Art Museums
MAIIAM Contemporary Art Museum is a small but modern exhibition space that showcases contemporary art from Thailand and other parts of Asia. The artwork on display is thought-provoking, with video installations being particularly noteworthy. While some pieces lack explanatory text, the overall experience encourages visitors to question and think deeply about the art. Although it may not be the best museum around, it's still worth visiting as a student ticket costs 100 baht while an adult ticket costs 150 baht.
Outstanding art museum. Gorgeous space that's obviously been expertly and lovingly curated. Modest price is well worth this world class museum. We saw the international collaboration ERRATA installation, just one day before its run ended. Knew we were very lucky not to have missed it. Permanent holdings upstairs. Excellent museum shop with cool art books & momentos. Lovely cafe. Come and forget you're not in Abuja or San Francisco!

An excellent museum of modern art, but a little far from the city center. There is a lot of space, an interesting exposition! The ticket price is 200 TB per person. There is a good souvenir shop and a cafe on the territory of the museum. A great place to spent 1-2 hours surrounded by art)

A wonderful experience for myself and my art students from Lanna International school. We spoke to the owner about contacting the artists to interview them. They were really helpful and attentive to us. All my students found at least 2 artists they were really influenced by and will include artwork around those artists for their A Level Art & Design, personal investigation. I will bring more students to this gallery on the future.

Small museum for contemporary art with some interesting pieces. The building itself is beautiful, from the inside and outside. Currently, there's an exhibition room in the context of the Ching Mai Design Week. There's a cafe and shop as well. It's a half hour ride outside of town but for art lovers it might be worth the trip. For those coming with ride apps, Bolt was the best option going there but for coming back Grab was easy and cheap (Bolt didn't offer any option), for 150 compared to the 350 it suggested for the way out. So coming out here with apps is not a problem.

One of the rare modern art museums in Chiang Mai. There were a number of interesting pieces, including video installations. The pieces are more provocative than pleasant. If you like to be mentally shaken a bit, and made to think and question, this might make a good excursion. The museum is a bit small and you can finish it within an hour. Some of the installations didn't have any explanatory text, so I couldn't make head or tail of them.

The museum is not so big, but it’s modern and has curious expositions! Not the best museum I have seen in my life but it’s nice to visit!) for students it’s 100 baht and for adults 150 baht

'MAIIAM Contemporary Art Museum' (พิพิธภัณฑ์ศิลปะร่วมสมัยใหม่เอี่ยม) is located in San Kampang district, on the road towards Mae On (drive 18km or 25mins from Chiang Mai down town on highway No.1006) further away from ChamCha market around 6km The art museum had been transformed from a warehouse, a wide space had been well-decorated with lightings and separated the space to showcase the selected artworks and held the exhibitions from the artists around the globe The exhibition that had been presented at that time was ‘Cold War: the mysterious’ exhibition by Thasnai Sethaseree over the past year. Remarkable and inspiring story! You can take an hour or more to appreciate the free spirit artistic works in the museum that I can assure you, it will definitely worth your visit! (Entrance Fee Student/Senior 100THB, Adult 200THB, Open Fri - Mon 10.00 - 18.00)

When you are bored seeing all the historical and traditional stuff around Chiang mai, this is the place to go. It houses a great collection of contemporary art pieces from famous artists of thailand. It’s a small museum but the artwork is high quality. Also there are seasonal events too. During chiang mai design week they had some special displays. Museum is only two floors and will take around 1 -2 hours to see it completely. There is a cafe and a souvenir shop too. Its a bit far from the main city but worth a visit. Ticket was 200baht. If you are using public transportation, you can take a white bus going towards Sankampang. Buses start from Kad luang. only 20baht. If not, can take a grab car from city which will cost around 250 baht. Grab is a faster

A small museum with modern arts collections. The place has the chill vibe and the art pieces provide the visual impacts to the visitors. To me it is justified for the 200 bhats ticket😁

I recommend visiting this museum if you like modern art and are around Chiang Mai! It's quite small (it took me one hour to see everything), but it's worth it! It has a quiet atmosphere. I was there during the weekend in June, and it was almost empty, so you get it to enjoy and admire the art in peace. The exhibition downstairs is a pond you can walk on using some steps. That exhibition is also very colorful and glittery. I'm sure kids would enjoy seeing that as well.

