Bydand is a standout restaurant in Thurso, offering a simple yet diverse menu with well-presented and flavorful meals. While it may be on the pricier side, the dining experience is definitely worth it. The attentive service and exceptional food make it a top choice for visitors, with highlights such as smoked salmon, shredded beef, and delightful desserts.
An amazing meal with brilliant, friendly service and very reasonably priced. The only fault I can find with it is that it's 650 miles away from home!! Will definitely visit here again when we're back up.

Really talented cooking. Beautifully cooked and presented fish, and beef. Friendly, professional service. Great value for this standard of food and cooking. A really great find.

Had a great dinner for two here, a simple and compact menu with plenty to choose from. The meals are very well presented and have amazing flavours. It’s something different from your casual restaurant, that makes it stand out from others in Thurso. Although a bit on the expensive side, a definite recommendation to have your dinner here.

Great value for money, booked in advance. Every detail of the meal was great quality and cooked to perfection. The best meal I had on my motorcycle tour around the NC767 plus Skye

What a great little find. Top notch food and wine with a great couple running it. Really friendly place. Veg risotto starter was lovely but the highlight was the buttery tatties with beef. Beautiful. We will certainly be back.

Just wow! Pre-booked our table as only in Thurso one night & so glad we booked here. From the moment we arrived until we left the service & food was exceptional. Attentive, pleasant staff, not rushed, delicious variety of food to choose from, definitely worth a visit - thank you

Bydand Restaurant was absolutely wonderful. Both the starter and main was delicious and the service was excellent. I highly recommend this stop. My wife and I went for our honeymoon and they made us a special dessert plate. I would recommend the beef, it was the best I’ve had in Scotland.

The place is elegant in its own way, with the right care about design and space. The waiters were always nice and kind. This usually is a good start. I also appreciated the "short menu" (long menus are usually a bad sign). The main problem was the food; the salmon was boiled and the presentation wasn't pleasant (sometimes less is more). The pasta was a complete disaster: wrong recipe, wrong kind of pasta and way overcooked. And on top of the pasta, some kind of salad, that is a multiple mistake; even if we try to ignore the fact that in Italy no one put in the same dish pasta and salad, the heat of the pasta partially cooks the vegetables, giving a bitter taste and losing texture. To complete, it was served in the wrong dish type (there is a technical reason why that dish shouldn't be used for that kind of pasta). The desserts were tasteless, and using too much sugar to cover it was even worse. I can see there is an effort to offer something different, and I can appreciate the "inspiration" to a higher level of restaurant, but you couldn't afford it if you don't manage the basis. About the price; if they managed to prepare those dishes properly, the price could be right, but with this current level of quality sounded just as pretentious. In this case I'm really sorry to give lower rates, because I see the commitment in doing something good, and I would like to reward it, but I can't ignore what we have been served.

Great wee place - one of our favourite restaurants in the area. Bydand is a small, family run business in Thurso and has deservedly won awards for the quality of their food which is exceptional. Brian prepares and presents everything himself to a very high standard and Angela and the girls provide first class, friendly and efficient service. There's always something a bit different on the menu every visit and we have never been disappointed on numerous visits. Brian will also go above and beyond to cater for any dietary requests. Bydand provide excellent value for the quality and quantity of menu options. Highly recommended.

Brilliant meal hear with family tonight. Best meal 😋 ever . Fully recommend for a real treat

Outstanding food and service…the smoked salmon to start was incredible (smoked in house) followed by the shredded beef or local salmon…delicious! Deserts were also excellent, both the sticky toffee and délice! Nice wine list…overall a great experience

Possibly one of the best meals we have had and we've been to many many restaurants all over Europe. The service was very good. This is a must visit when you're up north.
Ricky Rowe — Google review
Highly highly recommend this restaurant along the NC500 route. It looks small and average from the outside but don’t let that fool you, the food is spectacular. The service is slow as there was only one lady servicing the entire restaurant, but well worth it. Scallops were one of the best we’ve had in Scotland, the pulled beef was so soft and tender, again one of the best we’ve had in Scotland! Make sure to book in advance !

