Onjuku Chuo Beach

Mentioned on
Beach
Onjuku Chuo Beach, situated in Chiba Prefecture and easily accessible from central Tokyo by train, is a sought-after destination for surfers due to its exceptional wave breaks. The beach boasts golden sands, clear blue waters, and iconic palm trees along the shore, making it an idyllic spot for beach enthusiasts. Visitors can also delve into the area's rich history or partake in invigorating water sports such as surfing and beach volleyball.
Onjuku is a town on the Pacific Ocean facing east coast of Chiba’s Boso Peninsula. The town is known for the wide, white sand beach and for surfing. Located less than 90 minutes from Tokyo by train, summer sees hordes of city dwellers descend on the area. Outside the “official” summer swimming dates of July 1st to August 31st, the town returns to being a sleepy seaside village. As with many other domestic tourism spots, Onjuku saw plenty of condominium development during Japan’s bubble era of the 1980s and early 90s. In the years since, there has been very little in the way of development. Aside from the beach, Onjuku is also known for the local delicacy of Spiny Lobster (there is a festival in early October) and for the wreck of a Spanish Galleon blown off course between Mexico and the Philippines in the 1600s—resulting in the first contact between feudal era Japan and the Spanish Empire. Today, there is a monument marking the event on the outskirts of Onjuku.

Excellent beach - very clean, very bright, very safe … waves and sand are very pleasant for anyone to enjoy and relax … seems best for surfing as I could see many people enjoying the surfing while their young kids are enjoying the sand and shore waters.

If you’re looking for a place to cool yourself away from the heats of summer and don’t have enough vacation time or money to go further away from your home where you’d prefer to go somewhere less crowded, then you might as well consider Onjuku as your place for relaxation :D For about 10 minutes walk away from Onjuku station, the beach site can be reached. And if you’re not ready yet plunging in the water, there are shops just across the station where you can by the stuffs that you’d be needing for the fun. And if the beach isn’t for you, you might just want to play in the pool that is just beside the entrance. You might wanna feed yourself with a little history too by visiting the museum near it.

Onjuku Beach is a good place for surfing and also for swimming for those who are good swimmers. you can commute by train because the beach is a walking distance from the train station. I think it took us 15minutes walk. there are hotels near the beach for those who wants to stay overnight. I've noticed also some restaurants near the beach. The open beach is very wide but when summer season comes it is crowded. If you don't have a tent you can rent a beach umbrella in the store nearby。 t

(Translated by Google) I went there on the Camel (electrically assisted bicycle) I rented in front of the station! The gradated turquoise sea reflected in the light and sparkled. The desert was smooth and there was an elderly couple walking with their dog, making it a very idyllic scene. Personally, I don't like crowds, so the beach at this time of year is very nice! The first place we visited had quite a difference in elevation, so it was a good idea to rent an electric bicycle! The tourist guide at the station was very kind. thank you (Original)

(Translated by Google) There is a parking lot, and it costs 500 yen for a regular car. There is also a toilet. There is also a sand washing area. There is also a tourist information center nearby. Unlike the sandy beaches of Enoshima, the sandy beaches are hard (high density) and easy to walk on. There were also differences in characteristics (density?) on the sandy beaches. When you walk on the sandy beach, there are hard sandy beaches and soft and slippery sandy beaches, so please experience it while walking. I don't know if the waves are rough or if this is normal on the Pacific side, but white waves are always rolling in. It was composed by composer Suguru Sasaki and is famous as a nursery rhyme. There is a lunar desert memorial museum (fees apply) next door, so you can find more information on the exhibits there. The statue of a prince and princess riding on camels, which originates from a poem, is impressive. There is also a monument called ``ONJUKU'', which is a Romanized place name that has become popular recently. The sand is carried by the wind and forms waves that are reminiscent of a desert. Hi Friends, Ohazuki coast is a mind blowing beach near Onjuku beach. Many people ste not aware of this place, as there is no clear visible road is there to this extraordinary beach. You need to walk 2 km from Onjuku beach towards the Iwawada Fishing port, after crossing the port please walk towards Ohazukikaigan parking lot. From the parking lot there is a very small road going to the beach. The road is not visible clearly. You have identify it and you have to walk almost 600 ms within the bushes looking towards the beach. I have attached a video of that small road. Just follow that you will reach most astonishing beach. The views are un expressive. Just go there and feel it. I have attached the videos and photos. Hope this info will help many. Thanks

(Translated by Google) A narrow path leads through the grass from the gravel parking lot. It is a good idea to wear long sleeves and long pants as this is a place where insects are likely to infest. The view of the coast is wonderful even though it is a small place. Once you get down from the rocky area, you will find yourself on a sandy shore, so be careful. The appearance changes depending on low tide/high tide and how the sun hits it depending on the time of day. The length of stay was around 20 minutes.
