Airport
Domine Eduard Osok Airport, located in Sorong, is a modern and clean airport serving the Jakarta-Sorong route with airlines like Garuda Indonesia, Nam Air, SriwijayaAir, and Batik Air. The airport has strict inspections but rare traffic jams and queues. It offers clear passenger announcements and a small smoking area on the second floor. Despite being busy with travelers heading to Raja Ampat, it has limited departure gates and baggage conveyors.
This Class I airport is one of the airports on the Bird's Head Peninsula of Southwest Papua. Quite modern, clean, lots of clean toilets. Inspections are quite strict, traffic jams are rare, queues are rare. The loudspeaker for passenger announcements can be heard clearly even though the language feels foreign to the ear. For smokers there is a smoking area on the top 2nd floor, although the area is very narrow, it is enough to satisfy smokers. There is a small playground for children to play too. Then there are many shops open. Prices are of course a little more expensive.
Rahmat BPP JKT — Google review
Busy airport, always full of foreigner going to raja Ampat. Quite small airport, only three departure gate and two baggage conveyor. The design is not user friendly, bit confusing where to go, waiting room concourse area to much glare from the sun rays, very uncomfortable for the visitor. The toilet facility shall be improved the cleaning quality and frequency. The government of West Papua Province should start thinking to expanding the size of the airport and it's facilities.

A surprisingly modern small airport for Sarong. Very easy to check in. Has a few coffee shops and gift shops in the departure area Loads of porters and taxis at the departure areas after you arrive

Small airport as the gateway for your journey to Raja Ampat. Effective and clean - There are some souvenir shops (but limited offers) as well bakery and coffee shop. In the airport you can't get lost - signs, facilities and announcements are clear. WIFI for free is available.
Onkel Hotte — Google review
the airport is clean and well maintained. friendly customer service.
Rizky Saputra — Google review
The 'aquariums' they have in the waiting areas at the gates are absolutely brutal. I have no idea what they do to the poor fish but most of them are severely suffering. The float at the surface with they're bellies up struggling to survive or are very bloated. If you want people to come to your country to enjoy the fish life in the ocean please don't give them the impression that you don't care about animals at all. Then please just kill them and put plants there instead. It made me leave this place very disappointed and sad.
Anja Roth — Google review
It is the best airport in Papua. Good facilities and tenants, good lighting and air conditioning, not too big but meet the needs, clean, and comfort.
Djoko Julianto — Google review
The airport is much much better than years back.. Or even when the airport was in Jefman.. Keep developing as more and more expat is visiting Sorong..

Improved new DEO-Airport. Improved basic services, better luggage handling & other public facilities adding more comfortable spaces to both departure & arriving passengers, and transitting as well. It's just, no improvement on airport-taxi service, still poor..

Vihara Buddha Jayanti offers a serene escape with its beautiful sunset views over the harbor. Situated atop a hill, reaching the monastery involves a drive followed by a climb up stairs to the upper courtyard. The pagoda is an impressive sight and visitors can enjoy the peaceful atmosphere for meditation. While it's only open on Sundays, the panoramic view of Sorong city from this vantage point makes it worth visiting.
Very nice pagoda sitting on the top of the hill. Followed google maps to walk there and it took us through a local residential neighbourhood and met met the nicest people. Young boy helped us find the final way as the trail went various ways. An enjoyable experience. Everyone in Sorong is so friendly and smiling.

Only open on a Sunday. Thought the temple would have daily service. Had to pay, great view, massive gong. Payment was to access the perimeter of the temple.

We can see the view of Sorong from here, not a lot to see other than that. The place is a little bit hidden.

Located up in the hill, this vihara has a great view of Sorong. There is a buddha statue in a color of gold, a pagoda, and to visit you must pay entrance fee of around IDR 10,000. The monastery guard sells souvenirs made of pretty gemstones at a small kiosk where we pay the entrance fee.

It's not the best beach I ever visit, but in Sorong City, this is the best spot to relax. Not to far from Sorong, just about 20 minutes driving. There are many beaches with different names there and every beach are managed by locals. The entrance ticket are various, start from IDR 25K - 50K/person. I don't recommended for snorkeling at this beach, the underwater view not really worth and the sea wave is strong enough. I suggest you to enjoy the sunset here, is really peacefull. Unfortunately, many beaches is so dirty, plastic trash is everywhere and pollute the ocean.