During a brief stay in Thurso on a Sunday evening when many restaurants were closed, the discovery of Spice Tandoori, an Indian restaurant open until 10 pm, was a delightful surprise. The friendly and helpful staff took the time to explain the menu and make recommendations. The food was delicious with reasonable prices, making it highly recommended. Additionally, the restaurant's recent addition of a new carpet added to its overall appeal.
We were in Thurso only for one night on Sunday evening when most of restaurants are closed. Found this Indian restaurant open till late (10 pm). It was a good surprise. Lovely staff that took the time to explain us the menu and suggested what to order. Good food, welcoming people and good prices. More than recommended!

Had a nice take away on my first visit. Lady attending was very warm, helpful and chatty, with the food a memorable one. Will certainly return to the place anytime I'm in Thurso
Rotimi Adeyemi — Google review
This was bad! I paid online, then came to collect as despite saying it is on the website, delivery wasn't an option at checkout. The place was pretty gross and dirty when I walked, in which was the first red flag. The guy at the bar/reception area thing was super miserable, basically asked me what I wanted then went off to get my order. When I did get the food back home my starter was missing and the food I ordered was full of peas and sweetcorn which I can't eat (it didn't say it had either of these things in it on the menu). This isn't necessarily the end of the world, but if I had had a severe allergy it could have been dangerous. So I just didn't eat any of it. Which is lucky, because my wife did and she was then up all night and the next morning with diarrhea. Really wish I hadn't gone here, but so glad they messed up my order so I couldn't eat it. I just wish they'd messed my wife's order up too! Probably the worst takeaway experience I've ever had.

Haven't been for a while but was glad I did. The staff were attentive and friendly and the food was good. Loved the West Bengal local curry. It was very different to most currys and was a good change. I'm delighted to see the new carpet. The old one did need to go!

I cannot understand the many star reviews for this place, it is really terrible. First off the food is very poor. It is theoretical standard meat of choice + generic sauce from their supplier, microwaved up for a few minutes. Even the pickles with the poppadoms lacked taste and freshness. Nothing I saw served to us was cooked by a human, all was bought in pre prepared rubbish. So no stars for food. Service was by a young lady probably on her first ever shift, fine. But it was so rapid. 'Are you finished?' the moment after someone put their fork down. This is what she had been trained to do, and it sucks. The restaurant is upstairs and the toilets are downstairs, neither are terribly well looked after or nice. Thurso is a small town but surely someone can do better than this. I'll stick to fish and chips next time I'm in thurso, or ride on and find somewhere better.

We stopped in on our way back down to Inverness from Dunnet’s Head. The food was phenomenal with very large portions. The staff were incredibly friendly! I would highly recommend.

Serving up tasty, fresh food in Thurso. Slightly ratty in appearance, but the staff do a good job with their service.
Michelle Morgan — Google review
A little late review, but I made a point that I will write a review when I got a chance. Nothing stood out in our experience. The main person at the entrance had a very condescending tone. Not sure the guy only wanted to deal with locals or what. He was in a rush to get our order and make us sit aside when there was nobody behind us. The food was no where close to authentic or even good. Not sure why you need to put edible colors when Indian cuisine is already so colorful. Do not recommend this place at all.
Abhishek Chakravarty — Google review
We had a takeaway from here tonight and it was just unreal. Loads of food, including extras on the house. The food was full of flavour and big portions, not bulked out by vegetables but full of meat and paneer in the veggie dish. The best Indian food (balti) we have had in ages and we are from the Midlands.
Nikki Steer — Google review
Although i ordered the same as I do back in Newcastle it was pretty much different from the usual but really nice. I’d recommend trying here if you enjoy Indian cuisine Service was prompt but as I was the only person in the restaurant I couldn’t expect nowt else really 😅

