Bangor

Bangor is a city in Maine. On Main Street, a towering statue of folkloric lumberjack Paul Bunyan hints at Bangor’s former status as a timber hub. The Maine Discovery Museum has hands-on exhibits on nature, science and the arts, geared to kids. Nearby, the University of Maine Museum of Art focuses on modern and contemporary works. To the north, Bangor City Forest is crossed by trails and inhabited by beaver and deer.

We searched for a lovely, scenic, quiet and historic special spot for our child to rest in peace. We discovered Mt Hope. We decided upon the Scattering Garden Memorial area. Emily and Steve, superintendents, made us welcome in the lodge with an appointment. We were able to pick a garden spot, were assisted with placing our cremains and the Bronze plaque ordered will be added to the Memorial Wall in a few months. The option was perfect for our family; dignified special, affordable and lovely. Thank you Mt Hope, Emily and Steve. Mt Hope, a historic American garden cemetary is also a peaceful spot to walk or jog on a summer evening with many paths and hills.
JKC Maine — Google review
The terrain is just too hard to walk around. There are holes, mounds, water drainage gullies, hills and poorly maintained.
T Walther (Gravewalker) — Google review
An absolutely stunning garden cemetery. I can't recommend stopping by enough. There are lovely walking trails throughout perfect for a stroll. There is also an abundance of wild life to be seem like birds and turtles. We took the walking tour with the local historical society and it was a wealth of information. About the Graves themselves and those buried there and the over all cemetery. I'm so glad we did because we learned so much. Lots of walking up and down hills so be ready for that... but it's well worth it.
Kate Sutliff — Google review
Really a beautiful cemetery in its own right - the older section has beautiful monuments and hills and stairs - definitely much more interesting than your average cemetery. If you're a Stephen King fan, you can see where he took some of his names from grave stones, and even places where they shot some of the adaptations that King was in. It's confusing to drive around, but just keep going and you'll find interesting stuff. It'd be a great place to walk if you live here. (Make sure to book sktours for an explanation of the King tie-ins.)
Sara Beth Wade — Google review
Such a beautiful cemetery definitely the nicest one we have ever been to! I wish I had more time it was fabulous to walk all around it and up those awesome stairs so old very interesting!
Char M — Google review
The gates that I went to were closed on weekends. This is the gates next to the Koren War memoral and civel war memoral.. this cemetery is the second oldest in the United States after the one in Boston, Ma that it was patterned after. It's called that because of the landscaping with ponds, shrubs and spacing of the graves.

I am not one to venture to cemeteries for fun, but this one was an exception and I am glad I went. This is a very beautiful cemetery and on a pleasant fall day it was very relaxing in the middle of the pandemic. There are some fascinating headstones combined with the tie to the King novel, it just all came together.
Perks Advisor — Google review
Really good place to see the leaves in the fall. My visit was in the middle of October, and the weather did not disappoint! Such a cool cemetery to visit. Lots of history as well. A few of the headstones play music, tbh, was kinda creepy but also really neat. I was caught of guard by the first one lol. If you’re ever in Bangor, I’d definitely recommend a visit.
Theresa — Google review
Second oldest cemetery in United States established in 1834. Very historic and lovely place to visit and reflect. Many civil war generals and other notable figures resting here. Place is nicely kept and the momuments are true art pieces.
Shannon Randall — Google review
Gorgeous Cemetery. The tombstones are works of art! The grounds are very nicely kept. Walked here almost everyday when I visited family for a week. The music playing a couple times a day was an interesting, eerie touch. I loved it!
Elda Clevenger — Google review
I love walking through an old cemetery and this one was no exception. It’s beautiful and there are so many things to notice. We chatted with a woman walking and she showed us some neat things while we were there as far as the older parts and certain headstones. History is all over the place here.

The Cole Land Transportation Museum is a charming establishment displaying an impressive collection of vintage cars, trucks, farm equipment, and military vehicles. For a very reasonable price, visitors can witness the world's largest indoor collection of snowplows as well as other forms of transportation such as bicycles, tractors, trains, semis, busses, campers and motorcycles.
I was much more impressed than I thought I'd be. The price is very reasonable for all you get to see. The museum claims to have the world's largest indoor collection of snowplows. They have bicycles, tractors, trains, semis, busses, campers, scooters, motorcycles, just about every imaginable form of transportation. I spent about 2 hours here but I would imagine most would spend a bit less. Plan on one hour bare minimum.
Michael Miller — Google review
So much history! Galen should have been proud to gather all of that history together! Loved the variety of transportation types. Loved the snow plow history especially. So neat and for a small entry fee was a great way to spend a couple hours.
Katie B — Google review
We’ve driven by this place dozens of times and we finally stopped by for a visit. It was awesome! The kids loved all the big vehicles, especially the large train. There was a scavenger hunt which kept the kids busy and plenty to see. Definitely worth the price of admission.
Jared Avery — Google review
Amazing collection of all kinds of land based transportation machines from huge road snow blowers to sleds and sleighs to toboggans. You'll see the evolution of delivery trucks from horse drawn to modern 18 wheelers. They have a fine collection of fire trucks from horse drawn to the more modern. They have rail cars and a diesel locomotive. There is an extensive military memorabilia display. There are restored cars dating from the 1920's up. This is a must see museum for all ages.
Charlie Marken — Google review
This is an awesome museum! There are memorials outside too. Reasonably priced, scavenger hunts for adults and kids. Well worth your time!
Holly Stettner — Google review
Really worthwhile to stop in here if it moves as some sort of transportation it is here. Was pleasently surprises at how interesting it is. Easy to walk through places to sit and videos to watch. Seems you can arrange for tours for groups. Enjoyed our visit.
carla penkala — Google review
Far more in this museum than the outside size would suggest. A fascinating look at Maine's snow removal, firefighting, train systems,, and more! Knowledgeable staff, clean restrooms, plenty of hand sanitizer... Truly worth the trip
Deb Welaish Sutphen — Google review
Old history preserved in its original look some were repaired. The Willys military jeep and the ford military jeep run and drive. $10 admission for adults under 18 yrs free 🪖senior discount. Looking through history kept me smiling and giggling.
casinocash hsac — Google review
Not much to say about this museum other than it is absolutely awesome. My kids love coming here, and we've been a few times with more to come. Very affordable, kids are free, so it's less than 20 bucks for my wife and I. Do the scavenger hunt, you'll easily spend more than an hour admiring everything.
SimmerDown — Google review
It is an excellent high quality museum with hundreds of land vehicles on display.
Alan Carter — Google review
Its so much more than what we thought. History mixed in with the transportation and train cars with video regarding the history of the area including transportation and thigs you could watch. We spent a couple of hours here but probably could have spent longer. The staff are all friendly and knowledgeable
Nancy Benton — Google review
Lovely place for kids. I used to go to museums like this as a kids. Looking at the slice of life in different times is always fun. Good if you're on a road trip and need an hour or two to kill check it out.
Jeff Ridout — Google review
If you are in Bangor I would recommend stopping in. The cool thing before we even started looking, they give free walking sticks to combat era vets, so both my spouse and I received one. Also, they have clipboards listed easy, medium and hard with pictures on them to have a scavenger hunt for items around the whole museum. Our 11 year took a medium one and she found everything, she loved doing it. We also took one and it added to the overall experience. The 2 sections I really enjoyed were the fire department aisles and the military section of a few vehicles and artifacts dating from the Civil War to Desert Storm. Worth the stop!

