Flying Horses Carousel a Vineyard Preservation Trust Property

Mentioned on
Amusement park ride
Sights & Landmarks
The Flying Horses Carousel, located in Oak Bluffs, is the oldest operating platform merry-go-round in the US. The antique ride features 20 stationary horses painted with vibrant colors and intricate details. Visitors can also try their luck at grabbing iconic brass rings as they ride. This attraction is not just for kids, but also a fun afternoon activity for adults who can appreciate the hand-carved beauty of the horses. Come experience this magical piece of American history that has delighted visitors since 1884.
Our wait was short...under 3-5 minutes, and during which we watched others. The cost was $4 per person per ride, or $35 for 10 rides. The kids (and adults) love the thrills of grabbing rings on the outside or inside and the possibility of getting the brass ring which wins one a free ride
Maria Breuninger — Google review
They have FLYING horses... I mean, come on. It's historic. I always go here when in town. I am not beneath giving the kids money, in exchange for their horse rings, just so that I can be the flying horse winner, just sayn. Not sorry. 😁
Name First — Google review
Best carousel I have ever been on. Fun mini game with rings while riding keeps both kids and adults entertained!
Sab Fern — Google review
WOW 😳...I happened to be scrolling by to show my grandkids where I went to summer camp at...When I seen the horse carousel 🎠 it brought back memories from the 1960s playing endlessly day after day on the horses... when you got a gold ring it really made you feel special...I can't believe they are still in business... Thanks for the GOOD memories...🥰
Angel is Sowell — Google review
Very fun! Get the brass ring and get to go again for free! A little expensive but historic!
Jason Christenson — Google review
What a treat to experience the oldest platform carousel ride in America! Give little ones a heads up that the horses are stationary - unlike today’s amusement park horses. Plus, don’t miss out on the ring game. Try to win a free ride by grabbing a brass ring! This little gem of a spot is worth stopping by for family fun!
Karyn Martin — Google review
It was so much hot and humid inside the building that I didn’t want to stay there, but kids were so excited about the carousel. Kids had great fun , however I couldn’t stand the tiny hot place with so many people.
Jitender Bhati — Google review
This was a cute and quick stop. It's the oldest carousel in operation.
Mike Gallagher — Google review
While passing through Oak Bluffs we read an article about a woman retiring from working at The Flying Horses Carousel named Robin. After lunch at Lookout Tavern (amazing lobster rolls) we walked over to the Horses. They were just past closing but we popped in and were fortunate to meet Robin and she shared the history of the carousel and it’s 150 years of entertaining so many. What a treasure!!
Blake Thomas — Google review
I did not ride the Carousel, but it was unlike any one I've seen. Riders tried to collect as many meatal rings they ciuld and whoever collected the most, received a free ride! Neat concept and Oldesr Carousel in the US :)
April Dupree — Google review
I totally tried to win at the ring toss game. If you want to get good pictures, go towards the back of the arcade near the photo booth. The door is open and you can take pictures of the carrousel unobstructed by people.
Alex Alapatt — Google review
So fun to have this nice little piece of history! Our 4 year old loves it!
Rebekah White — Google review
Beautiful antique carousel! We went during the off season (late September) so it's only open for rides on weekends, but they had it open for a few hours for photos on a Wednesday which was great.
Mandee F — Google review
Very interactive. It is not your typical carousel, where you just sit and ride the horse. While riding, the goal is to pull some rings, out of a sleeve. These rings grant you free rides. I thought it was very entertaining. Plus, it is the oldest operating carousel! How cool is that!
Yasmin Sanchez — Google review
Always so much fun! However I believe today has beat my record of the most times I’ve gone on without getting off a hourse @ all! Which was absolutely no complaints from my 2yr old. Contributing to my multiple rides was either my self or two-year-old won a free ride by getting the brass ring. If your not familiar with the flying horses, then it allows you to stay on the carousel for a free ride, or option of receiving a “golden ticket” to use in the future for free! To sum it up, I personally don’t visit MV without having the flying horses @ the top of my priority list of activities to enjoy while visiting the island.

Such a fun spot!! The history is interesting as well— definitely Google beforehand to understand the Methodist roots of the area

What a great summer place. The houses are all decorated wonderfully. A great place to raise kids. It's nice and shady to walk around.
Mary Farmer — Google review
This place was pretty neat but not really worth spending a lot of time on. I drove through the area and was able to see everything within about 5 minutes. There really wasn't much parking available, so I didn't have a choice. I guess they have events during the busy season but the pavilion was closed when I was there.
A.J. H — Google review
Beautiful to walk around the circle of these historic gingerbread homes in Oak Bluffs. Very shady nice area also just off the main drag of shops and eateries.
Y B — Google review
Family first came in 1964. Again in 1968. Dad bought a cottage in 1969. Been part of the community ever since. It is a place of historical spiritual Revival and community. A tranquil and peaceful place away from the crowds. Summer activities, concerts, church services, even high school graduation in the Tabernacle. A historical, architectural, religious community since 1835.
Cary Calls — Google review
I recommend walking off of the main circle. You can get up close the the houses and you can even see inside some if the people are on the porch with the door open. You can also see that these houses are somewhat modern with propane tanks and power transformers.
Alex Alapatt — Google review
Lovely place to look at beautiful homes. I think it could get a bit crowded in summer.

