The Dales Countryside Museum tells the fascinating story of the Yorkshire Dales, and is based in an old railway station. It features exhibits on rural life, an outdoor steam train, a cafe, and a gift shop.
Had a lovely day doing a drawing workshop about the Love Tokens, Sittings and Songs exhibition at the museum today. Well worth a visit to see their eclectic collections!

Great value, loads to see and do and handily placed to explore Hawes. Nice cafe too.

Nice relaxing day. Visisted the Wensleydale Cheese Factory/Visitor Centre and had a nice walk round Hawes.
Gwen Sutherland — Google review
Friendly staff and a great museum for adults and children. We took our 2yr old and she was really occupied and catered for. Nice little gift shop. Small cafe. Only had coffee so not sure what choices they had on offer but the village is only a small walk away where there are other places to eat. Parking a bit on the expensive side.
Lorna Mooney — Google review
Visited on a wet weekday, single handed with a 5 year old. The staff couldn't have done more to ensure that he got the most out of the experience. The exhibits give a hugely evocative depiction of the human history of the Dales - 100% recommended.
Chris Hughes — Google review
A great day out. Brilliant Curlew exhibition at the time of visiting. Fantastic.
John Walker — Google review
This is a very cheap and interesting attraction in the middle of Hawes based at the old train station. Kids under 16 are free to enter and there is plenty for them to do especially in the old train carriages that are still sat on the track. Well worth a visit
Luke Portlock — Google review
Great place of learning and interest, even has dry stone walling sessions run by volunteers. Remember to visit the train carriages out the back which contain terrific exhibits of times long gone. Pay and display car parking ( coins, not an app), present part of ticket for reduction on admittance. Recommend to all.
pego flat — Google review
Fantastic place, a real history lesson of the Yorkshire Dales. We visited on a rainy Saturday during the school summer holidays, not busy at all. Loads of things for the kids to do and adults alike. We'll worth a visit, kids free and adults less than a fiver!
Jez Mills — Google review
Great little museum with a good range of exhibits collected around the Dales, about rural life in the Dales. The collection includes a tin smiths workshop, a clog maker, cheese and dairy, as well as a small mining exhibit. Out in the railway carriage is more small exhibits on schools, and community life. Good for an hour on a wet day in Hawes. You get part of your carparking refunded for your entry fee. Small café on site.
Jane S. — Google review
Attended the Cry of the Curlew exhibition- a great way to raise awareness of the plight of this lovely wader. And the museum was really interesting with regards to culture, crafts, geography, geology, archaeology and life in the Dales. The exhibits were displayed well with good explanations. There is also a very pleasant shop offering a variety of goods and the cafe offers very good coffee a cake. Really enjoyed spending a morning here.
Claire Hill — Google review
Spent the morning here, very informative and interesting. Worth noting, if you're members of the Caravan and Motorhome club, you're entitled to a discount on entering.
colin paine — Google review
The museum has an outdoor train ( 1960 )and indoor simulations boasting of Dales Yorkshire makers, weavers, miners, community and their beautiful yet incomprehensive dialect. I love how the Dialect section has a telephone booth, with some original recorded conversations that give you a fair idea of how ppl spoke around that time, even discovered some lovely knit SHREK soft toys. The train outside had beautiful workshop for Christmas activities done by kids. Apart from that it was nice to see the mining & weaving history, the museum caretakers were really sweet, she even saved a piano, decades old from the early times, I wish there was some cheese to take home as well :/
Shweta_3D DIVA — Google review
Lovely to taste the cheeses before buying. Bought 3 different cheeses and all taste wonderful. Staff very helpful explaining what food and wine complaints each cheese.
Susan Hall — Google review
Interesting Museum housed in part in an old train carriage which was a nice surprise. Plenty of info and exhibits from the local area. Car parking available but charges apply. You do get a discount on the entry fee when you pay to park. Gift shop and cafe on site. We didn't have children with us but there are lots of activities in the museum to keep children entertained. A very enjoyable visit.