Fantastic statue! No close parking so I took pictures from the street. If you are near Bangor, it is worth the drive and if you have the time, casino is across the street!!!
Kevin Barrett — Google review
I made it here after a long day’s road trip drive. It was cool and everything I imagined! Major thing was how there wasn’t a parking lot. I wondered what people do during the day when they arrive. I parked nearby and just moved my car after I was done snapping a few pictures.

We parked across the street and walked over. The statue is impressive in size. As a fan of the movie It, I enjoyed seeing it in person!

May we never forget out Folk heros we learned about growing up. If you're in the area, stop by and snap some fun pics of this 30 foot statue.

Cool place to stop for a photo.....it's alot bigger looking in person.
Michelle Costigan — Google review
Great spot for a photo op while in Bangor but nearby parking is an issue.
D Templeton — Google review
Just the 31-foot statue. There was no plaque that I could see. And of course, there is a no climbing the statue sign. No bail money, so I refrained.
Rhonda Yost — Google review
This is a very well made statue of that great lumberjack Paul Bunyan He stands eather thirty one (31) or thirty two feet tall (32). Parking is not close so I parked across the stree in the Circle K parking lot that has a sign for Circle K customers cars will be towed at customer expence. Sincce it was a Sunday afternoon I took since I was only there fir about 10 minunits. No Babe the blue ox.
Moving on with Old man river — Google review
I was told a must-see was the Paul Bunyan Statue in Bangor, Maine. A short trip by car from the charming downtown, we found him. Unfortunately, not easy to find a place to park to take the picture, for it is a busy intersection for one of the main highways In any case, fun to see. .now want to read more about his tall tales.
Kathy Condon — Google review
We had to check out bih Paul on our first time ever to Bangor! I'm comparing this ole guy from my Minnesotan upbringing - home to many a handsome PB statue - and as a long-time listener of the tales. Also, as a reader/viewer of Stephen King stories while in Bangor, it was fun to imagine if this statue would come alive like in 🎈It!!
Jennifer Corley — Google review
This is a quirky statue that you would think you could only find in Maine, however, Paul Bunyan is in other cities as well. The Bangor version is quite high and seemingly randomly located next to a medical building. Why? I am not sure. But it can be fun to try to find him while on Main Street.
Perks Advisor — Google review
A statue of Paul Bunyan who tried to kill one of the characters in Stephen King's It 2. Atmospheric!
Alla Samuseva — Google review
Very cool seeing Paul! Had forgotten this was a part of Stephen Kings novel!
Shannon Story — Google review
Delightfully creepy and odd, this is a brief must-see for fans of Stephen King's "It". We parked behind the Cross Insurance Center and walked around to the statue on a rainy Saturday. It's much bigger than you expect.
Joe Silber — Google review
It's just a fun stop while out seeing the sights in Bangor. Wish we could have gotten a picture with our truck in front of the statue, but unless you stop on the main road, there is not a good way to it. The area around the statue is clean and well kept.
Nancy Benton — Google review
Myself and a group of my coworkers arrived in Bangor, tired and late at night. The next morning we woke up to find ourselves in the heart of Stephen King's country. It was rainy and grey the next day, but that didn't stop any of us from wandering around. The first thing we saw after leaving our casino lodgings was the Paul Bunyan statue. Naturally, we wandered over for photos. Much later, I would hear about how the same statue attacked characters in Stephen King's novel It....I can see it now.
William Mc — Google review
This is an odd statue it just appears and it is so much in the middle of no where. But Paul is so big it gives me the shivers. Very manly too with his flannel shirt and full beard. However, the green jeans make me question things.

The Maine Discovery Museum is a three-story complex located in Downtown that offers interactive exhibits on science and the arts. The museum provides hands-on learning opportunities for children, making it a great place for families to visit. Each floor has different themes with various activities available for all ages. In addition to furry animals, the museum also features non-furry animals such as turtles, lizards, and snakes.
The kids loved it. What a neat place to have a birthday party!
Sarah — Google review
Perfect activity for a rainy day (or sunny!). Brought my 2.5 & 5 year old and we could’ve spent all day. It’s 3 levels, each floor has multiple activities to do. There was a reptile touch & talk that we just missed. We saw that this is a museum in the reciprocal program that our Florida museum membership was apart of - and Sam made it so easy to get in free with our pass. The gift shop is so affordable. Mason was so helpful when my son asked if he could put coins in a donation tornado thing, he took his own wallet out and that just was so sweet. We can’t wait to return! The place was a bit warm, so I’d dress in layers to keep cool.

