Lanzhou

Lanzhou is the capital city of northwest China's Gansu province. The Waterwheel Expo Garden and Yellow River Mother Sculpture are on the south bank of the Yellow River. The Gansu Provincial Museum displays artifacts from the area’s Silk Road past. Wuquanshan Park has a relaxed vibe and ancient temples. Across the Zhongshan Bridge, the White Pagoda sits atop a mountain in Baitashan Park.

History Museums
Gansu Provincial Museum showcases a collection of well-preserved artifacts spanning over 8000 years of human settlement in the region, from dinosaur age to modern times. The museum highlights the significance of Silk Road relics, jade carvings, Buddhist art and fossils among other historical artefacts. It contains an exceptional collection of ceramics, pottery and bronze pieces that date back to as early as 4000BC.
This museum has a lot of priceless treasures, which is definitely the best way for you to understand the whole Gansu Province. Although tickets are not required, there may be a charge for audio guide equipment.

I was allowed free entry to this excellent museum after showing my passport at the museum ticket office. The museum catalogues the history of Gansu from the age of the dinosaurs to the modern day including well preserved artefacts over 8000 years of continual human settlement. The Silk Road is emphasized, as per local political expectations, but the collection of ceramics, pottery and bronze pieces is at least as impressive. Many of these pieces date back to as early as 4000BC. As a Westerner I also found the political story of the revolution interesting because the faces and artefacts helped humanize this transformational period of Chinese history.

Bridge
Sights & Landmarks
The Zhongshan Bridge is a historical landmark, built in 1909 over the Yellow River with five steel arches. It was one of the first bridges constructed in this area and has undergone renovations to make it stronger. Now closed to traffic, it serves as a pedestrian walkway offering great views of the river banks. The bridge boasts an archaic design and contains informative displays about its history, including English translations.
This bridge is a must see in Lanzhou. I would recommend coming at night because the weather is more cool with a slight breeze but be prepared for the place to be swarming with visitors. The bridge lights up at night and changes color frequently. I went on a Saturday night and it was filled with tourists taking pictures at every angle. It is definitely harder to take a picture at night so if you’re here for pictures, come early in the morning.

Pretty iconic spot to take some pictures. Nothing really interesting to see aside from its historical background of the river. Still worth the visit to get some cool instagramable photos!

Wa being told that Zhongshan Bridge is the first bridge across the Yellow River. Through the years, it has been renovated to be a solid but yet very interesting bridge. Fun to walk across the bridge with many great views at either side of the banks. Love the designs of the bridge ie very archaic in appearance. And great information (in English too) of the history of this bridge.

Nice bridge... Cross the two sides of the the yellow river. Always get the feeling of the history.
Marco S (MarcoVolo) — Google review
This is a typical Chinese thing. There is a bridge over the yellow river that is unfit for cars, so it is a pedestrian bridge and got colourful lights that show off in the evening. Named after a person of high reputation in China (who would probably be imprisoned today for being liberal), it is considered special, just by the name. It is nice to cross to look at the river. There is the usual rock at the entrance of the bridge where one can have one's photo taken, very important. An attraction in a city without other attractions. Better go for the food which is great.
Wolfgang Aull — Google review
One of the first bridges in this area built over the yellow river. Now it is pedestrian only, so it’s a pretty nice place to walk about and get some breeze from the river.

Built in Quin dynasty , said to be the first bridge that crossed Yellow River (but I am not as sure), and blessed by Dr Sun Yatsang, otherwise not much to miss.

One of the "must visit tourist site" in Lanzhou City. Best time to visit this site is in the evening after sunset. The lights along the bridge and the buildings at the background make the site very beautiful. A fantastic treat for photographic enthusiasts. There are walking paths along the way and on the bridge. Visitors on wheelchairs have no problem visiting the sites.

(Translated by Google) The Xiguan Mosque in Lanzhou was built by Muslim merchants and is commonly known as the "guest temple". It is located at the west end of Xiguan Street, Lanzhou City (the west end of Linxia Road, the intersection of five roads). It was first built in the Hongwu or Yongle years of the Ming Dynasty. According to historical records, it was rebuilt in 1684 (the 23rd year of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty). It was expanded during the Yongzheng period, and in the early years of the Republic of China, the street pavilion and the bathing room in the courtyard were expanded. The temple covers an area of more than 4,800 square meters (about 7.5 acres). The original temple includes three parts: the outer courtyard with large screen wall and bathing room; the inner courtyard with Bangke Building and worship hall; and the north courtyard with study rooms and dormitories. The main gate, Bangke Tower, and worship hall are all Chinese palace-style buildings with cornices and raised corners. Their outstanding feature is that the main hall, Bangke Tower and the second gate are connected by corridors, with four floors and six eaves, and a height of 16 to 17 meters. The Bangke Tower matches the majestic and solemn main hall with ingenious shape, which can accommodate thousands of people for worship. It appears to be magnificent, with reasonable layout and unique ingenuity. It is the messenger of Lanzhou City Mosque. It was once a provincial key cultural relics protection unit. However, They were all demolished during the "Cultural Revolution". After the Third Plenary Session of the Eleventh Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, the ethnic and religious policies were implemented. At the urgent request of the Muslim people, in April 1983, Qiao Liansheng and Wan Yaobin, directors of the State Council’s Religious Affairs Bureau, together with relevant provincial and municipal leaders and the Muslim people, adopted state funding to promote religious education. Through voluntary donations from the masses, the Xiguan Mosque will be rebuilt on its original site. After completion, it will be open to domestic and foreign Muslim guests, restoring its status as a "guest temple" in history. In March 1986, a temple construction committee was formed under the leadership of Ma Shengjun, deputy mayor of Lanzhou City, and engineer Wang Honglie (Hui nationality) was hired as the plenipotentiary representative to start the construction work. After more than two years, we overcame various difficulties and spent more than 1.45 million yuan to build a worship hall with a construction area of 3,000 square meters. The total height of the hall is about 37 meters. It is divided into four floors. The bottom floor is 3.9 meters high and has offices. , lecture hall, dormitory, storage room, bathing room, and a small chapel for women. The upper three floors are the worship hall, which can accommodate more than 3,000 people. There is also a scripture storage room, a broadcast room, and a rest room on the surface of the horse gallery. (Translated by Google) Ma Zilu Beef Noodles is a century-old restaurant. In Lanzhou, there are Dazhongxiang main store, Cultural Palace branch and railway station store. Mazilu beef noodles are slices of meat. The beef is okay, tender and flavorful; it is served with garlic sprouts and coriander. To be honest, there are not many slices of beef, so if you like meat, you can add beef in sauce. I have chosen clear soup beef noodles and braised beef noodles. Strictly speaking, the taste is average. Locals recommend another Chenji Beef Noodles (175 Xigu East Road) and Wumulepeng Gray Beef Noodles (Beibinhe West Road). No. 2168) You can also taste it and compare!
