Chincoteague Island

Chincoteague is a town on the island of the same name, in Virginia’s Eastern Shore region. It’s a gateway to Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge, on Assateague Island, which has beaches and wild Chincoteague ponies. The breed is showcased at the Chincoteague Pony Centre. Oyster-industry artifacts and model boats are displayed at the Museum of Chincoteague Island. Veteran’s Memorial Park has a pier and water views.

Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge is a protected area that encompasses beaches, marshes, and forests. It is home to various species such as wild ponies, waterfowl, and other wildlife. The refuge also boasts a historic lighthouse and fishing opportunities. Its clean beaches and stunning parks make it a favorite destination for many visitors. During the off-season, the refuge offers peaceful trips with fewer crowds around.
Beautiful! Love this place and hope to go back. Going in the off season made for a quiet, peaceful trip with not many others about. The beach is a great place to watch the sunset. Take note that the lighthouse is closed. Of course you in can see it but cannot go up.

This beach is very unique because there are sand bars, 100 feet out into the ocean, that actually break up the large waves and offes a safe swim into the Atlantic. Lots and lots of bike trails. Wild horses can be seen near the bay side. Awesome place to take the family. (Dogs are not allowed in this park.)

Went to check out this lighthouse in memory of my mother in law who was an avid lighthouse lover. The drive was pretty fun getting there. A lot of sights to see. Now the lighthouse is on a wild life reserve. There is a 10 dollar fee to enter the wild life reserve. It is an all day pass though so if you leave you can come back till it closes for the day. The light house is a short drive and is on the right. Attached is an unfortunately small parking area. There are restrooms in the parking area as well. But be prepared it is a very basic restroom. No running water. When we parked there, there was a map that showed where the lighthouse was. It is a short walk through the trees and up a slight hill. Word of advice. BRING MOSQUITO REPELLENT! They are everywhere! When we got to the lighthouse it was a beautiful sight. The brickwork is awesome. The colors made it look like a giant candy cane. There is a park worker in the lighthouse and they count people going up the lighthouse. There are 175 steps up to the top of the lighthouse so be prepared for a bit of a climb. Overall had a good time here. Plus we got to see some wild horses out in the fields😊

Traveling through the state 04/07/2024 and opted to spend the day here seeing the refuge, biking the trails, stopping by the lighthouse (still temporarily closed), and searching for ponies throughout the marsh. Amazingly peaceful place on a cool early April Sunday. Saw a handful of birds - egrets, mallards, even a turkey! And crossed paths with a sika deer on the west side of Woodland Trail Loop. The ponies had just been rounded up by the "Saltwater Cowboys" and had their annual physicals the day prior; so, they hadn't quite moseyed their way back to their regular locations. But we got lucky and saw a few throughout the day.

Chincoteague will always have a special place in my heart. It did ever since I was a young girl reading about the ponies, and then after being stationed there for four years, the people and natural beauty of it just made it more special. The beaches are clean, the parks are gorgeous. It is always one of my favorite places!
Thao Barnes — Google review
Beautiful beaches. Very family friendly. Not a long walk from your car to the beach. Only 10 dollars per car to get into the park. The horses are beautiful and so whimsical. My toddlers loved coming here. We will definitely be back.
Deborah Gleiter — Google review
The mosquitos are out of control. We sprayed with Off and didn't seem to make a difference. The trails are paved and well kept. The beach access is plentiful. The area is clean and can get busy.
Tiffany Mendoza — Google review
I love the area. Recently, I've been visiting quite a bit lately trying out new restaurants. Enjoy seeing the ponies. Candy shops are great. Views of the waterways are nice as well. This visit I saw the light house that is going to be re opened.

Wonderful facilty and wildlife area. Lots of parking and driving loop. Nice beach to wander.. See the famous Chincoteague ponies along the roadside viewing point. We happen to catch and attend the spring roundup that was fun. Lots of birds to see and photograph. $10 a car per day or one week for $25. We will definately return.

Kudos to the Virginia side of this island in ensuring and protecting these beautiful wild ponies from the intrusions by those few but destructive ignorant human tourists who are allowed to get too close to these ponies on the Maryland side of Assateague Island. The Virginia Rescue Fire Company and staff who look out for and watch over these ponies know how to protect them properly. Maryland staff take note...there have been far too many tourist abuses especially lately to these wild ponies because you fail to provide barriers between the ponies and 'some' totally ignorant tourists harm them. The poor horse 'Chip' story being separated from his family because tourists kept inciting him is one case in point. The shameful tourist who hit another pony in the head with his cooler is another. These wild ponies depend on us to offer supportive love and care. We humans need to remember that we are all one. What goes around, comes around. Zoom in to see these amazing wild ponies, with two recently born foals, and the brown horse soon to birth hers.

Always a nice place to visit. Lots of fun things to do. walking trails and beach, watching birds and wild horses. There’s a lighthouse and visitor center. It can be crowded on weekends. Try early mornings and evenings to avoid crowds and see more nature.
Min Zhang — Google review
As others have said, unspoiled beaches, wetlands and trails to walk and bike. Hours are 5a-10p all for a mere $10 entry fee. The ponies were spotted grazing at 7pm on a Friday evening. Birds are plentiful as are mosquitoes so BRING BUG SPRAY (and sunscreen!).
Lisa — Google review
Excellent place for a family vacation to explore the Atlantic coastline. Miles of protected rugged shoreline. The Southern half of Assateague Island National Park. Located in Virginia. In addition to the undeveloped park, it has a driveable wildlife loop in the evening. The island is also home to the Chincoteague lighthouse which is open to the public. Part of the beach is open to drive on with the proper permits. There are several miles allowed to drive on. Excellent place to search for seashells due to oyster harvesting. NASA has several facilities before driving to Chincoteague including a visitor center with a viewing area for rocket launches that NASA occasionally uses. The hotels are only 3-4 stories high. No boardwalk. Plenty of places to shop for any and most everything. NO pets are permitted on any park property including all public vehicles.

