The Retreat Bar & Cafe offers a delightful and relaxing experience in their courtyard garden. The owners of this charming establishment are attentive and welcoming. Their pizzas are delicious, with an abundance of toppings to satisfy any appetite, including gluten-free options. Additionally, the cafe serves a mouthwatering bacon & cheese burger that is cooked to perfection, with juicy meat and generous servings of real cheese. Customers praise the friendly and polite staff who contribute to the overall pleasant atmosphere.
The service was absolutely wonderful. We all really enjoyed our food. It was the first pizza that my 16 year old son has ever actually enjoyed, because he is lactose intolerant. They absolutely did everything that they could, to serve him a home made vegetarian pizza with added extras, with home made dough, and amazing toppings, that he could enjoy as much as he'd always seen everyone else enjoy pizza. He was actually a little bit surprised! It made his day. And the staff's, we suspect! Equally, my 12 year old only ever eats cheese and tomato pizzas and has never really actually enjoyed eating a pizza. She also sat with a look of such food bliss, as she ate. I highly recommend this place for anyone, especially anyone who is vegetarian, or has food intolerances (get your gluten free and dairy free pizzas here!!), or fussy children. The staff were very friendly and attentive and the whole experience was just such a pleasure. We felt so welcome. Easily the best pizza I have ever eaten other than my Dad's own home made ones. 😉😊

I went to The Retreat with my partner and our dog. They are very dog friendly and it was such a warm experience overall! We went for pizza and i’m autistic and they were very accommodating - didn’t make me feel awkward. Will go back, thank you!

The burgers were amazingly juicy but my girlfriends pizza was so dry I could of used it as a Frisby, onionrings were watery and greasy and the drinks and juices was very nice, customer service was friendly and nice, id go again for the burger but will never touch the pizza again, neither will the mrs

What a difference from last year. No atmosphere to the place. Barmaid on the phone most of the time! Lemonade flat. No background noise such as radio or anything on. Such a difference from last year, went for pizzas and cocktails last summer, nothing like that this time. Such a shame as it was a lovely little bar. No lemons for the gin either and barmaid starting cleaning tables, taking menus, salt peppers and cultery at 8.00pm. Felt very rushed to finish our drinks!

I was impressed with the whole establishment’s presentation. I want to give this place 5 stars, i really do and i think if the owners read this and act on it, next time we are in the area we will give it another go and re-rate it. The drinks were really good, presented really well and tasted good. The food was very tasty and fresh. The staff was friendly and very approaching. My only problem here was the portion size. We had a couple pizzas which could have easily been served to the kids instead, because they were very small. I’m not a big guy that eats massive amounts of food in one go, but the pizzas me and my partner had, could have easily been added to the kids menu. I hope this is seen as constructive criticism, the restaurant has a lot of potential and i will certainly be returning. In my opinion if you adjust the adults portion sizes, you nailed it. Best of luck!

Lovely little place! I had a bacon & cheese burger. The burger was cooked well and was juicy, the bacon was nice and there was plenty of real cheese. My sister said her Pizza was good as well. The staff were friendly and polite as well. :)

Best fried breakfast in southern Gwynedd!!! I'm fussy about how my fried egg is cooked and they really go the extra mile. Service from Tom always cheerful and excellent. We go every week after a walk. Prices very good for the quality 👌 👏 👍

Excellent breakfast and lunch venue, tasty food friendly staff. Expect to queue if you don't get there early but they will take your number and call you if a table becomes free. Revisited today we got there 10 minutes before opening to secure our table still 👌.

Additionally, they are willing to divide pizzas into two sections, making it convenient for sharing. Although the food is generally good, there can be inconsistencies in terms of temperature and occasional omissions. It is worth noting that card payments are no longer accepted at this establishment.
Quality take away pizza, with vegetarian options available on the menu and by request. They will also divide so that you can have two options on one pizza - really useful if you are sharing.

It was this first time I had tried this takeaway,we had a chicken kebab and a chicken and lamb kebab to be honest it was just ok but It cost £16 Which I thought was over priced. I wont be rushing back.

This is a small takeaway cafe with a few basic tables. The food was ex excellent and provided quickly. The cafe was very clean, with the walls and floor tiled to enable cleaning. In addition the staff were pleasant and engaged in conversation. This is a recommended takeaway for the quality of the food and the clean environment.

Nice pizza and chips although not the cheapest. There was a fair bit of grease/oil under the pizza which was not great. All in all a decent pizza.

