Glendalough Cathedral is a significant monastic site in Ireland that was established in the 6th century by St. Kevin. The ruins of this ancient monastic settlement lie between two lakes, hence its name Gleann da Loch which means 'Valley of the Two Lakes'. It features a 1000-year-old round tower, ruined cathedral and St. Kevin's Kitchen church. Glendalough is known for its forested walks, plentiful wildlife and beautiful valley location.
Glendalough is a beautiful place! We went with a tour from Dublin, which allowed us only 1,5 hours to explore. I would highly recommend driving here yourself so that you have a lot more time. The lakes and natural scenery is spectacular and the ruins are really interesting. Would suggest you bring an umbrella in case!

Simply beautiful. This place has magic in the soil. Literally. It's a special experience being here, in any weather.

An ancient monastic community in a beautiful valley. Forested walks, 2 lakes and plenty of wildlife to spot. Definitely worth a visit. Ample parking, but I suspect it gets jam packed.
Julia — Google review
Lovely walk around the very old ruins, the 100 ft tower, the old cemetary and if you like hike to the lower lake and or the upper lake. There are also vendors and food trucks in several places. Bathroom facilities at entrance or if you eat at the hotel near entrance. Wear comfortable sturdy shoes for the terrain. Beautiful!
Barbara Krueger — Google review
Lovely grounds and so much history. Great place to visit if you love good scenery and beautiful scenery with two amazing lakes on a trail
Debbie kinsella — Google review
What an amazing place. Great food, coffee trucks. Free to see the monastery and round tower (you pay €4 for parking) and can go inside the visitor centre for €5 to see an exhibition and video about different monasteries around Ireland. Great walk around the lake too.
Lisa O'Leary — Google review
This wonderful historical site features one of the foremost round towers associated with one of the pivotal moments in Irish history. It is a super example of an architectural style that was built to last. It was erected almost a thousand years ago and, theoretically, was to protect the wealth of art and literature, being amassed by the monks, from Viking invaders. Aside from the substantial historical importance, it is situated in Wicklow, often referred to as the Garden of Ireland. A stunning location a stone’s throw from beautiful lakes and mountain walks. I highly recommend this as a perfect location to visit for anybody looking for inspiration or a simple retreat from the world. On a calm day, when the lakes are like glass, and you escape the main crowd, it can be the essence of serenity.

Unforgettable, could visit everyday if I could. If you visit Ireland this is a must on your list. Naturally beautiful with untouched history!

This is a lovely place and very popular. There are plenty of walks. The one we did took us off the beaten path but still on a well marked and well maintained trail. Completely worth the drive.
Ian O'Casey — Google review
Truly amazing historical place. There's always a lot of people especially during the weekend, but it's a popular place so no surprise :)

Very mystical place...beautiful old cemetery...place was founded around 6th century...situated in the Wicklow Mountains...superb ride with the motorbike. Start in Hollywood and just follow the scenic road over the pass down into the glen.
Gavin bryson — Google review
A place full of history and beauty. Although it is very well visited you can find quiet moments in the churchyard and the remains of the monastery.
Dr. W. Sennebogen — Google review
Very suggestive place in a wild part of the Wicklow mountains. Must visit as part of a drive through the area. You can pay a short visit or take one of the paths and go for a lovely walk around the lake or through the forest and bring a picnic. Can be very busy and although there are loads of carpark spaces it can fill up quickly and the main road is quite narrow. We went there on Stephen's day and the public toilets were closed, a pity. Also luckily there was a food truck which has quite a good selection of savoury and sweet snacks and hot and cold drinks. The main restaurant was also closed. Can be very cold so dress appropriately.

We enjoyed our visit here and spent more time than expected! It was a beautiful day so after exploring the ruins we decided to do a few of the trails. We found the trail map a bit confusing and ended up on a much longer trail to the falls than we were hoping for but luckily it was still all beautiful scenery to enjoy. We were there on a Sunday in October and it was busy with tour buses, families and many cars but it never felt too crowded since there's so much space to share.

Such a peaceful place. The upper lough was stunning-well worth the walk

Wonderful place to visit before or after the walk. Parking and Restaurant around the corner.

It's amazing place views are wonderful, brilliant fantastic. You can have a long wonderful walk in the forest with waterfalls, Birds are singing. It is extremely calm and you feel relaxed. There is place for food that you can buy. You can bring your own food as there are separate tables surrounded with nature were you can eat. Just love this place.
Kristina Ziobakaite — Google review
Beautiful and mythical place. Founded in the 6th century as a monastery. Several ruined churches can be seen here as well as the old graveyard. The round tower is one of the last remaining ones. The site can be a bit crowded with all the tour busses. So pick your time. There’s a visitor centre and toilets nearby. Also a restaurant. A nice starting point for hike trails as well.

If you have the opportunity to come and walk in this beautiful part of the country, DO! Just gorgeous. Staff in the visitor centre were friendly and helpful.

