Khum Chao Luang, a historical building in Phrae, was once the royal palace of the Phrae rulers and is now a museum filled with period furnishings and engraved wooden doors. The beautifully maintained museum showcases amazing details of a tropical masterpiece of architecture that can be enjoyed free of charge. It was also the former home of the last ruler of Phrae, making it an important part of the city's history.
We made an unscheduled stop here and were we glad we did. No tourists were here when we visited. We took our time browsing the mansion/museum. There’s plenty of parking on the roadside (which is common in Phrae). No entrance fees, clean toilets and best of all…there’s a cold water dispenser. Staff were very friendly and considerate. Well-maintained sight. There are English labels for some of the items so I could understand the history of the mansion.

Truly a royal palace of yesteryear🙏 Amazing details still there. A well spent 40 minutes strolling through a naturally ventilated masterpiece of tropical architecture.

Amazing, a must see in Phrae! It's free, with old Prison underground.

A last Phare governor's house. It's more than 100 years buiding. a cellar of this house was a prison cell.

Well preserved teak house with beautiful wood trims. Tour guide was friendly and knowledgeable in explaining the different parts of the house and its former uses. However the landscaping could use some improvement to complement the house.

It was on fine day we went, the building is in good care. There are etiquette in English, but only short explanation. For someone who interest with building/history, perhaps you could read online articles before/after going to this place. Clean toilet available at the backyard garden.

Excellent and totally free to enter, don't miss this important palace. Jao Luang Piriyahepawong-u-Dorn This statue was built as a tribute to the last "Jao Lunan" of Phrae (the King appointed ruler of the city) from 1889 to 1902. Through his vision and leadership he was both devoted to the welfare of the Phrae people and a devout Buddhist. His most significant plans for administering included the establishment of a police force and a system for local people trading. On 15th September 1902 during the rebellion of the Shan (many of them worked in Teak logging and mining in Phrae) the local rule was upset on a massive scale and he had to flee to Luang Prabang in Laos. (In the basement there used to be interrogations of suspected criminals)

Wat Phra That Cho Hae is a revered temple in Phrae Province, known for its sacred significance and stunning architecture. The octagonal pagoda enshrines Buddha relics and is adorned with Cho Hae satin as a sign of reverence from the locals. This serene Buddhist site is especially important for those born in the Year of the Tiger.
Very Nice Temple. The pagoda is under renovation now.

Very beautiful temple located little outside of Phrae city. It’s surrounded by mountains.

Royal temple of Phrae province is claimed to be temple for people who were born in year of tiger. So there are many symbols, pictures, paitings about tiger in the temple complex. There is contruction over the main stupa ; however, visitors are allowed to pay respects and worship around the stupa.

The entrance is quite far from the expressway. It takes time to travel from the city quite a bit. But when you get to the temple, it's worth it. temple on top of mountain You have to walk up to the top. The pagoda is very beautiful, the whole pagoda is bright gold. The bell rang because he went early in the morning. as beautiful as the rumor

A must when in Phrae. Lots to see. Shops were selling statues made from the old ubosot's roof when I was there. Very unique indeed. Also spiritually important for anyone born in a tiger year.

Wat (Temple) Phra That Phae Cho is an immensely peaceful Buddhist place of worship set atop a hill. Accessed by a (left as you walk up) set of 125 steps flanked by two beautifully tiled Dragon Snakes. The 33m Golden Stupa and the Prayer Hall adjacent to it are both, calmly soothing and meditational. One can also seek blessings from a presiding Buddhist Monk and join in prayer recitals in the latter. Or simply offer candles, incense sticks and a small hand-made conical bouquet of flowers along with their own prayer recitals by dropping a small donation of THB 20/person (£0.50p) into one of several boxes. Don't miss gonging the 33 or so large brass Bells with the Teak batons provided. We then descended on the opposite set of 86 (undecorated) steps back to the street. REMEMBER: This is a Place of Worship. Both genders must dress moderately and be prepared to take-off your footwear at the very top before entering a Sacred place.