The history museum is closed now, but there's lots of awesome gingerbread houses around this area, which is always good to take a walk : )

Totally one of it's kind attraction with cottages of all vivid colors... !! Do not miss the smallest circular path of all the circuits. Also, remember this is a quaint residential area so no cars, scooters or biking (walking your bike is ok) allowed here.

The mile-long expanse of cliffs boasts a variety of colorful layers resulting from natural processes over millions of years. A top attraction on the island, this observation point provides sweeping views of the Atlantic Ocean, Gay Head Lighthouse and lush vegetation.
Beautiful. Lots of parking. Very short walk to lookout. Bathrooms/food/local shops open during busy season.

One of my favorite beaches in MV. Pics say it all, it's gorgeous! A bit of a walk from parking but it's doable and the view is so scenic while you walk down that it feels quick ❤️ highly recommend as a stop while you're on the island! Sunsets here are incredible.

Absolutely beautiful and a must see on Martha Vineyard. Picturesque and well worth the drive. The lighthouse is working as well.

A must for any visit to Martha’s Vineyard. Spectacular ocean, beach, and lighthouse views. Awesome heritage insights and information. Free self touring. Great prices at the small, local shops.

Best place in the island to take in the sunset with a peaceful backdrop. The view is to die for and the island vibe is its most fulfilling. Far from the city with a beautiful lush summer landscape and positive vibes.

Gorgeous views. Do much erosion! All shops closed this time of year. Lighthouse moved 600 feet due to erosion.

The loveliest beaches on the Cape Island! A hidden gem tucked a good drive from the Bluffs, it is worth coming here and enveloping yourself in the nature and history of the island. So calm and relaxing!
R S s — Google review
Aquinnah Beach, this past winter there was a lot of erosion. At high tide there was limited places to layout on the sand before and after it is ok. The cliffs are stunning and is a beautiful place to visit but this year if you are looking for a great beach day pay attention to the tides.
Frank Connors — Google review
Beautiful view of the cliffs. Thanks to the PD and FD for a well run Public Safety day. We loved the State police helicopter
John McCauslin — Google review
A couple of small shops and a coffee place. The overlook area is nice and seems recently outfitted. Nice views of the area. Be careful in the grass as we found two ticks on our dog after barely walking around.
Jordan Simons — Google review
Great spot for shopping and grabbing a bite, drink, or some ice cream while you look out over the ocean and the cliffs. While there stop by the lighthouse and climb to the top. It's worth it for the view. And if you love sunsets the cliffs is a must go to destination.
Edwin Held — Google review
Beautiful outlook. Came here in the off season and definitely adds to the beauty when you have it all to yourself. There were restrooms and small shops/places to grab food nearby, which were closed when we went. Definitely a must see on the island!

Beautiful!!! It was too cold to walk around this time of year and the nearby shops were closed but it's so gorgeous here.

Beautiful place. The bus comes every hour. There is parking and a bike rack (we biked from Edgartown but it took us several hours!) Don't miss out on the lighthouse and the trail down to the beach either.
Pavel Samsonov — Google review
Quaint lighthouse along the cliffs overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. A few shops are open for tourists, around 4. A Cafe is open and a diner too, that's it. Good place to go biking with rolling hills but not too high. Watch out for winds though, it can get brutal but the road is mostly empty.

Sights & Landmarks
Lighthouse Beach, situated near Edgartown Village, is a picturesque oceanfront location featuring a sandy beach and an expansive open space ideal for picnicking and gatherings. Visitors can relish the sight of the iconic Edgartown Lighthouse against a backdrop of warm waters in summer and splendid views stretching out over the Edgartown Outer Harbor towards Chappaquiddick Island.
Beautiful and breathtaking beach in the Cape Cod, Massachusetts area! The lighthouses gives this place its name and for good reason. The white sandy beaches are perfect to walk and sit on! The water is a beautiful blue color although a little bit on the chilly side. Plenty of parking is available although it does fill up fast on the weekends and holidays. Very clean and safe! My favorite beach in the northeastern part of the country!
Kylie Mangini — Google review
Great and quiet beach to visit. Hardly anyone there on Sunday afternoon. We were fortunate enough to see a seal as an added bonus!

Easy walk to the lighthouse offers beautiful views all around. Worth the climb to the top for a small donation.
Bob Gomez — Google review
Beautiful beach with clear warm shallow water. If you go early you won't have problem to park but remember you can park and stay 2 hours. Until 11.30 we never had problem moving the car to another spot. You walk 5 minutes (I think less) to get to the lighthouse. The walk is very beautiful, peaceful and the view all around is so...perfect. The is not crowded, most of the people come see the lighthouse and go. Some people walk there with their dogs...not many people stay at the beach for a long time. Lots of beautiful seashells. Absolutely a must see.
Arianna Benassi — Google review
Take a break from down town Egartowm and enjoy a stroll along the water, past beautifully manicured mansions and yards until you arrive at the paths to lighthouse beach. It's a nice hike with plenty of scenery on both sides of the path. The lighthouse is beautiful and a great photo op with the family. When open, the stairs to the top lead to a awesome 360 degree panoramic view. The beach is not huge, but there is plenty of room to hang out and enjoy watching the sail boats in the harbor.
Cal Calamari — Google review
Loved that we could walk in the sand to see the lighthouse up close. We enjoyed watching the seagulls dropping shells to release the food on the rocks around the base.
Cherie Peters — Google review
Relaxing short walk with nice 360 degree view of pretty much everywhere. Neat lighthouse. Nice calm sandy beach and a little boat yard. Peaceful.
Ashley Hill — Google review
The beach was beautiful. There is a long path to get there, but it was a nice chill place with little to no waves. The lighthouse looked well maintained but there is a fee to go in and a person inside to collect money. There were more dead jelly fish than I have ever seen here.