Pride of Bengal Indian Restaurant and Takeaway is a surprising find with an unassuming exterior. Despite the initial lack of greeting, the food was impressive, offering very spicy dishes like Saag Aloo and Jalfrezi. Customers have consistently received timely deliveries from the takeaway service, while in-person experiences have been marked by efficient and friendly staff. The restaurant's interior may be unremarkable, but the top-notch service makes up for it.
Very nice restaurant with very friendly staff, we had Korma Sauce, chips and garlic nan, was really good :)

Being an Indian this is the best Indian Restaurant in Thurso. I have been in this restaurant many times now. It’s strange that they serve Biryani’s spice range by 1 - 10. 1 super mild and 10 super hot. I tried number 8 and it was fiery kick along with natural Biryani taste. Loved it. And the service is the best you can get.
Parmesh Madgundu — Google review
Found this nice Indian restaurant whilst working all the way up here and was pleasantly surprised. On first looks the restaurant looked old and dated , I walked in and no one was there to greet us and after shouting out "hello" 3 or 4 times someone came. We weren't expecting much after this but wow the food was very nice and very spicy which we like. The Naan was fresh , my Saag Aloo was really tasty and that was probably the most hot and spicy Jalfrezi I've had in Scotland. My work mate said his madras was also good and he loved the chicken pakoras. It's a very long way from my house but if I'm up here again I'll definitely come back! 👍🏻

Our go-to Indian takeaway, which we have ordered from countless times. Every order has been delivered in good time, by a friendly member of the team and we've never had items missing/incorrectly ordered. When picking up food, the staff have always been really friendly and efficient with their timings. The food is always lovely and still roasting hot when it arrives! Very happy regular customers :)

Not a local so one and only experience. Well and truly pleased with it. The restaurant itself isnt much to talk about could possibly do with a update. Service was top notch and cant fault it at all. Now the most important part....the food! Myself and my partner are well and truly impressed without a doubt the BEST Indian style food from a sit in indian restaurant we have had.

Decent food. I got a cheese pizza, which was greasy and the cheese like plastic. Also, don’t know what their food hygiene is like as there was what looked like chicken tikka sauce in my pizza, it was like bright red, definitely not tomato sauce. Wouldn’t go back
Sam March — Google review
Didn't call in advance, ordered at the counter and waited. Very quick short wait for my takeaway, the staff taking orders were very helpful, polite and generally great. Food was still nice and toasty hot by the time i got home despite being a 12 mile drive, the food was cooked beautifully, very fresh, very flavoursome, just brilliant, just what i needed for a friday night 👍

A lot of fish dishes on the menu - that's fine, personally I love it - but three of our party of six weren't so enamoured. Some dishes also feature on the menu in the Holborn bar next door and are cheaper there. It was a reasonable meal but there wasn't anything in particular that would make me say I was desperate to return.

Best Baked Potatoes we ever got served. Fish and Ships every pence was worth . Thank you for kind service. It was a nice experience and we can recommend it to visit this place.

Stayed in hotel attached & breakfast was included in rate. Local produce, freshly cooked to order, good selection of cereals, juices, etc. Recommend the haggis & black pudding, very tasty & not stodgy & was perfectly cooked.

Hands down the best dinner I ever had in the UK, with prices well below average. We Italians tend to be extra picky about food but this place has passed the test with full score 😀 I reccommend the cullen skink and the salmon with pancetta in particular.

With its outstanding American-themed breakfast, delicious food, and lovely staff, it offers an exceptional dining experience. The portions are generous and reasonably priced, with the milkshakes being particularly noteworthy. The charming American decor adds to the overall appeal of this quirky little place. Visitors can expect friendly customer service and a diverse menu that caters to various preferences.
Popped in here while passing through Thurso and the food was delicious! Huge portions for really good prices and the milkshake was absolutely unreal. Took some cookies to go and they were gorgeous too! Cute American decor and lovely staff :)

The food looked amazing. My experience on this occasion was a little disappointing. The place is really well put together and the staff are really friendly but the breakfast was not good. It took awhile, when it came out the egg was soft despite me asking for hard. However the milk shakes were fantastic and the staff were so friendly. Willing to give this another chance.