Amazing. Bright & welcoming and a true hidden gem! Small but diverse, beautifully curated & world class. Beautiful cafe & store as well. Worth the 15min inexpensive taxi ride. Ticket 150Baht (less for students/senior/kids) Highly recommend this place.

It's a small museum but worth a visit. You’ll also find here a lovely shop with unique handwork items and jewelry and an extensive collection of art and historical books.

I recently visited the MAIIAM Contemporary Art Museum in Chiang Mai, Thailand and was blown away by the stunning exhibitions on display. The museum is located in a beautiful, modern building with ample space for the various works of art. One of the standout exhibits was a series of large-scale installations by Thai artist, Kamin Lertchaiprasert. His use of vibrant colors and intricate details really caught my eye and I found myself spending a lot of time examining each piece. The museum also featured a number of interactive exhibits, including a room filled with mirrors that changed color as you moved through it. This was a really fun and immersive experience, and it was great to see how the museum was incorporating technology into the art. The museum also had a gift shop stocked with unique, locally-made items and a café serving delicious Thai food. Overall, I had a fantastic time at the MAIIAM Contemporary Art Museum and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Chiang Mai.

Absolut amazing art work with wooden elephants. A big exhibition and museum about elephants. If you are at BoSang go to Sangkampaeng to Baan Jang Nak. Currently you can see the workers doing their art.

Very nice place with perfect atmosphere. Nice and cheap coffeeshop, free parking and very friendly owner. Free entry, its donation based museum. You can buy handmade wooden elephants.

Incredible museum of art work of a very talented and diligent master wood carver who fell in love for live with elephants. The yard of several Lanna-style wooden houses is filled with elephant carvings of any sizes and styles as well as many drawing, painting and other forms of art making tribute to those magnificent kings of jungle. There are several realistic life-size statues of elephants and one of a mammoth. I highly recommend visiting this place. Also there's a nice café downstairs.

San Kamphaeng Saturday Walking Street is a vibrant market that opens from 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM. It features an array of local vendors offering handicrafts, fresh produce, clothing, and various food options. Visitors can also enjoy live music while exploring the long market road. However, parking can be challenging to find nearby. The market presents a wide variety of goods, including artworks and souvenirs, but visitors are advised to bargain and compare prices before making purchases.
Fantastic markets, really great food and drinks!

Good night market uitside Cnx,and a lot cheaper then the walking steet in Chiang Mai
Jan — Google review
Interesting walking street market. A section of the street is closed off for vendors to come together and open their shops. This includes clothes, toys, local handicrafts, food and many more. Even saw a car being sold. Downside is it's hard to find a parking close to the venue, you have to be lucky. Many kinds of food are sold here from fresh to cooked. There is also live music so people can enjoy while eating. The market road is long so expect to spend quite some time there. You'll end up with several bags in each hand on the way home.

Any street food you want and you can buy virtually any outfit, accessories or toys. It seems to go on forever and you can find some great vegan options. It's pretty packed but check out the stalls where people tend to congregate. Make sure you check out the fried roti stall that's always on this main Street outside. Only 7 baht!

The best walking market. Huge food selection, lots of great stalls. A special mention for the lady with the best fisherman's pants in all of Thailand and the Korean chicken food truck.

DO NOT come from CM without return ride. We took a red truck all the way out and stayed for approximately 2 hours. We ended up having to walk the majority of the way back to CM because the red trucks would/could not pull over due to no parking signs. Finally had to ask our Thai daughter to call a cab for us.

Cham Cha Market is a market that deals with local handicrafts, clothes and other interesting items. It's an open area market that offers a peaceful environment where you can freely roam around without getting congested. The market is held both during the day and at night, so you can find a variety of shops to visit.
Explore the charm of Chamcha Market, usually a weekend delight, but today, being New Year's Day, some shops have opened their doors. The atmosphere exudes cuteness, perfect for those who appreciate sincere markets and handmade craftsmanship at affordable prices. Serendipitously passing by today, I reveled in the tranquility with few visitors, making strolling a breeze. Definitely marking a return visit. P.S. Keep an eye out for the two resident orange cats—one playful, one not. A delightful detail! 🤣

The drive to the market itself is pretty scenic and as soon as you arrive, you can sense the rustic and charming atmosphere. Great for a morning stroll around and a cuppa. The shops are nothing to shout about as you can find similar ones everywhere but do go for the ambience. A great breakfast or lunch destination for sure.