The Island Alpaca Company is an excellent venue for those in search of fun and unique activities to do on Martha's Vineyard. The farm, which functions as a working alpaca farm, provides an opportunity for visitors to engage with these delightful and fuzzy creatures up close. Additionally, the onsite store offers various cool souvenirs related to alpacas.
Reasonably priced entry. Easy to find if driving. Also, on the local Bus route from Vineyard Haven. Ample Parking, great serene ambiance and a gift shop. Oh.. and.. did I mention that there are friggn ALPACAS here!! 😁 Awesome! Loved it! Accommodating staff. Just a great experience.

I adore this site! The alpacas are so entertaining to watch, the people that work with the alpacas are hard working and amazing. I have yet to visit the farm but I hope to do that sometime this year. I have purchased from their gift shop over the holidays. This is a pic of my favorite alpaca "Lilliana"! She is funny, goofy, and charming! Looking forward to meeting her some day soon!

Unique experience on the island. Highly recommended especially if you have kids. We were unable to get on time for the alpaca walking tour but would highly recommend to do it. Thwy do the tour only twice a day depending on their feeding times.

Nice to see these animals. It takes about 30 mins bus ride. There is a bus stop at the front entrance to Edgartown. $5 entrance per person
Mahal143 — Google review
Fun cute little farm to visit and watch the alpacas. You can pet them only if you book the walking tour else its just you trying to reach over the wooden fence. They won't allow inside be cause they're sense strangers as a threat. Interesting animals. Mixed genders and colors at the farm. They also have some llamas at the time I visited. They have whole Alpaca store with obviously everything Alpaca related accessories, clothing etc... in the back and also another small area with another group of alpacas and a couple of llamas. Friendly staff. You'd spend about an hour here. Overall it's worth it if you're interested in watching and learning about the Alpacas.

For those seeking an exceptional and distinctive experience on Martha's Vineyard, the alpaca farm presents a delightful opportunity. Easily accessible by car, with ample parking available, the farm provides a convenience that is matched only by its charm. Upon entry, visitors are greeted with a serene ambiance that sets the stage for a tranquil and pleasurable experience. The reasonably priced admission offers access to an array of attractions, but the highlight is undoubtedly the alpaca walk. Guided by knowledgeable and engaging staff, this unique encounter provides an intimate connection with the alpacas, creatures whose grace and beauty are sure to captivate. The presence of the alpacas themselves cannot be overstated; their gentle nature and endearing appearance are a central feature of the farm. Their presence adds an undeniable allure that is both memorable and enchanting. Moreover, the farm boasts a well-curated gift shop, stocked with a fine selection of alpaca-themed souvenirs and products. It serves as an excellent reminder of the visit and allows guests to take a piece of the experience home with them.

One of my favorite places to visit on the island. It's amazing that they don't charge to see the alpacas but I always make a donation anyway. This place is so cute and fun. Lots of great gifts in the gift shop.

Alpacas up close and the shop is phenomenal.

I had the best time at Island Alpaca! It’s super cute and very easy to get to. We took an Uber from Oak Bluffs and spent a few hours hanging out with the Alpacas. It’s only $5 a person to walk through the small farm area that is set up. At first I thought there’s wasn’t going to be enough to do (as we had planned out a few hours to be here) but next thing I knew time had flow by! They have a very cute gift shop with everything from hats and gloves to toys all made from alpaca fur. It’s a little pricy but totally worth it for a fun and unique gift!
Tate B — Google review
Definitely the most unique thing we did on Martha's Vineyard! They had lots of alpacas and you are allowed to pet them (they are so incredibly soft!) I could have stayed all day watching them! We learned lots of interesting facts about the alpacas from the employees. They do have aplaca walks and yoga if you want to get even closer. But its 100% worth the trip and the $5 entry fee
Carly Dodds — Google review
Great, relaxing experience! The alpacas are adorable and we were lucky to see 2 babies. I wish there was more interaction as their photos show. We watched and briefly interacted with the alpacas through a wooden fence. I would say it’s worth a 20 minute visit!

A very unique experience with these cute animals when visiting Martha's Vineyard. You will be tempted to take one of alpacas home with you. If you wait for the next set of walking tours you might even hold one of them and walk with them. Definitely a fun visit especially with kids.

The seafood restaurant Martha's Vineyard Chowder Company is a popular spot on Martha's Vineyard for its namesake soup as well as delicious dishes made with fresh seafood. Menu items include pan-seared scallops, roasted chicken breast, grilled Atlantic salmon salad, Gouda maca-roni and cheese, and more. The restaurant has won multiple awards for having the best chowder in town and was named one of Boston Mag-azine's top new restaurants in 2012.
Highly Recommend Chowder Company. I’ve eaten there numerous times and never been disappointed in the slightest. I’ve noticed it’s always clean, food is hot, and never served sloppy. Staff is friendly and helpful if you have questions about anything. I recently tried the new Kelp Burger and found it to be very good. The chowder is honestly the best tasting I’ve ever had. Having grown up in the restaurant business I consider myself to be a very good critic on Dino g out. I might add I’ve gotten takeout a before too and never disappointed. If I could give 10 stars I certainly would. Highly and strongly recommended !

