Bodies of Water
The Königssee lake is a large, translucent body of water situated south of Berchtesgaden. It boasts stunning natural scenery, including steep mountain walls that enclose the lake's fjord-like depths. The lake is known for its exceptional purity, with drinkably clear waters that reflect emerald-green hues. Visitors have the opportunity to take a boat ride across the tranquil surface and explore two different routes around the area, each offering beautiful views and hiking opportunities.
This rift created during the ice age is a pleasure to watch. It is a must-visit place if you are in Germany. Rent the kayaking boat for an hour or two instead of a motorboat to explore the lake.

One of the best places for vacation. People can enjoy their holiday with family and friends. During summer time we can enjoy the sunshine and the gorgeous views. I will definitely go there again with my wife and kids.
Md.Ashraful Islam — Google review
Lovely lake and would enjoy it better when it’s sunny, can spend around 2-3 hours, you would get into a boat which cost around 22,50 euros per adult. In the middle of the boat you can hear echo when it’s all silent and a trumpet is blown after that they drop you to a small island and can spend around 1-1.5 hours by taking a stroll or visiting a small church and can eat in the cafe
Virendra M Patil — Google review
Went early in the morning and bought a boat ticket at 14 euro. At that time, we were unable to alight at the church but nonetheless, the boat tour was amazing! Especially when the boat went closer to the cliff and the staff blow the horn, which reverberated throughout the mountain and reflected back!
Xiang Qian — Google review
Absolutely gorgeous place, superb views of the mountains and lakes combined. There is a boat ride which will cost you 25 euro for adults and 12 euro for children. You can also carry your pet which will cost 4 euro but you have to put mask on the boat. There are some hotels available to stay near by lake and feel the peacefulness and natural beauty.
ashraf sirajee — Google review
Gorgeous place. Make sure to take the boat ride. They play trumpet and it echoes with the structure of the mountains. Truly one of the most moving events I have witnessed. 100% recommend.
Moni Gonz?lez — Google review
A must do if you stay in Salzburg take the one hour trip down. Taking the boat half way is good enough if you aren’t going to hike to the waterfall at the final stop and are on a time crunch. Lots of shops and places to eat but no grab and go options. Get there early or you will have a long wait to get on a boat especially if it’s a sunny day.
Kayla Burdick — Google review
Good place. Travel from Bad Reichenhall to Königssee is mesmerizing. Do take bus from Bad Reichenhall for the best view.
deepashree prabhu — Google review
No words to describe how beautiful it is. Take the boat to Salet. Walk over to Obersee, you can walk to the other side, but not suitable if you are not so mobile, as you have to hike / climb some "rock" stairs. It can be very slippery. It is about 40 min one way walk
Annie — Google review
One of the best lakes in Europe. One should visit this lake once if the that one is in Europe. Tip: Summer is the best time to go here.

The most beautiful lake of Germany is Konigsee! It’s around 4 hour by public transport from Munich. But if you wake up early enough, you can go for a day trip here.
Sucheta Sarkar — Google review
May 10,2023 good experience riding the boat, we went here late on the afternoon, out of time to discover more view, suggest to come here earlier so can go more view and place to walk. bring some food with you, im sure its a nice place to have picnic.
Ulrika — Google review
A beautiful lake , still with not so many people and shops around. A great walk, lookout, waterfalls. I liked that.
M. H. — Google review
Nice lake but very touristic and quite crowded on the weekend. There are many stalls in which you can grab something to eat or drink. Many souvenir shops. As we were traveling with a reactive dog, we didn't take a boat tour but rather walked around the lake. Found a nice spot from which you could see the lake, but it wasn't the best view.

