American restaurant
Macky's Grill is a cowboy-themed burger joint that has been serving casual bites, beer, and wine since 1997. The restaurant offers a dog-friendly patio for guests to enjoy. Their menu features a variety of messy, piled-high Angus burgers such as "The Duke" topped with sautéed mushrooms and onions, bacon, cheddar, lettuce, tomato, and mayo.
We brought the doggie, so outdoor seating for us. But it was cool cause they brought a water dish out too. Service was fantastic. Cold beer too. Food was very good and arrived fast. Thanks for a great Saturday afternoon visit.

We were passing by on our way home, decided to stop by since it has pretty good reviews and let me tell you it didn't disappoint! There was about a 20 minute wait but well worth it! I ordered the Fireside burger, so so good! The ranch was good too. In case you want a delicious and freshing strawberry lemonade, please order it, it's probably one of the best ones Ive had. It's not too sweet and you get strawberries in the drink not just syrup. Also, they have indoor and outdoor seating. Enjoy!!
Vee T — Google review
The food was really good; unsurprising as the reviews are very good as well. I particularly enjoyed the fried pickles. They're not on the appetizer menu but we asked and they were able to make them. Would recommend.

Came in on a Sunday afternoon. The restaurant was *packed* and yet my party was seated quickly and we received our order quickly. The food was good, had the fish and chips-the cornbread was the real winner. It kind of knocked my socks off. The service was attentive. Would definitely go back. Also, definitely dog friendly, like the sign says.

We got the mushroom cheddar burger and the Macky Burger. It was good. The onion straws were awesome! 4 starts instead of 5 because for what it was, it was pretty expensive.
Eva — Google review
Friendly service, great fun and clean atmosphere. We love the onion straws. The butterscotch pie was surprisingly delicious! We were unsure about it, but loved it. The chicken pesto sandwich was good but not amazing. I would try something else before ordering again.
Amy Stradling — Google review
We went out to payson for my Boyfriends birthday and he really wanted a burger and this place gave us a BURGER! I got the Macky’s burger and my boyfriend got the Curly Joe burger. Both were super delicious! I usually will take my food home but this time I didn’t lol. I would say the produce was really fresh, the Pattie’s were charred but very juicy, and the buns were slightly toasted(which I love). Even my lemonade was really good and so were the fries. I would honestly go back again. We are actually planning a trip back in the next few months. Also service was really good. Everyone was really friendly! Last but not least, the carrot cake was definitely the best of all

Update: I went again up to Payson with my friend Jen, to eat at Mackey's Grill. I ordered the Patty Melt with Potato Salad. I generally Love Patty Melts. This one was decent but needed more seasoning. The Potato Salad was decent, but I've had way better. We did find out it isn't homemade but their Coleslaw is. I should have ordered the Coleslaw! No folks that isn't a Beer in the pic, I had a Bottled Vanilla Creme Soda, which they bring you a frosted mug to drink it out of. Was very good! I ordered a Slice of their Carrot Cake to go (a favorite), Jen ordered 2. I would have loved some Zucchini or Onion Rings but $11.50 is too pricey for an Appetizer, that cost more then my Burger n side. When Jen got her food the Fries looked so good I ordered a side of those too with ranch. Jen had an Orange Creme Soda and the special which was a Taco Burger, which she said both were great! Also we had a Great Waitress named Jaeden, she is Cute and Attentive...Great Service!!! ********** July 11, 2021 Our waitress Brittney, was Awesome ! Friendly, Helpful, great overall personality and of course attentive! This is only my 2nd visit, I am from Mesa and travel to Payson or thru Payson as often as I can. Stumbled upon Macky's Grill 2 months ago with a good friend and decided to stop to day with my sister. I ordered the 3pc Chicken Tenders (actually got 4) with Loaded Potato Soup and a Rootbeer! I also order a Carrot Cake and told her I'd probably want another to take home later. Tenders we're decent (Chick-fil-A is better thou), loved the soup! My sister ordered the sandwich + soup She got the BLT with Avocado and cup of Poblano Soup, loved them both perfect amount of food she said. Their Carrotcake is Awesome I ordered it to-go on first trip and took one bite, it was so good I ordered a 2nd to-go too. So wanted the same this time... Brittney came back, very upset apologizing that she had set a slice aside for me but someone else took it and sold it and they were out. I felt bad that she was so upset, it really wasn't a big deal and I told her so, I would have loved to have it but not worth making someone upset, plus saved me from eating too many sweets! ********** May 2021 Worth a visit! Great Patty Melt! I asked for burger to be done, it was slightly pink, but very good. Potatoes salad was decent! Then ordered Carrot Cake & a Southwest Cheesecake to go! Took a bite of the Carrot cake before leaving, probably the best I've ever had. No raisin (which I hate in cake)...it was slightly warm which I think made it better. It was so good I ordered another to take with too.
MarQuette Mason — Google review
We ordered the cheese curds, medium and the spicy bbq wings. Everything was great. Those wings were amazing! These were not scrawny and the sauces were very flavorful. The carrot cake with cream cheese frosting was definitely worth it. The patio is dog friendly and our pup was offered a cool bowl of water. We had Stevie and another very thoughtful young lady serve us. Excellent experience. We are definitely coming back here.
Lisa — Google review
We were served rather quickly and the food was good. I ordered the strawberry lemonade which had strawberry chunks which was so tasty. I also ordered the avocado BLT which really hit the spot. For my taste it did have a lot of mayo but was still good. The fries were crispy and had a good flavor. They also have the thick ranch which is my favorite. I would definitely go back.
Leslie Gonzalez — Google review
We really loved our food!! The service and food were amazing. Definitely a must-eat-at restaurant when you’re in Payson! Also loved that they had gluten-free options for me.