The Wensleydale Creamery is a cheese factory where visitors can learn about the history of the cheese and see it being made. It is also home to the world famous Wensleydale Cheese.
Open 10am-3pm at £4.45 for adults, no need to book, plentiful free parking. Payment gains admittance to a cheese making demonstration and history museum, and an activities room and viewing window housed in a separate building. We enjoyed learning the history of cheese in general and of Wensleydale cheese in particular. Great value for money.
Matthew Hurst — Google review
We stumbled upon this place on our drive through the Dales, and glad we did. We sat for a slightly late lunch. The staff work very hard here as it's clearly a very popular spot for locals and visitors alike. We were seated withing a few short minutes of arriving. The service was friendly and prompt. The views from the back of the dining area are quite spectacular. The food was exactly what it said on the menu. Great choices on the menu, and quite reasonably priced. The chilled room on the side offering not only cheese tasters, but also a vast selection of the cheeses available from the creamery. Along with preserves, crackers and more. The shop offers a wide range of items. From bottles of local liquors, Ice-creams, and all sorts of farm based & Wensleydale products...... We had a great experience here. We would love to return and do the tour. Will definitely recommend to adult and child alike.

Great place to visit when it’s raining. We did the experience tour, where we learn about cheese making. It was really interesting. Then visited a small museum where you learn facts about cheese. It’s really great for kids also the way they have done it. Followed by cheese tasting ( the best part). You can then go back to the shop which is quite big. And a dedicated area for cheese to taste and buy. They a cafe and toilets. They have free car park on-site. I will recommend as a day out. Only disappointment was when going to pay my shopping the cashier was not so friendly it felt rushed like she wanted to get rid of us, not nice customer service when you spend money local.
Elodie SALOM — Google review
About an hour's worth without the cheese making demo. compact visitor experience overall, children area nicely done including Wallace and Gromit set up. No tasting samples the day we were there. The Shop and cafe were well stocked.

Really amazing place. Full creamery tours, gift shop stacked with local businesses & the cheese shop has every cheese available to taste. Very worth the visit. The restaurant & cafe have a good choice of food & drinks. Really worth the visit!

Brilliant demonstration very informative and visual which helps a lot for some people. Really enjoyed the cheese tasting and found a new favourite cheese 🧀 Wensleydale with pineapple 🍍 😋 be warned you may spend too much in the cheese shop 😍 we did !

Free parking on site! Great shop, clean toilets lovely cafe and separate restaurant. Outdoor seating for the cafe. Toilets were clean and the staff were amazing. Is it a little cramped in the gift shop if you have a wheelchair or pushchair. The museum and factory tour are very good value - lots of stuff to interact with and it is all very well maintained - great for little fingers as well as adult ones! The cheese demo was brilliant too - the only downside to the visit was that we went on a Saturday so the factory was closed. We could still see the machines and stuff but we didn't get to see them in action. Still enjoyed it though. The ice cream is gorgeous - make sure you properly treat yourself and get two scoops! I can highly recommend the black cherry with chocolate.

Absolutely love this place! My whole family has been coming here for years and I will continue to do so with my own. Fantastic alone to visit the Cheese Shop, but extra special to go visit the rest of the creamery and see what else they have to offer, fantastic for kids! Love, love, love the cheese!!!
Megan Procter — Google review
Interesting place to visit. Tells the history of cheese making in this area with exhibits and live demonstration. The gentleman who did the demo when we visited was knowledgeable and engaging and I found it very enjoyable to watch. There is a cafe and gift shop as well as a cheese shop. Taste testing is allowed. We were lucky enough to see some Morris dancers on the day we visited too.
Claire Louise — Google review
I love cheese and this was definitely the place to be!! My husband and I went over the bank holiday weekend and it was busy but manageable :) There are two sections in which you can get free cheese tastings - one in the store and the other in the museum section (which you have to pay for but it includes a live demonstration on how Wendsleydale cheese is made). There is, of course, Wallace and Grommit merch and a whole mini section dedicated to them in the museum. It is also very family friendly. For lunch we went to the coffee shop and the only critique I have is that the cafe itself is a decent size but for the crowds there, there was a giant queue for over an hour and so I'm surprised they didn't open the restaurant (currently undergoing some renovations so it is closed) for overflow seating. However lunch had a good selection to cater to everyone and the blue cheese scones were almost the size of my face! I got one to go for £3 and I wish they sold them in the store! It was such a great time. Definitely a fun visit.
Amanda Williams McNair — Google review
Fascinating place to visit, well worth paying the extra to learn the history of the factory, it’s incredible staff and sit in and learn about how the cheese is made with a demonstration to boot. The viewing windows allow you to watch the process on the factory floor and the tasting area, well just make sure you eat before attending! The shop is fabulous and full of all sorts of gifts, drinks and the two cafes on site as well as the ice cream counter mean that everything is catered for. There are good, clean and accessible toilets and plenty of parking. Also lovely benches outside should you need a picnic place. Child friendly and a wonderful place to visit.