They delivered on the promise of a great bowl of chowder. One of the best cup of chowder I have had in a while. The atmosphere is very nice -inviting and unassuming. Every dish we tried were quality and delicious. The staff are very nice and pleasant. Will definitely stop by next time we are in the area.

I love chowder, so naturally this had to be a stop on our tour. We sat at the bar and the bartender was very attentive. I ordered a cup of clam chowder and hubby ordered Skillet Beef Queso Dip. The restaurant/bar was not busy maybe 6 or so people at the bar including us and 4 or 5 tables with people and it took like 25 minutes to get our food. Which seemed strange I would think what we ordered would basically be ready or well along its way of being started ahead of time. The chowder came out warm not hot and was loaded with celery I mean more celery than clams. The flavor was ok, but I was expecting it to knock my socks off with “Chowder” in the restaurant name. The Queso Dip was lacking the “loaded with ground beef” as a matter of fact it was hard to find any beef. The flavor of the dip was good and the tortillas chips were fresh. We did meet some locals and had a great chat with them which made the stop worthwhile.

I was looking for some good fish and chips, and saw some great looking pictures of the menu items here and figured it was worth a shot. The fish and chips were so good! I love how the batter was nice and thin, light, and crispy! You also got a huge piece of fish which I ate right up! Our server was great and very attentive. We were in and out quickly with full tummies.

After a long day exploring and sightseeing on Martha's Vineyard, our tour suggested we eat here. We had every reason to believe him because he's lived on the island his whole life. I'm glad I took his suggestion. The award winning clam chowder was exquisite as well as the meaty lobster roll. If you're ever on Martha's Vineyard, give this place a try.
Robert Sullivan — Google review
Sat on the deck and enjoyed the people watching. It was a bit tight. Had the hot lobster roll (massive), lobster dumplings, clam stuffers. It was all excellent. The lobster dumplings were like crab Rangoon but you could taste the lobster. The cocktails were great too.
Chris Mann — Google review
Hands down, The biggest and BEST shrimp roll that I ever ate!! The chowdaahh was also up there with the best I have ever had. The prices were high as expected up in Cape Cod, but it was so worth it! The server was super friendly and efficient. The restaurant was clean and the silverware was shiny. Not too sure about the parking situation we took the ferry over.
Ronnie T. — Google review
The food is consistently excellent. The selection of oyster shooters were fun, creative, and crave-worthy. We went during peak season and it was busy but the manager came to us to see how we were enjoying our food and experience and had done this to other tables which was very welcoming and an awesome touch. An island gem but I'll warn you that if you try the chowder, you will fall in love and it may ruin any other chowder experience you have at other places.
L. L. Bigby — Google review
The Chowder will get better in due time. The service was extremely slow. We waited 50+ minutes for our food that would usually take 20 minutes to get ready. I will return and hope for better service.

Loved the place. I love seafood, but my husband does not, but luckily the restaurant has good options for everyone. The chowder that gave it name is amazing and so is the lobster roll. OMG, that was a very fair portion of lobster for the money! Also, super fresh. We went off season, therefore we caught a very calm, local vibe. Friendly staff and clean tables and bathrooms. Totally recommend.

Didn’t enjoy the food. The potato’s were cold in several spots and had hard uncooked chunks of potato. The sauce tasted like sweet A1 sauce. It really just wasn’t my favorite. Responding to the establishment - I didn’t order alcohol. Shows the level of service and maturity.

Wow! The best clam chowder! Filled with carefully cut up pieces of the potatoes and clams delightfully seasoned and gluten free!!! Had to sample my Nieces lobster Mac, creamy, cheesy, and lobster beyond expectation! Other family members raved about the lobster roll which coukd also be made gluten free! As New Yorkers, they were totally immersed in the flavor!! We came just before closing, and took it to go, which can be sketchy, but it was an incredible meal to enjoy on the last ferry home! Thanks!

MV Chowder Company in Oak Bluffs is an absolute gem for both locals and visitors alike. Their award-winning clam chowder, uniquely prepared without bacon or gluten, is a revelation in itself. The creamy, velvety broth is rich with the essence of the sea, while tender clams add a delightful textural contrast. It's a testament to their commitment to flavor, ensuring that every diner can savor this maritime classic. Additionally, their Lobster Roll, adorned with bacon and preserved lemon, is a stroke of culinary genius. The smoky, salty notes of bacon complement the sweet, succulent lobster meat beautifully, and the preserved lemon adds a zesty brightness that elevates the entire experience!!!! What sets MV Chowder Company apart is not only their exceptional menu but also their unwavering dedication to the community. Open year-round, it serves as a comforting beacon for locals, providing a welcoming space to gather and enjoy fantastic food. The menu caters to diverse tastes, ensuring there's something for everyone, whether you're a seafood enthusiast or prefer other delectable options. The cozy ambiance and top-notch service (Jeff is the best server ever!!) further enhance the dining experience, making MV Chowder Company a must on Martha's Vineyard.

