Chinchon

Chinchón is a town, southeast of Madrid, in central Spain. It’s known for its hilltop houses and medieval Plaza Mayor, circled by buildings with wooden balconies. The Torre del Reloj (Clock Tower) is all that remains of the 14th-century Nuestra Señora de Gracia Church. Museo Etnológico La Posada houses traditional farming tools and machinery. To the south are the remains of the 15th-century Castillo de los Condes.

(Translated by Google) The Casa de la Cadena, in the Madrid town of Chinchón, is a 17th century building with a Baroque architectural style. Until recently it was very deteriorated, but when it was acquired in 2009 by the Chinchón City Council it has been rehabilitated to house municipal offices. The house, which currently cannot be visited, has three floors, the first two of masonry and the upper one built of brick. The chain that appears in front of the main door, and which gives its name to the house, is evidence that a main character stayed here, specifically King Philip V who slept in this mansion on the night of February 25, 1706, in full War of Succession.

Located between the Clock Tower and the Church of Lady of the Assumption, there stands a significant theater in Chinchon. This venue holds great importance for the town as it marked the beginning of one renowned artist's career. Jose Sacristan, an acclaimed actor who has received honors such as the Goya Award and two Silver Shells from San Sebastian Film Festival, attributes his positive introduction to acting to this very theater.

(Translated by Google) The Lope de Vega Theater was built by the Society of Harvesters in 1891 on the ruins of the old palace of the Counts of Chinchón, destroyed during the War of the Spanish Succession. The name of this author was given because the old palace was the place where he wrote and signed on 08/20/1599, while he was staying with the Counts of Chinchón, the comedy "El Blasón de los Chaves de Villalba". Its facade is Renaissance and the interior is reminiscent of an old corrala. It has a capacity of 400 spectators, highlighting its curtain, with views and allegories of the city, made by the painter Luis Muriel. As a curiosity, in the chicken coop of this theater, back in 1943, a boy from Chinchón saw his first movie and dreamed of being an actor. That boy's name was José Sacristán. We went on a Friday in November and it was closed, so we couldn't visit its interior, which lowers our rating. Restaurante La Villa is an enduring establishment known for its delectable fried shrimp and classic Spanish tapas. Guests can also enjoy the stunning Plaza views from its terrace. For an authentic gastronomic experience, one can indulge in the specialized suckling pig at La Casa del Pregonero or savor traditional cuisine at Restaurante La Villa. (Translated by Google) We entered the place because of the good reviews on the internet but we found it very disappointing. Especially if you work with dirty oil…all fryer preparations will leave something to be desired. We ordered the gabardina prawns (their specialty) because 10 mini prawns with a tempura that was true in flavor, but due to the state of the oil, it clouded the dish. Since they all had black dots and remains of burnt bread stuck to the tempura. Fried cod, good quantity and was juicy, but again the frying problem makes the dish very weak. Finally, an entrecôte, we ordered it rare, but the reality is that it was not even well marked, the meat was completely raw inside, it had not even been given the heat of the grill, so the meat inside was chewy and completely cold. On the other hand, slow service between courses. Of course, the waitress who served us was very friendly. It's a shame that they didn't even ask us how everything was going, my idea was to convey it to you in person, but there was no way, so here I leave my review. I hope it was a bad day and that this review helps you improve. The hotel is amazing, so beautiful with every attention to detail to make the rooms beautiful and comfortable. The staff were fabulous, nothing was too much trouble and they all spoke English! The breakfasts were delicious, so much choice and the scrambled eggs were fantastic. We paid to park in the underground car park but you could have parked on the streets further up from the hotel, or near the castle. As you enter the village you will find classical architecture in a beautiful setting. In the middle of this place is the restaurant Cuevas del Vino. This place is historic and full of interesting things to see. Before we sat down to eat, we walked through the many rooms of the restaurant, all the way down to a small bar in a cave. We went back up and had some classic dishes and wine served from a little bag made out of pig's skin. It was a great experience and definitely a place to add to your restaurant experience in central Spain.

(Translated by Google) Good experience in this legendary restaurant, frequented by famous people. We had a confusion since they force you to consume a first and a second per person, but by not specifying it at the time of booking they allowed us not to comply with that unknown rule. We tried a wide number of starters, highlighting the meat pate, the migas, the blood sausage and the garlic garlic (they were very good). For the main course we tried the roast lamb with a delicious potato garnish and the steak which was deliciously rare. The service was correct although we had some problem with the drinks that were brought without ice and this was later brought on a plate. The place is very good since it has history and a very large space.

The environment is good, but not worth considering the the service and food. Even getting the wine took very long. The food was regular and the salmon size was less than enough especially considering the price. The cochinillo was quite good. The high moment was realizing they were charging for a bread that was probably 3 days old.

(Translated by Google) You have to try to book before you go or you may be on a waiting list for a while. We went to the bar to kill time and ordered the ham croquettes to make us hungry; out of 10, very very rich. Then we ordered the wine bottle and two portions of suckling pig. The leg part was a bit dry and two portions for two was a lot of food, they were quite filling dishes. The overall experience is very good.

Great ambiance and service with a smile. A must see if in Spain. Found a picture of Cantinflas there. He visited in 1979.

Interesante. Miy interesante. (Translated by Google) Interesting. Very prepared for mass tourism. What we ate (potato omelet and oxtail) was excellent. Brief but good wine list. The coffee is very bad, even cold. A little expensive for what we ate, but recommendable to go. Don't miss visiting the caves. Very interesting.