Konigsee is a big lake nestled in the Bavarian Alps. The crystal-clear waters, lush greenery, and stunning mountain backdrop create a picture-perfect scene. Whether you’re taking a boat ride or hiking along the trails, every moment here is special. A must-visit destination for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike! We took a boat ride across to St Bartholomew’s chapel, and hiked up to the Ice Chapel. There is parking at the head of the lake, hotels, restaurants etc, and good transport connections.
Charlie Kinloch — Google review
Nice lake and very impressive but very touristic and quite crowded even we were there during the week (on Monday). We took the boat to another island and walked around the island. It took abt 30' to walk around the island.

Königsee is an absolute gem nestled in the heart of Bavaria's natural beauty! The emerald-green waters, surrounded by towering peaks, creates a mesmerizing spectacle. The boat ride across the lake offers a serene and awe-inspiring experience, allowing you to soak in the pristine landscape. Don't forget to visit the iconic St. Bartholomew's Church, a true architectural marvel. Königsee is a must-visit destination for nature lovers, photographers, and anyone seeking solace in the embrace of Mother Nature.

One of best places to visit in Germany. The lake is surrounded by mountains that provide breathtaking views of the lake. You can take ship or paddled boat to explore the lake.
Amran Hossain — Google review
One of the best views in Alps, absolutely worth seeing. Especially strongly recommend lake cruise. The trumpet melody played by the crew of ship among mountains was something really breathtaking.
Adam Sobczyk — Google review
A truly magnificent place in the world and a pride of Germany. It's magnificent, an incredible sight to witness! One of the nicest views in the Alps; highly recommended. I especially advise a lake cruise. The ship's crew performs a trumpet melody that is absolutely stunning as it passed through the mountains. Would love to go again.

Röthbach Waterfall is a stunning 470-meter cascade located in Berchtesgaden National Park. Accessible by boat trip and a rugged hike, it offers an impressive sight, especially early in the season before summer dries out the water. As Germany's highest waterfall, it provides a breathtaking view from the bottom, but climbing up requires some experience due to slippery rocks. The journey to the waterfall includes a wonderful electric boat ride and a hike with stunning views along the way.
Wonderful electric boat ride and hike even thought it was pouring the whole day. The 1.5 hour it should take us to get there was a little unrealistic. It took us well over two hours since all the rocks on the steep paths were really slippery. But the view along the way are simply stunning. Obersee is incredibly beautiful.
Gino Eising — Google review
Highest waterfall in Germany, absolutely gorgeous. Normally you can't get close to it, since there are no defined hiking pathways. However, it's possible to climb it, just at your own risk, preferably with/following someone.
Batman Frog — Google review
Hike for one hour aftr half hour boat trip to reach this amazing waterfall
saleh al ghamdi — Google review
Stunning place to visit. You need to be relatively fit to be able to visit this place. Wear walking shoes. Some areas can be quite slippery.
Sal Snook — Google review
The tallest waterfall in the Germany, it’s a nice waterfall which would be better with a little bit more water. The view from bottom is nice, but it’s worth to go up-but be aware that the way up&down is a little bit complicated and might be only for hikers with a little bit of experience, due to the slippery rocks from the waterfall water.
Petr Procházka — Google review
Spectacular waterfall and hike. Not suitable for very young children or buggies. Bring plenty of water and good shoes. Do t suggest flip flops!
Kyle Patel — Google review
Waterfall is much better from the distance then after a hike. Even after the walk, you cannot get close enough to it, the slope is very extreme, impossible to climb there. And the best thing you can see from the end point of the walk is forest waterfalls (like on my picture). So I recommend to stay at Obersee edge and do not walk more.
Oleg Kaynov — Google review
Gorgeous waterfall. Wonderful walk. Close up view of animals in the area too.
Mick Tan — Google review
Beautiful place. I did not go climb all the way in to the Waterfall because I am terrible at going back down, but even walking to the end of visible path rewards you with gorgeous views throughout. Worth the hike there!

