The Olive Oil Museum is a quaint establishment showcasing the historical machinery employed in the production of olive oil. While signage is predominantly in Portuguese, English-speaking visitors need not worry as there are English leaflets available and an English-speaking receptionist on hand. The museum offers a delightful oil tasting experience and also features a shop stocked with various oils, jams, wines, and local pottery - though curiously lacking olives.
Very small museum that teaches about the traditional methods of making olive oil. They sell fantastic local olive oil, and the views of the surrounding valley are beautiful from the adjacent miradour.
Ian Witte — Google review
Small museum with display of the machinery used to make olive oil In the past. Signage in Portuguese but leaflet in English and receptionist speaks English. Oil tasting is nice - the shop offers a range of oils, jams, wines, tourist pottery etc but no olives. More info on the olive tree and types of pressing etc would help to make this museum more comprehensive.

The Jewish Museum of Belmonte, established in 2005, is the first museum in Portugal dedicated to preserving and showcasing the history of the local Jewish community. It has become a popular destination for visitors from around the world. The museum offers a compelling narrative of the Jewish population in Belmonte, particularly their struggles during the Inquisition. Visitors can explore a rich collection of artifacts and stories that shed light on this captivating history. Additionally, there is a synagogue on-site that adds to the immersive experience.
A beautiful museum that brings alive the stories of local Jews, Cryptojews and the survival from medieval Portugal and the Inquisition
Debra Kiez — Google review
Interesting. So glad to live in America with freedom of religion.
Dan R — Google review
If you do not know the history of the secret Jews or Crypto-Jews of Belmonte, you should. Keeping their faith and traditions alive in secret, escaping the horrors of the Inquisition. This is history.
Caleb Ben-Avram — Google review
A small museum with few exhibits. Not much translated into English so that was a problem, but I was hoping for more stories about the Secret Jews of Belmonte, how they lived, managed to continue practicing their lifestyle based on their religion, evaded questioning etc. We read all we could and looked at everything including the audio visual film show in Portuguese, but couldn't make the visit last longer than half an hour. To be honest it was boring. Also there is bright strip lighting that zigzags across the floor, walls and ceiling and it affects your eyes and can make you unsteady on your feet, not pleasant. Not worth the €4 entry cost or time. Not child orientated either. You can buy a combined museums and castle entry ticket that lasts 3 days and gets you into all the museums in Belmonte which is good value.
Bev Maidment — Google review
The visit to this museum was very disappointing. The tour is so modest, and information about the history of the Jews is so shallow that if I read 2 paragraphs on Wikipedia I would have gotten more depth.
Shoham Eckhaus — Google review
We had Arie a guide in the museum and through Belmont. His knowledge of the history of the Jewish population made the trip enjoyable.

The Jewish Museum of Belmonte tells a beautiful story of the Jewish population in their mountain town. The museum is upstairs, but they do have a lift available for those in need. There are many artifacts and lots of stories to read. There is a small gift shop as well.

Centum Cellas, also known as the Villa da Quinta da Fornea, is a Roman tower that has stood for over 2000 years. Currently undergoing archaeological investigation and renovation, it holds great historical significance as a crossing point on the road linking Merida to Guarda. Visitors are captivated by its well-preserved grandeur and perfectly crafted square stones.
Marvelous ruin... It's easy to be transported back two millennium, and wonder what might have been!

The eatery O Brasão, located in Belmonte's city center, occupies a former stone house and boasts tasteful decorations that retain the region's history. This charming cafe offers an array of local dishes that are creatively prepared and served with great care. From octopus to pork, cod, and veal sausage, all the cuisine is expertly executed. While not considered gourmet fare, the home cooking is truly outstanding.
A delightful cafe in the old quarter of town. Location was perfect when weather allows patio seating. A very good take on local dishes. Octopus, pork, cod and veal sausage were all well done. Not gourmet, but excellent home cooking.

Lovely place in one of the main squares of Belmonte. To have dinner outside was really nice. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The food is delicious. Strongly recommend it!
Bárbara Gonçalves — Google review
Good food and decent service. We had veal and pork. Both cooked well and presented with lots of salad etc. They wouldn't allow us to use credit card despite others being allowed to which was a bit wierd. Luckily we had the cash to cover the cost. Would recommend for a decent feed at a reasonable cost. Nothing spectacular but good. Very pretty little square as well
Anthony Stedman — Google review
We had dinner here on a Sunday night. One of the few places serving dinner late night. The staff (only 1 person front of house) was kind, and spoke english. The food we had was good. 4 star because our lamb chops was over cooked.
Vishaal Nagpal — Google review
Friendly staff and large portions, but the food is uninspired, sometimes downright disappointing. One of our main dishes came with hush puppies as accompaniment. Mixed vegetables ended up being steamed spinach. The veal stew is actually a grilled steak. I suspect some of the issues come from the poor English translation in the menu. Nonetheless, it does not make the food any better. It was not terrible food, just not very good. We had plenty extra that we took home, but we could never convince ourselves to finish it.

Restaurant
Pousada Convento de Belmonte is a refined hotel located in a former convent, offering a unique experience with its historical architecture and rustic feel. The beautiful pousada is situated in the hills, providing lovely views from all rooms. Guests can enjoy the bar, outdoor pool, terrace, and restaurant featuring imaginative Portuguese cuisine. While the venue has an attractive restaurant with open fire and friendly staff, some areas may require remodeling to enhance the overall experience.
A bit hard to find, but well worth the time. Only hitch was at dinner, they don't have a sign that tells you to wait to be seated so we sat at a reserved table as my wife had made a reservation for us. Head waiter came over and was less than polite in telling us to pick another table as that one was reserved for someone else. Not a pleasant start to my birthday meal.
Mike S — Google review
Beautiful pousada in the hills. Lovely views from all the rooms. Restaurant very attractive with open fire. Imaginative cuisine well prepared, presented & very good service. Lovely lounge & a few wood burning stoves around, but not actually in the lounge. The corridors to the rooms were rather cold & the bathroom wasn't heated which would have been welcome at this time of year. The staff were all very friendly & helpful.