A fabulous place, and I highly recommends families to check it out. This Children Museum is consists of three floors. Each floors have different themes, and a lot hands on activists. My 5 years old love it, and we all enjoys our family fun educational time there. They also have some of non-furry ANIMALS We have some amazing friends like lizards turtles and snakes. The staff members were so welcoming and friendly. Reservations are currently required to visit the museum Because of COVID-19, they also have two different sections, morning and afternoon these are their new hours. New Hours Wednesday - Saturday Morning: 10 AM - 1 PM Closed from 1 PM - 2 PM Afternoon: 2 PM - 5 PM

Everything is super interactive for the kids, and I caught myself having fun more than a few times too! The price point is fabulous and you can easily spend 2+ hours there. We loved the snack room area as a place to decompress and settle down, the gift shop was very fairly priced, and it was really clean. 10/10 will go back.

What a fun surprise it was to stumble upon this place with an almost 4 year old. I wasn't sure what to expect but the exhibits were so fun and well thought out - my daughter did NOT want to leave. Great job to the staff that maintains and runs everything - there is something for every kid.

Our family Loves the Maine Discovery Museum!! We brought our 5year old granddaughter Saturday, She had a Great Time!! It had been a little while since our last visit and we were pleased to see the new exhibits!! Tomorrow is our 3year old granddaughters turn and I invited a friend and her 3yr. old to join us! We were impressed as usual Saturday with how clean and inviting the whole facility was! Thank You for keeping the Children’s Museum a Great Place for Fun and Imagination!!!

Had a great time taking our daughter here. We will definitely be back when she's a little bit older so she can enjoy it more!
Samantha Hallihan — Google review
Perfect for my four year old, but not enough to do for my eight or thirteen year old. They did find some things interesting but it’s geared towards a bit of a younger crowd. It was a good way to spend some time leaning on a rainy day though. Don’t forget to use your science museum reciprocity benefits here! We got in for free using our home museum membership.

The Hollywood Casino Hotel & Raceway Bangor is a contemporary establishment that features warm rooms and suites along with a casino, racetrack, and three dining options. It is recommended to use the booking website HE. as they typically offer cheaper rates compared to others. This hotel is highly regarded in the area and has been a favorite for years due to its well-appointed, spacious rooms featuring comfortable king-sized beds.
Remember to use Hᴏᴛᴇʟʙᴏʟʟʏ.ᴄᴏᴍ when booking any hotel. They compare countless booking websites and typically will have rates much cheaper compared to others! You're welcome :)! This hotel is one of my favorites in this area. I've been staying here for years. If you stay for a few nights you will love it I'm sure! Beautiful hotel with well appointed, spacious rooms. The king-sized bed was very comfortable. Great value for the money.

This was a surprisingly great place to stay on business! I was extremely apprehensive due to it being a casino but was impressed with the tastefully appointed rooms. I was in an accessible so it was fairly large (I did not book this though). The room was very clean, I really can’t say anything there. The staff at the desk were friendly and I went to eat at their restaurant for dinner which is on the non-21 side/off the gaming floor. The food was great and the service from Drake was outstanding considering how stretched thin they were with a fairly large crowd of people likely living beyond their means dumping their social security at the casino. The location is right downtown within walking distance to other restaurants if you do not feel like people watching the high roller losers combined with feeling like you’re in a nursing home. The only negatives I have are my room was literally equally close to both the ice machine and elevator; combined with high roller wannabes the noise from the hallway was rough, I just used my phone for white noise no biggie this is what I get for staying at a casino. The other issue was that the air conditioner was not working. It was hot in the room so I called the front desk, they gave me some instruction and to call back if it didn’t work. It didn’t so they said they’d call maintenance to come take a look, which they never did however it naturally cooled down so no biggie anyways. I’ll stay there again!