Taman Wisata Alam Sorong is situated on the outskirts of Sorong city, offering a serene and tranquil environment. The park boasts lush jungle views with diverse flora and fauna, including a captivating five-meter waterfall. Despite some challenges in finding the trails, it provides an excellent opportunity for peaceful walks, bird watching, and immersing oneself in nature. While showing signs of abandonment, the natural beauty of the garden remains intact, making it an ideal spot for morning bird watching activities.
Amazing place for morning bird watching activity.
Riza Boris — Google review
Interesting place to spend an hour or so in Sorong. Many years past its former glory, but although it felt abandoned when we were there (we had the park to ourselves) we still got to explore the jungle on reasonably good and clear paths.
Phill Le Marinel — Google review
Abandoned park. I walked along the main road for 3 hours only to realise that the trails were to the right after the abandoned car park. There was absolutely no one to help. On the flip side, it's a beautiful nature reserve for peaceful walks and bird watching. Oh, and don't bother walking up to the watch tower, it's locked.

Went December 2022. It was 'open' but nothing happening. Looks like they are doing some renovation post Covid. Continue straight on entrance road, will see signs on right to camping area. There also some Interpretive signs for trees there. Aviary with a few bedraggled Cockatiels and parrots. Saw no birds in the wild, heard a few calls. Several species of butterflies along the paths. If you need some nature in Sorong, this is 9 Km from Swiss Belhotel. 2 hour trip private car/driver cost 200K I. Rupiah, $12.80 USD

Taman Wisata Mangrove Klawalu Sorong offers a unique escape from the typical water adventures in Sorong. The mangrove swamp is a haven for birdwatching, with sightings of Scrub Honeyeaters and Little Kingfishers. The well-maintained boardwalks provide an opportunity to observe various bird species and tropical sounds, although the presence of washed-down rubbish raises concerns about the ecosystem's health.
Interesting walk through the mangroves. Many birds and tropical sounds. Sadly tons of garbage wedged in the mangroves. There are elevated stands so one can have a fabulous view. The government is expanding the area and removing rocks from the area to enhance the water access.
E Mccarron — Google review
Came here for birding. Found a pretty good number of Scrub Honeyeaters. Failed to get a good view of Little Kingfisher but I know they are around. You probably will not find Blue-and-black Kingfisher here as it was too crowded with tourists when I visited it, but it still offers some nice look into the mangrove to find some other species of birds
Panji Gusti Akbar — Google review
4 stars for the idea of a mangrove swamp attraction. The boardwalks are pretty well maintained. Unfortunately there's not a lot to see. Also plenty of rubbish washed down which makes you worry about the health of these ecosystems. Spent some time looking at soldier crabs 🦀 and mud skippers.

The location of Rumah Makan Mini is somewhat concealed, situated behind the Mariat Hotel and resembling a closed store. The food itself is incredibly flavorful; the fried shrimp stands out with its large size and sweet taste indicating its freshness.

Their location was little bit hidden from main road, it’s behind the mariat hotel and look like closed store. But it’s the way it look, just open the door and come in! They specialized in chinese food and the option for food was a lot, dining area also equipped with A/C. Food taste was really tasty, I’ve tried the fried shrimp (the shrimp was quite big and taste sweet indicate that it was a damn fresh) and the sapo tahu also quite big (portion up to 3 people). It cost us 230k for 3 people and it was worth it!

We found this place at the very last of our staying in Sorong. On paper they are look wonderful. To make our stay in Sorong memorable, we’ve decide it to come for the lobster and crab. The moment we enter the restaurant, we notice there are several chest freeze and I saw that the fish wasn’t fresh. Since we didn’t come for fish so we still proceed. We make our order and unfortunately they didn’t have what we like to order so since we already sit there we took a chance , order the fish and squids. Our food arrive quite late and as we suspected the fish wasn’t fresh! It give us an itchy after taste in our tongue. The so called cumi mentega was nowhere taste butter and the squids itself was slightly on the thought side. Isn’t really worth the money when you witnessed in approximately a kilometer from there was seafood market and they are all displaying fresh fish.

Personally, this restaurant is not so special for me. For “Makassar Style” ikan bakar, the taste is not outstanding considered the price. Their fish also frozen fish, not life fish, however it is much fresher compared to some seafood restaurant at Jakarta. Chinese food is a little bit better in taste.

fresh seafood and great water spinach balacan, their sambal matah was awesome as well. situated in kampung baru area so it was frequented by tourists going downtown. the seating area was not air-conditioned and sometimes the smoke from the grill outside camd in, but somehow it was not that hot inside. overall price vs quality was just a little bit pricey, considering that other restaurants in this town are sporting the similar price range.

I had a lunch here while transit at Airport Sorong. I walked from airport and maybe around 15-20minutes but actually you can take yellow cab at mainstreet, very cheap but you must walk to outsite airport about 5 minutes, or if you are with families or friend, just take taxi from airport, easy. It’s clean and tidy inside the restaurant, grilled fish that I tried was tasted OK, nothing special, i wanted to try crab but i cant afford. Service was good. Second floor is Karaoke room. It’s quite at the time when i was there. Recommended place to eat but the price quite above average.