Came to payson for a hike and decided after to have lunch. Best lemon pepper wings i have ever had! All was good. Calamari cheese curds club sandwich cobb salad. All delicious!

This is a nice little place tucked off to the side by the movie theater in Payson. Good food and fun place to hang out. Family atmosphere. Standard American food. Good breakfast too. Recommended.
John Nichols III — Google review
This is a quiet little place, in a small strip mall, but the food is LOUD. We walked in, were happily greeted, and quickly sat for late lunch. Every aspect of the food, all the way down to the style of ice in the water, was immensely enjoyable, and the service, was awesome. Thanks, especially to Delaney, our waiter, who treated us like we were family right from the start. Food wise, we ordered the fried pickles, and they were the best I've ever had, the az chili bomber burger, which was just outstanding, well cooked and perfectly topped, and the two step burger, which packed a delicious punch and was so big I actually took a chunk home in a doggy bag. We both ordered the fries and they were heavenly, especially paired with the homemade ranch, that my girlfriend wouldn't stop raving about. Food portions are great. You won't leave hungry. And finish the meal with the southwest cheesecake, took a picture with a fork for reference, we split it happily between the 2 of us. . Thank you all for your tremendous work and great food, we will be back up the mountain a few more times this summer and plan on stopping here again.
Adam Davis — Google review
Took a day trip and wanted to find a great local spot. We hit the jackpot. Found a spot on the patio to accomodate our pup. Delaney, our server, amazing!! We had chicken pesto sandwhich, b.l.t., cup of chili and pablano chicken soups. The real star was the butterscotch pie we split o.m.g.!!! p.s. I dropped some money on the way to the restroom and another server said they found it. Love Macky's!!!
Terri A (Mischief Maker) — Google review
Cari is the best owner and we were lucky enough to have her serve us. 5 stars isn’t enough. She was great as was the entire staff. It truly was one of the best dining experiences we have ever had. All four of us had great meals. Could not have been better. Really made our day after hiking at Tonto state park.

He had the Buffalo burger and mine was the chile burger...my gawd it was delicious, the fries have a tasty coating. Service was excellent and fast. Their website says they open at 10 but it really opens at 11am. Enjoy 😉

Loved this place! Stopped in for lunch on a road trip that took us through Payson,AZ. The staff were so warm and attentive. The mushroom burger and sweet potato fries were delicious.