Me and my friends lived here for two nights during our trip to Acadia National Park. It's about 1 hr drive to the park. Large parking lot and free parking if you live or play here. You won't be panic with finding a parking lot. Affordable price to live here. But just be aware that the Casino close at midnight.
Jorrina Cheng — Google review
Easy check-in & parking. Friendly front desk person. My room was fantastic and economical. The room had everything I needed and more. Clean, comfortable, and roomy. I stayed in Bar Harbor last night for much more and got much less. I don't understand any of the bad reviews. We travel all the time and this is a great hotel.
D D — Google review
Friendly staff, very helpful. Casino is clean and not as crowded as many casinos. Bartender was nice. Plenty of parking. Rooms seemed to have changed since the pandemic (Covid 19), just seems a little cheaper than previously. In room safe and fridge. No microwave in the room. No vending machines for midnight snacks. Toilet paper at Bagel Central is better.
Nathan Merrill — Google review
It was so much fun! It was just the right size. I could wander around and play whatever I wanted and still find the person I came with easily when I wanted. The card system was great! It accumulated points that I used for a meal. AND not only did I have loads of fun playing, I came out with more money than I brought. I am from out of state visiting family. I will definitely visit this casino next time I visit Maine.
Karen Ramazani — Google review
Always a fun experience, set your limit and you will have the time of your life. I go a few times a year and the place is full of entertainment with slots and card games. I highly recommend trying out Hollywood Casino. If you choose to stay the hotel is really nice. The restaurant on the first floor is also amazing. Every time I've been win or lose I have had such a good experience. So if you're in Bangor and looking for something entertaining to do and the perk of it all is you just might win! So good luck to you and enjoy your gaming experience if you choose Hollywood casino. As a local guide I try to write about positive experiences and I don't typically write about places unless I have had that.
Derek L Maine — Google review
Over all nice small casino.. Shockingly they sign you up for the "rewards" program-card. Had it for years got 0 comps, even when we visit 5 times in a month which is extreme for my habits. Then waiting 4 hours for a Black Jack table and left with out playing.. better luck next time hollywoods.
Corey Turner — Google review
I was actually pretty surprised how big it was in here, looks can be deceiving sometimes! There was plenty of parking, the casino itself wasn’t packed (although I was there around noon on a Wednesday) and staff was attentive and helpful. They had a good (not great) variety of slots, and a small table game area as well. I only stayed long enough to lose my money haha but would definitely be willing to go again and see what else they have to offer. It didn’t seem much smaller than Oxford, actually very similar in design and layout but I was impressed for a casino in a small town in Maine.
Amanda Sapuan — Google review
I’m a 32 year old grown married man with a kid and I was asked to show my ID 5 different occasions, some by the same casino employee. There’s an extremely poor liquor selection and you cannot order shots, most cannot even be served over the rocks. There’s a nice amount of slots to choose from but the popular ones are always occupied by the same people, for hours on end, notably the dragon cash machines towards the “high limit” area. Not many “high limit” machines to choose from while on that topic. If you aren’t playing a higher limit machine by the way, you’re likely to be passed by the cocktail waitresses. I was sitting at one machine for over an hour and wasn’t asked one time. The hotel amenities are poor, there’s nothing drawing you in the place other than the hallway which is very elegant & decorative. But when you reach the floor you’re met by that dreaded employee asking you for ID. I was told if you look under the age of 30 you need to show it. There’s only one place to choose from for food, which is priced well, but the food is very standard. This was by far the worst experience at any casino I’ve been to. I will NOT be returning nor will I ever recommend a friend or family member to endure the poor experience of this “casino”. Zero stars if I could.
Ronny Hyde — Google review
Came in to town for a concert. The room was good, and the restaurants were good. But the people in the Casino were a little over Zealous. I wanted to get to my room from the main road out from and was given a hard time about it. There should be an entrance on that side that has room access if you don't want people going thru that was. Otherwise, just relax and take care of your customers who are paying good money and don't want to be harassed over a hot dog.
Peter White — Google review
Hotel was nice but starting to show it's age. Only microwave in lobby area. Lots of homeless around outside hotel. Walking around is at your own risk. Casino was very small compared to other Hollywood casinos. Only place I have been that the chairs are bolted to the floor. One size fits all, it was very uncomfortable to play. Good luck getting anything to drink when on game floor. Very few servers walking around. Lady pit boss was very rude.
James Hall — Google review
Cozy, laid back atmosphere. Quiet rooms. The atmosphere in the casino is laid back, with plenty of options to choose from. Slots start off as low as 1-5 cents a pull. No start off fees or minimum play. It's definitely worth the price for the night or just to stop by and play some slots before heading to your destination.
Jodi “Momma Bear” Hynes — Google review
The loyalty system is REALLY messed up. Nobody really knew what they were doing. We had some points but we couldn't use them They kept peddling this phone app, which is kinda pointless because its for PLAY money. Fake money. Why advertise that in a casino where you can gamble REAL money? Its bizarre. What is weirder, is that you can use your point play and use it to get FAKE coins in the app. WHY ON EARTH WOULD YOU WANT TO DO THAT!? I tried to speak with a manager, I was given a phone number. I called it, no reply. A bit of a disaster to be honest.
s34nVideos — Google review
Hotel is empty, not a ton going on for night. Asked for an upgrade with the hotel being empty. Told they are "fully booked", with a empty parking garage and no tour buss or large scale event on a Monday night? Are you sure? And the kitchen is closed Monday and Tuesday offering a $5.00 credit. Is that what dinner value is worth when it is open? And great view of the roof!
Jesson Vasey — Google review
Room was billed as "city view" but overlooked the roof and side of the parking garage. Other than that minor, minor issue the room was exceptionally clean. The front desk staff was welcoming and friendly. Casino staff were friendly, too. If you check out the restaurant by the casino, I strongly recommend the fish tacos, they were far better than I had anticipated.

Came to town for the Loggers Expo. Hotel is clean and comfortable, price was really high for that weekend. No breakfast or self serve coffee bar, you need to wait in line for the host to pour an 8 Oz. Cup from behind the counter... I would prefer to pour it myself. Casino staff was nice, slots? not so much. 99 hops had good food and reasonable prices. All in all I would say 4 stars

I had an amazing week at Hollywood Slots Casino Hotel and Raceway. The hotel is top-notch with spacious, clean rooms and attentive staff. The casino offers a fantastic variety of games, from slots to table games. Dining options are diverse, and the food quality is excellent. There's also live entertainment and thrilling horse races at the raceway. The amenities like the pool, spa, and fitness center are great for relaxation. The staff's friendliness left a positive impression. In summary, it's a well-rounded destination for gaming and entertainment, and I can't wait to go back.

I was extremely disappointed with my experience at the Hollywood Casino. The room was far from clean, as evident by the presence of someone else's sock left behind. To make matters worse, the bed had noticeable stains, making it clear that cleanliness is not a priority. This experience left a lasting negative impression, and I do not recommend this hotel based on the lack of room conditions. Completely grossed me out

I've played here often over the years. Don't win a lot, but when I do it's huge! Fun time at the Hollywood Casino. Always have free parking available. Lots of different games to choose from. Slots to tables, video poker and new updated games. Huge bar area with TV's, restaurants and self service coffee/soda bar. Very nice bathrooms and the atmosphere is incredible! Rooms are cozy and very clean.

DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT pay the extra money for the suite with the hot tub in the room , the tub is weak and old and doesn't really have any pressure , the bed is HORRIBLE!! overall it's a decent room but not worth $425 ! could've gotten a room at residence inn for half the price! water pressure in the shower fluctuates temperature and pressure. i will give them credit on cleanliness, but the parking is too tight in the garage as well overall just not very impressed and likely will never stay at this hotel again and if i do it'll be the less expensive room for sure

After a nice day in Bangor our group decided to stop in to play some slots and black jack.and there was an issue with my ID. Never had an issue before and always used the same ID. After being told very loudly they need to call security to look at it , was refused by the security saying they couldn’t accept it. Security was extremely pompous and rude . The picture of little man syndrome. Not sure how this guy got his job but his people skills are seriously lacking. Our whole group left. I’ve always enjoyed visiting Hollywood slots but I will not be back. I will be going to Oxford casino in the future. I feel really bad for anyone that has to deal with security Bobby B at Hollywood slots. He’s not a good representation for a business that deals with the public.

The lowest consistent table limits for any legitimate casino Ive been to. Friendly pit bosses and dealers, good table drink service. Small but they have a good variety of table games and your typical slots. I would say more table game variety then some larger venues. You dont have to spend a fortune to have a good time. Will certainly be back!