My wife and I went on a coach trip last year. Lovely scenery on the way. We had an interesting tour around the creamery. Fun and informative. We made a dash for the restaurant and pleased we did as they only catered for a certain amount of covers. The food was amazing and service first class. There is a cafe if you miss out.
Graham Hawkes — Google review
My favourite place in the UK. The most delicious menu I've ever experienced, with the most wonderful take-home items and the friendliest staff. I visit once a year and always leave smiling, no matter the weather. ❤️

I love cheese so Ideal place to visit Tim the guide was informative and entertaining Husband and dog had to wait outside but then went for lunch. Very nice if a little windy outside
Jan Tetley — Google review
Fantastic place! We're both cheese lovers so this was basically a pilgrimage!! Spent more time than was necessary in the tasting room but also paid for the demonstration and tour! Lovely gift shop and cafe too. Highly recommended.
Owain J Millard — Google review
Came here on a day excursion and spent an interesting two hours here. The visitor centre is only a short distance from the market square and has a large free car park. It's well signposted and all the buildings are wheelchair accessible. The staff were welcoming and friendly. Our visit to the Wensleydale Cheese Experience was pre-booked with a time slot. The man who did the cheesemaking demonstration was very knowledgeable, going through all the different stages of how cheese is hand crafted in the modern creamery. We then walked across to a little museum where we learned all about this place's fascinating history through artefacts and easy to read info boards, tasted a variety of Wensleydale cheeses and got to see inside the creamery itself from a viewing gallery. Lots of fun activities for kids and the opportunity to be photographed with Wallace and Gromit! The shop is a delight to browse around, full of beautiful homewares, pictures, stationery, books and much more. The cheese shop is also well worth visiting, not only for the cheese but also crackers, chutneys and a host of other foodie treats. Bought some cheese and a delicious Yorkshire fruit cake to take home. There's a restaurant and café which I didn't get time to visit, but I did treat myself to an ice-cream from the shop and ate it on a café terrace with a lovely view of the dales. All in all this was an enjoyable visit!
Valerie Hinchliffe — Google review
Lovely gift shop with a wide range of gifts and goodies. The cheese shop has free tasting, plus all things cheese-related. There is a viewing room where you can watch it being made. Now I am not actually a cheese lover 😲, but had a lovely mooch round and would definitely recommend a visit.

Fabulous New Years Day walk from the village of Appersett over to Cotterdale, down to Thwaite Bridge and back to Appersett. Bit wet and boggy is places but nothing too bad, weather was kind to us and no rain little blustery on the top This is a walk where you are not going to meet lots of people due to some of the climbs but the views are so worth it

The White Hart Inn is a relaxed establishment situated in a 16th-century structure. It offers complimentary breakfast and parking, as well as featuring a restaurant and bar. Positioned conveniently in the heart of Hawes, this charming village can easily be reached from Liverpool for an enjoyable day out. The inn provides an upscale dining experience with attentive staff dressed in formal attire, and a diverse menu showcasing both local and international cuisine.
From the start all the staff were so welcoming and it felt like they couldn't do enough for you. We stayed for 2 nights and the rooms were spacious and beds comfortable. Dinner in the restaurant was spot on, good food, beer and a nice roaring fire. If we are up this way again I would 100% stay here and recommend anyone else to do the same.