Eiskapelle, also known as Ice Chapel, is a must-visit spot in Sankt Bartholoma. The hike to the chapel is relatively easy and takes around 15 minutes. However, some visitors have reported that it may take longer than indicated on the sign. The trail offers stunning views and leads to a beautiful natural cave that provides an incredible experience once inside.
One of the most beautiful natural places I've ever been to. This writeup is based on a early October visit - many of the other google reviews are over the top. As long as you're not over 60 and obese/disabled you can make it here. There were a few young kids at the cave when I went so you can make it too. Hiking shoes are not a must, walking/running shoes are fine as long as you just plan 1 step ahead in the scree field. Inside the cave is a incredible experience. If you visit too early in the year you can't go inside, September - October is the sweetspot. The cave branches into two paths and there are waterfalls at the back of both - just wear a raincoat for comfort as the ice is melting and water's constantly dripping down. My only regret is that I did not come with a better camera. What I did is not the safest but I will always recommend it from now on as it's a natural made highlight of Germany.
DDJ W — Google review
We did the hike on 8 Oct 2022. One might get a different experience depending on the season. Gorgeous views along the hike, but do not believe the sign that says 15 mins to the ice chapel (cave). From that sign, it took us about an hour to get to the cave itself. The first half of the trail from St Bartholomew's Church to the sign that says 15 minutes to the ice chapel is well marked and fairly well trodden. Proper hiking shoes are nevertheless recommended as leaves and stones may be slippery (it's not a paved road). However, the last hour or so leading to the ice chapel is totally unmarked, and for us, involved scrambling over rocks and boulders of varying sizes across an exposed gully. When we did the hike, there was no one else for miles around, and only the faint impression of footprints in the dust every now and then assured us that someone had been there before. The site felt ominously dangerous, and we didn't dare to make loud noises for fear of starting a rockfall. We saw another couple scrambling to the right of the gully along the scrub and vegetation towards the chapel, so whatever floats your boat. As we were reaching the cave, the dude from the aforementioned couple was just exiting. He spoke excitedly to me in German, which I failed to comprehend completely, but I concluded from his bright eyes and overall happiness that good things awaited. There was a small stream we needed to navigate to approach the chapel (thank you waterproof hiking shoes), and being inside the cave itself was a singularly surreal experience. Ice melt was constantly falling around us and it sounded like we were in the middle of a rainstorm. Our outer shell coat ended up soaked. As we exited the cave, we saw more people approaching. The path back again wasn't entirely straightforward, and we came across a dual language sign (which we totally missed on our initial approach) which warned of mortal danger ahead. To be honest, if we had seen the sign earlier, we might not have completed the hike. As it was though, it was a spectacular experience, and one went away with greater empathy for why trailblazing nature explorers do what they do. TLDR: first half well marked and relatively easy if uphill. Second half involves unmarked scrambling over rocks and navigation by sight only. Proper shoes and full mobility of all your joints necessary. Do not attempt in anything other than dry weather.
Too Xing Ji — Google review
Definitely worthwhile to explore! Remember to wear the hiking shoes.
Liu Chang — Google review
Good hiking experience to Eiskapelle. Hiking boots is a must! Adventure and fun begins when the trail stops halfway. Gotta find your own path to Eiskapelle. Do be careful too, as a rock the size of our head fell in front of us when we arrived at the glacier.
Julz JG — Google review
It is a perfect hike from the church. Moderate hike with stunning views. When you reach the kapelle, a wonderful peace and perfect place where you can chill and enjoy the beauty of nature. Water is fresh and cold. Definitely a must go place.
Diwas SHRESTHA — Google review
The view is worth the time spent hiking the steep path. After a point you have to make your way through the rocky path! Highly recommended!

