Seki Post Town

Historical landmark
Neighborhoods
Seki Post Town is a historical landmark that offers visitors the opportunity to explore a preserved town filled with traditional buildings and cultural sites. This quaint town may lack impact when compared to other road stations like Narai, Tsumago, and Magome. Nonetheless, it remains a cool and nice place that's definitely worth visiting. Its rich history and well-preserved architecture make it an enjoyable destination for travelers seeking insight into Japan's past.
Just so cute, barely saw anyone in the time we were there though. Collected some stamps from beginning to end. There are museums, cute cafes and quirky shops.

Old post town, you should definitely visit this in night. With the lights its going to be awesome

One of the old postal towns from the Edo era… nice!
Dirk Hebecker — Google review
It’s certainly not touristy so it’s good if you love quiet. It’s a charming little place where you can see the old buildings and soak in the architecture. But it’s also precisely it’s so off the beaten track that there really isn’t much to do (unlike kawagoe) but still, perfect cause it just means more photo opportunities without rando tourists photobombing your shots. Look out for the fresh eggs vending machine (across from the public parking lot) We stayed till night to just see a little of the lights.

Very nice little post town with lots of Edo era houses on the main street, however come off the main street and it's just a normal suburban Japanese town, I realise mid December is not the best time to go but there wasnt many shops open, but if you like coffee shops and bars there is a few nice looking ones on offer, the main shrine is certainly something to see as it's look great but there isn't much on offer beyond that, 1 day is more than enough time to enjoy the town
Christopher Strickland — Google review
Off the beaten tourist track, a beautiful place that we arrived at for sunset just to wonder the streets and take photographs. Not sure what it is like during the day when the shops are open but there was very little open in the evening. We stayed in an Airbnb and had a car which made stopping here possible but worth a visit if it’s on your route.

A great small town to walk around in and have lunch whilst feeling what ancient Japan was like. It’s like Takayama but not so crowded.
Rosina Mansson-Passeggi — Google review
Delightful but very quiet on a weekday. Good see the old architecture, and learn about the historical Post Town. Recommend the bean paste mochi, and the replica bean paste mochi charms.

Roadside station Sekijuku is a charming stop along the route from Omihachiman to Matsusaka. It offers an array of locally produced farm goods and crafted souvenirs, as well as a cafe serving regional cuisine and sweets. Cyclists will appreciate this stop due to its affordable and fresh lunch options, making it an ideal location for stocking up on road food.
Arrived by bicycle from Omihachiman on my way to Matsusaka. Lunch in this Michi no Eki was cheap, tasty and fresh and above all cheap. Held a variety of local produce, so I stocked up on road food. Good clean amenities block and loads of information on local area and Koka. If you are a cyclist add this to your lunch stops.

(Translated by Google) I visited you on Friday, March 22, 2024 at around 11:00 am. Although this roadside station was small, it was a very charming and nice place. There weren't many vegetables or lunch boxes, but they had a great variety of souvenirs. The products are carefully arranged and there is also a handwritten sign next to it, which increases the desire to purchase. We have posted a list of popular menu items at restaurants in an easy-to-understand manner. I ate here, and the raccoon rice ball from the limited menu "Sakura Shrimp Kakiage Udon Set" was delicious. This rice ball was also sold separately here and at the shop. The toilet was also clean and felt nice.

We also have a wide variety of souvenirs and Kameyama specialties. As for the food, you'll be satisfied with the local Kameyama ramen, miso-yaki udon, and tonteki. Mie Prefectural Kameyama Sunshine Park is a well-maintained open space and picnic area that features a pond, BBQ facilities, and play equipment for children. The park boasts excellent air quality with minimal pollution, and the serene lake provides a picturesque view. Walking through the dense formation of trees surrounding the park offers peaceful relaxation while in the evening, children can be seen enjoying the playgrounds. The wooden castle has been replaced with a metal one featuring two slides.
Nice park. Maintained very well. Air quality is very good with less pollution. A lake present in that park is very nice. Very peaceful for walking. In evening time lot of children used to play in that park. Lot of tree's available in dense formation in and around the park. I was happy to be in that place. Have a good time.

There are only large play equipment and small play equipment. The kids had fun, but like other highway oasis, there's nothing for adults to do. There's no need to come all the way here to have a BBQ. (Translated by Google) Nobono Shrine As stated in the historical record, it is a relatively new shrine that was built in 1902. The shrine building is Shinmei-zukuri style, with Chigi carved outside and an odd number of five bonito trees, making it a Geku-style building. The deity enshrined is Nihon Takeru (Yamato Takeru no Mikoto) from the adjacent tomb of Nihon Takeru. There are various theories, but it is said that he suffered a fatal injury on Mt. Ibuki on his way back to Nara after conquering the east, and died in this area. Considering that Kasato Shrine, which enshrines Nihon Takeru as its enshrined deity, was built earlier, Nihon Takeru died of exhaustion at Shiratori Tumulus, and the hat and cane he was wearing at that time were left behind there. The body was buried by his relatives in this place where his younger brother Tachibana Hime was born, and it was passed down as a legend, but in 1888, the Ministry of the Imperial Household came to the conclusion that it was the tomb of Takeru Nihon. This was the impetus for the establishment of Nohono Shrine. If so, I think the relationship between Kasato Shrine and this Nobono Shrine will be established.
