The Hotel Athgira offers a delightful and impeccable dining experience with its charming atmosphere and attentive staff. The buffet presents an exquisite blend of flavors that cater to a variety of tastes. From succulent meats to delicious vegetarian options, each dish is a culinary masterpiece. The presentation is artistic, and the meticulous attention to detail is evident. The dessert selection provides a sweet conclusion that leaves a lasting impression. Although it may be slightly expensive, the quality justifies the price.
We came for lunch a couple of days and the food was a good spread and the service was great too. Although some of the juices were a bit watery but after telling them to make it thicker, they did it perfectly. I would recommend this place for anyone to have a good meal with the buffet being priced at 2,500/= LKR per head and worth it!

The Hotel is very nice, the rooms are clean and comfortable with everything working, the pool is very good and ideal to cool off an relax by. We had food and it was very nice, the staff where helpful and looked after us well. I didn't get any pictures of the hotel but the Safari was worth doing.

Walked in to their street food corner during the long weekend in july We really enjoyed it.convenient location in the Udawalawa- Thanamalwila road. Easy parking. Food was really good for a reasonable price.

Hotel Athgira is a great place to rest after or before the jeep safari in Udawalawe national park. Situated in a great location where you can visit Elephant transist home by crossing the road. Management and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Rooms and food were amazing. It has a swimming pool as well which is a plus point.Highly recommend Hotel Athgira!!

Tourist trap… more concerned on making money then cleaning the place or serving better quality. Even the menu they give you is run down . Seriously , they need to it a minimum effort. Don’t know why driver brought us there

Absolutely delightful! The restaurant offers an impeccable dining experience with its charming ambiance and attentive staff. The buffet boasts an exquisite fusion of flavors that cater to diverse palates. From succulent meats to delectable vegetarian options, each dish is a culinary masterpiece. The presentation is artful, and the attention to detail is evident. The dessert selection is a sweet finale that leaves a lasting impression. While slightly on the pricey side, the quality justifies the cost. A truly memorable gastronomic journey that will tantalize your taste buds and leave you eager to return for another exceptional meal.

I don't know what they offer. As individual guest they overlook you. Loads of waiters, but nobody serves you or brings a menu In front of the Elefant center is a nice Café,just opposite to this restaurant

Breakfast was a huge disappointment. Expensive, half the items were off the menu, eggs uncooked, cheap coffee, toast and jam.

Best place to visit and have a meal in udawalawe. Cleanliness is very good. Highly recommended.

We loved staying here and highly recommend it. The service is exceptional from checkin to checkout. They greet you with a refreshing towelette and fresh fruit juice, the rooms are super clean, spacious and modern, and the breakfast in delicious. The swimming pool is awesome to swim in after a safari tour in the heat. We ate dinner at the hotel as it was convenient and there aren't many other options available nearby, but there were no regrets. The food was delicious (one of the best we have had in Sri Lanka and reasonably priced, around 750 Rs for curry).

The Common Rose Restaurant is a highly recommended establishment with exceptional service and a pristine kitchen. The cuisine offered is truly remarkable, encompassing delectable options such as the chicken and cheese Kottu and burger. The Kottu in particular stands out for its mouthwatering flavor profile and well-balanced seasoning. While the burger may not meet Western standards, it still satisfies local expectations, especially when accompanied by delicious fries.
Amazing bbq chicken, big portion 4 x chicken thighs (!) chips and salad. So tasty. Only did take-aways.

Very clean and nice place with delicious food. We visited there on January and had lunch(buffet) Prices are reasonable and good service. Can recommend to anyone
Dewmi Ratnayake — Google review
Really nice place with great service, very clean kitchen and awesome food. We had the chicken and cheese Kottu and the chicken and cheese burger. Kottu was awesome, really delicious, well seasoned. The burger was ok compared to local standards (don't expect something you'd eat in Europe or the States), fries were delicious. Best mango lassi in Sri Lanka so far!
Tamas Molnar — Google review
No AC, just a fan, so it is super hot inside. Plenty of flies that want to eat your dinner… The food is good but very expensive compared to restaurants in Ella for example!
Martin ?krabka — Google review
The Main dish was tasty. The dessert was a ready meal (Watalappan) and was awful. They have a menu only for foreigners with high prices.
Peter Lustig — Google review
Great buffet at 680 rupees. Best mango lassi I've ever had. And so clean! Later edit: returned at 8pm and ordered food from the menu: chicken and cheese kotu, salads, grilled chicken, all excellent. Bring your own alcohol, there's a wine shop next door.
Razvan Zoitanu — Google review
Stop ripping foreigners off. Walked in, looked at menu, left right away. Rediculous pricing! Do yourself a favor and go across the street to Chef Chami.
Foley Exploring — Google review
I was quite disappointed with Common Rose. As soon as we saw the menu prices, we decided to leave. This remote roadside restaurant doesn't have any special location or ambiance to justify their high prices. In Sri Lanka, you'd expect to pay 1-2 USD for vegetable rice, but at Common Rose, they were charging a whopping 10 USD for the same dish. Definitely not worth it.
Baris Arslan — Google review
Food was excellent and reasonably priced good vibes + clean

The chicken Deviled with rice tasted very good and the juice was delicious. However the price for the food was higher than usual.