We stayed for a couple nights here during the winter storm. Most of the town (Bangor) was out of power and stores are closed. The check in & check out process was fast and the staff was professional. We got $5 store credit per day during our stay. Spacious room, working fridge, and strong water pressure! Very clean overall. However the AC was not cold, feels like the heater always on. The pillow was also a bit small. The casino was okay. Nothing special, the atmosphere was lacking and a bit gloomy. The waitress was nice and accommodating. The restaurant inside the casino was hectic and service was a bit slow because they were understaffed. Food was ok and fairly priced. Big free parking building with a EV charging port (Tesla Wallchargers) for free. Overall 7/10

Barbecue restaurant
Easygoing chain serving Alabama-style pulled pork & other meats smoked in-house.
Fast. Friendly. Extremely affordable. Super enthusiastic window/front counter guy and I mean that in the best way possible! First time customers, they walked us through the menu and the options available. I had the pulled pork, very good! My husband enjoyed his chicken sandwich. Sides were all very good and I liked the mac n cheese and I’m not a mac n cheese fan at all. Really good down to earth vibe, comfortable atmosphere. We plan to return as often as possible when in the area, so much better than any of the fast food on every corner.

I'm from the deep South. I have a hard time finding BBQ joints that are Southern quality in the North. This is one of those places. This tasted like home. They don't have a sampler, which is my only very slight complaint. They did, however, let me get a kids plate and add all the different barbecued goodness as sides. It cost me like $22 to get everything that I wanted like that plus a drink. I'm definitely going back.

Never a bad meal. The pulled pork platter with any sides is always a great choice. The prices may have increased but the quality and deliciousness is still there so it's worth it ! The staff are always kind and entertaining.
Jean-Baptiste Cochenet — Google review
Staff was friendly and quick. The food was pretty good. The brisket was tender and moist, but I would have preferred a more “smoked” flavor. The sauce was a bit lack luster and mild. The Mac and cheese is of the more cohesive drier type, very buttery and cheesy. The potato salad needed a bit of salt, but was excellent. The corn bread is of the sweet type, and nice and crusty. Over all, pretty dang good.

We went for the first time today! The counter server was wonderful in explaining all the options and very patient with us while we decided. Food was delivered quickly and exceeded our expectations- delicious!! One meal of Chicken Wings with Baked Beams and Seasoned Fries, and a second of Smoked Chicken (on the bone as requested) Green Beans and Mac and Cheese. Yum and very ample portions along with toasted cornbread. Would definitely recommend and go again if we we were in the area. Staff really were super friendly and helpful!

Excellent meal. Pulled pork is delish and so was the rest of the meal. Price is affordable. Hostess was super nice. I am glad we ended our vacation with a stop @ Moe's. Great staff too!

Staff was super friendly, the second we walked in the door. They all had something they really love to eat. The salad was huge.

This place is such a big taste of home. (The South.) They even bagged our desserts separate! It's consistently delicious, fast, and the staff go out of their way to make it a nice experience. Would recommend 10/10 the brisket, pulled pork, and turkey platters. Their Mac and Cheese is always perfect, and their green beans and collard greens are to die for. Don't forget your cornbread!

Best BBQ around and one of our favorite places to eat in the area. Wonderful food, fast service, awesome employees who are always so friendly and helpful. Great place to take kids too, ours love the tenders and mac and cheese. So many tasty options. The rewards program is very generous too.

The food was delicious and done well by. The place was clean and tidy. The ordering was easy. The kitchen was open to the public eye and clean. The small portion of BBQ Ribs with Cole Slaw and Baked Beans was outrageously good. Cole Slaw had a nice surprising twist to it. The Sandwich BAMA Style was good too, along with Mac-n-Cheese and Collard Greens. The staff was attentive and felt like they were happy to be there.

Seafood market
Seafood restaurant
Located in Bangor, McLaughlin's Lobsters, Seafood & Takeout is a family-run roadside eatery that offers live lobsters and a variety of prepared seafood dishes. While it primarily operates as a take-out spot, visitors can enjoy their meals at picnic tables on-site. The menu features an array of options including sizzling fried clams, delicate scallops, homemade chowders, and the renowned Maine lobster prepared through baking, grilling or steaming.
Best place for live Iobsters, shrimp, haddock, clams, oysters etc. in the Bangor area. Very competitive prices and always super fresh. We always just buy everything to-go and cook our lobster at home but there are tables outside where you can eat. Highly recommend if you're looking for fresh seafood. They also carry butter, lemons, cocktail sauce, etc as well as chowders.. Lisa Steele Author of The Fresh Eggs Daily Cookbook

My #1 choice to go for when I want or need fresh seafood. The inside of the shop is small but don't let that fool you. Wide variety of fresh and frozen fish and seafood. Outdoor picnic area During the warmer months. Definitely check them out if you are looking for top quality seafood. Went back for takeout and got a crabmeat roll and fried mushrooms. They definitely don't skimp on anything. Absolutely delicious! Plenty of outdoor seating if you want to sit and enjoy your food.

Wow. The locals suggested we eat here and I am so happy they did. We loved the food and surprisingly enjoyed the laidback environment. The lobster portions were generous and a lot cheaper than other area restaurants. I can't wait to go back and get more lazy lobster or lobster rolls here. The ice cream is delicious too! The staff was fantastic and service was quick.

First good experience...this Cardinal! I was on the phone in the parking lot talking to my friend. The Cardinal flew on the hood of my car, and then my side mirror. He sat and looked for a few seconds. I've never been that close. I shared my experience at the counter. Apparently, he is a regular. I wasn't as special as I'd hoped. With that said, the woman at the counter was extremely helpful and patient with my many questions. I was shipping fresh lobster to Virginia. I normally order through Goldbelly. I never will again. The price was definitely better. I moved away from Maine a few years ago. This place is EXACTLY why I'm back. I plan on making it a regular stop. The customer service is the icing on the cake!
Darlene Donnelly — Google review
Had the half pound lobster. It was sort of disappointing because the lobster was very rubbery. Tasted great but it was pretty chewy. They have very good onion rings and coleslaw. I’ll be back but I’m thinking I’ll have the clams next time. There’s an Porta John that is nasty and when someone would open the door you would get a big whiff of nastiness. Indoor plumbing would certainly help with the atmosphere.