Much more of an aquatic wildlife park with famed wild ponies. Clean and well organized. The park has different entrance fee based on single or weekly admittance or membership. Family friendly and a good spot to get away from the daily grind.

Each time we visit, it’s a whole new experience. As luck would have it, we had planned our vacation months in advance. Apparently so did Tropical Storm Ophelia. We arrived Thursday, September 21, and TS Ophelia was due Friday night. We went to the Atlantic Ocean / Beach to watch the waves come in. They were huge! The park service hadn’t closed off the beach yet. We visited the beach on Saturday and it was all closed off. One could see the waves hit the beach just from the vehicle. It was a beautiful sight.
Traci Fannin - Poole — Google review
We visited on a weekday summer morning. Thanks to tips from the park ranger, we were able to see 2 groups of wild horses grazing in the marshes as we drove along Beach Road. The horses are fenced in a large enclosure for their protection. It was cool to see shore birds and egrets relaxing on trees and fences near the horses. We also hiked the Woodland Trail but did not see any horses there. The Lighthouse Trail and the 2 visitor centers are well worth the time as other stops.
Barb Hauck-Mah (barbhmphilly) — Google review
I was on Chincoteague Island, walked around, drove around. I encountered some marshy and natural areas, but as far as a Wildlife Refuge, this is actually referencing an area on Assateague Island, the barrier island, around the Wildlife loop, that encircles what is known as the Snow Goose Pool, a watery, marshy area. People drive around the loop to hopefully catch a glimpse of the wild horses that live here, but they steer clear of the road- far away. As opposed to the Maryland end of the island where it is commonplace to see horses on the road. It is a very scenic area teeming with vegetation, birds, and even foxes. An unspoiled area that is being protected and it's awesome to have access to it. If you live in a big city, this is not something you're accustomed to seeing. Awesome stuff.

Captain Timothy Hill House

Mentioned on

Sights & Landmarks
Historic Sites
The Captain Timothy Hill House is a small, 1800s pine log house with a replica wooden chimney and ship carvings. It is open for tours and visitors can freely walk around the property. The home was once occupied by 11 members of the Hill family, who also owned a large farm on the property. The house is famous for being the site of the first known murder on the island in 1885, when Jennie Hill was murdered due to failed courtship and jealousy.
Nice historic site with good signage to help explain. Nicely maintained and easy access. Would be interested in going back when the house is open. But plenty to see from the outside. Very convenient.

The inside is open to the public only 2 hours per week (Fridays), but the property (very small) around the building is accessible.

Wonderful time spent here! Knowledgeable staff, fascinating tidbits of history, a wonderfully preserved home, and some truly unique stories that made this stop not only a rewarding one but a memorable one! Thanks to everyone involved for making this a great 45 minutes well spent! 👍🙂✌️

Owner went out his way to give a tour and educate us on the history of the place, and it wasn't even open at the time!!! Great experience!!
Christian Morris — Google review
Stopped by on a Sunday. The house stands alone and you can walk around the place freely. Check out the boat carvings made by a little boy back in the day. Timothy Hill supposedly had 11 members living in the house with outback house and large farm. The house is famous for the murder of his daughter, Jennie Hill, after failed courtship and jealousy. First known murder in the island in 1885. Definitely worth the visit and just enjoying the restoration of the home. Also, for those colonial build fans, this is one of the rare homes that had wood chimneys.