Love the whole architecture, location, and rustic feel it's fantastic, but far from a realistic price range for the most basic of items, trying to appear exclusive by its price list when it should be its location, the surroundings and staff that define its exclusiveness

A hotel near Belmont that kept most of the decor original. On top there are the views of the mountain. The restaurant has a very good food. The short stay was very enjoyable.
Ba Sh — Google review
This place is pretty nice, with polite and courteous staff. No elevator, but they offered to help, small pool, kind of chilly, but beautiful view, nice rustic feel in a converted convent. The restaurant is also very nice, we had the scallops, and tagliatelle (I can’t recommend either, the scallops tasted good but there were only 2 tiny scallops and the tagliatelle was missing some spices, a little too earthy for me, the entrees were much nicer, my friend had the Pork and said it was quite nice, I had the lamb chops which were exquisite.. dessert was tasty. Friend had the cherry coulee I believe and I had the “worlds greatest” crème brûlée in a river rock.. definitely a show stopper. Room has mini fridge and tv, came with patio and pet cats of the property. The buffet breakfast was also quite nice, especially compared to some of the other places we’ve stayed.. Axel in Spain holds the gold medal still tho.

Fantastically peaceful with lovely views. The rooms are very roomy, definitely not monk's cells! The service and dinner were outstanding. We loved it. Truly a gem.
Alice Newton — Google review
One of the best experiences of our trip. Beautiful old convent repurposed as an inn. Stunning sunset views, quaint bar and string areas close by. Lovely fireplaces that struggled to keep the common areas warm, but added so much ambience, you hardly noticed it. Rooms were plenty warm and comfortable with lots of storage space. Our nice little balcony was a great place to enjoy an after-dinner glass of port, overlooking the now sparkling valley below. The grounds provide a lovely, quiet place for a walk and beautiful plants and flowers abound. The restaurant prepared the finest piece of pork I have ever tasted. Our meal lacked nothing and we left happy and very satisfied. Not to be outdone by dinner, breakfast was exceptional as well with many delicious choices. If you are ever within 150 km of this fantastic hotel experience, I promise you it would be worth it!

The venue is great but tired. Require a remodeling. Goat stew tasted great but meat quality was poor. More bones than meat. Overall a unique venue. The first time we slept in a 14th century hotel. Tip- book the suite - great view.

Horrible service and attitude. I'm waiting for 2 hours to get my room (post check in time) and every 15 minutes or so they come and say it would take more 15 minutes. Never encounter such a bad service, stay out if you can!
Yossi Buskila — Google review
A beautiful, authentic pousada, one of the nicest we' ve been to. The public parts ,including the bar, the hall and all the areas leading to the rooms in the main building are really impressive, as well as the magnificent view of the hills from the rooms. The rooms themselves are a bit of a disappointment, quite old fashioned and outdated, and this forms some contradiction between the rooms and all the rest. Dinner ,too, was not the best we had in Portugal , to say the least.Over priced, for an ordinary food, and one dish- the partrige, which was a disaster- couldn't be eaten. The compensation ,though, was sipping Portonic in the bar, for a very reasonable fare.

Horrible experience, not to repeat! We should have listened to the bad reviews. Worst service in Portugal - they simply do not care! Put our names on list to be seated with the younger waitress, while tables sat free. After 40 minutes, they gave away a free table to a family that just walked up, without wait. The owner glanced at us, knowingly, and we waited more. Two tables became available at the same time and the owner motioned us to sit in the cramped one between two groups, without other word, then left us to wait more. Under the black awning it was uncomfortably hot, like a heater was on. A couple that just walked up was immediately placed in the other free table and were being attended to immediately. Finally, the younger waitress set the table and we waited more for the menus. When the menus finally came, half of the items were either permanently marked out or not available. No drink menu or offer to take our drink order was given. When we finally were able to order, we asked for the special of the day, and were promptly told that the last of it was just ordered - by the table of the couple who were seated AFTER us, who already had drinks! The entire experience was ridiculous! Over an hour wasted for no reason, intentionally bad service and limited overpriced options. Tourist trap to avoid!

Marinated Gambas were very average and not fresh, salad was dry and had no taste, fried potatoes also dry and tasteless. Potato chips were good. After confronting them with our critics, they had no understanding. This place is also totally overpriced for Portugal. Try harder, you can do better.

Casa do Castelo, located in Belmonte, is a popular and stylish restaurant situated on the hillside of the castle. Recommended by an employee from the castle's souvenir shop, Casa do Castelo is conveniently located just outside the castle grounds. The restaurant preserves remnants of its historical past through the presence of old distillery equipment.

This restaurant came recommended from the woman at that worked in the souvenir shop at the castle. It is right outside of the castle. There was an old distillery there at one time. It is now out of commission but the equipment remains inside. The outdoor patio is lovely and shaded with walnut trees. Unfortunately, we couldn’t eat out there. However we had a glass of wine before eating in the dining area. The black pork was good as was the shrimp omelette.

Don't go there. We stopped by, it was busy, we asked to put our names on the waiting list. The manager asked if we speak Portuguese, we said no, the guy said Portugal! Portugal! At which point I turned around and set out to write this review. I know I am a guest here and I did my best to communicate.