It was awesome! I'm originally from down south and I really miss good seafood! What I got here today filled that little hole in my soul. Everyone was very nice.

This is a seafood shack. Don’t expect anything that started off life as a plant. However, the seafood is done extremely well. My scallops were fantastic and my partner enjoyed the lobster rolls. If you come from out of town, don’t mind and will know.

Amazing Lobster Rolls! Probably the best I’ve had. Very creamy and buttery, they’re addictive, definitely a MUST GO if you pass through Bangor, ME. There’s benches outside for outside seating, customer service is great.

In the mood for another lobster roll. Quick search of the area, and I found McLaughlins's Lobster, Seafood. I ordered the lobster roll with fries and coleslaw. The staff were friendly and answered any questions that I had. Food came out hot and fresh. The lobster roll came with warm butter, which was delicious! Would highly recommend it. If you're in the area definitely stop by and have some good food.

Great tasting lobster rolls and crab rolls. But they are pricey! $20 bucks each. Their dine in shack is not open yet. But you could take it to go! They have raw fish, clams, lobster, and crabs 🦀 if you lookin to broil. Local restaurants buy from them.

First came in and I was greeted with warm smiles and hellos. Felt like a regular even though it was my first time. The food is beyond fresh and taste just as such. Best Lobster Roll I’ve had and I’ve had some in different regions. So much so I ordered two. I would definitely make the trek up to Bangor, ME just to eat their food again. The dinner and full menu is not available on Tuesday and Wednesdays. So plan your arrival accordingly. Tons of people arrived and left thinking they were completely opened but I guess they are short staffed those two days.
Rashad Shelton — Google review
Went to Maine for a week in mid- October and this was our first stop off Bangor Airport; hands down the best lobster joint in our experience... they definitely dont hold back on the quality and quantity of the lobster despite it being off season. At the end of our trip we stocked up on 6 more rolls on the way back to the airport- absolutely obsessed.
Brie Hsu — Google review
Great prompt service followed by an enjoyable treat of a lobster roll. Not a bunch of other stuff , just the essentials - lobster chunks, roll, and mato-based seasoning to pull it all together. Lobster was served cool but on a warm roll. Outdoor seating has cover if it rains. But by this time of year the outside kitchen was closed, so no crowd. We ordered from the seafood counter and also bought the clay chowder. Can't wait to try it. Glad we stopped off for this bite to eat on our way through Bangor, ME.
James Skapars — Google review
I didn't want to cook tonight but still wanted some "home cooking". I stopped at McLaughlins and had a hard time choosing between the seafood chowder or the lobster Mac and cheese. So I got both. The chowder was loaded with seafood and tasted like it had been cooking for hours, the broth was so flavorful. The Lobster mac and cheese did not skimp on the lobster or the cheese. Was simply delicious. Perfect amount for 2 of us. Highly recommend. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ My belly is full and I didn't have to cook.

American restaurant
Bar
11 Central is a charming eatery located in Bangor, known for its American cuisine and craft cocktails. The restaurant features exposed-brick walls adorned with local art, creating a cozy atmosphere. Their menu creation process involves the entire staff, resulting in whimsical subcategories like Farms, Fins, and Fur & Feathers. They prioritize sourcing local ingredients for their dishes and make all soups, sauces, desserts, and drinks in-house.
Came here for an early dinner. It's well staffed, running smoothly. The menu has plenty of options for everyone. I sat at the bar where I enjoyed a lovely glass of wine and the scallop pasta dish, which was incredible. Very well portioned, would make a great meal if you have a big appetite or leave plenty of leftovers if you don't. Upscale casual setting, very comfortable.

Gluten free ... Chicken Parm ..not good. Really spicy and salty. Potatoes equally salty and over cooked..kind of a burnt taste. Waited a very long time to get food. The Cesar salad was barely anything on the plate. Brought it out with croutons... Had to take it back and get new next to nothing salad. Couldn't eat the dinner either as the spiciness and salt prevented me from eating more than a few bites. Server was hardly interested in us or the need for gluten free. Though he was nice when he was around. Won't be back... And am currently hoping I don't get ill from eating where they say they do gluten free well... But proved to me that they don't.

We dine here frequently. The service is consistently great as is the food. I often enjoy the shrimp scampi but tried the Gnocchi with sausage tonight. The spice was perfect. My husband usually has a piece of fish and the salmon is always prepared perfect. The atmosphere is a mix of casual and upscale, we will dine here for special events and also a weekday dinner. We’re so happy they are in Bangor.

The atmosphere used to be elegant. It looks a bit cheap. I could turn it spectacular in under$1000. They need to change the purple, get new bar stools, and find a way to eliminate the cold draft. Service and food make up for the appearance.

11 Central has become one of my go-to places for dining on Friday nights! Whether it's a romantic dinner, a gathering with friends, or any celebration, this restaurant never disappoints. The atmosphere is inviting, creating the perfect setting for an enjoyable evening. On Fridays, there is usually a wait of 20-25 minutes, and if tables are unavailable, sitting at the bar is an option. Reservations are accepted for parties of six or more, and you can call ahead to check seat availability and wait times. When it comes to the food, I highly recommend trying the "Dat's A Really Gouda Pizza" and the "Chicken Cordon Bleu - 11 Central Style." They are both exceptional. The menu offers a diverse range of options to cater to various preferences. The bar at Restaurant 11 Central offers an impressive selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. The skilled bartenders craft delicious cocktails that perfectly complement your meal. The friendly and attentive staff, including the owner/manager who supervises the floor, contributes to the exceptional dining experience. While parking can be challenging in the area, there is convenient paid parking available at Pickering Square Parking Garage, just a 5-minute walk away from the restaurant. In conclusion, Restaurant 11 Central is a must-visit in Bangor, Maine, offering an inviting ambiance, delicious food, and friendly service. As a regular customer, I can confidently say that it never disappoints!

