The Citadelle, situated within the ramparts of Montreuil sur mer, showcases the coats of arms of local knights who fought against the English in a renowned battle. This iconic fortress was constructed on the remains of a former royal castle and stands out as an extraordinary stronghold in northern France. It serves as a sanctuary for protected bay species and employs Boulonnais sheep for ecological maintenance between April and July.

(Translated by Google) A beautiful citadel, of which almost nothing remains. Heel erg leuke uitstap! (Translated by Google) Very nice excursion! A beautiful citadel that was built to defend against the Normans. Afterwards, the citadel was expanded and rebuilt several times. The explanation is in French, English and Dutch. There are also many activities for children: from building vaults to archery or solving a cluedo and cracking the code to the treasure. Highly recommended if you are in the area. The views from the citadel are beautiful. You can park here for free.

The citadel was built on the ruins of a former royal castle. It’s Montreuil’s most exceptional feature and a unique fortified set of buildings in the North of France 🇫🇷 It’s also a home for server protected bay species 🦇 From late April to late July, Boulonnais sheep participate in the ecological maintenance of the site 🐑 They also provided costume for children to dress up, which was the highlight for my children 👍

Good food, although the portions are quite small despite the formula: starter and main course for 26 euros. As a starter, super fresh delicious escargots with garlic butter and toasted white baguette to share in an ovenproof dish, followed by a Travers de porc (marinated ribs) and a Paleron de boeuf (upper shoulder of the front leg) super soft and with a delicious fresh veal jus (+ 3 ,5 Euro). All this was accompanied by fresh young potatoes fried in their skins, fresh dark sourdough bread and a salad with vinaigrette. Personally, I thought everything was not sufficiently seasoned enough, but in all honesty I must say there was pepper and sea salt on the table. The vinaigrette was quite sour, but that's why it's called vinaigrette, I guess. The service was provided by a very sales and professional waitress and her male assistant. It was very noisy because of many people on the small surface, the high ceiling and a table of 18 very noisy Dutch people who unfortunately lived up to their stereotypical reputation. As far as I'm concerned, definitely recommended for food, in the summer on the terrace of the soon, I will probably go back someday when I'm in the area

A brilliant place for traditional food and fantastic quiches - the best Quiche Loraine I’ve ever had. Staff was friendly and accommodated us even though they were due to close in less than 30mins but there didn’t seem to be any rush to get any of visitors out of the door and the vibe inside is really great with historic decor matching the tasty traditional food. All the food we tried was really tasty with generous portions. Would definitely go back for another quiche!
Rolands Popenkovs — Google review
When we arrived, we were told that we would have to wait for 40 mins for a table which we glady did. This place is known for their quiches and soups, thus we had to try both. We ordered the well known quiche lorraine, a spinach honey quiche together with a couple of soups and a crocke monsieur for the kids. We were told to wait 20 mins for the quiche as they are freshly prepared. The soups arrived first and they were very tasty with a nice consistency. The quiches arrived shortly afterwards and were nice and hot. They were about 7-8 inches in diameter and together with the soup we had, sufficiently quenched the hunger we had been feeling. Staff were very friendly

(Translated by Google) A monastery in itself beautifully situated. (Translated by Google) Interesting and beautiful abbey, also a very beautiful garden. That was fine but no signs up to say it was closed, but they let us get quick pictures. Signage there warning the monestery is being renovated. Beautiful building.

Looking at the outer appearance of the people and food, you assume this is a decent place with delicious dishes - until you taste it. French restaurant
La Grenouillère is an exceptional dining establishment situated in a rural farmhouse setting. Known for its rustic-chic ambiance, the restaurant offers a tantalizing array of gourmet dishes. The hotel, which also boasts luxurious rooms and suites, stands out as a pioneering property with an experimental approach to cuisine. La Grenouillère prides itself on using locally sourced ingredients from the surrounding fields and rivers.
After finishing both challenges (trying all the Michelin 3 Stars and all the Parisian stars in 365 days), I’m now redoing a lot of them but also trying the “main” 2 stars. Indeed, during my tour, I often ask chefs for 2 Stars advices and La Grenouillère name came up several times amongst their recommendations. So here I was. Please note that this review is one for the restaurant. So what’s extraordinary here? Well a word of advice and a second one. First one, is that indeed, La Grenouillère is often mentioned and expectations can be high, but more importantly, distorted. Just like a movie, after hearing so many feedback, your experience may be polluted. So my first advice would be not to read to many reviews about it (which is a bit ironic coming from me, I admit…). Why? Because some reviews may induce you to go into an intellectual read, where I think one must first simply relax and experience it before thinking of it. It’s a challenge indeed, not only because as I said you may have hear of the chef and his cuisine before, but also the atmosphere, the design, the foodie crowd may incline you to it. Resist. And let yourself dive into the nature first. The freshness of the radish. The pear. The scallops. Just enjoy it, and then enjoy them, and then you may wonder how they are connected, what effect they produce on you and so on. But the last part is an option, or at least a consequence, not the goal. I guess the goal is just to bring you closer to his nature, by that I mean region, by breaking it down and playing with it. The crowd was foodies and couples. The wine list had some the right names on it. A very solid two stars