A little stop off for a meal with my wife at the White Hart Inn. We checked out the reviews which looked great and gave it a try. We were not disappointed. If you’re passing through Hawes then this place is well worth a stop off for food. Some of the tastiest and well cooked food out there. Staff are friendly and helpful. Dogs are welcome.

Excellent food. We had the lambs liver and it was extremely tasty. We then shared the rhubarb trio (crumble & real custard & ice cream & flan). Superb - tastiest pudding ever and definitely enough for two.

We visited two years ago and were keen to go back as we'd enjoyed fantastic food and service. Every time we've visited Hawes since, we've been unable to get a table, so we were really looking forward to our visit this time, as we'd booked well in advance. However, we were really disappointed. The food was average and not very hot as it was served on cold plates. The serving staff gave the impression they weren't terribly interested in the customers. We had to go to the bar and request additional condiments, then again when we wanted a dessert menu. The dessert choice was a bit too pretentious for our liking. We don't mind something a bit different, but it should be balanced with a few staple desserts. Even a French restaurant we frequent in York acknowledges sticky toffee pudding is a good seller! Maybe we just dined on an off night. We do enjoy regular visits to Hawes, but this experience means we're unlikely to eat here again.

My wife and I popped into the White Hart today for lunch and a mini celebratory drink after completing the purchase of a holiday property just over the road on The Hill. We received a wonderful welcome from the two ladies who served us and made such a fuss of our lovely dog Dexter. We had a very tasty lunch which was served quickly and are delighted to say that the White Hart will be our 1st recommendation to the guests who stay in our cottage. We look forward to calling in again soon!

Super pub with great wines & beer. Staff were really lovely and went out of their way to make my husbands meal as gluten free as possible with 2 delicious GF rolls stuffed with juicy pulled beef with onion gravy. My steak and ale pie was packed with tender steak and fabulous chunky chips! Highly recommend - wish we had a local like this! We will be back!

Popped in for a pint with the family after a lovely walk, friendly staff and good selection of beers. Beer garden wasn’t open at the time. We set out the front, would’ve been nice to have been able to sit in the beer garden but may do with outside in the sun.

We had lunch here. The service is good and there is a fair selection of beers and other drinks. We ordered a ploughman's lunch each. It arrived nicely presented on a slate but it was a bit frugal for the price. We demolished it as we were hungry, but could probably have eaten it again. Not fantastic value for money. Nice staff though, thanks.

Had Sunday lunch here, huge portions, tasted great, great service. The triple roast was fantastic, and my brownie dessert was one of the best. My wife had the roast chicken, and couldn’t eat it all, still found room for most of a boozy Black Forest sundae, I the pleasure of helping on that one, and it was delicious.

Had a great evening meal here. Cooked by people who totally know what they’re doing. Staff were friendly and efficient. There’s a restaurant and a smaller bar area. Ate in the bar area which had same menu and same atmosphere. Loved it.

Genuinely nice atmosphere, service was very professional, the sort you would get in a restaurant not a pub. Very attentive and very courteous. Food was amazing on two occasions, never disappointed and positions were huge. I would recommend trying out their food if you are visiting Hawes for a meal. A little on the expensive side, but you do get good food. Dog friendly pub as well.

We enjoyed a delightful meal here after a long day of walking, grateful for the cosy pub atmosphere and friendly, attentive staff. We were greeted and served throughout our meal with warmth and humour and the food here was truly exceptional. I enjoyed the lamb, which was beautifully cooked to melt-in-the-mouth perfection, with the most gorgeous jus to accompany it (trust me - I could have drunk this on its own and been very happy haha). Every element on every plate at the table was thoroughly enjoyed, with plates practically licked clean by the end! My dairy-free sister was grateful for the selection of plant-based options, especially the desserts (the lemon posset was incredible!!) Would wholeheartedly recommend the White Hart to anyone staying in the area for a fabulous meal and some lovely walks to pair with a visit here too! Thank you.