Good local food, friendly and fast staff, but extremely expensive for foreigners compared to other local restaurants (up to 3 times the usual price)

Hungry Monkey provides a delightful dining experience with exceptional service. The waitstaff is friendly and attentive, making the atmosphere enjoyable. The menu offers a variety of delicious options, including a recommended fish curry that comes with delectable fried eggplant. Additionally, the restaurant is located near the elephant transit home for convenience. While they do not serve beer, their extensive beverage selection still impresses. Overall, Hungry Monkey is highly recommended for its scrumptious food and relaxed ambiance.
Great place. Recently opened . The food was amazing and staff was very friendly and took great care of us . Thanks Buddika !!! Highly recommended.
Frank Arrica — Google review
What a wonderful experience! The service at the Hungry Monkey was outstanding -- the waiters were exceptionally friendly and attentive. The staff were chatty and helpful and the food was delicious. We got the fish curry as recommended by our waiter and it was fabulous (especially the fried eggplant that came with it)! My only regret is that we didn't bring bathers -- the pool looked perfect for a hot day. I wish I could give the crew at Hungry Monkey 10 stars. Lots of love from Australia 😊💕

Very nice place, highly recommended. We just had dinner here: a Greek salad and veg curry plus separately roasted cashews. All was delicious! Furthermore: nice atmosphere, we liked the design of the restaurant with the lamps and big plus: we were welcomed and served by a very friendly and kind manager!

Had fantastic curry in a lovely setting with amazing staff. They offer western food too and my husband enjoyed a club sandwich. Highly recommend. It would be perfect if they served beer, but the beverage selection otherwise is quite big and lovely!
Mia Hebib — Google review
I give this place 2 stars: long service, very high prices (Sandwich 2500 rupees), poor service. The sandwich comes with a salad on the menu. They didn't bring us salads. I had to ask. The waiter asked “do you want salads?” As a result, they brought one salad for two, they said that there was a double portion. The good things are a large and well-kept area, clean toilets.
Дмитрий Тетенищев — Google review
Nana was a fantastic help when I was asking for recommendations on the menu. I had the crab paan curry and it was absolutely delicious! We hung out after our meal and enjoyed good music and beer until it was time to see baby elephants. I could spend so much time here. The staff is very attentive, extremely friendly and quick to bring out the food. I would recommend this spot for anyone who wants to have some good Sri Lankan food or Western food they do it all very well!

Lovely place with excellent service for our New Year's Eve dinner. Crab curry, fried shrimp and pizza were all tasty. Chocolate shakes...yum!

Had a very decent beef burger and a very tasty greek salad. The place is beautiful with a super nice terrace, the service is fast and the staff is really friendly and hospitable. The place is pricier than other restaurants in the area but for me, the experience was worth it :)

beautiful place and good location for photos. Delicious food and good tasty coffee, which is not a common occurrence in Sri Lanka. There is somewhere to hide from the sun, there are hanging beds. Very friendly and welcoming staff, you can even chat with the indigenous people of Sri Lanka and learn something interesting and new about the island. Clean toilet. There is a small pool and a children's area

Thanks Hungry Monkey for an awesome lunch! The food was excellent and the staff super friendly! I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to relax from the hot sun in the shade of tall trees or even in the pool!

Amazing experience! Super friendly staff and the best coffee in Sri Lanka so far! Owner was super welcoming, the best. Great place to take your break while exploring the area. Definitely recommend it.
anouk faber — Google review
We arrived as the first guests of the night, but instantly the whole place was lit up, and the staff was ready to take our order. With two small kids (5 months and 4 years old), dining out is sometimes stressful, but the staff was really helpful in entertaining our youngest, while our 4-year old really enjoyed swinging on the hanging couches, and rued us not bringing his swimtrunks, so he could have taken a ride on the waterslide at the pool in the back, that the owner offered to open up just for him. The food was excellent, I can personally recommend the Chicken Fajitas. All reasonably priced as well, with drinks we ended up at 8.500 LKR which is more than fair for a family night out. The staff was very helpful and polite, the manager Nana even offered to carry our youngest around on his shoulder, so we could relax and enjoy our meal! Excellent place to go both with and without kids, and we will definetely return in the future!
Johannes Baad Michelsen — Google review
Nana and his team made sure we had a fantastic evening with the best local food you can find in town in a beautiful exotic setting. My prawn curry came with delicious papadum chips, a local eggplant tapa, a yummy salad and another coconut tapa which was also scrumptious. The rice was very well cooked and the service was impeccable. On the side we also ordered veggie and fish spring rolls which we literally ate in a few seconds because they were so good! If you are in Udawalawe area don't miss Hungry Monkey! Highly recommended.