The chef doesn't like when people take pictures so that people can enjoyed their meal, focus on their food and be surprises so no pictures in this review :) We had a beautiful experience their for my boyfriend's 30th birthday. There were 6 of us and we were given the table facing the kitchen. There you get the memorable and immersive experience to be in Alexandre Gauthier's kitchen. It feels like you are in a Netflix episode of Chef's table as you see the incredible ballet of people and duties happening! We indulged with 4 bottle of wine which we were very happy with and a bottle of Cider which was an unusually good idea! We had the tasting menu (155euros for 11courses) and added the frog legs supplement (the classical ones with garlic parsley were best, I found). We had a beautiful time and particularly enjoyed La Raviole Rouge, le Sandre, the mimolette bite and all of the nibbles we had for aperitif. We also had the privilege of having the chef personally serving one of the dishes to us. Tableware was beautiful. The space is a play between light and shadow. It has a lot of modernity to it mixed with the classical countryside details of the imposing chimney or heavy wood tables. Bread was delicious especially the wholemeal one. Butter was too mild temperature for my taste, making it too liquid and spreadable. Careful to not indulge too much on the bread as you are very full by the end of the menu. We also had the opportunity to stay on site in the lovely rooms where a lot of thoughtful details are included. From the infusion in the drawing room when you arrive, to the fresh apple juice and waffle In the room, including the Davines bath and body products in the bathroom. The breakfast was also a nice moment with some eclectic selection of tastes, nothing being quite classical (rhubarb jam, fennel and vergeoise brioche, propolis honey...). A beautiful memory and hope to be back sometimes soon again

Amazing restaurant! Tasty beer and great quiches! 🥰 Location is perfect as well, we spent our lunch outside on a beautiful street full with flowers. It was an amazing experience, personal was friendly and nice, even though we didn't speak French :)

Tucked away in the last remaining 17C artisan quarter of the town by the ramparts, this is a gem. Lovely food simple and well cooked. Lovely old building with friendly young staff. Not to be missed.

Worth a trip to Montreal Sur Mer on it's own! The quiches are 👌

It was full when we came in, nevertheless we got an impeccable service (fast, friendly, informative). Food was extremely tasty, everyone found something for them (adults and kids). Kids were given coloring pens, so we could all enjoy the meal. I would recommend to reserve your table in advance.

Exquisite chateau with perfect attention to detail and incredible staff, personalizing service. We could not be more pleased with our stay at the Chateau de Montreuil. Beautifully apportioned rooms, each with a different character, stunning grounds, perfect location for checking the impressive 16th century fort or ramparts of the town, highly attentive and professional staff that will take you by foot to where you want to be, electric charging stations and the option of a mouthwatering breakfast in bed - Thanks for a delightful stay!

Made a lunch reservation in advance having seen photos of the beautiful gardens and excellent reviews. We arrived to be ignored for 15 minutes, had to find the lunch menu ourselves, and ask for the wine list three times. We left having ordered nothing and went to Froggy's, would much recommend doing the same! Guess we caught them all on a bad day?

I came to spend 2 days in the hotel in September with my wife. We were able to try the Château table which I highly recommend! The dishes were very good and the flavors original, all on a well presented plate! Little extra for desserts! As for the rooms, they were large, well decorated and bright! I recommend for a weekend or even a simple gastronomic outing

This is very beautiful hotel! Excellent work and detail has been put into the design. Each room is different and in harmony. A firework for eyes and senses. Bravo! The outdoor area is very nice too. The beautiful big garden feels almost eden. Staff was in general friendly and courteous and only punctual stiff or cold.

Fist time we come back since former chef has left and what a disappointing experience! We ordered "paleron en cuisson douce" (could be translated to "slow-cooked chuck steak"). Our dish was served with way too much gravy and the meat was rare! Totally inedible! The pavlova served for dessert was pathetic. Ridiculous tea and coffee options. Waiter even suggests a breakfast tea blend in the evening! Service was awfully obsequious. Definitely lost its former prestige and will never see us back.

Unfortunately we had a very bad experience. We had dinner with four people. It started with the allergies. They correctly asked if we had any, and one of our group has a mussels allergy. The the first dish served was a mussels dish.. no problem, we are not difficult people, so the plate was changed. We had the chefs surprise menu, but to our surprise in two dishes one of us got half the size (tuna and cheese) as the rest us. Bit strange… then the accompanying wine was forgotten with the first starter. It came after the starter was consumed. The first starter btw was announced as amuse, who’s counting, but we lost track. The main course was Tuna. The cuisson was so bad. Very very dry. The strange thing was that one of us got the tuna steak rare but only baked on one side, the other side was completely rare. When the waiter saw the plates were not empty he seemed angry. Started asking questions why the food was not eaten and seemed ver aggrieved. We expected a gastronomic dinner, we also paid accordingly, but got nothing like it. Fortunately we had a good laugh with it that evening and decided to never come back. (There was a large group simultaneously and we think this decreased service and quality drastically, but it shouldn’t as the bill was also not decreased accordingly 😊)
