Mine Action Visitor Center

Mentioned on
Tourist information center
Visitor Centers
The Mine Action Visitor Center provides information for tourists regarding the extensive amount of U.S. munitions dropped over Vietnam during 1965-1975, with approximately 15 million tons being deployed and at least a tenth of that amount failing to detonate. This center offers valuable insights into the lasting impact of warfare in Vietnam, without emphasizing any individual's personal experience.
We would definitely recommend visiting the Mine Action Visitor Centre if you can. When we were in Dong Ha in February 2023 for the wedding of our son to a local girl our friend An Binh Tran Nguyen took us to visit the Centre. The exhibition illustrates very clearly and powerfully the impact of the war. We found it very informative and very moving. Being from the UK we had little real idea of the devastaing impact of the war on the Vietnamese people and the countryside and the huge ongoing problem of dealing with the U.S bombs and land mines. News reports at the time and subsequent films such as Apocalypse Now, Platoon, Good Morning Vietnam gave a certain insight into the suffering inflicted during the war, but memories fade when you are remote from the situation. This exhibition reminds everyone of what really happened and the ongoing issues which are still being addressed and still affecting Vietnam and it's people. We would highly recommend a visit. 5 stars for effort and we love what you do. But you wouldn't open the doors for us to look around. We came from Saigon to see this place.

One of a few must-see places in Dong Ha that help visitors appreciate the immense costs of war, and better understand why the Vietnamese people so value their hard-won peace.

Definitely worth visiting if you have to stay in Dong Ha city, Quang Tri province. It contains information mainly images which provide a better understanding of the torturous lives of the Vietnamese during the war era. It was a marvellous and informative experience. No ticket is needed and good facilities such as clean toilet, big parking lot, refreshments. A must visit for anyone wanting to understand more about the Vietnam war and its effects. We are appreciate and thank you mr Phu Nguyen for taking time and warmly welcome us to the Mine Action Visitor Center.

Abi was very nice and friendly! She told us a lot about the Mine Action Center. There was also a school class of children, because they teach them to be aware of what is happening. The children loved us and we loved them! It is very good what they do here.

This small museum is located in the outskirts of Dong Ha, a mere 10min bike ride from the bus station. It's very informative and displays lots of information on the potential damage that unexploded ordnance (UXOs) can cause to the local population and livestock. I was shocked to learn that even decades after the war ended, there is still a very high number of UXOs lurking around and the population living in the rural area have to be extremely careful when venturing in the fields. There is a lot of prevention being done and there are dozens of trained specialists whose sole job is to venture in the fields and villages and speak to the people there to make them aware of the risks. All in all, a must-do visit if you happen to be in Dong Ha!

This is an ancient city, but now its more important significance is the resistance in the war. This castle was basically completely destroyed during the war with France. Now many schools or units use it as a patriotic education base. Hope it can be better protected and developed Tickets are free and a quick visit only takes 15 minutes.

It was so touchful to visit this place. I got a chance to understand more about history of my dear Viet Nam. People from the past, fought by all their lives, just to gain peace for us - our young generation. I almost cried when reading the letter from a sodier who wrote about his coming dead, left his last words to his family...If you love hisfory, please do not skip this place.

Historic place, here lies too many fallen soldiers of the heroic Vietnamese generation, some were still too young (15-18 year old). This is to show the world that Viet Nam is an unyielding country, and even with America’s interference, nothing cannot make us give up on our way to unite the country as a whole.
Công Thiện Trương — Google review
A sacred place where a lot of vietnamese soldiers and civilians fell. Do wear long trousers here. Not a lot of buffet options so bring your own water and food, especially if you re going with guided tour through whole DMZ. There is a small museum. Behave and respect! Not so much tourists mainly inland vietnamese tourists.

Quang Tri Ancient Citadel is situated in the heart of Quang Tri Town, which was once a military defense system and hosted the administration office of the Nguyen Dynasty (1802-1945). The site was taken over by the American-backed southern regime. It witnessed fierce battles during the American War in 1968 and 1972 between the American-backed forces and the southern liberation force led by Ho Chi Minh's government. After the fights between June 28 and September 16 in 1972, when thousands of soldiers of both sides died, the whole citadel was almost destroyed. There remained only the remnant of the east gate and some walls. The site has been upgraded as a historical relic site with some rebuilt wall sections, four main gates and a monument commemorating 81 days and nights of fierce fighting in 1972.

This is the visualized tomb for over 10000 VN soilders died during 81 days when they were protecting the fort of Quang Tri in VN war. Their corpses never be found because tons of bomb were dropped at last. Their dedication become eternity.

Annam Tour is a reputable travel agency that provides exceptional tour services. Their knowledgeable and fluent English-speaking guide, Mr Vu, specializes in military history and is highly recommended for enthusiasts. Clients have had a fantastic time on their tours with Annam Tour and express their gratitude for the great experience provided by Mr Vu. This travel agency has been praised for its outstanding service and professionalism, making it an excellent choice for anyone looking to explore Vietnam's rich cultural heritage.
Mr. Vu is an excellent tour guide. We did a day trip from Hue to the DMZ and tunnels. Even though our background knowledge about the vietnam war was limited, he took the time to explain everything in detail and did not get tired of answering our many questions. His tablet with extra pictures was a big help, since the museums are a bit basic. His car, a Ford SUV, was in very good shape and comfy. His driving was very smooth and safe, even for European standards.
John Lennon — Google review
We had an amazing private tour with Vu. After we arrived in Dong Ha, Vu very kindly gave up his day off to bring us on our tour. We learned so much about how the war in Vietnam impacted people living in the DMZ. Vu brought us to the Vinh Moc Tunnells which are an amazing piece of history and architecture. Vu has great English I would highly recommend him to anyone wishing to do a tour of the DMZ.
J B — Google review
We recommend Annam Tour. Mr Vu is a fantastic guide having fluent English and deep knowledge about the DMZ and the war itself. He makes that your imagination brings you to the times of war. With Mr Vu each hill and square of the DMZ has its own history. In addition, Mr Vu shows historical photos on a tablet which is an added value. Finally, he uses a good quality car which is an advantage over other tours. For sure worth the price.
Grzegorz Skowronski — Google review
I can’t recommend Mr Vu enough, a thorough knowledge of history and place, with a clear passion for his subject. So helpful and friendly, he was very flexible in adapting the tour to what we hoped to get from it and really couldn’t be happier with the experience!