Maui Jack's Waterpark

Mentioned on
Water park
Water & Amusement Parks
Nice little local Waterpark. There are two race style slides (my favorite), three swirl slides, a lazy river, and a section for smaller kiddos in the center. They have nice, clean bathrooms! They offer food and have a full bar. Get there early for a shaded spot without having to pay for a cabana!
Eve Wick — Google review
We have gone to Maui Jacks for about 5 years now. Never will we go here again. We reserved a cabana which we always did in the past without any problems. So we unpacked put our things in the safe and the safe wouldn't work. We went and got an employee to help but he could not help us. He said it needed batteries. We even asked to be moved but they said we couldn't do that. So we sat and sat until someone else came and still did not fix the safe. We then found out the waters in the cooler had no ice and the waters were warm. So 2 hours later with nothing being done we took the loss of 100.00 for the cabana. This is a very poorly run place. The customer service is horrible. Don't make the mistake of going here. I would have put 0 stars if I could have. Oh and when we left the person that was supposed to be helping us was at the front helping people check in. UNBELIEVABLE!!!!
Dale Moon — Google review
Love this water park. Had big children's area in middle of the park for kids under 48". They cannot ride the water slides but have many slides that are age appropriate in the kids area. Had fun in the lazy river and children of all ages can go in. They provide life vests that fit very well. So no need to bring one! Wasn't over crowded. They also have a camping resort right across the street with a playground and jumping trampoline. Was a bit expensive but affordable if you pack lunch and stay all day.
Francesca Canale — Google review
It started thundering 5 minutes after opening (didn't even have our sunscreen on yet). The lifeguards were unpleasant and short about explaining what was going on. Eventually they offered rain checks good for the rest of the year (what good is that if you're a tourist from multiple states away). I didn't want a refund or rain check and waited it out, but its not a customer friendly policy. I understand and their refund policy makes sense in many circumstances but 5 minutes after the gate opens if they shut the place down and shortly after start offering rain checks, that's just not customer friendly in a tourist town. Remember, just because its legal doesn't mean its something we should let businesses get away with. This didn't impact my current trip but I won't go back on future trips to the island and support a business with this type of policy (or any of their affiliated business for that matter. Maui Jack's is owned by Blue Water Development which owns 44 other properties across 21 states as of the time of writing this review. Some of which are hotel franchises and JellyStone Parks). During the thunder and lightning they forced everyone out of the park and into the giftshop. There were well over a hundred people in this tiny building that had to be way over capacity of the Virginia Building Code. So they took everyone from one safety hazard to another and never thought twice about it. If it hadn't been first thing after the park opened their would have been even more people with no where to put them. They do not have enough tubes for the lazy river but they will certainly sell you a tube at the gift shop you can use in the lazy river. It's very obvious that they intentionally limit tube availability so they can sell more. By the mid/end of a busy day 20-30% of the tubes are the ones you can buy at the gift shop because people are tired of standing in line for a tube in the sun and heat. I don't want to just complain without covering the positives. There is quite a bit of seating and they do a good job of providing a decent amount of shade. And the pizza from the concessions stand was tasty albite a bit pricy.
Shawn Fox — Google review
So we have been here more than once. This time, the staff was unorganized. They delayed opening due to storms in the area. We were told to come back in one hour. One of our friends called us ten minutes later to say they were selling tickets and were opening. We were there for my nephews birthday, so there were several kids with us. One of the wait staff accused us of having beer in my bag after we had been there for a few hours. They searched my bag full of diapers and towels. Mind you, I was the only person in the park in a wheelchair having a hard enough time as it was, and then this? No, thank you. I'll just go elsewhere for now on.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Maui Jacks waterpark in Chincoteague, Virginia, and I must say, it was a fantastic experience. While the park may be small in size, it is perfect for families looking for a fun day out. One of the highlights of Maui Jacks is the lazy river. It was incredibly enjoyable to float along the gentle current, soaking up the sun and enjoying the relaxing atmosphere. The lazy river is a great way to unwind and spend quality time with loved ones. Although the park may not have a wide variety of slides, the ones they do have are a lot of fun. The slides provided a thrilling experience for both kids and adults alike. It's a great way to add some excitement to your day at the waterpark. One thing I appreciated about Maui Jacks was the abundance of seating with shade. It was nice to have a place to relax and take a break from the sun. The ample seating ensured that everyone in our group had a comfortable spot to rest and recharge. The children's area at Maui Jacks is a good size and offers plenty of entertainment for the little ones. They can splash around in the shallow pools, enjoy the water features, and have a blast with the interactive play structures. It's a safe and enjoyable space for kids to have fun and make lasting memories. When it comes to food, Maui Jacks offers what you would expect at a waterpark. While the options may not be gourmet, they are convenient and satisfying. It's a great way to refuel and keep the energy levels up during your visit. Cleanliness is a top priority at Maui Jacks, and it shows. The park is very clean, and the staff works diligently to ensure a tidy and hygienic environment for all visitors. It's refreshing to see such attention to cleanliness in a waterpark setting. The staff at Maui Jacks are incredibly friendly and always willing to help. They go above and beyond to ensure that guests have a positive experience. Their cheerful demeanor and willingness to assist add to the overall enjoyment of the park. Lastly, I must mention that Maui Jacks honors a veterans discount. This is a wonderful gesture of appreciation for those who have served our country. It's heartwarming to see a waterpark recognizing and honoring our veterans. In conclusion, Maui Jacks waterpark in Chincoteague, Virginia, may be small in size, but it is perfect for families looking for a fun day out. With its enjoyable lazy river, thrilling slides, ample seating with shade, and a good-sized children's area, there is something for everyone to enjoy. The park is clean, the staff is friendly, and they even offer a veterans discount. I highly recommend Maui Jacks for a memorable and enjoyable waterpark experience.

