods and enjoy the life of the harbour. Or go inside and enjoy the view , but wherever you sit, you will have a lovely meal, with attentive friendly staff. You can even see the chef and the team. The Menu has about six starters, six Mains, and six desserts. All are made to perfection, and it's difficult to choose. All dishes are reasonably priced, The menu will suit most dietary requirements. Enjoy your meal.

Nice restaurant with a terrace overlooking the Yarmouth marina so you get to see the yachts and motorboats going to and fro. They have a selection of fish dishes (mussels, fish and chips, lemon sole etc.) as well as burgers and a kids menu too. They have a 2 wine lists and do cocktails as well. The food was rather good although it took 45 minutes to turn up.

Lovely mothers day meal here. Very good service, caring and accommodating staff. Great views! The lamb shank was especially lovely ! This is the second time I have eaten here - the first was for breakfasts which were fantastic too! Only reason not a 5 was that the roast could’ve done with more veggies. Will definitely go again as there were so many lovely starters to choose from, I need to try the rest!

Lunch The Terrace Yarmouth This is truly a special place in a fantastic setting on the Isle of wight. It's been on our list for quite a while. We could see it was a must try and recommended it to michelinguide . We're not saying they took any notice but they managed to visit before us. It's gone straight into their guide. As the name suggests, this harbourside restaurant boasts a wonderful terrace, it's lovely and large located right above the Wightlink ticket office. With fish to the fore, the concise menu reflects the seasonality of the island’s ingredients, and the classical dishes are well-executed and very tasty. We made a special trip, and to get to it you have to take the Wight link ferry which is about 40mins. Our doggies Feddie & Lilly came along too. We had their very good value set lunch. Starters Lemon & Herb Fishcake Pan Seared Scallops Mains Venison Haunch And of course we had to have the dish of the day. Half Dover Sole Desserts Banoffee Souffle Lemon Treacle Tart Everything was totally faultless. The location,The food and the lovely friendly staff. If you ever get the chance to go it is well worth the trip. Our dogs loved it too. Review helpful like 👍 follow

We stopped in here for a drink while we waited for our ferry and were enjoying ourselves so much that we missed it, despite being so close to it that we could virtually reach out and touch it! 😂 I saw another review where someone else said the same thing so it's clearly a known hazard haha. We were lucky enough to nab one of the lovely glass shelters on the terrace, it was a chilly November afternoon so we closed the windows and put the heater on and we enjoyed the views from the comfort and warmth of our little pod. The friendly waiter recommended a can of Wight Knuckle faux lager which was absolutely delicious. It's brewed in the islands own micro brewery and we'd highly recommend it, and this lovely pub. Just be careful not to miss your ferry, you need to be on it at least 5 minutes before it sets off, then again there are worse places to be stranded for an extra couple of hours!

This is an excellent place to eat and drink! The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating to myself and my family. We enjoyed some wonderful cocktails and great food from the Valentines Day Set Menu. The owner managed to squeeze us in for a late booking despite being fully booked, and we enjoyed our meal in one of the greenhouse “pods” on the terrace. Coming from London, the food was of a high standard for an excellent price. We will definitely be returning. 100% recommend! Xx

Amazing spot & enjoyed our meal but the food wasn’t as good as we expected. The terrace overlooks Yarmouth harbour, with views of the Solent which are absolutely stunning at sunset. To eat, had cured salmon with beetroot & horseradish cream to start - this was outstanding & the best dish of the evening. Monkfish in a lobster bisque with crab croquettes was good, nothing special. Dessert - rhubarb creme brûlée - similar. Good service. Would definitely still recommend
Jamie Regan — Google review
I was recommended The Terrace by another restaurant in Yarmouth. I'd not been before, so decided to try it out for dinner when on a sailing trip. I'm super-pleased we did as we had an excellent evening there. The menu had some great options, with lots of locally sourced foods. I shared a couple of starters - the scallops and the pork cheek - followed by the Pollock. All were presented beautifully and tasted even better. The outdoor pods are a hang over from COVID social distancing times, but have proved popular and so remain. We ate inside, which was great, but I'd definitely like to try on of the pods next time. A definitely recommended venue.

Having arrived following a wake at 7.30pm on a Thursday. The team couldn't have been more accommodating for 6 of us to just sit down and eat our own interpretation of what we needed as an evening meal following a tough day. I had the Cod as a safe bet I wouldn't over fill but I'd enjoy all the same. It was the most outstanding fish dish I have had the pleasure of eating. I've eaten in some fantastic places under chefs that are renowned for their michelin worthy food. Blown away. Great Cod. Lovely hospitality and a pub that I will return to without a doubt in my mind.

Stopped by for an impromptu lunch before a walk around freshwater. Food was delicious. I had the wild mushroom ravioli with spinach, pickled red onion, truffle & parmesan. Really earthy, fresh flavours and the perfect portion size. Staff really friendly too, will definitely be back to try more of the menu! The desserts sounded ace. Thanks!

I love this place particularly now that it has a new chef and menu. The food in the last year is nothing short of exceptional including classic pub dishes but also more unusual dishes e.g venison, stone bass. Usually at least one good beer on tap and lovely service. Beautiful setting and building too!

Delicious, my husband declared his the best burger he'd had on the island. I had gnocchi very tasty, granddad the steak and ale which was 'very good' high praise from him. They fitted 5 of us in without booking, with an hour slot before their buffet clients arrived. Friendly and prompt service. I'd recommend booking as this place is justifiably popular. Dogs welcome too.

Only negative was that we weee reminded continuously that we have to vacate the table at 8pm and there was a mix up with desserts but overall the staff were very friendly and the food was amazing. Very happy! Parking is helpful too.