Wonderful opportunity to see how river starts! You can go under snowhill, it's like cave in glaicer. You stay under rain from celling of cave in the glaicer and literary see the begginging of river - unforgettable emotions! BTW, it's comparable easy to reach - ferry from Berchtesgarden to St.Bartoloma, and then 1-1.5h of hiking to the Ice Chappel.
Natalia Kuznetsova — Google review
Beautiful hike. Good maintained trails most of the way up, some riverbed crossings could be challenging for some but should be manageable for most.
John Frye IV — Google review
Plenty of time and the sturdy shoes are necessary for this trip! We failed to reached the cave because of time limit to catch the boat since We started hiking about 14:40. There were three signages along the road: The first one was just near the church. The second one was at the end of the road( it took 40-45min for us to get the second signage) From the second signage, the road became gravel. After crossing the creek, we reached the third signage and saw the spectacular view. ( it took another 15-20 minutes to there) We could see the cave but the final route was unmarked and rugged with the risk of falling stones, especially in rainy days. Due to the consideration of time and uncertainty of the final route, we just returned back to St Bartholoma.q
Weiss Einfach — Google review
Unique attraction, the challenge getting to it and finding it makes it an adventure, there is actually both an ice chapel and an ice cave, both equally impressive in the surrounds. Challenging rock scramble, but stay low, follow close to the water and you’ll find both.

Alpine national park featuring numerous trails & the iconic lakeside Church of Saint Bartholomew.
I have been to many places in Germany but I can argue that Nationalpark Berchtesgaden is one of the most beautiful places, if not the most beautiful place, in Germany. Königssee is a banger with many hiking trails around. You can also climb the mountain Jenner which is also beautiful as well, which I did when it snowed! (Even better). Definitely a place that I would recommend to anyone to visit.

This is probably the best park I have ever visited! The nature is incredible 😍 The lake is very clear, lots of people were swimming there. The water seemed too cold for me (late August), but the view is really amazing! There is private parking next to it, boat rentals (12€ per hour) and hotels with restaurants 👍🏻 My recommendation! ❤️

Saint Bartholomew's Church is located in the midway to Königssee. This building adding more to the beauty of the area. An ancient building which gives a majestic look. St. Bartholomew's Church near Konigsee Lake is a hidden gem of architectural marvel and natural beauty. The church's stunning red onion-domed towers stand out against the backdrop of the majestic Bavarian Alps, creating a postcard-perfect scene. The interior is equally impressive, with intricate woodwork, ornate altars, and beautiful stained glass windows. The peaceful atmosphere inside the church is enhanced by the serene surroundings. Visitors can take a boat ride across the crystal-clear waters of Konigsee Lake to reach the church, adding to the sense of adventure and charm. It's a truly magical place that captures the essence of Bavaria's rich history and breathtaking landscapes

A beautiful church at Serene location with Alps and lake view. There are good walking trails and a restaurant for refreshment. Expect a crowd during peak season and on weekends. You may end up spending a long time in the queue for the return trip. It's a pleasure to visit either in Spring or in Autumn.

Gaststätte Echostüberl is a Bavarian tavern with a lakeside terrace, offering seasonal fish and winter fondue as well as schnitzel and beer. The picturesque location provides a breathtaking view of the landscape, making it an ideal spot to enjoy delicious meals. The biergarten's advantageous position on the other side of konigsee ensures less crowded surroundings compared to the entry path leading up to the lake.
Really good view from the restaurant and it is not as crowd as the Konigsee center. Also food’s taste were above average. With this good view expect to stay longer than you planned.

You are guaranteed a great view if you seat at their outdoor seating. Just be aware it gets chilly, unless it’s summer. Food was decent. Good portions at as reasonable prices you can get in touristy places. As usual in Germany, stick to beers for drinks. If you are a fellow tourist and want to try their local soda, try the cola - Afri cola. Parking is at a ridiculous fee of 8€ due to the parking being used for the tourists who wander at the lake.