It was fun, everyone had a great time. The only negative thing was it took for ever to get the season pass sorted out, so we waited for awhile. We will be going back.
Marcus pondexter — Google review
It's not very big, but it was a fun day. I would recommend this park for younger kids. Only one slide was open while we were there.
Roberta Burke — Google review
This place is fun and could be enjoyable but we experienced something that made us not go back even though we had a 3 day pass. There was food in the water, paper and wrappers everywhere. The water was full of garbage and just was disgusting. I know this has to do with the people being slobs, but still there was a large wrap floating in the water and a guard didn't even attempt to do anything to clear it ( I cleaned it out). There was obvious paper floating in the water of the lazy river and no one even attempted to clean it. It was just a disgusting place to swim. We left and never went back over the 4 days we were in the park nextdoor.
Kendahl Titcomb — Google review
Highly recommend renting a cabana for the day! Especially with a toddler, worth every penny. Staff is so helpful and friendly, everything was clean and organized. My family spent almost the entire day there and had a blast.
Janna Elliott — Google review
A bit pricey, but so worth it. All of my kids had an absolute blast! We were there right at opening and didn't leave until it closed! We're planning to go again before our vacation is over 😃 I will say, the cabanas are not worth the price they're asking. We were planning to rent one out, but there's ample shade provided throughout the park, so the $99 for it just seemed like a waste. $50 would be a more reasonable ask. Definitely check it out!
Kayla Mar — Google review
I found this place while researching chincoteague and wow, just wow. We visited on a Thursday so the park wasn't very crowded. I reserved a cabana online a few weeks earlier and it was a great option so my mom wouldn't have to sit out in the sun. The cabana service is another worthwhile expense. I would recommend to anyone visiting the area. Also, the music and customer service was really good.
Marie Brown — Google review
Easy to see from highway. Kids under 3 are free. Had a blast today, only thing that was "ok" was at the entrance, it took a while for the girl who rang us up to put bracelets on all of us, meanwhile the line kept getting longer, i think someone else should do the bracelets while someone else rings ppl up, specially on busy days.. Oooh.. the big big water drop on the lazy river hurts!! It even made my shirt go down when i went under it, too much pressure 😔😔 the other one thats one the bridge its fine.. They also have lifejackets and sunscreen dispensers... Then consession line was very slow, and its wasnt that busy today. Theres bike parking and locker rentals.. 3 showers in girls bathroom 👍👍 Will be back!!
Sarahii Galvezz — Google review
Had fun while there for the free Accomack county student days. Nice park, one of the life guards there was really rude, but didn't let that damper the day. My son absolutely loved the blue slide! Will definitely be back. Looking into getting a family season pass for next yr.
Karen Thornton — Google review
Decent water park. Surprised there is not a small pool. The main entry into the lazy river is a small splash area, but more for little swimmers. Kids area in the middle is not open yet. Front desk said it would be open by July 1, 2018. Currently not charging for kids under 48". Plenty of lounge chairs. Approximately 1/8 of them are under an unbrella or shelter. Cloudy 76° day today. Only a handful of people... 60 here. Plenty of room. No real waits for slides. Lazy river has plenty of speed and two water falls. Without a pool, not sure how it would be if the place was packed on a hot day. The safety feel from the Lifeguards we're more like a small community pool after a long season. Very relaxed and too much talking and visiting each other while on duty. Even head life guard/manager was talkative. Automobile crash happened outside the gates. Just about every life guard was paying attention to that. Some when to help, which is not an issue... But when the lazy river or slides are not being watched... Then that is an issue. Hopefully management gets control and makes sure safety of swimmers is first and foremost.

Pico Taqueria is a small family-run outdoor restaurant that operates from spring to fall and is known for its creative tacos made with locally sourced ingredients. The menu offers a mix of classic and innovative taco options, served on homemade corn or flour tortillas or as part of a rice bowl with cilantro-lime rice and Costa Rican black beans.
Just moved locally. Hands down best tacos I ever had. Menu is smallish but the food is soooo good. The food is light and not heavy at all. Great atmosphere. Newly added outside area has cocktails and snacks. PHENOMENAL!

This is a fantastic restaurant. It's a family owned restaurant. The food and the prices are great, they have outdoor seating, and a great bar. The atmosphere is laid back, but inviting. If you have a craving for tacos, this is a great place to scratch that itch.

Food is good but very expensive. Almost $5 for 1 taco although they are more gourmet. The tortillas are obviously homemade and are truly delicious! Due to the price I think we’ll try somewhere else next time we visit the island

Honestly we could have eaten here for every meal. Everything was so delicious! Even though it was hopping when we got there, our food came out relatively quickly and there's a shady waiting spot available right by the order window. We got the chicken city tacos and the Chincoteague Classic taco bowl. Both were super flavorful and hit the spot! We will most definitely be returning next year!

Wanted to come here earlier in the week but they were closed. I guess they have started their off season hours. They have outdoor ordering and pick up windows. They have several different tacos to order. Our group got the Shrimp Chincoteague Classic, The Main Street, Chicken City, The Deep Hole and The Beach Road. The ingredients were fresh and the tacos were the best I’ve had. They have outdoor seating as well as a screened in building. We can’t wait to come back again.

The food was absolutely fantastic. We enjoyed everything, and the staff was very friendly. The atmosphere was fun and inviting. My time in chincoteague was pretty good. Before showing up I was a bit sceptical that I'd find a resturaunt that wasn't just a tourist beach town diner or highway rest stop chain. When passing picos on the way to the beach I thought it was just a little building with a window where you grab and go. I was very happy and surprised to see both inside and outside dining options! The sun was high when we went but a nice beachy breeze rolled through making both covered outdoor and screened indoor great sit down spots! The people at the windows were very patient and friendly. While waiting I witnessed them navigate a VERY large order and a person with a restricted diet substituting things, while a line wrapped around the porch. No problem for them at all. The food was phenomonal, not just like pretty good, but high quality and very generous portions. My wife got 4 Tacos thinking they'd be tiny. She only ate two, they were more like mini burritos! My bowl was packed with all the right portions, a good mix of rice/veggie/protein. I'm not sure if they make their own hotsauce, they have bottles around for use. And that Garlic habenero was an awesome Inclusion! They also had this blueberry pretzel salad that was a special. It looks like they change up what they offer and that made me want to check each day I was there! Its right up the street from jellystone so if you're camping here I would check it out! I write a lot of reviews and visit a lot of places. But picos is for sure a staple when we return to chincoteague. We will be back absolutely!

Excellent spot for unique tacos. Walk up and order from a small but amazing menu. Lots of seafood ingredients along with steak and chicken. Yummy sides. I loved the street corn cob. Very fresh tasting lemonade and margaritas. My fav was the soft shell crab and shrimp taco. Outside and indoor seating.

Gem of a place in Chincoteague. The tacos are perfection. Corn or flour tortilla options. I cannot recommend the roasted cauliflower taco (The Deep Hole) enough. It's a work of culinary art. The Chicken city is my second favorite. They have guacamole that is fresh and flavorful. Every time we visit here, we ALWAYS come to Pico's. The food is outstanding. They have indoor and outdoor seating as well as cocktails at their little bar to the side. The Paloma cocktail tastes as good as it looks.