This is a very special place with an artist studio and shop called "Heart Space". There is a shop by a Thai writer named "Look Comb" at the entrance. I recommend coming during the weekdays for slow and peaceful environments. Several stores are still open during non-weekends. The best market in Thailand based on my multiple visits over several years. Very peaceful environment. Pleasant to walk. Every minute here is joyful. Items tend to be more pricey, but i see myself using the items purchased here for a long time, as opposed souvenirs from other markets that always end up taking storage without real use.

I am looking for coffee around my place on Sunday and I found this unique market on the map!! This is the village that people built they own house becomes a tourist place, if you visit here on Saturday and Sunday you will find unique market name is “Cham Cha Market”. This place has promoted local products such as local shirts, plants, and art-works. There is many restaurants and coffee cafés located in the market, they have their own coffee signature. Don’t worry about toilet no charging, nice music not to loud. Rare foods also available here, especially local northern foods. You can walk-In there is no charging for entry and don’t forget to bring Cash because most of them are villagers. So, if you need to feed your family I would recommend here to be your choices.

Do manage your expectation. The market is beautiful if you appreciate retro and handicraft settings. Very instagram worthy. However there are very little shops (~30) and minimal food options. Toilet can be found in 3 spots of the entire stretch. I don't regret dropping by here. Hopefully more artists will open their shop here on weekends. I would love to see more unique crafts and clothing.

A charming artisan market in Chiang Mai that is definitely worth a visit. The market offers a great selection of locally made handicrafts, souvenirs, and unique items that you won't find anywhere else. The market is not too big, so you can easily walk around and take your time browsing through the different stalls. The vendors are friendly and knowledgeable, and there is no pressure to buy anything. One of the things I loved most about Chamcha Market is the atmosphere – it's a great place to soak up the chill culture. Plus, the prices are very reasonable, so you can pick up some great souvenirs without breaking the bank.

A lovely little market, hidden away from the main road which is a pity. Even though it was a public holiday, there were very few stalls open. The lady with the tea was amazing. She interacted with our small group as if we were the most important people on earth. Her teas are healthy and very tasty.

(Translated by Google) It is one of the famous temples in Sankhamphaeng district. It is the starting point for the Umbrella Festival parade held every January. The word "Bo Saan" (บ่อสร้าง) in the temple's name means a well dug by humans. I don't know if it is still functioning, but there is a large well within the temple grounds. This temple was built during the reign of King Kawila the Great (1782-1816) of the Restorated Lanna Dynasty. When the Great King went on an expedition to Chiang Saen, he ordered many of the residents to move to Chiang Mai. Some of them were sent to live in Sankampaeng. It seems that there was a village of people who moved from Chiang Saen in the area around this temple. After some time, they built a community temple within their village. This is Wat Bosan. They dug a large communal well on the property to improve local infrastructure. This is "Bo San", which has that word in the temple name. Since then, this temple has been protected by local people, and has undergone renovations and expansions. In 1991-1992, a Japanese man named Yumehara (ยูเมฮาระ โซะจั่ง) donated a large amount of money to build the Chiang Mai World Peace Pagoda. Since the nameplate says ``Japanese National Buddhism Established'', I believe that the person named Yumehara is related to the religious world (Buddhist world?). Bossan is famous as a town for making umbrellas. In the vicinity, there are many large and small workshops and shops that make traditional umbrellas. This umbrella-making technique was brought to this area by a monk named Phra Inta (พระอินถา) who lived in Wat Bosan. It is said that when Phra Inta was on a pilgrimage to various places, he once hung tin in the border area with Myanmar. At that time, I was given an umbrella by a person from Myanmar. Since Phra Inta was a traveling monk, the villagers gave him an umbrella in case it rained. The umbrella Phra Inta received was so beautiful that he asked the villagers about umbrellas and decided to learn how to make them. After mastering the art of making umbrellas, Phra Inta returned to Wat Bosan and taught the techniques he had learned to the people of Bosan village. I think they did this because they thought it would make a difference in the lives of the villagers. Since then, the villagers have developed the method of making Burmese umbrellas that they learned from Phra Inta, and have made changes to the material, size, coloring, and drawing. In this way, the Bosan umbrella became a local specialty and became widely known. Wat Bosan is the starting point for the Umbrella Festival parade because it is the birthplace of the Bosan umbrella. If you're visiting Bosaan, please stop by. By the way, a memorial statue of Reverend Phra Inta has been erected on the grounds of the Umbrella Making Center, located at the corner of Routes 1006 and 1014, to honor his achievements. Please drop by as well.