10/22/2023 This place was on point! I have to say it was by far the best fish and chips I’ve ever had. Perfect flakiness, amazing flavor, and huge portion size. The clam chowder was loaded. We got an order of crab cakes and I am so glad I did. Do yourself a favor and order them, the sauce was so good!! I used that sauce for the crab cakes and fish. This truly is one of my favorite places and I try fish and chips and chowder pretty anywhere I go. Huge shout out to the cooks and all the servers. We will be back every time we are at the Island.

New American restaurant
Atria is a new, upscale American restaurant on the Vineyard with an indoor-outdoor dining experience. The restaurant is divided into sections for casual and elegant dining, with the Brick Cellar Bar adjoining it. The drinks are fun and the atmosphere is cozy.
Upstairs is more formal - White table cloth fine dining. Downstairs is more casual - wine cellar/Irish pub feel. We tried both and they're phenomenal. Best burger on the island.
Patrick Curley — Google review
Conflicting feelings about Atria…. Let’s start with the good: atmosphere. The place is beautiful, and it’s got great vibes. The lobster / shrimp / scallop special was also phenomenal - we split it, and it was one of the best things we’ve had this week, and the presentation was super fun. This dish was the MVP of the meal, but it ends there… The not so good: regarding the food, everything else we had was unfortunately mediocre. We had the arugula peach salad (peaches were under ripe and the grilled cheese was like lunchables). The bread service is a joke. While the butter was impressive, the actual bread (which they buy from a bakery) was $7 for 4 small slices, and was so stale and dry, it made saltines seem Michelin star. Lastly, the cookies advertised on the menu as “the best cookies you’ve ever had” is the joke of the century. If you make a claim like that, you better back it up. I’d rather have a Twinkie Beautiful restaurant, but food not worth the cost unfortunately

Our family has been eating here every summer for the past ten years and somehow they continue to blow us away. Tonight cocktails, apps, entrees, wine, dessert all outstanding! Thanks to Sam and his amazing staff! Best restaurant by far on the Island.

This is probably one of the best, if not THE best restaurant on the island. The attention to detail was incredibly impressive, from the choice of plates to the appetizers to the main course. They even read my Resy notes about our anniversary and had a hand written card ready for us. For starters we got the burrata ravioli (which in my opinion should also be offered as a main course). For the main we opted for the charred zucchini and the tuna steak (special) both of which to die for. This restaurant really should be on the Michelin app list. From the hosts to the waiters (Mat was great and knowledgeable) to the Chefs, really thank you for an amazing job

Atria is my favorite restaurant on Martha’s Vineyard! The waitstaff is friendly and accommodating and I love eating outside on their tented patio. We’ve come annually to this restaurant for the past 20 years and it never disappoints. On our last trip to the island we came 3 times because we couldn’t get enough! The heirloom tomato and little leaf green salads are amazing, as well the cod and angel hair pasta. My kids are all about the Atria burgers! Last time we got an enormous steak and split it three ways- my mom was literally gnawing on the bone, it was so good lol. A definite must do when you’re on island!

From the moment we stepped foot into the restaurant, we were greeted with warm hospitality and a charming atmosphere. The food at Atria was exceptional. Each dish was beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. The menu offered a delightful blend of classic and innovative dishes, catering to a range of palates. The freshness of the ingredients was evident in every bite. The service was impeccable. The staff was attentive, knowledgeable, and went above and beyond to ensure our dining experience was memorable. They offered excellent recommendations and were always ready to assist with any requests. The ambiance of the restaurant was elegant and inviting. We enjoyed the intimate setting, which created a cozy and romantic atmosphere for our dinner. The decor was tastefully done, adding a touch of sophistication to the overall experience. Overall, Atria in Martha's Vineyard exceeded our expectations in every way. It is a true gem that combines exceptional food, top-notch service, and a captivating ambiance. We highly recommend it to anyone seeking a memorable dining experience on the island.

Atria has an amazing atmosphere and incredible food and drink. We shared several appetizers and each was incredible in both presentation and taste. The staff doesn’t miss a beat—drinks refilled at the perfect time. Incredible outdoor setting on the lawn with Games, fun for all ages. The dinner is artfully displayed and tastes as delicious as presented. We will absolutely be back to enjoy this Vineyard must.

In the top two of our favorite dinners on the island, and also one of our most expensive meals as well (two cocktails were almost $50). For that reason alone, it has to be a 4-of-5 stars (nothing on MV should be this expensive). At least they acknowledged it on their menu with some humor, “Please inform your server if you need a few extra moments to recover from the prices”. In terms of the food - Tomato carpaccio with burrata: fantastically thin tomatoes with super creamy cheese. As expected but tasty. Lobster salad: this was an impressively large portion with nice big chunks of lobster on top of avocado and a fried crunchy tomato. Crab cakes: two veryyyyyy small crab cakes. Crab dense but still obscenely small. I 💜 Momo mushroom dumplings: four decent size dumplings in a nice sauce. Duck a l’orange: as expected. Crispy outside. Two large pieces of duck. Was accompanied with a toast topped with foie gras, but not enough for it to be meaningful. Swordfish: this was actually quite impressive. Flakey, not your typical dense swordfish, and well seasoned. Great dinner….but expect to pay through the nose for it.