We stopped by for lunch and the food was awesome! My husband got the Herd Burger with the brisket burger and he said it was GOOD! I got the crispy chicken sandwich with buffalo sauce and it was really good too! Will definitely come back and highly recommend! (Don’t forget to get the onion rings 😋)
Tara Carroll — Google review
Delicious! Delicious! My husband was nodding his head throughout his meal, he loved it so much. He got the Herd Burger, and I got the El Diablo chicken sandwich with crispy chicken. So good! I loved the large green Chile they put on the burger. One of the best burgers I've had in a while! Can't wait to come back!

Service was great, food fantastic. Got to meet the owner on our way out. He's a great guy. Loved the decor. To my surprise, this is not a full-time bar as they close at 10 on the weekends. This was our first time here. We will be back!! .. pics provide were taken before we left. It was much busier when we arrived

VERY BUSSY place with good food + reasonably priced. Servers were helpful but moving/speaking fast. I had the green pepper burger with jalapenos added - fantastic. Just replace the green pepper with jalapeno and you have another type of favorite burger :-).

Ordered the bacon cheeseburger with French fries to go. Solid lunch. Very popular, small dining area, wide selection on menu. Fries were greasy, but good.

You need to eat here when in Payson. Dinner was outstanding! The brisket burger was delicious but the shaved sirloin steak melt sandwich was above and beyond! Don't forget to top it all off with a Buffalo Chip dessert. (There's a chocolate chip cookie hidden under all that!) 😋

Was passing through and decided to stop by. Wanted a mom and pop type of place instead of a chain. Got the bacon cheeseburger with crispy bacon and fries. When it arrived, I immediately noticed That the bacon was not crispy at all. Was about to lose a star but then I took a bite of the burger. The burger was so damn good!! WOW!! The fries were hot and crispy and the service was excellent! I never had an empty Diet Coke cup! Next time I’m passing through I’ll be stopping here again for lunch!!

Fun atmosphere, great food and friendly service! All of our food was seasoned and cooked well. Our server was friendly and made sure to give us drink refills and check on us. The sweet potato fries and their regular fries were delicious! I definitely recommend giving this place a try!
Crystal Neill — Google review
This place is a fun spot to hang out at. The service was friendly with the country charm of being slightly sluggish and disinterested. Hey, it's a bar in a small town so what do you really expect? I tried fish and chips and then tried the sampler. Typical bar food, to be honest. Overall, it was blasé. The fish itself wasn't too bad. The sampler was static and rather boring, with heavy batter. I probably wouldn't repeat on the food. For a place to get together for a drink it seems cool though. I liked the rustic vibe of the place and my expectation wasn't very high, so I wasn't disappointed. I'd go here again with the right company and maybe try something else.
John Nichols III — Google review
First time in there tonight after driving by countless times for years on the way to camping and they did not disappoint! I don't know how they did it but they cooked a thick steak well done, no pink, just how I like it, and it was tender and perfect. NO ONE ever can manage to do that, even at fancy steak houses. The baked potato was fluffy, the steak delicious... I ran into the kitchen help outside after and went on and on about how good the food was. The atmosphere was rustic cowboy and the servers were amazing. Zero complaints, only complimens. I wish I could put that whole restaurant and staff in my pocket and bring them home to Phoenix because that's my new favorite place to eat.
The ChaosGirl — Google review
My fiance and I took a drive for a hike out of town and stopped in for lunch. The food was so delicious!! Everything was great and welcoming. We are definitely coming back! If you haven't been you must go and try it!
Jen — Google review
The service was good. Super busy. The staff was nice. Drinks were good. Cheese Curds were good ... they did not give us the happy hour prices. However, the burgers were cold. We observed a takeout that waited at least 15 minutes for her claim chowder but had her meal ready to go. I would not say the best burgers around.
Amanda Grunder — Google review
Had the green chili burger, and that was great. My wife ordered the pastrami sandwich, and that was incredible. If you like pastrami, get it here. It's smoked with a balsamic dressing, which sounds weird but tastes amazing. It wasn't very busy on a Thursday, but the atmosphere was really chill, and the restaurant is decked out with cool stuff. Booths and tables are available along with eating the bar if you want. The pastrami was $13, and the burger was $15, but both came with a decent amount of the sides we picked and we were stuffed.