Good food, at a real good price. Delicious they did start to form a line, other than being a smaller area at the register/ordering area. The food is good and can have you wanting to come back. Having family that live down here coming all the time, then us coming year after year. It's delicious!

Fabulous service! Familiar food for picky teens and scrumptious options for adventurous mom & dad! (A counter of extra spices too!) Calzone with homemade crust and extra sauce. Perfectly crisp and salty fries & onion rings. Boneless buffalo bites - teen said “best I’ve ever had.” Dining room has two big air conditioners and high chairs. BONUS? They serve Pennsylvania Dutch Root beer & the Gift shop next door sells local wine! We will definitely be back!

We absolutely love this pizza place. We vacationed here for a week and had to get it twice! They do free delivery on the island and it’s super fast. The pizza itself is the perfect intersection between pan and NY-style pizza. It’s got that perfect crispy bottom from pan pizza without being too thick and doughy, and it’s got that foldable perfection of NY style. Crust, sauce, cheese, toppings, it all rocks. Pictured is our spicy italian pizza that we devoured half of immediately. Keep up the great work!

The pizza is fantastic!! My husband got a gyro, and I gotta say....I was impressed! We also got the crabby poppers and they were delicious. The staff was friendly and everything was really good! I recommend this place and we will be back!

This is THE PLACE TO BE after a long day of hiking, beaching, or biking. The subs are so refreshing and the staff is super nice. Also one of the few places where I wasn't attacked by flies! 10/10 go here!

Family Friendly Restaurant. Menu is large and has lots of options. I saw gluten free options too. Pizza was ok. Not the best, but checks the box. Greek salad was amazing! Gyro was 4/5. Kids menu was ok, glad they had spaghetti and meat balls option. Overall I give it 3 stars b/c of the pizza. It could have been better. I would go back but order someone other than pizza.
Susan Cohen — Google review
We had a medium cheese pizza and an order of crsb-poppers. The pizza cheese and sauce were pretty good, but the pizza crust was pretty generic. I don't think it was hand tossed dough. We enjoyed the crab-poppers. They weren't too spicy, and the crab meat was flavourful and tasty. And the soda fountain had a good selection, too.

Nice pizza and sub shop not too far from the beach. The hoagies were very good. Customer service was friendly and the food was out fast. I would recommend this place for grabbing a quick bite at lunch going to or from the beach!

My family and I decided to take a quick trip to Chincoteague Island. We are from New York and of course had to stop and try Famous Pizza. This place lives up to their name! The pizza was INCREDIBLE. The fries- the BEST I have ever had and the subs - DELICIOUS!!! We ate here two days in a row and we’re blown away each time. Fun and friendly atmosphere! HIGHLY recommend stopping while you are visiting the island! We can not wait to go back!!

Had to come back to get the southwest Philly again and it was amazing. Spicy cheese steak gooey mastery. Toasted - it’s sub shop bliss

Stopped in for a sandwich to go. Had the Italian. Sandwich was ok. Nothing special, a bit too much vinegar in the dressing. Place as decently busy. Seems like they’re pretty popular for pizzas.

Solid pizza. Very reasonable price and it came out quick. Very quiet on a winter Sunday night but it wad a very enjoyable meal!

Decided to try this place for a late dinner. Decent menu with about 5-10 pizza selections and others. Service was good and fast. Pizza was very delicious. Did NOT appreciate a kid playing his Ipad while trying to enjoy pizza with others.

Best pizza that you'll find for many miles. Don't expect a top notch New York pizzeria, but it's still very good after a day of hiking around the wildlife refuge and watching the ponies.

Absolutely the worst pizza I've ever had. Got a large cheese steak pizza. No taste at all. Was like eating a piece of cardboard. I've had better frozen pizza, also got the cheese, jalapeno, crab balls. No jalapeno and no crab. Cheese balls fried in old oil. $45.00. We could barely get through 1 piece and the rest went right in the trash. Never again.

Great place locally in Chincoteague. Excellent option for vacationers, especially off-season when many places are either closed or have limited days/times. Cheeseburger sub, burgers, chicken tenders, gyros, fries all great. Plenty of room to dine in or easy counter to pick up and go. And even a loyalty program (which sadly we didn’t even realize existed until our fourth time ordering in the past four days it was so good, so missed out on earning all that time unfortunately). A great pizza joint for sure.

I will say, we’ve been on the island for 30 yrs & usually the food here is super. That said, we’ve never ordered online before and this time the food choices were incredibly disappointing!! We ordered a fish sandwich, (which comes with nothing but the bun anyway) - online the only choice was tomato and we wanted lettuce, onion & tomato- and see in the picture- they gave us the core of the tomato!! We also ordered the LARGE Garden Salad which was $11 after adding feta! Please see the picture of the “Large” salad- I mean would it break the bank to fill the box with lettuce!!!?? The pizza and onion rings were good but that’s about it! And, I was promised a 10% off coupon for my 1st order, which never appeared!!

Stopped here for lunch because we wanted to support a local restaurant and Famous has good Google reviews. We tried their Italian sub which tasted fresh, but a little bland in seasoning. Appreciated that you can customize your sub ingredients. We ate in and waited about 15 minutes for our subs. The 2 staff had a lot of orders to fill. It's on the main strip with some onsite parking spots.