Food and service was great. Cocktails were average $15, but they packed a punch. They have three sitting areas (main floor, patio, basement) but both times I came here I only ate in the basement. The burgers in the basement were great. I don’t blame them for the parking but for the stupid people that make parking spaces on their own. I had to do a 68 point turn to get out because a person parked directly behind me. I wish they would have someone directing people where to park.

Atria is hands down our favorite restaurant on the island! We have been going for the past 5 years and it never disappoints. This year Greer hosted our wedding reception and it was beyond anything we could have expected! The staff went above and beyond, food and drinks were amazing, and the venue was BEAUTIFUL! Thank you for having us 🖤

Best restaurant on the island! Whether you want a fancy special occasion dinner or (like me) just want to hang out at the cellar bar. Prices are high but to me it’s a treat yourself kind of place.

Will give five stars because the place is always great and some of the best food on the Vineyard. All our appetizers were delicious, most entrees were, and the desserts looked ridic (and in past visits have been delectable). That being said, for these prices things should be near perfect so a few gripes.. Steak was overcooked BUT upon us notifying they immediately went about preparing a new one. We also had a miss with the papardelle pasta - ended up being pretty watery/soupy which I guess was purposeful but I wouldn't recommend it. The swordfish was a huge cut and very tasty but it was drenched in a salty, buttery, lemony sauce that while good was way too rich/much. Lastly, when we left we realized our waters hadn't been filled for 10 minutes. But those are the nits. All in all highly recommend.

Restaurant
This funky, art-lined restaurant offers seasonal, locally sourced New American dishes in cozy quarters close to the ferry in Oak Bluffs. Theres a lot to love about the hearty and delicious food here, with a changing menu that incorporates local ingredients and seafood options. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable about cocktails too, so youre likely to enjoy a drink while you dine on some of the most inventive dishes on the island.
We headed to the Red Cat Kitchen on the recommendation of some local friends. It was very homey inside and has an open kitchen you can see the owner Ben in his element. We started with sharing a Caesar salad which I did not snap a picture of sorry! It was yummy though. Hubby ordered the Reliable burger and crinkle fries from the bar menu. No picture of the burger he devoured it!! Ha! I ordered the RCK fried chicken that came with whipped potatoes and brussels sprouts slaw. Sorry I just started eating and forgot to snap a picture before I started! Everything was great and we were stuffed!! I also tried the strawberry lemonade which was so tart and yummy!! Hubby had a Sam Adam’s lager. The wait staff was attentive and helpful. We enjoyed our dining here!

A local recommended this spot and it did not disappoint. Did not have a reservation but got seats at the bar. Nice open layout to the restaurant. Spacious bar with a good selection of drinks and spirits. Kevin the bartender was very attentive in spite of being busy. Speciality old fashioned and Manhattan for cocktails. Both were very good. We ordered a couple of appetizers rather than meals. Highly recommend the Brussel Sprouts. Great flavor and enough to share. The Shrimp and Crab cocktail had a good flavor but not stellar. We were surprised how small the shrimp were especially at $28. I would not recommend the shrimp. Overall a great spot and would eat here again.

Nice cozy restaurant conveniently located in town. I had fried oysters (moist on the inside, crunchy on the outside, and plump), swordfish with lobster risotto (swordfish was moist and a nice cut of thickness - lobster risotto was creamy and al dente with nice chunks of lobster), and for desert - chocolate moose (rich chocolaty flavor in a smooth fluffy texture. Food 8/10 Service 10/10 Cleanliness 10/10

I cannot emphasize enough how delicious every dish we got here was. The waitress was lovely too and the back yard ambience. You should come here (and you should also probably make a reservation)

Honest to god, this was one of the best meals the four of us had in a LONG time. Everyone got some type of seafood and it was cooked to perfection. Not cheap, but so so so worth it

Food was 1st rate - limited menu so would not recommend for kids or younger in a party. Great bar, outstanding cocktails, and the food was excellent. People in my party were not crazy about the atmosphere. It was loud, not cozy, rock 'n roll oriented but with high class food. I'm neutral about the atmosphere yet understood their point. It was hard to tell what vibe they were going for. Bar was great, service was attentive, and again, the food was excellent. Drink menu was very good including NA choices.

I thought this was a great, not outstanding meal. It really should have been the latter given the price point. Cocktails and the wine list were both creative. Apps - I would pass on the appetizers. We had oysters that were akin to a deconstructed poor boy. Oysters, watercress, tartar sauce and a shaved fancy cheese. Oysters were perfectly fried. Crab dip, while ultra creamy, felt like something you can pick up in most New England pubs. Mains - Mains were excellent. The short ribs and accompanying Black eyed peas were a favorite. Melt in your mouth tender short rib. The halibut special with lobster risotto was the taste of summer with large chunks of fresh lobster. The fried chicken well seasoned but got a little lost on the dish, though I could decide whether the watermelon arugula salad was off-putting or adorable. It did not do much for the dish. Service - our waiter took some time to get to our table. He was nice but did not do much more than get the order. I noticed because I had a visitor from another country and it was hard for her to navigate the drinks menu and he offered limited help. Anyhow, I would go again, I think it is delicious bit think there is room for improvement.