Guests can relish their meals in the cozy lodge-like ambiance or opt for the charming outdoor covered patio. DELICIOUS!!! Had the Skewered Bourbon Street Tenderloin for an appetizer, the meat was super tender. Then for the main meal had the ribeye with a baked potato...it was cooked just right. Then of course dessert, the chocolate chip cookie with vanilla ice cream baked in a mini cast iron pan. Would definitely recommend if you're coming through town. Their drinks were really good too!

This place was super delicious. We Googled it looking for a place to stop to eat before heading back to Phoenix. We decided to go here because our friends who we spent the weekend with had their dogs come with. We needed an environment that they could be part of. Yes!!! They were pet friendly and we sat outside with the beautiful weather enjoying our company with their dogs. The service was wonderful. Super friendly, always had a smile, and made sure we had everything we needed. The food was AMAZING. Big plates, that were weren't expecting, and not one thing we all ordered was bad. 6 of us had something super yummy. Definitely recommend it here. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.

A fantastic and very cool to stop into. Mrs Awesome did that just today and had a blast. The interior vibe is wonderful as this joint has large interior foot print and the bar is very fun. Parking was a breeze and if you know me, that's important! Staff: what can I say? Fun and friendly without being over bearing. Hey Doug! What about the food. Glad you asked. I ordered the Ruben which in my world, is a 50/50 deal. This sandwich rocked it and when combined with a delicious side of onion rings, had me walking In Memphis Pro tip: when you go there, give yourself some extra time as their menu goes on and on and mean, in a good way! Tons of options that will leave you wanting more. Mrs awesome went with the veggie wrap and she loved it! We each had one adult bevie and walked the door with a total cost of about $51.00 dollars. Great price point, great food, great staff and you've got a winner. Please give this gem a try because I think you'll be happy Thanks for reading

Very expensive but absolutely worth it. 4 of us are and absolutely everything was amazing. The steak was tender and beautifully prepared, my salmon was delicious, the kids actually ate and enjoyed it all and we had dessert which was also amazing and decently priced. Attentive servers and nice dining atmosphere. Will absolutely be coming back!
Rayne Gilham — Google review
This steakhouse in Payson is recommended. The steak was delicious and cooked to perfection. It is likely that the onions would have been improved if sauteed. The chicken was good, but highly dependent on the impressive flavor of the sauce, being somewhat dry itself. The carrot cake was satisfactory, with a delicate cream cheese frosting of moderate sweetness. My dining companion and I were sated, and since this restaurant aims to a higher standard, we held it to one. Update 10-2-23 Considering our semi-frequent returns to this location, it is upgraded to 5 stars. We wouldn't return if it wasn't good!
John Nichols III — Google review
Our waitress was awesome! We walked in less than an hour before closing and she gave us amazing service anyway. The food was really tasty! Love the Bang Bang Shrimp...the prime rib sliders were the bomb!!
Joe Ricciuto — Google review
My server Keith provided good suggestions from the starters and dinner menu. High points: heated sourdough dinner roll, dinner Caesar was incredibly delicious crunchy fresh lettuce. Entree of Rig Eye was tasty and way better than average quality. Side baked potato was really tasty. The butternut squash side was super-if not just Luke warm. I would come back and try the filet. Happy dining fellow travelers. See the pics. Jim

We stopped in for dinner not expecting much. We were greeted a bit brashly and learned that their happy hour is only for those without children. We were pleasantly surprised by the dinner and dining service. Kids were very happy with their mashed potato option. We enjoyed the prime rib and baked potato. Everyone was pleased by the warm dinner rolls. For the price point we were very satisfied and would return.

I ordered the salmon. The coconut chili topping was nice but the salmon tasted overbearingly fishy.. almost like canned fish. The pictures of the food looked great so I’m pretty disappointed. Maybe other menu items are better? I personally could have been way more satisfied with something 1/4 of the cost
Em — Google review
Nice little place, hidden gem. Super cool atmosphere, cute patio with the water fans in the shade so it doesn’t get too hot. Service was excellent but the food took a long time to come. It’s basically all sandwiches and wraps. Around $15 per plate.
Alessandra Camargo — Google review
We didn't eat. But... It's too expensive. Broil steak they have. I know everything is so expensive these days. And at the time we visited. Hardly any other people were there. But they had great service and atmosphere. Why we didn't eat there was because my son did want boiled steak 🥩. He wanted grilled like other steaks house. Although hopefully whoever goes there has a great time and enjoys it. Enjoy whatever you ordered. It's still good food.🤤😋😉