Wat Luang and Museum, located in Phrae Town, is a significant Buddhist temple with a rich history dating back to 829. The temple houses priceless artifacts such as old Lanna Buddhist images and a 500-year-old stone inscription. Additionally, the temple compound includes the Phrae Museum and the 200-year-old Phrae Culture Hall, showcasing various antiques and artifacts related to the town's past.

Less spectacular than its neighboring temple, but likely of more significance. And much older.

Wat Luang is a very old temple (however the current buildings are newer) with a main hall containing a bronze Buddha statue. The other notable building is the two-storey building containing a small museum. It is worth visiting when at Wat Luang. I enjoyed my visit and the TAT volunteer was very kind and helpful.

(Translated by Google) It is a very beautiful temple (for taking photos) and really quiet. Didn't meet any monks (may have already entered the monastery) or tourists haha. And the entire temple has many things, including an old pavilion, a church, a pagoda, an ancient fort (I don't know what to call it), but you can come and stop by. (Translated by Google) It is a very quiet ancient temple with few tourists. I met a monk who spoke a different language but was very friendly. Thanks to his help, I entered the museum and saw the 500-year-old golden Buddha protected by layers of glass. There are also some interesting things on the second floor. Impressive collection. There is a precarious cabin next to the museum, but it looks like it was once very exquisite, with some wood carvings placed upstairs. Wat Chom Sawan, situated in the picturesque province of Phrae, Thailand, is a must-see attraction known for its exquisite architectural design and rich historical significance. Constructed in 1900, this old temple boasts a unique fusion of Lanna and Burmese architectural styles. Adorned with intricate carvings and golden details at its grand entrance, the temple stands as a testament to the region's cultural heritage.
A perfect example of a Burmese style temple easily recognizable by the roof. Sadly, it was undergoing renovations at the time of my visit. The interior is also recognizable as it is more square than a Thai style temple. The Buddha is made of bamboo and gilded. The temple is over 100 years old.

This Wat gets points for history. It must be preserved for the future Generations. The temple is not the most beautiful Teakwood Temple but it is historic and it is very well-preserved the side of the temple has been a temple for over 1,000 years obviously this beautiful wooden Temple could not be 1,000 years old but it is very old and it is worth a visit

The cave is illuminated with colorful lights and features stops where you can learn about the legends associated with it. Legend has it that the cave was once home to a waiting princess, giving it its name.

Interesting to visit this place. Love the limestone with water flowing. Guess it the iconic stuff to see inside the cave. The steps up to thebcabe was not nicely patched hence its might be challenging for some. Plenty of parking. Short climb to the cave. Plenty of parking area.

Great free place to visit. The caves are amazing inside if a little worry some as they are so wide haha Nicely lit up and it was very quiet. It's completely unaccessible for anyone with mobility issues unfortunately due to the height of the caves and the very rough steps. Outside the caves they have labelled all the trees if you are interested in that. Not too bad a view from the top also.

Beautifully lighted cave. No guide or torch light required. Paths are clearly marked and it’s an easy walk to the end of the cave (although the initial walk up to the entrance requires a bit of effort). Be amazed by the giant stalactites and the mini waterfall near the rear which is unique. There was no one inside when we visited in early Dec. Take time to enjoy the cave, the legend and take photos. No entrance fee, lots of free parking and friendly staff. Upon exit, be sure to ask the guys at the visitor center for a good lunch stop nearby. Not on google maps, it’s a house 200m left of the exit on the main road. Big bowl of egg noodles with lots of meatballs and seasoned pork for only 50 baht. Friendly owner and people!

We had a lovely time at this cave. The grounds are well maintained. Staff was friendly and helpful. The cave is currently dry and very easy to explore. There was a woman, working in the little store in the parking lot, who turned on the lights for us. We felt very lucky to be the only ones in the cave at the time. The Gingerbread House B&B is a welcoming cozy stay with a wonderful downstairs cafe, friendly staff and family. The family taught us the history of some of the locally made white spirits and after a tasting session we ended up buying four bottles of different types !. None of them have left us with a feeling of wanting to return to one day except for the Gingerbread B&B which is why we are taking the time out to write this review - great place, great team, great ambiance.