This place is awful !!! Over priced massively! Can’t get a simple order correct, rude dirty staff and the food is just as shocking! Raw chicken left my family poorly off the small amount we managed to eat because it was so awful! £80 for 4 meals !!! That was still served wrong anyway… avoid at all costs ! Staff are so rude!

Modern European restaurant
Seafood restaurant
After struggling to find availability elsewhere, I decided to take a chance on Proper Gander, a modern European restaurant. To my surprise, it was not fully booked either! The service provided by the two female staff members was exceptional - they were incredibly attentive without being intrusive. If it weren't for the breathtaking sunset over the sea and hills visible from the window, one could mistake this place for a fancy London eatery. The food itself was excellent; generous portions that were beautifully presented.
After finding everywhere else fully booked, we took a chance and honestly could not believe this place wasn't either! Absolutely impeccable service from the two ladies running things, incredibly attentive without being overbearing. Could have been a fancy London restaurant if it weren't for the beautiful sunset over the sea and hills out of the window behind us. The food was brilliant, big portions and beautifully presented. Will definitely be recommending to friends and visiting again.

What a truly brilliant place to start our holiday! The service we received was efficient and we felt well looked after. The food was amazing especially the scallops and cheesecake! Would definitely recommend to anyone for a special occasion or even just for a meal out.

Lovely decadent atmosphere. Friendly and attentive staff. Good wine list and menu, the Camembert with honey and raspberries was amazing. You won’t leave there hungry.
Rhodri Williams — Google review
My pasta dish though nice was way too large. The prawns were, in my opinion well overcooked & the whole dish far too wet with pasta sauce and strong tasting which masked everything else. The waitress was very considerate and friendly. Bring dog friendly was a bonus as we were on holiday. Background music 👍

What an amazing gem of a find. The food was excellent: Black Pudding Croquettes with apple ketchup to start, lamb rump & steak for mains and white chocolate & raspberry cheesecake and chocolate brownie for pudding. The service was brilliant, staff were attentive, and nothing was too much trouble. I can honestly say it was the best meal we have had for as long as we can remember & would highly recommend a visit. My partner said the steak was better than Gouchos. Thank you so much, we will return on our next holiday to Wales 😊

First time eating here.Booked short notice with dogs and booked in no problem. Food and service was first class. Waitress was very attentive and really nice and friendly. A real assett to the restaurant. 10/10

Lovely restaurant. We particularly enjoyed the nibbles (honey glazed almonds and olives) and the main dishes were flavoursome and well seasoned. It was a little quiet when we went (Sunday evening) so the atmosphere was somewhat lacking. But there was good music playing and the staff were professional. This was the first night of our honeymoon and we really enjoyed the sunset from the beach after the meal.
Ben Tucker — Google review
A pleasant atmosphere and attentive staff. The lamb main course was a real highlight. Our starters were nice enough but would have benefitted from more seasoning. With fine dining sized portions, an option to order additional vegetables would have been very welcome. We would certainly like to visit again. Thank you.

A lovely restaurant in the heart of Tywnn - a great find! We came to meet old friends here, who live locally, and Proper Gander was a great experience. The service was brilliant, with our waitress giving us lots of recommendations and good wine pairings. The food was presented fantastically, for which I’m ashamed I have no pictures, but the taste of most of the dishes was a bit bland for my taste (and I’m quite salt sensitive!) Overall a great place, and we will be back!

We had a lovely meal, compliment to the chef. We will definitely go back. Our waitress was lovely, friendly and polite. Well done.👍

Lovely restaurant, my fiancée and I along with our 2 toy cockapoo’s (dogs friendly) enjoyed a romantic meal last night. I enjoyed the seafood linguine while my partner devoured the ribeye steak! The waitress Sapphire (sorry if I’ve butchered the spelling) was absolutely lovely, the right mix of attentive but not overbearing! Definitely worth booking a table if you are in the area!

Went as a family of 3 with one nut allergy and one gf. There were no allergens on the menu and the staff were not clued up on what was gf or nut free. The dining experience was therefore impacted as it took about 3 back and fourths to the kitchen to check what had what in it for each course. Staff made it feel like it was a real faff which i’m sure in a busy restaurant it is but it heavily impacted the experience. Left feeling deflated. However, on a positive note the food produced was enjoyable and would recommend to anyone that had no dietary requirements.