Small-batch ice cream from local dairy milk comes in classic flavors at this circa-1975 shop.
Great selection of flavors, reasonable prices and good portions. Shakes, cones, cups...they've got plenty of options and plenty of flavors. They have the standards like chocolate and vanilla but also some fruity options like peach and key lime pie. Good sized seating area inside and there are a couple of seats outside. Plentybof parking too, if the spaces next to the building are full you can park across the street.
Laura Inglis — Google review
Most often has a long line, but the wait is worth it….typically why the line stays long. Once inside the visit goes quicker. Great home made ice cream flavors, and they have sugar free as well. I had a very enjoyable vanilla shake. Definitely a great place to stop!
Rob Spitler — Google review
Absolutely the best ice cream we've ever eaten! The Bourbon Caramel Crunch is to die for and I'm not even a bourbon or ice cream fan! We also tried Cherries Jubilee, Marsh Mud, and Pony Tracks. You can't go wrong with anything they sell! Everything is delicious! We bought pints to go, but there are so many options you can literally get pretty much whatever you can imagine!

Wow!! Ice cream is amazing! Creamy and delicious. Lots of fun flavors. Definitely well made since we didn't feel awful after eating 🤣 We went each evening of our vacation! SO good. Definitely check it out. Oh, and extra parking across the street (easy to miss)

We always stop by the creamery on our yearly visit. Sometimes the line it out the door, but it moves quickly. The staff is fast, friendly, and efficient. Love the variety of flavors and the creativity.

Tons of amazing flavors!!!! Loved cantaloupe! Update: The other icecream place wanted to be cash only and this place won my business! Went back here again, amazing flavors!

There are not enough stars. I visited here during the winter - off season for sure, but this place still has a great vibe when the shop is not so busy. I explained I had never been here before and asked “what’s good”. Everything, was the answer and she was not exaggerating. Unique flavors named after relevant local culture (like Salt Marsh). But also the unique contrasting flavors like Whisky Brickle. Oh my! Plenty of parking (off season remember) and worth the drive from just about anywhere. Thanks for the cheat on my diet.

Follow me for the next adventure! Ice cream here is a solid 4⭐ Lots of flavors on a rotating menu. Cones, waffle cones, shakes, etc. We tried single scoops of orange cream and rum raisin in a bowl for $4.50 each. Both were tasty. The line can get SUPER long so try to go early mid-week. ⬇️ If you found this review helpful hit 👍
Gina Williams — Google review
Wow...this ice cream is ridiculous. Like, no joke. We all got single scoops between cups and waffle cones and they were huge. And the cones...oh man, the cones. Buttery, flaky. I even appreciated that they put the cones in a small basket with spoons (since we all know sometimes things can get messy). Each treat was about five bucks, which is an awesome value. Ordering was easy and they move you down the line for payment and pickup. Plenty of places to sit, both indoors and outdoors. This is a must-stop on your visit to the island.

We love Island Creamery! Some of the best ice cream I’ve ever had! Their waffle cones are delicious and you can smell waffle cones as soon as you open the door. They have an area where you can buy shirts and hats as well. The lines can be long, especially in the summer-evenings after dinner. In between lunch and dinner isn’t as busy and a good time to go if you have young kids who don’t want to or don’t do well waiting in a long line. If you’re in the area, you must stop in and try them out!
Kelly Edwards Floyd — Google review
The ice cream here is absolutely amazing. Probably the best I've had. Don't let the long lines scare you, it moves very quickly.

This local busy ice cream shop is clean and efficient. A double scoop will cost just under $10 and worth it. The homemade ice cream is First Rate.
Tim Ward — Google review
Great service, lots of parking. Loved their waffle cones- very different from what I’m used to but delicious nonetheless! Fully recommend the Salt Marsh!
Coral Colón — Google review
When they others say that their ice cream is one of the best, it definitely is. I had the rocket fuel and pony tracks on a waffle cone. The waffle cone was soft and freshly made. They said the rocket fuel was like a spicy chocolate and I didn't believe it at first but it definitely was. It was weird to taste but I'm glad I had the experience to taste it. The cinnamon on the ice cream makes it spicy. When I asked the staff member what he recommends between rocket fuel and pony tracks, he told me it's the pony tracks... and he was definitely right! The vanilla on the ice cream was a different kind of creamy from your usual ice cream places. If you're to get any flavor, get the vanilla or the pony tracks that will take your tongue on a good ride. As for parking, there's parking in front or on the side. There's some parking on the other side by the restaurant but all parking spots are actually pretty slim and the place can get packed. On a nice summer, sunny day, the line is out of the door.

The aroma when you walk in the door at island creamery should be a Yankee candle, this is my all time favorite ice cream place. They make the waffle cones in house with their own waffle batter, it's amazing. Soft but crunchy and such good flavor. I love the cake batter ice cream, but they have so many flavors to choose from!
Hannah Phillips — Google review
Not a huge fan of the waffle cone, since I love mine stronger and crunchier, but it was fresh nonetheless! The cherry vanilla and the chocolate was FANTASTIC!!! HUGE Portions and cost was on the pricey side for 2 scoops each and a waffle cone for about $17, but well worth the stop!!!

Bill's PRIME Seafood & Steaks is a beloved dining spot in Chincoteague, having been a local mainstay since 1960. This restaurant offers a diverse menu featuring fresh seafood, hand-cut steaks, pasta dishes, and an extensive wine list. Guests can also enjoy cocktails and legendary desserts. Whether it's for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, Bill's PRIME Seafood & Steaks is known for its quality food and welcoming atmosphere.
This place is awesome. The handicap entrance takes you through the kitchen and from what we seen it was very clean. The staff were welcoming and friendly. The food was excellent. My wife had the crab dip burger and I had the Black and Blue burger and our daughter had chicken tenders. We shared crab dip and cheese bites and everything tasted fresh and delicious. The prices were average. But we felt that we got our monies worth between the staff, food and the experience of dining here. If your in the area, I would recommend you stop here!!