Beautiful park located about an hour south of Dublin. Parking available on site, the cost is 4€. Otherwise the entrance is free. The Monastery is simply beautiful and a historic place worth visiting. I highly recommend doing the trails which starts right at the entrance and run for several miles. We did the blue trail which took us to the top of the mountain and allowed us to see the beautiful valley and the lakes. The blue trail should take about 2 to 3 hours to complete.
Fabian Novoa — Google review
Lovely Visitor Centre that leads to the walks! Stunning. Wonderful. Amazing. Just some of the words used to describe this area. The walks and scenery need to be seen to be believed. Would recommend a visit….4 Euros for the car park

A must see place in Wicklow mountain. If you ever visit Ireland and prefer mountain, Glendalough is just for you. There are 2 lakes, upper lake and lower lake. A beautiful river. Beautiful for piknik hiking and walking. This place is just amazing.
Adisa Kola — Google review
Glendalough is hundreds of years old, the history is fascinating and the site is a must see. The location, grounds, and the walk to the Glendalough site is really beautiful. You can also walk to the Upper and lower lake for more beautiful views of nature at its best. Plan for a couple of hours. There is enough parking space

As a tourists from San Francisco, we choose to join Wild Rover's Kilkenny, Wicklow Mountains, Glendalough Day Tour From Dublin suggested by our hotel Westin Dublin. It's super fun. My tour guy Liam made boring history sound so fun and adding so much color. We had a great day. I am not a hiking type of person, walking to the lake is somewhat aerobic to me, but maybe because with a great company my tour seems easy. Love this tour. It's beautiful and the view is breathtaking.

Great place to visit, 4 euro for car park is a decent price. We brought our own food so didn't experience the options there. Seems to be hot dogs and coffee vans there. Lots of options for the walks. There could be more benches or seats for picnicking. We saw some deer very close up which was great. Lovely area to spend a few hours.
Martina Levingstone — Google review
Very nice visitors center that provides information on how St Kevin and his congregation came to be. There is a video on the subject and a well thought out display on the subject. There is also a partial tour where a guide will give you the information before heading up to the site.
C Neon — Google review
Absolutely breathtaking views and scenery. All you pay for is food and parking. Loads of places to choose from to eat. I would recommend bringing a picnic as when you get to the upper lake there are lovely grounds around to sit and enjoy or to swim in the lake, As it is a trek back to the car park. Beautiful trails all the way down to the Miners village. Just beautiful you won’t be disappointed. Prepare to walk

I go to Glendalough often and every time, I stop at St. Kevin's Kitchen. I think the lady's name is Susan. She is one of the people that run the food truck and they are all very friendly and pleasant to chat with. The place is charming, the coffee is good and the food is delicious. Simple food made right. I always get a burger, but my girls always get the chips. This is a must for anyone visiting Glendalough.

We were on a tour and Glendalough was a stop; we did the tour and stopped in this nice area to have ice cream (at Kevin's Ice-cream), and my 9 you ordered a cheeseburger from St. Kevin's Kitchen. The price was reasonable for the prime location of this food truck, and the food was good. Service was reasonable. The ladies who helped us were friendly. The picnic benches outside are nice, clean, and it's such a beautiful place to sit in & relax.

The food here was the best around and affordable. I had the chicken goujons and chips and my mother had a scone. She said the scene was delicious and my food was so fresh and just great in general. I could not say enough about it! The coffee was perfect. You can tell its all made with care. The staff were incredibly friendly and it was right beside glenalough which was really nice. There were tables and chairs outside and benches to sit on with umbrellas incase it rained. Keep up the good work.

Dropped by for a tea and ended up staying for dinner need and desert. Best garlic cheese chips I've ever had and the fish was amazing. The girls are so lovely and it's a must visit in glendaliygh. Price was very reasonable. Best place to eat in glendalough hands down!!

I do not have the words to describe the amazingness of the lemon muffin. Life changing there is truly nothing like it. The chicken kebabs were fantastic, and the service was beautiful, and the people were nice. But the muffin- i cannot imagine an existence before eating this muffin. It was exhilarating. It felt like my eyes had been opened. If you go here and you don’t get the lemon muffin, what are you doing? The lemon muffin is a 10/10 treat that will change the way you think about food forever.

Wow this place is amazing. I would definitely visit again and again. The surroundings are beautiful, just come prepared as you can spend your whole day very well here. There is a lot to explore and walk. There is also a designated path for the buggies/strollers. It was so good to see how well nature is maintained. I recommend this place.

Wow this place is so beautiful. It's very popular with families having picnics but also with hikers, and those wishing to take a nice stroll around a truly picturesque location. I count myself in the later category and it didn't disappoint. The walk wasn't taxing and the payoff was wonderful. The lakes and views beyond are divine.

This park is one of the most beautiful places in Ireland and I am so glad I came to check it out. You could easily spend a couple days here or just come out for a picnic and some swimming on a warm summers day. Definitely include this on any trip through the region

Simply gorgeous! A quiet village tucked into the mountains. Worth a gentle hike or dip in the lake. Don’t forget to get the gelato or chips at the food trucks!!

Beautiful place to explore and stroll through. The ground is a former monastery and and active cemetery/burial place. There are several ruin structures (towers, churches) that are being preserved. Nearby, a couple of beautiful lakes with gorgeous views and a walking trail.

While in Ireland, I really wanted to spend some time here, and I'm glad I did. Half the time, it was raining, half the time, it was sunny. I loved every minute here, and I will be back someday.

Amazing place to have on your doorstep. The views are amazing and there was absolutely no litter. The water was a little cold in February.