Amba Kola Hotel and Restaurant is a hidden gem located near Udawalawe. The hotel offers delicious food, with the veg curry, rice, and coconut roti being highly recommended. Visitors can also book a cooking class to learn from the amazing chef, who creates mouthwatering dishes. Guests are treated like family by the caring and lovely owners, Janik and Louise. The rooms available for rent are clean and comfortable.
We had a lovely afternoon at Amba Kola taking a cooking class that resulted in the most delicious food! The family was very welcoming and so kind. Wish we had spent more time in Udawalawe to enjoy their delicious food more! Louise and Janik took us to some beautiful photo op spots that were breathtaking locations. Highly recommended this location for a stay, cooking class or meal. Thank you for a wonderful time.

What a lovely hidden gem! I stumbled across Amba Kola when I saw signs for it next to the hotel I was staying at. It’s not exactly where marked on maps, you need to go down the road roughly 50m (follow the first sign) and then turn right (second sign is pictured). I got a mango juice (lucky because they are not in season at the moment!). The owners were so sweet and didn’t want me to pay for it but I insisted I did! The next day my boyfriend and I went for lunch and got the veg curry with rice and coconut roti. Everything was delicious and beautifully presented in clay pots. We also got 2 green smoothies in which they used local ingredients straight from their garden, this is one of the nicest green smoothies I’ve ever had! The hospitality we received was incredible, some of the nicest people we have met. Would definitely recommend if you’re in the area!

My friend and I booked the safari in Udawalawe through Amba Kola and they were so sweet and welcoming. We got cake and coffee when we arrived in the morning and the host came with us to the safari. When we came back from the safari, we got breakfast. We loved that everything was made with ingredients from the garden and the milk from the animals! The family was so lovely and friendly, we would definitely recommend them!
Melinda Le — Google review
Had dinner here today and it was the best food we had in Sri Lanka! The food is all cooked from scratch with ingredients from their garden. Definitely worth the trip out there. The staff is extremely friendly and it was a great experience overall!

We booked a cooking class with Amba Kola and it was a great experience. It's a must do if you're in Udawalawe! You are treated like family, everyone was so caring and lovely! The food cooked during the class was also DELICIOUS! Their mom is an amazing chef! If we spent more days in Udawalawe we would have ate there everyday! I also saw the rooms that they are renting and they are clean and comfy! Thank you Janik and Louise for going above and taking us around to see the sights in Udawalawe after dinner!

We tried Cheese Kottu and Mixed Kottu and it was delicious. They also respected our request that it wouldn’t be spicy and it’s the first place in Sri Lanka that manages to do just that! Thank you for a great dinner!🙏🏼
Alexandra Valeanu — Google review
Wonderful atmosphere and friendly staff. But unfortunately my experience was not so good. The meals are too salty and full of MSG. I hope the management will take actions for that.
Kavindu Priyankara — Google review
Almost European style restaurant, very good food, good prices and great beer promotions! 860 rupees for four Lion Ice is a very good deal, especially compared to the (touristic) town of Ella where you're easily charged 1.000 rupees for a single beer. So great experience, with very friendly staff! ^_^

nice cold beers, food was ok, chips a bit cold and tuna sandwich was a little soggy. Could have been either fully toasted or not. Very welcome service after a long walk.

Great food! Had pork with mushrooms, really delicious. They only had 7up, Pepsi and water for drinking, more on the menu but not available in the restaurant. But the food was very great, so still 5 stars.

Love this spot. Was here on the 15th of Feb and our server was so smiley and friendly. Made great cocktails and the whiskey was very tasty! We ordered the crispy chicken to share and ordered a second portion promptly. Laura loved her beer and chicken!

A lovely place where you have to eat! I tried my first Kottu (means « to shop » ) the Sri Lanka dish by excellence. The portions are very generous, the waiter will guide you in your choices and explain the details of each dish (thank you for your patience btw), on the other side of the room you'll find a charming bar to have your beer while playing billiards. Fresh juices as well.

Lovely place next to the Udawalawe National Reserve. We visited for dinner and had a great experience; we had the Chicken Kotthu and Chicken Masala and both were tasty! The place is very well decorated and super clean. What made this experience stand out was the quality of the service provided by Lakmal; he was very welcoming, friendly and payed attention to our every need and personal preferences. Thanks again!