Hands down the best seafood on Chincoteague Island! We ate lunch here today and Bill's did not disappoint! It exceeded our expectations in all aspects...food, service, and atmosphere! The Cream of crab soup was delicious and I grew up catching, picking, and cooking crabs so I'm pretty darn picky about my crab dishes and this recipe is to die for good! The surf n turf burger was amazing too as Bill's homemade crab dip and cheddar atop the hamburger was a Home Run! Both my husband and I loved it and I had half a burger for another meal since it was a half a pound burger! My husband had the crab cake sandwich which he said was exceptional too! Our Server, Cohen, was exceptional and the decor and atmosphere were delightful too!

This is a definite stop when you are on the island. Yes it is a little more pricey then other places but it is well worth it. The atmosphere is classy, great for a date or meal with friends. The menu is diverse and packed with flavor. My suggestion is to start with the stuffed mushrooms then either the Shrimp and Grits or Stuffed Flounder. The martinis are large and are around $12. Make a reservation, can fill up easily.

Very impressed! Stopped in for lunch. Best meal we had on the island! Soups, burgers, quesadilla and wrap. All delicious! Service was top notch too. Highly recommend and would definitely come back. A little expensive but worth it!

Everything was the very best when we dined on Feb 9th. My wife's flounder with crab was the best she ever had and my fried Fisherman's Feast was better than any seafood that I have ever had. And it was such a huge serving that I could not finish it (and that has never happened before!). The bread was great. The baked potatoes with their toppings stand alone. The Cole slaw with its hint of apple was a surprise and was excellent. The setting was great; the service was fantastic, and the food was the best anywhere. I swear! Thank you for a great meal.

We were immediately seated. Our server was friendly and very attentive. Food was amazing, with generous portions. 10/10 would recommend to anyone coming to the island.

We enjoyed our meal and service. We thought the portions matched the price. Crab cakes were full of crab and not just filler. They do have parking behind the restaurant to the left. Looks like making reservations for dinner would be a good idea.

We had wonderful food! I had shrimp and grits very fresh and delicious, my husband got a mix of seafood 🦞🍢"can't remember the name" I have a picture. Highly recommend! Make a reservation or go earlier.

Great food and service, but the tables were stuffed too much. A 6 top 2 feet from the door. A fire marshal would probably fine them. Could have just been for the holiday weekend, but seemed unsafe for entry and exit.

I think Bill’s is the quintessential restaurant for the destination. I went with every intention of having steak, but we ended up splitting the broiled seafood platter instead. It was superior in every way to the one we had at Pearl’s last night. Portions were generous. Chowder was packed with clams. Raw oysters were plump and bright. Fish was moist and tender. I never order mashed potatoes when dining out, but these were exceptional. The owner was on the floor throughout the night and wished us well before we left. We enjoyed everything about our dinner and would return.

Very romantic and cozy spot. However, for the price, the food was just ok because it lacked seasoning. The steak and shrimp were cooked perfectly but bland. Service was exceptional.

Surprised how wonderful this restaurant was! We had driven on to Chincoteague for work at Wallops NASA the next day and the gig reviews drew us in. Wonderful welcoming staff. Great food - we had the coconut shrimp to start which we’d so fresh and split the prime rib which was excellent! Wine list was nice and affordable. A lovely evening and I highly recommend Bill’s!

Bills is nice a nice place. You must make a reservation, or you’ll wait forever. Thankfully we got that tip. The apps were good everything before our main course was good we had surf and turf at $145 market price. Not the issue. The steak ordered medium rare, was dry, medium steak was also dry and the lobster tail while huge was but so tough, it was not prepared properly at all. The waitress had zero personality, and it showed the whole time. Just very disappointed in my experience there.
Mike Sharp — Google review
Bill's Prime Seafood and Steak was most definitely a 5 star experience! First and foremost the interior was nice and welcoming, good ambiance. The service was excellent! Our waitress was friendly, attentive and made our dining experience even better! I ordered some oysters on the half shell (which were amazing!) and the fried seafood platter (which was equally great!!) and was thrilled with both choices. In summary: If you're looking for a higher end, high quality and overall great dining experience...then stop by Bill's Prime!!
Alex I — Google review
My group of 5 had a great lunch with good service. It did seem very dark inside, which didn't fit a beach town to me. But I had just been at the beach for hours, so I was probably use to the bright outdoors. The breaded mushrooms were a yummy appetizer special, and I found a new favorite alcoholic beverage - passion fruit daiquiri. I recommend anything crab cake because the crab cake sandwich was excellent. Even without any sauce! They also make great steak fries!

Ropewalk Restaurant in Chincoteague offers a beachfront dining experience with waterfront seating, tiki bars, and fire pits. It's a family-friendly spot with a children's play area and colorful outdoor furniture. The menu features a variety of dishes including pasta, seafood staples like crab cakes and steamed shrimp. With its first-class indoor and outdoor dining options, Ropewalk provides the best sunset views on the island.
All I can say is wow! A 5 star restaurant review is a high bar for me. Ropewalk executed everything flawlessly for both of my visits. Service was expedient from seating to ordering to delivery of food. The food and beverages are prepared to perfection. I highly recommend the NY strip steak which was cooked perfectly to med rare. The smoked wings are also some of the best wings I have ever had and fall off the bone. The ambiance and live music on the water is another benefit that I have not seen anywhere else in Chincoteague. Ropewalk has become my new favorite establishment in the area! This is also a great place to watch and take pictures of the sunset with the family as you eat dinner.