Good: Short walk to street with food vendors; artsy rustic (teak board walls) room design; Boutique bathroom (for Thailand 5 stars); Good wireless; Relaxed Thai hospitality; Breakfast all day restaurant (not too expensive); AC very good; Easy ordering food and coffee to upstairs dining area or room service; Parking easy across street in police station parking lot Why only 4 stars? Room would be challenging to organize if you two large suitcases or a lot of luggage; A small microwave would be very convenient for reheating street food; A bit more expensive than many many comfortable places around town.

Place is fine. Good local restaurant. Nice atmosphere, many tables, fair design. But, far not all dishes are really good. Soft shell crab with pomelo salad worth 5 stars. But tempura shrimps very average, fishcakes pretty standard, and grilled pork neck (kho moo yang) destroy the effect. This dish in recommend menu, and it is done in very author style. Lamb seasoning to have first taste of "sua rong hai", and chinese style sauce, type of jim jaew, but very-very sweet, this sweetness block taste of any other dishes and after huge amount of spiciness. If you don't like sweet pork in China, then you will not like one in this restaurant. It might be great experience for some anyway.. Second weak point is live music. Guitars and performance more or less ok, but singer was... Something you can expect in 420k population province 😁 Try another restaurants if you are picky. But also nothing too bad to come here for dinner. So, 3 stars. Oh, after trying one more dish, their signature, I'll change to 2 stars. Pieces of fish and squid have some spoiled smell, and taste too, even it was hidden by spicy yum souce. Oysters and shripms in this salad was fine, kitchen is not accurate with checking ingredients. 2 stars, hope management will recheck their processes.

The restaurant Wee Wee in Phrae is highly recommended for its delicious local dishes as well as its impressive selection of Western food. The meals are prepared with great care and use fresh ingredients, resulting in tasty and satisfying portions. Despite the assumption that the cook is from abroad, it turns out that they are actually Thai, showcasing their skill in creating such flavorful dishes. The clean ambiance of the restaurant is accompanied by soft music and friendly waitresses.
We passed by Phrae on the way to Chiang-Rai on a family road trip. I looked up restaurants in Phrae and Wee Wee came up so we decided to check it out. There is parking next to the restaurant. Once open the door, you need to climb up a flight of stairs n the eating area is cozy and you gotta do is write down your order on a piece of paper and hand it in but as we have 3 vegetarian, the server she is friendly n help us did our order n special request. Terrible experience. Giving 3 stars because in Phrae it might be the only one restaurant with some “italian” dishes… maybe their pizza worth visit, but we tried burger (very average, very “thai”), spaghetti marinara (so-so la-la, nothing special) and buffalo chicken wings which was the most terrible ones. You can choose sauce, we did choose “buffalo” and can not eat even one single wing. Too much vinegar in sauce, also it become heated on the hot wings and you get this warm vinegar terrible strong smell and taste, obvious mistake of local chef, it is not tasty, not buffalo, and you get this vinegar umbrae. Disappointed much after reading other reviews. This restaurant have good ratings because of low competition in Phrae. Pass this place, it not worth your time, if you did not stuck here for a while.

Wow, I like to think I know good pizza coming from the US, this place was better than I was expecting! The pizza was good and so was the pork chop, great sauce!

Lovely place. Phrae is known for the local dishes, but if you like western food: this is the place to be! We had dinner three times because the food is really delicious and well prepared. We had chicken, salmon, salads, tortillas, pizza. All dishes were great: very fresh ingredients, tasty and nice portions. I was almost sure that the cook was from abroad, but no: the cook is Thai! Congratulations, you are very well trained!

Good place. I tried the double cheeseburger and it was quite decent. I will definitely return to try the pizza.