"The Chippie" is a traditional fish and chip shop located in Hawes, offering a delightful menu of classic British fare. Visitors can enjoy high-quality fish, such as cod or haddock, served in crispy batter cooked in beef dripping. The establishment provides the option for takeaway or dining in and has received praise for its fresh and delicious offerings. Customers have highlighted the exceptional quality of the food, with crispy chips and flavorful battered fish.
I had the Chippie Special. Fish and chips, mushy peas, bread and butter with a pot of tea. Great value for money and the best fish I've tasted in a long time. Staff were polite and friendly.

Truthfully the best fish and chips I've had in years... I'm guessing it's down to cooking in beef dripping. The chips were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, fish had batter with fabulous crunch. Also has a lovely waitress who was exceptionally patient with our excitable children. Lovely traditional fish and chip shop. Should be treasured.

Had to put a review because you don't often get quality fish and chips such as these. We had cod and chips and large battered sausage with scraps, mushy peas and two bread buns. Everything was fresh, delicious and good quality. The service and people were very efficient and friendly. Will definitely be back and would highly recommend

We called for lunch on Friday 19 April. We both ordered the chippie special. They were the best fish and chips I have tasted in a long time and the fish was exceptionally tasty, nor did they skimp on the portions. The cafe itself is lovely and has lots of character. I highly recommend this place and if we decide to visit Hawes again then we will definitely return.

What can I say. In the restaurant, £12.50 for a massive fish, loads of chips, mushy peas or curry sauce, bread and butter, coffee or tea. Absolutely excellent on every front. I did intend taking a picture of the whole ensemble, but I'd eaten most of my meal before I realised!. Well worth a visit. There's a take out, too. Top notch.👍👍👍👍👍.

Picked a busy day to visit and therefore the queues were massive, but just looking at the fish n chips that passed us by was enough, and the smell of them freshly cooked was driving us mad. Decided we couldn’t wait and so was going to set off when a chap offered me a taste of his, delicious indeed and what a stunning place to enjoy them

Traditional Fish & Chip shop, takeaway or eat in, great quality fish, cod or haddock served in super crispy batter, fried in beef dripping
Chris Wildman — Google review
Wow. Simply perfect fish & chips. I think it could be the best I have ever had. Seriously.
Wayne Liptrot — Google review
Takeaway fish n chips, the chips were ok, not great but still ok, but the fish, first half was lovely and thick and soft, although way too much batter, the second half was like rubber and very thin, couldn’t actually eat it. Dogs had a sausage and enjoyed that though. It was packed, queue half way down the street and extremely slow service and the woman on the till wasn’t very friendly but was polite. I think they just couldn’t cope with the volume of people.

Very busy (a good sign!) But only had a 10 minute wait for a table. Fish and chips were lovely, had their 'special'. Service was good and price was good - what's not to like!

What can I say , the perfect chip shop. Quality, quantity, freshness, choice. I shared a battered Cumberland sausage and chips , my wife had cod and 1/2 a portion of chips ( what a superb idea) You can also get scraps !! Heaven .. Well done the chippie. Some of the est I've ever had .

Nice simple food at good prices, freshly cooked and served promptly. Helpful and friendly staff. Sadly, no vegetarian options available, which is a bit unusual and short sighted these days, but we'll be back anyway. Nice clean toilets.
Mark Broughton — Google review
Best fish and chips we've had in years! Fast service and reasonably priced - slight quibble - it's card payment only but otherwise highly recommended. Give them a try if you visit Hawes, you won't be disappointed! 😊

Gorgeous Fish & Chip shop if you are just passing through or staying in the area. We will certainly be paying a visit again next time we are in the area. Highly recommend.

Just passing and feeling hungry so went in. Takeaway section separate to cafe section. Nice nautical decor. Staff friendly and food very good. The deep fried Wednesleydale was lovely. Very generous portions and good value for money.

Will definitely be calling in again when we next visit Hawes. The fish and chips were delicious, my brother inlaw really enjoyed his steak pie and chips 👍

Cafe
Penny Garth Cafe is a fantastic spot to indulge in delicious food and beverages. This biker-friendly establishment attracts a steady stream of patrons, especially on Sundays, throughout the year. In the summer, road bikers flock here while during the winter months, it's popular among enduro bikers. The prices are reasonable and the food is delectable. The overall atmosphere is vibrant and welcoming.
Great place to stop for a hot brew and nice food. Biker friendly cafe that gets busy especially on a Sunday all year round. Road bikers in the summer and loads of enduro bikes in the winter. Reasonably priced and tasty food. Generally just a good vibe...👍

Discovered by chance but we'll be back when next anywhere near. Top quality food, well cooked and presented. About a dozen "mature" bikers came in but the cafe is obviously used to dealing with a rush and all were happy. Great place, highly recommended.