I had read the negative reviews from guests about the staff not being polite/courteous, but I thought of giving it a try. The place has a good view, but staff can definitely be politer, particularly to non-German speaking guests. We requested to be seated outside, but despite all the area being empty and no reservation placards placed, the waitress shrugged and murmured something in German. She was speaking in English inside, but somehow chose to say something in German so that we do not understand. This is despite being apparent that we were English-speaking tourists with a bag and camera. Beer was ok, fries were decent. However, due to the lack of warmth, I wouldn't go there again.

The restaurant is in one of the best locations to relax.... right next to the lake from where ferries start. There were 3-4 vegetarian options and we ordered all 4 of them. To our pleasant surprise, by far, this is one of the very few restaurants in Europe where Vegetarian food was so wonderful. Curry rice was the best I had tasted in a long time! So far so that we thought of visiting this place again the next day. The staff were polite, welcoming and helpful. Price of the food is reasonable too. Parking near the place could be tricky as the parking space gets full quickly. Awesome location & an awesome food !

Picturesque location, good food and friendly service. The best part about this biergarten is the location- since it is located on the other side of königsee the crowd is lesser than the ones you will see at the entry path leading up to the lake. With nice weather, you can sit close to the fence overlooking the lake and the breathtaking view. The beer is good, food is delicious and prices are like in any other biergarten.

Also the beer and wine options are many! We took 2 pig snitchel with potatoes and 2 beers and we paid 38€ including tip. The price is very fair for the spot. Waldhauser Brau provides the perfect place to eat dinner after a long day outdoors. The restaurant has a cosy feel to it and the waitress is incredibly warm, friendly, and helpful. The food is good in this place. But the inside of the place is very old fashioned and very full (lot of tables). Ketchup and mayonaise is given in large tubes, which is not really acceptable in post-Covid times. You can pay with bankcard and cash. To enter, you need to use steps/stairs, so not very friendly for people with a disability of walking problems.

We arrived at the restaurant early on a Monday and we were told by the waitress to look for a table in the larger of the restaurant's two dining rooms. Only two of the about 25 tables were taken and 2 more were reserved so we easily picked a table and sat down. The menu looked good with many different local dishes. I picked a skewer with pig fillet and mushroom sauce and my girlfriend had a pig roast with a large bread dumpling. We had no trouble switching my girlfriend's side from kraut salad to a regular small salad. Food was good although not great and a bit on the pricey side. However we were shocked by an event during our dinner: When an Asian family of three entered the dining room and politely asked the waitress if there was a free table, she responded with "sorry today only reservations". This was clearly a blatant lie as she had told us only two tables were reserved when we arrived. My girlfriend counted 17 free tables at the time the family asked for a table. I don't know why this restaurant treats foreign people with such hostility but as a German myself this was a big no go for me.

DON'T GO THERE!! Ther are unfriendly and they are all RACIST! They even spoke ill behind my back. It's the worst restaurant ever. One star is also a waste. It doesn't deserve even one star. I don't really like to recommend here. Don't waste your time and money here
Soyeon Kim — Google review
Unfortunately I cannot rate the food, as we were turned away by an in my opinion very unfriendly female staff, that did not welcome us in any way or even bothered asking how many persons etc. we are, she simply gave me (in my opinion) a very unwelcoming stare. After I asked if she has a table for 2 plus a small dog, her reply was "no, dogs are not allowed and we already have 3 dogs inside". Not sure what the meaning of this is or what difference it makes, but there were plenty of free tables available... I know hospitality business can be tough at times but this is in my opinion no way to welcome guests. Especially if it's not busy at all... (This review reflects my subjective experience and subjective feeling)

Gasthof Bodner is a traditional Bavarian restaurant that offers good food and friendly service at reasonable prices. Reservations are possible, so be sure to make one if you want to avoid waiting for a free spot. The Schnitzel is great, but the rum-steak can be a bit unevenly cooked. The Jacket potato is delicious and has a very creamy flavor inside.
Great food and excellent customer service. We had the entire place to ourselves and we still had a good energy. Good views out side too. We ordered a schnitzel and a field salad and it was oh so good.