Restaurant
El Rancho is a charming Mexican restaurant nestled in Payson, Arizona, boasting a traditional adobe-style exterior. For over two decades, this family-owned establishment has been dishing out an array of classic Mexican delicacies such as enchiladas, tacos, and burritos. Guests rave about the generous portions and swift service, with particular praise for the flavorful chips and salsa. The ambiance is described as clean, fresh, and inviting while the staff receives accolades for their attentive and friendly demeanor.
Simply the best Mexican food in Payson. This was our 3rd visit to this restaurant, never disappoints. The best location at the junction of the highway which goes to show low. Wide variety of menu options, kids also has lot of options to choose from. Beans n Rice is always treat along with any dish you order. I highly recommend it.
Ravikant Ahire — Google review
Very good. The drinks were refilled before empty, nachos had plenty of cheese. Only real down was the taco. The taco looked good but the shell didn't seem fried enough. It was tough and chewy. But service was very good.

Wow! You want authentic Mexican food, you got it! From the rustic exterior to the inviting interior, you feel like you are in for a treat. This restaurant is filled with friendly staff and amazing food. Don't forget to save room for dessert. Their churros with ice cream are a local favorite...so good! 😋

Amazing Mexican food. The best I've had I think! We started with some homemade tortilla chips with salsa. It was really good. The ingredients were fresh and it was quite addictive. Then we ordered our food. The waiter was super nice and sweet! Best experience I've had with a waiter I believe. Our Guacamole dip came along before our food. So we had that with our tortilla chips and again, super fresh ingredients and very delicious. I ordered the shredded beef Queso Loco Burrito. Absolutely amazing. The shredded beef was the perfect choice for this. The cheese was melted and delicious. Best experience of mexican cuisine I've had since I arrived in Arizona.

This is literally one of the best restaurants I have ever been to in my entire life, and that's saying a lot. Amazingly fast service. We had chips and salsa in less than 20-30 seconds from being seated. Mexican food is exceptional and authentic with correct sauces not just chili powder and cumin like some other places. Waiters and servers are extremely fast and kind as well. Burgers are AMAZING. Beer battered old school bar food onion rings that fill the entire plate. Exceptionally amazing restaurant. Wish it was in Phoenix.

El Rancho is a family favorite we've been frequenting for years. Great traditional Sonoran Mexican food, reasonable prices, and fast and friendly service (food always comes out so quickly). You'll love the chips and salsa. If you ask for hot sauce, you'll get an extra kick. The sopapillas are obligatory for us. We like them with powdered sugar and honey. On this last visit, we discovered they have "Taco Tuesday" and lunch specials!

Oh, man.. I am SO full!! The crispy cheese thing was AMAZING! The queso was warm and buttery and great homemade dipping chips! I had a pork chimi with green sauce. Delicious! We also had a chicken quesadilla and the shredded beef burrito with red sauce. We did the churro stuffed with Bavarian cream! YUMMY! Thumbs up all around. Check them out if your in Payson.

We were a big group and Denny’s won’t take us so we called this place and they had availability. We were hungry so food was good. We ate a lot of chips and salsa. Literally got stuffed on that. I got carne asada tacos. They were good. The rice was kinda stuck to the plate. They refill your chips and salsa quick.

They greeted and sat us immediately and brought us water and Hot and Fresh Chips and salsa! Two bowls for three people which is nice! The chips and salsa were above average! The portions are huge! I hade 3 meals out of mine and my partner had 2-3 meals! So great price for the amount you get!!! The margarita my MIL was ginormous and loved it!! The place was clean, smelled nice, looked fresh and airy. Everyone was super nice and checked on us the exact amount of times! A+++!! Definitely will go back many times!!!