Sitting outside on their 'beach' with live music is really nice! Big menu and service was excellent. Great family restaurant. Food was very good though not excellent. Still, this is a quality choice on the island.
Dan Fields — Google review
Our server was the best part of our meal! He had a great sense of humor and was friendly and liked to banter. The restaurant is a really cool place with a big bar inside and two large outside bars too. The food was okay. Not bad but not great. The scallops were the best item we ordered. I had the shrimp and crab Mac and cheese which was more of a light Alfredo that wasn't very cheesy at all. The crab meat was good but the shrimp was just okay. My husband had the Delmarva Burger which he thought would be like an OBX burger with lump crab meat on top but instead it had a crab dip type dressing instead of lump crab meat. The Scallops on top of orzo with crab meat mixed in was the best item out of the three we ordered. They serve drinks in small pitchers and have crushed ice so that was a win. Not a bad lunch, but not a great one for spending about $100.

Very nice beachfront restaurant. Unfortunately we could not enjoy the outdoor seating due to bad weather but I could imagine that it’s a nice area to chill out. That had great live music while we enjoyed our dinner. Restaurant was quiet busy so please call ahead to make a reservation.

Cool restaurant with a sports bar, outdoor seating, and a sand filled area where you can eat. There's always a bunch of seagulls that are flying around near the hotel next door, or swimming in the water near the restaurant. The staff was friendly, and the food came out fast, about 15 minutes to get the food. When I ate there, (around 4 or 5 this Easter) they had three good musicians playing the guitar, electric and acoustic. Good food, but mildly expensive, we spent About $20 per person on just food, excluding tips and drinks. I purchased the gipper burger, with American cheese and bacon, ($20) and a root beer- with waffle fries. Another thing we purchased were the pulled pork tacos (17?), with potato chips. And the snow crabs, which were delicious, but a bit hard on the old bay. (Dont remember the price, forgot to take pics.)

Very nice place on the water with outdoor and open air indoor seating. Service was excellent. Like that they serve mini-pitchers of water. Enjoyed dining outside listening to the live music. The Seafood Cobb Salad and Crab Cake Sandwich were both very good.

As a tourist, Ropewalk was fantastic! Seated immediately on a Wednesday evening and were greeted by the wonderful live music of some singer songwriter named Tommy B, great energy right away! As for the food, I had the fish and chips. The flounder was great. I just kinda wished for a bit larger of a portion, but no issue. Gorgeous views complimented by the swarming seagulls amongst the transplanted palm trees was the icing on the cake. I want to come back!

Nice atmosphere. Waiter was not very helpful. Made his rounds by saying "You good?" every once in a while, never really stopping to see how we were. Our kids food came 10 minutes before ours did, which isn't a terrible idea, but no one said that's how it was going to be, so we were confused. Overall a good experience that could've had better service.

I wanted so much for this place to be great. Great atmosphere, right on the water for outside dining...great location. Sadly, that is the best you get with this restaurant. The place was busy, but understaffed. We put our name in for a table. The hostess told us we could wait at their bar outside. That bartender was apparently irritated that he kept having to serve people, as he quickly informed us there were 2 more bars there and we did not have to be at his. (Which I only saw one other inside bar). He then told us we all had to order and pay for drinks together. (6 of us) Since when can you not order an individual drink at a bar? We waited an hour for a table. Had to ask twice as to when we would be seated. Finally got a table. Apps took 30min to come out and were cold upon arrival. Lunch food was average. The waiter did try to hustle. But I do think he was just covering too many tables. All told, we were there for 3 hours for a lunch. 2.5 hours spent waiting. We did eat at their location in Ocean City, MD and did not have any issues. Maybe this location should take notes from the OCMD location and/or hire new management, as this one is poorly run. I don't recommend this place unless you have a whole afternoon to kill. And even then, don't have high expectations.

What a nice surprise to find! 30 years ago a patron of Ropewalk in Federal Hill. Marc and his bro have gone coastal! Now Marc, expand into NC, Duck or Corolla, heck Kitty Hawk will do too. Local oysters perfect and tasty for January! Staff exceeded expectations, halibut excellent too.

I had a group of 11, and I was amazed we were seated right away. The outdoor booth wasn't comfortable, but the atmosphere & location were wonderful. The sand, birds, and water made it feel like the beach was nearby, and we had nice live music playing. The service was great considering how busy the place was on a Wednesday evening. The drinks and food were yummy. I enjoyed the mac n cheese, though I had hoped for a crab dish that was out of the ordinary for me.
Kate Burkholder — Google review
We really enjoyed this restaurant! Called ahead to ask the best time for a table of 11 for dinner, and they were able to advise us (I recommend this for a large group during Summer, as all of the restaurants get quite busy!) Our waitress was incredibly helpful! One of us has a child with a severe peanut + tree nut allergy, and she went out of her way to take photos of package ingredients to make sure all was safe! We actually chose this restaurant because others on an allergen website recommended it for helpfulness and safety. She was also just incredibly kind, efficient, knowledgeable, and timely - which I know is hard during peak season, especially with such a large group! The atmosphere was great! We sat outside, and there was live music and a beautiful view! The kids loved the sand, and the fishbowl slushies, which kept them entertained while we waited for our food. The food was delicious, but felt a little overpriced. However, all the other things made it a very good experience, and we all left happy! I highly recommend the seasoned waffle fries as a side - super yum!

Ropewalk is a pretty cool spot on the water. It's bar like atmosphere is fun but the sandy play area also invites children. I particularly like the fried shrimp. The menu is varied and offers a lot of different choices. I recommend a stop if you can.