I was really looking forward to visiting this restaurant but unfortunately the experience didn’t live up to my expectations. We arrived as a party of 9. The first shock was the menu had changed - but not on their website (old menu still online). The pork belly we were looking forward to was no longer an option … ok so we selected items on the new menu ( there aren’t many selections) only to be told there was no pork chops and then sometime later was then told there was no beef ragu either, so one of our party ended up having a ‘burger’ when she was looking forward to the pork belly and had run out of options. My smallest child ordered some chips (he’s 9) we had to wait 1 hour 20 mins for our starters. They didn’t bring the little man his chips so he had to wait another 20 minutes, only to be presented with the smallest bowl of chips I’ve seen. The rest of the party ordered Rib Eye steaks, Lamb, Chicken Goujons, Pasta and a Burger. Generally the food was good but not a lot for the money and the excessive waiting. Btw the restaurant was not full. The Rib Eye contained gristle normally you would expect this to be rendered. Ok so it’s not all negative, the Garlic Bread was excellent, the spring rolls were tasty and because of the wait we had 3 deserts free and the cheesecake was lush. The waitress was very pleasant. For the meal we had, the lack of options, the unexpected menu change, the extreme waiting times and the cost - I have to say I’m disappointed

Thai restaurant
The Victorian Slipway is a family-friendly pub that offers a satisfying Sunday lunch with generous portions and high-quality ingredients. Despite the potential busyness during lunch hours, the attentive staff efficiently minimize waiting time. They even cater to vegans by providing suitable meals, including a separate bowl of butter-free cooked vegetables. The dining room is conveniently located on the first floor and can be accessed via a lift.

Honestly the best Thai meal I’ve had outside of Thailand. Fresh ingredients, authenticity cooked and very generous portions - they won’t be selling many deserts! Highly recommended

Very friendly staff, eager to please and accommodate you. Lovely seat by the window. Food was fabulous cod and chips were superb, batter melt in your mouth and as light as a feather. Would definitely go back 😍

Had heard about the new venture into Thai food at the Slipway and am delighted to report it was absolutely delicious. I pre ordered my meal for collection at a specific time and it was presented bang on time piping hot and so very tasty. The pork skewers with tamarind were out of this world, prawn pad Thai was made with fresh tender prawns and beef massaman curry flawless. Huge portions - pictured is less than half of what I received. I love the Slipway, it is a great community pub in a magical town, and the Thai-wyn restaurant can only be a great success - I'll certainly be back with reinforcements.

Went here with family for a Sunday lunch, portions were large and quality of ingredients very good, lunch times can be busy but the staff work diligently to keep waiting time to a minimum, a member of our group is a vegan and there was a suitable meal for them even down to a separate bowl of cooked vegetables without the butter, dining room located on the first floor with a lift available. Washed the meal down with a pint of real ale (Wyre Valley pale ale) which was well conditioned, all in all a good experience and I'm happy to recommend the Victorian Slipway

Fabulous views from this beach front pub. Great selection of food with a restaurant to eat in upstairs (where the views can be enjoyed. No dogs allowed) or also in the small Bar area downstairs (dogs allowed). Huge selection of gins and rums etc as well as on draught lagers, cider and Guinness etc and even small bottles of Prosecco🥂 Staff were friendly and helpful. Definitely one to try when visiting Tywyn.

I was a bit sceptical about the Thai restaurant but thought we'd give it a go. It was delicious! Fresh, full of flavour and the smell as you walked up the stairs 👌 the service was great and wine was good. Best food I've had in Tywyn in a long time. Thanks very much we will be back.

We visited the tonight for the opening night of the Thai restaurant. The food was delicious couldn’t fault any of it and everyone commented saying it was the best food they had ate in a long time. The only bad thing was deciding what to have in the menu because it all looked fantastic. Service was amazing and the atmosphere was very welcoming. I would highly recommend a visit.
Allison Alabaster-Allen — Google review
Went in today on spur of the moment after walking the dog down the beach. Choice of three meats (Beef, Turkey or Pork), service was very quick maybe no more than 5 minutes. A big bowl of peas, carrots, cabbage and boiled potatoes to go with the meal and a bowl of cauliflower cheese (plus a big gravy boat as well). I would have liked to enjoy a pudding but I couldn't eat another mouthful, a very enjoyable meal, great service and our dog was happy as they gave him a handful of treats as well.

Great little pub, good range of drinks, haven't eaten here recently, but food was fine last time. Toilets clean, service good. Small amount of outdoor seating and a small balcony upstairs. They sell Aspall cider, which is always a welcome bonus. Restaurant seating upstairs, but you can eat in the bar. Great setting, close to the beach, handy for a refreshment or two before/during and/or after a sunbathe.