So excited that the Red Cat Kitchen is open for the 2024 season. Ben deForest’s dishes never seize to amaze, but the new salmon sashimi small plate is in a league of its own. I am obsessed!! I came for dinner early for a quick bite and had the best experience. My server, Martha, was wonderful and knowledgeable, the vibe was awesome as always, and the food was simply incredible. Can’t wait to return.

I don't like to use superlatives really... And I'd absolutely consider myself a foodie. But I can unequivocally say: this was one of the top 5 meals I've had in my entire life. Holy moly. I was almost in tears when I had the first bites. We ordered the special halibut, the souffle and the swordfish. I've never tasted anything so amazing. The fish had the perfect texture. The risotto (which I usually always hate) was absolutely delicious and perfectly seasoned. I can't rave enough about this place. Our server, Martha, was also perfect. Super personable and just all around great. If you're in Martha's Vineyard, you NEED to go here.

Honestly can’t decide whether food or the service was better… both were equally amazing. These people know what they’re doing. Cozy spot with lots of character that shows in every aspect of the experience - from the decor/ambience, to the cocktails and freshly sourced ingredients, even the cheeky verbiage of the menu. And don’t even get me started on how fantastic the wait staff is (shout out to Caroline). I mean seriously next level. If you happen to have the privilege of dining here, do not pass up on the tuna, Brussels sprouts, or the fried chicken - but to be completely honest, it’s truly difficult to pick just a few favorites when EVERYTHING we ate was delicious. I promise you won’t be disappointed with any dish they put in front of you.

Sensory overload. Loud. Quite boomy music, echoey, mismatched chairs and tables, old random decorations, baseball caps, dried roses covering the ceiling, mismatched votives on walls, holiday lights, old magazine articles paper mache all over pillars…it’s a lot. On the other hand, the food was very good. Greens and burrata was surprisingly good and tasty, even though it looked like it would be boring. Many flavors, herbs and surprising tastes sneaked in and vinaigrette was good. My vegetarian dish was pretty tasty, and my husband’s tuna was done well. So, the food is good, yet the vibe is not for everyone.

The Red Cat Kitchen is a special gem that serves a varied menu of thoughtfully conceived, exquisitely prepared and expertly presented appetizers and entrees! The restaurant is bustling with happy patrons, but please don’t feel obliged if you aren’t ready for the delicious rewards at the Red Cat Kitchen. Be advised sublime farm to table dishes are priced accordingly and may be a stress test for those with a limited budget. That being said, if you’re looking for a great experience from the charming hostesses to their attentive servers. We were made to feel like special guests from the moment we stepped into the cozy dining area to the time we finished our last bite. We all agreed that we’ll be back during our next trip to the Vineyard!

Lucky Hank's is a casual American restaurant located on the Island of Martha's Vineyard in Massachusetts. The menu features items like eggs, bacon, sausage, toast, omelets, and pancakes as well as hearty sandwiches for lunch and dinner. The restaurant is open from 6am-9pm daily.
With brunch themed cocktails and Eggs Benedict on the menu, this was my kind of breakfast. With only two tables in front of the restaurant, I chose to sit on the porch in the rocking chair and wait into both parties were done dining. We had just missed the breakfast rush and arrived for 10:30 and it wasn’t busy. It was peaceful. The inside is decorated cute and has a small town restaurant feeling with trinkets and book shelves. The back of the restaurant has a larger seating area with a enclosed screen area for additional seating. I had the Hank’s White Sangria and Classic Eggs Benedict (Delicious). I was very pleased with the overall experience. Lamb our server was really sweet and everything came out quick. Took the MV Shuttle from Oak Bluffs and got off at the Stop & Shop stop and Lucky Hank’s was a quick walk across the street. Great place!!

This is very overdue - we've been going to the Vineyard for 12 years, and Hank's always serves the best meal(s) of our trip. I usually get the Farm Share, and my mom's favorites are the salmon and the cod. Everything is plated beautifully. Cocktails are also great (blood orange mojito!), and the service is lovely. They substituted part of my dish to accommodate my food allergy which I really appreciate. Love love love this place.

Loved that we could get a brunch cocktail and loved the vegetable options- the veggie breakfast sandwich was very good! We had a little mishap with ordering, however, and the team serving approach failed, so we sat for an hour before someone took our food order. Not entirely their fault- we were chatting merrily and didn’t realize that it had been so long and we had not given our order until we saw people leaving who had already eaten, but had sat after we had. Oops! Overall, definitely worth eating there. Food was fresh, cocktails strong.

We were recommended Lucky Hank’s by our B&B Jade House host. LH’s didn’t disappoint. The food was scrumptious and very fresh. The servers were very pleasant and paid attention to detail. When in Edgartown and needing a solid and pleasant food option, give Lucky Hank’s a try.

Nice sized restaurant. They didn’t have the cod cakes but substituted with salmon cakes. Tasty, but was looking forward to trying the cod. The mimosas have fresh squeezed oj. Host and waitress was nice and friendly. Service was quick as we went first thing in the morning when they opened.

As usual Lucky Hanks does not disappoint for breakfast! The French toasts are out of this world! And the omelets, although not the massive American diner size some are used to, are absolutely amazing and definitely big enough, served with the best potatoes! Definitely high island prices but you actually get what you pay for here! And the service is great in a nice atmosphere.