We really enjoyed our dinner at 11 Central. The elk chowder bowl is huge and really filling. Everyone else enjoyed their pasta as. We finished it with pumpkin cheesecake that was really light and delicate. Our server was superb. The place inside is a little dark so it gets hard to see. There are free parking on the side of the street

Visiting Acadia again and discovered this gem on our first night back in Bangor. We had a couple cocktails, and had the scallops appetizer, seafood fettuccine, and shrimp scampi pasta. Everything was absolutely delicious! But the service was absolute perfection....friendly, efficient, and with perfect timing. And the atmosphere was so warm and comfortable....smart casual. We're bookmarking this place and will be back for sure.
HAI CHANG — Google review
Brought my wife out for a special 31st wedding anniversary dinner, but we were made to feel anything but special. The hostess told us it would be a one hour wait, we just happened to ask about the couple of empty tables, she told us people already at the bar were taking those tables. Pretty much everyone at the bar left shortly thereafter, none of whom moved to those tables, which sat empty for over an hour. Then later some new people came in and were immediately seated at those tables. It would appear the hostess blatantly lied to us. Then, while we were seated at the bar, an elderly couple attempted to use the chair next to us, which had been empty for at least half an hour, but were told by one of the bartenders the seat was already taken. About 15 minutes later, a person who was clearly the bartender's friend came in and sat in the chair, displacing the elderly man leaning against it (he told us he had a bad back). So, it seems like when 11 Central says they don't take reservations, they mean they don't take reservations unless you're on their "A" list. Made us feel like 2nd class citizens. And the food was only OK, salads were miniscule, the rice severely undercooked, and the shrimp scampi bland. The lamb lollipops were good, as was the pork, so at least there's that. One of the three employees we encountered was nice and treated us well (Sinclair), the two others not so much. We will not be back, nor will we be recommending to any friends or family.

Such a great experience. Great food and fantastic coffee. Such a nice vibe from the works and the atmosphere. This is your modern coffee shop with great burgers and sandwiches. They also have an outdoor seating which is great for the summer months. In a great location. If you are coming downtown bangor, definitely check out the grind house, you won’t be disappointed!!

Their best menu offerings are the burgers. Also, some interesting latte flavors. Had one with banana, and it was pretty darn good. Minus one star just because while most visits have been good, there have been times I've gone and for whatever it just wasn't as good as usual. But normally quite tasty.

It is hard to resist the House of Grind and once I heard I had to come quickly. In the morning they offer coffee, eggs and pastries. It has a quasi diner feel. The grind pastries had their own profiles and the maple glazed bun connected with me. It was oh oh oh so good and I swallowed the whole pastry without even remembering whether it was the maple or the pumpkin. You might feel guilty afterward, but it sure went down well with Grind coffee. I am sure I will be back to Grind looking for a new type of pastry soon.

I also had a Farmer Dan’s bowl which was so filling that it will definitely hold me through my busy morning.

Today, went in to get breakfast with my husband. It is supposed to be open at 7am. I was not happy with the attitude that we got from the lady who was running the counter. First, they were late opening, it was not open at 7am, it was close to 7:15am. And we got welcomed by saying “we aren’t doing food, we just opened!” Very rude. We turned around and left, went to Dunkin for a sandwich and coffee. I have had better experiences, but the rudeness was not called for at all

We love our breakfast sandwiches in NJ. But the SMH breakfast sandwich has surpassed any breakfast sandwich I've ever had. In fact, I ordered it twice in a row for breakfast and a latte. This place is fantastic. The atmosphere is so warm and welcoming. Every detail is well thought out. The staff was super professional and accommodating. We tried a handful of items. The first thing I’ll mention because it was by far one of my most favorite dish. The butternut squash ravioli had depth of flavors for days. I could eat that every day. The burgers were cooked perfectly. The bacon jam with the buffalo dip was fantastic. We tried four cocktails and I preferred the Asian pear martini the most. Definitely a great spot for family or a romantic night out with a date.

Our server, a Russian gal, was fantastic. Super professional and very nice! We had soup, salad, and entree. The food was great - lobster tail grilled nicely and the beef tenderloin done exactly as ordered. The seafood chowder was hot and tasty. Salads fresh and crispy. The bread placed on the table was wonderful - were those cranberries? Very good. And the brewed iced tea presentation was beautiful. Overall, a really nice experience.

This was a great restaurant, my only complaint was the price. Not surprised really as it was in a hotel in the heart of Bangor. The food was great and came out quickly. It was very busy when we arrived, we were told 15-20 minute wait but we were seated within 10 minutes. We had Parmesan truffle fries, spaghetti with meatballs and crab stuffed haddock. I’m glad I went with the half portion of spaghetti, it was plenty with the Parmesan fries we shared as an appetizer.

Timber Kitchen & Bar was quite possibly THE best dining experience we have ever had! The service, food, atmosphere, decor…everything, was way beyond our expectations. We had the surf and turf, calamari, dirty martini, and a couple of the desserts and were blown away. Not only that, but we had the best server, Katya, who went above and beyond to make it a wonderful experience all around. We are staying at the Residence Inn, in the same building, and cannot wait to eat here again tonight. This place is truly a gem!!

Fabulous food. We were a party of four. Their tables are simply too small for their servings. Our charcuterie board (delicious) and side plates covered our menus as we didn’t get our main order in until we’ll after the charcuterie came. Ask for a larger table than your party count if you are getting anything more than the most basic items. Drinks were delivered after the food came…like halfway into the meal. Mind you the wait staff was great but they were either too busy or it was just an off night for our table. All of their food was great. Good selection of local beer and interesting cocktails.