Great bikers cafe serving good quality food. Very busy in summer. Well worth a visit if you're in Hawes. Was quiet today but we did have storms, hailstones and flooded roads. We arrived there dripping and leaving puddles thankful for the lovely food, friendly service and warmth

Lush little cafe. Good value, great portions and very tasty. Was quite busy when we came in but the atmosphere was very quiet, guess everyone was still waking up!

Great bacon buttie and mug of tea. Everything clean and efficient. We would have come every day but it was shut for the rest of the week. Eat here if you can. Just seen the reply and have edited my review. Hope everyone feels better soon.

Great cafe at end of village. Had just finished a walk with friends. Had a lovely veggy burger with chips. Good value for money. We were there before 2pm on a Sunday when it was quiet but apparently it can get busy. Popular with bikers.

An old fashioned cafe, very popular and great ☺ service. Yorkshire portions from what we could see and clean plates. We only had coffee ☕ which was OK
Colin Taylor — Google review
Probably the best cafe in Hawes . Called in on a mad hot day. While people were basking in the heat outside we enjoyed the air con inside. We wanted a cold drink - they had a good selection of cold cans served in a glass with ice, a big plus for us. We didn’t eat as we’d already had food. However, I noticed that the food coming out looked appetising and large portions. Next time we visit Hawes we will have no hesitation in visiting and eating at this cafe.

Delicious breakfast baps with quality local produce it seemed. The freshest flavoursome eggs and bacon for some time. Pretty good coffee. Shame not dog friendly but room outside in dry weather.

Outstanding value for money generous portions all home cooking meals bad news if your a wieght watcher biker or rambler. All this for only £15.00 large all day breakfast, large milky coffee, 6 rashers of crispy bacon bun, pot of tea for two, bowl of chips

I hadn't been there for over 2 years because of a family tragedy. I was with a couple of friends who both enjoyed their first visit to Penny Garth. I had double egg, chips, beans and two slices of bread. The meal was delicious and plentiful. Thank you all and a very happy new year.

Lovely place to eat, lovely staff, amazing location! However, even if you’re not in any rush at all you might be disheartened by the urgency. The Royal Mail deliver faster.

Pub
The Crown is a popular village pub, with classic bar fare and simple rooms. It offers free full breakfast and Wi-Fi. The beer gardens offer fantastic views, and the pub is well known for its friendly atmosphere.
We visited here a few times whilst staying in Hawes. They serve a great pint of Old Peculiar and are dog friendly. The landlady and staff gave a genuine welcome. On one visit we had a meal which was very nice, reasonably priced and the portions large. Be aware that the kitchen isn’t open all the time so check first.

We visited Hawes today, lovely place. Had lunch in the crown which was nice simple pub grub, reasonably priced. The staff were really friendly and welcoming. Only downside is that the place really needs a makeover, it could be so lively but looked tired and run down.

Staff excellent. Nothing too much trouble & the way my wife was looked after for her birthday was above & beyond. Please go see. Great staff. Great beer & great food. Can't comment on the rooms as we haven't stayed. We will be calling again next time we visit Hawes.

Awesome pub. Saturday night live music. Sunday roast dinner. Nice drinks. Staff were really friendly. Would visit again when back in the area.
Anyo Nes Mirked — Google review
Went in for a drink, but it was evident that because we were not dining, the landlord gave the impression that we had just been scraped of his shoe, bland and over priced, few other pubs in village far better.
Gary Spooner — Google review
Storm force winds and driving rain down the valley, caused us to interrupt our Sunday morning walk. A warm welcome awaited, and our two wet dogs caused no consternation at all. What more could we want - a hot radiator and great fresh coffee - all delivered with a smile! We loved it, and Henry VIII would have been proud!