We went for breakfast on a rainy weekday morning. The food was delicious, and the menu had some enticing options! I opted for the French toast and was not disappointed! It was beautiful, and I ate every bite. It was a bit busy (we went around 9am), so not the quickest breakfast, but definitely worth it. Highy recommend!

The Wharf is a seafood restaurant with several entrances. Behind door number one is the pub side with twelve different beers on tap and a relaxed, social atmosphere. Door number two is the restaurant side where you can enjoy lunch and dinner seven days a week. The Back Bar is one of the most popular areas at The Wharf - it's a bar with live music and video games.
Hubby and I stopped by for a drink and bar snack potato skins! Sorry no picture of those 🙄. I had an Apple martini and hubby had a Sam Boston lager. Everything was good bartender was attentive and we had a nice time. A patron brought in this huge English massif such a good gal. We will be back it’s only day 1 of our vacation!!

Winter time on Martha's vineyard do not leave much option for restaurants. Service was fast. We order buffalo wings that was soaked in RED HOT straight out the bottle. Buttermilk Chicken sandwich was not bad although the breast could have been thicker that you eating more meat than batter. Drinks were not bad. The server Ryan was excellent and made us feel welcome. However, the restaurant needs a deep cleaning. There were curtains hanged above our booth that was stained with food the ledge above the both had months old dust . I politely asked the server to speak with the manager. The manager stated that they are lacking workers and unable to clean after the busy peak season. I wonder if there are now enough workers to wash the pots and pans!!! Wrong Response Mr. Manager.

A nice local tavern. Service was good. She brought out the wrong drink but fixed it when asked. Food was fine. The pasta dish was supposed to be in a white wine sauce, but came out in red tomato-based sauce. We didn’t opt to try to address the issue since we were on a timeline. The fish and chips was ok- two smaller pieces of fish, and not as buttery or flaky as I would normally expect. But not bad. The burger patty was on the thinner side and had a pool of grease sitting in the middle, but my 5 year old gobbled it up. Atmosphere was quiet and clean.

This place is a gem!! Jack, our waiter was absolutely amazing, food could not have been better, 5 stars all the way! If I could give 10 stars I would! The swordfish was one of the best entrees my husband has ever had and the Philly cheese steak was hands down the best I have ever had. I am not sure what they do to their fries, but it is magical, lol!!! Drinks don't disappoint on any level. Atmosphere is beautiful, old decor, old exposed beams and lantern lights, and it is a jaws fan dream come true with all the memorabilia! This is a MUST SEE on your itinerary through Martha's Vinyard!

We went to the Wharf after a dear friends mother's funeral. It was her mother's wishes after her service for all involved to go & get drunk. Well, we didn't get drunk but did have a couple of cocktails & a very yummy lunch. It was a sad service but comforting to be all together. The Wharf & John made our visit a special occasion.

Stopped in for a coffee and a draft on 5/3 @ 5pm. The restaurant was empty, so we went into the bar. We waited 10 minutes for the bartender to acknowledge us, which she never did. I watched her mix and drink shots for herself, a customer and another employee, then left. It was not busy, she just didn't care. Rude bartender and terrible service. The Wharf is not worth a visit.

This place is def pub vibe. I was sticking to the floor getting to a bar stool. The bartender was nice. Wife ordered a fisherman's platter and a platter it was not. More like a plate with minimal seafood. Check the pics. Expensive of course but damn, nothing like a platter. I ordered seared scallops served with risotto. Scallops were undercooked but the risotto was bomb! If I ever come back, I'll just get a burger.

Excellent location and the food quality matches it. The chowder fries definitely stand out and are a must-try here. We ordered the pastrami with side caesar. The sandwich was light and delicious without any unnecessary extra condiments. The side salad was fresh and light easily going together with the sandwich. Definitely recommend!!

I wanted so badly to give 2 stars because the service from our waiter was that horrible. She was incredibly rude, got some of the order incorrect but was completely unapproachable so it wasn’t worth even telling her. The food however was pretty good! Enjoyed the lobster roll & the Parmesan Truffle fries.

A little confusing at first but once someone greeted us we were seated immediately. Food was pretty good. Drinks were okay. Service was marginal but sufficient. Overall not a home run but our expectation was Tavern / Bar so it certainly met that level. It was also very convenient to the Vineyard Square hotel.

Ended up here 3 times on a work trip. Ordered steak frites all 3 times…the 2 orders I had at night were amazing, cooked perfectly, had the perfect amount of char on it and seasoned very well. The one time I went for lunch had me asking if I received the same meal. Maybe it’s a hit or miss or maybe skip during lunch hours. Nonetheless service was amazing all the time, drinks were good.

Good service. Cocktails: don’t get the Paloma. No where near a Paloma cocktail. Perhaps the bartender was training, I’m not sure. But don’t waste your money on that. Get the frozen cocktails, you can’t go wrong if it’s already all premixed, can’t mess that one up. We ordered the salad and it was good. I asked for extra vinaigrette because they don’t put much on it. Also we ordered lobster and it was good. We also ordered the cod. It was plentiful and good as well. Very casual place. Nothing fancy at all. Very warm and welcoming. Management could step it up with cleanliness however. There was no soap in the men’s bathroom. That to me is inexcusable because the workers aren’t washing their hands with soap! That to me is pretty gross! And a reflection on the management team.