When we arrived We wanted to sit outside by the Fire and sit on the Comfy Couch. At first they said it might not be a good idea if it might rain understandable but we took a chance anyhow and they took us out gave us Sunday Buffet Menus. We waited for a The waiter to come out He asked us what we would like for drinks and asked if we needed more time with deciding on what we were going to choose for our meal. He came out again With our drinks and we still hadn’t decided what to have and wanted him to explain the Buffet menu to us. So We told him we needed more time. So we waited at least 20 to 25 minutes before I notice a waitress by the window and she came out. She didn’t understand what the Buffet and told us she thought it was over. so she went and got our waiter. When he came out it was no longer time for the buffet so he had to get another menu for us then we had to decide what we wanted. So we waited longer he came out and we Decided on Pizza. After that It took some time for him to come back out and ask if we needed more to drink which we only had soda. We finally finished more then a hour we were there. The waiter was friendly though so that Helped! The Pizza is really tasty! Other then the mix up with the menus and the wait we couldn’t complain because we We’re outside by ourselves by the fire on a comfy couch lol

Timber Kitchen & Bar Restaurant is fantastic! Service was awesome! The atmosphere was amazing! A bit rustic with the cozy fireplace, dim lighting, and wood plank ceiling, yet intimate. The fire roasting on the inside totally sets the atmosphere. The service was excellent, very attentive. The food was delicious! We were on our way through and stopped for lunch. It was very busy the whole we were there but we were served rather quickly. They knew what they were doing.

Food and atmosphere were fantastic. We'll definitely be going back. We went at lunch time and wasn't too busy but I know that it does get busy for evening hours.

Favorite restaurant my friends and I tried the entire weekend trip! Staff was incredibly friendly and very knowledgeable! Super clean establishment! Loved their variety of cocktails and food availability. For appetizers: • “Up To Camp" Lobster Mac & Cheese very delicious but was missing more protein; felt like it was too little. All in all, the combination of flavors were on point! • Pan Seared Ahí Tuna was very refreshing and yummy! The Yuzu Mermalade was extremely interesting. For Social and Unique: • Blue Hill Bay Mussels broth was very interesting. Some mussels were fresh others weren't as they didn't open (disappointed) but all in all a very unique dish. • Brick Oven Onion Soup was amazing! It sure had plenty of onion and soup consistency was right on point. The Gruyere Cheese was a great choice! For Camp Kettle: • Half the table went with Maine Lobster Bisque (loved the tiny crostini with lobster and micro herbs - so delicious! I could eat this any day!) and half the other table went with their Smoked Seafood Chowder (it was okay was definitely missing that Smokey flavor) For Base Camp Classics: • Crab Crusted Haddock. The crab crusted was delicious but the haddock was over cooked! Love their Citrus Butter Sauce but the Smoked Bacon never made it to the plate which was lacking on trying to find all flavors combined. For Hand-Helds: • Maine Lobster Roll was definitely lacking on the lobster and flavor was nothing out of this world. Make sure you save on trying lobster roll in Bar Harbor so much better! For Rustic Hand-Made Pasta: • Pappardelle Bolognese was more of a Pasta Tomato and Cheese pasta. If my friend found 3 pieces of protein was too much! Too saucy! For Foraged, Farmed, Fished: • Seared Local Scallops everything on this dish was extremely wow except the fact it came a bit cold. They had it way too long waiting for the other meals to be ready. Extremely disappointed! • 24 hr Short Rib Filet as well as above everything perfect but wasn't cooked plated and served right away but cooked plated and left waiting in the "hot lamp" For Cocktails/Beer: • Bar Harbor Real Ale, Urban Woodsman, White & Red Sangria, Smoked Old Fashioned (needs more Smokey flavor), Blackberry Ginger Shrub, Blue Shine (too sweet not enough Moonshine or I'm used to Nashville TN moonshine) Blueberry Jam Mojito and Blueberry Tarragon Shrub Martini - all cocktails highly recommended! Couldn't go for third's and fourth round as they close way too early! For Desserts: • Creme brûlée were sooo good! Loved their Espresso one! If you're Colombian and you've tried their candy "COFFEE DELIGHT" it tastes exactly like it! Highly recommended if you ever visit Bangor Maine!

I have been to timber many times as I usually love the food and a great date night spot. Our server was really great. However, last night I was upset at the quality of food being served. We ended up getting one of their pizzas which was okay compared to how it usually is. We ended up ordering food to go as well after our meal. This is where it took a turn. We got home and after a few hours we went to eat our takeout. I had gotten one of their burgers which was great. However, my partner got a fried chicken sandwich that was completely raw. He took one bite into it and you could see how pink it was.

This is may be my favorite restaurant in all of my travels. It is clean, the atmosphere is inviting and comfortable. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The management is responsive. Last but certainly not least the food is Michelin start ready. Everything we tried in our few visits there did not disappoint us. I highly recommended this place as a must when your travel to Bangor.

Incredible 5-star service! Food is Devine, drinks are fabulous. This is an experience that surpasses any restaurant in the area. The outside igloos are warm, inviting and create a unique dining experience. I have travel the Eastern seaboard the past few years. Timber is top-notch! I highly recommend the Summer Squash Ravioli and the Dirty Scoundrel Martini.

Timber is my go-to for eats for concerts at the Bangor Waterfront. First stopped here last summer before a concert and had a great outside experience. It was really busy, but the staff was attentive and the food was amazing. For last night's Pantera show, we didn't get to Bangor in time to visit before, but we did end up here after the show. Limited food menu for late hours, but it was enough. We each had separate blueberry cocktails with vodka and tequila that were both fantastic. Despite my love for margaritas, the martini my girlfriend had was top notch and I would have had several if the time allowed. 1 app, a pizza, and 2 fancy cocktails for 2 people came out to $60. Would come back again and again...

This restaurant is a nice blend of casual dining to semi-fancy if you like. My table of 4 enjoyed the dining experience and the food. From prime rib to one of their delicious gourmet burgers. The issue was the slow service which was on a Friday night. We all felt they were slow and possibly understaffed. We had one plate of food that didn't arrive till after the other 3 were finished with their dinner. The waitress had apologized and "checked" on it the manager had come by twice to apologized and "check" on it too. No explanation was tindered and the only compensation was, "well comp your meal" . Even that was offered as if they were really going out of the way to offer that much. We might return in the future but will definitely be prepared for slow service. I never felt like they were there to serve but more like it was almost an annoyance to wait on us. Even drink service was painfully slow. Never did receive the water that was asked for.