(Translated by Google) The food was delicious, but what makes this restaurant so striking and interesting is the atmosphere and the history it has. The dining room and surrounding areas make you feel welcome and you may even feel like you've stepped back in time to when they made wine in the winery. The museum is impressive and I think they do guided tours, but if not, you have the history that you can read along the way (which if you are claustrophobic, I recommend that you do not enter since it is quite deep and closed) There aren't many options for young children to eat. If your little one doesn't eat what you would normally eat, bring him his own food.

Muy recomendado ☺️ (Translated by Google) One of the most charming places I have ever been. The restaurant itself is huge and has tons of staff wearing vintage clothing to put you more in the mood. We made a reservation here for Saturday lunch, this was actually our third choice but it came out amazing. Waiters really friendly and helpful. The food very good we did not take the menu but took from the cart see my pictures. It was all very nice. After the lunch we went to see the caves which is very nice and enjoyed the whole place a lot. Would recommended this a when your visiting Chinchon. I ordered at the end a chinchon anis which they didn't charge on the bill when I told them they said was from the house nice detail.

(Translated by Google) The food was very good, at least my delivery, because my partner's was not good and they were asked to cook the meat a little more and that was not the case. Bad service, average atmosphere. Plus point, exploring the caves is a very nice experience.

Very historical and well preserved place. It is not a typical tourist restaurant or site.... this is a « bodega » from the XVIII century, extremely well preserved, that reflects how were the towns in Madrid. You will be transported in time.... the servers are dressed up also of that period. José Luis our server was very nice and friendly... and very important to visit the « Cuevas » caves with the big huge barrels... you will feel that time had stopped... Enjoy your visit!

Restaurante La Casa del Pregonero offers a unique and creative take on traditional Spanish cuisine, serving innovative versions of classic steaks and salads. Guests can enjoy their meals at outdoor tables while sipping on cava or wine. Tucked away behind the bar, there is a beautiful private terrace with a retractable roof, providing a charming setting for dining. The restaurant specializes in suckling pig and offers an array of dishes that feature interesting flavors and unique twists.
Stopped in for lunch and were a little early, bar opens at 11a but dining room not until 1:30p. Staff was great and sat for a glass of wine until the kitchen opened. Food was wonderful, the room is nicely shaded and cooled and was wonderful in every respect.

Hidden away on the plaza, you wouldn't even know it was there. Beautiful private terrace through the back of the bar, such a lovely setting with a retractable roof. The food and service was 5* for the whole evening, such interesting flavours and different twists on dishes. Can't wait to go again and try some of the other dishes on the menu because everything looks amazing. 😍

Some of the plates seemed a bit old, had fractures (I don't know the right word in English). But other than that, it was good :)

The food is good, aged beef steak is delicious but the meat was raw and even cold in the inside, we had to ask servers to take it back and cook it more (and the table next to us did the same) so I would recommend to ask at least medium. Cheeses are too strong, so if you like aged cheese that's a must, but if you don't like strong cheese you may want to ask for something else.

The service was very attentive, and the decor of the patio was lovely. The food was nothing special, although it tried to be. The cheesecake seemed curdled and doughy rather than creamy, and the flavour just tasted of sugar. It was also sitting in a puddle water. For me ranks as one of the worst cheesecakes I’ve had. I had the leeks with some kind of ham crumb and the garlic soup with the egg. The soup was very salty and a strange texture, and very hot, while the egg inside was cold. The leeks were simply grilled, and they were presented in a basket (very unhygienic, these things are impossible to wash). The sauce they came with was also nothing special, and overall difficult to eat. The prices would have been fine if the dishes had lived up to their mouthwatering description in the menu.

A very pretty place in the center of the town, in Plaza Mayor, with very good food, a mix of typical and modern food. One of my favourite!

The inner terrace is a beautiful place, and the food is of excellent quality with elaborated, delicious dishes. Still price is similar to the surrounding alternatives.

(Translated by Google) Badly or overcooked, poorly seasoned, lack of taste, lack of professionalism from the kitchen to the coffee which is among the worst I have ever drunk in my short life. Honestly, putting out such poorly executed dishes should be banned. The value for money is therefore very poor. I would say to management: if you don't like people, you shouldn't be a restaurateur!!! It's just a question of respect. It’s worth two stars, one of which was earned thanks to the kindness of the maître d’ and his thoughtfulness, but that’s not enough… the food is too poor quality for the price! On the other hand, those who give 4 or 5 stars must urgently review their standards. This is not an experience that I recommend, especially if you are a gourmet. I'm sorry for the room staff who are very friendly.

Mesón de la Virreina consistently delivers exquisite cuisine, particularly when it comes to their beef and cochinillo dishes. This traditional establishment has a vintage charm and offers a delectable selection of food and beverages. It never fails to impress patrons with its delicious fare.
Great service, amazing experience, cozy atmosphere. Totally recommend 'rabo de toro' and the cheesecake.

This place is probably the worst restaurant in chinchón. Neither was the food delicious nor the service barely acceptable. They take 10% extra for just sitting on their narrow balcony. Just to give you an example of how bad this place is...just have a glance at this wonderful pillow, I had to sit on. And when it comes to the food, the next day, I had to run constantly to the toilet. As you have presumably noticed, I do NOT recommend this place.