Whenever I have company from out of town, El Rancho is THE place to go!! Everyone loves the variety, service and atmosphere!! I also order delivery which is super fast, delicious and plenty for at least 2 full meals!! My favorite!!!
Jackie Boldman — Google review
Thorough service from Penny, who took the time to educate us on the horchata, made with non dairy, zero fat milk. The fajita was strong in spiciness! Overall, our orders were satisfactory and I got the queso loco with cheese cream sauce on the side, along with both red and green sauce. The deep fried burrito was new to me and I enjoyed it. The salsa was savory. Vegetarian options are available. As for the queso loco, it supplied an ample quantity of unctuous shredded beef, and delightful spice, served on a platter, not a plate to harbor the generous accompaniment of rice and refried beans covered amply with melted cheese. Yes El Rancho understands the size of a man's hunger. Green chili pork burrito done enchilada style is also a favorite.

Finally got to try this place and so glad I did! Was taking my mom back to NM and this type of little diner is exactly her type of place. C☕ffee was very good, Denver omelette was delicious🤤 and my biscuit was fat & fluffy. The home-style potatoes were yummy. Staff was super nice and attentive. Just about everything you need is on the table too. Great way to start the day🌞

30 minute wait, then when we were sat at a booth, waited another 30 minutes to order, there must've been a confusion of who was supposed to serve us, we did get coffee and water...then we had to wait for our bill. It could have been just an off day for this place, it did take waste a lot of our time, but we are very patient and grateful they eventually served us. The potatoes were delicious 😋 The coffee was also very good 👍🏻

Friendly staff, easy off-street parking. Cared for restrooms. Came for breakfast. We ordered pancakes and added blueberries. They are large, so a short stack was way more then enough and we split the order. There is no split plate charge. Service was fast and they were fluffy and hot when they arrived. The bottomless cup of coffee was very good. the house speciality is a huge homemade cinnamon roll, which will easily feed three. Way too much for us, but word is that its fabulous. Open until 2pm.

Call me weird. This is how I keep my waffle in between of putting it in my mouth. I always order triple extra crispy (or it’s going back) nothing on top-no syrup, butter, nothing, then I stand it on the side so no sogginess come between us. Not a lot of restaurants could make me happy but this little place in Payson made me happy and was able to enjoy my very 1st waffle in a long time. Their food was great. I also ordered Mexican Omelette with extra crispy country potatoes. Man, they mad everything right. I m very particular with my food and this place delivered top 10! Thank you for making me happy! #wafflestruggles

I had a delicious BLT, and the ladies that were running the place were wonderful. They seemed to know all of the guests and were just really genuine kind people.

Excellent breakfast experience!! Everything was delicious and perfect! The staff was attentive and friendly. Refills are on point. I recommend you stop by and get some delicious breakfast. It’s family friendly and it’s a fun place to stop and see all the cool things inside the restaurant.

Pinon has become our go-to spot for breakfast after hiking. They have the best cinnamon rolls, no lie. Huge, soft, hot, fluffy, not overly frosted, and huge. Yeah, it's that big it needs to be said twice. The staff is friendly, although our last visit last Sunday we had a tall male server who was silent and did not come across as wanting to be waiting table. He was not rude, he simply was well, silent and non-communicative. My buddy said her biscuits and gravy were great. I would not, however, recommend the yogurt parfait. Its description reads "Granola topped with yogurt, berries and bananas." The yogurt was thin, the granola was bland, there was a small piece of banana peel on one of my slices, plus I was expecting different types of berries - what I received was wet, soggy (imagine unfrozen) and limp strawberries. Yuck. But the cinnamon. Heavens to Betsy, that cinnamon roll is worth the drive to Payson.

Stopped after a couple hour mororcycle ride from Phoenix to eat a bite of local treats...and WOW, it was so good! I did the half order of biscuits and gravy, then added the 7 bean soup. Both were the best I have had in some time! Each came out served hot and yummy... and both were homemade as well. You could taste it.... This place is one of my new favorites when I travel over to Payson. I will be back for more. Oh, and that Giant cinnamon roll....its to die for. :)

This place is so cute and homey. Our server was Autumn, she was excellent and super friendly! The food was so good, it was mind-blowing. I got the Mogollon Monster and my husband got the Elvis. Both were awesome, and really reasonably priced! If you're like us and you're just passing through, absolutely stop in for some breakfast or lunch, you won't regret it!