We had dinner here on our Bavarian lakes hop road trip. The place was nice, the staff was very friendly and direct, though it was in the busy hour. They even gave nice recommendations, or what would be their pick, on asking. I tried a steak with vension, and my friends also tried other dishes. All the dishes were good and tasty. The dark beer they serve from hofbrauhaus Bertchesgarden was also nice. The atmosphere was also good. (Other than some overly staring and nosy guests on other tables, since we were scream foreign, this could be a norm). Overall the place was good and we like hit.

A fine dining place around Königssee. As you see in the pictures the outdoor seating has a amazing view to eat food with. Staff is friendly. Portions are quite large. Aprikose cake is a Must try! We were here in the noon for lunch at 3 so there wasn’t much of waiting. Rates are reasonable. All in all a good German restaurant.

Everything is close to perfection... ambience, service, location and food. Our favorite Restaurant during our 3 weeks vacation in Berchtesgaden. They also made extra effort for my husbands birthday dinner which for him very memorable. Kudos to the team. Thanks for the wonderful service and for the mouth watering food.

Highly recommend this place. Reservation necessary / recommend otherwise you're running danger of having to wait for a free space. Food very good, staff and waiters very friendly and quick. Price is very reasonable for the size. PS: we booked in advance and had our dinner there 3 days in a row as it one of the better places we found.

Typical German Restaurant, reservation is possible, Chef came out constantly asked if the dishes were good. Schnitzel is good, but rum-steak is a bit uneven cooked, too juicy. Jacket potato is delicious, inside is very creamy flavor. Service is okay, dishes served fast with good price.

Food and service is good except my rumpsteak is to hard. It didn't taste like a medium. The beer is very good. Prices are also acceptable. Nice restaurant!

Quick and friendly service. We came in on a Saturday night without reservation, don't do that, but we got lucky and were able to get a table. We had the Grilteller and Weiner schnitzel. Both dishes are great and plentiful.

Pizza restaurant
Pizzeria Jolly is a casual Italian eatery that offers a variety of pasta dishes, wood-fired pizza, and traditional Italian fare in a straightforward setting complete with an outdoor terrace. The pizza at Pizzeria Jolly is exceptional, handcrafted and cooked in a brick oven right before your eyes. Their pizzas are substantial, even by American standards, yet crafted with fresh and light ingredients that make it hard to resist devouring the entire pie.
Fantastic pizza and pasta, really well priced. Service was good and managed in an easy friendly style. We had a lovely evening meal out and we hope to visit again soon!

The pizza (Brie) was really good but the overall experience was not perfect and can be improved. The restaurant was so loud and noisy and with no music in the background. Also the waiters were a bit overwhelmed and the pizza took so long to be ready. The open kitchen makes the restaurant more loud. Also i was sitting in a very small room (extension to the restaurant) with too little distance between the tables which was risky from Corona hygiene point of view and i felt like all the people in the room were sitting with me on the table. But the food is good to be honest, so i would try it again.

Delicious Pizza at very reasonable prices. The pizza was cooked perfectly. Very impressed with the large number of variety of pizza toppings and combinations they offer. Very friendly staff. Will definitely recommend it if you are in town.

Fantastic pizza, made by hand and brick-oven baked while you wait. We've visited a few times over the past two years and the quality of the food and friendliness of the staff is consistently excellent. The pizzas are very large, even by American standards, but made with such fresh, light ingredients that you will have a hard time keeping yourself from eating the whole thing. They also have a nice selection of seasonal side items and desserts. The strawberry panna cotta was sublime.

We were on vacation in this area and this restaurant was our first choice because of high rating. Our order were three small size pizzas [you can choose three sizes - small (33cm), medium (40cm) and large (50cm)]. Food was great, but we wait for hour and half so the only problem here is waiting time. Over all, it was great visit, prices were not high but on the other hand not low.