Had one of the best Sunday dinners. Choice of different meats. Took chicken, came with mash roast, parsnips, carrots, red cabbage and green beans. Yorkshire pud and gravy of cpurse!! Ordered cauliflower cheese as an extra. The whole meal really was delicious and plenty of it too. Would def go back there when visiting the area. Staff super friendly too.

Visited for the first time on a Friday. Nice cocktails and food for a reasonable price. Good portion sizes. Would recommend the pork belly and beef lasagne. Friendly staff and they brought our food and drinks to our table outside on the decking. Plenty of seating.

Great! 🥳 delicious food, nice atmosphere and the staff were lovely ☺️ we were made to feel really welcome from the start- we especially loved learning about local beers! 🍺 Thank you, we’ll be back!

Visited for Sunday Roast. Unfortunately was near end of service and chicken and beef had sold out, however everyone enjoyed the pork. Generous portions and nice traditional pub atmosphere. Only slight negative is food was over salty.
Christopher Hill — Google review
Food was OK,, the pub lacked any atmosphere . They had no orange juice, or decaf coffee. This was an old haunt of ours some years ago, and we used to loved it. Quite disappointing 😞

Really impressed. Friendly, welcoming staff in a cosy, rustic dining area. Good selection of wines and soft drinks. Food was delicious. We went for dinner and got a table, no problem. We had yummy fish and chips and a particularly tasty chicken ceasar salad. Will definitely return if we're visiting here this part of Yorkshire again.

A lovely old stone-built inn located in the busy marketplace. I stopped off here for lunch on my way to the Wensleydale Creamery. There are outside tables in front of the pub and a beer garden at the back, but I ate my meal in the cosy and rustic bar lounge with its traditional wooden furniture, and historic quotations and old photographs on the walls. The bar staff were hospitable and friendly, and although the restaurant area was busy, I did not have to wait long to be served. Good choice of Yorkshire ales, and they also do cocktails. There was a nice selection of homemade pub meals on the lunch menu including burgers, sandwiches, wraps and a couple of mains. Opted for the chicken fajita with peppers, onions and a spicy sauce, served with tasty dressed salad, tortilla chips, sour cream and guacamole. Very flavoursome indeed, and the portions were generous. The blackberry and lemonade made a refreshing accompaniment to the spicy food. Overall a really enjoyable meal and not expensive either. Would recommend.

They have Old Peculiar on tap and a great Yorkshire pudding! Highly recommend stopping by after a hike through the dales. The front patio is the most obvious seating choice but there is a beer garden out back that is away from the noise and bustle of the main road.

Popped in for a cuppa and to use the loo. Facilities well equipped and spotless. Came back later for more tea and cake which we'd eyeballed on our earlier visit. It was delicious and worth the price 😋

Stopped off on our way up north, asked for sausage and egg with cheese, was sternly told by waitress "that we can only have what's listed on the menu" ... hmmm ok, that's the rules apparently ... not allowed any cheese !!! Not like we asked for caviar ..

Amazing lady served us but her boss was not very helpful she was taking one table order then ignored us. The lovely little lady was running around like a headless chicken while the boss was sitting with friends .food very good and a good selection to the owner you have a gem of a waitress you need to help your overworked staff.

Not the greatest dining experience we've ever had, stopped off on the way to the lakes and wished we hadn't. Tables were dirty and the whole place felt a bit sad - we'd intended to have lunch but it rather killed our appetites so settled for coffee and a piece of cake as a quick and safe option. This was the second place we'd looked at in Hawes and despite my comments was actually the better of the two. They seemed to be doing good trade anyway and obviously had support of some regular locals so hopefully we were just unlucky but we won't be going back to find out.

Such a lovely homely cafe! Brilliant coffee, food was delicious and home made. Value for money was excellent, and to top it all, dog welcoming! Best cafe I've visited in a long while

Lovely little place with excellent coffee and cakes. Very impressed with the young waitress who had infinite patience and empathy with a customer that needed assistance cutting up her sandwich, managing her teapot and offering her smaller portions when asked about cake. Fantastic service 😄
